Romances on TV/Film screens

Let’s talk romance novels and tv/film.

We’re seeing a mass upswing in the desire for more shows like Bridgerton. More shows based on romance novels.

BUT, while the market is there, Hollywood executives and higher up creatives don’t seem to get the message.

Why is that? My theory, based on my experience attempting to pitch several romance based scripts, is threefold.

1. The existing bias against romance -despite being the highest selling genre around

2. Those making the decisions on what to pass and what to buy don’t like or understand romance.

3. Those writing this scripts aren’t romance writers or readers. You can’t just toss in sex scenes and call it romance.

Bottom line there is a huge market for more shows like Bridgerton. We just need Hollywood to listen, read romances and make it happen.
