i've come back to say (again) i have officially left tumblr.

as of february 21, 2024, this account is no longer active. i considered deleting this blog for a while but i decided to come back and let you guys know once again.

this site has completely lost its magic for me, and as someone who's been here for around seven years, watching the place you once called home slowly self-destruct into an attempt to become every other big corporate social media -- even though people are trying to do things to bring it back to its former glory, and i laud them -- is detrimental to my experience here. tumblr stopped being fun. i grew tired of having a presence here and wanted to have an even lower profile, while at the same time figuring out my new purpose in life. this slowly grew into a resentment for all things corporate, and so i pulled the trigger and abandoned ship after much hesitation.

you can now find me at cohost. it's so much better than tumblr, it's cozier, and it's a huge win for my mental health. i'm enjoying it a lot, and i really want you guys to take the leap and join me there!

also, mutuals! add me on discord so we can still keep in touch. my username is just sekwar, plain and simple!

also, i have comics on itch.io! check them out once in a while! comics are my favourite thing to make and they give me a reason to keep doing what i'm doing!

hey girlies I’m ngl I may just leave this place behind. like I might still lurk for some things I haven’t really decided but. thank you all so much for being here, being good friends, providing good fun and entertaining my nonsense, I hope you all have a great life.

side note- this is not related to any recent events, and I am terribly sorry to all the online friends and unfinished tbcu arcs I’m leaving behind, I just need more time for myself. this has been nagging me for a while and I’ve decided that, at least till I’m a bit older, I should stay back from this kind of thing. I also spoke to my psychiatrist and he 100% agrees.

Side note 2 - I don’t plan to delete the account, in case I want to look back later on or reopen the account in the far future, but I will be logging out and deleting the app.

side note for tennis balls - I do hope that you can carry on the community in my name, as you have when I went on that months-long hiatus. Never stop having fun, you people have created a great group and I’m so happy to have started all this.

Have a great life, each and every one of you. I’ll miss you, but who knows, maybe I’ll be back someday in the far future, and maybe I will find you again.

I'd like to suggest that those of you looking for a new home consider Pillowfort. I've described it as the best of Livejournal (threaded comments, access control to individual posts, membership-based communities) mashed up with the best of Tumblr (excellent support for graphics, adult material allowed, likes and reblogs).

It's funded by user donations/subscriptions (base functionality is free, subscribers get premium features) so there is no advertising, no algorithm, and no VC to please by making the line go up. There is not an app for it (and there won't be, because of the adult material), but the mobile interface is very good.

All it's really missing is more people...

Letting folks know that I won't be actively using my tumblr and may be deleting it in the next few days. I stopped using it because of the current issue regarding trans women that continues to plague the site before and after the current hammer related incident. Said incident only drew attention to how little this site cares for me and I refuse to give them my money.

The final straw that marks me never coming back is their recent partnership with openAI and Midjourney to scrape the site for AI training data (there is a setting to turn this off but it is on by default, if you plan to keep using the site please turn it off for me.) Because of my mild dislike of AI and active distain for these companies specifically I'm not coming back. I doubt even a cancelation of these deals and a change in management can bring me back at this point.

I have a cohost, it's been slowly being set up over the last few weeks, https://cohost.org/MouseGirlBalls you can follow me there. It's an independent tumblr like website funded by plushy sales and a subscription that increases the image size limit (and nothing else, which also BTW links to other image hosting websites are not limited to my knowledge and the site previews said images very well.)

And the site is hosted by people who respect my right to exist.

And for my fellow freaks it also allows NSFW, which is set to "hide content" by default. So if you aren't looking for it you should disable it, and if you are, set it to be shown. I will be reposting said things while there. So uh. Hope that's incentive enough to follow me for some folks.

This feels like a breakup with an abusive partner, which is how I know it's good for me but it still sucks. I'll miss all y'all who don't make the migration. I might open a bluesky sometime but I don't plan on doing it at this moment. I'll post the link to it and any other social media I start on cohost if I do.

I'm going through a season of change and healing..but I'm still too proud of my work to get rid of it awl yk😭

figured it's better to part myself from the world of tumblr that enables my bad..unhealthy habits, than deprive you guys of content that is enjoyed??

Hey, so i'm going over to Bluesky if anyone wants to find me. I've been growing more suspicious of Tumblr the past year and low and behold, they really have given no fucks like everyone else and has sold all our data. I am by no means a big artist who's in the eyes of these data harvesters, I never intend to become that big or want to, but even then as a smaller artist its still hurtful. honestly with the information that the ceo of tumblr is an active zionist i no longer have interest is supporting the capital of this company. i will be deleting all accounts and blogs i have and will post alternate places to find me. i'll stay on for another 2-4 weeks while i archive posts and let people know where i'll be but overall i have no interest in this website
