Bill and Shirley are the best friends two elephants can be. They’re together all the time, building cities out of blocks, being pirates in the back yard, and making up plays. They like some of the same things, like computer games and baseball, but Shirley likes girly things too, like dress-up and dancing.

One day, Bill goes over to play with Shirley to find that she doesn’t want to be a she anymore. Now Shirley’s name is Byron, and he’s a him, not a her. Byron still likes computer games and baseball, but his favorite color is still pink, and he still likes dress-up and dancing. Bill finds this confusing. If Byron’s a boy now, shouldn’t he stop liking girly things?

Bill and Byron introduces the idea of gender fluidity and interest diversity to children, and teaches the importance of acceptance and friendship. We're working toward bringing Bill and Byron to life, and are currently running a GoFundMe to raise the money to pay for the fully illustrated book and to then make it available at all major retailers. Each story is based of a fairytale and each couple is a Gay Vampire Romance (18+ of course)

Went into a bookstore to browse today and the “women’s studies” section was about 1/4 the size of the “lbgt studies” section. And even on the women’s studies shelf half the books were about tims. In this massive bookstore by a university there were a single digit number of books genuinely focusing on women in the entire non fiction floor.

People hating on Billy calling him the “white twink” (y’all wanna say f*g so badly, and don’t get me started on ya’ll calling him white) like he isn’t a traumatized gay, Jewish, teenager.

I’m a hardcore Agatha and Rio shipper myself (getting a tattoo in January hellooooo), but acting like his character wasn’t important to the central story and took time away from the ship when SO many comic fans were thrilled to finally have Billy on their screens. I watched episode 6 with a friend who happens to be a gay man, and he almost cried.

Plus, from the perspective of LBGT+ rep: once again, I love Rio and Agatha, but Agatha is a serial killer. I repeat: a serial killer. One could argue that she’s not good representation (not me, any representation is good representation), but now we have Billy: a sweet teenage boy who happens to be gay. Look. A hero who is gay. He’s going to be in the Young Avengers, and he’s gay. That’s a big deal.

You can argue that Agatha’s series wasn’t the place for his introduction, but I don’t see people complaining about Lilia’s episode. In fact Marvel now plans to introduce Jennifer to the general MCU. Are we upset about that?

Look, I wanted more Rio and Agatha scenes as much as the next person, but I’m not about to use practical slurs to tear down a character who means so much to so many people who is also a literal gay child.

As a lesbian shipper, I get that we often feel pushed under the rug. I’ve posted about it before plenty of times. But to act like the main love interest of the main character being a woman which resulted in no one batting an eye at her orientation, her able to make a gay joke, an almost kiss and then a FULL ON MAKEOUT session in one of the most sexless franchises on the planet isn’t a win…gosh, if that isn’t a win, I don’t know what is.

Jac Schaeffer has also apologized (though I really don’t feel like she needed to) for any mishaps and lack of scenes that she now regrets. I feel confident that when (not if, but when) a season 2 comes around and if Jac is at the helm, she’s learned her lesson.

But let’s be clear here: we shippers can get in over our heads and ignore the point of a show in favor of our own agenda. Let’s not forget that this is a Marvel TV show which is all about comic books and superheroes, not romance.

I’ve seen non-marvel companies fumble wlw couples HARD. The fact that this really isn’t, to the general viewer, a fumble on the superheroes in tights production company says a LOT.

Korra-Avatar: The Legend of Korra

Qualifications:

Korra is not only bisexual, having dated both Asami Sato and Mako, but was and still is disabled by the end of the series. She doesn't magically get better from being poisoned, she's forced to relearn a lot of things: how to walk, how to do things for herself, and even how to fight properly. Her physical disabilities are mixed with extensive trauma and PTSD that prevents her from doing her job as the Avatar throughout Book 4: Balance.

Canonically bisexual, has PTSD, and spent a while partially paralyzed and using a wheelchair.

Bisexual badass who ended up going through about 5038309340 traumatizing events, one of which involved mercury poisoning that had her unable to walk for about a year and left her with lasting PTSD and depression (though again the depression is a little less clear wheras the PTSD was obviously intended to be read as such). There was also her shadow self, but it's unclear whether that was a form of psychosis or a literal spirit. In short, she's bi and has PTSD if you want to stick with the more long term, obviously canon bits.

Propaganda:

She's the Avatar, you gotta deal with it! But, seriously, Avatar Korra was the first onscreen LBGT+ character in the Avatar franchise alongside her girlfriend Asami Sato. While limited in what could be shown onscreen, the two were explictly portrayed as a couple in the 2016 Dark Horse comic "Legend of Korra: Turf Wars". Likewise, her disability never quite went away. She still struggled with trauma, PTSD, and learning how to do things for herself again for two to three years in the time between books 3 and 4 that were shown off in flashbacks during her solo episodes.

She's canonically bi and has PTSD, and disability was an incredibly important theme for her in her show's final season.

The creators of Korra, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, fought long and hard for their show, including taking a massive budget slash circa book 4 to avoid firing half their staff. Likewise, they took to Tumblr and other social media in 2014 to state firmly that Korra and Asami were both bisexual and in love. Propaganda:

Neil goes through so much it's amazing he is still functioning as a person. He bottles up all of his trauma but he still has nightmares and triggers that bring back the trauma he felt from his abusive mafia father and his abusive mother. However, once he lands at PSU to play D1 Exy, he finds a home with all of his other broken teammates and coach. This includes Andrew Minyard, another possible contender for this bracket. While he still has trauma to deal with, he becomes a much more well adjusted and happy person with his teammates. :)

Very gay, pretty commonly thought of to have some sort of trauma disorder, he’s neat. I have many thoughts about him as a character but I don’t really feel like writing them.
