N HEADCANONS

He was emo from the age of 14 until just before he turned 18, he was somewhat popular on MySpace.

Also during that time he dyed his hair red + hes naturally reddish brunette (hc from mutual btw but I REALLY LOVE THAT HC) When he tried to bleach it before entering college he screwed it up and its light weird brown

there was a time when he wore brackets during his childhood

hes a relative of Mitsuru, possibly cousins JUST HEAR ME OUT

post-tc22 but pre-dds he sometimes treated Sheffield like a younger brother (sheffield hates it)

he looks more like his father physically speaking, but makes an attempt to look more like his mother cuz he has no good relationship w his dad :1

uhh hes touch starved :]

he has tried from time to time to resume his boxing practice (he in tc22 practice boxing n has abs omg)

he is currently chubby

is allergic to dog hair but still has always wanted one, he has a special interest in Saint Bernards

back to the hc emo teenager, he looked intimidating but was actually kind of shy

he had 2 romantic relationships, one in high school with a classmate and another during his university years with a temporary roommate, the latter being with a trans woman. O'Brien realized in that instant that he really didn't care about people's sex or gender identity

yeah, my hc is hes pansexual <:] actually those 2 relationships didnt last that long, maybe some months??? one bc of inexperience and the other for his focus in da studies

is also a cat lover and has adopted 7 stray cats

if i had to give him a hobby, it would be gardening, he really loves plants and is a nerd at it aside from medicine

I READ O'BRIEN AND YOU GOT MY ATTENTION RIGHT AWAY

YES, U'RE RIGHT, HE NEEDED MORE SCREEN TIME IN DDS2, and even though hes the protagonist of That's Catch 22 (prequel novel to DDSAT, has nothing to do with QDS btw), he really needed more in DDS2.

I really wish Heat O'Brien had a slightly larger role in DDS2. Of course it's kind part of his whole deal that he accepts that he is dead and is "awaiting the end", but honestly i find him really sympathetic even though he has so little screentime

I think that's because I kind of see him as a healthier Heat, who's not as obsessed with Sera, or who at least was able to move past his obsession in death. I also really like the contrast between his role as a doctor and his other self's lack of self-control and impulsivity.

I just wish non-Gale or Serph characters had slightly more conclusive storylines and a liiiiiiiiittle bit more screentime.
