My Revised Ranking of Every David Lean Film
based on how gay they are
Lawrence of Arabia: the reigning champ, the queen of the desert, the only certified canon, 100% gay film in the Lean filmography. Lawrence of Ali are married. There are lots of other romantic subplots as well...
A Passage to India: would it have been gayer, had Merchant & Ivory made it? Yes. It's still, and I can't stress this enough, INCREDIBLY gay...I mean where shall we begin with Aziz and Fielding. They have a meet cute (Fielding is in the shower! Aziz stops by), whenever they talk one of them is usually sitting on a bed, they have a David Lean Train Station Good-bye which is pretty much the gayest thing you can put in a movie and some classic tropes like Fielding covering Aziz as he sleeps, I mean...yeah. Wow. Great movie and I'm in love with Victor Banerjee now so there's that.
Great Expectations: I put this a lot lower on the last list and then people came out of the woodwork to tell me how wrong I was and then started dropping receipts...so I guess I'm willing to admit when I make mistakes. Alec Guinness used his character name from this film, Herbert Pocket, when he was arrested for a homosexual act.
Bridge on the River Kwai: after a rewatch I placed this much higher on the list than last time. There was a lot of stuff I'd forgotten about but especially this scene...
Brief Encounter: yeah it’s practically the template for hetero longing but it was written by a gay man and that checks out: gay men have more longing in their pinky than most people have in their whole body.
Blithe Spirit: Noel Coward again. Witty drawing room comedy where everyone is smashed out of their minds and everyone has slept with everyone…how is this not just gay culture?
Dr. Zhivago: this film is only gay if one day on the 34th viewing your friend goes: wow Julie Christie looks a lot like Peter O'Toole. And then you can’t unsee it and it’s just Lawrence 2: This time they’re in Russia.
Hobson’s Choice: the presence of Laughton alone ups the anti on the queerness of this film. Then there’s the romantic hero of the film. His name is Willie…and he is… just very submissive. Something something metaphor for cock shaming and there’s probably a thesis to be done out of a queer reading of this film.
Summertime: pretend Rosanno Brazzi is a butch lesbian and this is Carol but they fuck and no one dies.
Ryan's Daughter: Lawrence of Arabia screenwriter, Robert Bolt penned this adaptation of Madame Bovary set in Ireland after the Easter Rising. The schoolteacher is played by Robert Mitchum, rather drastically against type after his Max Cady adventures. Charles O'Shaunessy is a very gay coded character who presses flowers and has a hard time fucking his very hot young wife. Nothing to see here...
The Passionate Friends: the addition of Claude Rains to any cast automatically add a bonus 10 Queer points.
Madelaine: I dunno, a women-centered noir with Psychosexual Themes is usually pretty queer.
The Sound Barrier: Lean's shortest film probably took me the longest time to get through....Even Ralph Richardson can not save this one for me. Similar to The Dam Busters and Spit Fire, but without the press of a hot war to up the tension. It's merely a race against the Americans to go a bit faster. I know scientifically it was a big deal, but the stakes are lower and Ralph plays another mean, cold dad character. :( Also, maybe some gayness between the pilots but I couldn't tell them apart well enough so it might have just been onanism...

My waking up thoughts were about cracking why David Lean isn't a film bro favourite or doesn't have Hitchcock-like glamourous status.
The most famous films of his, Lawrence of Arabia and Bridge over River Kwai, are war epics that feature no female characters. These films are great, they make you think, they are easy to love, they are grandiose and beautiful.
When you go further though, you get to Doctor Zhivago, a film about a man who was ready to live a happy life, but got stuck in the wheels of revolution and was destroyed by it. It's not an easy story to summarise or even understand. I've read the book and it was hard for me to pinpoint its meaning, the film helped with that, but it's a lot of work. It's marketed as a love story, but it's not one. It's not a hero's journey either, the protagonist is too passive, he's almost like a child. And that's the point. It's a story of innocence destroyed by the world. Not a very marketable thing.
Then, all of his later films are centered on women. Which is a film bro no-no and as for people who like stories about women, they were lost back at Lawrence of Arabia. And his films about women aren't glamourous romances either.
Summertime is about an older woman going to Venice and finding a short and unserious love affair there. Where was the Hays code looking.
Ryan's Daughter is a tragic story of a village girl who fell in love with her teacher and got to live that unhealthy fantasy to the fullest.
A Passage to India is about a frustrated English woman coming to India full of expectations of something romantic happening to her, never getting what she wanted and then accusing an Indian man of assaulting her just because she was bored.
Yeah, those aren't very mainstream sounding films, except for Summertime that stars Katharine Hepburn.
Too unconventional to be liked, I guess.

FLASH REPORT: Oklahomian Tetris Kid 'Blue Scuti' failed to advance Semi Finals against New Yorker 'Tristop' at the 2024 CTWC in California [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
(Written by Craig Ichabod Williams & Mitch Williams / Herkleton Oaks Elementary School news intern of Cartoon Network News and Senior Tech Correspondent of Nickelodeon News)
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA -- E-sports in the Tetris world would fire up the annual offline competitions, rising to new heights at the Classic Tetris World Championship in Pasadena, California, United States of America (U.S.A.) last Sunday afternoon (June 9th, 2024 - Pacific local time), using a classic Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) version of the 1989 Tetris game.
A classic Tetris player from New York named 'Mr. Tristan Kwai', known as 'Tristop' with 3 gaming session points scored in the Quarter Finals and 311 Tetris lines, while 'Mr. Willis Gibson', knowningly also as 'Blue Scuti' with his plushie toy of Yoshis from Super Mario games, has failed to advance to the Semi Finals with 1 gaming session point and 328 Tetris lines, supposedly compete against the last remaining Tetris players in the Grand Finals, where it potentially headlined with 'Alex T.', 'DogPlayTetris' and 'TheDengler'.
Before that in a Special Event last week on Friday (June 7th, 2024). A multimedia YouTube podcaster, social media influencer, pro-wrestler of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)'s current U.S. champion and the now-guest Tetris player named 'Mr. Logan Alexander Paul', lose himself out with zero (0) gaming session point in 4th place at CTWC 2024's Special Event. Gibson received 2 gaming session points against Mr. Logan, embarking his way to a Special Grand Finals with 'PixelAndy'.
In the early-Q1 2024, Gibson has broken and beat the entire game with a kill screen crash of nearly 160 levels that breaks its unreachable code, and crushing its Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) combined. It is fully unclear if gaming developers originated from the Soviet Union in Russia and the United States of America, who legally bought copies of the Tetris game may potentially receive a 3-digit or above the 5-digit figure offline cash incentive as a reward only for Gibson.
E-sports enthusiasts across the world are feeling really low because it's the big disheartening loss of Mr. Gibson, who personally, didn't make it to the top in the upcoming Grand Finals of his Tetris game on this same night in Pasadena.
Wrapping the e-sports competition, Gibson did pull it off and missed the Tetris drop within minutes before his latest defeat for this year's annual e-sports Tetris competition: "I thought i was but I screamed of, I misdrop the 'T' and I couldn't get 3 Tetrises after that", he said in an exclusive post-defeat interview thru TeleRadyo Serbisyo: Dumaguete and OneNETnews.
Online and in-person, friends and families of 'Blue Scuti' are in the fullest of support in Pasadena, despite his loss before entering the Grand Finals. Gibson ends in 5th Place for this year's offline E-sports competition of CTWC.

Considering how poorly Asian men are portrayed in Hollywood, I was genuinely surprised to learn about Sessue Hayakawa, a Japanese actor who became one of the biggest stars during the American silent era of the 1910s. He became one of Hollywood's first sex symbols after starring in the film "The Cheat" (1915), in which he plays a cruel villain (there's a scene in which he literally brands a woman). Despite his portrayal, Hayakawa became extremely popular with American women for his "broodingly handsome" good looks. At one point, he was the highest paid actor in Hollywood, making over $3,500 a week, and his fame was on par with that of Charlie Chaplin.
Although Hayakawa was highly sought after during the 1910s and early 1920s, he became disillusioned by constantly being typecast for the same roles. He decided to start his own production company to fight Asian stereotypes and ended up producing 23 films in a span of three years. However, he had to scrap his company after getting into an argument with a distributor who called him a racial slur.
By the 1930s, Hollywood had set strict moral guidelines called the Hays Code, which prohibited interracial love from being portrayed on screen. As a result, Hayakawa continued to be cast as either a villain or a "forbidden lover," since most of his co-stars were white women.
In 1937, Hayakawa went to France to star in a French film but ended up being trapped in the country when World War 2 broke out. He sold watercolor paintings to financially support himself and joined the French resistance to help fight the Germans.
In 1949, Hayakawa, upon reflecting on his career, mentioned, "My one ambition is to play a hero." He never really got that chance but did end up being nominated for best supporting actor for his role in "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957), in which he plays an "honorable villain" in charge of a Japanese prison camp in Thailand.
Upon retirement, Hayakawa became a Zen master and dedicated his life to Zen Buddhism. He died at the age of 87 in 1973.

Meet 29-year-old Jehu Graham and 32-year-old Francis Kway, two young African American investors who are also the founders of Cheat Code Algo, powerful software that uses a series of indicators to predict stock market trends. During their first year in business, they generated $5 million in revenue, and now they are on a mission to give away $1 million in trading profits from their own trades to urban communities over the course of two years.

Just recently, Jehu and Francis partnered with Gillie Da Kid and Wallo267 to start a challenge to raise money for families in Philadelphia. By trading stocks, they made $20,000 in 30 days and gave it all away in cash to local single mothers & struggling families. But that’s just the beginning. Ultimately, they want to give away $1 million to more families in need all across the country.
During their interview on the popular Earn Your Leisure podcast, they comment, “We believe that trading is the key to empowerment for Black and brown communities because there is no discrimination in the trading markets. When it comes to trading, everyone has an equal opportunity to attain wealth as long as they master the skillset.”

Monaco: 27e tournoi international par équipe.
(11-Dec-2022)
>> 2022 Monaco, tournoi séniors par équipe (info) >> aankondiging ‘la-gazetta-de-monaco’
Het deelnemende Belgische team bestaat uit de Belgische kampioenen Seniors 2022: >> 2022 BK seniors (results VJF)
- Emile Merdin (-60kg/JC Kawaishi Ingelmunster) - Johan Schildermans (-66kg/JT Agglorex Lommel) - Jeroen Casse (-73kg/JC Fudji Yama Boom/Schelle) - Noah Christaens (-81kg/Jitsu Kwai Hamme) - Jitse Van den Herrewegen (-90kg/Inter Gembloux Wavre) - Glenn Segers (-100kg/AM Royal Poseidon Ryu) - Edouard Capelle (+100kg/JC Jambes-Gishi Club) -- gekwetst, en vervangen door Arthur Temmerman (JC Laarne)
< wordt vervolgd met uitslagen >
Wel, meer dan een uitslag weet ik er momenteel ook niet over: 1. Japan (university team “Kokugakuin Keio” - aged 18-22) 2. Ukraine 3. RSC Montreuil & FLAM 91 5. Judo Belgium & SGS
Update (13-Dec):
>> verslagje ‘code-sport-monaco’ >> youtube (MonacoTV) >> youtube (MonacoInfo) >> VJF-verslag.
>> final Japon - Ukraine (partial - fb)
