“Alright, ready?”
“No.”
“Come on,” March drew out the last word, wiggling his fingers.
“I am not doing this again.”
“You don’t want some finger action?” Ryis butted in from beside December. The table was formed in the same way as March and December’s previous arm wrestle.
“Ha!” the farmer barked, nudging the carpenter while March groaned.
Ryis nudged back, forgetting that drunken December excused nobody from her antics. She hopped up from her seat, a little wobbly before catching her balance, and began to noogie him.
“Uncle! Uncle!” he cried through his laughter, frantically patting his assailant’s arms.
“Yeah? What?” Landen called from the bar.
“No, not literally—“ The nephew heard an Oof! as December’s knuckles disappeared from his scalp, and turned around to see March trying to wrangle the squirmy farmer back into her seat. ”Huh?!” Ryis reacted, thoroughly amused.
“Arm wrestle me, coward!”
“Why? What are you trying to prove?!”
“I just like winning,” March boasted, lifting her up over his shoulders like a damn sack of potatoes during the last word. “C’mere.”
Immediately at the bar, Hemlock, Terithia, Errol and Landen held their breath and winced, hoping someone was ready to catch the farmer should March drop her. They all recognized his strength, but had yet to see him lift someone — and this was with alcohol in him, no less.
“Unhand me, you cretin!”
“Hey, is that a good workout?” Olric asked his brother.
Immediately distracted by the question, March unceremoniously plopped back into his own spot, transitioning December into a bridal carry before setting her down in his lap in one fluid motion. The onlookers let out a sigh of relief before getting back to their conversation.
December, whose heart raced at her partner’s show of strength, absentmindedly fidgeted with the pendant he wore around his neck while he responded, “Eh, I guess.”
“I should lift Merri.”
“What if you lift Merri,” December paused to swallow back what was either a hiccup or a burp — she couldn’t say which, “while Merri lifts something else? Like, a chair, or something.”
“Oh!” Olric snapped, wagging an approving finger towards the farmer. “I like that.”
December tapped her head and winked in response. March tapped her head too, and knowing she’d attempt to bite his finger, retracted it before she could get the chance. She pouted and slumped herself against him.
“Comfy?” Balor asked December.
Yes. She could’ve fallen asleep right there, in spite of the inn’s volume; and March was much less hellbent on defeating his nemesis now, as he was more focused on how warm she was, how soft her hair felt as it brushed his bare bicep, and how adorable she looked curled up atop him with her cheek against his collar, so he wouldn’t be opposed to it.
She nodded confidently, her smile dopey and dreamy as she began shimmying further inward to lessen the space where her body ended and March’s started. Once she was situated, March reached around to the table and grabbed his beer. Just as he was about to take a sip, though, December stole it and took her own.
“You’re lucky you’re cute, ‘cause you’re being a real shit head right now.”
“Hm?” December feigned innocence, “What do you mean?”
“Sharing is caring, bro,” Olric flicked March’s closest arm.
December happily hummed while swallowing another swig, “Mhm!” It was after this that March put a stop to her thievery.
“You two should drink some water,” Ryis suggested into a sip of his own.
”You should drink—“
“My balls,” December cut March off.
She really was on another level that night. Perhaps the sickly sweet desserts she shared with Celine and Eiland earlier, paired with the sugary drinks Hemlock had served them, wasn’t the best combination in the world.
Regardless, it had been fun, and it made December funny, thus leading to March nearly spitting his beer onto her after hearing her disruptive words.
“Do you even have balls?” Ryis asked, hesitating halfway through the sentence, but finishing it nonetheless.
“Gigantic ones.”
Dell overheard this from near the cauldron, and immediately began to plan a new heist with the Dragonguard: one in which they’d sneak onto December’s farm to steal her gigantic balls, as Dell could only assume at her young age that December meant the beach balls her cows and sheep played with. She’d never seen them herself, but Celine had mentioned them in passing.
The three agreed this would put their failed mission to snoop through Balor’s room to shame.
Olric was closest to them, and burst out laughing in the wake of their clumsy whispers. Balor patted him on the back when it turned into a cough, his own beer having mixed with his air.
“Is this true?” Balor mused to March, giving Olric’s back one last hearty rub for good measure.
“They’re like boulders,” he nodded, “Never seen anything like ‘em.”
December snorted, hiding her face in the crook of March’s neck. He instinctively leaned his head atop hers.
“I can’t tell if you’re joking,” Ryis admitted through his laughter, his eyebrows upturned, “You can never know for sure!”
“Why do you wanna know so much about my girl’s huge balls?” March accused, jabbing the air in the carpenter’s direction.
December nuzzled him a bit to cope with being called his girl, as though it would rid her belly of its fluttering.
“Morbid curiosity.”
Balor nodded in agreement with Ryis.
Olric nodded too, but he didn’t care all that much. He was more interested in learning something new about his brother by proxy of this. Love is love, he figured, and whether or not December had colossal nuts didn’t matter to him as long as March was happy.
“Alright, alright,” December giggled into her hand before lifting her face again to diffuse any potential genitalia allegations, “I don’t have balls.”
“Aw, crap!” Dell — who had begun eavesdropping again upon hearing Ryis’ speculations — whisper-yelled.
“Dell!” Maple gasped, “You can’t just say that!”
“Gods, help me,” Olric doubled over, hearing the Dragonguard once again. He crossed his arms on the table and dipped his face into them, muffling his laughter.
This time, March and December both heard the kids and reacted similarly, folding in on each other as they often seemed to during nights like these. They didn’t even know the context — the pair simply thought that the interaction was silly. Balor, as usual, maintained a lopsided grin, his cool demeanor masking how hard he was struggling to not crack up.
Ryis couldn’t hear Dell, therefore he had no idea what was going on. He tilted his head at Balor in hopes for context, but the merchant simply shook his head.
Damn.
He used whatever the distraction was as an opportunity to go grab some glasses and a water pitcher from Hemlock, determined to look out for his friends.
__
The couple went on with their usual routine to get a head-start on sobering up — junk food and lots of water — before they both headed to December’s. It was a Friday, so they’d stayed out a bit later than they would on any other night at the inn, as most of the town tended to; regardless, they had no intention to separate, March happily following the farmer inside her home the moment she suggested he hang out for a while longer.
Upon being greeted by Goose, December scooped him up and patted a few kisses to his head. Then, she held the cat out slightly, giving March a blank look until he caved and did the same — first to Goose, and then, to her surprise, to her. Still tipsy and overall just teaching himself to loosen up a bit around her, March didn’t care much about how grossly cute the action was. It felt strange, sure, but as December smiled up at him — Goose observing him too, with those buggy eyes of his, and still cradled in her arms — and tip-toed to give his cheek a kiss, he couldn’t help but be happy he did it.
He noticed in that moment how often something like that happened… him acting on impulse around her, and being rewarded for it, in a way. He didn’t know what to make of it.
They proceeded to sit on the couch with some more water, chatting for a while. December yapped about a cool moth she’d found the other night. If Errol’s enclosures weren’t so humane, she wouldn’t have had the heart to donate it, she admitted. Luckily, he makes them with the bugs‘ comfort in mind, so she knew it would be happy and that she could go see it whenever she wanted to.
March all but melted while he listened to December continue to ramble on about bugs — something he never thought would happen, especially given how genuinely annoyed he was when Errol began accepting her critters as donations. Feeling the need to one-up her accomplishment in practically filling the entire museum all by herself, he bragged about an order he got from Dell to make a dragon-shaped belt buckle, and how well that was going in spite of the challenge.
Similarly to March, December couldn’t help but swoon a little. When he got fired up, his eyes would twinkle like stars and his brows would furrow, like he was as determined as he was excited to simply dump all his knowledge about his craft onto whoever would listen. His passion was palpable.
The two momentarily wondered, though, how he was going to get paid for this particular project. He’d cut Holt some slack if Dell didn’t contribute, but came to the conclusion that he really should’ve asked about that first.
December, while grabbing a much-needed pain killer, talked about how it took her far too long to realize that the best way to fight those rock-spewing assholes in the mines was to parry them, which is why she always had such scuffed swords. March, inviting her to lean against him when she arrived back, explained how upset Olric was that he got hit by those during his and December’s trip down there. He made it a point to lightly scold her too, for not being more careful with the fruits of her labor.
He knew she didn’t enjoy forging her own equipment. He also knew she’d be damned if she ever purchased anything he made.
As they grew more weary, they’d begun to rely on one another to support each other’s weight, similarly to the last time they’d found themselves in this situation. Luckily, they had much less to worry about now, given how much closer they’d gotten from that night-onward. The lack of uncertainty was nothing short of a gift.
December’s body dragged lower and lower until she eventually had her head on the smith’s tummy. His own form had sunk far enough that his legs were barely even on the furniture anymore, so this was her best resting spot at the moment, really. March was also at an awkward angle, now, where he was half-laying back and half-leaning his weight onto his side, allowing them to easily look at each other while they tangled together.
He watched fondly as December fought sleep, doing her best to listen to his stories and stay coherent with her responses. He was convinced he was hiding his own weariness well, but December could see through the facade even in her barely-there state.
“Stay over?” she eventually mumbled, beginning to worry about his walk home.
“Mmhn—“ he tried to answer — with what words, he had no clue — his head failing to stay entirely upright and his grip on December's thigh loosening.
She huffed a laugh through her nose, unable to help how cute she thought he was like this.
She reluctantly straightened before tugging his hand. “C’mon,” she insisted.
With a groan, March leaned up, and with some effort, they both stood tall. Goose had been on the cat tree beside them and got up as well, stretching and readying himself to follow them to bed.
December barely had it in her to change into pajamas, thus simply stripping herself of her bra and jeans before clamoring onto the mattress. March had no pajamas. Aside from a few baggy sweaters that it was far too warm for, none of the farmer’s clothes would fit him, so he found himself beside her in nothing but his boxer-briefs.
This was their first sleepover, the two simultaneously realized as Goose settled in with them. They’d had accidental naps together a small handful of times, but had yet to wake up side-by-side after a full night of rest. As December scooted back to be spooned, and March readily engulfed her in his arms, she smiled to herself, excited for how domestic this felt. How right it felt.
And as they woke up about eight hours later, having slept in until ten with their legs tied and heads foggy; as they took turns using December’s toothbrush, and then took an innocent shower together, washing their grogginess away; as March helped December harvest and water her crops, before getting started on breakfast while she released her animals to graze and frolic; March realized that this was exactly what he’d daydreamed of the last time he lingered here after a rowdy night at the inn.
Back then, he was worried by those thoughts.
Back then, December rarely even had them — albeit, in her case, it was only because she never thought this would be possible, and didn’t want to get her hopes up for a future that didn’t exist. Her lacking daydreams about March were a defense mechanism, in a way.
Now, March welcomed his hopes and feelings, just as he welcomed his partner back inside, tugging her to stand between his arms as he topped their bowls of rice and greens with an egg each.
Now, December welcomed such thoughts in the first place, especially as they sat on the bench she kept near Caldarus, sharing their meal and each other’s company beneath her fruit trees. She thought of what the future could bring. How many times they’d come to spend their earliest hours of the day together. Maybe they’d be each other’s people until the day they died, and grow old together, and make a routine of mornings just like this one.
She peeked up at March at that thought and was temporarily stunned, as though she’d looked at the sun itself. The rays that seeped through their leafy shade framed him perfectly, accentuating his warm undertones with a soft, welcoming light, similar to that of his forge’s fire.
Feeling eyes on him, March reciprocated. On the opposite end of the spectrum entirely, he noticed how even in the shade, December seemed to glow. She was the moon, his beacon of light in the dark, with each smile and laugh that graced her face being a new phase in its cycle. She shifted phases then and there, and the tenderness in her eyes paired with the curve of her lips flustered March.
“What are you looking at?” he deflected, his cheeks warm.
“Nothing much.”
“Oi,” he nudged her with a light elbow before scruffing up her hair.
“Oi yourself!” December laughed, lightly slapping his hand until he stopped.
She promptly leaned against him once he’d settled down. March didn’t hesitate to wrap his arm around her shoulders and rest his cheek into her scalp, his thumb rubbing circles on her shoulder in the meantime.
Happily existing in silence, they took in nature’s song while they watched the distant river flow, December’s animals play, and the pink petals that wafted over from the cherry blossoms around town dancing in the breeze. They were cozy like this, but more importantly, they were cozy together.

Title: Like Fine Wine
Fandom: Fields of Mistria
Pairing(s): Terithia/Landen/Errol
Word count: 3377
Warnings: Implied Sexual Content
Summary: Terithia didn’t know how it happened, but she somehow managed to fall in love with both of her best friends at the same time. As she struggles to come to terms with her conflicting feelings, she meets Landen and Errol for dinner and drinks, where the tension finally reaches a breaking point…between all three of them.
It had been an average spring day in Mistria for Terithia. Up before the sun, she scarfed down a quick breakfast of canned sardines before heading off to do some river fishing until noon. She stopped by the inn for a hearty lunch and made her way to the beach in the afternoon to hopefully fish up something special for dinner tonight, for she would not be dining alone.
Meeting with Errol and Landen for dinner on a regular basis was nothing new for Terithia. They were best friends after all, and had been ever since she moved to town and they all hit it off right away. Theirs was a treasured relationship that she’d never had with anyone else before.
Terithia’s ocean fishing turned out to be a rousing success, and she quickly made her way home with a basket full of fresh mackerel. Errol liked them grilled, she knew for a fact, and Landen also happened to be a fan. She breezed through the messy cleaning part of the process, and in no time at all, she had three mackerel fillets grilling to perfection, filling her house with a delicious aroma.
Normally she wouldn’t bother cooking her own fish, preferring to take her catch to the inn and have it cooked up there. Her company tonight, however, made her want to pull out all the stops herself, and it wasn’t just because Errol and Landen were her best friends…
It was also because she was in love...with both of them.
Terithia winced as the knife she was using to cut up vegetables slipped from her grasp, coming dangerously close to slicing her fingers open. Biting her lip, she took in a calming breath, letting it out slowly before resuming her dinner preparations. She couldn’t pinpoint exactly when she had fallen in love with Errol and Landen, but what she did know was that it was getting harder and harder to keep her feelings to herself as time went on.
Hiding them seemed like her only option, however. Terithia was held back by the fact that she had no damn clue if either man saw her in a romantic way, and she sure as hell didn’t want to potentially jeopardize their friendship by expressing feelings that wouldn’t be reciprocated; Terithia knew that would make things incredibly awkward, for her at least.
So for now, Terithia had to bite her tongue and endure Landen’s suave and playful teasing, or Errol’s endearing lectures about any new museum donations and his heaping praise whenever Terithia told him about her successful fishing ventures. That was far easier said than done...
When she had finished cooking and set three places at her dinner table, a broad smile crossed Terithia’s face when she heard a loud series of knocks. She made her way to the door, slow enough so that she could fluff up her hair and push her bangs out of her face, and she opened it to find her favorite people in the world.
“Evening, Terithia!” Landen said, winking as he stepped inside with Errol just behind him. “Whew, I’m glad we made it before the storm started back up!”
Errol nodded in agreement. “We were rather lucky. The rain stopped just long enough for us to get here.”
“Heh, that is lucky!” Terithia beamed as she shut the door, trying and failing to calm her rapidly-beating heart as the three went over to the dining table. “But, it did allow me to fish up tonight’s dinner, so I can’t say the rain’s all bad, kya ha ha!”
The way Landen was smiling at her gave Terithia pause, and she could only hope that she looked away in time to hide the flush in her cheeks. Errol chuckled, which was an incredibly pleasant sound that never failed to make Terithia’s heart skip a beat. He set the bag he had been carrying on the table and reached inside.
“I baked up a hefty helping of sweetroot. That new farmer’s got quite a knack for finding them,” Errol said, and Landen laughed and slapped a hand to his back.
“Ha! That really takes me back!” he said, slapping his other hand to Terithia’s shoulder and giving it a squeeze. “Remember when we used to roast up the sweetroot that Errol brought back from the mines? Those were some great times.”
“They sure were.” Terithia couldn’t help but smile when the memories came flooding back to her, but she frowned when Landen removed his hand from her shoulder.
Setting his own bag on the table next to Errol’s, Landen pulled two large bottles out of it. “This wine is my contribution tonight. Balor got a hold of a nice vintage, and at a discount too!”
“Nice! Sometimes I wonder how Balor can afford to do that kinda thing.”
“You’re not the only one. Nora’s been trying to get him to spill his secret for ages now,” Errol said, causing Terithia to bark out a laugh.
“Kya ha ha! She’d have an easier time trying to get Holt to quit it with the puns, or getting March to be nice to the new farmer.”
Errol and Landen laughed along with her, and they all settled into their routine dinner. The mackerel was good, but Terithia new that Jo or Reina would have done a better job cooking it. That fact didn’t stop Landen and Errol from gushing about how delicious it was, and Terithia hoped that the blush that rose upon her cheeks wasn’t too obvious.
As they ate, the trio fell into a familiar pattern of pleasant conversation. Terithia regaled the men with how her day of fishing went, while Landen showed off some new furniture concept sketches, which he quickly confirmed to be strictly for fun and Ryis’ training when Terithia reminded him that he was supposed to be retired.
Errol proudly talked about how well the museum was doing, especially since the new farmer started donating the various specimens and artifacts that they came across. It warmed Terithia’s heart to see how happy they both were, but a pit of longing formed deep inside her gut; she wished that they could do this kind of thing every single night.
After they had finished their dinner and dessert, Terithia found herself lounging on the couch in between Errol and Landen, and the latter smiled as he held up a half empty bottle of wine.
“Another glass?”
Terithia gave him a vigorous nod. “Well, sure!”
“Yes, please,” Errol said, and Landen was quick to fill all three of their glasses.
“Cheers, to treasured friends,” Landen said as he held up his glass.
“To treasured friends!”
The word ‘friends’ hung heavy in the air, and Terithia couldn’t stop a slight frown from crossing her lips as she took a sip of her wine. Sure, she wouldn’t trade her friendship with Landen and Errol for the world, but that didn’t stop her from hoping that it would grow into something more...
Terithia was glad that the wine was so good, as that helped to distract her from her negative thoughts. Letting out a content sigh and licking her lips, she said, “Ah, delicious! And aged to perfection, as the fancy folk would day, kya ha ha!”
“If you’ll let me be so bold,” Landen said, a mischievous glint appearing in his eyes as he swirled his glass, “you’ve sure aged like fine wine, Terithia.”
“I wholeheartedly agree,” Errol was quick to add, and Terithia barely managed to keep herself from choking on her drink. Damn it, it was comments like that that made it so hard for Terithia to keep her mouth shut about her feelings. If they kept this up...
Terithia cleared her throat before letting out a half-hearted chuckle. “Well, that goes double for you two then.” They both offered up some light laughter as well, but when it faded a heavy, awkward tension settled upon the room, like fog suddenly rolling in from the sea in the wee hours of the morning.
Swallowing thickly, Terithia cast a sidelong glance at Landen, who was staring so intensely at his glass that she thought he might burn a hole in it. She then looked at Errol, who had gone a bit pale in the face; she hoped that her dinner hadn’t made him sick...
Terithia stared down at her hands, suddenly feeling very self-conscious. What if Landen and Errol had figured out that she loved them? Maybe they were so quiet because they were thinking about how to let her down easy? The very thought made Terithia’s heart sink into her stomach, but she gave her head a quick shake and grit her teeth. No, that couldn’t be it...but she would never know if she never asked. She knew what she needed to do now.
“Is something wrong, Terithia?”
Landen’s concerned voice snapped Terithia from her thoughts, and she chewed on her bottom lip and leaned back against the couch. “No, it’s just...got a lot on my mind.”
Errol crossed his arms over his chest, his dark eyes locking with hers. “Do you need to talk about it? We’re all ears.”
‘Here we go...It’s now or never.’
Downing the rest of her wine and setting the empty glass onto the coffee table, Terithia took a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever happened after she asked the two men seated next to her a question:
“So...this might be - ah, no, it is - a weird question, but...” She felt her face heat up when both Errol and Landen turned to face her fully with eyebrows raised.
“Have either of you ever...been in love with more than one person, at the same time?” She winced, preparing herself for their inevitable laughter at such a ridiculous notion, but it did not come.
Instead, Landen shot up straight as an arrow, and Errol choked a bit as he spit out the wine that he had been trying to drink. Terithia blinked, confused, as she gave Errol a few firm smacks on the back to clear his airway.
“Er, ahem...” Landen said when Errol had recovered, and he averted his gaze as he rubbed at the back of his neck. “Funny you should ask, because my answer...is yes.”
“...M-Mine too, actually.” Errol’s cheeks had gone pink, and Terithia had to pick her jaw up off of the floor as she looked between the two as if they both had grown a second head.
“You...oh, u-uh...” Terithia fumbled over her words, and it took a moment for her to force out a coherent sentence. “I-I see, and do any of those feelings still...linger?”
To her immense surprise, both men nodded in response, Errol’s face flushing red while Landen cleared his throat, and Terithia swallowed thickly before asking her next - and most important - question:
“...and are either of those people in this room right now?”
“Yeah, both of them.”
“It’s the same for me.”
Terithia smacked her hands against her thighs and squeezed hard to keep herself from squealing like an infatuated schoolgirl whose crush had just asked her to attend the Spring Festival with them (she would have never lived that down.) The wave of relief that swept over her threatened to knock her right off the couch, but she managed to collapse against the back instead.
“So, you two are telling me that you’ve been in love with me - and each other - and me with you, and we’ve all been keeping it to ourselves because...?”
“I wasn’t sure if either of you felt the same way, and I didn’t want to muck up our friendship if I was wrong,” Landen said as he tugged at his collar with a rare, shy smile on his face.
Errol averted his gaze and scratched at his beard. “I...was just really nervous.”
Looking between the two of them, Terithia barely managed to hold back a laugh. Well, she felt incredibly foolish now for keeping her feelings all bottled up like that, but the overwhelming happiness that swept over her entire being in this moment was quick to eclipse anything else.
Terithia sighed and dragged her hand down her face. “Well, don’t do that again. I’m too damn old to be fretting that much.” She decided to pretend that she hadn’t also put off confessing her feelings for way too damn long.
That mischievous glint reappeared in Landen’s eyes, and he reached out to take Terithia’s hand. “I don’t know about that. Like we said before, you’ve aged quite well, right Errol?”
Errol smiled and shared a knowing glance with Landen, before they both leaned over to place a kiss on Terithia’s cheeks, causing her heart to race and face to flush with heat.
“Mmm, like fine wine indeed...” Landen whispered, his lips brushing against Terithia’s skin as he spoke, causing a shiver to run down her spine.
Errol chuckled, and the deep, rumbling vibration made his lips tickle her skin, and he managed to coax a light laugh out of her.
“The finest.”
Well, this was certainly going to take some getting used to, and Terithia could barely hear herself think over the roaring of her heartbeat in her ears. Her face felt hot and stayed that way, even when Landen and Errol finally pulled away.
“You two sure are laying it on thick,” Terithia said with a chuckle, and she gasped when Landen’s hand cupped her cheek, making her turn her head to look at him.
“Not thick enough for me, I’m afraid.” Landen’s voice had dropped low, and his face had moved dangerously close to hers. Terithia’s breath caught in her throat at the intense look in his pretty brown eyes, and she thought her heart was going to burst from her chest when he leaned in to press their lips together in a soft, tender kiss.
Terithia had her fair share of first kisses in her life, but none could hold a candle to just how right this one felt...but she had a feeling that her next one would be just as unforgettable.
Landen pulled away first, and he lifted her hand to his face to place a kiss on the back of it, causing Terithia’s heart to skip a beat. His gaze moved to the man sitting at her other side, and she turned around to face Errol, who was watching her and Landen with a deep fondness in his eyes, as if he was looking at the most precious of treasures. Terithia smiled and reached up to cup his face, her fingers settling in his soft beard. She wasted no time and pulled him close, causing him to let out a startled ‘oh!’
“Your turn,” Terithia whispered, her lips lightly grazing his as she spoke, and she kissed him before giving him a chance to respond. He seemed a bit stunned, but he made a swift recovery and cupped Terithia’s face, tilting her head so that he could deepen the kiss. Oh yes, she was very right; this kiss was just as incredible.
When they parted, Terithia felt light-headed in the best way possible. She had finally kissed the men that she had harbored so much love for, and it was a moment that she would never, ever forget.
A cheeky smile crossed her face and she leaned against the couch again, looking back and forth between Landen and Errol, who were suddenly acting quite bashful. Rolling her eyes, Terithia leaned back further against the couch and reached out to grab both of their hands.
“C’mon, don’t be shy now. You two still have to seal the deal,” she teased, tugging them towards each other. She laughed when Errol’s face somehow flushed a darker shade of red and Landen sputtered; Terithia didn’t think she’d ever seen the latter look so flustered.
Landen smiled fondly and reached out with his free hand to take Errol’s. “Heh, sorry Errol. I thought I could keep my cool for a bit longer, but...finding out I’m loved by not one but two incredible people is a bit overwhelming, even for me.”
Errol averted his gaze for a moment, and he gave Landen’s hand a gentle squeeze when he looked back at him. “I...feel the same way. It is quite a...surreal feeling, actually.”
“Yeah.”
“Y-Yeah...”
“Get on with it!” Terithia said, rolling her eyes and giving both of their hands a few quick squeezes each.
“You’re a bit too excited for thi-” Landen started, but he found it hard to continue speaking with Errol’s lips pressed against his. His startled noise was muffled by the kiss, and Terithia watched the intimate moment with an overwhelming look of adoration in her eyes. She never imagined that this routine dinner of theirs would turn out quite like this, but Terithia was so glad it did.
When Errol and Landen pulled away from each other, both breathless and with a sparkle in their eyes, Terithia slipped her arms behind both of their backs and pulled them flush against her. Landen chuckled and wrapped his arm around her waist as he nuzzled his cheek against hers, while Errol leaned down to place a kiss against her temple.
“Errol, Landen…I love you,” Terithia said as her arms tightened around them, “and I’m really damn happy that I can finally say that out loud.” All three of them chuckled at that, and Landen brushed his lips against Terithia’s cheek before lifting Errol’s hand to his face and kissing his knuckles.
“I love you both too,” Landen said with a wink. “Can’t say that I’ve ever felt this strongly about anyone else before either.”
Errol wrapped his arms around both of them, pulling them even closer together before he placed a kiss onto both of their foreheads. “And I love you two as well, with all that I am.”
There was no trace of the awkward tension that had filled the room before, and all that was left in its wake was a comfortable, secure feeling that could only come from being cuddled up to the two men that Terithia loved more than anyone else. She let out a content sigh, feeling herself practically melt into their embrace, until she was startled by a loud crack of thunder.
“Oh my,” Errol said, rubbing his chin as he looked out the window. “It seems that the storm has returned, and with a vengeance.”
“Ah, listen to that pattering rain on the roof!” Landen said, closing his eyes as he leaned his head against Terithia’s shoulder. “Like music you could dance to!”
Terithia laughed at that, and she hummed thoughtfully as a sly grin crossed her face. “Looks like it might storm all night long. You two better stay here tonight.”
Landen raised an eyebrow at her, before throwing his arm over her shoulder and gently traced her jawline with his finger. “You say that as if we weren’t already planning on staying.”
“I agree.”
Terithia felt a heat begin to stir within her gut, and she twisted herself so that her legs were thrown over Landen’s lap, while she leaned back and rest her head on Errol’s thighs.
“You know…it’s pretty rude to just assume that you can stay overnight at someone’s place,” she said, and she shivered when Landen ran a languid hand over her thigh and chuckled.
“Hmm, well, I’m sure Errol and I can find some way to make it up to you, right?” Landen shared a sultry glance with the larger man, who brought a hand to his face and cleared his throat.
“Yes, I’m sure we can think of something that would be quite beneficial…for all of us,” Errol said, his voice dropping low enough to almost resemble a growl, and that sent another shiver down Terithia’s spine.
“Let’s get on with it then.” Terithia didn’t have to ask twice, and it didn’t take long at all for the three best friends turned lovers to lose themselves completely in each other…
When Terithia woke up the next morning - blissfully happy, sore in all the right places, and wedged rather snugly between Landen and Errol - one thought and one thought alone crossed her mind:
‘I need to get a bigger bed...’

something i haven't seen wrt FoM feedback is the character writing and dialogue. there's a lot of it, and they can react differently if you give certain items, seen certain dialogue, experienced different events, etc. which makes it really fun to talk with them several times over the course of an in-game day.
i think it's also nice that they have preexisting relationships with each other. i think it would be even better if there was more conflict, goals, and distinguishing characteristics between them to allow them to develop as characters.
1. dialogue
it's a little difficult since many characters have similar backgrounds and therefore speaking styles, but i think the character voice could be improved by varying sentence length, word choice, structure, and topic. otherwise, many of the characters talk very similarly--very articulate, forward, and kind. if i take away the speaker, can you distinguish who's speaking which lines?
You're so busy, and you still find time to be this thoughtful! Thank you, [player].
Adeline was originally suspicious of me, but she let me stick around. Guess I have my uses!
This gift is wasted on me, [player]. But maybe I can pass it on.
I like to drop by the General Store on Friday before everyone starts gathering!
Early mornings are my least favorite time in Mistria. Everyone's so... cheery. Like they're about to break into song.
the answers are: Adeline, Balor, Valen, Reina, and Juniper.
it was probably easier to narrow down the last one to either March or Juniper, right? and i think that adds to their popularity--they're distinguishable from the other characters in that they're ruder and less cheerful. they talk about you or others more than they talk about themselves.
that being said, i'm not saying dialogue quirks is what needs to be added. we already have holt, dell, maple, and luc.
each piece of dialogue should say something about the character themselves. whether that is their outlook on life, their aspirations, etc., and every character should have something different about them. they can be cheerful--i think that's a charm of Mistria, where it's so safe and trusting that celine keeps her door unlocked so that juniper and the player can barge in to ask for help--but emphasize different parts of the cheer.
is adeline more optimistic than everyone else? is balor more persistent in his beliefs? does this translate to shorter, and more casual dialogue for balor because he's preserving his out-of-town accent?
does valen have higher standards for you? is her dialogue full of more jargon and prose than adeline because she believes you also share her language?
is reina confident in her organization and time keeping? does she talk as if she's giving you advice because everyone could use a little help in time management?
2. progression
i think seeing character development as you gain hearts with the characters would make it more rewarding to talk with them every day. we have mini "plot lines" that follow them (Balor getting more into D&D, Juniper and Terithia speculating about the townsfolk), and i think there could be more "subplots" to add to the excitement of a new day. for example,
could Adeline be so focused on running the town that she doesn't realize that Eiland would actually prefer spending all his time at the dig site instead? do you get to encourage her to put Eiland on more hands-on tasks instead of paperwork?
is ryis struggling to get noticed as a maturing carpenter in his own right? does landen ask for your help to promote ryis and officially retire?
it could be rewarding to see ryis or another character achieve their goals because you helped them, or even saw a different villager help them. it's nice that you could see them grow and change because you had taken the time to build that relationship.
3. heart events
i would also like to see heart events for non-romanceable characters because i think it would add more life to the town. since this is early access, i assume they're still in-progress.
#im a couple hours in (mid summer) but these are my current thoughts#forgive me if some of these are addressed at higher heart levels#and if so#i think emphasizing or showing them earlier on would greatly add to the experience#fields of mistria#feedback#i'll probably submit it since it's early access but thought i'd post it to reflect on it better

- studententeams: Solar team, Storm, Fast, Casa, Solid, VIRTUe, URE, InMotion - onderzoeksinstituten: Solliance, FOM, Holst, TU/e, Tilburg University en TiREG (laatste twee betreffen sociaal-maatschappelijke aspecten) - energieopslag: HoCoSto, Ecovat, Scholt Energy - zonne-energie: Kameleon Solar, Solarge, Lusoco - windenergie: PowerNest - campussen: automotive campus, SPARK, Green Chemistry Campus - ontwerp/vormgeving: Studio Solarix, NBArchitecten

First of all, Getting Fields of Mistria was one of the best purchase i ever did (after sdv haha) so thanks for the influence!
I just saw your Biland posting and I literally screamed because i thought I will be the only who see that!! I hopped on the train haha
Just like i hopped on the Maryis train, like hello they’re made for each other, how am i supposed to romance either of them??
THEA ♥️♥️ I just want to pick up all the Sambastian girls and drop them into this game we are having a field day shipping NPCs over here lmao
Biland is so good, but props to you for seeing it fr bc I had to see fanart to really conceptualize it. And Im so glad you agreed with my interpretation for them!
Honestly I could see Balor with anyone. He's my bicycle for this town lmao. But for me this was similar to my revelation re: Elliott and Sebastian where its like... why don't I take my two favorite boys and make them kiss?? Why not?? I like Sambastian best as a cute pairing that make sense, but SebElliott is just hot lol.
In regards to FOM, I initially got the game because of Eiland. I saw fanart and could not resist, but as I played the game I was like oh no this man is in no way heterosexual lmao. I just kinda left it at that and pursued Balor UNTILLL putting the pieces together with this one.
Maryis and Vaniper I can totally get behind. I feel no particular attachment to keeping any of them to myself. And speaking of ships can we talk about THIS???
When she said that I was like whhaaat is going on in this town lmao its the best time. I can't wait to see what you come up with now that you have fallen prey to the Fields lol
Sidenote if anyone wants to ship Eiland with a female character or farmer, that is none of my business, do you, but I was not feeling it personally lol
