Alternate Laimo- Flags!

We weren’t massive fans of the current laimo- flags, so we made alternate ones.

laimo-: a prefix describing an identity where an individual is unsure if they are on the specific attraction’s spectrum due to not knowing what the specified attraction type is.

This can be due to:

not being able to distinguish between the specified attraction type and other forms of attraction

being unsure what the specified attraction type “feels like" or how it applies to oneself

being able to use external sources to determine what the specified attraction type objectively feels like, but not having any internal ways to know when one is feeling that type of attraction

someone who generally doesn't understand what the concept of attraction of any kind means to them, and so can't tell whether they feel the specified attraction type

someone who has difficulty distinguishing between attraction, relationships, and different kinds of acts, so they can't tell if they experience the specified attraction type or if they experience something else

anyone who doesn't understand what the specified attraction type is and/or feels like and feels like because of that, they don't know whether they feel that attraction type and can't determine any specifications of their attraction

hey! probably aspec sapphic (particularly lesbian) here. would you have any advice in determining identity when you’re unsure what romantic attraction tells like? i think i may be feeling romantic attraction to someone i met, but i’m kinda confused if it’s even romantic attraction or maybe just platonic with aesthetic attraction. like a week ago we just had this really nice conversation and we clicked really well together (had lots in common in terms of perspectives on things, which is uncommon for me with others), and ever since then i’ve been thinking i might like her? but in what way?! aesthetic attraction was already there, but i didn’t consider the whole crush part until we got a bit closer…

hey there! so honestly, attraction is weird, and we have labels for specific kinds, but sometimes attraction just is! it can be difficult to tell, but if determining the exact type is stressful remember there's no pressure to do so because all forms of attraction are equally awesome and whatever you're feeling you deserve to explore!

that being said, i do know of a few terms you might be interested in! there's laimoromantic, when you don't know if you're experiencing romantic attraction because you don't know what romantic attraction feels like and don't know how to find out, and platoniromantic, when you are having a difficult time telling the difference between platonic and romantic attraction, so it's kinda just a grey smudge of both and that's coolio!

i have this thing where i never know what type of attraction, if any, i'm feeling.

for example, i've told many people that i've never had a crush before, but to be honest, i was never really sure how true that actually was. it made me wonder if maybe i'd had a crush before and just didn't know i was experiencing romantic attraction, or any attraction really.

is something common among aromantics? i'm wondering because i'm not sure if it's part of my "love" identity (i really don't know what to call it, sorry) or maybe something else (possibly to do with my mental health).

Considering the existence of labels like quoiromantic, platoniromantic, idemromantic, laimoromantic, nebularomantic, quasiromantic, and the like - yes, it's certainly not uncommon or unheard of.

Even apart from that, many folk find it much harder to identify the lack of presence of an attraction versus the presence of one, and I think this is especially true for aromanticism. With asexuality, it's a bit easier because although sex isn't always done as a result of sexual attraction, it is a pretty concretely defined action to desire. Sex is sex. Whereas with romance, actions can be platonic or romantic, romantic or sexual, romantic or alterous, etc. There's no specific action when we think of romance that defines it like with sexuality. It's a bit more vague and abstract of a concept, so it can be harder to pin down "what exactly are these feelings" and even "what do I want as a result of these feelings"? It's also what led to folk creating lists like these ones to help.

There are always exceptions, but with your typical alloro, that confusion is pretty rare. It may happen occasionally but for the most part, the feelings are pretty obvious and they happen often enough to be obvious. Whereas arospec folk can be trying to judge off of none or only one or maybe a handful of experiences, further compounding their confusion.
