Early days of the space race with the launch of the Little Joe II, Aug 1963. The rocket was used 5x for uncrewed tests of the launch escape system of Apollo spacecraft between 1963-66. At 86 feet in height, it was the smallest of the 4 launch rockets during the Apollo era.

YPSat looks back to Earth from atop Ariane 6 by European Space Agency Via Flickr: An image of Earth acquired by the ESA Young Professionals Satellite payload, YPSat, attached to the upper stage of the inaugural Ariane 6 rocket, launched on 9 July 2024. The YPSat project represents the culmination of about two and a half years of dedication and hard work core team of about 30 Young Professionals from various ESA Establishments, Directorates and disciplines. Sacrificing their spare time, they shouldered the entire responsibility of designing, building and testing the payload before finally witnessing its successful launch. Learn more. Credits: ESA-YPSat

Ariane 6 first liftoff
flickr
Ariane 6 first liftoff by European Space Agency Via Flickr: Europe’s new rocket Ariane 6 powered Europe into space taking with it a varied selection of experiments, satellites, payload deployers and reentry demonstrations that represent thousands across Europe, from students to industry and experienced space actors. This inaugural flight, designated VA262, is a demonstration flight to show the capabilities and prowess of Ariane 6 in escaping Earth's gravity and operating in space. Nevertheless, it had several passengers on board. Ariane 6 was built by prime contractor and design authority ArianeGroup. In addition to the rocket, the liftoff demonstrated the functioning of the launch pad and operations on ground at Europe's Spaceport. The new custom-built dedicated launch zone was built by France's space agency CNES and allows for a faster turnover of Ariane launches. Ariane 6 is Europe’s newest heavy-lift rocket, designed to provide great power and flexibility at a lower cost than its predecessors. The launcher’s configuration – with an upgraded main stage, a choice of either two or four powerful boosters and a new restartable upper stage – will provide Europe with greater efficiency and possibility as it can launch multiple missions into different orbits on a single flight, while its upper stage will deorbit itself at the end of mission. ESA’s main roles in the Ariane 6 programme is as contracting authority – managing the budget from Member States participating in the Ariane 6 development programme; and as launch system architect – ensuring that the rocket and launch pad infrastructure work together. Ariane 6 is the latest in Europe's Ariane rocket series, taking over from Ariane 5 featuring a modular and versatile design that can launch missions from low-Earth orbit and farther out to deep space. The suit is hard to wear under winter clothes, but I make sure to do it anyways. Sometimes I wish I could just wear clothes over my skin, feel how that feels. I get jealous of the others sometimes because of it.
I don’t need you to remind me how many times the suit’s saved my life. I already feel fragile enough when I think about it. I get that I’m in a special place compared to them, but it really feels like it’s a lot easier for them. They don’t have to wear clothes over very part of their body from the neck down just to hide the suit, because they only have to use the suit when they want to.
Listen, I know that sounds like I’m going to take off the suit. Don’t freak out, I’m not going to do it, I’m just trying to air out my frustrations a little. I mean, that’s part of why I send these to you anyways.
I went grocery shopping today. It was a little confusing when I found this aisle in the store that was just full of Christmas stuff, and a huge section was just dedicated to these things that I’d never seen before, they look like if an angel arch was only bent at the end, so it looks like an upside-down J instead of the classic horseshoe shape. On top of that, they had these red striped spiraling all over them. I bought some of them and I was a little disappointed to find out that they don’t taste any different from angel arches. I think they might be the same thing, actually.
I’m a little relieved that you took my concerns about Lex seriously. I’ve been seeing a woman around town lately and somehow my brain keeps telling me she’s him, and you and I both know that he’s not above doing something like that to escape notice. I still want to keep an eye on her though. Even though she’s obviously not Lex, something still tells me she’s important. I’ll update you.
Sincerely, Launch Pad

A reluctant rocket launch
A reluctant rocket launch
Friday evening was supposed to treat me to the sight of an Electron rocket lighting up the sky above Wallops Island, Va. Instead, it served up a sea of brake lights at the end of a long drive home from Virginia’s Eastern Shore. But that’s a known risk of trying to schedule a trip to see a rocket launch. The fiendishly complex machinery needed to get a launch vehicle to defy gravity’s pull and…

Standing tall. The Saturn V rocket stands at Launch Pad 39A in preparation for Apollo 11, July 1969. The 363-foot tall rocket was flown between 1967-73. It launched 9 crewed flights to the moon & also Skylab, the 1st 🇺🇸 space station. As of this date, it remains the only rocket to carry humans beyond low earth orbit.

Daniel on coming back to the Red Bull family: "There is a feeling of loyalty and nostalgia, memory and support. They've been with me since I was 17 - 18 years old. A lot of my career was shaped off being a Red Bull driver. Apart from mom and dad, they gave me this opportunity. You come back, it's like a full-circle thing where you feel a lot of gratitude and appreciation and overall, just happiness and that feeling of belonging. Through that, I've started to feel like myself again and that confidence comes back and I feel I can do some pretty good things on the race track again."
