Kyle Fletcher rules (and has for a while)

With the attention he’s been getting this year with aew I thought I’d take some time to lay out how I feel his pre AEW/ROH run set him up for success and offer up some recommendations, this is NOT meant to be a hipster “his Indy work was better” or anti aew take I just fucking love sharing and getting recommendations for wrestling

IPW/Defiant

My first exposure to Aussie open was during the IPW UK invasion of defiant around I wanna say 2018. They had some really good matches with CCK and the south coast connection and the entire promotion barring a few shows is completely accessible and honestly really fucking good.

Progress wrestling

I honestly believe that the Swords of Essex vs Aussie Open feud is what got my boys into the United empire, I’m not gonna say LITERALLY ANYTHING OTHER THAN THIS FUCKS SEEK IT OUT ITS ON DEMAND PROGRESS. That aside I think it set up the first big step for Kyle to break out

Mark Davis’s injury and the Paul Robinson feud

Progress had something called the proteus championship where the title holder picked the rule set for their defense, I will confess to not having seen these matches yet for myself but I did watch any related promo content I could find. The defining champion for this belt was a little pitbull by the name of Paul Robinson, he was a viscous little street fighter with an iron jaw so naturally the only way to win was knock out or tap out. Which surprisingly Kyle manages to beat him. I can’t really give much more information but this is around the time he added the grimstone to his moveset.

When progress had a vacant world title you know who they put in a fatal 4 way for it? Cara Noir, ilja dragunov, Paul Robinson, and Kyle Fletcher. He might not have won but he was a credible contender FOR A WORLD TITLE.

Why I don’t think AEWs roster problems affect him right now

Ok look we all know the bloated roster problem for both aew and wwe I’m not gonna beat a dead horse. Instead let break down why I personally don’t think it’s an issue for Kyle Fletcher at the moment.

Honestly it’s because he has too many options, he went toe to toe with mjf so that could turned into a feud to keep both of them busy and legitimize the American championship. But what if it goes nowhere? He’s been ROH tv champ and that could translate very laterally into either a TNT title or an international title. If mark Davis comes back you have one of the best teams of the last few years, you want to know what I would want to see done? Fuck it make him the international champion, make him a killer, you could have him only defend it against non Americans because “you guys already have a belt” use it like the international version of the tnt open challenge, it would be a near perfect way to utilize the partnership with cmll and njpw more often, hell maybe even get some freelance players in for a one off like axel ticher from Germany, augil Leblanc from France (forgive the misspelling). I think that would rule

Spirit -like powerful goddess who knows how humans work due to watching them who fought a fake god and is essentially the train versions of all creation, act’s like a mentor with Kyle (where she’s trying to help release from the lamp thanks to the other Proteus’s) and Lucy (her right hand woman who’s the train Grimm reaper) and is dating a generator scrunkly dude who was a ghost like the others.

I have some questions for Stanley do you ever have flashbacks and nightmares of the war? If so how bad do they tend to get? do you have some sort of comfort item or like a little safe space for you?

Stanley: *looks awkwardly away* Well-yeah kinda, like I’ve struggled with severe anxiety, the amount of panic and anxiety attacks I’ve gotten especially after Kyle’s death, and my jinx definitely didn’t help me out, well some days I have nightmares on that day or when-him-constantly berating me and calling me all sorts of horrid things or when my old manager before I came to the msr-

But Nia and Freddie, they also know-what’s it’s like- I mean they did sortave kindave taught me everything they know(like Kyle)-They’re were both so funny and tried their hardest to made me laugh and smile and they didn’t criticize or berate me when I’ve cried or made mistakes started talking about bugs and stayed awake with me when I had trouble falling asleep (insomnia I hate you so much) since they also had trouble sleeping…

Nia spoke a lot about her old home in South Africa 🇿🇦 like the animals living there and she told me stories and she sung me a lullaby in Xhosa? Zulu? I believe (and I’ve memorized it by heart) to help soothe my fears, we talked a lot about animals together even spend time at her flower garden and Freddie always tries to get me to race him though it’s more of a doubleheader with him being goofy and telling me a bunch of silly things heh.

The others have also helped me.. I mean Stuart, Falcon and Andreas worked all day to try and help me with my jinx and Andreas did apologize to me for suggesting I would be better off as a generator (though that’s not a terrible idea, I’ll keep it in mind and that’s not the most horrible thing I’ve been told to do-….)

And- and *he gives a slight hopeful grin* Duke and Toby did help me get rid of my jinx and well-I feel so happy *gently chuckles*I’ve haven’t felt this much… freedom in years…it’s.its exhilarating (kyle should be alive not me-)

Ah-sorry for rambling I admit I don’t exactly have a comforting item or memento unless you count the Little Rock’s and geodes or herbs and flowers Nia, Freddie and I find together, and I love being in Nia’s flower garden, there’s a track nearby the forest where I get to look at the constellations 🌌 and the stars since Nia and Kyle told me so much if that’s a comfort space to say-well as long as its not raining or the weather is too much it’s comforting to me…

I’ve seen posts of these two (I can’t remember from who though 💀) and they’re quickly becoming my new favorites! I’m not too familiar with the barrow gauge crew so this has helped me get more interested in them! They’re just…idk they just seem like that one super sweet couple that everyone supports and is happy to see them.

Uuhh…I’m not familiar with Proper Company on YT so I’m assuming this ment Den the diesel. Pairing the tiny guy with the big buff guy is always a win in my eyes lol. They seem cute though! I’d like to watch this series!

Again, not familiar with this series. I’m more familiar with the bully 87546, but since this series has a different headcannon for him then I can kinda see it. Having him be Ed’s ally is definitely a new take and sounds very interesting! I’d also like to see this series!

Xmen Unlimited Infinity Comics #62-#67 “A World Without X” (aka Age of Apocalypse island of stupid edition)

heyhey, look who found a way to finally read this! so when this was announced, i was intrigued; AoA is my favorite Xmen story/setting, and to be fair the House of Stupid 90s edition wasn’t *that* terrible and it was fun to see how they could creatively mimic the island of stupid using only the 90s animated stock. so can the same be said for AoA?

so...Chuckie boy is annoyed that he’s over worked...or that no one cares about him/are too busy to care about him...idk, i have no sympathy for him to start with so i probably am missing the point. Logan tells him to suck it up while beating him up in a sparring match, so that’s nice. then him and Rachel are on the Astral Plane building something?? (why is the Astral PLANE now a physical dimension??) and Nightmare shows up to throw Chuck into AoA. 

so ok, this isn’t “what if Xavier had been killed off and Apocalypse rose to power” but “What a Wonderful Life”. i guess that can work, plus this is a short format so yeah that’s fine.

Sinister says the same to Apocalypse with the added caveat of “hey let’s make a clone army to invade the multiverse”.

so the good guys are going to raid the pens for the missing Five members, the bad guys are planning to capture their members...

Moira gets a good line about not focusing on fixing the past or over thinking the future, just living in the now. so that’s a nice contrast to her murderbot normal self. i say they AoAed her well then.

Chuck melts Sinister’s brain after Sinister beats him up. Apocalypse says he’s too smart for that...so Chuck manifests his wife and...blah. why is Genesis such a huge deal? if it was this easy to defeat Apocalypse all these decades, just gotta talk about his wife, why has he been so hard to stop. i know the answer is “magic of retcons” but still.

Chuck complains how mind wiping is totally a bad thing to do...despite the fact that he does that on the regular...the day is saved? Chuck seems to die (in a cliché La Pieta pose), so...happy ending?

ok, i’ll give you that part of his argument, even though Moira seemed to have more lines, Victor kinda had more of the emotion even if it wasn’t the focus.

so blahblahblah, Nightmare trips an alarm and all the Grey-Summers ladies come in to save Chuck. Chuck talks about how the Xmen are an idea and will never die, because hope eternal even if he’s not there, blahblahblah.

so Logan takes him hot tubbing to unwind. ok...didn’t see this turning into a gay porno...

is that a nod to the AoA-esque 90s episode “One Man’s Worth”? because Logan was a main character of that

oh, oh great, he’s gonna try to invade other realities and convert them to his hivemind of terribleness. that, that’s just brilliant -.-

so we jump back to the AoA, which i guess is real and not just a vision created by Nightmare, cause their gang sets up an island seed? and is all “welp let’s wait for the real world to find us”. and Victor still refuses to wear a shirt XD

SO how did this stack up overall? you know, actually pretty good. it’s a super short read, and it’s own little pocket world, so it doesn’t affect anything in the grand scheme. it’s the stock Wonderful Life plot, and if it wasn’t done to rise up a character who’s so terrible, it’d’ve hit all the correct notes i’m sure. but it hit enough of the good ones. and it did a good job mimicking it’s inspiration using different pieces. if this story makes it to print like some of the other Xmen Unlimited ones have, i’d be willing to grab it. the art was good (turns out it was the same art team as the House of Stupid 90s edition, which i also really enjoyed the art on too), the writing was good. a very nice and quick one and done.

Kana: I don’t know Canadian geography.

she’s just messing with the little engines Stanley doesn’t even know much about the states he got immediately overseas which is true for his irl basis so that’s pretty neat, i low key think they’ll get along

Duke: I’m allergic to death. (That’s is so fitting for canon I’m wheezing despite my au he and the remaining msr gang go to the Skarloey Kyle (in the lucky lamp) though I feel like this also fits him but my dude was pulling so many strings-)

Second: Proteus, Stanley literally cried when he saw that you were actually okay. Just let the dude hug you as tight as possible.
