Can't escape Law of Surprise, Leo.

For those who don't know, the witcher world has this thing that's called " Law of Surprise" when "a man saved by another is expected to offer to his savior a boon whose nature is unknown to one or both parties". Usually it's children, and in The Witcher books the main character used this law.

So in this case, Leo could've turned to this law after fulfilling Cassandra's contract mostly unintentionally, hoping that maybe he'll get her fortune or something, but in the end he got her child. Leo didn't need it so he tried to just leave, but, ahah, the law of surprise practically bounds you to your "reward".

After a year or so he was passing by Cass's village that at the moment got attacked and burned down, and the only one that Leo managed to get out of there is Cass's child.

Summary: On their way to rescue Ciri, Geralt and his Hansa come by the ruin of an old castle. It is a bit eerie, but should they stay the night there anyway or rather move on toward the forest? You decide!

Excerpt from the chapter:

"Geralt, I've found your Yennefer." Regis has appeared next to them out of thin air. "She's downstairs."

"And Ciri?" Geralt asks, wiping his bloody blade on a satin curtain.

"Sorry, I haven't been able to locate her yet."

"Then we'll split. Milva, you come with Regis and me. Cahir, take Angoulême and Ola and comb through the upper stories. I know that Ciri is here somewhere. Get her to safety, if you find her."

Cahir nods. 'I will find you,' he promised Princess Cirilla on Thanedd. It is why he has followed the Witcher across half the continent. Now is the time to fulfil this promise.

It does not take long for them to find her. She bursts into the huge, round room with the marble statue of a veiled, unknown goddess in its centre that they have just entered through the other door. Her eyes grow wide at seeing him. The black knight of Cintra. She freezes with sudden panic.

"Angoulême, Ola, help me bar the door!" the knight shouts, and his friends jump into action. To her surprise, they rush past Ciri at the soldiers who have been following her through the corridors and are pouring into the room. The flaxen-haired girl jumps at one of them and cuts his throat with one strike of her curved sabre. The black knight cuts another one's head clear off with one blow of his great sword, then slits open a third attacker from top til toe. The man's guts spill onto the tiled floor. Seeing this, the remaining soldiers retreat into the corridor. Pushing his sword through the last one left inside the room, the dark-haired elf grabs the heavy oak door.

"Out of the way, Angoulême!" he yells, and the girl jumps backward just as one of the attackers tries to stab her with a pilum. The tip of the spear cuts into her calf and she drops to the ground. Cursing, she draws an axe from her belt and hurls it at the thug, hitting him right in the face. Then the elf and the black knight close the door shut with a loud bang. Angoulême rips off the sleeve of her shirt and fastens it around the bleeding injury, hissing with pain. The black knight looks at the girl, his face darkening with worry.

"How bad is it?" he asks. "Can you stand?"

"It's nothing, just a scratch," she says, taking his hand and getting to her feet. "You don't think they can get me that easy? I'm not finished kicking those bastards' arses yet!"

The black knight smiles at the girl, a nice smile. Then he turns toward Ciri ...

Ciri mumbled a curse. She didn’t have time for an infection. She needed to get moving before the Wild Hunt came and slaughtered everyone within ten miles.

Trying to move again resulted in more stabs of burning pain throughout her body, so Ciri gave up, going limp.

Shit, she really was going to have to rest. She was sore from nonstop running and fighting, and the little cut she’d brushed off as a flesh wound now felt like a dragon had taken a chunk out of her side.

…It was possible that she had waited too long to clean and stitch it. Leo was going to be insufferable.

“I fucking told you—” he was saying.

✨ NETFLIX GEEKED WEEK 2023: TUTTI I VIDEO E ANNUNCI LATO ANIMAZIONE

Novità su Arcane, The Witcher, Ultraman, Il Principe dei Draghi, Blood of Zeus e tanto altro!

Siamo nel pieno della Geeked Week 2023! Torna il grande evento annuale di Netflix, nella sua terza e abbastanza gustosa edizione, nonostante al momento siano latitanti novità su Moonrise, completamente sparita dai radar, e sulla da poco confermata terza stagione della serie live action di Alice in Borderland.

A proposito di live action, per quelli sto preparando un post a sé stante. Per ora godetevi trailer, clip e annunci lato animazione, che sono quelli che ci interessano di più alla fine, no?

🔶🔸ARCANE

Come vi ho già anticipato a parte - visto che non stavo nella pelle da quanto ho apprezzato la prima stagione, uscita ormai nel 2021- per la seconda, attesissima, stagione della serie che ha dato vita propria all'universo di League of Legends, dovremo aspettare novembre 2024.

🔶🔸MY DAEMON

Primo trailer per la serie originale scritta da Hirotaka “Otsuichi” Adachi (My Capricorn Friend, Summer Ghost, Exception), realizzata presso uno studio taiwanese di animazione in computer grafica.

La serie debutterà il 23 novembre e vi confermo che sarà anche doppiata in italiano.

Annunciato ormai un paio di anni fa, si fa finalmente vedere il nuovo film d'animazione con al centro lo storico supereroe di casa Tsuburaya, protagonista della celebre serie tokusatsu anni ‘60.

Ideata e diretta da Shannon Tindle (sceneggiatore di Kubo e la spada magica), con John Aoshima come coregista, la pellicola è tuttora in programma per un generico 2024.

🔶🔸 THE WITCHER: LE SIRENE DEGLI ABISSI

Cerchiamo di non pensare alla serie live action (povero Cavill, per fortuna ora è passato a Warhammer 40k) e di essere positivi: Geralt torna sul piccolo schermo, stavolta in versione animata, doppiato sempre dal mitico Doug Cockle.

Il film si basa sul racconto "Un Piccolo Sacrificio", che fa parte della raccolta La Spada del Destino e arriverà a fine 2024. Dita incrociate che non macellino pure questo D:

There are, in my opînion, two major figures of Evil in the book series of The Witcher: Vilgefortz and Bonhart. I could say Eredin too, but honestly he’s way less present in the books than he is in the third game; although admittedly a threat to Ciri, the first two are dangerous from day one. And although Vilgefortz is an evil, disgusting, power-thirsted bastard, Bonhart is downright terrifying through all of the pages he appears in. The whole arc of him hunting/capturing/abusing/enslaving Ciri is intense and he has this sordid ineluctable aura that makes him look unbeatable. The fact he also killed a few witchers only strengthened this impression, making Bonhart, in my opinion, the most terrible antagonist of the series.
