devan bumping into people was rare, but it happened every now and again. normally they were good about paying attention to their surroundings, slipping up every now and again. it seemed that they were overdue for one, and as their shoulder gently grazed another person's, they shot them an apologetic look.
"sorry about they," devan muttered, cheeks flushing a soft pink color. "i was trying to avoid someone else. the irony, right?"

Nature knows how to surprise - fragile and amazing frost flowers, "bloom" right on the ice.
Frost flowers are a special type of frost, which is a deposit of small ice crystals, groups of which often resemble tree leaves or flowers. Most often they appear on loose bare soil, as well as in general in places where warm soil air comes out due to condensation and freezing of water vapor. In addition, frost flowers can be observed on the ice cover of rivers and lakes along cracks and wormwood. Flowers are formed on a frosty night due to the large difference in air and water temperature. They are bizarre shapes, reminiscent of petals of white inflorescences with sharp edges. Each petal is the thinnest plate of ice with veins, just like a real leaf. In fact, water crystals are formed in such an unusual way. Leaf-shaped snow crystals can grow in 100% humidity and no fog. According to meteorologists, these ice flowers are a fleeting phenomenon. They will disappear immediately after the ice thickness increases.

every single day that passed for the last twelve years had left devan feeling haunted. sometimes she was convinced that her childhood with nixon had been a fever dream, that maybe he'd been her imaginary friend that entire time, and now she was a crazy person just trying to hold onto his memory. but that would mean those letters she kept from him weren't real, and that the picture she had of the two of them taped next to her bed wasn't real, and that her guitar wasn't real. devan refused to believe that she could make something so important up, and so she chose to just keep remembering him. the love she had for nixon was unforgettable.
the way his breath hit the back of her neck made devan's skin come alive. his voice was something she'd committed to memory, and while it may be deeper these days, she knew it was him. what was she supposed to do here? turn around and take in the sight of him? devan hadn't seen nixon since before they both reached puberty, and they weren't entirely sure they were ready to face him just yet. nixon was still that ghost that coasted along the seashore of her mind, and she was scared of what would happen if she turned to him. "this thing ends just before the sun goes down, so i don't think there'll be any parties." she finally spoke with a shaky voice, turning slowly so she could lift her gaze to meet his. suddenly devan was ready to fall hard and fast, and she could only hope that nixon would be right along beside her. "what are you doing here, nix?"
who: @exmcrtis ( devan )
where: lake party
does she remember me? it was the first thought that had crossed his mind when he saw devan again. after a month in hillbilly hell, he still hadn't approached her to find out. despite the town's size it wasn't that hard to avoid her so far. probably better that way, even if she did remember him he wasn't the boy he was all those years ago nor the one who wrote to her after he left. or at least that's not the person he showed the rest of the world. the perfectly imperfect procured mask and image of overconfidence and privilege. that's who he was now.
still, that question nagged him. itched at the back of his mind enough to get in line behind her after a solid amount of liquid courage and lack of inhibition took control. he leaned forward and spoke low while her back was still to him. ❝ anyone ever tell you that you have the type of eyes that could haunt someone? ❞ and they had, because he had written it at least once. those dark caramel hues were like windows right into the soul. nixon straightened and cleared his throat. hoping his liquor soaked tongue didn't make him slur his words. ❝ hear of any parties happening when this wraps? ❞ he smirked and locked his hands behind his back, waiting to see if she actually remembered him or not ( without letting on that he most definitely remembered her ).

Prayers•
Prayer 1
Welcome beloved Artemis, our keen-eyed queen, I beg you hear me now. I pray you guide me that I might find the way. I pray you strengthen me that I might persevere along it. Make my discernment as yours that I might find worthy aims. Make my instinct as yours that I might seize worthy opportunities. Welcome sister of Apollo, golden huntress, we honor and thank you.
Prayer 2
Fleet-footed Artemis, keen-eyed daughter of Zeus and gentle Leto, sister of bright Apollo, we see your shadow in the woods, the curve of your bow, the flex of your arm, we hear the wind whisper as your arrows seek their mark–deadly your art, flawless your aim. Huntress you are, O Artemis, slayer of the stag and the boar, slayer of men and of women, death by your hand is death unforeseen. Maiden are you, goddess, and friend of maidens; ever-youthful one, your favor falls on the young, watching over young girls as they brave the world’s wonders, comforting the mother in the throes of her labor, keeping in your care the newborn babe. Artemis, shining maid of the wilderness, who takes pleasure in games, in contest and in merriment, who leads the nymphs in their carefree dance, whose clear voice we hear in the songs of young women and the hunter’s cry. Artemis, strong and tall, I praise and honor you.
3rd Prayer
I praise bright Artemis, fair as the budding branch, fair as the spotted fawn, brave as the young bear. From crafty Hephaistos you took the artful bow, the sharp-barbed shafts; from father Zeus you claimed your calling. Far-shooting Artemis, through the thick of the darkened wood you make your way, trailing boar and hare, swiftly and silently, your aim ever flawless, ever kind.
Prayer 4
Artemis, light-bringer, mountain-dweller, graceful one who runs through thorn and thistle with never a scratch, goddess unparalleled, friend of mothers in their travels, friend of maidens, friend of the pretty nymphs, in old Arcadia you roamed the wilderness, in Tauris you took the blood of men, in Ephesus you wore the mural crown. The fire of youth is in you, goddess, the bold and valiant spirit that marks a child as yours. Free-hearted Artemis, worthy daughter of Leto, I honor you always.
5th Prayer
I praise you, Artemis, free-hearted child of Zeus and blessed Leto, courageous goddess who roams the wildwoods with silver bow at hand. Artemis of many names, Artemis of many lands, your temples stood shining and tall, in cities and in villages. In the long days of summer the maidens dance in your honor; in Brauron were the little she-bears under your care. Artemis, the mountains are yours to wander, fleet-footed and firm of step; the wilds of the world are dear to you, O guardian of wood and of beast. Goddess who takes joy in dance and song, companion of the laughing nymphs in all their play, of all young maids you are the swiftest and the strongest, the fairest and the first, in skill and grace the greatest.

Artemis who is the light, and the arrow in the bow, and the bullet in a hunting gun, and the same string In a lyre and a bow. May we all praise the wise huntress, Who is gentle to young girls and the bringer of Swift death from her golden bow.

My Dearest Hazel,
It had been quite some time since our last correspondence, I apologize for that. Many things had changed for the better, some overwhelming, others miniscule.
My residence had switched from the amber leaves of Liyue to the clear blue lakes of Fontaine, for starters. Perhaps this is why your letters, if you had sent some, had not reached my new residence. Fear not, I shall let you know briefly of the new address you may send them to!
There were many trials and tribulations that we had encountered in the Nation of Justice--Getting used to Operatic Trials, learning the many different pathways of Fleuve Cendre, and learning how to explore the vast waters along with the creatures in it. The first time Childe had encountered one of the Local Legends, let me tell you how absolutely giddy he was at the challenge presented to him, I swear that man...
Speaking of him, once more I shall need your help in perhaps a dabble of witchery for this man's own good. Childe had encountered such troublesome things upon our arrival, you'd swear that he is a magnet for misfortune, tsk, tsk.
As such, I shall help you pick out what you need for the ritual, as per usual.
A dash of Black Torumaline, a pinch of Dalmation, and perhaps a spoonful of Wormwood to help balance out this man.
Attached to this letter is the mora for your service (do tell me if your rates had increased, I shall send another to cover the missing expenses!) and hopefully, I shall await your good reply just like old times.
Your friend from afar, F----

Black Tourmaline (safety, shielding), Dalmatian stone (loyalty, family), Wormwood (nightmares) Childe x Gn Reader | Protection Ritual Warning: nightmares (childe wakes from one), very fluffy, angst/comfort (extra dose on the comfort), childe's real name used
The cool air caressed your skin - gentle, lapping ripples of mountain streams, chilled by falling snow. You adjusted in bed and pulled the blankets around you, but before settling again, a strange noise drew your attention.
A soft whimper, heavy breathing. The bed jerked, creaked. You rose, shivered at the rudeness of the night, and peered into the darkness of the bedroom. Another sharp breath and the room became washed in amber and shadows.
Childe was on his back, one hand resting on his bare chest, the other twitched at his side. He turned his head away from you, then back, and bore pain on his face as he did so. Knitted brows, disheveled hair against a sweaty forehead, feathering jaw stopping only when he parted his lips to take in a quick breath. He mumbled something but you couldn’t make it out.
“Ajax,” you called to him quietly but he didn’t respond. He just fidgeted, his fingers pressing into his stomach as his chest rose and fell like tormented waves. You twisted and slid your hand along his tense, twitching forearm until your palm covered the back of his scarred hand. “Ajax,” you said, whispered near his head as you pressed your face near his temple and ran your fingers through his hair.
Whatever plagued him seemed to get worse. He turned into you and you could feel his breath against your skin. Closing your eyes, you wrapped your fingers around his hand and squeezed, brushed his hair from his forehead, and murmured reassurances near scrunched eyes.
His body jerked and he pulled away from your face fiercely, his eyes wide and shimmering. Every muscle in his body went tense at the same time, his fingers like a vice-grip as he held your hand against his chest.
“You’re okay, it’s okay,” you said calmly as you held his eyes while he searched for clarity in the torrent. “It was a dream. Just a dre-” Childe cut you off by pulling you against him. His arm coiled around your waist, desperate fingers digging into your back as his face buried itself in the crook of your neck. He was trembling.
You’d seen him have nightmares before. Found him awake and standing next to the window, sitting in a chair with his head in his hands. Always alone, disconnected. At first, you thought it better to let him be. To leave him to settle in the ways he had before you entered his life but after the third time, you couldn’t bring yourself to stay in the warmth of a bed he was unable to lay in.
So you moved to him, carefully, tenderly, slowly.
He seemed surprised by your action. Almost in disbelief when you stepped in between the clouded blue window so you could cup his face. He tensed then too. His shoulders, his back, his hands. As if he were a wounded animal trying so hard to hold back the violence lying in wait.
“Go back to bed,” he said, his voice strained and tight. “I will when you do,” you replied, passing your fingers under his tired eyes. He smirked and looked back to the window. “It might be a while,” he said in his usual, laid-back tone but you could feel the edges of his words and how they were laced with bitterness. You wondered then how many nightmares he had suffered through unaccompanied. “Then I’ll wait.” Childe met your eyes, searched them as if looking for a break in your resolve. But you had none. “For as long as it takes. I’ll be here.” Childe’s eyes flickered back to the window. He breathed, swallowed, and then reached for you. Embraced you in a wash of blue, held you in the quiet of the evening and you held him back. For as long as he needed, you stayed with him and spoke nothing of the warm drops of water that fell against your arm.
To Childe, the 11th Harbinger, nightmares were as common as the rising sun. But he rarely let them command him, so, when they did, when the bearable became too heavy, you vowed to carry the extra weight - however you were able.
You pressed your cheek against the top of his head and wiggled your arm until you could drag your nails along his scalp, through his wild locks, and over his ear. “I’m here,” you said against him, hummed them like a song in the still air. “I’m here, Ajax.”
Childe slid his arm out from under you so he could hold you tighter, closer. Your leg found warmth between his, your arm slipped beneath his neck and coiled to hold his head against your chest. And he turned into you, became lost in you as you reeled him in.
The warm light filled the room as if it were fighting to keep the shadows at bay but, little did you realize, you were the same. In the darkest spaces of Childe’s mind, you were the barrier, the holder of life and brightness. Where once his world was saturated in hues of deep, midnight blue, you managed to bloom, and now, when the murk threatens to swallow him all he has to do is call out your name and there you are, blinding and radiant to guide him home.
For you my dear friend, I see nothing other than the two of you. Love and adoration that holds no equal. Should there be a more perfect match for him, I dare the stars to show me - for it will always be you <3
To Ajax's wife, and my darling love, F.

What are your favourite kinds of tea and how would you rank them?
(you can't ask me about tea and not get hit with a wall of text. so... enjoy)
I don't really rank teas, I think tea should be picked for the occasion, depending on the season, company, scenery, food pairing (if there's any), the quality and type of water available, etc. There isn't really a single best option.
Also good teas are a lot like wine, it matters a lot who made it and how. A simple variety that is processed with proper care and is fresh will be better than a low-grade or old tea of a fine variety.
That said, if I had to pick favorites...
Wu Yi oolongs. You just can't beat that flavour profile, the mix of flowers, roasted nuts and what they call "cliff melody" (basically Wu Yi mountains terroir). They are complex, versatile (some teas can be ruined by water that's too hard or to soft, with these guys it just draws out a different part of the flavour spectrum) and pair with anything. Proper tea ceremony? Perfect. Something to serve to guests with mild blue cheese and some nuts? Even better, cheese enhances the flower aspects, it's honestly better than any wine pairing. Casual cup that goes together with vegetables roasted with herbs (yes, I sometimes drink tea with my dinner)? Great as well.
My favorites would probably be Wu Yi Shui Xian (daffodil, a bit of dried plum and a bit of gentle smoke), Roi Gui (eglantine and cinnamon, roasted notes, a bit of malt) and Da Hong Pao (this one is tricky, the versions of DHP you can get your hands on without being a government official are all blends, so technically it can mean anything, but most versions keep a lovely balance of smoke, sweetness, currant flowers and metallic notes). Bei Dou if I can find it (bisquit, oak, orchid, smoke, a bit of minerality).
Jin Jun Mei. My autumn favorite, the *prettiest* tea in the universe when done right, with notes of malt, rye bread, and wild strawberies, usually still very good when done wrong (chocolate, rose, physalis plants, orchid...).
Dong Ding oolong, one that I would use for introducing someone to fine teas. Freshly cut grass, wild honey, a touch of caramel and what I can only describe as a feeling of cold wind from a lake. Delicate and ridiculously pretty.
Hei Cha, "true" black teas that are more fermented than even pu-erh. Teas of bordelines dwellers and northern barbarians and I am one, after all. "Korla Pear" Hua Zhuan is my latest favorite. Wood and pear notes, one can't really describe it. Lu Bao if you live in a dry climate and let it sit on a shelf for a couple of years is also very good (wet autumn leaves, ink, charcoal and snowdrop flowers). Don't ever drink it fresh, it's awful and bitter and has a note of rotten vegetables. If you can forget it on a shelf for twenty years it's a transcendent experience and I can't recommend it enough.
Anything white, really. White teas are a very special art. They are pretty much tea herbarium. They are made with next to no processing and mostly are just gently dried in the sun, so you get the purest interpretation of the leaf itself. This leads to... experiments. There are the classics, like Bai Mu Dan with its notes of peony, wormwood and plant milk. There's the experience of drinking teas gathered before Ching Ming (if the year is good), the first tea of the year with its gentle minerality that's a bit like the scent of thawing snow.
There are insane things like letting them age for years like you would shen pu-erhs (Yin Zhen is honestly better in this version, if you ask me), I can't really describe that scent, it's wildflowers and autumn leaves both and something that feels like a mix of wormwood fluff and dried strawberries.
There are leaves that would normally be used for pu-erhs processed as white teas and these tend to have lovely cantaloupe and honey flavour. Honestly, the fun part about white teas is often not just the taste but how punk are the things teamakers do with the leaf and the fact you can taste nuances that would be otherwise overshadowed by the processing technology.
Chinese yellow teas. I actually don't remember names, I used to pick them by scent. Some have a "flowers and ink" scent that is very precious to me.
I think that's about it. I can't choose a single favorite between these.

Farewell! My unfinished song!

Aitmatov, Chingiz: ‘You my poplar in the red headscarf' was originally published in 1970, this version was translated into German by Yuri Elperin in 1986.
'There was only us, our happiness, the sky and the path. I opened the door, let her take a seat and got behind the wheel. We drove off without a destination. But what did it matter, it was enough for us to sit next to each other, look into each other's eyes and hold hands (…) The car flew along as fast as an arrow. The whole world was in motion, everything was rushing towards us: The mountains, the fields and the trees. The wind whistled in our ears, the sun shone in the sky, we laughed and breathed in the scent of wormwood and tulips. A steppe vulture, perched on the ruins of an old Kümbös, took off with a few beats of its wings and glided along the path as if it wanted to race us.'

One of the most touching memories of my childhood are the old Turkish films from the 70s that I watched with my mother. I particularly remember the film adaptation of the book ‘Al yazmalim’ and when we watched the film again two years ago, we both cried and mountains of handkerchiefs sprang up on our laps. It's been a long time since I read a novel, but I devoured the letters to the end in one go and the tears kept blurring my vision. The contrast between the impetuosity of the protagonist and the fair grace of ‘his chulpan’, his morning star, with the uplifting description of the steppe in connection with the landscape of his own soul was an indescribable experience. Through the life in the Kyrgyz Ail and through his grandmother, with whom Aitmatow grew up for a time, he was deeply rooted in the life of the nomads and learnt about the extremely rich oral storytelling tradition of the Kyrgyz. In his narrative, he shows the colourfulness and pronounced solidarity of nomadic life, which takes on a new meaning under the changed conditions (the side effects of modernity, changed infrastructure and systematisation). His basic humanist attitude is reflected throughout, and he is particularly critical of the problem of marriage, which fundamentally ignores the female part and places decision-making power in the hands of the parents and the future husband.
‘On the day I left, I went to the lake. I stood on the hill close to the water and said goodbye to the mountains of Tienshan and Issyk-Kul. Farewell, Issyk-Kul, my unfinished song! How I would love to take you with me, with your blue water and your yellow shores, but that is denied to me, just as I cannot take the love of my nearest and dearest with me. Farewell, Asselj! Farewell, you my poplar in the red headscarf! Be happy!’

Kupala Night: A Vibrant Slavic Holiday and Its Magical Rituals
BY LENA LENARD
upala Night begins with lighting the “holy fires” in forest clearings as well as on the banks of rivers and lakes. Participants strike fire from ash, birch, or oakwood. In sacred places, they drive birch pegs into the ground and place ash hubs on them—that is, wheels with spokes wrapped in tarred straw. They spin the wheels so fast that the friction causes them to burn. They roll the burning wheels to nearby piles of wood and straw—symbols of home and hearth—and flames burst into the sky, sparking and roaring, symbolizing a new, clean home and hearth. At the same time, there’s singing and dancing. Women collect magical herbs and flowers. They weave wreaths and gird themselves with wormwood.
It’s a night of celebration and erotic awakening, with all-night revelries among the smoke of bonfires and the intoxicating smells of a summer night outdoors. In the past, marriages were arranged by the head or the elders of the family and matchmakers… but for the young women who had not yet been engaged and wanted to avoid the usual form of mating, here, among the flame and flowers, was a chance to win a loved one. A boy might even “kidnap” a dancing girl from around the fire and try to woo her.
