he is my most favouritest sopping wet cat Yang Ze played by Ji Chen in L.O.R.D Critical World (2019) - an absolute nonsense (affectionate) chinese fantasy series that I truly could not explain if I tried and tend to just introduce to people by watching this clip cos that pretty much sets the tone

He's Hot! He's Gay! He's Traumatised!

He's a prince in hiding leading a rebel organisation and trying to avenge the deaths of his parents and save his country (which sometimes puts him at odds with the main character he's in love friends with) and he's handling all of that responsibility and conflict of interest Really Well™

he's pretty much always having the absolute worst time and spends a full half of the scenes he's in tearing up or full blown sobbing his eyes out

literally the only times he's happy is when he's with his boyfriend bestie who he swears brotherhood with whilst naked in a pool which they broke into and then nearly get caught in

also when his boyfriend bestie asks him to buy him dinner he responds by doing this - normal heterosexual behaviour

also he's just straight up beautiful and the only man in this drama who didn't have to wear a wig

he is fully the most compelling character in the show and I promise i'm not just saying that cos i'm biased

in conclusion, i love him

Even a couple of years later, I'm still in love with L.O.R.D. Critical World because it pushed so many of my buttons.

Not only did it feature Zhang Mingen in a fantastic main part but it also showed something I've never seen done anywhere before: a soul bond between the two male leads that wasn't just a by-the-by thing but an important part of the main plot and of their characterization. And when that bond was broken at one point, the stoic one in that relationship went absolutely ballistic.

And also, it showed the progress of several disciples from complete nincompoops to awesome Lords where they young'uns became the movers and makers of their world. Like, we saw the actual path they took to reach their position, all the highs and lows. That was just so fascinating!

I wish there were more fantasy dramas like this one. I do like me a romance driven xianxia/wuxia but lately, they all seem the same...

name/nicknames: on the internet I'm almost always Lucien Telrunya or Luci, a real life nickname is 'Angel' or 'Angely'. My real name doesn't have any short forms and I don't like it, I prefer Luci.

fandoms: Hmmm, currently I'm very deep into various C-Dramas, mostly DMBJ (the only one I've written for so far), but also Guardian, MDZS, L.O.R.D. Critical World, Tientsin Mystic. I also still like Stranger Things (when will I ever finish my fics for that, I wonder) or various video games like Final Fantasy VII, VIII or XII.

two shots?: I'm not sure if this means something that is divided into two chapters? Then: None. I tend to write long ass things, even though I really tried my hand at a few one-shots.

most popular multi-chapter fic: That would be my first ever tumblr-post that started 'Like a lonely house' and also my first fic posted to AO3. I was so surprised by all the reactions here on tumblr and also on AO3, it really encouraged me to write more.

actual worst part of writing: oooof. I don't really know. Guess it depends on the mood? Sometimes it's trying to connect two scenes that popped up in my head. Sometimes it's trying to put something that's playing inside my head on repeat into words. Sometimes it's getting started with writing at all. Or endings. Or summaries......

how do you choose your titles: By looking at poetry or lyrics and trying to find a line that resonates and just feels right. Sometimes it's easy ('Like a lonely house' was easy), most times it's really hard (it took me forever to find 'We go deeper than the ink beneath the skin of our tattoos' and then I wasn't sure if it was too long for a title, but it fit so perfectly that I didn't care in the end).

do you outline?: A little. I mostly have a vague idea what I want and then I see where that takes me. Or I have some scenes/things I want to happend and I need to write a story around them.

ideas you probably won’t get around to, but wouldn’t it be nice?: The Hei Xiazi/Zhang Rishan Immortals AU (I really, really want to read that, but I don't think I could write it, I feel like I couldn't do Hei Xiazi justice). Probably the whole Fo Ye, Ba Ye and Rishan in a tomb losing sight, hearing and voice and having to find their way out of the tomb. I still love the idea, but it's such a nebulous concept, I don't even know what would happen. But maybe this year will surprise me, who knows. There was also an idea for a fic about Wen Ning (MDZS) getting turned back into a living person and having to navigate all the things that come with that again.

best writing traits: I have no idea?

spicy tangential opinion: Ummm... It is spicy to say I don't get many of the various AUs in which the characters are gender-swapped or otherwise so heavily changed that they barely resemble the original character and I just wonder why people don't just write original fiction? Back when I wrote a lot of originals with my RP-partner we always had certain actors in mind (mostly even in a certain role) and imagined our character to look like them.

L.O.R.D Critical World Episode 18: Waking up.

Sorry, I haven’t posted anything in like... a month, but first I went on vacation for three weeks and then I spent another binge-watching L.O.R.D Critical World, and let me tell you, that was a wild ride.

The plot is really cool, with some twists, that I definitely didn’t see coming (...well, most of them). I don’t want to go into details because of spoilers, but the basic plot is that an essentially normal guy becomes the disciple of a powerful magician/lord and they go on adventures together.

Our protagonist Qi Ling/Kynil (depending on the sub) is also very likeable and funny and probably the definition of a cinnamon roll, too good for this world, too pure, but seeing him grow past that into a powerful magician was a joy to watch.

The other characters were also mostly cool and intriguing, except for Reya and Spector/Lord II (Idk his name, the subtitles I had called him that, can someone please tell me if that’s his real name? Asking for a fic). I really didn’t like them and wanted them to go off screen, whenever they were on. My favourite was Qi Ling and after him probably his Lord Yin Chen.

The dynamics between the characters were really nice and this is one of the few shows, where I looked at two girl characters together and immediately went: “I ship it”.

On that note: This may be a C-Drama and thus suffers from censorship, but let it be known, they let a lot slide past them. Seriously. There is this one scene, which I think is hilarious, where Qi Ling gifts a girl with a hairband and it’s really cute and sorta romantic and then he turns around to talk to his male best friend and the guy just asks him, if he’ll buy him one too. Like... that had way more chemistry. He and his best friend in general have a lot more romantic chemistry than he and any girl in the cast.

He also has more chemistry with his lord Yin Chen and though a lot of people ship them, I can’t really bring myself to do it, because I really like their relationship as it is portrayed in the show and I’m a sucker for found family, sue me.

So, yeah, I’d definitely would recommend this show if you like fantasy and also if you like the Untamed, because Qi Ling does give off a lot of Wei Wuxian vibes.

8/10, will definitely rewatch some scenes on loop.

Last Movie: We had a family movie night last night and watched Boss Baby 2 🤣 It was really cute and ridiculous. I also set up the kitchen like a movie theater lobby and sold my kids popcorn and candy and made them give me coins (that they got from my husband on the other side of the house, lol). It was extra but I am extra so it's fine 🤣

Currently Reading: Qian Qiu and Fox Demon Cultivation Manual. I have a few translated chapters to catch up on but I'm basically at the end?? Chapter 117 I think. I really like it but I'm still waiting to find Yan Wushi a redeemable gong/ML 🤣 He's such an asshole. FDCM is sooooooo cuuuuttteeeee, ahhhh. The ML in this is super sweet and caring and the MC is really adorable. The translations I'm dying for though are Han Shan's Sword Unsheathed. It's my favoriteeee and its only translated up to 34 and I think it got dropped. I'm so saaaaaddddddd 😭😭😭 It has such a cute audio drama too, that goes farther than the novel translations.

Currently watching: L.O.R.D. Critical World. I got distracted by it when it showed up in my recommendations....I'm supposed to be watching Tomb of the Sea!! But I really loved the Movie(s? I think there were two??) It feels like I watched it so long ago but I really liked the main characters (Kris Wu as Yin Chen 😍) so I started watching this series....The fringe on the Qi Ling is so intense lol.

Currently craving: I wish tltr had satisfied my bromance hurt/comfort kink 🤣 You can't have just hurt alone, otherwise its just PAIN, lol. That's all reboot was for me...with copious amounts of PangXie/PangEveryone.

Foodwise, maybe tom kha or curry. 🤤

Coffee or Tea? I love both soooo muuuuuch. 🤣 Prettily prepared tea and coffee and the atmosphere you drink them in. It's like a ritual. I have coffee every morning and then herbal tea with honey at night. Sometimes I'll make milk tea in the afternoons. All my mixing spoons are little flowers. I always have to have my favorite mugs. (I have too many mugs because I'm so obsessed with drinking coffee and tea 🙈)

Three Ships:

Pingxie - now that I’m caught up on pretty much every adaptation, I’m amazed that every season has its own unique pinxie theme, from love at first sight in the pilot to widowed spouse gone mad with grief in tomb of the sea. Like I’m not quite at the point where I’ll write fic for it, but it’s getting there. 

Songxiao - I’m still obsessed with the whole - Helian Yi/Jing BeiYuan style - karmic allocation when it comes to Xiao XingChen and Song ZiChen, especially since they were nothing but a side story in mdzs. I’m determined to write a freaking novel featuring their entanglement across seven reincarnations, all set post mdzs.

Fengciu - it’s been like a month since I’ve finished Peerless and I’m still obsessed with them. I don’t understand how any two people can be so brilliant and so stupid at the same time.

I just recently finished watching Vincenzo so I’ve been obsessed with Sung Hoon Choi’s version of Ombra Mai Fu (and have probably listened to Lacrimosa waaay more times than it’s healthy for anyone lol)

The Lost Tomb 2 - I never actually finished watching it the first time around, but had started watching Tomb of the Sea anyway so now I’m watching both sort of simultaneously?

The Long Ballad - it’s not a bad drama, although I’m noticing that people who are WAY more invested in it are people who just REALLY like Wu Lei? And he just... doesn’t do anything for me. The drama is def not bad tho

Thousand Autumns donghua - now that the first season is all out, I’m rewatching from the beginning with mandarin subtitles. It’s taking a LOT longer that way, but at least I’m not subjected to english subtitle atrocities like “fetal weakness”

L.O.R.D. Critical World - literally my third time trying. There’s something about the first few episodes where my ADHD brain just refuses to stay focused, but everyone says it gets better in later episodes so I’m determined to power through it

The Wife Is First - still being translated like one chapter a week, but it’s so worth the wait

Liu Yao: The Revitalization of Fuyao Sect - chichi is moving right along with this translation so I’m paused on like chapter 90? waiting for her to finish (I think there’s only like 9 more chapters left out of 109)  

Nan Chan - I’m moving right along with this one, but I honestly still don’t know if I like it or not. So many people recommended it, and I keep waiting to get really invested, but it’s just not happening yet

I’m also s l o w l y working my way through the pingxie tag on AO3 which like, I know 1.5k fics can seem like a lot to people but I’m an old timer used to filtering through a decade worth of fics featuring 45k works for a side-pairing so like, I’m taking my time bc I’m afraid I’ll run out quickly and then will actually have to WRITE stuff myself 😭

Oh, this was... this was so... First, Yin Chen carried Qi Ling into the cave in his arms. Then he held Qi Ling, rubbing his hand. Then he gave Qi Ling his power to save him, making himself weak in the process. Then, when Qi Ling woke up, Yin Chen held him again, squeezing his hand... 

Gosh, the love these two have for each other makes my heart flutter. And the way Yin Chen whispered those words. I already mentioned that his voice does things to me and I have to repeat that. His voice is so soft, so velvety smooth...

Youtube recced me this trailer for a drama called Phoenix warriors and I thought maybe this is something that you can dig youtu.be/ZZPgD2A9voE I haven't watched it, I don't know if it's worth watching or not, but only for the scifi in ancient fantasy China set up is worth a shot.

first of all, OKAY LOOKS LIKE I'M CHECKING IT OUT

i have not heard of this, and there is always the chance its a total hot mess. you are completely write though in that I rarely ever see sci fi cdramas let alone fantasy combo ones (sci fi fantasy mash is my fave genre and of course to no surprise Guardian is near and dear to my heart)

However - idk how much we will like it. so i will maybe just check out one ep :c I just looked it up on mydramalist and apparently the alien spaceship is in only one scene, the sci fi elements are rarely mentioned, and the drama is mostly Historical/Romance/Tragedy. Now... this was a mydramalist recommendation though so who knows if the show's way better than that, which is sometimes the case. Reviews do say the lead actress did amazing. They also said the overall story is good, the ending is sad which was most people's mixed opinions. For most people the lack of sci fi wasn't an issue (though I kind of lol want sci fi ToT)

(i am always up for mutant, sci fi, sci fi/fantasy mash recommendations if you see any! I already know of: Guardian - very good mix of sci fi/Fantasy and one of my fave shows ever, Bureau of Transformer - sci fi modern era very Star Trek or In The Flesh esque and written intensely well, Rattan - pretty grounded about the mutants premise and very realistic vibe in general, Fairyland Lovers - actually this ones SUPER good they actually kind of play with the extraterrestrial idea and a mix of comedy/heaviness, Demon Girl - I heard its a mutant premise in republican era but haven't seen it yet)

For a sci fi fantasy mash I DO know is a fun time: L.O.R.D. Critical World. Featuring Zhang Ming En as the cutest bastard joxer-like character ever, surprisingly gay, includes a bdsm princess who won't chill whom I love, includes the girl who was in a romance with Sunglasses from the Lost Tomb Reboot who plays a badass here, just in general has some intense Xena smashed with Drakengard vibes. Zhang Ming En's character is kidnapped a lot, the show is comedy and darkness combined and will just be so ridiculously dumb then punch your heart. It's by no means the 'best quality' but its entertaining and Something and managed to suck me in. It's also the only 'old fantasy'/sci fi mashup I cdrama I can think of - which is part of why it reminds me of Xena (old-fantasy/historical-ish but also gods and magic) and Drakengard (heavy fantasy-historical esque vibes but some weird sci fi stuff throughout). Also just the tone - slapstick comedy in a bleak af reality, that sometimes gets to your heart (Drakengard's fucked up party members and dark setting but comedic at times, Xena being so slapstick but set in a warlord torn world with character losses that shatter you, pretty gay).

also apparently??? Main Lord Silver in LORD Critical World is ALSO a main guy in Phoenix Warriors! (Maybe he tends to pick sci fi/fantasy mash stories, in which case I should look into his works more lol)
