idk where it came from but I have this really specific headcanon of Annie being a lesbian and the first person she came out to was bertholdt like Annie is probably really distraught from all this confusion abt her sexuality and it’s the first time Bert has ever seen her cry and he’s trying his best to comfort her and kinda doing a bad job in some peoples opinion but Annie isn’t the best at crying or expressing her emotions so to her, it’s kinda comforting that Bert is also not really good at this as well and Annie just goes “you don’t understand bertholdt, I like girls!” And she says this like it’s a bad thing (comphet is a bitch) and bertholdt is just like “….I mean I like girls too?” And Annie laughs and yeah I just love them :')

Bertie has such a big heart and great empathy but is absolutely terrible at knowing how to express that all!! Even with people he does so with often like Rei or Pieck. So Annie coming to HIM with all this, has him spiraling trynna figure out how best to comfort her. Cause as you said, he's never so much as seen her cry before.

She's so overcome with emotions it's also hard for him to parse out what she's rambling about but he's rubbing her back--if she is okay with that. Then she blurts out that statement and!!!!

My brain was lining him up to say something so similar too! I feel like even if Bert, in this moment, isn't super knowledgeable or knows anyone else with differing sexual identities, he's such a supportive person that of course he's gonna accept it!

I firmly believe that this is the case even if he happens to be harboring any type of crush or romantic feelings for her at the time. Bert is a good person and at the end of the day he's firstly, honored that Annie would feel safe enough to breakdown in front of him and share all this. And secondly, loves and cares for her in a way that wishes to hold up her happiness as the most important thing. So, whether she knew of his feelings or not ((we know she probably did cause he's only just mildly better at hiding things than Reiner, which isn't much lmao)) he's not gonna bring that up in any weird way then or in the future.

When she laughs at his lil joke offering, he relaxes and ends up fully hugging her. And you know he gives great hugs!! His chin rests on the top of her head and he gives her a firm squeeze. *ignoring the fics I've started writing and haven't updated in months* what if I start writing an enemies to lovers Annie Edison x Annie Kim fic?

Plot idea currently is that both Annie's are in a debate club/class but they're always on seperate teams. And they absolutely hate each other. They want their team to win and be the best, so they keep constantly trying harder and harder to win. Sometimes Annie Kim's team wins, and sometimes Annie Edison's team wins.

Annie Kim's team is the most recent winner, so the other Annie is going to do whatever the hell she can to win next time. So she stays in the library until late and, when finally heading back home, she hears crying in an empty classroom. Opening it up, she sees Annie Kim inside.

Hesitantly Annie Edison walks inside and asks the other Annie what happened. Annie Kim admits that she quit her debate team because they've made her feel uncomfortable after they found out she's a lesbian. Annie Edison ends up suggesting that Annie Kim joins her debate team, and together they can defeat the jerks who made her quit. Annie Kim agrees.

Initially they have a really tough time doing this. The two have different ways of studying, and they keep getting into petty arguments. They think maybe it was a bad idea to team up.

Still, they continue to try and slowly some progress is made. The two Annie's have an easier time preparing. The two start hanging out more often, even outside of debate preparation. And Annie Edison is surprised to find she actually enjoys hanging out with Annie Kim.

They talk more and more, and hang out more and more, until the two start really looking forward to hanging out. Feelings start developing.

There's another debate, and they're going against the team Annie Kim was on. The two crush them, and win the debate.

Then they kiss, and become girlfriends!

These two are from a comic I'm currently working on! Wizard is a powerful and mysterious dark magic user who lives as a recluse. Mage is a master of light magic who is obsessed with the performing arts. Together they are unstoppable but also very dumb. Their relationship isn't strictly romantic as in they don't really put a label on what they are, but they do love one another! They go from enabling each other’s bad behaviors to being a significant reason for why they both decide to change for the better.

and it’s kind of like. okay me interpreting britta and jeff’s competitive perspective of gender roles as they pertain to winning love as them being gay and trans is all whatever lmao but the analysis i think still remains. that if cis het men and women ever want to have healthy balanced relationships with one another they need to reject gender roles. flat out. that’s of course not to say that if your interests and goals still ultimately align with what society expects of someone of your gender that you need to change that. but you need to stop seeing arbitrarily collected traits as a checklist or roadmap to successfully performing your gender and start seeing them as just. hobbies. perspectives. emotions. whatever.

and another part of jeff and britta’s problem is that they both crucially desperately want to be cool. liked, admired. and coolness cannot be intentionally constructed with any amount of authenticity. you cannot authentically make yourself cool. so they rely on artifice - in jeff’s case, he tends to mimic men he thinks are cool, (force mascing himself) (just kidding) and in britta’s case she tries to be the antithesis of basic bitches and wants to align herself with alt girls. but she can’t align herself with alt girls because she’s always secretly competing with them and can hardly interact with other women without thinking about the coolness power dynamic of their relationship (she can hang out with annie and shirley because she feels confident that she’s cooler than them lol) especially in terms of how cool men find them. i think that’s a huge part where of me enjoying reading britta as a lesbian comes from, because of how she talks a big game about not needing male attention, but obviously does want it, but it’s not because she wants any specific man’s attention because she’s attracted to him or likes him, she was just conditioned to believe (as are we all 😔) that approval from men is the greatest thing a woman can achieve. and i don’t think she believes this, but i think she believes that it’s what everyone else believes, which makes it effectively true to her.

Carnelian: Does the story have a lesson to learn? What is it? the lesson this story should learn is to give me all the good ideas up front TFA doesn't have a lesson per se, though I'll probably end up teasing one out at some point. If I were to take a stab at it now I'd say the lesson is about the importance of interdependence. Or maybe it's about home and family being complicated concepts, though that might be more a Triad thing, or a TFA sequel thing. Or a "Rose wrote this" thing.

Labradorite: What made you fall in love with your wip? What motivates you to write it? I've mentioned before that the roots of TFA (and honestly a lot of the stuff I'm working with) are in a couple of really old drafts that kinda stuck in my head. That plus the frustration of Triad not working for me back when I was doing it for NaNo 2021 made me go, "ugh I'm just gonna sprint some nonsense about lesbians and androids" and that just sorta captured me. I've enjoyed all the worldbuilding (I love species worldbuilding ugh) and all the characters that have gone into it so far, and being able to craft my old canon into something way better, but at the heart of the whole project is Dez being adorable and me wanting Anni and Zel to work out their things. I want to keep uncovering the story there. Plus if I write this book then I can (more seriously) write the next one, which is all about prep for space adventures.

Amethyst: Who is the Comfort Character™ of your wip Dez is the obvious answer. He's extremely good and luckily I get to spend half this WIP with him (more because I also get to rewrite everything forever 🙃). But I refuse to have only one comfort character, so Bran (emotional intelligence incarnate, wins Brother of the Year every year), Hoven (gay librarian Anxious about Responsibilities isn't not who I am as a person), and Tirias (polyamorous home improvement enthusiast living her best life) are also my comfort characters.

Jade: Your favorite relationship between two characters My favorite is often just whichever one I'm obsessed with at the moment but one of the top tier ones is Dez and Syndy's friendship, which won't get a ton of screen time in this book if I stick to my current plan, but has always been such a joy to me. They vibe really well, significantly because of being humanoid androids (don't need to sleep, have somewhat similar experiences with humans/human cultures, have weird relationships to said human cultures and their governments, and so on) but also because they both just wanna watch a shit ton of movies, and it's more fun to do that together.

trevor/robert: there is like one or two fics with this ship, which warmed me up to it a little, but it's still not one i'd get invested in? i'll say i'm neutral on it.

chris/max: i believe this is another one that has a few fics? not really my taste, but if the fic was good i'd ship it.

vanessa/dennis: listen. i very much interpreted the proposal as panicking x dumbass, not as anything more than that. so it wasn't really a ship i saw in any way. but there are a few very good fics that have made me ship them slightly. they're not my go-to's, but if the fic is good i will get invested.
