so I saw this expression/palette challenge recently and I really wanted to do it, but I didn't want to fully open up requests here, either. so I ended up just asking some friends for suggestions and here were some of the results!

I had a LOT of fun with these, honestly. might do more of 'em sometime in the future?? idk, we'll see!

Guyssss I’m so sorry that I’ve been so busy. I’ve literally not even been able to check my messages in ages. Let’s just say this crisis situation has been a little tough on me both physically and mentally. I’m sure it has on you all too. However, I dropped in to give you this!! I finally drew some proper fanart of @laughingmist‘s adorable character Melvin! He has such a fun design, and the fact that he’s an adoptive father won me over instantly. It was an absolute pleasure drawing him :>

I had a bunch of random, unfinished MC AU sketches strewn about my art folders (from both this year and last year), so I figured I might as well compile a bunch of the ones that I thought were still good! ;o;

felt like messing with my style just a little bit to keep things kinda fresh :'0 I've been playing Ace Attorney recently and I was reminded of just how much those games have influenced my art style in general... so I figured it'd be kinda fun to pull a little bit more from that style, in a way? specifically with the eyes.

had a lot of fun with these sketches, ngl. I need to remember that it's Okay if I'm not creating massive projects or lots of full-body poses, and that sometimes I gotta let myself draw simple expressions just for the fun of it ;o;

a collection of characters (both new and old) that I drew to test out Procreate on my friend's iPad! worked on these over the course of a few days, and I really had a lot of fun with 'em ;w;

might as well name off who's here, going from left to right, and top to bottom:

- Jimmy Neutron (specifically his Minecraft AU variant)

- Samara (Minecraft AU)

- Pierre Joliet, AKA my oldest OC and one I haven't drawn in so long oh gosh

- Khalan (also Minecraft AU)

- Robert Darke, who used to be SpongeBob but is now more or less his own character at this point xD

honestly sometimes. u just gotta draw a bunch of character busts because it's Easy and Fun. ngl, it really helped me ease out of the rut I had been in, as well :'0

...In an instant, Melvin handed the unconscious Khalan over to [Florence] as a copious amount of glowing plasma dripped from his mouth and into the pan like fresh lava. Melvin seemed to have absolutely no control over it, and his body didn't even convulse when it occurred. It were as if something deep inside him was overflowing, and had nowhere to escape to.

"What's happening to you?!" Florence cried as she unconsciously held Khalan closer. "What is that...?!"

yet another whumpy RP sketch, of course. @laughingmist and I came up with this offhand scenario where Mara's ghost makes an unwelcome return in Mel's world, and she ends up poisoning both Mel and Khalan. there's more to it than just that, obviously, but I wanted to share this feelsy sketch without having to go into too much detail about how things ended up this way ><;;

this particular image was so strikingly clear in my mind when reading my friend's RP reply (referenced above), and I'm glad I managed to draw it out in a way that was pretty faithful to what I had in mind :0

(also don't worry, the boys are fine in the end - we're just suckers for sick fics so we tend to write that trope a lot as our main source of hurt/comfort lol)

2020 art summary!

January • February • March • April May • June • July • August September • October • November • December

Almost didn’t even do the summary thing this year, since I felt like I wouldn’t have a lot of decent art overall... but despite how rough this year has been for me mentally, I’m proud of myself for accomplishing more than I thought I did.

Also I’m pretty sure this marks the first time where I have stuck with drawing literally One character nonstop throughout the entire year. Normally, I switch gears halfway through the year between at least two different fandoms, but it was Jimmy Neutron’s time to shine, I guess xD Lots of fun RP and AU ideas came about as a result, though! I’ve certainly embraced the concept of creating whatever I want, whether my followers understand it or not. A very self-indulgent kind of art year, really - which is exactly what I needed on a personal level.

All in all, it’s been a wild 2020, and this silly little boy genius ended up being a big source of comfort for me through it all ;o; I’m looking forward to whatever new artistic adventures await in 2021 <33

time for some more self-indulgent sketches - this time with wings! kinda decided to build off of the idea behind this pic just for the heck of it, because I've always loved wings but I worried for years that it'd be too "cringe" to draw this kind of thing. BUT cringe culture is DEAD and I can draw what I want!! no one can stop me!

so the general concept behind these takes place in the latter part of the Nocturne AU, as something like this could only happen within the strange new world that Jim finds himself in. a magical mishap causes him to sprout wings (much to his dismay), but eventually Jim learns to embrace that change and use it to his advantage.

the other thing I kinda touched on in this batch of sketches is his relationship with @laughingmist‘s character Hazel. She basically fills in as a mother figure for Jim, and he acts as a sort of "apprentice" for her by helping out with her medicinal craft. Jim finds that he enjoys creating elixirs and potions, since it's basically another form of chemistry (albeit a more magical version lol), and he decides to eventually pursue medicine as a full-time career within this world once he gets proficient enough at it. ;o;

and of course, the last pic is a little concept where Melvin accidentally gets sick while he and Jim are out running errands, so Jim takes it upon himself to get the big monster man back home so he can take care of Mel;; but. being a Very Tiny Boy, it's a bit of a challenge to fly with all of that extra weight xD he’s doing his best, tho!!

anyway it's been a lot of fun to just let loose and run with whatever random concept pops into my head. I appreciate y'all putting up with my crazy (and probably confusing) story ideas, lol.

just wanted to draw some good boys, all of whom I love very much;;; this AU has been so much fun to work on, you guys. hopefully I'll have some more plot-centric art at some point, but for now, I hope y'all can enjoy this fun little compilation :'D
