I love where you’re learning a language and a sentence pops into your mind in the language you’re learning instead of your first language. It’s like teaser fluency. Your brain is like “If you think this is cool, just wait until you can conjugate verbs with any efficiency.”

little joys of learning Yiddish: knowing the author of the Tevye stories wrote under a pen name that’s basically “hello” (literally translated “peace upon you”)
in honor of this I shall henceforth be writing under the name Halen Welmet

Is the Hebrew and Yiddish "r" like the French "r"?
Jumblr- do any of you that speak Hebrew or Yiddish and trill r’s in your throat have tips for learning to roll r’s like they do in Spanish or Italian?
I’ve been trying for literal years and do not understand. I can only do the uvular trill.

Please use this post to gush about your favorite jewish music, music that's themed around judaism, or anything like that... This is totally not because I want to listen to more music like this but have no idea where to start. Totally not.......

Has anyone else noticed the weird appropriation of Yiddish for specifically anti-zionist spaces? It makes me deeply uncomfortable.

Duolingo, at it again with the incredibly useful phrases that I will no doubt be using frequently in everyday conversation...
Also, why does the bear give me the impression that it sees dead people because it just... killed a bunch of people?

Hey ישראבלר and jumblr! Do any of you speak Yiddish? I'm considering learning it, but I feel like I need a good reason to. It'd be really cool if one of y'all out there knows Yiddish and wants to learn Hebrew, so we could teach each other!
(If you just wanna learn Hebrew and don't know any Yiddish I'd still be glad to be your conversation partner, I'm Israeli and Hebrew is my first language.)
Either way, Shabbat shalom everyone 💙🤍
