Random question that I could probably Google, but does anyone know what would happen if a party has a big majority in an election and win, but their party leader didn't get elected in their constituency? Is there any kind of protocol for that happening or is it something that ever has happened?

#not that i think it would happen at all but im just curious about if in theory it did #like say starmer lost his seat but labour got massive majority #would party leader still be pm despite not being an mp? or would they have to get a new party leader from elected mps?

I miss 2019 when I was actually feeling generally positive about voting labour. obviously the result (nationwide and in my constituency) was awful but at least I could feel pretty good about what my vote was going towards. whereas now I'm voting knowing that labour will certainly win the election and have a good chance at my seat and yet it doesn't really feel good at all :/

#obviously 2019 labour was not perfect!!! but they did at least feel like a true opposition and a suggestion of actual change #just trying to remind myself that my labour candidate is better than my tory candidate and one less tory mp is still a positive #(and the last 5 years have shown that the leader isn't guaranteed to stay for 5 years so if kier leaves at least the options would #be further left than we've been having for years)#but still it's a shame that the past year's local elections + this election have been the first time in my (albeit short) voting lifetime #that the tories have been losing and my local area has been shifting and yet it doesn't feel celebratory #it's more like oh well at least it's not getting worse #ANYWAY if anyone in a safe labour seat wants to vote green or even lib dem and tell me about it so i can live vicariously through you #then that would be lovely <3 #talking #uk politics

the uk government has decided that not enough palestinians have yet been killed by israel - obviously 11500 dead, including 4710 children, is too paltry a number.

Greg looked at Tom’s finger, which was so near his face he could have bitten it if he wanted to. “So, um—”

“So I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing shitty gloves. Come on. Are you going to let me down, Greg?”

“No,” Greg said.

He wondered if Tom would pivot the point into a bracing, bro-ey clap upon the shoulder. Perhaps when he remembered his outstretched finger he would look at it like an alien traitor and draw back in a twitchy, awkward retreat. That eyeglint was still there, though, so what he did instead was step forward again and wag the finger in Greg’s face.

“Good boy,” he said, because he was really proficient at this—like, maybe it’s not corporate gaslighting, but it’s not not that, right? It was a mixed message, anyway: a stern finger and firm praise; his cruel and friendly gleam. He was proprietary; he disavowed. So, like, how the fuck was Greg to know whether to sit or stay or roll over?
