Btw I will forever be raving about what they did to Lance because he did not go through all that character development only to be disregarded as soon as his love arc was over in this essay I will-

LMAOOOO NO FR I think it’s funny to have the HC that Keith had a tiny crush on James during Garrison times and like. I’m a klance shipper so he’s gonna. Have some sort of attraction to Lance too and I’m like “uhhhh 🤨🤨🤨 are you seeing what I’m seeing??”
Looking at jaith and klance i think keith has a type
#the reason I don’t ship jaith that much is because#the fucking klance brainrot has been here since late October 2022 because I saw the damn sunset scene as the little preview vid#and#I think that’s it 💀💀#also there’s not much to go off but otherwise I guess it’s kinda cute!!#yeah so like. ermmmmm I guess komohine fed me jaith food#thank you komohine 🙏🙏#but you can take the man out of the klance but you can’t take the klance out of the man!!#ima word vomit in the tags rq#uhhh considering that jaith has little scenes together in canon it is up to the audience to make up their own story#but that’s ok because it does have potential to be something great#I think#idk what I’m doing hdidksospeoej#I think James has definitely matured since uhhh… his ass getting beat by Keith#so of you were going to make them at each other’s throats when they were younger you could very well make them like reconcile#and then they end up making out HAHAHAHAHA#ok idk wtf I’m doing anymore so I’m going to normal tag!!#voltron#vld#klance#jaith#lance mcclain#keith kogane#james griffin#voltron legendary defender#but I actually love komohine’s art it is so lovely#🔥🔥🔥🔥#AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Inspired by @mdoodlerfandomart 's Coalition Lance AU.
~~~
The Voltron team was in a somber mood as they made their way back to Earth. Pidge a bit less so, because she was so looking forward to seeing her mom and dad, but even that only served to remind her that one of their own wouldn't be coming home to his family. The Voltron team had a Lance shapped hole in their ranks and everyone was feeling his absence.
Coran missed the incesant chatter from the coms which Lance had usually initiated, and Allura missed their gossip beauty sessions. Shiro had an immense amount of guilt over Lance's capture, despite technically not having been there when it happened. He contantly wondered if his clone had somehow set Lance up in an ambush, and hated that his memories of that time were disjointed and blurry at best.
Pidge busied herself by radioing every ship and planet within distance to ask if they had seen a man, tall, brown skin and blue eyed, but everyone she could get in contact with said no. (On the plus side of this process, though, they did discover that the Coalition seemed to be in good hands, so that was a relief, at least.)
Hunk kept a small notebook where he drafter hundreds, if not thousands, of ways in which he might have to break the news to Lance's family that their son, brother, cousin, uncle, etc., was MIA, likely presumed dead. None of them were completed because Hunk inevitably broke down in tears every time before he could finish any of them.
And Keith... well, Keith kept holding onto hope that Lance was alive, somewhere in the wide universe. He simply refused to believe that Lance was dead. The team kept telling him he was in denial, but it was the only thing that kept him going. Otherwise he didn't think he'd be able to function. He often played with one of Lance's necklaces that Keith now wore and wondered about his whereabouts.
If he was in a good mood, Lance had escaped to a planet of peaceful aliens and awaited rescue. It was his greatest, most indulgent daydream that they defeated the Galra once and for all and Keith led a rescue mission to find Lance, found him and brought him home. However, if he was in a bad mood, he tended to imagine progressively worse case scenarios that left him on the verge of a panic attack and spiralling. It was the uncertainity that got to him and wore him down.
As the Earth finally appeared in front of them, Red and Blue picked up speed and went ahead of the rest to spearhead the formation. It was a bit unusual, but the Paladins didn't have the energy to question it. There were a lot of mixed emotions in the group and they were absolutely exhausted in every way that mattered. The comms were quiet. Each Paladin was lost in their thoughts, and their missing Paladin weighed heavily in their minds.
Suddenly, as they entered the Earth's athmosphere, the comms began to crackle.
"Earth to Voltron, do you copy?"
Every single one of the Paladins startled in their seat and their eyes widened in disbelief. They turned on their comms and cameras. They all looked at each other as if they had seen a ghost. Hunk was the first to break the silence.
"Was that...?"
"Earth to Voltron, do you copy?" the voice repeated and this time Keith yanked the radio out of its base as his heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest.
"Lance?! Voltron to Earth, we copy. Lance, is that you?!" Keith yells into the receiver.
"Keith?! Oh my gosh, you're alive!" Lance exclaimed on the other side.
"What do you mean I'm alive? You're alive!" Keith retorted and he couldn't help the smile on his face or the tears in his eyes.
Just then they received a notification of an incoming live transmission that Pidge immediately accepted. A new screen popped up in front of them and there he was, alive and breathing, the one and only, Lance McClain.
On the screen, he laughed incredulously as he wiped at his eyes and said, "Hey guys, it's been a while."
What followed was chaos: everyone began talking at the same time, raising their voices to be heard above the others, and asked all sorts of questions wanting to know how Lance ended up on Earth, how he escaped the Galra, was he okay, he he seen their families, were they okay and the cockpit descended into pandemonium as Lance valiantly attempted to answer all of them.
Keith, however, was quietly taking in and just looking at his boyfriend after years of holoscreens and memories. Lance was no longer a lanky, awkward teen. He'd filled out: his shoulders broadened and, while still thin, he seemed to have gained a lot of muscle. His face had sharpened and Keith could see a bit of stubble on his chin and cheeks. He had a few new scars, too. He was also wearing a Garrison unifform, with a few medals in it.
"Keith?" Lance asked, and Keith realized he'd just missed most of the conversation. Keith smiled.
"Hey, sharpshooter," he replied. Lance sent him a flirty smirk in return.
"What? Did you miss me?"
"You have no idea," Keith answered and didn't care if he was being sappy in front of the Paladins and however many people were in the command center. Lance chucked wetly and his gaze softened.
"We're ready for you to land. Unfortunately, our hangars aren't anywhere near large enough for the lions, but there's an open field right outside. Crew members will be waiting for you in their vehicles to bring you to base. There are some people here who can't wait to see you guys!"
Keith raised an eyebrow. Lance looked, and sounded, so mature... so professional. It was hard to believe he was the same goofball he fell in love with.
"How come you're at the helm?" he asked. Lance smirked, but it was Pidge who answered.
"If you hadn't been so busy making oogly eyes at him, you would have heard that he's the head of the coalition. You know, the one we've hearing about," she snarked with a shit-eating grin on her face.
"Wait, for real?!" Keith exclaimed.
Lance gasped and grabbed his chest in a wounded gesture, "You heathen! Can you sound a little less surprised? Do you really have so little faith in me? You wound me!"
Someone out of shot of camera in the command center said something to Lance that the Paladins didn't manage to catch. Lance's reaction, though, was telling enough. He scoffed in mock offense and replied, "You take that back!"
Keith laughed. It was nice to see his Lance in this new, grown version of him. He asked, "How did that even happen?"
Lance scoffed again and rolled his eyes, "Again, it's a very long story and I don't want to clutter the frequency. You're welcome to come for dinner at mine's and I'll tell you all about it." Lance winked.
"Fine," Keith relented.
"Transmission over," Lance said and his screen disappeared. Only then did Keith pay attention to the looks of awe and joy in the rest of the Paladins. Hunk was even openly crying and babbling about how glad he was that Lance was okay. Keith felt the same.
It was as if a stone had been lifted off of his chest and now he could breathe! Liquid fire poured through his veins and, for the first time in a long while, he felt like he could battle a hundred cruiseships and win! Red purred in his mind, and Keith was transported back to the very first time he flew red, before the war and their losses had worn down his excitment and passion for flying a sentinent lion in space. He smirked.
"Race you," he said, and sped down towards the Earth at full speed. Red happily obliged.
"You cheat!" Pidge yelled and gave chess.
Hunk followed with an indignant, "Hey!"
Allura, Shiro and Coran laughed joyously and tried to catch up.
Keith didn't care all that much, to be honest. He had a very pressing reunion to get to, after all.
~~~
I hope you liked it! It's just a scene, and it doesn't encompass a lot of events but I wanted to focus on the characters. I'd like to explore other scenes, perhaps later, from Lance's POV on Earth or maybe Keith's POV when he first finds out Lance is missing until they exit the time dilation worm hole thingy.
Let me know what you think!✌🏼

Julance Week One: Broadsword/Youth
I've decided I'll follow @callmelyc's Julance prompts! HI LYC i missed you lots <3 Please give Lyc lots of love and consider following their prompts too!
--
A broadsword. Lance stared blankly down at the weapon he held, red and white, gleaming under the harsh training deck lights. Its weight in his hands was unfamiliar, and yet, somehow felt right in a way he loathed. The sword had manifested seemingly at random-- one second, he'd been shooting at bots in the training room, satisfied with the way they dropped at his feet.
"Fuck yeah," he muttered under his breath as another clang sounded. The blue holographic screen lit up with a happy 'ding,' signifying another slain foe. He whipped around to face the next batch, no hesitation present in any of his movements as he dodged, shot, dodged, kicked out, moved faster, sharper, panting for breath.
So the sword shouldn’t have had any reason to appear! Really, it was all a misunderstanding. As the training drones closed in on him, their little propellers whirring in violent chirps, Lance had only barely conjured the idea for a split second. It wasn’t even a thing! Lance had been standing there, face flushed, sweat trickling down the back of his neck, his trigger finger aching. The idea came from an exhausted daze.
Man, he inwardly lamented, eyes focused on the drones closing in. I wish Keith was here.
Boom. Sword. Lance slashed through the clump of bots without pause until the program had run its course.
That thought had been purely utilitarian, of course. First of all, Keith was with the Blade, and was doing much better there! Obviously he couldn’t actually have Keith’s help in a stupid fucking training exercise. It was just that the robots seemed to get in too close for his weapon to be really effective, it being a rifle and all. He hadn’t expected anyone to be listening to his stupid wandering mind and its stupid wandering fixation on a stupid, wandering, mulleted asshole.
He should have known better. Everything about space had been freaky and magical, so why couldn’t his own goddamn gun have a brain?
Lance let out a small, quiet sigh, watching the way his wrist rotated the sword around in a move that he’d seen plenty of times between urgent missions. Rotate in. Rotate out. The tip of the blade formed little infinities in the air, while the flat of it reflected his lost expression back to him. His eyes were half-lidded and his teeth were gritted.
Lance McClain truly couldn’t have one goddamn thing of his own, could he? Doomed to have Keith’s leftovers for the rest of his life, Lance couldn’t help but draw up images of this exact moment happening fifty times before.
A starry-eyed kid who only got to be an attack pilot after a dropout punched a commander. A throwaway paladin who only assumed the red lion once the original pilot had left for brighter things. And now this.
Being the youngest in a large family meant he was no stranger to hand-me-downs, but Keith Kogane’s always left a bitter taste in his mouth. Like he was almost strong, almost talented, chasing after a perfect Grecian champion he’d never catch.
Keith always left him behind with some nagging reminder of his existence, of the fact that Lance could try as hard as he wanted and still never quite meet his standard.
The sword fell to the ground, transforming back into a bayard. Its clatter echoed off of sterile walls with resonating finality. Lance didn’t spare it another glance as he walked out of the training deck.
He was tired of running after an apparition.

nobody asked but here is my pitch for a princess and the pauper klance au
Princess Allura of Altea generally likes her life. She lives in a palace with her father, King Alfor, her quirky tutor and longtime friend Coran, and her lady-in-waiting Romelle who she definitely is not in love with. Don't worry about it.
Her being totally not in love with Romelle is something to not worry about at all because actually, as of fairly recently, Allura is engaged! To a man (ew) she's never met (double ew): Prince Keith of Marmora. Their matrimony is to solidify an alliance between Altea and Marmora which, if everyone's being honest, is mostly to haul Altea out of its recent troubles. The kingdom is floundering and its people have been suffering for too long; this alliance with Marmora offers a fresh start and a royal wedding promotes economic stimulation, etc etc politics politics
Allura loves her people and her father so she's gonna suck it up and do this. But she can't and won't be jazzed about it all the time. Sometimes she wishes she could be anyone but herself, with the freedom to make selfish choices.
Anyway down in the town there is this boy named Lance McClain and he just so happens to have a vaguely similar facial structure to Altea's princess (rip this has to be a blue-eyed Lance story to work, huh) and he works at the dress emporium under Monsieur Iverson who is, frankly, an abusive boss. But Iverson is funding Lance's sister's education. The McClains need this, and so Lance pricks his fingers and works every waking hour for pennies that he never even gets to see. Lance loves his family so he's gonna do it but he can't and won't be jazzed about it all the time. Sometimes he wishes he could be anyone but himself, with the freedom to make selfish choices.
do u feel me on this guys
also Allura has five cats named Onyx, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire, and Topaz and she loves them very much. But Sapphire has been acting strange recently...
Lance has this cat that he calls Blue that he doesn't actually have but she shows up night after night at his window and he feeds her and she lays on his lap while he works and he loves her very much
......it's the same cat *hold for applause*
anyway Romelle takes Allura into town to "run errands" or something but really it's just a date and one of Allura's last tastes of freedom before she gets hitched to whoever this Keith dude is
and Sapphire slips away and dashes through the streets and Allura chases her down and finds her perched on a windowsill in an alley being fed by a stranger who looks a little familiar and oh--
Lance and Allura finally meet and look at each other and are like woah we could definitely be siblings genetics are so weird
Bonded by their shared cat they get along splendidly and have a nice and surprisingly deep talk about their respective plights, and Allura promises to call on Lance soon
The next morning Coran and Romelle go to the princess only to find her bed empty save for a note that says she's taken the cats and run away...
The note is sus and then Sapphire shows up (from spending the night at Lance's.) Coran and Romelle know Allura would never leave just Sapphire behind, so they're immediately Not Buying It but they don't know who they can trust, and also this is a disaster because Prince Keith and his entourage are literally coming to visit today so they need to fix this asap
Romelle remembers the boy from the village who looked weirdly like Allura and she has the best/worst idea of all time...
Cue "To Be A Princess" as performed by Coran and Romelle at Lance, who by the end of the song is unclockable he's so good at princess cosplay
When "Allura" appears at dinner as scheduled, Alfor's advisor Zarkon and his shitty son Lotor are shook but they stay quiet
you guys lotor as preminger is so funny pLEASE
AND THEN KEITH SHOWS UP
Keith and his diplomat friends, The Holts, and his captain of the guard Shiro, pull up to dinner to meet Keith's future wife
Keith's a gay man he's not thrilled about this. She's certainly a handsome woman, if her portraits are to be believed, but there's nothing to be done about it. Lifelong bummer for Keith. Such is princedom.
So Keith and co. show up in Altea and they meet the princess and Keith swears she's a little broader in the shoulders and sharper in the jaw than he'd expected but chalks it up to shitty portraiture. He'll hire the court painter from Marmora when they're married.
Lance in his princess costume is like "oh lord he's fine" but then they go on a bunch of weird dates and mostly bicker a bunch because Keith hates that he's forced to be here and Lance is just sort of like that
meanwhile Allura's like busting her own ass out of the mines and lotor sings how can i refuse *hold for standing ovation*
and since Sapphire didn't get kidnapped with the other cats she's still around and Lance talks to her in the bath and is generally just being silly goofy and Keith happens to walk by and hear Lance talking in his normal tone to somebody named "Blue" and the door happens to be a little open and Keith happens to peek--he doesn't even know why he literally doesn't even like women--and wait just a fucking second that is a boy and a wig on the floor and Keith to himself is like 'um should i complain about being lied to, something wack is going on here' and then he's like 'wait I'm gay and he's hot let's see how this plays out' and says nothing LMAO
but then their little dates get way more interesting because Keith is trying to tease out this secret and also is like,, actually interested
maybe they do a horseback riding date where Lance gets to wear pants and have the big platinum wig tied back and he feels a little more like himself and he and Keith hardly even bicker anymore they just sort of have a great time together and Lance feels a little insane for this whole thing but he really likes him but he has to tell him the truth and he's literally about to admit it
but then Lotor comes back from checking on Allura in the mines and knows the princess at the palace is a fake so he calls Lance out and rips the wig off, the whole thing, and Lance is thrown in the dungeon when moments ago he was literally a hair's breadth away from kissing Keith on the mouth UGH life is so cruel
Lotor and Zarkon convince Alfor that Allura is dead and they plot to strike and stage their coup during her funeral or something idk
But meanwhile Romelle and Allura and the cats are power-lesbianing their way out of the mines, and meanwhile meanwhile Keith busts Lance out of jail and they go also to the mines to try to save Allura
just four gays and their cats standing at the mines like ok what now
they bust into the funeral proceedings and wreck Lotor's shit, Allura definitely throws him over her shoulder and skips him like a rock and they explain everything to Alfor
Lotor and Zarkon go to jail and Altea is saved even without the marriage alliance because Allura and Romelle found extra stores of quintessence locked in the geodes in the mines or whatever
Lance is now so thoroughly sponsored by not one but two royal families that his family will want for nothing ever again--his siblings are put on royal scholarship to any school of their choosing in either Altea or Marmora. Lance himself has always wanted to travel, so he does, and he writes letters to Keith the whole time and when he returns Keith is waiting for him and they do a big gay double wedding with Allura and Romelle just like in the Barbie movie <3
the end
#THIS ONE GOT AWAY FROM ME YALL#i think i cooked#somebody tell me this isnt perfect#oh wait u cant#klance#klance ficlet#sort of#my writing#princess and the pauper au#like am i nuts for this#maybe#vld au#i just think this has all the pieces#lance and allura as besties#allura and keith as disaster gays#klance spiced with mistaken identities#chefs kiss

Hi people, so I'm back in the brainrot fandom known as Transformers Prime (Tfp). .. I'm also up for crossovers.
As such I present to you: Jackson 'Jack' Darby as Lance McClain, Blue Paladin of Voltron AU.
After the Autobots returned to Cybertron, Jack tries to retain that sense of Space and adventure, yearning to meet them again. Agent Walter gets him into the Garrison, requiring a fake ID if he doesn't want them to realise he's a special case - which he doesn't want. Though he wonders how Iverson would react to knowing his background when 'the only reason he was admitted into fighter jet was because the best pilot in their class had a disciplinary issue and flunked out'. Yes, he's got the line down pat, the man says it often enough.
He thought the alien war had ended with the Autobots and Deceptions; apparently he was mistaken. Where before it was cybertronic life forms fighting over resources (mostly), there was a civil war that dragged out against what was effectively furrys, the Galra were even older than the feud back on earth and far beyond the level of 'war' as he's known it to exist... Depends if they have a deity of destruction capable of terra-forming a planet and appearing as earth titans. They got the mystery aspect already, with Voltron and quintessence.
He could've hoped for a better team though. Keith sometimes reminded him of Miko, but at least she was more annoying than stabbing on contact. Shirt had his work and trauma cut out for him, at least that's something he knows how to handle from watching Arcee, Ratchet and Optimus. He honestly can't handle Allura though -- was royalty like this? He'd been a child -teen- soldier, but the rest of them had been cadets with no prior exposure and now they're all with shallow support systems to fall back on (nevermind the whole Holt-fiasco Pidge has going on.)
....
It just so happens that Allura found Cybertron and decided to propose an alliance. Lance debated wether he should tell them the Galra and Lions (why were they both feline?) weren't the only visitors earth had and decides it's high-time he tells them he's friends with them, but he ends up getting shot down for 'bad/ inappropriate jokes'. He raises his hands in the air, acquiescing to their dismissive reaction since he's far more eager to meet Arcee, Bee, Bulkhead, Ratchet and more than to correct their opinion.
Lance goes to meet them in classic clothes, without his armor, since he 'doesn't want to come off as aggressive' unlike the rest who, come what he may hint at, still follow Altea's thousands of years old data on their races society - slaves, war, etc. Something he knows best will not be received well. At all. He's also partially expecting Allura or one of the others, bets on Pidge, to go on about their Hierarchy system and slavery - which, he gets it, honestly, knowing her own situation, but that'll rather serve to sever any prospective alliance than 'revolutionize their society'. So it's gonna be bad, as the Cybertronians have technology surpassing even the Galras on kriffing space bridges. Shame too, as it would stop the overreliance on Allura to input coordinates and their allies could use it as well to offer assistance in a snap.
So when they enter Cybertrons gravitational pull Lance is the only one not up-to-snuff, dressed in his old clothes who were newly synthesized by the Castle's repair systems. Arcee is bound to get a visual alert on the similarities, at least. If she's not too busy to meet him. Ratchet should be there though, he'd received the transmission. But he hopes to see the femme again. He'd missed her and their rides around Nevada a lot. He'd been her charge, she'd seen most of his wardrobe in the span of -give or take- 5 years and thus bound to recognize him from any angle. She was there, probably as backup or guard and, as while Voltron's heads were talking politics -thank Primus Wheeljack's not here for that- they were subtly scanned for weapons and threats. He kept an eye on her, which her optics picked up on and when she turned to Lance she stared. For a good few doboshes neither blinked, before a hopeful expression grew on her face. Thank Primus she recognized him! Actually, so did Bumblebee and Bulkhead who, while not as quick to notice as Arcee, did have a memory file pop up at the sound of his voice: It was a done deal when he told Pidge off and Keith to stop running off, the same way he'd do with Miko when she (again) ran straight into blaster fire or portals.
If only she could see him now, she'd see the irony of it.
Ratchet was surprised at the foreign contact before he was pleased, an offer for an alliance to stop a tyranny would be the distraction some of them needed and a fresh start for Cybertrons dark past. Then he was slightly concerned as they came to meet them with weapons, stating they themselves are armed. Also, what are humans doing here?? What is the Altean expecting of them, not lose an arm? Be legendary warriors like Optimus?? Hah! They were friendly compared to other species in their galaxy, having disengaged the automatic target system for their blasters!! When the princess came into the picture, proudly stating that they were aware of the risks and willing to fight to the death for their cause he was so fragging pissed at her he wished he had a larger exhaust pipe to blow off steam.
"By the Allspark- have you no shame in sending a species not even into adulthood to fight your war at the front lines!?"
"Jack, I thought you were more responsible than that." Arcee starts. Ratchet momentarily lags, blinking his optics at the human clad in a dark blue turtleneck and pants. He barely looks like he's aged.. oh, don't tell him Miko is hiding somewhere too.
"I am. You're looking at the one and only multi-talented sniper of Voltron." He looked at Bumblebee whilst his old guardian was still looking pissed but at least she was joining Ratchet on grilling Allura instead of his morals. The femme had always been his inspiration for angry power-walks and she proved that, stomping so close he worried she'd step on her before letting all of Cybertrons hear her rage.
Wisely, from.experience, he opts out of listening to that and focuses on the scout "...Yeah, it really helped that you taught us some of your tricks as a scout way back then. Didn't think I'd need it after we... thank Primus for that, really."
The yellow cameron let out a string of beeps, not using his radio. Perhaps for old time's sake, he's feeling nostalgic too, seeing them again. The high chirps and deep rumble takes him longer to translate than Raf would, but he also knows how the other thinks, so he makes a pretty educated guess.
"Raf and Miko are fine, last I video chatted with them - a year or so ago. Raf was graduating from some fancy science school in Arizona, aiming to get into State Security, maybe Satellite Scanners legally." The Autobot was listening intently, so he can safely assume he hit the hammer in the head. Actually, looking at the scout reminded him: "He also remade his own yellow car; it's got AI and spy cams. He really misses you buddy. He managed to keep the feed from the base saved on his laptop. We watched them like, every month after you were gone. Miko actually made a mixtape out of the funniest moments - kinda like a video documentary."
He looks at the Wrecker that's been keeping watch on the other paladins, Keith in particular was receiving Knockouts -the red sports car, medic and ex-decepticons- attention. "Miko is working her way up the music industry, though as a Voice actor right now. She's getting pretty popular and working on getting support for solo albums. And, cause we know Miko, she's also doing parkour. It reminds her of our adventures.
We missed you all pretty bad."
A digit picked him up and Hunk yelled out for him, fearful as Keith drew his sword and tried hacking it at his capturers pede. It was Ratchet, who took a pause in denoting Allura's self-esteem from Royal know-it-better to galactic fuck-up her father would cast from his presence. He also gave Keith the 'this is clearly not working, are you dumb' look. Also a memorable sight from Earth.
A part of him felt avenged, and comforted in knowing Ratchet was the one coming to their defense when it had been just him still fighting for their peace. This war wasn't theirs, they belonged home, the Holts deserved to be recovered, yes, but war would be a couple dozen steps away still if it hadn't been for Allura (and Blue, but she didn't have many options on isolated Earth to glean help from. Allura did, a rebellion existed - the Blade of Marmora and the Freedom Fighters).

Au where Lance is a storyteller turned writer that ends up seeing visions of real murders he has to break the cycle for before it's too late.
But he doesn't know that just yet.
It all starts with dolls. When lance was little he'd watch in awe as his elder sisters played with pretty dolls, their glossy hair and colorful tiny clothes mesmerizing to his young eyes. He was never allowed to play with them himself so he'd craft intricate stories for them in his head instead.
When his abuela found out she'd gifted lance her own collection, a beautiful set of vintage dolls all his own. With those dolls his stories continued on in his mind. As he himself aged he grew his collection himself.
When Rachel died, murdered with no answers, he kept her dolls too and gifted them back to the two daughters she'd left behind in his care.
His bf at the time helped all he could, he was a kind man Lance gad met in college. By then they'd dated for two years, by then he was a part of the family. To help the girls feel truly settled through Lances grief, his bf would do everything to make the girls feel at home.
Many therapy sessions, long nights and tears later Lance finds himself desperately retelling the stories he'd crafted for those dolls to the 5 and 7 year old in hopes it's enough to get them to bed.
To Lances surprise, It works.
So every night no matter their age Lance would tell his nieces, now daughters, stories to help them cope.
It's his boyfriend that suggest it first, for lance to write these stories out and in doing so even more details pour out into the pages he writes on.
Before long years pass and the girls can read these stories themselves, they ask for more, they call both Lance and his long-term Bf dad and it both warms his heart just as much as it shatters it.
The girls are 10 and 12 when lance hears from a publisher for the first time.
His first books are published without much flourish and the small family of four celebrates anyways.
The first time he sees his books out in the wild Lance is in awe. His bf simply smiles at him and encouraged him to continue.
So he does.
Things are well, if Lance ignored the screaming in his ear.
Lances happy little life is haunted by dreams that aren't quite dreams. He isn't sure what to call them. Visions? Nightmares? All he knows is they're vivid enough and they grow more frequent and disturbing as time passes.
He hasn't told anyone of them since the grief counseling years ago. He had to appear as sane as possible for the Girls sake. Lance refused to let anyone else have custody of them so he simply had to deal.
He'd talk to his lover about them had the last time not felt so....off.
Lance had laid in the man's arms describing the icy terror he'd feel from the images his head crafted.
How he'd always see a dead body, how it would be swallowed by the wet earth surrounded by pine and how it looked like his sister or her favored dolls.
And the man that had always been his biggest support looked at lance in fear for the very first time. "are you sure you're ok?"
Lance had to smile and say "yeah, it's just a reoccurring nightmare I think"
After that those "nightmares" started happening during the day, quick flashes of cold damp earth, a deep hole in the ground, disfigured bodies slowly growing in number.
It's no longer just his sister.
All had looked like dolls for the briefest moment.
He doesn't know what to make of it. So, Lance ignores it.
Things move forward as they always will. The youngest of his daughters takes the last name Clark because "Alana already has the McClain name! Daddy doesn't have anyone with his name so if I have it then both our dad's are honored."
His bf is overjoyed to be loved so deeply she'd want such a thing. Their happy little family growing more intertwined. Two perfect daughters with two perfect last names for their two perfect dads.
If only their happiness has lasted.
Their breakup was the shock of everyone that knew them both. It didn't end in flame and smoke but in an autumn chill soft and aching. They didn't fight, argue or scream. It was quiet and a mutual agreement.
Lances writer fame had taken off and they'd been begging him to move closer to their publishing office for in person meetings to help fan the flames of his growing popularity.
His bf had been growing a bit distant since then. He claims it's because he felt he was holding lance back and it was obvious the girls would go where he did.
Their breakup felt like a divorce.
The visions grow more detailed, he can actively smell them now.
The now family of three moves states and temporarily move in with an old friend, Keith Kogane.
Keith had moved out here five years ago and it just so happened to be the city his publisher wanted lance to live in.
His daughters, though still distraught, are excited to see their uncle Keith again and Keith is just as happy to see them in return.
He joyfully comments on how big they've gotten, he helps them all settle in and Keith sits with lance every night as he grieves the loss of a life he thought was forever.
Lance has a few months before a book tour starts to promote his newest series and Keith holds his little family together in his rough but gentle hands.
Those caring hands will watch his daughters while he's gone and lance couldn't be more grateful to have Keith in his life again.
Keith who never pried when lance was frozen with the horrible visions mid conversation. Keith who owned every single one of lances books and dedicated a shelf just to his Works.
This man helped keep his girls from being too hurt at the loss of another parent. This man helped get them therapist in the area and recommended lance the perfect schools for them.
Keith was actively helping his girls get through yet another thing to grieve and Lance Couldn't think of any better a situation for them to have fallen into.
He wouldn't know it just yet, and neither would Lance, just how much he was truly saving them.
~•~
When Lances nights grow too restless Keith recommends he start going for runs.
"It helped my mind alot When shiro was still MIA during his deployment. Running just....got my mind off things, helped me think."
And who is Lance to argue with reasoning like that?
His night runs become a frequent occurrence even through the biting cold of winter crawling in.
It's on his way back that he sees it in the yard of a neighbor that's no longer there: a doll.
It's pretty hair in a high ponytail reflecting the moonlight off the plastic.
Lance approaches, curious. This doll hasn't been there this entire time....has it?
He kneels down to pick it up from its resting place against the side of this old house. It reminds lance alot of vintage Barbie dolls, the kinds his sisters used to play with and never allow him to touch.
It's hands were shredded and face scratched near unrecognizable but her smile stayed intact. Perfect and glossy.
As he holds this doll in his hands the overwhelming sense of wrong evades lances senses. Something screams at him to check the rest of the yard, his gut churning as he steps further and further in.
There's another doll by the old shed. Another by the broken backdoor.
Each more disfigured than the last. Each left with the perfect, glossy smile. Each a vintage doll he used to see in his family home.
Horror and unease swallow lance whole and this time the vision takes lance violent into it's grasp.
This time everything is uncomfortably sharp. The scent of rain dampened mud, the cutting iron, the sounds of screaming.
He's in a thorn bush cutting deep into his trembling form, watching thru the gap between its branches hoping no one will hear him. He watches a man burry body after body into the large hole in the earth he always saw before.
Lance listens as the man sing songs his name saying soon it'll be his turn. Soon the tale will end.
And as the thorns shred his icy skin Lance wakes up snapped from the vision still in the old yard. He drops the doll and rushes back.
He ignores Keith's worry filled questions and hides away in the bathroom shaking from the chill left behind.
As lance strips his clothes dampened from the wet grass he looks in shock at the blood seeping through. His arms are covered in thorn cuts from a bush he was never actually in.
And lance doesn't know what to do when the next day the dolls he'd left behind are no longer there.
This is when the tale truly begins.

It's Just Pretend
Chapter 1: Hear Me Out!
Summary: Lance and Keith are fresh out of college. They are already "living" the post-graduate dream. Well paying jobs in their respective fields. Solid friendships, just one thing is getting in their way. They need an apartment as soon as possible. Everywhere they look goes with another couple.
An idea given by a friend leads these two boys into a fake engagement just to score an apartment.
They find an apartment quickly, but will the engagement stay fake forever?
AO3!
Word Count: 1,733
Hey everyone, I'm back with another random fic!
I've been wanting to write this for a while and finally started a month ago <3 (Shout out to @shirokeithpidgearemybesties for motivating me to write <3333)
Enjoy~
“Oh that’s fine, thank you for getting back with us,” Lance rubbed his eyes as the person on the other end of the phone apologized once more. “Have a good night.” He ended the call, leaning his head back with a groan.
“What did they say?” Keith asked in a knowing tone.
Lance cleared his throat, raising his voice an octave to match the person on the phone. “So sorry Mister McClain, but we rented the apartment to someone else.”
Keith rolled his eyes, “we make three times the rent combined! We were more than qualified.”
“Tough market I guess.” Lance slipped his phone back into his pocket, “I’m going to get a drink. Need anything while I’m out?”
Keith shook his head, reaching for his laptop. “I’ll be looking at some more places while you’re gone.”
Lance nodded, moving to grab his keys and slip his shoes on. “You’re the best man.” He unlocked the door, “be home later.” And while a mumbled goodbye he clicked the door closed and started down the hall.
---
He slammed his glass down, grimacing around the bitter liquid. “I just don’t get it, Adam. What are we doing wrong?!”
The bartender slid him another shot, grabbing his other glass. “Sounds to me like nothing.”
Lance groaned, resting his head on the cold wood. “We are freshly graduated, both make way more than the ‘required’ renters amount. Is it because we’re young?! Do people think we’re party animals?!”
Adam shrugged as he started to polish some glasses. “Could be several things. It’s hard to say.”
“You’re no help.”
“I’m a bartender, not a real estate agent.” He placed the glass he was holding down. Grabbing a new one right after. “How much longer can you and your roommate stay in your current housing?”
“Another month max. It’s student housing, they’re going to kick us out once the semester starts.”
“Running out of time.”
Lance sighed. “It’s not like we haven’t been trying. Each one we applied to just gets taken right from under us.”
“Maybe it has to do with how you present yourselves,” Adam said with a bored expression.
Lance shook his head. “We always shower before and wear nice clothes. We make sure we look responsible and put together.”
Adam hummed. “Maybe they just want couples.”
“What?”
“Like married couples? Some studies have started to look at that.”
“They legally can’t discriminate like that.” Lance downed his other drink.
Adm shook his head. "They actually can." He stared at the other boy for a moment before sighing. "Look,” he placed the glass he was polishing down. Placing his hands on the countertop, the towel draped on his right shoulder. “I moved in with my fiance after our engagement. Our other friends did the same. So I’m not sure what your experience is but we didn’t have any place to turn us down. And neither did our friends.”
“Way to rub it in my face, I'm single.” He slid the cup to Adam. “If I ever get engaged I’ll keep that in mind.”
Adam grabbed his glass, “fake it.”
“What?”
“You and your roommate, fake it. Just for the sake of finding a place.”
Lance stared at his bartender. Slowly blinking a couple of times. “I’m sorry, did you get drunk instead? What are you saying?”
Adam sent him a small smile, “where did you get confused?”
Lance laughed. “My roommate would never be okay with that.” He stood, fishing for $20 out of his wallet. “We’ll find a place. By next week. We’ll have a place.”
---
One Week Later
“Any updates?” Adam slid two shots toward Lance and Hunk.
Hunk sent him a smile while Lance quickly downed his drink. “Two more rejections.”
Adam whistled, “New weekly record?”
“Ha ha, very funny.” Lance crossed his arms and rested them on the table. Dropping his head on them. “It's hopeless, we’re going to be homeless at this rate!”
“Take a breath man, you two will find something.” Hunk rubbed Lance’s back, trying to soothe his friend.
“Easy for you to say, you and Shay scored a place months ago,” Lance grumbled back.
“I don’t know what we did differently,” Hunk said. Sounding a bit exasperated. A conversation they had numerous times.
Lance looked at Adam who was giving him a knowing look. “Nope nope nope,” he lifted his head. Pointing his finger at the man behind the bar. “Don’t even suggest that again.”
“Suggest what?” Hunk asked.
“What does Shay have that neither you nor your roommate has?” Adam sent a smile toward Lance.
Lance mumbled out an answer.
“I’m sorry what?” Adam leaned forward slightly.
Lance sighed. “A ring.”
“Three for three,” Adam said, leaning back some while crossing his arms.
Lance sighed, “I need another drink.”
---
“No, absolutely not.” Keith crossed his arms, sending Lance a stern look.
“Come on mullet! It’s just pretending.”
Keith stared at his roommate, his face unchanged. “No.”
Lance threw his hands in the air in frustration. “It wouldn’t hurt to try.”
“I’m not pretending to be married to you.”
“Engaged.”
“Right…engaged. Because there is such a difference.” Keith scoffed.
“There is.”
They both fell into a stiff silence. Neither of them dared to break it. Lance chewed on his inner cheek, his hands fidgeting by his upper thighs. Keith stared at the floor, his feet hanging off his bed. Lance sighed, “Keith, buddy, my man. It could work, we can just try it-”
“No,” Keith slid off his bed. He moved to slip on his shoes. “Don’t bring that idiotic idea up again.” He left the room with a slam.
Lance sat on his bed and mumbled under his breath. “We’re never going to find a place.”
---
One Week Later
Keith stormed into the room, curses being sputtered quietly. Lance sat up, lifting his headphone off his right ear. “Yo, what got you pissed off?”
The other boy fished his phone from his pocket. Shoving it in Lance’s face. A rejection email meeting his blue eyes. Lance groaned. “We’re running out of options.”
Keith took his phone away and paced the room. His hands found a home in his hair. “We only have two weeks left, what are we going to do?!”
“Well-”
He stopped and pivoted towards Lance. “No.”
Lance raised his hands in the air, “I didn’t even say anything!”
“You were thinking about it.”
"Keith,” Lance stood from where he was laying. “What do we have to lose?”
“My pride,” he mumbled as he flopped on his bed. Sighing as he stared at the ceiling.
“You lost that long ago.”
Kieth scoffed. “When?”
Lance raised his eyebrows at him as if the answer was obvious. “Ah-hem. One word, six letters.”
“Stop-”
“M U L-”
“STOP!”
“L E T. MULLET-” Lance sat up from his bed, Keith following suit.
“I don’t have a mullet,” Keith ran his fingers through his hair. Yanking at the long locks, a groan of annoyance escaped his lips.
“Sure buddy,” Lance sent him a tense smile.
Keith dropped his hands, “how would it even work? Pretending to be…together.”
Lance giggled. “You don’t have to sound so scared of the idea.”
“I don’t like intimacy.” Keith crossed his arms over his chest. Trying to keep his posture stoic.
“Keith my man. My buddy,” Lance stood and took a couple of steps to his roommate's bed. Sitting down next to him, casually throwing his arm over his shoulder. He pulled him closer so his head was almost forced to rest on Lance’s shoulder. “It’s not real. That’s why it’s fake.’ All we have to do is say we’re engaged, and make up some ‘this is where we met’ story. Which, we can say we met at in college-”
“We did,” Keith mumbled.
“See! One step is already done. You’re so smart.” Lance squeezed him tighter, raising his voice into a mushy tone.
“Lance!”
He laughed and loosened his hold. “We can use our actual friendships as the timeline for our relationship. Maybe get a fake ring for one of us and let me do the talking. No kissing, at least on the lips, and holding hands and hugs are the max we will do around others. It’s not torture, it’s just pretend.”
Keith didn’t reply, his breathing low and evening. He was mulling it over. Weighing the pros and cons as if his life depended on it.
“Take the night and consider it? I’m meeting Hunk for dinner.” Lance made his way to the door, grabbing his signature green jacket as he slipped his shoes on. “Later, Mullet.” He twisted the handle, reaching for his keys as he opened the door.
“We can try it.”
“Hm?” Lance froze, his eyes falling on Keith.
Keith sighed, his eyes burning the ground. “We can try it. But only for a week.”
Lance grinned. “See you later then…. Babe.” He closed the door, not missing Keith’s groan of regret.
---
“All of the appliances are brand new, top of the line. It comes with both a washer and a dryer. All utilities are included in the rent. Any pets are an additional $25 a month each and each apartment comes with two numbered parking spots. Any additional vehicles just need to park in the uncovered lot.” The girl, Nyma, stopped in the kitchen. Placing her binder on the white marble countertop.
“This is really…wow this is gorgeous.” Lance walked through the living room once more, leaving Keith in the kitchen. “Babe, what do you think about it?” He glanced toward Keith who was staring out one of the windows. “Baby?”
Keith’s eyes snapped to Lance, and a small blush formed on his face before he cleared his throat. “It’s perfect.”
Nyma looked between them, her eyes gleaming. “Are you two interested?”
Lance nodded excitedly as he made his way over to his friend. “My fiance and I have been looking for a place for months but none of them have come close to this.” He intertwined their hands together, his thumb unconsciously rubbing along the backside of Keith’s hand. Unaware of the tension Keith held in his body over the touch.
“How long have you two been together?”
Keith froze, but Lance took charge. “Four years together, but one year engaged.” He sent Keith a smile who nodded.
Nyma grinned, moving to open her binder. “Let me talk you through the application.”
They were approved that night.

ranking voltron characters on how much they should have been at the cluuuuuuuuubbbbbbbbbbb:
lance: there has never been a character who should have been at the club more than lance mcclain. i know hes absolutely slaughtering it on the dance floor. leave him there for five minutes and hes already made three new friends in the smoking area and bought far too many drinks for the meager amount in his bank account. a man with a true clubbing spirit and its honestly cruel voltron stole that from him. 10/10
hunk: now hunks place at the proverbial club is a little less sure. i think hunk would enjoy going clubbing occasionally, especially if its lance he's going out with. but he likes clubs that aren't as intense with plenty of seating area. maybe a lovely jazz place. that being said, the club is less of a natural habitat for him and more of a fun once-in-a-while. 6/10
pidge: this is a little hard for me to visualize because pidge is like, fifteen. many years remain before she can even dream of the club. that being said i think pidge has the potential to have fun at a club but it definitely wouldn't be her first choice. she would prefer playing video games at home. 3/10
shiro: i dont think shiro went to the club much pre-kerberos mission, always very focused on his career yk. always the guy reminding everyone to drink water, always the guy you left your drink with cause he took it deathly serious. that being said, he was occasionally known to bust a poorly done move. he did have fun! during voltron he was too busy having ptsd flashbacks and leading a war to be at the club. post the whole voltron kerfuffle i do not think you would ever find him at the club. that is an old ass man let him have his tea and biscuts and leave him alone. hasnt he done enough. 5/10 pre-kerberos and 1/10 after.
allura: i think, for allura, the club is a complicated place. on one hand she is an ancient alien princess unaccustomed to human clubs and i cant imagine, her being a teenager and also (it needs to be stated again) a princess, she had much clubbing experience on altea. that being said i think she could learn. whether she could shake off the stress of being princess/diplomat/paladin/all of her other roles long enough to truly enjoy it is another question. her killer dance moves make up for her stressed out vibes though and she is ultimately just a girl who wants to have fun. 5/10
keith: absolutely fucking not. keith has whatever the opposite of a clubbers spirit is. keith being at the club would be a sign of deep spiritual unrest. get my boy OUT of there. 0/10
coran: 10/10 no explanation needed. please let that man into a human club and please let me watch the show
#jokes aside i think keith might have a small amount of fun at the club if he is absolutely smashed#but i genuinely dont think hes the kind of guy who has a weekend free and goes 'lets go clubbing' even if lance invites him. not his style#vld#voltron

Our Love’s Redemption
Posted here and AO3 (Secretsandwritings)
As Keith pulls him closer to examine his face he told him, “I’m proud of you, Lancelot,” He just looked at Keith smiling and blushing, “You must be drunk to call me Lancelot, Kogane,” Keith just gave him a weary smile as Lance pulls away from him…
“I didn’t drink today, I just wanted to tell you that I am,”
There was a sadness to Keith’s voice…he was being truthful. Keith was hurt for Lance to assume he was drinking which he was but not enough to make him drunk. Lance looked back and inched closer to Keith’s face than he was before, tucking his long hair behind his ears, and there was a moment of silence. The room was filled with their breathing and what felt like endless staring, Keith didn’t want this to stop. Neither of them said anything while being in trance with the other, then Lance snapped out of their longing trance to go get something off the table.
“Goodbye, Keith Kogane,” Lance said at last, walking away. It was a dull goodbye which Keith hated but accepted.
“Goodbye, Lancelot MCclain,” Keith responded dryly and croaking into quiet tears.
Keith watched as Lance left the room, his footsteps echoing as he was leaving. A sadness flooded over him which he just cried alone begging he could run after him but knowing that is not what Lance would want him to do.
Keith knew they were already doomed before they even encountered. He just lays there paralyzed on the sofa crying, begging him to turn back around, to give what he’s been begging for. He knows that Lance loves her, he sees the warmth it brings him talking about her, oh how Keith wished to be her. Why can’t he be Lance’s her?
He wipes the tears that drenched his face and makes it off the sofa into his wheelchair. He took a long glance at what’s in front of him, he opened the door and sat in there. This is not the life he wanted but it’s the one he desperately deserves. He hopped out to sit in the closed off defined “room” then closed the small shutter door behind him. He smiled weekly as he looked up at the sky knowing that Lance got what he wanted.
Lance sitting in one of the seats surrounding his team, it was bizarre to him that he actually made it, but he couldn’t have done without Keith. He knows that he should’ve done a better goodbye to him, Lance assumes that this isn’t his final goodbye to Keith. He holds onto the braid that Keith cut off for him for good luck and prosperity, he smiles at it and it smells of Keith’s vanilla shampoo.
That smell won’t last forever and he knows that, once he’s done with his mission he promised himself to go back for Keith, to reconnect with him. He hasn’t even kicked off yet, his ship hasn’t gone out to space yet. He is distant from his team and there she is, the pretty girl with her white hair.
“MCclain, are you alright?” she asked him, with an arm stretched around his waist. He flinched and pulled her arm away. There was this dread he was feeling, he knew something was off with Keith. He called over one of the main engineers that was on the team.
“Garrett, get over here, I have something for you to do,” Lance said. Hunk nodded his head and Lance sent him to go ask if he can bring any guest on this mission. When he sent away Hunk, he looked at the crate with his creation. She was puzzled as to what he was doing. She was so lost in his thought process, she wanted to know what he was thinking. He was making Keith his her. Keith Kogane is finally Lance MCclain’s her.
Hunk came back to Lance to say that he could bring only one person, and he knew which one. He gave Hunk an address to acquire his special guest to come here. Hunk arrived at Keith’s home very confused as to why Lance would want this grumpy man to be his guest.
“I thought we were saying goodbye to each other, MCclain,” Keith said, wheeling toward him with Hunk standing close behind. Lance just shook his head with a cocky smile. Allura looked at the both of them even more confused, like who was this man?
“I don’t think I can let you go just yet, Kogane,” Lance responded, opening the crate then kneeling down to Keith’s legs. Keith was caught off guard by him kneeling down in front of him in front of these people he doesn’t even know. Lance applied something around his calves and he helped him stand.
Keith chucked in shock that he was standing, so this is what Lance had planned for him. Keith started to cry and Lance pulled him into a hug shushing him. Keith never thought he would be able to stand again after his accident.
“After all this time, you’ve done it for me?” Keith sobbed. Lance nodded and played with Keith’s hair. There was another moment where they looked at each other but Keith took it a step further by giving Lance a passionate kiss. Lance only pulled him in closer and lifted him off the ground. Allura wasn’t confused anymore, she was a bit betrayed.
She broke their kiss, “You didn’t tell me you were gay, MCclain,” He looked away from Keith to her sourly. She just looked at him like she was justified for saying that.
“Allura, I’m not gay”
“But you are, MCclain,”
“I am not, I am bisexual,”
“I-“
“Please. Just stop,” he says, turning to look at Keith to continue their passionate kiss. They made it to the other colony just in time. They lived quite happily together for the rest of their lives. Keith had never thought in his time knowing Lance MCclain that he would be his her.
“Thank you for giving me a chance, darling,”
“You were deserving of one, my love”
Keith hit him with a pillow then hid his face away from him. Lance gasped at him being hit. Keith tried scouting away from him off the bed, then running away. It was a new experience to run for the first time in a while. It felt amazing to run. Thankfully, Lance had convinced him to get the surgery at the colony.
Allura looked at them and ran across the field of the colony laughing and she couldn’t help but smile at their happiness. She was glad that Lance found someone that made him happy, especially for Keith.

Kidge summer event
Day 11: chill night.
Characters: Pidge/Katie holt, Keith Kogane, ( Hunk Garret ,lance McClain)
Pairing: pidge and keith : kidge
season7-Season8, fix-it AU
A/N, SORRY IM LATE! I haven't corrected my mistakes so if you see some, feel free to tell me! ( Im posting today's prompt later, I HAVE TO WRITE IT AND THEN TO GO WRITE ON WATTPAD! HELP.)
Pidge and Keith arrived at Keith's place.
It was their last night on earth and well, Keith decided to make the first move... It was because of Lance:
"MAN! invite her and have a nice time with her! It's literally the last time you can chill a little and after that, we will be back into space for a while... We're not even sure to survive, so, enjoy that girl as long as you can or you'll have regrets!"
So Keith though about it. Again and again........ And he did it. He invited her to spend their last night on earth together. Basically, It was a movie night, ever since it was Keith's first date and he didn't know how to handle it. He didn't want it to be too formal and he wanted her to feel comfortable... She hates public places.
He opened the door:
"Come in, you know the place.. make yourself confortable."
He said, not very sure of what to do and how to handle the situation.
"Yeah, thanks."
She answered with a soft smile.
They both sat on the couch where Keith has settled blankets and snacks.
"GOSH! YOU GOT US PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES?!"
She said as she jumped on them.
"Yup, I remembered that you liked them."
"Awww, so you do listen when I talk." She teased.
"Of course! Why do you ask that?!"
She chuckled and he understood that she was messing with him.
Later, they settled under the covers. Both pretty close but still keeping a respectable distance from each other.
"Ok so, I stole Shiro's Netflix for the night! Do you have anything that you want to watch? I let you pick the movie."
"Mhhh....." She thought a moment before to speak up: " How about an horror movie? It's been years since I last watched one first of all because we were into space but also because Hunk never wants to watch them... What do you think?"
"Sounds good to me!.."
So they picked a movie and started to watch it.
Ok Keith, sow remember, you'll regret it if you don't do anything to hug her. Like, if you don't even TRY.... Alright, here we go... Keith thought
He stretched and placed his arm behind her to bring her closer... That was something Lance and Hunk had taught him and, even if it seemed dum and weird, it worked! He now had her closer to him! And as the night wore on, she got closer, and closer, until she was resting her entire body on him and he was cuddling her.
When the movie ended, Keith looked down at her to see if she had fallen asleep but no, she still had her eyes opened but you could see that she was very sleepy.
She sleepily raised her head that was resting on his torso and gave him a soft smile.
"So what did you think of that movie?.."
He asked, trying to break the ice.
"Was the best movie ever."
She held him closer.
"Was it that good?.."He asked, not knowing exactly how to react.
"I mean, I haven't really payed attention to the movie... But it was nice."
"But-'" He was about to ask why but understood. "Ha- I have to admit... I haven't payed attention to the movie either..."
She laughed and then grabbed him by the chin to let a kiss on his cheek.
"We're both so dum..." She sighed.
"We are...."
A/N: im writting another version of it on wattpad. It'll be longer and better lol. if you want to read it, I'll post it in the story called "kidge one shots".

Helping Love - Part 1: Commander Yjok
Lance wanted to cringe at the ringing in his ears, but he couldn't move. His body ached terribly, and his arm hurt more than ever. He sucked in a shaky breath and even that hurt to do. He wanted to cry, wail in the pain he was in, but refrained from doing so, he wouldn't gain more pain but doing that. Crying never saved him but he still cried.
He heard footsteps and closed his eyes again; he heard the floorboards creaking as someone walked over him and he was kicked just a bit that he nearly winced loudly. Listening to the sounds around him he heard his father speak through something, a phone maybe? No, no, no, it was something different. "Have you located the lions?" The voice was deep and gruff almost, Lance wanted to shudder, he didn't like the sound of whoever this was. "No, not yet. I will locate them I won't let you down. Sire" his father replied sharply, who was even talking too? He dared not to move, his father couldn't know he regained consciousness, that'd be a death sentence almost if he was caught to have listened to something he shouldn't. But for some reason, the more Lance listened to the deep voice the more something pinged in his gut. This... man, sounded familiar almost. Foreign, but familiar. Without seeing the face, he wouldn't be able to tell. "You are to locate the lions and bring them to me, your mission is still clear. Do you understand Commander Yjok?" The demanded order was clear and stern, but Lance was confused, Commander Yjok? No, his father's name was Jospeh McClain. Who names someone Yjok much less Commander in this day and age. "Understand, Sire. Vrepit Sa!" What does that even mean! "Vrepit Sa. Do not fail me, Commander Yjok" he heard the voice disappear and his father chuckle, "I will find those lions and bring them to you, Emperor Zarkon. Don't you worry. I may even add in a little mistake I've got as a prize" Lance froze but kept his eyes closed. He could fear returning to his limbs; however, he remained still as if he was still unconscious.
Jospeh grabbed Lance by his shoulder and limply, Lance was held in the air, begging himself not to show any emotion or jerk from the pain. "You are a prize worth the same amount as those lions, and once you've been trained enough, you'll never even think to disobey an order by your owner. I'll make sure to it" he could hear the grin and he was scared, forcing his body to remain limp. He needed to remain limp for as long as possible. Veronica came home today from an overnight shift, and he knew she'd be livid if she ever found out the truth.
He could feel his father walking and the creaking of the stairs, seems they were going upstairs, and he prayed that nothing else would happen, he basically pleaded to whatever god there was that nothing else was going to happen and thankfully nothing did. He was tossed in his room, his body rolling painfully on the floor and the door shut with a click. Great, the door was locked. But at least he could move now.
Pain filled him completely as he whimpered quietly, it hurt. It hurt so much! But he needed to see the damage, he knew his arm was either broken or sprained but he didn't know which it was however he knew the pain he just couldn't decipher which pain it was. Guess he'd have to ask Veronica when she came home. He's the only one he can really, really trust. She was his sister, his mentor, his best friend. She was his safe place, Joseph prevented doing anything to show injury on Lance when Veronica was there, he prevented that, but she was the only one in the dark of what was happening within the walls of the McClain house. And he was afraid for tomorrow, it was presentation day. Status was everything. Alphas were considered royalty. Betas were the normal folk. And Omegas were treated like dirt from what he's heard. He prayed, hoped even, that he wasn't going to be an Omega, he'll be doomed to death if he presented that status.
Sighing he shifted so that he was resting against his bed, thanks to Veronica not taking crap from anyone, not even their parents, she bought him a better bed like hers and a few other things, but she did notice how Jospeh liked to single him out and vowed not to be that kind of person. He loves his big sister. Feeling his arm to try and figure out the pain, he pressed down and shut his eyes tightly and inhaled sharply, definitely broken. Oh boy, this was just great. He needed to put it back into place, looking around he caught sight of one of his old shirts that Luis destroyed and snagged it, ripping it apart with his non-broken hand and his teeth before he again used his teeth to tie it tightly above the area where the bone was broken before he took a breath. Make this quick without shouting out in pain, he could do this. He's done it before which was sadly last week, and he had to do the same thing now. Just breathe. He could do it.
Grabbing his arm and inhaling slowly biting his lip, he pushed in and wanted to yell and cry, the pain was too much it hurt. He wanted it to end. Slowly the pain began to descend into painful tingling sensations but at least the bigger pain was gone, why did the presentation have to be tomorrow? His arm needed at least a full week to heal completely.
Feeling around he could still feel the pain but not as bad as when it was broken so, good news on that part. Bad news is that Veronica's going to see his arm in pain and the other injuries. Oh man, he didn't want her to know, she'd blow a fuse and she has a temper. He could hear the front door open and Veronica calling out in Spanish, oh man, he's doomed.

Voltrom Ghost Whisperer AU - Part 7
1 2 3 4 5 6
Allura decided to skip town the next day and drove to the next one over. After knowing the last name of the family who previously owned her house, and getting a name out of Keith, a quick Google search for Lance McClain quickly told her he went to high school in the next town over. She had no idea how he was going to react to her, but she couldn't let Keith just roam without rest for all eternity.
She arrived at the school just as the bell rang and the kids began to leave for the day. She recognized Lance when he came out of the building, flanked by two other teens. She didn't want them to think she was a creep, but... taking a deep breathe to strengthen her resolve, she exited the car.
"Lance McClain?" She called when he was close enough. He turned around and threw her a flirty smile and a wink.
"Who's asking?" He asked, and had the gall to stare her up and down.
She raised an eyebrow and replied, "Someone way too old for you."
Lance's friends laughed and he, good naturedly, shoved them a bit. Then he turned to her.
"What can I do for you?"
"I hope this doesn't come off as too weird or anything, but I'm a friend of the Koganes and I haven't been able to get in touch with them," she began and took note of how he became stiff and his face lost all color, "someone told me your family used to be closed to them, so... I was hoping..."
"Lance, are you okay, man?" The larger one of his friends said as he put a hand on his shoulder. The smaller one stepped in between Lance and Allura in a protective posture.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm ok," Lance replied, but his countenance said differently, "I just... I need to sit down."
Lance shakily walked to a bench on the side of the road, and his friends followed. Allura did too, but slower and deliberately giving them space. Allura saw Lance take several deep breaths while his friends gave her the stink eye.
"I'm sorry," she said sincerely, "I didn't mean to upset you."
"No, it's... it's fine, it's just... I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but Mr. Kogane died a few years ago..." Lance replied.
"Oh, I'm so sorry."
"You said you knew him?" He asked then.
Allura hated herself a bit for lying, "something like that, but it was a long time ago."
Lance looked at her closely, and once again his eyes travelled up and down but this time it seemed to have a purpose. He observed her for longer, too, enough to make her uncomfortable.
"Are you Keith's mother?" He finally asked, and his voice shook, and Allura didn't think she was imagining the tears pooling in his eyes. Keith would be sixteen, now. Sixteen years ago, Allura would have been sixteen or seventeen years old herself. A bit of a stretch but not impossible for her to have conceived and given Keith up, so she could see how he reached that conclusion.
She had no frame of reference for how old Sargeant Kogane had been when he died.
"No, I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I'm just a family friend, that's all. I'm from England, so we weren't able to meet very often," she answered.
"I don't remember ever seeing you or hearing about you, and we were pretty close," Lance mentioned. He tried to appear nonchalant, but it seemed forced.
"Is that so? Well, I-"
"I think you're lying," he continued and didn't let her speak. What could Allura say? She was lying, but only because she wanted to help Keith move on.
"I think you're a reporter," the short one of his friends pipped in, "we've had some of them come sniffing around over the hears. They never claimed to be related to a dead family, though. That's a new low for your kind."
"I'm not a reporter," Allura said and bristled, "if you must know the truth, I just moved here from England and I bought your house. That's why I'm here."
That seemed to take all three teens by surprise, and Allura internally celebrated her small victory.
"I don't know how I can help you, lady," Lance said, frowning, "my dad would know more about the house if there's anything you want to know about it."
"It's not the house I'm having an issue with, but..."
The short one raised an eyebrow and didn't cut Lance any slack, "But?"
Allura sighed, and relented, "Before you say anything, just... I know how this is going to sound. I know perfectly well what it looks like. Therefore, I'm prefacing this by saying that I'm not after anything, no money, no nothing. Just... keep an open mind?"
"You're beginning to sound very suspicious," the larger kid said.
"Beginning?" The shorter one scoffed.
"I'm listening," Lance replied, looking curious and intrigued.
"I have a guest in my house," she began.
"So?" Lance asked, "Good for you."
"It's an unwanted guest. Every day, around dusk, he arrives in my house and screams at me get out. The other day he blew out my light bulb."
"And how is this Lance's problem?" The large kid asked. Allura ignored him and carried in.
"He is small, about this tall, around ten years old. He has messy, longish, about here more or less, black hair. He has violet eyes, quite unique I must say," as she spoke, Lance's eyes progressively widened in something akin to horror, "he's wearing black, knee-long trousers, a white shirt and a-"
"Red jacket," Lance finished for her.
"He told me his name."
"No," Lance shook his head and stood up, grief making his face scrunch up as he paced and wrung his hands, "no, that's impossible."
"He also told me your name," Allura continued.
"No! No, you're lying!"
"Lance, what-?"
"Lance!"
Allura spoke above them, "I know it's hard to believe, but he's lost and he's looking for you. He's been waiting."
"I have to... I have to go," Lance said and took off running away from the school grounds. The larger kid took off after him, clearly worried, barely sparing Allura a glance. The smaller one, however, rounded on her with a fierce glare.
"What's your deal, huh?" She yelled, "what do you want from him?"
"He understood what I was trying to tell him just fine. If she wants to tell you, it's up to him," Allura answered.
"No, you don't get to pull that card on me," she said, "whatever you said clearly affected him and I want to know why."
"Then ask him."
"Stay away from us," the kid spat at her, "or I'll call the police."

Aw yeah. I again am happy the story starts with Commander Hawkins. The respectable commander of **Vehicle Force** Voltron!! We chose to begin with a Vehicle Force character! (one of my favorite VF chars) He's the perfect choice. His character has always been of leading Voltron crew through the thick of it. By DD establishing him as Garrison leadership assembling the Lion Force team, we select one of the most heroic officer members in early Voltrondom, and provide a link between Lion Force and Vehicle Force which doesn't get seen as often (hmhmhm almost like they were originally two separate anime.....).
For people only familiar with VLD, there could be surprising character differences, but the differences make sense when you remember their common origin point is DotU. DD lifted concepts from DotU like VLD did, just differently. VLD introduced inexperienced versions of the cast and had them grow towards the veterans we know in DotU. But because VLD took a life of its own (as a good story does), the characters don't necessarily converge to their DotU counterparts. Meanwhile, DD looked at the DotU characters and asked, "What can we add that emphasizes or builds upon those traits, appealing to a realistic side for adult readers?" Ergo VLD gives us a plucky, loud-mouthed, insecure, still-learning-the-ropes Lance who barely squeaked into fighter class piloting, and only as a member of Voltron becomes the powerful pilot we know; DD gives us a cocky daredevil felon who's recruited for Voltron because he's already a notorious ace pilot. VLD!Keith reluctantly learns how to lead; DD gives us a man with the background and temperament to already be a fit leader. DD characters tend to have a history that's hardbaked them more by the time we meet them.
But these versions fit them gloriously. DD also looks back on the OG Japanese animes and incorporates things. The character's original name was Akira Kogane; in DotU they called him Keith [no surname]; so DD decided, "Heck. Let's keep his Japanese heritage and name him Keith Akira Kogane." The Japanese origins of the story were also respected by giving Hunk [no real name or surname given] the name of his OG counterpart, Tsuyoshi Seidou. DD calls him Tsuyoshi "Hunk" Garrett (you catch the Garrett, VLD nerds? Lots of the surnames you know come out of DD). I've liked the international nature of DD (though they wimped out by having characters move to the USA in their youth); in my VLD headcanons, I've placed the characters rather internationally.
But anyway like. Check out this good character stuff:
Keith Akira Kogane: Half-Japanese, half-Chinese, born in Hong Kong, moved to the USA at three years old. Both parents died in an accident when he was twelve, and Keith moved in with an aunt and uncle [the loss of familial support as a kid is something VLD fans would nod at]. To cope with the loss, he cracked down learning martial arts. "Unsure of the future," he enlisted in the marines, and "soon came to love the perfect discipline and order the Corps offered him, and spent several years in the field as a field reconnaisance specialist, earning several commendations in the process" [a sentence DotU fans would nod vigorously along with for their conception of Keith, if a sentence VLD fans would scratch their head on]. But DD!Keith's been on autopilot since his fiance died in a plane accident (lots of accidents rip), "waiting for his life to take shape and make sense again."
Lance Charles McClain: A reckless risk-taker who grew up in a poor town in rural Nebraska. "Lance was a below-average student, not because he was mentally lacking, but because he found himself intensely bored by school; couple that with several narrowly-avoided brushes with the law, and Lance seemed primed to become the poster child for a delinquent youth. Then he won a radio contest, received a gift certificate for ten free flying lessons, and changed his life forever." [aside from having issues as a student, this is material VLD fans would've expected for Keith, whose delinquency sabotaged his performance until Shiro stepped in to get him to Garrison flight lessons -- but again, getting to know your various Lances, this is fantastic for him.]
Tsuyoshi "Hunk" Garrett: Born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and American father, moved to Tennessee at thirteen, the smallest of the five Garrett boys and got nicknamed "Hunk" ironically. While Hunk's brothers went after athletic feats, Hunk became adept at all things mechanical. [a DD characterization VLDers would again have some synergy with] "More embarrassed by his size than emboldened by it, Hunk withdrew from the social scene." I love how Hunk has a Masters degree in engineering before enlisting in the army. Introverted academic achiever, yeet!
Darrell Stoker: While the rest of the crew is in their mid to late twenties, Darrell is sixteen, 5' 2", and barely over 100 lbs. He was orphaned as an infant in Denver, CO [I am bringing up Denver, CO because my pride as a Coloradoan flares up PIDGE IS FROM COLORADO YAAAAAAEEEEAAA REPRESEEEENT] Pidge is put into college at a young age, making him feel out-of-place. [coughs in direction of VLDers] And again, not in DotU, though elsewhere, but DD provides us a portrayal of Pidge as the ultimate tech genius. [hacks up a storm in the direction of VLDers]
Sven Holgersson: Swedish parents, grew up around Reykjavik, became a badass military operative, has killed people who were supposed to be allies before. Doesn't play well with others. "How's that temperament space dad?" people may ask. Aligns more with his character's earlier versions, and the antisocialness plays well into the story they tell. [eyebrow wiggles] This is a good Sven iteration.
Aaaaaand I am writing more than I am reading. I should be READING. AHHHHHH.
So it was about a 40% chance I was going return to my Voltron craze with VLD, a 45% chance with the Devil's Due comics, and a [squints for basic math] 15% chance it would be something else. I was off rambling to friends this week about Beast King Golion, Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, Defender of the Universe, and Voltron Force, so it was anyone's game. But Devil's Due has won out, so prepare for a liveblog as I reread one of my favorite iterations of Voltron.
I will liveblog by replying to this post for starters. Blacklist #voltron liveblog if you want to flee from any rambling, though it probably won't be excessive. If it is excessive, sorry not sorry, this is where fun times are made.

30 minute realization
Lance thought back to every interaction with Keith. Every snide comment, tentative compliments, awkward silences, the gloating, the arguing. Just, everything. How Keith struggled to find the right words, often forgoing them in favor of actions. How he tilted his head when he was confused, fiddled with his knife when he was anxious, snappy when he was worked up, and the almost shy smiles when he was happy.
All of it. Everything. Everything that was just so... Keith.
They'd just gotten back from a mission— liberating a society that lived on 23 different moons — and Lance had been on a roll during the mission. He'd single handedly saved 17 out of the 23, successfully did negotiations without having Allura step out of the castle. He was pretty damn proud! Got multiple pats on the back, loads of compliments, it was awesome.
And then Keith. Keith came up after everyone else, awkward written all over his face. He offered one of those shy, crooked smiles, not quite clapping Lance on the shoulder and more so... just placing his hand there.
"Nice job out there, Sharpshooter."
Lance's brain blanked out so bad he didn't even have a quip.
As soon as he had a second to himself, Lance analyzed every interaction he’d had with Keith.
“Nice job out there, Sharpshooter.”
“Lance, you’re… You’re an amazing right-hand man.”
“Hey, Lance! Over here!”
“Lance, are you ok?”
“Lance!”
“Lance?”
“Lance.”
Holy shit. Holy shit. Lance had a whole ass fucking crush on Keith! Keith-fucking-Kogane!
Lance paced, chewing on his nails. This was a problem. Don’t get Lance wrong, Keith is a likable guy! (once you get to know him) He’s sure plenty of other people have had massive, all consuming crushes on Keith. The problem here was the fact Lance couldn’t hide his crushes for shit. The crush on Hunk in 7th grade? Everyone knew within a week. The crush on Allura? (which is better compared to a hallway crush, but whatever) everyone also knew within a week!
Lance didn’t want to cut Keith out of his life and start acting weird, that would ruin the team dynamic! Which, there’s a war going on, that’s not something Lance can just ruin willy-nilly.
Maybe if Lance just focussed really hard on how hot Shiro is, this will be resolved—
“Hey, Lance? What’re you doing out here? We can’t have a party without the Lance McClain.” Keith smiled, Lance couldn’t see it, but he could fucking hear it in his voice. Keith placed his hand on Lance’s shoulder.
“Lance? You ok?” Lance knew (goddamn it, he knew) Keith’s eyebrows furrowed adorably, his eyes crinkling in worry, and his lips definitely twitched down in an adorable concerned frown.
Lance was irrevocably, heart stoppingly, middle schooler level head over heels.
And he’d just have to accept that. Lance’s chest fluttered. Not that he really had a problem with that.
Lance turned around, grin half formed and blush full force. “Am I ok? No no, sir, are you ok?”
Keith raised an eyebrow, and Lance wrapped his arm around his shoulder and began to lead them out of the room. Keith rolled his eyes, but played along.
“And why wouldn’t I be ok?” Keith smiled, probably expecting the usual jab.
Lance “mock” checked out Keith’s ass, “Because you’re carrying around that absolute dump truck 24/7!”
Keith, actually, full body froze. He wasn’t capable of processing the words Lance had just regurgitated. “I— what?”
Lance grinned, skipping off and leaving Keith behind, for he knew what was to come.
“LANCE!”
Lance began running, giggling all the way. Oh boy, was Keith going to whoop his ass.

White Magnolia
Pairing: Keith Kogane x Lance McClain Genre: fluff (pining idiots) Warnings: Keith is so in love it’s gross Summary: Lance convinces Keith to go on a road trip with him to California. Keith struggles to hide his pining Word Count: 3.5k words A/N: this was supposed to be posted for Lance’s birthday but oh well-
Keith doesn’t know why he decided to indulge Lance in such a crazy fantasy. One minute Lance is just rambling about what he misses about Cuba and the next, Lance is driving them both from Texas to California in his blue Tacoma. Keith really can’t find it in him to complain though with the way the sun is shining on Lance’s beautiful bronze skin and the wind is blowing through his brown, curly locks.
What Keith can complain about though is Lance’s terrible taste in music. For some reason, Lance’s road trip playlist—which is mysteriously called ‘Not a thing to do, but talk to you. WE'RE ALL ALRIGHT! WE'RE ALL ALRIGHT! HELLO WISCONSIN!’ and no matter how much Keith asks, Lance refuses to tell him why it’s called that—is mostly consisted of 90s songs. Being the pining idiot that he is though, Keith can’t find it in him to do any more than light teasing in Lance’s direction as he screeches all the lyrics at the top of his lungs.
One song does however catch Keith’s attention, especially since Lance immediately tries to skip it. “What was that?” Keith asks, smashing his pointer finger against the back button on the radio to bring it back to the song that Lance is currently blushing over.
“Nothing! Stop hitting the back button!” Lance screeches as he keeps trying to skip it only for Keith to hit the back button. They do this three or four times before Lance reaches his right hand over to smack and hit Keith. Keith grunts with every hit that Lance lands, not even noticing that the song he’s been trying to skip is finally playing.
When I first saw you, I saw love And the first time you touched me, I felt love And after all this time You're still the one I love, mmm, yeah-yeah
Keith starts to blush along with Lance, his hand smacking Lance’s away and finally bringing the brunette’s attention back to the song playing. Lance hurriedly skips it and looks at Keith out of the corner of his eye, but Keith pretends not to see as he looks out the window. Keith just assumes that Lance is embarrassed for having such a lovey-dovey song playing with Keith here, but Keith can’t help but feel that this is their song.
Keith is a stupid man who has been stupidly in love with someone who will never return his feelings for as long as they’ve known each other. Keith instantly took a liking to Lance despite having never even had a conversation together. Keith had always admired that Lance was so outspoken and friendly with everyone he met.
Well, except for Keith.
No, you see, Lance had somehow decided that Keith was his rival and that Lance would take him down. First, it was little things, like Lance trying to do better than him on quizzes and he’d brag each and every time he’d even get one single point more than Keith. That was annoying but it wasn’t too bad, Keith could handle that. It slowly began to escalate though over time until it turned to them yelling in each other’s faces and having to be pulled away from one another before it got physical. All that ended up doing was causing Keith to shut him out and pretend he didn’t even exist despite the fact that he could barely keep his eyes off of the blue-eyed Cuban. They ended up getting into the same friend group though since Hunk is friends with Lance, Keith is friends with Pidge, and Hunk and Pidge are friends with each other. It didn’t take them long to bring Keith and Lance together, even though it did take a long, long time. The duo eventually started to see each other as friends and became as thick as thieves.
Keith always craved for more though.
Keith is knocked out of his reminiscing when Lance curses because he missed a turn, his frown instantly becoming a smile when one of his favorite songs comes on. Lance goes back to screaming the words which causes Keith’s grey eyes to roll towards the back of his head. Despite his supposed annoyance, his heart is doing tricks in his chest whenever Lance grows focused on driving, which causes his screeching to become light, melodic singing.
Keith is starting to believe that this is what heaven would be like.
Keith’s eyes focus on Lance’s right hand that rests on the gear shift, his fingers tapping along to whatever annoying song he is playing. Keith suddenly has the urge to reach out and tangle their fingers together, to compare who’s hand is bigger and how their skin tones contrast beautifully.
This all repeats for a while, along with occasional chatter, for about eight hours before Lance grows too tired to drive on anymore. They have about twelve more hours to drive and Keith offers to drive while Lance sleeps, but Lance has an odd reaction. He claims he doesn’t trust Keith to drive ‘his baby’ but something Lance doesn’t know is that Keith has become a bit of a Lance expert. If they’re getting food and Lance says he doesn’t want any, what he really is saying is he doesn’t want to make Keith pay since he forgot his wallet. If Lance seems off and says he’s fine when Keith asks about it, what he really means is that he’s not okay but he wants to appear strong in front of everyone.
So, when Lance says he doesn’t trust Keith to drive his car, what he’s really saying is that he wants them to enjoy the ride there together. ‘It’s called a road trip for a reason, Keith.’ Keith doesn’t fight him on it and offers that they get some food before spending the night in a motel.
After getting some extremely greasy fast food and talking until really late, they finally head into their crappy and very worrisome motel. They both stop in the doorway when they find that there’s only one bed, making both of them stare at it in silence.
“I can sle—”
“I don’t mind tak—”
They both go quiet again when they both talk at the same time, both of their bodies turned slightly away from each other. Lance sighs and places his bag onto a small table by the door, starting to unzip it to pull out all his nightly routine items. “Look, why don’t we just share the bed? The floor is absolutely disgusting and I’m afraid one of us would catch something if we even tried sitting on it,” Lance says as he pulls everything out and begins heading for the bathroom. He makes a face when he walks inside of it before turning to smile at Keith and shooting him his signature wink.
Keith sighs and sets his bag on the chair by the table, deciding that he really didn’t want to sleep on the gross floor nor did he want to make Lance do it. Lance would probably complain about it through the entire night and all of his life if he ended up sleeping there anyway. Keith changes into his pajamas right there seeing as how Lance has seen Keith shirtless many times. Not that he ever seems to notice Keith’s shirtlessness…
The same doesn’t go for Keith though. Oh, no no. Keith has become the master at staring at Lance without getting caught. Well, sometimes he does and each time he’s caught, his face erupts in color. Lance always just assumes it’s from their recent workout or being out in the sun too long. Keith thanks God every day for Lance’s obliviousness despite the fact that he’s not religious. Keith catches himself staring at Lance more than the Cuban man does. He can’t help himself though. Lance has the looks of a god, what with his smooth, caramel skin, thick, curly hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, perfectly straight, white teeth, and the list goes on. Keith’s pretty sure he could write a whole book—no, a trilogy—on Lance’s perfect body. The thing Keith hates the most about his stupid crush though is that it’s not just his body that he likes. No, that would make Keith’s life easier and he’s pretty sure that the universe is out to spite him. No, Keith has to like all of Lance. His bad puns, his stupid finger guns, his cheesy pick-up lines, his corny sense of humor, his everything. Keith wants all of him more than he’s ever wanted anything in his life.
“Alright, bathroom’s yours!” Lance calls as he walks back over to his bag, smiling when he sees that Keith is wearing the pajama set that Lance had gotten him for Christmas one year. “No way!” Lance shouts in glee before rushing to his bag to pull out his matching pair. Keith sighs down at his red pajamas before looking at Lance’s blue pajamas.
“Don’t make me regret this,” he grumbles as he walks to the bathroom to brush his teeth.
“I’m not doing anything!” Lance huffs as he starts pulling on his own pjs. Once they are all ready for bed, they stand at the foot of it in another silence.
“So, uh, what side of the bed do you want?” Lance mumbles. Keith shrugs, not really caring either way what side he gets. “Cool, can I get the left side then?” he continues, already moving onto that side of the bed before Keith can even reply. Keith huffs a laugh through his nose before crawling onto the right side. Both of them lay on top of the covers, too scared of what lies beneath the covers to let their skin touch it. Good thing Arizona is such a warm state cause Keith would think he’d freeze otherwise. Guess it also helps that their AC unit doesn’t work anyway.
Unlike Lance, Keith has always been an early riser, so he’s not surprised when he wakes up before the brunette. What he is surprised to find though is that Lance is laying on his chest softly snoring away. Keith’s arms are wrapped around Lance’s torso and he can’t help but to squeeze him a little tighter, hoping that this isn’t a dream. Keith then finds that the still snoozing dork is sweating buckets, if Lance’s semi-damp clothes are anything to go by. Keith’s nose wrinkles at how gross they are but, of course, Keith’s poor weak heart starts beating faster at the fact that they’re cuddling.
And maybe Keith’s wildly beating heart is what causes Lance to stir and to slowly blink his eyes open. He’s letting out a yawn and beginning to stretch before halting in the middle of it, his eyes growing as wide as plates. He suddenly jerks away from Keith, doing so in such a harsh way that it causes him to tumble to the floor with a scream. Keith laughs and sits up, crawling over to Lance’s side of the bed to look over the edge at him. He finds Lance frowning and glaring up at the amused look on Keith’s face.
“It’s not funny,” he grumbles up at Keith, his frown turning into a pout as he sits up. Keith helps Lance up before offering Lance the bathroom first. Lance’s face warms as he stares at where he was once laying, Keith’s brow-raising up at him as he just stands there gawking. He then clears his throat and forces out a bad joke before scurrying to the bathroom.
They both take turns showering and while Lance is taking his, Keith lets his mind wander while he lays on the stiff bed. Keith’s stupid heart makes his stupid brain wonder what it would be like to wake up beside Lance every day, seeing the dried drool on the corner of his mouth and witnessing his sleepy blue eyes come to life the moment they see Keith.
Keith snaps out of his daydream when the bathroom door swings open and reveals a glistening Lance emerging with rolls of steam curling around his body. Keith recognizes the hypnotizing smell of Lance’s vanilla shampoo all the way from the bed, making his heart flutter with the familiar scent.
After Keith takes a brisk shower, they are on the road again. They stop to get breakfast at a diner before leaving the town that they stopped in. It isn’t until they’re in California that they stop again, this time pulling over onto the side of the road. Keith is about to ask why Lance is pulling over when Lance leans against the car and just looks out in front of him. Keith finally takes his eyes off of Lance to look at what Lance has stopped to admire.
When he turns his head, he sees just what Lance is marveling at. Before them are dozens of white magnolia trees that Keith begins marveling at right along with Lance. Keith slowly gets out of the car and leans against it beside Lance, his eyes finding the side of Lance’s face every few seconds. Keith’s eyes widen when Lance suddenly grabs his hand and begins tugging him towards the trees. “Lance! What are you doing? What about the truck?” Keith hollers. Lance just laughs and continues dragging him along without a care in the world, smiling when they reach the sweet-smelling trees.
Lance starts to hum a song as they weave their way between all of the trees, Keith’s heart threatening to beat out of his chest with the way the wind is blowing some of the petals and flowers off of the tree and onto Lance’s hair. They spend quite some time there, their hands still clasped together as they wander around. Keith and Lance end up racing from one tree to another and arguing about who clearly won. Once they settle on that it’s a draw (even though it most definitely wasn’t, Lance), they sit down beneath one of the larger trees to escape the unforgiving sun. They lean against each other and talk about any and everything, Keith’s heart threatening to pop out of his chest when Lance keeps mindlessly playing with Keith’s hands. Lance stops telling a story of something that happened last summer mid-sentence when a whole magnolia flower lands in his lap.
“These are edible, you know,” he says as he picks it up, studying it like it’s one of the greatest wonders of the world.
“What?” Keith asks, not being sure if he should trust Lance or not. This could be revenge when Keith told him that a flower he found on their weekly hike was good and tasted like cinnamon. Lance had been suspicious but ended up going for it anyway and immediately regretting it. Lance just about strangled Keith but Keith had laughed so hard that tears were falling down his face. It made Lance’s job of strangling Keith easier though since his body was so weak from laughter.
“Yeah. They’re actually pretty good. They have a mild ginger taste,” he explains. Before Keith can tell him to prove it, he’s already taking a bite. Keith watches with wide eyes as he chews and swallows, a soft smile coming to his face. Either it’s actually good or Lance is an amazing actor. He offers the flower to Keith and Keith decides to go for it just as Lance went for it when their situation was reversed. Keith found that he was, in fact, not lying.
When Lance finally decides they can leave, Keith stops him with a soft smile. He reaches up, tugs one of the flowers from the tree, and then faces Lance, finding his perfectly waxed brows furrowed together. Keith’s smile grows more as he tucks the flower behind Lance’s ear, causing the Cuban’s face to erupt with color.
Keith has changed his mind. This is what heaven must be like.
Lance finally lets Keith choose some music to play once they continue driving, his hand always coming up to tuck the flower back down behind his ear whenever the wind threatens to blow it away. When Keith plays some of his music though, of course Lance complains about the songs. Keith can tell he doesn’t have any malice behind his words though.
“Do you listen to anything that isn’t loud and dizzying, Mullet?” Lance jabs, turning to look at him with a crooked smile when they come to a stop at a light. Keith scoffs and turns his gaze away from the many shops lining the street to face Lance.
“Do you listen to anything that isn’t repetitive and annoying?” he fires right back with his usual smirk. Lance scoffs just like Keith did before turning his eyes back onto the road, his fingers going back to tapping on the gear shift, which brings Keith’s gaze back to his hand.
When they finally reach their destination in California, the sun is slowly starting to sink towards the horizon. Lance rushes out of the truck stop that they had decided to stop at when he notices it. “Mullet! C’mon! Hurry up! We are going to miss it!” Keith can’t really take him seriously when he’s wearing dollar sign shades that he bought in the gift shop. He’s sure he looks just as ridiculous with his alien eyes shades.
“Miss what?” he asks as he follows Lance at a much slower pace to his truck. Lance doesn’t reply though. Instead, he rips them out of the parking lot before Keith even has his door shut, making Keith screech and holler at him to slow down despite his laughter. He realizes why Lance was in such a big hurry when Lance parks and then flies out of his truck. Keith follows Lance down to the beach, a soft ‘wow’ leaving him when he sees the pretty blue water reflecting the sun that has just touched the horizon. Lance doesn’t seem to think Keith is going fast enough though, seeing as how he snatches his hand up and once again starts dragging him towards the coastline.
When Lance’s bare feet touch the water—wait, when did he take off his shoes?—the biggest smile that Keith has ever seen spreads across Lance’s face. Hunk wasn’t kidding when he told Keith that Lance belongs in the water. Keith smiles and gives his hand a squeeze before turning to look at the setting sun, not even caring that his boots are getting wet right now.
When the sun is gone behind the ocean’s waves, Keith notices they are facing each other with their hands tightly grasped together. Keith isn’t sure how they got into this position but what he is sure of though is that he’s never wanted to kiss Lance more than in this very moment.
“Keith…” Lance suddenly interrupts the peacefulness with a whisper, his eyelids seeming to grow heavy the longer he stares at Keith. Keith is momentarily shocked into silence when Lance uses his name instead of ‘Mullet’ but quickly recovers when he notices Lance slowly getting closer to him.
“Yes?” he whispers back, his voice refusing to get any louder in fear of shattering the dream-like state that they’ve created within the last few minutes.
Instead of verbally replying, Lance leans forward until their noses bump together and their breaths begin to mingle. Keith can taste the spearmint gum that Lance got from the pitstop on his breath, the smell becoming Keith’s favorite scent, second to Lance’s vanilla shampoo. Keith’s heart halts in his chest before going into overdrive when their lips finally touch, Keith’s breath stuttering. As their lips move against each other’s, Keith vaguely listens to the sound of the waves crashing and the seagulls squawking.
Keith is once again corrected. This is what heaven would be like.
Keith is knocked out of their blissful kiss when a bigger wave suddenly washes over their feet, causing water to spill down into his boots. He pulls away with an aggravated grunt, looking down at the saltwater that is now brimming his shoes. “Lance,” Keith growls despite the fact that it wasn’t necessarily Lance’s fault. Their dumb banter comes more naturally for them than anything else.
“What?” Lance crows with a look of indignation on his face, his arms letting Keith’s cheeks go to cross his arms over his chest. They fall into the usual repartee despite the fact that now their arms are wrapped tight around the other and refuse to let go. Well, that is until Keith goes ‘too far’ and makes Lance splash him with water. Keith glares at Lance like a murderous wet cat, his claws and fangs starting to show. Lance lets out a squeak before taking off down the coastline, his laughter deafening the sound of the waves that still lap at their feet.
Keith catches up to Lance with ease, seeing as how the tanned man isn’t actually trying to outrun his new lover. Keith wraps his arms around Lance’s waist and snatches him back, making Lance’s laughter cut off with a squeal. Keith spins him around which just ends up bringing Lance’s melodic laughter back.
Keith sets him back down and Lance immediately spins around to face Keith, setting their foreheads together. “We should go on another trip soon, Samurai,” he whispers before connecting their lips for another kiss.
