The Yiling Wei sect: their colours are red and black, their sect symbol is a blood red drop: for the guidao cultivation of their patriarch, for the medical cultivation they practise, for the tears and pain it took to be free. Both a petal from the lotus of the Jiang and a ray from the Wen sun, the blood drop symbolises the identity they forged together in the Burial Mounds.

Thinking about how secondary schools usually have three-word Latin mottos on the emblem to show which virtues are most exercised ("Modeste, Strenue, Sancte", "Stet Fortuna Domus"..) so having the original Bully game named Canis Canem Edit was a jab at this system while hinting at what Bullworth's climate is like.
#Im surprised I hadn't noticed sooner???#remembering every moment that emphasised the school motto#gary's 'it's sink or swim' line#and dr crabblesnitch's dialogues about 'fixing' the students#I could list so many examples of each time we see bullying not just in the school setting b/w students#but also teacher to teacher (Hattrick vs Galloway)#and student to adult#parent to parent#it's all about the strong eating the strong now because they've long since pruned the weak#oh and apparently this is not just in British schools as I initially thought#but a lot of other schools (particularly secondary) across America also have Latin mottos#bully scholarship edition#bully cce#canis canem edit#bully game#bully rockstar#bully#bully canis canem edit#cyapityy

So I'm a Science Spider, not a Language Spider. Trying to make a motto for emails and such that means: "Knowledge is power, and with great power, there must also come great responsibility." Google says: "Scientia potentia est et cum potentia magna venit magnus responsabilitate", should work. But I don't know enough Latin syntax to confirm and my searches about it are confusing. Are there any Latin enthusiasts on here?

And it hit me.
what does this house look like???
and my friends that's exactly how I ended up with a notebook full of maps and house layouts.
And oh my god??? its so helpful?? do this!!! start a little journal for your characters and worlds! And even if you don't publish your work you have a cute keepsake of the time and love and effort you threw INTO this work!
I love love love writing and creating!!!

Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum: Unveiling the Wisdom of 'If You Want Peace, Prepare for War 🕊️⚔️
The Essence of Strategic Readiness
Translated as "If you want peace, prepare for war," this quote encapsulates the strategic notion that being well-prepared and strong serves as a deterrent, reducing the likelihood of conflict.
Historical Context
Originating from Roman military philosophy, this maxim reflects the understanding that a nation's strength and readiness act as a safeguard, discouraging potential adversaries from instigating hostilities.
Diplomacy and Deterrence
The quote emphasizes the importance of diplomacy and preparedness as complementary elements in the pursuit of peace. A nation that is perceived as strong is often in a better position to negotiate and maintain stability.
A Modern Interpretation
In contemporary contexts, the maxim is invoked to highlight the importance of maintaining a robust defense and strategic capabilities to ensure national security, contributing to global peace through strength.
Striking a Balance
While the phrase underscores the necessity of military preparedness, it also urges a delicate balance between strength and diplomacy. A nation's goal should be peace, with war considered only as a last resort.
Preventing Aggression
The essence of the quote lies in deterring aggression rather than actively seeking conflict. By demonstrating preparedness, a nation can discourage potential adversaries from choosing the path of war.
Applicability Beyond Warfare
The wisdom in "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" extends to various aspects of life, emphasizing the value of preparation and resilience in facing challenges, not just in the realm of conflict.
