The Meeting on the Turret Stairs.

This painting is one of my favourite and I wanted to Aralas it, it’s about two star-crossed lovers, Hellelil and Hildebrand, in a moment of intimate arm-worship on a winding turret stair. The story comes from a medieval Danish poem about a young woman and her guard who fall in love, only for her father to order her seven brothers to kill him.

My interpretation is that after the hunt for Gollum, Aragorn stays in Mirkwood after years of friendship with Legolas only to fall in love but Thranduil forbids this so they have to hide their feelings

Legolas x Aragorn is like the softness of night, silver and navy blue, talking quietly between two people while others are around, hand kisses, walking with your arms linked, old regal paintings of two nobles staring forward with one having a hand on the others shoulder

Legolas x Gimli is like the warmth of sunset, gold and burnt orange, being the loudest in the room but not caring, forehead kisses, holding hands and playing with the other persons fingers, a quick pencil sketch you press into someone’s hand before running away

But Legolas x Gimli x Aragorn is like waking up right before the sun rises to watch it, blue red and green, speaking as though you are the only people to exist, kissing someone on the cheek before whispering to them, interlocking fingers and squeezing their hand every once in a while, a long tableau that tells a whole story yet you can only look at once place at a time
