Since it's canon that WWX both absolutely can Not take what he dishes out in terms of teasing, and that he needs to look away and/or hide his face whenever he get's caught off-guard by someone teasing back (and how dare they act so shameless, he's fragile, can't they see he's a poor innocent soul etc etc)

So consider, if you may: Lan Zhan not letting him look away when he's flustered. And i mean full on holding Wei Ying's face in between his hands, intense eye contact (Hanguang-Jun trademark), not reacting to his whines or to the way his eyes flick to the side every two seconds because he can't. deal. with being looked at when he's flustered.

I just think that it'd be adorable if Lan Zhan were to ask him a very mean and rude question, like what Wei Ying would like him to do, since he's draped himself all over his lap and looks to be seeking his attention...

And Wei Ying is just trapped, unable to hide his face and forced to look at his cruel husband who just keeps looking at him with the same calmly amused patience until he somehow manages to convey what he wants without actually saying it outright (because if he had to, i think he'd actually pass out or start crying from how flustered he is, being perceived like that. Poor guy...)

In any case i think Lan "secret menace" Zhan holding Wei Ying's face and not letting him hide until he's a very specific shade of red and incapable of meeting his eyes anymore has a tonnn of potential

(And it's absolutely adorable!)

Oh, and bonus points if Lan Zhan uses the tips of his pinky fingers to trace along the skin just under Wei Ying's jaw and a little ways down his neck - like he isn't being mean enough, not letting his poor, fragile, flustered out of his mind husband hide in his shoulder at that very moment

He holds his face and start throwing back a few teases as well, watching delighted when the other start getting flustered and I can totally see Wei Wuxian trying to turn back the tables, flirting and pushing his face closer, hinting about their everyday means everyday but Lan Zhan just keeps looking at him, absolutely endeared and non moving and the fingers holding his face start moving just the slightly bit to make ticklish sparks dance across his nerves and, only when he tries to scrunch his neck and can't do it (rip my bro, the lan arm strenght keeps winning <3), wwx realizes in what predicament he literally walked, danced, complained and happily threw himself into because now his husband's eyes - sparkling with a rare kind of mischief - are focused on him, his reactions and nothing else.

Also! Imagine if he holds with one hand Wei Ying's face against his chest and now, while Wei Wuxian can't still move away, he gets a free hand to, well.... poke some fun as well And of course, since Wei Wuxian isn't seeing where he is going to attack next, the tickles and teasing becomes even more flustering! (Only Lan Zhan could make a simple 'hm' sound so teasy!)

I got really into calligraphy, but it's only my second day or so trying this type of calligraphy out, so-

I feel like it's really significant that we're never told why Lan Zhan's mother killed their fathers teacher. Mxtx is pretty meticulous about the details she puts in her story. Even in the act of leaving them out and I think the purpose here was to show that the 'why' or the morality behind it didn't matter to the Lans. For all we know the teacher might have deserved it. Maybe he had severely wronged her first. In my opinion, the fact that it's never explained, to me, points to how it didn't matter. Despite all their righteousness and rules, at the end of the day, it was culture that mattered. With their father, it was the expectations of the clan that mattered.

It's a great parallel to how the Lans treated the issue of the Wen Remnants too. The morality of the situation didn't matter. What was more important was following the flow of the majority.

Lan Zhan almost falls into the same pattern when he voiced to Lan Xichen that he wanted to hide Wei Ying away in Gusu. Not understanding that doing so would go against everything Wei Ying believed in. Everything thst he is. The confinement would in of itself be nothing else but a punishment for someone so care free and untamed (hehe...) as Wei Ying.

after one too many posts and fics, i have to say this.

the reason lan zhan likes the rabbits, is because they were given to him by wei ying. yes, the rabbits. the whole ass rabbit colony in the cloud recesses post 13 years is because of the og rabbits, that were given, gifted, to lan zhan by wei ying.

its the same as him keeping the flower he'd stolen from wei ying (along with his first kiss) for more than a decade and a half, preserved and well taken care of. its the same as him keeping jars of emperor's smile in the jingshi.

i fully belive that if wei ying had not given lan zhan those rabbits that lan zhan wouldn't have had that much of an interest in them. its all because of wei ying.

but wei ying, that dense motherfucker, barely remembers that he's the one who gave lan zhan rabbits in the first place and because lan zhan is absolutely obsessed in love with him he's held onto everything about those rabbits forever.

its wei ying who thinks lan zhan, ice prince second jade of lan lan wangji, mr tall handsome and stone cold, secretly likes bunnies. dense as a blackhole wei ying doesnt connect the dots that lan zhan likes those rabbits because he's in love with wei ying and wei ying is the one who gave them to him. - and the fandom takes this at face value.

please. i beg. stop making rabbits lan zhan's special interest or pets or favorite animal without wei ying's influence. this is like the harry potter fandom making chocolate remus lupin's favorite food and half his personality.

i get that the idea of someone like ice bitch supreme lan wangi liking soft cuddly small animals is very cute and attractive, i do. but its incorrect without acknowledging the why and the how he likes them, vis a vis the influence wei ying had in this regard.

I've been looking for a specific cannon divergent fic. I remember everything mostly going the same up until the end of the Sunshot campaign.

For some reason, the wens aren't killed off. A new original character is put in charge. Either NHS, WWX or JZX thinks something is up with the new wen clan leader an sect leader Jin.

For some reason WWX ends up in cloud recesses. Marriage or healing?

There are also two memorable sect conferences in the story where JGS uses demonic cultivation (either WWX's work or help from the new wen sect) to control people. The first one is used to upset the sect leader's and get them angry. WWX finds out about this one and tells people. For the most part it backfires, and JGS tries to blame it on him then uses someone else as a scapegoat. JYL is pregnant with JL, and the array makes her feel sick and leave. I don't think NMJ was affected though.

The second time, an array is hidden in JGS bedroom and is like some kind of aphrodisiac/compulsion array for JGS to assault some young woman.

In the end, JGS next victim kills him publicly and the Jin and Wen sects are exposed. Wen Qing is the next Wen leader and the Jin sect has a lot of restructuring to do. @hopesteapot-blog

One afternoon while Wei Ying is preparing dinner, A-Yuan looks up from his toy trucks and asks, “Baba, how comes lots of people in my class have a mom, but I don’t?”

Wei Ying’s hands falter at the chopping board. “Every family is different,” he explains carefully. “One mom, two moms, one dad, two dads. There’s loads of options.”

“But who decides?”

“What do you mean, baobei?” Wei Ying asks.

A-Yuan looks at him like he’s being silly. “Who decides who gets one baba, or two babas, or ten babas?”

Wei Ying laughs. He’s relieved A-Yuan only seems curious and isn’t upset. “Well, grown ups usually decide if they want a husband or a wife. And then they have baby radishes together.” He gives A-Yuan’s nose a gentle poke, making the boy giggle. “But some people like me decide to do it alone.” His explanation is probably not the best, but A-Yuan’s questions have admittedly taken him by surprise.

“So grown ups can have a husband or a wife…” A-Yuan holds up two sticky fingers to demonstrate. “And Baba still doesn’t have anyone?”

“I��” Wei Ying is gobsmacked. He stares at A-Yuan with his mouth agape. A-Yuan looks at him expectantly, like he’s waiting to hear an explanation as to why his Baba is incapable of finding love. Wei Ying quickly turns away and starts plating out their food. “Dinner’s ready.”

“Aunty Yanli said—”

“Eat up, baby.” Wei Ying grins wide and feeds A-Yuan a mouthful of rice, effectively shutting him up. And that’s the end of that.

Or so he thinks.

The next morning on the school playground, A-Yuan escapes from Wei Ying’s hold the second he spots Lan Jingyi, running into his friend’s arms like they’ve been separated for years. They see each other every weekday, and sometimes on the weekends too.

Wei Ying laughs and spots Jingyi’s dad looking similarly amused. The sun is out today and Lan Zhan’s pretty eyes sparkle in the sunlight. He’s utterly breathtaking. Wei Ying's heartbeat still stutters every time they see each other, and they see each other almost every day. It’s humiliating, really.

“Good morning, Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan greets, voice as rich and low as ever.

“Morning, Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying gives him a big, beaming grin. “How was your weekend without us?”

Lan Zhan doesn’t quite smile, but there’s laughter in his eyes. “Messy. Jingyi got into—”

“Mr Lan! Mr Lan!” A-Yuan runs back over and attaches himself to Lan Zhan’s leg like a limpet, creasing up his neatly ironed slacks.

“Yes, A-Yuan?” Lan Zhan’s hand instinctively goes to A-Yuan’s head, patting it like he does his own son’s.

“Baba needs a husband, Mr Lan,” A-Yuan says.

Wei Ying’s blood runs cold, his whole life flashing before his eyes. “A-Yuan, no—!” he splutters, trying to get the boy to stop.

But A-Yuan forges ahead without a care, voice filled with glee. “Can you marry my Baba please, Mr Lan? Then me and Jingyi can be real, actual brothers and be together forever! And then— And then we can all live happily ever after!”

“That’s enough, A-Yuan!” Wei Ying exclaims. His body feels like it’s on fire and he can hear the blood rushing in his ears. He crouches down to be at eye level with A-Yuan, despite the shakiness of his legs. “Remember what we said about thinking before we speak?”

“Ummm… that we should think before we speak?” A-Yuan blinks his innocent doe eyes up at him like he hasn’t just ruined Wei Ying’s life.

“Exactly,” Wei Ying sighs. But he doesn’t have it in him to get upset or annoyed with his son. “It’s time for you to head into class. Your teacher’s waiting for you.” He kisses A-Yuan on the forehead. “Bye bye, radish. Love you.”

“Bye bye, Baba! Love you too!” A-Yuan gives him a fat, slobbery kiss right back and then skips off to his classroom, hand in hand with Jingyi.

Wei Ying grits his teeth and slowly stands back up. Time to face the music. “I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan. I promise I didn’t put him up to it.” He doesn’t quite have the courage to meet Lan Zhan’s eyes. “He’s been asking questions about families and moms and dads and I don’t know, maybe I didn’t explain things properly. I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan.”

“No need to apologise,” Lan Zhan tells him.

“No, but there is!” Wei Ying insists. “Tell me how I can make it up to you?”

When there’s no response, Wei Ying braces himself and hesitantly looks up. Only to find that for some strange, inexplicable reason, Lan Zhan is smiling. “Let me take you out to dinner, Wei Ying.”

“What?!”

“A date,” Lan Zhan explains, like it isn’t clear enough already. “To make it up to me.”

“But Lan Zhan, I— You—” It seems that all Wei Ying is capable of today is sputtering and making a fool of himself.

Lan Zhan steps closer, still with that amused glint in his eyes, and gently brushes away a strand of hair that’s blown into Wei Ying’s face. “Don’t you want to live happily ever after, Wei Ying?” he asks.

Wei Ying feels like he’s died and gone straight to heaven.

Sizhui is a sweet child. Kind and smart, maybe a bit too obedient for his own good. A perfect little Lan.

The last time Wei Wuxian tried parenting, he'd had a 3 year-old boy in his care. He'd left the kid behind to turn himself into red confetti.

Wei Wuxian, unexpectedly, manages to become a quite decent tutor to the Lan disciples. But how to become a father ?

Should he try some family bonding activities ?

Wei Wuxian sets out to get Sizhui warmed up to him.

Going out and talking with the teen is thankfully easy and fun. Sizhui doesn't hold any prejudice against him, and he even makes a point of saying he enjoys Wei Wuxian's company. That in itself is enough to cause his eyes to water.

He learns about Sizhui's childhood. His first friend -Lan Jingyi, of course-, his first days of class, of sword training, of nighthunting.

He smiles at stories of Sizhui growing loved by his father and uncle, and his grand-uncle(!). Being patiently taught how to play the Guqin. Being gently offered the Xiao to try. Being playfully buried under a pile of fuffly rabbits.

He learns about the more mischievous(!!) side of his step-son. His first punishments (after being caught helping Jingyi copy rules, after trying to raise a rabbit in his room, after spicing up his and Jingyi's food once and getting found out because they kept blowing their nose.)

He is subjected to a terrifying kind of love, so strong and so freely given, by a heart so big he's scared it would one day be inevitably hurt.

He sees Sizhui's willingness to share his home, his father's love, because it would make them both so happy.

He keeps learning about how wonderful his newfound son is.

Then, there is also Sizhui's favorite childhood toy : a familiar paper butterfly.

There is Sizhui's former unexplained belief that being planted in the dirt like a radish would make him grow bigger and give him playmates.

There is Sizhui's nose, which reminds him of Lan Zhan's, and another boy's too.

There is the way Sizhui's just blurted out 'Xian-gege', himself confused by this way of address.

Wei Wuxian looks at Sizhui, a-Yuan, and doesn't dare to hope. He wonders.

For Love of the Patriarch

How caring as Wei Wuxian is towards the dead is how protective of him the dead are even outside of moments where he feels threatened. Here are some of my favorite instances of the girlies and ghoulies baring their fangs for their Yiling Patriarch:

The curvature of Wei WuXian’s lips dropped slightly as he glanced at him. Jiang Cheng had also heard the dissonant tone, “Second Young Master Lan, what do you mean by this?” Lan WangJi’s eyes were glued to Wei WuXian, “Answer me.” The ghoul child and the blue-faced woman began to stir. Wei WuXian turned around and looked at them. They backed off slowly, reluctant, and sunk into the darkness.

As he expected, Lan WangJi said, slowly, “You should not accompany yourself with inhuman beings for so long.” The smiles of the girls who were tittering around Wei WuXian immediately disappeared. The gauze curtains swayed, at times blocking out the sunlight. The pavilion shifted between light and dark. Now, their snow-white cheeks seemed a bit too pale, so drained of blood that they almost seemed ashen. Their eyes were glued to Lan WangJi as well. Out of the blue came a chilling eeriness. Wei WuXian lifted his hand, gesturing for them to move to the side. ... Without waiting for him to finish talking, Wei WuXian’s expression changed. He suddenly stood up, “Lan Zhan!” Behind him, red light had begun to glow within the eyes of the girls. Wei WuXian, “Stop it.” Thus, the girls lowered their heads and retreated, but still they stared unwaveringly at Lan WangJi.

Even if one were to argue that the ghoul child and the blue-faced woman are protective over Wei Wuxian because he summoned them to fight, the same cannot be said for the ghost girls in the pavilion who were summoned solely for companionship. Yet both groups respond the same to perceiving Wei Wuxian as unhappy, as if they have a vested interest in his happiness. A man that can inspire loyalty and care in the living and dead is truly one of one!

Lan Zhan doesn’t use social media often. He has a professional account that he posts his appearance schedules to, where he follows other musicians of his calibre. His cohort will tag him in posts, some of them professional and some of them personal, but he rarely answers.

His professional bio has a link, so he amasses followers anyway. Such is the price of being a famous classical musician.

“It’s because you’re young and hot,” NHS reminds him during an event they’re both obligated to attend when he expresses his disinterest at his 15k followers.

Lan Zhan doesn’t know what being either of those things has to do with his field.

No one is looking at his face when he’s playing music!

It’s late and he’s stuck in an airport. Despite having a set bedtime, he’s not the type to sleep while in public, and the annoyance and disregulation of the flight delay have made it so he’s having trouble focusing on reading. In a rare instance, he ends up scrolling his socials.

Wei Wuxian is trending #1.

Lan Zhan doesn’t know who that is so he ignores it.

“Dizi” is trending #5. Lan Zhan’s eyebrows go up in vague surprise. He’s aware of how little the world cares about traditional music, even if he thinks they’re all wrong. So of course he clicks on it.

The video that opens is of a man playing something slow and upbeat on a dizi. His expression shows that he’s entranced with the music he’s playing and that he’s enjoying himself.

And oh

Oh

He’s beautiful.

It should NOT matter to Lan Zhan. He’s only ever cared about the music. But it matters. It feels like the dizi is being jabbed into his solar plexus with every second the man plays with his lovely face and long, graceful fingers

He finishes the video, surprised to see it’s almost 4 minutes long. The man holds his final note with impressive breath control. Then he laughs, gasping for breath. “It’s been ages since I’ve tried that” he says.

It hits LZ that this isn’t a normal video

Or, it’s far too professional of a set up for most amateur instrument players. Compared to his own v expensive marketing the lighting and sound is 🙌🏻 quality.

Lan Zhan glances down to read the discription to find the man’s name.

Wei Wuxian.

He isn’t clueless about the internet. He realizes that wwx must be someone. Someone big enough to trend #1 and make the word dizi trend at all. He should dismiss it as a lovely moment and move on.

He doesn’t dismiss it.

Instead, he watches it again.

He goes back to trending topics and clicks into the WWX tag.

He watches more videos. He reads comments.

He learns.

By the time his flight boards he's learned:

WWX is an idol turned actor

He's never played the dizi publicly before

His fans aren't shocked to learn he CAN because he typically pulls out random skills from no where

LWJ is SUPER attracted to him.

Before he gets on the plane he likes the video and it feels like a big deal. He stares at it for a moment and thinks about sharing it.

He thinks, and thinks, and ends up feeling like it's too big of a step that would tell all his followers exactly how he feels.

(worse, it would also tell his brother, who sometimes teases him for being young and so disconnected from modern music.)

That should be the end of it. He airport-exhaustion flirts with being attracted to an actor, he rationalizes himself out of it in the cold light of day.

It's not the end of it.

He's standing in the corridor w his guqin when wwx's entourage arrives, walking quickly past.

He looks.

His heart races. His palms sweat.

wwx meets his eyes and smiles, friendly & impersonal.

lwj stands there after he leaves for what feels like a long time but prob isn't.

He thinks about it for days. should he have said something? should he have asked for his ad hoc contract to include 5 minutes of time?

It all seems so impossible. force inserting himself into a moment of wwx's life makes him feel ill.

LXC asks him if he'd be willing to play a few songs at his boyfriend's brother's son's bday party, stresses that he's not the entertainment. He agrees. It's very likely that LXC will force him along to socialize and at least if he's playing he won't need to talk.

The Jins are ostentatious; the party is not.

"friends & family," lxc explains. "JYL's brother is famous. you don't know him."

he WOULDN'T, his brother is right. He doesn't think about the surety of the phrasing until he walks through the door and comes face to face with WWX.

LWJ stills.

WWX pauses mid-sentence and looks at him. "I saw you at the fanmeet," he blurts out, surprised.

Everyone turns to stare at him. His ears flame hot. "I recorded the guqin piece."

He doesn't say how beautiful wwx is in person

"Oh thank you! I know it was so last minute. A lifesaver. A prince!" wwx effuses.

This seems to be a good enough explanation for everyone but LXC who is still staring at him. He feels pleased. His brother can tell.

He bows briefly at the praise.

Later, wwx approaches where he's sitting. "I thought you might like to hear the song."

"I heard it," he says. Wishes he hadn't. wwx was going to play it for him and he spoke without thinking. He knows better.

"Oh, did your management share it?"

"It's online."

It isn't online.

Or, it is online, but only in a certain kind of fan recording.

"You wanted to hear it that badly?"

Yes. It's the cumulation of both their talents. He's never felt that level of impatience in his life. "Yes," he says simply.

"OH!" wwx gasps delighted. "It's so good, isn't it?"

"Mn," he agrees.

"I'm going to release it. Do a concert with me!" WWX asks, shining. "Oh! An album!"

He can't. "I follow you on social media," he tells wwx, tone grave.

"You say that like it's bad. 30 million ppl follow me on social media." He pulls out his phone. Frowns.

"It doesn't say we're mutuals," he shows LWJ.

LWJ pulls out his phone and shows it to WWX.

"A FAN ACCOUNT" WWX crows in delight. "oh my god that's amazing. That's so good. You have to make music with me now that I know you like me. Yes, right? You're going to say yes?"

"Yes."

He doesn't realize until later, when he's home and still reeling from how overwhelming wwx's presence is, that he doesn't have a new follower notification on his main account.

How long has wwx been following him?

"Oh, since you played at [x] Gala two years ago. You were breathtaking. I was a guest." wwx tells him when he finally asks. "You didn't notice?"

"No."

"Haha I asked your brother when I met him and he said you wouldn't." wwx thinks this is the most hilarious thing.

"You notice me now, right gege?" wwx asks, fluttering his eyelashes.

LWJ kisses him.

I felt inspired.

LWJ... Is that you? 🤔

Saw this on Facebook and instantly thought of LWJ doing this after moving house and noticing a tired, worryingly skinny fox trying to get comfortable under a peony shrub in his new garden.

Foxxian can't believe his luck! The next night he visits he finds a plush, comfy basket and snuggly blankets that smell like sandalwood nestled in amongst the shelter of the pink peonies. The night after that, there is fruit and vegetables (green ones he refuses to eat - he's hungry, but he's not THAT hungry). The night after that he arrives to find meat, actually MEAT and it's not raw, it's been cooked. It's so tender and tasty and foxxian can't gobble it down fast enough before he falls asleep all cosy in his heavenly scented bed, curled up amongst the layers of soft blankets.

Just as his sharp eyes slowly began to close, his belly full and his mind drifting off to the land of nod, he could have sworn he saw a beautiful man approaching him, hand lowered to show he meant no harm.

Long fingers messaged that spot between his pointed ears on the top of his head, the one that he never knew could feel so good to have stroked. He can no longer resist the temptation of sleep, too relaxed to care that someone knelt beside him, smelling just as intoxicating as his new favourite place to sleep.

Before he drifts off into an amazing, warm and comforting dream, he thought he heard the man speak. A deep, alluring voice that made his heart soar.

"Wei Ying..." the handsome man all but whispered.

This voice. This scent. This blurry outline of a lithe, beautiful man. So familiar... So comforting...

His last hazy thought drifted through his mind like a rolling cloud in a clear blue sky... Lan Zhan?

In cql, there is this little scene where the Nie bros have a celebration banquet for their Sunshooting comrades - and the empty table behind Jiang Cheng's is Lan Wangji's.

Lan Wangji is too busy sadly playing the qin in his room to attend, and his absence is noted with people staring at the only empty table that only holds a little pot of tea and no alcohol. Jiang Cheng isn't looking, he's pretending to be too cool to care, and then will be the one to ask about Lan Zhan for the rest of the episode.

If Lan Wangji was sitting there, Jiang Cheng's sprawling robes that gently drape over the leg of Lan Wangji's empty table could have been in reach. Not that I ever think about that. Lan Wangji would also spend most of his evening with a beautiful view of purple and neck and back. Not that I ever think about that either.

Why is Lan Wangji supposed to sit there anyway? Nie bros did it to torture me. Nie Mingjue: Those two heroically fought side-by-side for three months. They must sit together to endure this prolonged exchange of unnecessary pleasantries and look forward to discussing battle strategies together!!! Nie Huaisang: Sure, let's squeeze Jiang Yanli and Wei Wuxian on one table to make it happen!

Or worse even, if Jiang Cheng saved Lan Wangji a seat there.
