It is time for me to once again infodump about Javert. Javert. JAVERT! JAVERT IS A POOR ROMANI MAN BORN INSIDE A JAIL! He is unhoused otherwise, his only home is a LITERAL PRISON! HE IS NOT A PRIVILEGED ASSHOLE! I love Javert, but I know that a lot of people don’t - that being said, if you wanna hate Javert, you have to hate him for being A CLASS TRAITOR not for being some rich white guy. CUZ HE IS NOT THAT! The main reason why he is the way he is, is because he hates his identity and his past! He HATES his circumstances and he HATES what he was born into so he takes it out on those around him! When he tells Valjean “you know nothing of Javert, i was born inside a jail, i was born with scum like you, i am from the gutter too” that’s SO true and SO sad bc he hates himself SO MUCH for what he was born into AND he hates Valjean bc he SEES HIMSELF IN VALJEAN! It’s such a good portrayal of systematic injustice and internalized racism — that is, when you actually write Javert as the poor Roma man that he is. Javert deserves SO MUCH BETTER. He is not a bad guy and he deserves to be in heaven in the musical epilogue. He hates himself and he hates people like him, and most of all he hates the people that are like him who DONT hate themselves! And THAT’S the most important part of his arc and i just wish he could’ve been able to accept himself and the people in his position. He is so complex and morally grey and so beautifully written!

“we’ve got time,” you whispered, resuming your pace, faster now. her breath came out in short gasps, her hands gripping your waist as you rode her harder, pushing both of you closer to the edge.

chaewon’s breath hitched again, her body trembling. “i’m so close,” she gasped, barely holding on. you leaned in, your lips brushing her ear.

“let go for me, just focus on this,” you whispered, your own body aching for release. chaewon’s grip tightened as you sped up, riding her with everything you had. her breathy moans filled the room, louder and more desperate.

the door knocked again, louder this time. “chaewon, now!”

but she didn’t care. with one final thrust, chaewon came, her body convulsing as she gripped you tighter. her release was hot and overwhelming, and you followed her over the edge, collapsing onto her, breathless and shaking.

it is nice to see Americans support Luigi and bring up how evil our healthcare system is, I think it will fall on deaf ears with the next administration. Americans need to decide if our current healthcare needs to change or stay the same. so far, a lot of people in this country are squeamish about socialized healthcare.

I don't think Americans have it in them to unite & fight against the elite like it's Les Mis. we let the police & feds attack us while peacefully sitting down in a designated free speech zone. how does a revolution start with that and the fact that a lot of groups have no strong leaders or are unorganized?

a majority of people in this country simp for rich people like they're gods and don't realize that those rich people see them as human cattle. it's not to sound hopeless (but I am a little apathetic), I'm just realistic about how Americans are. face it, us Americans mobilize quicker for Stanley Cups & getting angry over pronouns than our rights. our individualism will lead to our downfall.

Maybe im too woke but i im lowkey tired of seeing grantaire, the guy described as extraordinarily "ugly", offten drawn as a poc/with darker skin , in contrast to Enjolras, the guy described as beautiful, who drawn as a white person/with pale skin. It always feel so icky to me as a black person lol, especially with how commen it is.

i think there is always going to be some weird problems when people try to draw a "ugly" and "pretty" character, because beauty standards are so very rooted in racism and colorism, and are also different everywhere, but to have a character who is canonically ugly and white be drawn so offten as a person of color with brown/dark skin, somthing that has historically been deamed as ugly, is very bizarre.

I dont think people do it intentionally, and im not going force you to change the way you draw characaters, draw Grantaire as a poc and Enjolras as white if you want! Who am i to stop you! But like, maybe think about the iffy implications when doing that while drawing him next to a pale ass enjolras LOL

Anyways sincerely- a black les mis fan who is TIRED of seeing black people and other people of color deemed as ugly 😭

Summer had been calm and I’ve just been printing phone cases… except that I also reread F & V’s letters while (tried to) read (part of) Christiane Mervaud’s study of the letters and it was a blast. The book gives many, many incredible literary and psychological insights. it kind of made me rethink about fritztaire. Bitterness and arguments are so delicious for me as reader but they did hurt them deeply, and are part of the reason why Voltaire stepped away for 4 years from 1760. But the relationship between these two is like a tree that grew from mutual admiration, then intertwined with flaws and pettiness, coped with events of the world, lost some of the original color, while continuing to spiral upwards and span intellectually, to last 42 years and to BE THEM, TOGETHER. after all admiration and attraction was in the root.

Also I’m so grateful for the author to highlight that it was Wilhelmine who made the correspondence in 1757-58 possible, or better it was a three way correspondence. Been trying to collect the letters to actually reflect this!

The letters themselves on the other hand are light and witty and fun (except a few years’) and some passages are wilder than fanfics I still have a hard time grasping their realness? Such a treasure trove. can’t believe it’s my 4th year as a fv shipper and I am still rambling about them daily :-)))))))

gonna be completely honest now. i am not sure if i will ever love anyone or anything with the same intensity, the same raw, agonising devotion that i feel towards valvert. i have never even suspected that i will be able to have so much love and admiration in me before i discovered les mis and dived headfirst into the depths of their relationship, the anguish, the chase, the fear, the rage, the hope, the hopelessness. the recognition, the denial, the acceptance, the forgiveness. the love, for fuck’s sake. and it probably sounds silly and immature and obsessive and whatnot but my heart is tearing itself into pieces whenever i think about them. it’s the kinda love jesus must have felt for humanity or whatever the fuck.

A (long) Rant and Au Revoir

I'm Canadian. And I'm in a country that is under attack by its powerful neighbour. A neighbour that is intent on destroying our economy, taking our jobs, lowering our living standards, and erasing our sovereignty.

For the past sixty years we have, with the cooperation and invitation of the United States, conjoined our economy with theirs. Essentially there's been a North American economic union, first established by the original NAFTA treaty in the late 1980s. Canada relied on those treaties and the entire Canadian economy is now dependent upon access to the U.S. market.

And it turns out to have been a trap.

The U.S. President now imposes ruinous tariffs - on fake (what else would it be when coming from Trump?) and flimsy national security grounds - the obvious intent of which is to de-industrialize Canada (and Mexico) for the benefit of the U.S.

And sure, every country has the right to impose tariffs to protect vital national interests, or to protest unfair trade practices by another state. But across the board 25% tariffs against Mexico and Canada are not that; rather they are a form of economic warfare in which one state is using its economic advantage to beggar its neighbours. And it will result in severe economic hardship for my family and friends. (I have friends who work in the auto industry. They expect to be laid off in the next couple of weeks.)

I remember Trump texting - when it appeared that Russia was going to defeat Ukraine in a matter of days - how "smart" Putin was. Trump has no morality or sense of right and wrong. He only celebrates power and success.

It really depresses me that even the "liberal" American media that I follow (CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, etc.) sees this from a purely American viewpoint. What might it do to U.S. rate of inflation? How will it affect American jobs? But where is the outrage about an illegitimate exercise of power? That this is an aggressive and unprovoked attack on weaker countries that have done nothing to deserve such a response? (And god help me if anyone mentions fentanyl!!)

Anyway, I could go on and on. And on. But it makes no difference.

So one very small thing I'm doing is to cut all of my use or purchase of American goods. There's no fucking way I'll buy anything made in America. And that means cancelling Netflix and Prime and Apple+, the Times, and any other product that means I'm paying money to a U.S. entity.

Platforms like Tumblr and Instagram and BlueSky are a bit different. I don't directly pay anything for their use. (And, in the case of Tumblr, it probably loses money.) But they are American owned and, at this moment, that's not something that sits too well with me. And, sorry, that's probably irrational and unfair, but that's how it is.

I hope it's "au revoir" and not goodbye.

AND I JUST GOT TO SEE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE NORTH AMERICA TOUR (more specifically Montreal! (yes i flew to an entirely different country to see it)) and i am incredibly attached to enjolras and grantaire so here are just things i saw that made my nails dig into my thighs <3 (not just enjoltaire)

oh my dear months old source of no big sad

this is 90% incoherent rambling (SPOILERS)

- Grantaire had long hair and a long coat i think that deserves its own point

- During Red and Black, Grantaire did the old “Don Juan” with the bottle right in Enjolras’ face (he was not impressed)

- In this same song, Enjolras got really close to R’s face during “don’t let the wine go to your brain”

- Again, in Red and Black, when they tossed Grantaire’s bottle to Enj, teasing him, Grantaire grabbed the bottle in a… way… when he was giving it back to him

- Same song 😭 Grantaire was bouncing on a guy’s lap during the first few verses

- In DYHTPS, Grantaire pulled Gavroche aside away from the students crowding Enjolras (this broke my heart, he clearly loves him and doesn’t want him to be in a war)

- “Glad to do a friend a favor” with a very suggestive hand gesture

- In the “dogs will bark flees will bite”, Grantaire pointed a finger at Enjolras, the former getting real close putting his weapon between them. They got REALLY close

- Gavroche pulled the middle finger at Javert lmao

-Eponine fucking died (i knew that already, seen every bootleg and version available, still hit hard)

- During Eponine’s death Gavroche ran onto the stage, closely followed by Grantaire being held onto by Enjolras

- Gavroche tried approaching Eponine (that’s his sister bro :()) but was stopped and held onto by Grantaire. When she died however, Grantaire quickly bent to hug Gavroche, man the grief was so clear with them both.

- After she died, everyone cleared to their positions but Enjolras and Grantaire, seemingly for Enjolras to try and comfort him, but decided against it quickly and pushed past him. Grantaire placed his hand on his chest in mock offense 😭

- When the attack was about to start, Grantaire mocked and toyed with tied up Javert. When Enjolras called for hold, Grantaire threw his arms around Javert with a “yep!” and cue the battle starting immediately when that happened

- During Grantaire’s verse during Drink With Me, it’s back to Enjolras and Grantaire being center stage. Enjolras approached him, held onto his arm and with the same hand moved up to brush R’s hair, which lead to him breaking off the contact and rushing to the other corner of the stage.

-He was followed by Gavroche, who hugged him from behind and then they both fell asleep next to each other :((

- Gavroche fucking died (i knew he did still heartbreaking) and was caught by Enj, who handed him to Grantaire

- During the Gavroche solo, Grantaire stood center stage looking to the crowd, not even flinching when the gun sounded, only turning around when Gavroche was already at the top of the barricade

- He tried shaking him awake :(( then set him down and stared at him :((

- That was until Marius fell, Enjolras rushing to check on him, making Grantaire rush to his side

- R grabbed onto Enj and they both held the back of each other’s necks,, from my angle it looked like their foreheads touched but idk if they would do that but MANNN

-Enjolras fucking died first (no wtf :(( )

- Grantaire fucking died last (BRO.)

- Everyone fucking died bro

- Except Marius and JVJ of course

- Mr Thenardier, instead of singing “This one’s a queer but what can you do”, sang “This one’s a queer, I’ll try it to!” and dipped a guy in the wedding 😭

- The “to love another person is to see the face of god” line always makes me emotional just :((
