Just some thoughts I got, but I was rewatching rise the other day, as one does, and as I was watching paper origami I started thinking.

What was Leo's deal on that episode?

At first I thought, oh yeah, Leo's just being his usual lazy self and trying to do the less work with this whole "being a heroe" thingy, so he's using his expert use of words to convince his brothers of going with the less difficult crime to get over with that idea, without sounding like he just doesn't want to do the work, right? That's what I thought the episode was going for when portraying Leo, like "look, this guy's a dumbass and just using his wits to avoid doing any work" LIKE LEO WOULD, that sounds very Leo.

But then he kinda seems eager (?) about actually doing the mission?? You know? He convinces everyone of not giving up and stuff and I was just like ????

So if the point of Leo in this episode is not to portray him as an obnoxious lazy idiot (affectionate) then... what's the point?

I know I must be corn-platting and it could be just the writers needing a reason to do this SPECIFIC story line but they could've also use Raph for that? IDK, the answer just haven't hit my brain yet and I need someone to punch it inside of my brain.

I don't think people talk about these two enough. Like they have such a fun dynamic and hold actual respect for one and other. Leo clearly seems to care and love April a lot and so does April. Their duo dynamic in my opinion is genuinely amazing. Also don't kill me but- I like them more than April + Donnie...

It’s only a month later but I finally did my human Leo design- it’s funny, I was looking at my og drawing to see how I drew is hair, and I realized that I had somehow given him VERY SIMILAR hair to Casey JR which is funny because I had created those before I had even saw Casey. I just thought “Leo’s the kind of shithead to try and have a mullet, right?” And I’m just bad at drawing mullets

Notes: I couldn’t decide if I thought Leo straightens his hair. I headcannon all of them to be blasian but I feel like I haven’t visually achieved that? Idk man. Leo’s stripes imo would most likely translate to be birthmarks rather than vitiligo, though I love those designs. I felt like Leo would look the most like Splinter

I was watching Rise animatics to pass the time and ran across the animatic for probably my favorite scene in the whole show? So I absolutely had to watch it. And then my jaw dropped

What has always always always stood out to me is that Raph has no markings. That’s only increased when the turtles use their power. Mikey, Donnie, and Leo all have markings that glow. Even April’s bat glows

In the animatic for the episode Anatawa Hitorijanai I found this

When the turtles unlock their power, their markings grow to cover their bodies more than they already did

Donnie’s markings mostly just expand upon what he already gas

Leo gets another pair of stripes on his legs, not much actually changed there

Mikey’s shoulder markings turn into bullseyes, same with his legs. I’m not sure if the things on his forearms are extensions of his normal wrist wraps (I think that’s what they are. The placement of them is exactly the same)

And I was thinking about how Raph not having markings is even more out of place

Only Leo can see him when he first pops up. Always at the corners of his vision. Every time he turns his head, all he sees is an empty space, with nothing in sight. Nothing but the cold and lonely embrace of the Dojo.

He was too pushy.

His brothers were worried for him. He's spending more time than usual in the dojo. His body has become much more sluggish, much more clumsy. His eyes are now have bags; he's skipping his meals, his favorite meals; he's avoiding his brothers... they needed to talk to him.

He's too distant.

It wasn't until Raph had enough and broke into the Dojo to drag him out for dinner that they finally got him to rest from whatever he was doing. It seemed to hit him as he picked up Murakami's patented pizza gyoza. Seeing the delicious treat once again, remembering when they first ventured up, that tears started to fall.

He was too scared.

April came over the next day.

She had finished enough of her studies to come down to the sewers, Donnie's rants and worries on the phone rubbing off on her enough to visit much earlier than before. Leo was acting off. He was too silent.

But she couldn't focus on Leo.

Because there was a small turtle on his shoulder.

He was too late.

My own TMNT fan iteration! I had lots of fun designing these guys and i'll admit one big inspo was @kaysdenofchaos Teenage Meddling Mutant Turtles! (i absolutely adore your boys i would kill and die for them,,)

I've tried different styles and dynamics, but so far this is my absolute favorite!

Alright, now let's properly introduce the Eden!turtles

Mikey:

The eldest at 19 years old

Mutant Bog Turtle

Energetic, playful, creative, a bit reckless, literally runs on spite, the most emotionally open, supportive, has incredibly high pain-tolerance, and don't even get me STARTED on his ability to hold his drinks

He was once told he was a boring goodie-two-shoes so he spent the rest of the day swearing like a sailor to prove a point, that's how spiteful he is

Has the most creative insults ever

His brothers know his spitefulness so if he ever forgets about his own well being his brothers are like "Bet you can't sleep 8 good hours" and he'll go "BET" AND DO IT

Not the smartest but has good intentions

Can go on hours ranting about the most random shit

Eats anything and everything, his stomach is probably made out of titanium

A great cook! Though don't ask for any surprise dishes, he can get... creative

An insomniac, his mask hides the eyebags pretty well

Probably has some kind of PTSD, but he doesn't like talking about it

CANNOT stand the smell of metal, it grosses him out

Unironically watches Super Nanny religiously

Donnie:

A couple months younger than Mikey (so they joke they're twins)

Mikey doesn't aprove his younger twin being taller than him >:(

Sort of a jack-of-all-trades, mostly because he's very determined to learn as much as possible and learn how to do it properly

Which leads on him getting incredibly frustrated if he can't grasp something

Can't cook for shit

Very clean... Mostly. If he's tired (which is most of the time) he'll go into "to hell with it" mode and walk around the lair full of motor oil and mud (which then Raph has to clean up xD)

Tries to act cool and collected but he's just too big of a nerd

Terribly near-sighted

Raph:

16 years old

Mutant common snapping turtle

LOVES crazy make-ups and drag races but would never admit it

Surprisingly tidy and responsible

Plays the drums! He'd love to play electric guitar but having three fingers makes it incredibly hard

Great with animals

Homophobic gay (he'll accept himself soon enough xD)

Brash and reckless, anger issues (what a surprise), has severe RBF syndrome, even when he's calm and content he looks like he wants to murder someone

Near-sighted (doesn't wear glasses or contacts, which worsens his RBF)

Leo:

The family's baby at 8 years old

Mutant Musk Turtle

Very quiet but not shy at all, curious, calm, collected, obedient

Has no trouble talking but prefers signs

Loves fashion, knitting and sewing!

Doesn't like being alone or being in the dark

Is always eager to learn from his brothers, to the point where he can throw his well-being aside to try and impress them

Easily influenced, Raph loves playing pranks with him

sitting on my hands, silently screaming because I can't stop thinking about the connection between Casey and Raph and about Casey discovering said connection and So, to temper my hype, I decided to try and find as many Casey-Raph parallels and possible Raph-sourced influences on Casey: (forgive my formatting I am not used to Tumblr) 1. Casey being able to easily mimic Raph's growls, despite having no memory of learning (note: more obvious b/c it happened so recent. though, based on the fact that the other turtles were surprised by Casey making the noise... did Raph teach him?)

2. Honestly, just Casey's protective nature in general? Casey works so hard to protect his family (learning how to carry his much-bigger-uncles, caring to their needs when their vulnerable without question (i.e. tot Leo and Donnie), literally any time he's concerned with the turtle's health))

3. (Slightly-iffy BUT:) Being very conscious of his strength/fragility of others - - which might be a tad silly to say when all his family is bigger and stronger than him, and there is already another connection in that to Leo, but I cannot get Raph ever admitting "I'm the strong one, the big brother, so I need to protect and take care of you guys!!" so I'm calling it a mix of both Raph and Leo

4. The way they hold/cradel the tinies is very similar (note: there might be more reflections of this category but I honestly can't tell b/c most characters are bigger then Casey)

5. Another different, fun pose where they mirror each other pt.3 (except its very obvious)

6. Krang-ified Casey looks a lot like Krang-ified Raph; from the right eye (our left) to the tentacle right arm (our left) to the clawed left arm (our right) to the spikes. too many similarities for me not to at least point it out.

7. Casey and Raph being attacked by (proportionally the same size to them) Tiny Donnies and getting absolutely bodied.

8. This specific expression - - a possible common trait in just adoring cute things? (note: need more data to find this out, cus I did find a similar expression on Donnie, and we can't really see sparkles in Robot!Raph's eyes, but there was one from the show that's rather close.)

... did I over look into some traits that can maybe be explained other ways? probably. did I miss some parallels? definitely, this series is littered with them. but this AU has me by the throat and we are getting backstory on MY favorite of the turtles, so I need to cope somehow. (This is also my first ask. Idk if I'm did it right. I hope it goes through, and at least someone sees it.) (Message to anyone who sees this: HYDRATE OR DIEDRATE, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T HAVE A DONATELLO WHO WILL REVIVE YOU.)
