✮⋆˙ y/n’s pov
'the next station is . . . shinjuku.'
I was busy icing the bruises on my forearm from last night’s race when my best friend barged into the bathroom without knocking.
“HE’S COMING TODAY, N/N!” he screamed, and giggled like a school girl.
“I could’ve been naked, you know,” I muttered, shutting the first-aid box and shoving it into the cabinet under the sink. “who’s coming?”
“ignis-”
“percy, come on, not this again,” I groaned. “you’ve been fanboying about him for the past 48 hours, and I really just want to sleep. and besides, I really don’t see what the big deal about this guy is.”
“uh, hello? he’s the king of the shibuya street races!” percy exclaimed, following me as I walk out, and flop onto my bed. he stops at the foot of it.
“and the people have crowned me the queen of shinjuku’s. so what?” I asked.
‘ignis’, as the others call him, is someone called leo valdez. and apparently, he’s a pretty good racer.
“look,” I continued, interrupting percy before he started fanboying again, with hearts in his eyes or whatever. “if he’s that good, he can come and beat me at the annual tokyo races.” I declared.
“oh yeah, he probably will,” percy commented. I flung my pillow at his head, and smirked when I found I didn’t miss. “OW!”
“whatever. tell me more about him. what’s he like?”
it was almost as if I asked him to marry leo. and this time, he really did have hearts in his eyes, I fear.
“okay, so supposedly, he builds his own car, like you, and started racing at 17! isn’t that cool? I mean, you did too, but still. it’s cooler when he does it. anyway, he’s locally the undefeated champion of street racing, and oh my god, he drives a 1966 ford gt40, it’s so cool-”
“okayyy, i’ve heard enough. I guess it is going to be fun meeting him at the car meet for the races.” I smirked. “let’s battle it out on the roads, ignis.”
˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚
✮⋆˙ leo’s pov
'the next station is . . . shibuya.'
“jace, how much farther is the hotel?” I asked, knocking my legs onto the dashboard, and crossing them at my ankles. simultaneously, I pulled down my sunglasses.
“relax, passenger princess, just a few more minutes and we’ll be there.” he replied.
jason glanced at piper in the mirror and smiled.
I would never admit it, of course, but it was terrible being so good at one thing and horribly bad at another. honestly, who would ever believe that the king, ignis, had never been in an actual relationship? the one-night stands didn’t count, obviously. I’d never felt anything close to… love.
pondering my status of being single, I fell asleep in jason’s car.
“dude, bro, homie, my man, whatever, WAKE UP, WE’RE GOING TO BE LATE-”
“did you… did you carry me into bed, jason grace?” I opened one eye and grinned at him lazily.
“you were sound asleep, even worse than a log. I tried kicking you awake, but it didn’t work, so I had to pick you up, ufortunately.”
“aww, don’t sound so happy.”
“shut up. if you don’t get ready to get to the car meet, we don’t get a ticket to race for the entire next month,” he said.
“what- OH, I forgot about that. one ticket’s enough for all 23 races, right?”
“yeah, i’ll explain the details to you in the car, go get ready, dumbass.”
I grinned. “jason grace is cursing, the world is healing-” a pillow hit my face. “i’m going.”
timeskip
“okay, the serious ones you need to look out for are python, shooting star, and tsunami.”
“shooting star?” I choked on my water. “what-”
“weird name, huh?” a girl chuckled behind me, and I whipped around.
“oh no no no no, i’m sorry- are you shooting star? uh, shit, I apologi-”
“nah, but it was funny seeing you get so flustered, valdez.” she smirked.
“do we… know each other?” I asked, confused. her smirk widened.
“not yet, but real soon,” she said, her smirk never faltering and confidence never wavering. she turned and began walking away, and I stood there, mouth open.
“she’s pretty, but she’s also tsunami,” piper commented. oh.
“who said she’s pretty? I didn’t. did you? I don’t know,” I rambled. whatever. “she’s my competition. she’s just in the way of me and my golden trophy.”
“there’s no trophy, dumbass.” jason reminded me.
“a 700$ cash price is equivalent to a trophy, man,” I corrected him.
“ok, well, listen up. she’s called tsunami for a reason. she’s vicious, takes everyone by surprise at every race, and is the queen of shinjuku’s street racing. and most importantly? she’s never lost a single race.” piper explained. I took in every bit of that info, and filed into a part of my brain labelled ‘dangerous and pretty competition, stay away’.
“what’s her ride, then?” I asked, a little curious.
“1997 mazda rx-7 veilside fortune.”
“damn,” I whistled. before I could find out more about her, the announcer on the stage started talking.
“welcome, racers and audience! today is day 1 of the annual tokyo races! here’s a quick rundown about it, in case you haven’t a clue: starting today, there will be 23 races for 23 days, each race held in a special ward of tokyo. we start here, at shinjuku, and end the 23rd race at shibuya!”
everyone cheered and whistled at the mention of shinjuku and shibuya, the two hubs of tokyo’s street racing.
starting at tsunami’s turf, and ending in mine, huh? this was going to be fun.

valgrace except leo schemes with everyone and their mother to throw jason a bonfire party with close friends and family. they sit snuggled close to each other, curled into one another’s side as everyone shares stories about and first impressions about the son of jupiter.
annabeth mentioned how she threatened him with her dagger at first, piper and their mist filled memories, thalia with baby jason antics that had her hair turn gray at a young age.
after the night ended and they all go their separate ways, leo and jason snuck out somewhere else to share a kiss under the stars.
leo's first impression of jason was how beautiful he really is and seeing him made him believe in love at first sight.

but i love her !
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: to say that leo valdez is absolutely enamored with you would be an understatement. so, why don't you like him back?
pairing: leo valdez x fem!reader
word count: 2.3k
Tumblr media
LEO VALDEZ does not just like you. no, it is much more than that.
leo's feelings for you surpass mere affection. his love for you is deep-rooted and unshakable, transcending the limitations of the heart and mind. he doesn't just love you with his heart, which can falter or stop altogether. nor does he solely love you with his mind, which may fail him one day. no, leo valdez loves you with every fiber of his being, every inch of his soul, and every essence of his existence. his love for you is all-encompassing, unequivocal, and forever enduring.
so why don't you like him back?
Tumblr media
when you first arrived at camp, leo was immediately taken with you. while he had a reputation for falling for girls completely out of his league, this time was different. he knew deep down that he would do anything for you, even if it meant risking his own life. he couldn't pinpoint the exact moment he realized this, but he was sure that you were the one he was meant to be with. despite piper's concerns, leo was undeterred in his pursuit of you.
as you sat at your usual table in the dining pavilion, enjoying dinner with your cabinmates, you were completely immersed in the moment. laughter filled the air as you chatted about your day and shared stories of past quests. just as you took a bite of your dinner, you heard your name being called out loudly and persistently. turning your head in the direction of the voice, you found leo standing right in front of your table. as you tried to recall any previous interactions with him, confusion washed over you. you've only ever spoken to the boy about a grand total of once, and you don't even remember giving him your name.
leo slipped into the empty seat next to you, his smile beaming as he waited for your reaction. gasps escaped the mouths of several of your cabinmates, because, well, isn't it forbidden to sit at another god's table?
“sooo, is this seat taken?” he asked suavely, and you mentally rolled your eyes at his attempt at charm, knowing exactly where this was going.
"well, it wouldn't matter if it's taken or not, because you aren't supposed to be sitting here in the first place."
he only smiled dreamily, seemingly unfazed by your response. the tension in the air grew thicker, and someone let out a snort, unable to contain their amusement at the situation.
it took you a moment to piece together what was happening. leo's sudden changes in behavior around you, the not-so-subtle glances, the smiles, and the way his eyes would light up - it all made sense now, although you didn't want to admit it. leo valdez had a crush on you, and there was nothing you could do about it.
leo leaned forward on the table, his chin resting on his hand. he was brimming with enthusiasm, and you couldn't help but feel just slightly uncomfortable in his presence. "can i ask you something?" he inquired eagerly, his eyes fixed on you.
you sighed inwardly, not wanting to engage but feeling obligated to respond. "do i have a choice?" you quipped, attempting to mask your discomfort. leo didn't seem to notice, too caught up in his own enthusiasm.
suddenly, he pulled out a metal rose from his pocket, presenting it to you with a flourish. "wanna be my girlfriend?" he asked, a hopeful expression on his face.
your siblings snickered around you as your eyes widened in absolute horror. your face felt hot with embarrassment as you struggled to maintain your composure.
"i practically just met you!" you protested, feeling the need to state the obvious.
he had clearly anticipated a different response, going so far as to prepare a metal bouquet in anticipation of impressing you. however, his efforts were in vain. "i'm sorry, but no." you replied firmly, not giving him any room for negotiation.
it was clear that this was not a successful attempt at romance.
Tumblr media
from that day on, it had become the norm for leo to actively pursue you, as he had made it his mission to win your heart. you couldn't deny that he put in a great deal of effort. and he was plenty consistent. for months.
you couldn't help but notice his constant presence, as he seemed to magically appear everywhere you went, making it impossible for you to ignore him.
despite his persistent efforts, leo never pressured you into anything you were not comfortable with. he respected your boundaries and always made sure that he did not cause you any discomfort. it was clear that he adored you, but he never allowed his feelings to dictate his actions towards you.
interestingly enough, it was the reason behind your initial hatred for leo that began to fade away. unfortunately for you, once that seed of doubt was planted, there was no going back. you found yourself unable to justify your previous animosity towards him, in fact, you began to feel guilty for the ill feelings you harbored towards the boy.
after leo's clumsy attempts at asking you out, things became quite awkward between the two of you. you did everything in your power to avoid him, convincing yourself that you loathed him. however, despite your best efforts to push him away, the universe seemed to conspire to bring the two of you together. in fact, you even found yourselves forming an unlikely bond that some might even consider a friendship. leo would somehow magically appear in the same places you happened to be (though he always insisted it was a coincidence), and you found yourself unable to shoo him away as you used to do. yet, despite this newfound closeness, leo's attempts to win your heart remained as elaborate and over-the-top as ever.
from writing your name in fire surrounded by a heart, to asking you out with grand gestures and signs, he never seemed to give up. unfortunately for him, all of his efforts were met with either an indifferent stare or a frown.
maybe your feelings towards leo had changed somewhat, but that did not make him any less unbearable.
Tumblr media
"i just don't get it!" leo complained to piper during free time that day. "i thought me and y/n were making progress, but today she didn't even look at me!"
piper paused from sharpening her dagger and looked up at leo. "what makes you think you were making progress?"
"she let me sit next to her yesterday."
piper couldn't help but let out a laugh, quickly covering it up with a cough. "that was for like two minutes," she scoffed.
leo's face fell. "but i swear i saw her wink at me a few days ago!" he protested.
"she was only blinking in your general direction."
leo mock-glared at the girl. "seriously, you're like an aphrodite kid, aren't you supposed to know this stuff?"
piper rolled her eyes. "shut up. okay, but seriously, come on. think about it. leo, you tend to get infatuated easily and your crushes never last. it's inconsistent. she probably thinks your feelings for her will change once you find someone new."
leo took a step back, not expecting her answer. "but that's not gonna happen!" he retorted, eyes wide with exasperation. "i love her, i swear!"
"prove it to her then." piper responded, running her fingers through her choppy locks. "go find her and prove it."
and that's exactly what he was going to do.
Tumblr media
it's been days since you last saw leo. the usual sight of him following you around, asking to hold your tote bag, or just plain flirting with you is now a distant memory. your tote bag, which he usually holds for you, is now slipping off your shoulder as you sit alone with a feeling of emptiness. you've only seen him run in and out of the workshop, waving at you with the same fire in his eyes but not speaking to you. you keep looking for his head of curly hair everywhere you go, but the inevitable disappointment strikes you every time it isn't him.
although you had been trying to deny it, the truth was that you missed leo terribly. despite his occasional obnoxious flirtations, he was actually quite easy to be around — even more than that, even. maybe you had developed feelings for him that ran much deeper than you ever anticipated. you've been grappling with your emotions for quite some time now, and you were certain that your mask of indifference had already slipped off without your knowledge. you slumped against the wall you were leaning on, feeling the weight of your emotions.
if leo were here, he would have moved you to somewhere you could sit more comfortably, instead of a damn wall. if leo were here, he would have taken your tote bag off your shoulder already, making sure you were not burdened with anything. the absence of his presence now makes you realize just how much he meant to you and how much you miss him.
you pushed yourself off the wall you were leaning against, making your way back to your cabin to sulk, when it happened.
you spotted leo approaching you. his strides were large and purposeful, and you could practically see the determination in his eyes. you could tell he had just emerged from the workshop, his face smeared with soot, but that didn't seem to bother him at all. before you could even react, he had his arms on your shoulders, shaking his head as he gasped for breath, clearly winded from whatever he had been up to. "i've been looking for you everywhere," he said urgently, not giving you a chance to respond.
"okay, look. you know i like you, y/n. you're not like anyone else i've ever met. you're kind, and smart, and funny, and beautiful. and i know that sounds like a lot of flattery, but it's true. i don't think i've ever met anyone who makes me feel the way you do. you make me feel alive, and happy, and.. stuff. and i don't wanna lose that. don't wanna lose you."
he took a deep breath, then continued, "i'm not going to pretend that it was always you, because i've liked other girls before, when i didn't really know what liking someone meant. what i felt for them is not even comparable to what i feel for you right now. it hasn't always been you, but from now on it will."
"i can tell you feel the same way too, even if you try to hide it. you always have a little grin on your face when i come around, and i know you still keep all the things i made for you in your cabin, even though you act like you don't care. but i get it, you're scared. that's okay. i'll prove to you that there's nothing to be afraid of. i'll be devoted and take on more responsibility, because you inspire me to try harder. if you could just give me one chance."
he took a couple steps closer, reaching for your hand, and intertwining his fingers with yours when you didn't pull away. looking deeply into your eyes, he adjusted his grip, his crooked grin indicating that he had rehearsed what he was about to say.
"i guess what i'm trying to say is..." he trailed off, and then pulled out a metal rose from his pocket, just like the one he had given you when he first asked you out. however, this one was special, its intricate patterns reflecting everything that reminded him of you.
"wanna be my girlfriend?" he asked, just like he had all those months ago.
you didn't even hesitate, you just pulled him in by the fabric of his shirt and slotted his lips with yours into a long-awaited, giddy kiss.

The choiceless hope in grief
Summary: Leo Valdez has lived and died for the gods. Their war has shaped his life since he was a baby. With Gaia defeated, he sort of hopes he can finally rest. He has friends and some semblance of home to return to for the first time since he was eight years old. Just this once, he allows himself to hope the good things might stick.
But the gods aren’t done with them just yet, by the time Leo finds his way back, Jason is gone.
This time, Leo decides he’s done just taking the Fates’ bullshit lying down. If getting his best friend back means striking a deal with the gods and venturing into the Underworld… well, it’s probably not even the most reckless thing he’s ever done.
The caveat of said deal? He has to trust Jason will follow him, or his self-doubt will doom them both.
And after the life he’s lived, Leo is so intricately familiar with self-doubt that he could probably trademark the word.
Or: The only possible way for Orpheus to succeed is if he learns to think of himself as a person worth loving.
Word Count for chapter 1: ~5k
Rating: Teen and Up
So! *claps hands together* I’ve been threatening you guys with my Orpheus Eurydice valgrace fic for a while! Technically I wanted to wait to post this until I’m completely done writing the fic, and I mostly intend to stick to that! I’m only posting this now because I have a minor surgery tomorrow and I’d rather be anxious about fic related things than about the surgery in question. So, take this chapter as a preview of sorts, more to come soon-ish but probably not immediately!
A couple of important notes before we start:
-TW for suicidal ideation. It’s less Leo actually wanting to die and more his canon behavior of “I’m doing something extremely reckless that might succeed but if it doesn’t, my death is an acceptable consequence”, paired with general grief related self-loathing, but if you think you’re not in the right headspace to read about that, come back when you are or at least tread carefully. This fic pics up at the end of The Burning Maze, so especially the beginning is pretty heavy on the grief stuff.
-Since ToA is vaguely canon to this fic, Leo and Calypso are technically dating in the beginning, but they don’t really interact positively as a couple (honestly they don’t interact that much in general) and break up pretty early on. Just be aware in advance that they’re still together for a little bit.
-Fic title is from Talk by Hozier which is maybe a painfully obvious pick but it was too perfect for me not to use it.
Chapter 1: Leo and Piper have an extended sleepover
It wasn’t a discussion between Leo and Piper whether or not to go to Jason’s funeral. They came to the decision that they wouldn’t silently—or as silently as one could come to an agreement when all parties involved were sobbing.
Maybe it should have been a discussion. There was a part of Leo that worried he’d regret this later—his refusal to take this chance to say goodbye and let himself grieve.
But Leo remembered his mother’s funeral. Remembered the way his aunt Rosa had looked at him like she knew his mother’s death had been his fault. Leo couldn’t stand the thought of people looking at him like that again.
He also didn’t remember his mother’s funeral bringing him any sense of closure or comfort. He’d stood at her grave, afterwards, just as desperate and afraid and utterly inconsolable as he’d been before the funeral, except it had suddenly felt sickeningly final. The wound it had torn in his soul had kept bleeding for years, and the scars would stay forever. He didn’t need any of Apollo’s shitty oracles to know Jason’s death would be exactly the same.
At this point, Leo was pretty sure his sanity was being held together by a combination of jokes and a truly questionable amount of duct tape.
Beyond all that, though, Camp Jupiter was a battlefield right now. It would continue to be a battlefield for the foreseeable future.
Leo wasn’t a coward. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to go back and help. But one of his best friends was already in a box, and there was no way in hell he’d risk the other.
With how tightly Piper was clinging to him, maybe she was thinking the same thing.
For all his big talk about dragon escorts, Festus did most of the actual escorting on his own, occasionally torching what Leo hoped were monsters and not random public monuments. Leo, for his part, spent most of the journey crammed into the backseat of the car next to Piper, sandwiched between her and a bunch of moving boxes that seemed determined to flatten him into a Leo-shaped pancake whenever they took a sharp turn.
He’d spent so long thinking about seeing her and Jason again.
He’d talked Calypso’s ear off about them the whole journey, to the point where it had clearly started to annoy her. He’d thought about various ridiculous entrances he could make, and the fact that he’d probably get yelled at, but he’d also thought about sitting together by the campfire, sharing nachos. He’d thought about Jason hugging him so fiercely that he couldn’t breathe, and Piper cussing him out while she held him, making him promise never to do anything that reckless again.
Now Piper was actually holding him, and Leo couldn’t feel anything. There was a numbness in his chest. He wasn’t sure he had it in him to ever feel happiness again. Hell, even if he did, what was the fucking point? Every time anything even remotely good happened in his life, it got ripped away from him again.
They didn’t talk a whole lot for most of the drive. They cried until it felt like they couldn’t anymore, clinging to each other like desperate children.
Even if they’d wanted to talk about what had happened, Piper’s dad was right there, and despite the Mist usually working overtime for them, having him overhear seemed like a gamble. Or, well, maybe that was what Leo told himself. Maybe he just wasn't sure he was ready to hear it all. He still felt like he couldn’t think. He was overwhelmed to hell and couldn’t stop fidgeting.
Several hours into the trip, his stomach started grumbling. Piper dug through the bag at her feet and offered him one of her PB&J sandwiches, but Leo couldn’t eat. He hadn’t skipped a meal in forever—he’d been homeless and unsure when he’d even get access to the next meal enough times that it had been all but tattooed into his skull that he couldn’t afford to—but he couldn’t even think about eating without feeling sick. He thought about Jason. He thought about the state he’d left Camp Jupiter in and the fact that they hadn’t even been able to give the dead their proper funeral rites.
Had Leo’s help made any difference at all? Had anything he’d done in his life changed things even slightly?
Leo knew the Fates had intended for it to be fire that fell—for him to burn in a bright, hot blaze and turn himself to charcoal. But he’d refused to stay dead like a good little pawn, and now Jason was gone, and it was all his fault.
He wasn’t sure how Piper could even look at him right now, but he was beyond grateful that she was holding onto him as tightly as she did. It was the only reason he didn’t fall to pieces completely. The cog at the heart of Leo’s machine had broken in a way that made it utterly beyond repair, and now it felt like a matter of time before the whole thing came apart. Piper holding him was the only reason his remaining pieces were still functioning.
It should have been impossible for Leo to fall asleep under these circumstances, but he’d been traveling for hours and fighting before then and he’d cried out his remaining energy, so eventually, the world started to fade around him, reduced to just the sound of Piper’s breaths, until finally, those went, too.
~~~~
It would have been kinder, maybe, if Leo had dreamed up some shitty visions promising violent death and/or the end of the world. That would have been business as usual.
Instead, he dreamed of his time on the Argo II—of one of those early nights when the different groups were still getting to know each other, having a brief moment to breathe between their ridiculous tasks and saving the world.
It had seemed reasonable to catch each other up on what had happened on their end. Percy, Hazel and Frank had talked about rescuing Thanatos, and Piper, Jason and Leo had told them what had happened with Hera in turn.
This would have been a boring intel conversation at best, seeing as Leo had been there for all of their part, but they’d grabbed snacks and sat on cushions on the floor and made it a whole bonding activity. Jason had been wedged between Piper and Leo, and they’d taken turns storytelling.
And Jason had bragged. So much. But he hadn’t even had the decency to brag about himself like a normal human being. Instead, he’d talked about how capable Piper and Leo had been, somehow managing to make Leo sound like the coolest person he’d ever met. Which was ridiculous, considering he’d met everyone else on their team.
And sure, Leo made it sound like he thought he was amazing all the time, but he was exaggerating, which everyone, himself included, knew.
Jason didn’t seem to have gotten the memo, though. He had one arm wrapped around Leo the whole evening, and he got all starry-eyed when he talked.
“Leo took on three Cyclopes by himself. Three!”
“Dude, stop!” Leo had laughed, shaking his head. “I know I’m incredible and you’re blessed to be friends with me and stuff, but you weren’t even conscious for that part.”
“Still happened, though.” Jason had beamed at him. “You’re amazing, dude. I would have died about fifteen times on that mission if it hadn’t been for you. You guys should’ve seen him.”
It would have been easier if Leo had thought Jason was just trying to talk him up to the others to make them more willing to trust him after how badly he’d messed up in New Rome, but Jason wasn’t the type. He’d looked like he honestly believed every single word he was saying.
So, of course, Leo had refused to seriously deal with any of the things that made him feel.
“Sorry, Pipes, but I’m pretty sure your boyfriend is in love with me. It’s the fire powers, I’m afraid. I’m just too hot to resist,” Leo had joked instead, and Piper had untangled herself from Jason’s other side to throw Doritos at Leo, and everything had been right in the universe.
~~~~
Waking up from that, blearily blinking himself awake in the car full of moving boxes and remembering… that was a worse punch in the gut than waking up from most nightmares had been. And Leo should know. He’d had so many of those over the years that he was basically a certified nightmare expert at this point.
Leo wanted to go back in time and spend forever in that one evening, living it over and over and over again until the Fates or a temporal paradox or something eventually killed him. He wanted to hold on to what they’d been back then—the three of them together and happy and whole,back before they’d realized what the prophecy really meant.
He wanted to stay wrapped in Jason’s arm and hear him laugh at whatever stupid joke Leo came up with while he and Piper threw snacks at each other like ten year olds. He wanted to believe he could actually be the person Jason was bragging about—this invincible hero that could do just about anything and saved people’s lives.
But Leo had never been that hero. Even his sacrifice had been the selfish decision of a coward who wasn’t ready to die just yet. Jason had been their Superman. The guy who could fly and threw lightning and saved people from falling to their deaths. Jason had been the hero. And ultimately, that had been what killed him.
Leo wasn’t exactly sure what he planned to do once they got to Oklahoma. He should have been heading back to the Waystation, to give Calypso the normal life he’d promised. But he wasn’t thinking about Calypso, or the Waystation, and the thought of a normal life had gone out of the window the second he’d seen the coffin. Besides, the Waystation would mean people asking questions, wanting to know about his mission and asking him to talk about his feelings, and he didn’t want that.
The only thing Leo really wanted to do right now was not think.
By the time they got to the house, it was so late that cross-country dragon flight seemed inadvisable for visibility reasons alone, so Leo agreed to stay the night. Festus nuzzled him for a bit, got a fuel snack from the canister Leo had brought and then folded down into his million pound suitcase form for the night.
It took a little under two hours to carry all the boxes inside, which was an annoying amount of time to be carrying boxes but seemed like an absurdly short amount to move the contents of an entire life.
They spent some time in search of the necessities that needed to be unpacked, but the house was still furnished and also had running water and electricity as of a few days ago, so it wasn’t that bad.
While Piper went in search of some ancient camping gear so Leo wouldn’t have to sleep on the floor—this seemed silly to him, the floor was far from the worst place he’d ever slept—Leo asked Piper’s dad if he could help with dinner.
Tristan looked relieved at his offer, actually. He’d been staring at the assorted vegetables with a slightly lost expression, trying to hack at one of the zucchinis with a butter knife. It seemed like he was trying to remember how cooking worked and had just discovered he had absolutely no idea.
Considering how long he’d been an insanely rich guy with a personal cook, Leo guessed that actually might have been a pretty accurate read on the situation.
“You might want to try a sharper knife,” Leo suggested, which made Piper’s dad look absolutely mortified. “Try not to chop off any of your fingers, though. I think Piper’s been traumatized enough for one week.”
The words were out of his mouth before Leo could think to stop them. Tristan didn’t laugh, but at least it didn’t seem like he’d be tossing Leo out of the house over this. Maybe he realized people sometimes said stupid shit when they were grieving. Maybe Piper had just warned him in advance that Leo was like this sometimes.
Tristan just went to find a different knife, which would have maybe been concerning if he hadn’t gone back to hacking at the vegetables a moment later.
“Well, at least this one is actually cutting through the zucchinis. That’s already an improvement.”
“Yeah, I’m basically a cooking expert,” Leo said with a grin, only half-joking. He went to peel and chop up the carrots, and was done with those and about half the mushrooms by the time the poor zucchini had been hacked to bits.
“You and Piper went to school together, right?” Tristan asked after a while of them quietly chopping vegetables for the casserole, trying to make sense of things with information he didn’t have and that, judging from past evidence, probably would have made his skull crack. “You and her and Jason.”
“Yeah. We went to Wilderness school together.” Leo winced, trying not to think too hard of Jason while also trying to remember the lies they’d already told Piper’s dad. At this rate, he was pretty worried his own skull would crack, too. “Then all three of us switched to a different school. Then I was gone for a while.”
Tristan nodded like this made perfect sense, though he mostly seemed lost in thought. That was a little rude, in Leo’s opinion. If he went through all that effort to remember their elaborate setup of lies, the least Piper’s dad could do was appreciate it!
“I’m glad you’re here now, with everything that’s happened. Piper was really upset when you left,” Tristan said, still with that faraway look in his eyes. “The last few months were hard for her. Between the move and the breakup, she really could have used a friend.”
Leo promptly lost all rights to make fun of Piper’s dad and his vegetable chopping skills because at the word ‘breakup’, the knife slipped and he nearly sliced off two of his fingers.
“Fuck! Ow!” he said eloquently, trying to avoid bleeding all over the cutting board in his attempt to get to the sink. “Jason and Piper broke up?”
The question sounded absurd even to his own ears. Why would Jason and Piper break up? They’d been happy together.
Surely, Piper’s dad had to be talking about something else.
To Leo’s shock, Tristan nodded.
“A while ago, yes,” he said, but he didn’t go into details—possibly because Leo was bleeding all over the sink. “We should bandage that. Do you think you need stitches?”
“No, the cuts aren’t that deep,” Leo decided, turning on the faucet and holding his bleeding hand under the stream of cold water. Maybe he should have been more concerned about the injury, but his mind was still whirring at the thought of his best friends breaking up. Unfortunately, the cold water stung like hell. He hissed with pain. “Sorry for making your kitchen look like a crime scene right after moving in. Usually, I at least have the decency to wait a day or two.”
Because the house was a small, cozy place and Leo had not had the decency to curse quietly, Piper appeared in the doorway a moment later, an alarmed expression on her face.
“What happened?”
“I’ve been bested by a stupid potato,” Leo cursed, holding up his bleeding hand and wiggling his fingers for emphasis. He figured out immediately that this was a mistake. “Ow.”
“Stop that, dumbass!” Piper cursed, moving to stand beside him. “Sink was the right call, but you need to use soap or the cuts could get infected. Dad, any chance we have gauze lying around somewhere?”
Tristan didn’t seem to question why his daughter had immediately jumped into emergency medical treatment mode. He just abandoned the cutting board and headed for the front door.
“Not exactly sure what box our regular medical supplies are in, but I’ll get the first aid kit from the car. I’ll be right back.”
“Do we have to do the soap?” Leo whined, because fuck, that stung, but Piper nodded with a scary expression on her face, so he complied. “How do you even know this stuff? Are we sure you’re not secretly an Apollo kid?”
“I know this stuff because I’m friends with a bunch of morons who have zero sense of self-preservation,” Piper cursed, gritting her teeth. “You shouldn’t be around knives when you’re this distracted.”
“I can usually cook just fine when I’m distracted. Your dad was the one who told me you and Jason broke up in the middle of this stupid potato,” Leo said defensively. “Is that the Mist messing with him?”
That was the only explanation his mind had supplied so far that made any sense to him.
Piper shook her head. “We really did break up. That was a few months ago.”
Leo felt his jaw hit the floor.
“What the hell happened? You were together for ages. I thought- you always seemed so happy.”
“I know, but-” Piper broke off abruptly when her dad came back inside with the first aid kit. Demigod stuff, then?
Leo’s mind was racing. The breakup was a completely stupid thing to focus on, considering everything that had happened in the last few days. He knew that.
But it was easier to try and make sense of this than it was to try and make sense of the fact that Jason was gone and he’d never get to see him again.
“Is it alright if we do this somewhere else?” Piper asked her dad, taking the first aid kit from him.
“Of course. It might be easier to patch him up when you’re both sitting down, anyway.” He turned towards Leo. “Thank you for your help, but I think I can take it from here.”
Leo sent a silent prayer to whichever deity was responsible for protecting vegetables—Demeter, probably?—and gave what he hoped was an encouraging thumbs up with his uninjured hand before he followed Piper into the hallway to presumably be reprimanded some more.
~~~~ They ended up sitting on an old bed that looked like it had lived a long, miserable life and was excited for retirement, but the wooden frame thankfully didn’t break down under the weight of the new mattress or the additional weight of them sitting on said mattress. Piper explained that this had been her dad’s room when he’d lived here as a child, and that it would probably become her room now. Then she went very quiet and focused on bandaging his hand, clearly avoiding looking at him.
“It wasn’t because of me, was it?” Leo asked. The thought made him feel ill. “Please tell me it wasn’t something like, I don’t know, you two being unable to stand being around each other after what happened to me. I think I’d actually have to blow myself up again if it was.”
He tried to make it sound like a joke, but it didn’t feel like one at all. The thought that he'd managed to ruin his best friends’ relationship on top of everything else made it hard to breathe.
When Piper shook her head, it felt like a whole boulder was lifted off his shoulders.
“I actually think we would have broken up sooner if you hadn’t gone missing. We leaned on each other a lot after you disappeared. It wasn’t until we realized we wouldn’t find you and things started to settle down a little that I had time to think. And when I did…” Her voice went very quiet, and she still didn’t look up at him. “I realized I wasn’t happy in the relationship. I don’t think I ever was.”
“How did I not know that?” Leo wondered quietly. “I just… you two seemed happy to me. What kind of garbage best friend am I?”
Piper shook her head. “It isn’t your fault. I was telling myself I was happy for a long time. It’s almost- sometimes I wonder if I was charmspeaking myself. That maybe I kept saying I was in love with Jason until I convinced myself I actually was. And with Hera and my mom setting it up… I love-” her voice caught in her throat, and Leo felt like maybe he needed to throw up, “-loved Jason, but not like that.”
“Pipes, I’m really sorry.” Leo squeezed her shoulder. “That sounds like it was super hard for both of you.” Leo felt awful about the fact that he hadn’t even been around to comfort either of them, but it wasn’t like he could fix it now. It was just another item on Leo’s unending list of epic screwups he’d never be able to make up for.
“Jason was… well, he took it exactly like I expected him to. He was surprised, but he didn’t get angry or anything. He mostly seemed okay. Part of me wonders if maybe…” But whatever Piper had been thinking about, she seemed to decide it wasn’t important. “It was hard to get a proper read on him, and as nice as he was about it, things were still super awkward after. I'm terrified he died thinking I didn’t care about him.”
And then she was tearing up again, and Leo thought he would shatter if she cried.
“He knew you cared,” he said as earnestly as he could manage, pulling Piper to his chest again. “You love way too annoyingly for him not to have known. Hell, even I know you love me, and we both know I’m a fucking nightmare when it comes to this stuff.”
“I missed you so much,” she whispered, wrapping her arms around his back like it was the easiest thing in the world.
“Oh, I’m about to make you regret saying that,” Leo said, forcing himself to smile. “I’ll bring it up each and every time you say you find something I do annoying.”
“You’re annoying as hell, but you’re still my best friend.” He could feel her tears dripping onto his shoulder, and he knew that would make him start up again too. “I don’t know how I’d do this without you.”
And well, passing away from dehydration after crying too much would be a really lame way to die the second time, but everything was just too much right now, so if that was how he went, Leo wasn’t sure anyone could blame him.
~~~~
For the next couple of weeks, Leo stayed.
Helping Piper and her dad unpack was the perfect way to keep himself occupied and not have to think. Usually, a mundane task like this probably would have driven Leo nuts. But right now, it was a bit of a godsend—if not literally, at least figuratively. Being productive was always so much easier when it was done in order to avoid something you wanted to do even less. There was a reason his spaces in the foster homes had only ever been tidy when he had exams coming up.
He helped cook, too, and Piper’s dad became increasingly less garbage at it the longer this went on—like muscle memory was finally kicking in after years of disuse.
It was mostly good—listening to Piper reminisce about trips she’d taken with her dad and where she’d gotten the weird variety of items she kept in her room. When they weren’t unpacking, Leo and Piper played video games or watched movies or explored the area. Twice, during the night, they took Festus on a little flight to a nearby fast food place. Finding a parking spot was a bit of a nightmare, unfortunately. Leo would submit a complaint about their inability to accommodate celestial bronze dragons the first chance he got.
The first time they tried hiking—Leo didn’t even like hiking, he’d spent enough time outside for several lifetimes, why did he do this to himself—they got hopelessly lost in the woods, and of course, due to demigod bullshit, neither of them had brought a phone, so Google Maps wasn’t an option. It was probably for the better. The last thing that situation needed on top of them being lost was a monster attack.
They were already jokingly planning out their new life in the woods when, thankfully, a girl their age came to their rescue.
“A human being! Thank the gods. The squirrels weren’t talking to us,” Leo greeted her, which had Piper shout “Please ignore Leo!” loudly from the branches of the tree she’d been climbing.
The girl lifted her head, spotted Piper and promptly burst out laughing.
“What in the world are you doing up there?”
“Trying to get a better vantage point,” Piper sighed, making her way back down the tree. “We’re hopelessly lost.”
“Well, nice to meet you, hopelessly lost. I’m Shel,” the girl said, still grinning. Leo decided immediately that he liked her.
Piper had almost made it back down when she somehow missed a branch and fell the rest of the way. In comedic movie fashion, Shel moved before Leo had the chance to and caught her mid-tumble. “That was a bit of a dramatic way to get my attention, but you’re cute, so I’ll allow it.”
“Oh yeah, Piper’s got a bit of a thing with falling for people that way,” Leo commented, and Piper gave him her most murderous look while she got back on her feet.
“You guys need help getting back?”
“Please, yes,” Piper said immediately. “It turns out we’re both garbage with maps.”
“Maybe you just need a tour guide next time,” Shel suggested, winking at Piper, whose face turned scarlet. Leo wasn’t even mad about being the third wheel for once. He’d give her so much shit about this later.
And he did. And then Piper properly came out to him—no label or anything, mostly as extremely confused but sure she liked girls, which also made a few additional pieces click into place regarding her breakup with Jason. She ended her anxiety-riddled explanation by thanking Leo for being so normal and annoying about all this.
Which was how Leo realized he’d apparently never told Piper he was bi.
Or maybe he had, and it had gotten lost along with their other memories of Wilderness. Stupid memory-stealing babysitters.
Well, at least they got to hug about it now.
~~~~
It was strange how normal some days felt when nothing would ever truly be normal again. When in every moment Leo and Piper spent together, the gaping hole that had been ripped into their trio was so blatantly obvious.
The benefit and problem of this friendship was that Leo and Piper were both experts at not talking about things they were struggling with.
This wasn’t exactly news. From what little Leo did remember of Wilderness School, they’d spent months not talking about his mom, or about the fact that Piper’s dad kept canceling their weekend plans. They’d both known there were things left unsaid, but as long as they’d been able to cheer each other up, that hadn’t really mattered. It made sense, honestly. Put two people who hadn’t had a shoulder to cry on for ages in a room together and see what happens!
Right now, this meant they were expertly ignoring the box of belongings Piper had picked up from Jason’s school. It had been pushed so far under the bed during that first night that it was no longer visible, and neither of them made any effort to move it out of its new home since. They ignored the topic of Jason, period, until it inevitably hit them in the face again.
It was mostly dumb shit that set them off. Piper automatically reaching for vanilla ice cream at the grocery store because it was Jason’s favorite—seriously, who in their right mind even liked vanilla ice cream?
Sometimes, Leo would make a joke and burst into tears instead of laughing because he knew it would have cracked Jason up. They found old photos unpacking. One time, Piper’s dad suggested they make tacos and they started simultaneously bawling their eyes out.
Leo had spent a long time exactly like this—pretending everything was normal and okay when it wasn’t either of those things until he inevitably broke down. Then he’d started to actually feel sort of okay whenever he was with Jason and Piper. Now, he was sure he would spend the rest of his life pretending.
His appetite was too used to being stuck in survival mode for him to bow to nausea for long, so he went back to eating properly after a few days. He still cried himself to sleep most nights. He kept dreaming about Jason. The memories wrapped themselves around him like a safety blanket that he knew would get ripped away again in the morning. He always woke up feeling empty. Sometimes, he wished he could just go to sleep and never wake up again.
But other than that, it was mostly good.
Then demigod communications went back up, and everything went to hell.
Chapter notes:
Fun fact! I originally planned for this chapter (as well as the next few chapters) to just be backstory in my head and for me to maybe do a flashback or two. Unfortunately for me, Piper McLean waltzed into the room and refused to leave.
I do actually think the fic works better this way, but it will take a second to get to the plot! Hopefully you’ll enjoy the whole journey :)
I may not be able to have Leo and Piper go to Jason’s funeral without seriously messing with the plot of Tyrant’s Tomb, but I could at least pick the most evil reason possible for them not to go!
Side note: I sort of forgot that Hedge and Mellie were supposed to be here according to TBM, but by the time I remembered I already had this chapter written out and, as someone who cannot be bothered to figure out how to write them, I decided to just leave it. ToA is vaguely canon to this universe, but only for the most part. Some details are inaccurate, and I think that’s okay.
Anyway, thank you so much for reading! Comments and reblogs super, super appreciated as always!!
List of people that at some point asked to be tagged when I post this: @poppitron360 @ginnyluna @keefessketchbook (feel free to comment if you want to get taken off or be put on the tag list for future chapters!)
Tumblr media
super clingy i do not make the rules
oh you thought you were gonna get up and be productive?? not today!
fuck everyone else tbh
LOVEEES gossip sessions with u
hes so invested in all the drama u have
probably laying on his stomach and swinging his feet and gasping incredulously. "what!? no she did not..."
got very pouty that you did not invite him to the girls night bc he didnt want to "miss out on the tea" (lwk stealing from my own work oops)
who can blame him tbh
LOVE LOVES DANCING
loves teaching u too (even if u suck)
like imagine him holding your waist and moving you to the beat as you fumble along, his chest pressed up against your own
GOOD LORD
"forward, back, left- there you go," he murmured into your ear, looking down at your feet. you stepped on his shoes a lot more than you should've; did he ever think that his proximity was why you were messing up!?
"you suck at this, don't you?" he laughed, but twirled you around anyway.
"did you ever think you're just a shit teacher?"
"rude!"
also this man was born a star
can probably hit super high notes as if its nothing
ok so we all know how hes a genius right
oh my GOD imagine him explaining how his stuff works and using words you're sure don't even exist and he's so into it and he just sounds so SMART
intelligence is so attractive why does no one talk abt that
you wanted to watch him work on the engine, so you pulled up a stool next to him. you stared at his side, his tank top dirty with grease and sticky with sweat. how long had he been working since you got here?
you'd get mad at him for not taking a break later. right now? you were admiring the view. who wouldn't?
"hey leo?"
he hummed in response, still hyper-focused on the engine.
"how does all that work, exactly?" you were never one for machines—good thing you have a mechanic boyfriend!
he looks to you, a happy glimmer in his eyes. "you really wanna know? so basically— this part connects to that part and then..."
you don't know how long you've been zoned out, too busy staring at his perfect
"y/n?" he finally realizes you haven't been paying attention. "you with me, now?" he raises an eyebrow with a grin on his face.
"huh? what?" you straightened up, fumbling over your words. "yeah! why wouldn't i be?" you tried to act as if you weren't just ogling him seconds before.
"oh y'know.. cause you were checking me out." he winked, leaning back against the engine as he put himself on display. "i mean, you obviously couldn't help it. i mean, look at me!"
someone humble him
its not like he doesn't do the same tho
if he accidentally walks in on you he'd be like "oh my gods-! sorry!" and cover his eyes with his hands, but his fingers are parted so he could still look through. literally the 🫣 emoji
"GET OUT!"
"OKAY I'M GOING DON'T HIT ME- OW!"
he is SUPER ticklish and you WILL use this to your advantage
esp his ears
one time you touched them out of curiosity cause theyre pointer than average and he was like "eek!"
pause
"aww i didn't know you could make that sound!" you poked some more fun at him because that was adorable
"shut up!"
another time he's laying on you, ruining your plans of getting up early and being active. you tried rolling out from underneath him but his arms snake around you like a vice, squeezing a groan out of you.
"leo get off!" you tried shoving him off, but that didn't work either. he simply buried his face into your neck, mumbling a tired no.
you really had shit to do, so you resorted to the last possible tactic. "i didn't wanna have to do this..." you warned. (you so wanted to do this)
you slipped your hands under his shirt and started tickling his stomach, effectively getting him writhing off you with laughter.
"stop-! that tickles!" he tried doing the same back, but he was squirming far too much.
ok real talk now
love loves staying up late with you until its past midnight and you guys are just rambling about random topics. he's just so relaxed with you, his heart feels so full and there's no space anymore, so his bottled up emotions spill out
which is usually a closely-guarded secret because he's just the funny guy of the group, right?
what does he know about feelings? isn't it his job to just keep everyone else happy? joking about everything will take away the pain, won't it?
(it doesn't)
"i don't know, i just- feel like i don't really fit in with everyone. they all have these cool powers, and i'm just.. me." he laughed dryly, face devoid of his usual happiness as he stared at the ceiling. "sometimes, i feel like you could do so much better. but at the same time?" his voice lowered as he rolled onto his side, staring into your eyes. "i want to keep you to myself. i really, really don't want to lose you."
you were glad he finally opened up to you, but your heart ached at the way he thought of himself. how could he not see how highly everyone thought of him, especially you?
"just you? leo, you're the coolest person i know. you're so, so smart, you can fix just about anything, you're funny, you're kind, you can cook; what's not to love?" you smiled softly. you could go on and on about this man. for him to think that he was the lucky one? it was quite the opposite.
"and you don't have to worry," you whispered, cuddling closer to him and pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "i'll always be with you."
~ tw(s) : nothing i can think of?
────────────────────────────────────────────
1st time.
you shot up in bed, sitting and shaking while your breath heaved. you'd had another nightmare, which wasn't unusual at this point, but you still felt the rush of anxiety through you after it had happened. you looked around, making sure everything was ok around you. yup, your sleeping siblings still were safe in their beds.
you got up, and threw on a hoodie over your pajamas, then slipped on some shoes. you needed a walk to clear your head, and that nightmare was still embedded in your mind. you walked over to the door, stepping carefully. you opened the door and sneaked outside, closing it carefully to ensure your siblings wouldn't wake up.
it was a strangely cold summer morning, very early, right after sunrise. though, you wouldn't be able to tell with the clouds covering the sky. you took in a deep breath, inhaling the sweet smell of the cold.
you decided to go sit by the lake, which wasn't very far. no one else was awake, and you thought about your nightmare as you walked. it was a repetitive one. one you wouldn't never let go, the memory haunting you forever.
you snapped out of your mind as you noticed someone was already sitting at your favorite bench. he had dark curls, and seemed to be tinkering with something. you didn't know anyone else that could've been awake at this point.
"you're in my spot." you said. walking closer. the turned around and smiled. he had a sharp grin on, and his dark brown eyes seemed to gleam with mischief. you felt your cheeks warm, probably from the cold.
"actually, i was here first." he announced, scooting so he sat directly in the middle of the bench, so there was no space for you to sit comfortably. you frowned and crossed your arms.
"hey, man, just let me sit here in peace. i need it." you sighed, watching him twitch with energy.
"no thank you, princess, i'd prefer to be here too." he went back to the project in his hands. it was a small, toy dragon. yet it was made of celestial bronze. odd. you walked around so you were facing him, and kicked him in the shins.
"dude, just go find another spot. there's like, dozens of benches." you groaned. he winced but just laughed.
"so why don't you go find one?" he smirked, spinning the tail on his toy. you bit your lip, frustrated at his stubborness.
"because.." this is my favorite bench, not yours, you wanted to say, but held back. "because i like it. okay? at least make room for me." you finally offered. he thought a bit, and nodded.
"sure, i'd love to sit next to a beautiful girl like you." he adjusted, so there was space for you. you sat next to him, watching the lake ripple and sway.
"soo... whatcha doin out here this early?" he asked, is eyes fixated on the dragon.
"says you." you glanced over, smirking a little. he looked up and noticed your smile, causing him to grin too.
"well, i wanted some time alone. obviously, it didn't end up that way, but i just needed some... time." he said, glancing at his dragon. he seemed so obsessed with it. you wanted to ask, but decided against it.
"yeah..." you nodded. after a bit more silence, broken by the occasional squeak of metal grinding against each other, you sighed.
"so, what's your name?" you asked, looking over at the boy. he smiled.
"leo valdez, at your service." he grinned. "and my dragon, festus!" he lifted the dragon up, so the light shone on it. you nodded.
"what about you, princess?" he asked. you were about to say, when a bell rang. wow you guys had been out there for a while. it was breakfast time, and you wanted to hurry back to change. you smiled at him, and got up.
"next time we meet, maybe you'll know." you teased, and ran off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2nd time.
camp half-blood had finished, summer was over. autumn had rolled in, and you were off to go back home. you promised your siblings to come back to visit, but you dearly missed your dad. he was always supportive of you, and when you were a kid he'd share amazing stories of your mother. you always thought he was joking, or trying to make you feel better, but you realized he was in love.
now, the hermes cabin and decided to play a prank on leaving campers. see, the campers had to drop off their suitcases (if they had them) with their things in the big house, so it could be watched over before they left.
the next day, wandered over to the big house. as you did, you noticed the disarray of confused campers and one upset chiron. you sneaked past them, into the room, to see the mess. the suitcases were all over the ground, the stuff in them had been switched into others, the tags crossed out and tossed. it was chaotic.
"oh my gods..." you gasped, seeing your favorite shirt on the couch, your suitcase on the other side of the room. you dashed to pick it up, weaving through the other campers.
as you stuck your hand out to grab it, you heard the sigh of the camp director.
"you all better help! this is going to set us back by at least a day!" he groaned, talking to the hermes kids. they all seemed pleased, but put on a poker face of sadness and remorse.
you walked around the room, snatching up skewed items of yours. as you came across your suitcase, you noticed a black haired boy rummaging through it, cursing as he kept pulling out bolts and pieces.
"leo?!" you asked, kicking him off of it. he winced but glanced up.
"oh, hey princess." he grinned. he backed up, pointing at the suitcase. "the hermes cabin stole some of my nuts and bolts and threw them around into the suitcases. i need them all for my project." he sighed. "is this your suitcase?"
"yes, it is mine. i would appreciate if you didn't go through it." you said sharply, kneeling to shove your clothes in it. he backed up, blushing.
"oh, sorry. i didn't mean to, i just needed the scraps that had fallen in..." he promised, opening his hand to reveal the items. you glanced and shrugged.
"okay, whatever," you said, and quickly zipped up your bag, and stood up, facing leo. he gave you a nervous grin, and fidgeted. his fingers were twitching.
"so, uh, princess, never got that name of yours." he said, smirking. he hoped you would lay off your bitter words.
"never threw it." you teased back, grinning. he smiled, rubbing his arms. you bit your lip, then told him.
"gods, that's a really pretty na-" suddenly was a loud crashing sound from outside.
"AH! KIDS!" chiron said, as some hermes campers had fallen off of a makeshift stack of luggage. he groaned and walked inside, nervous at the disarray.
"if anyone's ready, we have a bus prepared." he said, trying his best to be calm. a couple kids hurried out, and you looked back at leo.
"see ya next summer, leo." you smiled, and started walking out.
"you too, princess!" he called back, grinning.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3rd time.
it was the next summer, and you were chosen to go on a quest. one you couldn't possibly go on. you were sitting on the steps of your cabin, slightly shivering at the thought of terrors ahead.
you were so caught up in your mind, you hadn't noticed the boy who'd come up to you.
"hey, um, everything ok?" a voice asked. you looked up. leo was standing there, awkwardly. he had worry written all over his face, and you felt bad.
"yeah yeah, of course." you assured, trying to stop your quaking. he shook his head, and sat right next to you.
"it's ok if you're not. quests can be really scary. not the actual thing, sometimes, but just the idea." you felt like breaking down. you'd been stressed recently, and the idea of crying into leo's arms was becoming more and more appealing.
"thanks." you said, and went back to staring off in the distance, your mind lingering. leo nodded, and took your hand in his. it made your heart flutter, but you shook it off as nerves. he made gentle circles with his thumb, reassuring you.
"just so you know, i think you're gonna do great. you're the best fighter i've seen." he said it seriously. whether or not that was true, you'd never know. but you smiled.
"thanks, like, seriously. i'd been stressed for a bit, and this on top..." you responded, shaking your head. he listened.
"hey, if you ever need to talk, drop by my cabin. i'll listen." he said. you felt you heart skip again. i'll listen. gods, this boy was gonna drive you crazy. you nodded, and leaned on leo's shoulder. he let you, not trying to do anything romantic or cheesy. he just wanted to be a comforting friend.
"leo, what was the first quest you'd ever done?" you said quietly. he sighed, relaxing his shoulders a little.
"me, piper, and jason had just gotten to camp half-blood. then we were sent to go beat up some giants to stop the first part of gaeas plan of rising. i think we did well." he grinned, looking over at you. you smiled.
"i.. i'm really scared." you admitted. he nodded slowly, motioning for you to continue. "i've never gone on a quest, and what good would i do?" you asked nervously. he looked surprised and shook his head.
"what do you mean 'what good would you do'? everyone has a key role to play. even you. i swear." he said, smiling reassuringly. you nodded.
"can you stay here for a bit?" you asked, shaking still ever so slightly. he nodded. you to sat there, enjoying each others company in silence.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
you'd just gotten back from you quest, and gods did it feel good to be back. your clothes were tattered, and you were exhausted. campers cheered as you and your fellow buddies from the quest arrived, grinning and hugging you guys. you hugged them all back, but searched the crowd. nothing.
"hey, princess!" you glanced over and smiled at the voice. leo was standing towards the back, on top of something to get his height up. you released the person you'd been hugging and quickly ran around the campers. you stopped in front of leo, who'd been standing on a brick.
"leo, get down here!" you cried over the voices of the other campers yelling. he nodded, and crawled down, and you threw your arms around him. "gods, i missed you!" you exclaimed, holding him tight.
leo was very surprised, but quickly held you tight against him too. you bit your lip, stepping back to look into his eyes. after a week of thinking, you had realizations.
"leo, can i-" you were broken of by leo's lips pressing against yours, hungry with love and longing. you felt yourself gasp, but kissed him back. gods you hadn't realized how much you'd wanted this.
you two stood there, in each others presence like nothing else mattered. it felt like the world had stopped. he was kissing you. and you loved it.

Posting this before I go to bed:
——————————————————————————————————————-——————————————————————————————————————-
The seven of them sat in the mess hall. Leo served them dinner.
“And today from Chef Leo’s kitchen, Mac ‘n’ cheese!”
“Cheese?” Frank asked.
“Don’t worry, big guy, it’s lactose-free cheese,” Leo said.
“I’ve tried that stuff before,” Frank said, “It tastes like plastic.”
“Just… give it a try. Trust me. I put my own little spin on it,” Leo assured him.
“Great,” Frank mumbled, clearly not convinced. He reluctantly took a forkful.
A look of utter euphoria spread across Frank’s face. He turned to Leo, his eyes wide with shocked pleasure.
“Oh! Oh, Leo, this is so good!”
Leo nodded, humbly.
“No, but seriously, this is Frank-friendly?”
“And Vegan. It’s also high in protein and carbs, therefore it’s great if you wanna hit the gym. So yes, very Frank-friendly.”
“Where’d you learn to cook like this, man?”
“From my mom,” Leo said, “Though I wonder if there’s any fire abilities that come into it- I always know the exact temperature to take it off the heat. And I know what saucepans to use, what the best materials are, their properties, et cetera. That plays a big part in it.”
“Wow… just, wow, man,” Frank said, and took another forkful, “You are making me this for every meal from now on.”
“Just wait until you try my cheeseless cheese pizza.”
“Pizza!?” Frank’s face was utterly overjoyed, “I love you, Leo Valdez.”
Leo was a little flustered at the confession, although Frank obviously meant it as a joke.
“No, but seriously. Marry me. Live with me forever and just cook me food, the whole time. Be my stereotypical kitchen wife,” As if to emphasise the point, he clambered off his chair and got down on one knee. Leo was barely taller than him in his lowered state, but the gesture was obvious.
“Frank!” Hazel cried, incredulously.
“Sorry, honey, but you don’t understand,” Frank said, turning to Hazel, “It’s so hard to find good food I can actually eat. I love you, but I have no choice but to leave you for Leo.”
Hazel sighed in mock-resolve, “I completely understand, Frank.”
“You do?”
Hazel put the back of her hand to her forehead in a dramatic faint, “Now go. Be with him.”
Frank turned back to Leo now. They were all grinning.
“Leo Valdez, will you marry me?”
“Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!” Leo cried, and leaped into Frank’s arms. Frank caught him, and Leo could tell he barely weighed a thing to the big guy.
The others cheered.

“Good morning Mr. Valdez” Leo greets, eyes soft and hands playing over Jason’s neck and shoulders like he can't get enough of him “That was quite a wake up”
Mr. Valdez. That's him now. It shoots something right through Jason, joy and pride and excitement, sharing the name. And not just any name, Leo’s name. A name he gifted to Jason, wiping clean a past he never wanted and replacing it with love and family. It's all Leo has left of his bio family, nothing else of his mother and her love aside the necklace that refuses to melt, and he gave it to Jason without a second thought.
They barely talked about it when it came up, if they should share a last name. All it took was the careful worry of the Grace legacy and Leo was offering it up. No tension, no hesitation, no concern of how Jason could tarnish the word. Just the easy love and the excitement of Jason belonging even more to him
And now for everyone to call him that, for his husband to call him that, Jason can feel the stars in his eyes as he looks down at the amazing man beneath him. How did he get so lucky?
Their friends and families were probably correct about them vacating the Way Station for some kind of honeymoon, the Way Station doesn't have room service and Jason has just decided he's not letting his husband out of bed today
“Are you getting all puppy possessive again” Leo laughs at his blown-out expression
“I married you” Jason breathes in awe
“That you did” Leo’s smile is so so soft “I married you back”
“Your mine, forever”
“Oh mi cielo” he takes Jason’s face in his hands “I already was”
Jason kisses him, and kisses him and kisses him. He kisses him until natural oxygen is hard to draw in and he has to make his own to feed into his husband, breathing into him just as much as he takes his breath away. Its desperate and claiming and Leo gives back as good as he gets, his own breath going heated against Jason’s lips and becoming visible between them. It would burn if Jason didn't run so cool, so instead he just licks into his husband's mouth and does everything in his power to drink him down
“Can I have you again?” Jason asks, suddenly needy when they break apart
“Again?” Leo pants winded
“Please again” he's sucking hickeys into the unblemished skin of his Leo’s neck, the barrier of ‘I don't want to be chewed up in our wedding photos’ now lifted “Wanna get you there again”
“Yeah sure yeah okay” Leo slurs back, voice catching with each mark Jason decorates him with “stuffs in the bags”
Jason lets himself have an excited happy wiggle before he demands Leo to “Stay”, clambering out of the big bed to Leo’s protest of “I'm not the one who's a dog here!”
Jason finds the lube in record time, mostly because it's a brand new giant bottle right on top. The kind with a pump spout that has a note attached with a ribbon that says nothing more than ‘Have Fun ♡ - C.’
“She did not!” Leo cackles after Jason tosses the bottle at him, untying the ribbon so it doesnt get gross and laughing his head off as he rereads the note. He flings the fabric, note and all, out of the way as Jason crawls back into his space still giggling as he kisses him again
“There's this too” Jason shows the rose made out of condoms that was under the lube, it sends Leo back into hysterics
“Oh my god Georgie drew shit on them” Leo laughs as he unrolls the rose. True to his word there's little cartoon Leo and Jason’s on the wrappers in his sister-in-law’s style “we can't use these there a work or art”
As cute as he is laughing at their weird family, Jason wants all of his husband's attention right now. Jason shoves his head between where Leo is using both hands to hold the string of condoms, nosing his way in so he can get at his clavicle. He facens his mouth there immediately, with both teeth and suction, in the way he knows will always get a delicious little noise out of Leo.
Leo's mirth is broken off with the desired groan, one that makes the back of Jason’s brain purr. He doesn't need to look to know that Leo has tossed aside his distraction as one hand slides into Jason’s hair and the other grips his bicept to hold on. Jason turns his face ever so slightly so he can press a kiss into the entry point of Leo’s lightning scar
“You got me I'm here” Leo reassures, the call and response natural after so long, and Jason just starts up the smallest trail of Lichtenberg figures that creep up Leo’s neck. He follows the rougher patch of skin until it tapers off, and then he keeps going all the way to Leo’s mouth. By the time he's made it there to lock their lips together Leo is putty under him, just as he should be
“M gonna finger you” Jasons says when he pulls back a breath “that okay?”
“So okay” Leo agrees and then drags Jason back down to kiss him again

can i please request anything percy/leo? like maybe headcannons on being best friends to lovers or something?
thank you!! <3
hi! i decided to do this request for leo because i literally love leo so much <3 thank you sm for the request! this can be read as a child of any god or goddess!
: ̗̀➛⇢ ˗ˏˋ best friends to lovers with leo valdez! ࿐ྂ
you and leo first met at the wilderness school
you had been going there for a few months when leo started, and you became fast friends
you could relate on a lot of things, and you understood each other more than you thought anyone could understand you
it was just the two of you for a few months, until piper came along and then it was the three of you
you and leo were still best friends, you were close with piper of course, but it kind of felt like you and leo against the world if that makes sense
he was your person, there was no doubt about it
piper found her person when jason started at the wilderness school
(though you later learned that all of that was an illusion of the mist, but it really seems like this happened)
so, to say that you and leo were very close would be an understatement
you were practically attached at the hip
everything you did, you did together
you even managed to get all your classes together, so there were basically no moments aside from when you were asleep, having to go to your separate dorms, were you weren't together
a lot of people thought you would get sick of each other, piper and jason included, but you kinda just never did
you enjoy each other's company
it didn't take long for the feelings to start surfacing on both ends
it was difficult, however, because you both thought that the other just saw the other as a best friend, but you both were wanting something romantic out of the relationship
piper thought it was obvious (being the daughter of aphrodite, she had a sort of sixth sense for these things)
as the time passed, you and leo were getting closer and closer, and everything changed the night before the grand canyon field trip
you were strangely nervous about the field trip, but you couldn't put your finger on why
you just had a bad feeling, and couldn't explain it
you couldn't sleep, so leo stayed with you out in the common area, and the two of you cuddled and talked about things
but you cuddled in a just friends way, of course
except maybe you didn't?
at one point, you looked up at leo from where you were tucked under his arm
"you're my favorite person, leo. i don't know what i would do without you."
your admission had leo blushing hard
"i... you're my favorite person too, y/n. let's be friends forever,"
he meant it as somewhat of a joke, but the words stung the both of you a little bit
you bit your lip and looked down as he said that, the words registering in your head
maybe it was because you had a bad feeling
or maybe it was because you just had too much of pretending you didn't have overwhelming feelings for this boy
because the next thing you did shocked the both of you
"but... i don't want to be friends forever,"
leo's heart sank, thinking this was you telling him you knew about his feelings and that you were uncomfortable around him
he was wrong, thankfully
"i don't think i can be... just friends, leo..."
you paused because you weren't sure what to say, so you decided that you were just going to show leo what he meant
gods know that if you had waited a second longer, he would've exploded with curiosity and anticipation
so you sat up, looked into his eyes with a sense of determination, took a deep breath, and then leaned in for a kiss
the kiss started out a little awkwardly
neither of you had really kissed anyone before, not that it. was unpleasant, just a little... clumsy
you fumbled around the kiss for a few seconds before you both pulled apart, chuckling slightly to yourselves
"i really like you, leo"
you look into his eyes again, all vulnerability bared for him
leo reaches for your hand, and grasps it tightly, and you lace your fingers together
"i think i really like you more, y/n."
you kiss again, but you're more sure of yourselves this time, pressing your lips together, smiling into the kiss as well because you just can't help yourselves
after that, everything changefd
it didn't really have much time to change because of the field trip though, and the next thing you know you find out coach hedge is a satyr (something you briefly read about when taking a greek mythology class in middle school), and you're thrown into this camp for people called half-bloods, the children of greek gods and goddesses
okay....
then you find out that you're one of these half-bloods, the child of (g/p)
life at camp half-blood was definitely... different
things were a lot more stressful for the four of you than ever
but things could be worse, because at least you had leo with you
the two of you spent a lot more time together during your stay at camp half-blood
a few more kisses were exchanged
but if piper asks nothing happened
the two of you spent a lot of time cuddled up together under one blanket in front of the campfire
you couldn't help but notice how pretty leo looked with his face bathed in firelight
you loved to explore the woods together and find new things, gaining your bearings in your new surroundings
basically, despite all the crazy changes that had just occurred in your life, this was the happiest you think you've ever been
and then, of course, because nothing could ever just chill for five seconds, leo was then chosen to go on a very dangerous quest to save the world or whatever
(you didn't really pay attention to the meeting)
so then you have to say goodbye to the best friend you've ever known, the only person you've ever trusted with your heart, with full knowledge that there was a chance he wouldn't come back
just thinking about it made your heart seize in your chest
the night before they were supposed to leave, you spent the night in bunker 9 with leo, refusing to let him go
nobody said anything about it, everyone having full knowledge of your relationship, and how difficult it was on you knowing the implications of what could happen
of course, things were difficult for leo as well, knowing that he could be walking into his death
so when everybody noticed that neither of you had shown up to your respective cabins, everybody figured where the two of you were, and figured it would be okay to look the other way for just one night
the next day, when it was time to say goodbye for real this time, you thought it was maybe the hardest thing you had ever had to do
there were tears in your eyes, and when you hugged leo, you practically cut off his airflow with how hard your arms squeezed around him
annabeth stood by you as leo and piper and jason left, knowing what it felt like to have to watch the person you loved leave, and knowing that maybe he wasn't going to come back
annabeth knew exactly what that felt like
and right as leo disappeared from view, you realized that you loved him... and you never told him
so i'm not sure if this is exactly what you were looking for, and also some of this might be incorrect because i haven't read the books in a hot minute, but i like this! i kind of left it open for a part 2 if anyone wants that? anyways, thanks so much for reading, and have a great day!

“forever he told me” like a fucking liar. “forever” he told me like he meant it. “forever” he told me like he wasn’t in love with someone else.
my name is leo valdez and i’m in love with a dead man.
his name was jason grace, and he was horrible. horrible in the way that he was perfect in every way. horrible in the way he made my bones ache in how much i needed him to breathe. he was my oxygen, and without him, nothing works the way it’s supposed to.
what am i supposed to do? get over him? no. trust me, i’ve tried. it didn’t fucking work.

solangelo’s wedding
requested by @biggestqiblifan
The living room of the Big House at Camp Half-Blood was adorned with twinkling fairy lights, their warm glow casting a soft ambiance over the gathered friends and family.
The air buzzed with excitement, laughter, and the faint scent of lavender and rosemary wafting from the kitchen where Piper was finishing up the last of the wedding preparations. It was a day of celebration, a day Nico never thought Will would love him ling enough to reach. “Hey, Sunshine,” Nico called out, leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed. His black hair fell into his eyes, but he didn't bother to brush it aside. He watched Will, who was busy arranging flower bouquets on the table, his golden hair catching the light like a halo. Will turned, a smile breaking across his face.
“You keep calling me that, but I’m starting to think you’re the one who’s glowing.” He winked, teasingly. Nico rolled his eyes, but the corners of his mouth betrayed him.
“Yeah, right. More like I’m sweating. This suit is way too tight.” He tugged at the fabric, trying to adjust it without ruining the intricate stitching.
“Suit or no suit, you look perfect,” Will replied, stepping closer. “You’re always perfect.” He reached out, brushing his fingers against Nico’s arm, sending warmth through him. Nico felt that familiar flutter in his stomach. “I’m not perfect” Nico muttered, glancing down, suddenly self-conscious. “Your scars do not make you any less perfect Neeks,” Will said earnestly, somehow always knowing what to say “You’re beautiful, Nico. Don’t ever doubt that.” Nico’s heart raced at the sincerity in Will’s voice. “Okay, okay, don’t make me blush, or I’ll ruin my makeup.”
“Too late!” Leo hollered from across the room, his wild hair bouncing as he entered with Jason, who was rolling his eyes at Leo’s antics. “You’re turning as red as a tomato, di Angelo! Maybe I should get you a mirror.”
“Shut up, Valdez,” Nico shot back, though there was no malice in his tone. “What are you doing here, anyway? Aren’t you supposed to be with your—”
“Before you finish that sentence, I’m not here to decorate. I’m here to make sure you don’t bail,” Leo interrupted, his expression suddenly serious. “You’re not going anywhere. You’re marrying Will, and that’s final.”
“Yeah, I get it,” Nico said, grinning. “I’m not going anywhere. This is—this is it.” “Damn right it is!” Jason chimed in, grinning from ear to ear. “I can’t believe you two are finally tying the knot. It’s about time!”
“Speak for yourself, Grace,” Nico replied, crossing his arms. “You and Leo have been together, what, forever? You guys should be the first to get hitched.” “Not today! They’re cowards” Piper called from the kitchen, peeking her head out with a smirk. “I’m just here to support my favorite couple. And to make sure Leo doesn’t burn the place down.” “Hey!” Leo protested, throwing a hand over his heart. “I would never! I’m a professional.”
“Professional at what? Chaos?” Hazel chimed in, entering the room with Frank by her side. She shot Leo a playful glare before turning to Nico. “You look so handsome, Nico! Like a prince!”
“Yeah, a prince with unimaginable trauma and homosexuality,” Nico said, his sarcasm slipping through, but he couldn’t help but smile at his sister’s enthusiasm. “You’re gay?? Thats crazy,” Will said, leaning in close, his breath warm against Nico’s ear.
“youre the worst person i’ve ever met solace”
“Okay, okay, save the mushy stuff for the altar!” Percy exclaimed as he walked in with Annabeth. “We need to focus on getting you two to the ceremony without any mishaps.”
“Like what? The ground opening up and swallowing us?” Nico joked, though a hint of anxiety crept into his voice.
“Don’t even joke about that,” Annabeth warned, her eyes narrowing. “I’ve seen it happen. Just… stay close to Will, okay? We don’t need any more adventures today.”
“Adventure? This whole day is an adventure!” Leo added, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “You guys are getting married! This is epic!”
“Epic, yes. Nerve-wracking? Definitely,” Nico said, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Don’t worry, Darlin’,” Will said, taking Nico’s hand and squeezing it gently. “We’re in this together. I’ll be right there beside you.”
“Yeah, right beside you,” Jason echoed, trying to reassure him. “And if anything goes wrong, we’ll handle it. Right, Frank?”
“Uh, yeah! Totally!” Frank replied, clearly unsure but wanting to be supportive.
“See? You’re not alone,” Percy said, clapping Nico on the back. “We’ve all got your back.”
“Alright, let’s get ready, lovebirds!” Leo shouted, waving his hands dramatically. “The wedding waits for no one!” As they began to disperse, Nico felt a surge of warmth swell in his chest. His friends were right; he wasn’t alone. He had Will, and they were about to get married! Married!!! A short while later, they stood in the main hall, surrounded by friends, family, and a few curious campers who had wandered in, eager to witness the union of two demigods. Chiron stood at the front, a comforting presence that settled Nico’s nerves. “Welcome, everyone,” Chiron began, his voice steady and warm. “We gather here today to celebrate the love between Nico Di Angelo and Will Solace.” Nico’s heart raced as he caught Will’s eye. Will was already grinning, his happiness radiating like sunlight.
“Look at him,” Nico whispered to Hazel, who stood beside him. “He’s so… happy.”
“Of course he is! He’s marrying you!” Hazel replied, her voice filled with confidence. “Yeah, but—”
“No ‘buts’! You’re perfect for each other,” she said, cutting him off. “Trust me. Just say ‘I do’ and let yourself be happy.” As Chiron spoke, Nico’s mind wandered. He thought of all the moments that had led to this day: the laughter, the tears, the struggles they’d faced together.
“Do you, Nico, take Will to be your lawfully wedded husband?” Chiron’s voice broke through the haze. Nico blinked, suddenly realizing it was his turn.
“Uh—yes! Yes, I do!” Will’s smile widened, and Nico couldn’t help but return it, his heart swelling with emotion.
“And do you, Will, take Nico to be your lawfully wedded husband?” Chiron continued, his gaze gentle.
“I do,” Will said, his voice strong and sure.
“Then by the powers vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and husband,” Chiron declared, a proud smile on his face. Cheers erupted from the gathered crowd, and Nico felt himself beaming. He stepped forward, closing the distance between him and Will.
“Now, you may kiss the groom!” Chiron added with a wink. Nico leaned in, and as their lips met, the world around them faded away. The cheers, the laughter, the light—all of it melted into the background. In that moment, it was just them, their love sealing a promise that had been years in the making. When they finally pulled apart, the room erupted into applause.
“You did it!” Percy shouted, clapping Nico on the back.
“See? No ground opening up to swallow you whole!” Annabeth added, her eyes sparkling with joy.
“Yeah, that’s because I was the one who was supposed to break it!” Leo joked, making the group laugh. Nico felt lighter than air, surrounded by friends and family who had watched them grow, who had supported them through thick and thin.
“Thank you all for being here,” he said, his voice shaky with emotion. “This means everything to us.”
“Darn tootin’ it does!” Will exclaimed, laughing at nico’s eyeroll in response to his theatrical southern phrases and throwing an arm around Nico’s shoulders. “We love you guys!” The celebration continued with food and laughter filling the living room. Nico found himself caught in a whirlwind of hugs and congratulations. “Hey, do you remember the first time we met?” Nico heard Jason ask, and he turned to see the two of them deep in conversation. “Yeah, you thought I was a ghost!” Nico laughed, shaking his head.
“Because you were so pale!” Jason countered, grinning.
“Okay, okay! Enough reminiscing!” Leo interrupted, striking a dramatic pose. “Let’s dance! Who’s with me?” Nico laughed, the sound bubbling up from his chest. “If i must” (he was immediately informed that yes, he must)
As the music began to play, Nico took Will’s hand and led him to the makeshift dance floor. The rhythm pulsed through them, and they moved together, lost in each other’s eyes. “See? This is what I’ve been talking about,” Will said, spinning Nico around. “This is our day!”
“It’s perfect,” Nico agreed, breathless. And as they danced, surrounded by their friends, laughter, and love, Nico knew this was just the beginning. They had faced darkness together, but today, they stepped into the light, hand in hand, ready to face whatever came next.
“Here’s to forever, Tesoro,” Nico said, leaning in to whisper, his heart full. “Forever, Darlin’,” Will replied, his voice soft, yet unwavering. And in that moment, with the world around them fading into a blur, they knew that it was only ever going to be them against the world

✮⋆˙ y/n’s pov
“i’m way too nervous, my hands are shaking and what if I drop the ring? he’ll think i’m stupid! and he’ll leave me right there!”
“n/n? respectfully? shut up,” annabeth sighed.
“this is leo we’re talking about, man, and if there’s one thing I know for sure about him, other than the fact that he loves marshmallows, it’s that he’s whipped as fuck for you,” will’s voice rang out, walking into my cabin.
“trust!” piper’s voice came out of my closet, where she was looking for something decent for me to wear.
“okay… but, now I don’t have anything to wear. that’s another problem,” I whined.
“you could walk out there, and get married in your camp clothes, and it’d have the same effect on him either way,” piper rolled her eyes. “his mouth would like, hang open, and he’d make heart eyes at you—”
“shut up,” I grumbled. “what am I going to wear, pipes?”
“don’t you worry, darling, I got you,” she said, and winked at me, and handed me a denim-leather jacket.
✮⋆˙ leo’s pov
“what if I trip and fall in front of her? will she leave me—who am I kidding, of course she’ll leave me!—”
“she loves you, stop crying about it,” jason said, rolling his eyes.
nico walked in with a red tie and black leather jacket in tow, and told me it was one of the other kids who lent it to him (clearly not).
“oh. thanks,” I smiled.
“yeah, sure. uh, listen, valdez,” nico started. I narrowed my eyes at him. “if you ever hurt her, or make her cry, or anything, I will know. and I will come for your blood. and your organs, because the market is amazing for livers these days—”
“same here,” percy said. “if I see my little sister sad because of you? you’re done for, fire boy.”
they walked over to me, throwing their arms around my shoulder. “got it?”
“obviously,” I rolled my eyes. “and if she’s ever sad because of me, I think i’d kill myself.”
✮⋆˙ 3rd person pov
percy walked with his hand in y/n’s. she walked down the aisle in a black crop top below her unbuttoned white shirt, and a denim-leather jacket strung on top. in that moment, leo could only comprehend how much she looked like herself.
she was fidgeting nervously with her belt while walking towards him.
she looked up, shocked, to see him almost matching with her: white shirt, red tie, black leather jacket, and even the playboy grin.
I like shiny things, but i’d marry you with paper rings…
uh huh, that’s right…
watching him smile at her melted away her anxiety.
he wouldn’t leave her, of course not. they were in this together, forever.
a lopsided grin creeped up her face, setting his heart on fire.
she would always love him, he realised. never would she even think of leaving him.
darling, you’re the one I want, and…
✮⋆˙ y/n’s pov
percy let go of my hand so I could walk further towards leo, leaving me a thumbs-up.
“hey handsome,” I whispered, stopping in front of leo.
“hey beautiful,” he whispered back, still smiling at me.
“even after so many years, you know how to get my brain to stop functioning, it’s unfair,” I groaned, as he chuckled. his hand slipped into mine, lacing our fingers together. his thumb stroked the back of my hand as we turned to chiron, who was officiating our wedding.
he asks all our friends—dressed in shades of either blue or orange—to take their seats. we watched the youngest demigods, who were less than ten years old, walk around the chairs, giving out flowers to everyone.
“dearly beloved,” chiron reads out of his pocket notebook. “we are gathered here today to witness my two little kids join together in holy matrimony.”
everyone laughed and then quieted down.
“you can do your speeches or vows,” he prompted.
I exhaled and started first. “mia cara, thank you. I can’t believe today’s, well, finally here. I remember the, um, first day we met. we were both caught planting something for a prank in coach hedge’s bag, and spent a day in detention together,” I laughed and went on. “well, that was pretty much the day I fell in love with you. i’m so happy I have a boyfriend—well, almost-husband—and a best friend, both in the same person. so, I guess what I want to say is… I love you, leo.”
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this…
uh huh, that’s right…
his eyes were glossing over, and a tear escaped down his cheek. I wiped it away, and smiled at him.
“oh my god, that was so sappy,” he rolled his eyes at me.
I hit him in his shoulder, and he laughed. “anyway, I think I never told you this, but I knew you before that day.”
I gasped a little bit and my eyes widened.
“it was the day you transferred to that wilderness school, probably around a month before we met. you were wearing the same jacket you’re wearing today, and your hair was in tiny braids, and oh my god, I remember thinking, ‘if I don’t talk to that girl soon, i’ll never forgive myself’ but I waited a whole month because I was too nervous.”
I laughed, “you were nervous for a month?”
“shut up bro,” he groaned. “you were just so beautiful and I thought you looked smart, which, I mean, you are. but then, I found out you were planning some prank for a bet, and I figured that was my chance.”
darling, you're the one I want…
“who knew that the first pranks we pulled would bring us to get married, huh?” I chuckled.
“I knew,” he said, “that was obviously why I did it. anyway, I wanna end this speech or whatever by saying what I thought of you the first day we met: I love you, y/n, and you’re stuck with me for life!”
“I better hope so, you’re not allowed to leave me ever, anyway,” I rolled my eyes.
chiron laughed at us, and called the ringbearers. “it’s time for you to exchange your rings.”
an eight-year old apollo camper and his twin brother walked up to us with matching boxes. each one gave a box to one of us.
we opened the boxes, got the rings out and held them.
leo pulled our interlocked hands up and let go, to slip his ring on my finger. I grinned at him, and placed mine on his finger as well. he smiled when he realised they were the first rings we had bought together after we snuck out of camp for the first time.
“with the power vested in me,” chiron started. “I now pronounce you man and wife. you may kiss the bri—”
before chiron could even finish, leo’s hands were on my waist, bringing me closer, our mouths colliding.
in paper rings, in picture frames, in dirty dreams…
oh, you’re the one I want…
our glasses hit each others’ twice, but neither of us cared. his hands were squeezing my waist, as if it were the end of the world if he let go. my hands wrapped around his neck, and I pulled him in closer than humanly possible.
his kisses were rarely soft and sweet, so today wasn’t a surprise.
tongues colliding, my hands in his hair, and grinning against each others’ lips.
“till death do them part!” a voice rang out from the crowd, everyone else laughing.
“even death won’t do us part, mi vida,” he pulled back, smiling and whispered.

photographer jason grace who has a habit of taking pictures of leo whenever he doesn’t expect it. leo has never seen the photos, jason pretends to have deleted them but in reality, he’s developed the photos and he has them tucked away into an album among many. he’s been taking photos of leo since he was able to handle a camera.
jason thinks that of everything he's captured, of every sunset and sunrise, every field and every snowstorm, every strike of lightning and glass covered in rain, each scene with his friends hanging out; leo valdez is the best muse anyone could ever ask for

Pt. 1
"Hey Leo?" Jason started and Leo looked away from his food he was stabbing multiple times. "Yeah?"
"Whens your birthday?" It's a normal question. A question anyone who didn't grow up running around cared about.
"Yeah. I think you're the only persons birthday we haven't celebrated." Piper added and Leo answered honestly, going back to eating his eggs.
"Oh. I don't know." Saying they were speechless was an understatement.
"You don't... know?" Percy asked as if it's the most unbelievable thing in the world and Leo stopped eating to look at them with a raised a brow.
"Yeah? I don't know, as in, I don't remember."
"Who doesn't remember their birthday?" Annabeth asked and Leo shrugged.
"Lots of people."
"You know lots of people who don't remember their birthday?" She pushed.
"Not personally but yeah. Met lots of them. Orphanages don't really care for that kind of stuff. So many kids we'd have a party every other week."
"What about foster homes? They had to have done something right?" Frank wondered out of pure curiosity.
"What is this? An intervention? Look, it doesn't matter. I forgot, I forgot, not a big deal."
"Dude, of course it is. That's the day you were born!" Percy exclaimed but Leo just shrugged.
"So?" Everything froze. It was such a simple word but held so much meaning. Oh...
When he realized what he said he just got up and left, not wanting to be questioned anymore.
"I'll be back." Nico said Shadow Traveling away.
------
"Oh, hello. What can I help you with?"
"Hi so I'm one of your sons friends and I was wondering when his birthday is?"
"You know my son?"
"Yes?"
"Is-is he okay? Is he safe?"
"Yes, yes, he's safe. He's at Camp."
"Camp?! But what about outside of it?! Does he have somewhere to stay when he gets out?! I..." He admired how much she loved him. Her voice was like applesauce, a little scratchy but mostly smooth and calming.
"Woah hey. It's okay. He's safe. Camp is a year-round place. He has a plan."
"He does?"
"Yes." He assured and she nodded wiping her tears.
"Lo siento, I've just been so worried."
"I completely understand ma'am. But we do only have ten minutes."
"Alright. Now what was the question?"
"When his birthday is."
"It's July, 7th. But why couldn't you ask him?" He told her what happened and she fell to her knees.
"Oh cariño, lo siento mucho. Debería haber estado allí."
"Ms. Valdez, you have nothing to be sorry for. You couldn't help it, people die."
"Oh, lo sé, lo sé. I just... was he at least safe? After I died?"
"Wish I could say yes." He said sadly and she sobbed. He held her.
"But he's safe now. We're taking care of him. I promise." He couldn't imagine being in her shoes. Being dead, hearing that your son is alive after all these years and finding out he hasn't been safe since, in any means.
"And he is such a wonderful guy. He's so funny, and kind, and selfless, and smart." She pulled away to wipe her tears.
"He was always the charmer." She said with a knowing smirk and he blushed.
"You know?"
"The whole underworld knows about you liking boys. I never thought it'd be with my son but if he's your type..." She said wiggling her eyebrows.
"Oh! No, we're not a thing. I just... really like him. Ugh..." He said covering his face and she laughed. Loud and unpredictable. Just like Leo.
"Well. I think you should tell him." She suggested and he shrugged. "Maybe one day."
"Gracias. I haven't felt this relaxed in forever. I should really take Emily up for that spa one day." She said and Nico smiled.
"Aye, I apologize. You should probably get back."
"Um... yeah..."
"Before you do, could you tell him something?"
"Yes, of course."
"Tell him it's not his fault. And I love him. More than he could ever know." Nico nodded with a small smile.
"Of course." Then she did something unexpected. She kissed his forehead.
"You're an angel." She disappeared and he stood there in stunned silence before smiling again. Now to talk to Leo.

you’d heard of leo, obviously; you watched as he crashed into the lake and put a spectacular show of trying to get hephaestus’s sign off the top of his head
what an ABSOLUTE FOOL he looked like, flailing around
you wanted him already (who wouldn’t?)
so obviously you came up with a plan...
—to steal his heart!
a very well-thought out plan, might you add, it had a total of five steps
first, you would make eye contact with him at least once while nyssa was giving him a tour of the camp. easy, right?
step 2, wait for your siblings to befriend him
you say wait, because you can just tell that travis and connor will sneak up on him like hyenas and force him into their antics
(and from his ever mischievous grin, you think he wouldn't mind)
three, be in the same area most, if not every time they converse, cause then he'd start associating them with you
and then he'd be like "omg who is that fine babe"
isn't that how it works?
you think you saw that in a psychology book or something (or maybe you just made it up??)
then, once that happens, you'll force connor to put in a good word for you (or bribe him, whichever works better)
finally (for now) step five; this was the most crucial part

play against him at the weekly game night
you had to show off your amazing game skills (that did not involve stealing, like, what???)
once you win, that'll impress him enough to make him fall in love, right?
it was totally foolproof
last week it was the aphrodite cabin's turn to pick, so this time it's cabin 11's turn. and you knew which game you just had to play.
"guys," you said seriously, laying on your bunk with your hands folded under your chin. "we need to play monopoly tomorrow night."
you were met with groans of "why?" and "that's gonna take forever!"
rightly so, but still!
"shut up, most of you guys don't even have seniority!" you turned to travis and connor, the only two siblings able to boss you around.
"please! it's part of my ingenious plan okay!?" you put your hands together, bowing your head. "i'll do whatever dare you guys want!"
oh you were serious serious. no one in their right head would agree to that. but, they do say love makes you crazy.
gasps echo through the cabin.
"whatever dare, huh?" travis says with a smirk that would make you regret saying that, except for the fact that you were head over heels for leo.
you sucked in a breath and resigned to your fate. "yeah."
"alright then, monopoly it is."
game night started right after dinner, because there was no way you guys could finish monopoly before midnight if you didn't. and even then, it was still a stretch. luckily, chiron was lenient on campers following curfew every friday, knowing how rowdy game nights could get.
though it wasn't summer, there were still a lot of campers, way too much for one board game. so, you were split into groups of eight. and if you and leo were put in the same group? must be a coincidence. (send help, you were practically selling your soul to the stolls)
"y/n, you are not allowed to be the banker." percy declared with a pointed look.
you gaped. why did he have to make your plan harder!? "what!? why not?"
"because we know you're going to steal the money," annabeth sighed, neatly organizing the colored bills.
"wow, okay then." you pouted, though you knew it was true. putting the money on display like that was just tempting you even more.
"i can be the banker," leo piped up from beside you.
frank shot him a skeptical look. "are you sure you're not gonna be stealling?"
"i would never!" leo held up his hands in defense. "please annabeth? i like being banker!"
she placed the 500s in the last slot, relenting. "alright, here." she pushed the tray to his side, which leo took eagerly and passed out the money.
the game started, and you took your lucky hat as usual, sending a silent prayer to tyche for some extra luck.
it began easy enough; you used up some money for property, auctioned the ones you didn't want. as the game got more and more heated (or as heated as a game of monopoly could get), you used the distraction to slip yourself a couple of 100s. they practically threw themselves into your hands! who could blame you?
a full set of orange, with houses all on them. you had a few other property cards here and there, but not enough for another set.
"i don't have enough money.." hazel looked at her measly pile of 10s, 50s, and a single 100 bill. "auction?"
"four hundred." leo bid almost immediately.
"four hundred!?" your jaw dropped. why was he starting so high? you looked down at your pile. your hard-earned (stolen) money wasn't going to last if you bet any more.
"four hundred and one..?"
"four hundred and five!" annabeth bid before leo could.
"five hundred."
"fuck!" you grumbled. defeat was not something you liked tasting.
you swear, you must've fallen asleep while playing. because the next time you looked over at leo, (okay, maybe you lost sight of the goal), he was eating up the rest of the board. you could've sworn he only had park place and the brown cards! you didn't have a backup plan for this!
you watched him goad percy into giving him boardwalk, saying that the shade of blue clashed with his 'vibe.' "i'll trade you all three light blue cards for boardwalk. deal?"
"don't do it percy," annabeth warned, already seeing the gears turning in her boyfriend's head.
"deal." percy swapped with leo, dapping him up as they traded. "pleasure doing business with you."
you looked back to the board. all of the property owned by him was decked with houses, all full sets! was that even mathematically possible? not that you'd know about it.
frank was next to go bankrupt, hazel quitting a half hour ago. she slumped on his shoulder, forcing herself to stay awake so she didn't miss out.
percy threw his single dollar bill on the floor, claiming that it "wasn't fair!" and that he'd give his property to annabeth. which was not a lot, considering she had sweet-talked him into giving her most of it already.
jason was next, but only because he was already half asleep. probably because he was usually in bed by 8:30.
you were still in the game out of sheer will. maybe you didn't have as much brains as annabeth or leo, but you still had some! that, and the fact that you would never live this down if you lost.
"alright, i give in." annabeth put her property cards down with not as much disappointment as you'd expect. you could see a glimmer in her eyes that would most definitely not be there, seeing as how much she hated losing.
she curled up next to percy and watched the two of you play.
now it was just you and leo. did your love for him outweigh your love for winning? you weren't quite sure anymore.
"hah! you landed on my property, so pay up!" you grinned maniacally. (it wasn't that deep tbh)
leo groaned and begrudgingly handed you the rent.
"that's my property!" leo pointed out the next turn.
you looked to the bank, but leo's eyes were set on you. guess you couldn't steal your way out of this one. "are you serious? what if i'm a single mom who works two jobs, who loves my kids and never stops-"
"just say you don't have the money."
"fine!"
four hours of non-stop monopoly. you think you could pass out right then and there, except for the fact that you had to save face in front of your massive crush. your group of eight said sleepy goodbyes to each other, all heading to their respective cabins. leo lingered beside you, or maybe you lingered beside him.
"that the first time you lost?" he broke the silence, hands shoved in his pockets as he turned to face you.
"yeah.." you grumbled. you were usually a pro at monopoly. "how'd you even win?"
"oh, y'know." leo winked. "maybe i stole a few bills here and there."
"i knew it!" you poked him in the side.
"hey!" he swatted your hand away, laughing. "you can't be talking! did you think i couldn't see you stealing?"
"uh, no?" you were being very sneaky about it! most people never even knew when you'd steal something!
"well, i did." he smiled triumphantly.
you crossed your arms. "you had to have been looking real hard if you noticed."
leo matched your pose, dimples showing as he flashed his teeth. "maybe i was."
oh.
"you were? wait i was just-" was he flirting with you? this counted as flirting, right?
he cut you off with a hand in the air. "it's safe to say that you, dear y/n, have officially, stolen my heart." he winked cheekily.
"okay that was kinda cringy-"
"yeah, i know-"
plan failed successfully?

‧₊˚໒꒱ will you be my hoco date...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
~ characters : jason grace x leo valdez , piper mclean x reyna avila ramirez arellano
~ synopsis : the proposal - part one !
~ tw(s) : queer people , maybe a little cursing
Tumblr media
"agh, piper! you are not being helpful at all!" jason cried. he was pacing around the zeus cabin, piper sprawled out on his bed as she tossed an apple into the air.
"it's not my fault you haven't decided how to ask leo to homecoming! you've had this whole week. why just now?" she said, sitting up and taking a bite out of the fruit. jason sighed and turned to face her.
"i just want it to be perfect." he admitted, flushing deeply as he did. "we're demigods. we never know when we're gonna get to go to hoco again, hell are we even gonna be alive to go? i want this to be the most perfect first homecoming, one that will last forever even if we don't." he sighed. piper nodded along, grimacing.
"i know, jase," she stood up and walked over to him, rubbing his arm reassuringly. "i know. but he's leo, your boyfriend! you both love each other so much, i don't think you could possibly mess this up." she said and jason smiled.
"yeah, you're right." piper went back to sit on the bed, grinning with apple juice stained lips.
"i know i am, when am i not?" she teased. jason laughed, and sent a gust of wind to knock her over, to which she fell with chuckle.
"okay, well, what was your proposal to reyna?" he asked, pondering ideas for his poster. piper snorted.
"so, it's actually really dumb," she laughed, pulling out her phone (one leo had made specifically for demigods) and searched for the picture. jason walked over to get a look.
she held up her phone, with a photo of a grinning piper and an eyerolling reyna. the poster piper was holding said "boys suck, will you be my chick at hoco?" with chickens and a chicken plushie.
"i thought it was hilarious, since we're lesbians." jason snorted once he finished reading the poster, fistbumping piper.
"you out did yourself, she looks like she really likes it." he smirked and piper let out another laugh.
"yup, she totally did."
with that, a knock on the cabin door was heard. piper raised an eyebrow and jason looked at the door. another impatient knock was sound. jason sighed and walked over. what he saw he did not expect.
it was leo, wearing the outfit orpheus wears in hadestown and had red marigolds all over the stairs. he had one in his mouth and held up a poster. he was as red as the flowers. the poster read "be my lady of the underground, and wait for me, as we live it up, on our way down, ...to hoco?
"jason juno grace," he started, jason feeling his cheeks flush as well. piper came with her phone, smirking as she took a video. "when we first met, you didn't know who i was. but i knew who you were, and i know i loved you. we've both died, and gone to the ends of the world for each other. will you be the eurydice to my orpheus?" he said, nervously awaiting an answer from jason.
the air was still, so thick you could throw a brick at it and it'd bounce off. jason gulped and leo took shallow breaths.
"gods, yes, of course leo!" he yelled, running down the stairs into leo's open arms. he gave him the biggest bear hug he could muster, leo squealing as he did. they toppled over, laying and laughing in the pile of red flowers.
"good, eurydice, or else this would be really embarrassing," leo teased, kissing jason's nose. piper kept taking pics, and smirked.
"i'll send these to you leo," she yelled at them, and leo gave her a thumbs up. jason blinked.
"wait, was piper just a trojan horse?" he asked and leo laughed.
"yeah, just a distraction so i could come and prepare." he blushed, admittedly. jason just laughed with him, pulling him impossibly closer.
"gods, i love you, orpheus," he sighed into leo's neck. leo nodded.
"you too, eurydice."
Tumblr media
~ an: sorry it's so short, but i'm so glad i did it ! i wrote it in like 10 minutes, no editing, only my brain. if theres any mistakes, feel free to let me know ! i thought it'd be super cute if they did a greek tragedy themed proposal, and who's story is better than orpheus and eurydice?
i hope you guys liked this, i will be making a part 2 of the actual dance :DD also sorry its messy :p also yes, the proposal is from the musical, but i think it fits well. maybe leo and/or jason and/or piper are theater fanatics :p
