A Blue man and a Ghost meet in a church…
((Just an idea as I’m having brainrott))
Danny, with his horrific injuries from being ‘caught’, somehow escapes to his friends before retreating into his core. His friends take his core into the ghost zone, trying to get to Frostbite, but are stopped by (either Fenton parents or GIW agents) flooding into the ghost zone after them.
Tuck and Sam are panicking and so they wrap Danny’s core into Tuck’s beanie and Sam’s jacket before tossing him onto one of the flouting platforms and leading the ghost hunters away…they didn’t expect Danny to be sucked into one of the natural portals along the way down…
Danny wakes up in Germany of all places, alone, with pieces of his best friend’s clothing splayed over him… He takes this with surprising grace (not) and deals with his newfound homelessness in a foreign country as well as he can. At least his King status allows him to be a polyglot…
Meanwhile, Kurt Wagner had returned church that had raised him, planing on pay respects (again) to the Priest that had sheltered him. It wasn’t the same church, as that one has burned down far long ago, but there had been a new church built in its place. This new church had been abandoned soon after its construction, too many people saying that it was haunted with angry ghosts and feeling too anxious to worship within such a building.
Kurt had thought they had been silly, thinking like that and leaving the building to rot. Through, that was before he, himself, had caught sight of a ghost dwelling inside inside. Wait, no. This was still a living child. A boy sat in one of the pews and stared at him with wary curiosity. Through he was so washed out and in such a sorry state that…Well, Kurt believes he could be forgiven for mistaking the boy for the dead.
In the dim morning glow flooding through the stained glass, his eyes reflected and glowed in the shadows. Which was…huh. Seems Kurt has stumbled upon not just a squatter, but a mutant squatter at that.
#Kurt sees this creepy child chilling in the church and asks ‘is anyone gonna adopt this child?’ and didn’t wait for an answer#meanwhile Danny is unsure if this blue guy is a ghost or not..#oh and Danny still has his vivisection wounds underneath his shirt#shits all inflected now and gross#They both bond over being experimented on#at least I think Kurt was experimented on#idk I don’t know him all that well#I’ve got a whiff of this strange blue man and I was enchanted immediately#Danny Fenton#kurt wagner#nightcrawler#dp x marvel#dp x X-men#x man#oh and meanwhile Tucker and Sam are having a goddamned panic attack after losing Danny#which is always fun#could this count as a runaway experiment?#yes#Kurt Wagner & Danny Phantom#Nightcrawler & Danny Phantom

X-Men x Reader x Reader's Dog
How they handle your relationship with your dog
The return of Mr. Pickles! Eight famous X-men—interact with both you, their partner, and your small, not-so-bright dog, Mr. Pickles.
Characters: Logan Howlett, Scott Summers, Remy LeBeau, Kurt Wagner, Ororo Munroe, Jean Grey, Bobby Drake & Hank McCoy
Logan (Wolverine):
- At first, Logan tries to act like Mr. Pickles is just a nuisance, but deep down, he softens over time, despite his gruff exterior. He often complains about the dog taking up his side of the bed or chewing on his boots, but you’ve caught him scratching behind Mr. Pickles’ ears when he thinks you’re not looking.
- Logan is fiercely protective of you, and surprisingly, that extends to Mr. Pickles. The little dog may not be much of a fighter, but if anyone messes with him, Logan’s claws come out faster than they can blink. It’s as if he’s adopted Mr. Pickles as part of your pack.
- Despite pretending he doesn’t care, Logan has saved Mr. Pickles from various ridiculous situations—like getting stuck under the couch or chasing squirrels out into traffic. He’ll grumble, “Damn dog’s more trouble than he’s worth,” but the affection in his voice gives him away.
Scott Summers (Cyclops):
- Scott takes Mr. Pickles very seriously—possibly too seriously. He’ll come home from missions and ask, “How’s the dog?” like Mr. Pickles is a critical member of the team. He’s even tried to train Mr. Pickles on basic commands like “stay” and “come,” though the results are… mixed.
- He appreciates how happy Mr. Pickles makes you, so he’ll go the extra mile to include the dog in your daily lives. He’s tried setting a strict feeding schedule, making sure Mr. Pickles gets enough exercise, and even reading up on dog nutrition. But when Mr. Pickles inevitably gets into trouble, Scott sighs and takes it all in stride.
- Scott’s a bit more traditional, so he sometimes doesn’t quite get why you treat Mr. Pickles like a child. However, he’ll indulge you, helping pick out little outfits for Mr. Pickles and occasionally taking him on walks when you’re busy. Though he won’t admit it, he’s grown attached to the tiny dog, even if it’s not something he’ll openly discuss with the other X-Men.
Remy LeBeau (Gambit):
- Remy finds Mr. Pickles absolutely hilarious. He’s charmed by how ridiculously small and clueless the dog is, often playfully teasing Mr. Pickles but in a good-natured way. He loves calling the dog “Petit Cornichon” (Little Pickle) in his thick Cajun accent, laughing every time Mr. Pickles stumbles into something.
- Unlike Scott, Remy has no problem treating Mr. Pickles like your child. He’ll humor you completely, offering to babysit whenever you need, and he’s the type to sneak Mr. Pickles little treats when you’re not looking. The two of them have formed an odd friendship, with Mr. Pickles following Remy around despite his jokes.
- Remy uses Mr. Pickles as a tool for romance, often bringing the dog into moments where he tries to charm you. He’ll set up cute dates for you with Mr. Pickles in tow, and there’s no shortage of times where you’ve found him holding the dog while dramatically proclaiming, “Cher, I would protect this lil’ fluff as fiercely as I protect you.”
Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler):
- Kurt adores Mr. Pickles, even if the dog doesn’t quite understand how to react to his teleportation skills. He’s very gentle and sweet with the dog, often calling him “Kleiner Hund” (little dog) and being patient whenever Mr. Pickles gets confused.
- Kurt is used to people treating him differently because of his appearance, so he’s extra compassionate toward Mr. Pickles, who sometimes gets lost in his own little world. He’ll often try to engage Mr. Pickles in games or tricks, even if the dog just ends up looking confused.
- As your partner, Kurt loves how much you dote on Mr. Pickles and supports your attachment wholeheartedly. He’s the type to pray for the dog’s health during quiet moments and genuinely treats Mr. Pickles like a small blessing in both of your lives. Sometimes, Kurt even takes Mr. Pickles on little teleportation adventures, ensuring the dog’s well-being in a way only he could.
Ororo Munroe (Storm):
- Ororo finds Mr. Pickles absolutely endearing, though she initially worries about such a small dog in a world of superpowers and chaos. She uses her abilities to protect him from the weather, ensuring that he never gets caught in a storm or drenched by rain. Mr. Pickles might not understand why it never rains on him, but Ororo quietly smiles every time.
- She treats your relationship with Mr. Pickles with grace and understanding, recognizing how much joy he brings into your life. Ororo will often sit with Mr. Pickles on her lap while you’re relaxing together, gently stroking his fur as if he were a delicate creature of nature.
- Mr. Pickles, unsurprisingly, adores Ororo. Despite his limited intelligence, he follows her around like a little shadow. Ororo sometimes teases you, saying, “It seems I have another loyal follower,” while lifting the tiny dog into her arms with a soft laugh.
Jean Grey:
- Jean thinks Mr. Pickles is cute but also amusingly oblivious. She’s used to minds being complex and full of emotions, but Mr. Pickles’ thoughts are simple—mostly consisting of food, naps, and chasing after random things. She can’t help but smile every time she picks up on his scattered little thoughts.
- She’s supportive of your attachment to Mr. Pickles and thinks it’s sweet that you treat him like your child. Sometimes, she’ll help you by telepathically calming the dog when he’s overly excited or confused. She finds it adorable how deeply you care for him and appreciates how he adds a lighthearted dynamic to your relationship.
- Occasionally, Jean will make Mr. Pickles do something funny, like fetch you a flower or bark on command, using her telekinesis. You’ll burst out laughing when you realize she’s behind it, and Jean will simply shrug with a knowing smile, saying, “I thought he needed a little guidance.”
Bobby Drake (Iceman):
- Bobby thinks Mr. Pickles is absolutely hilarious. He’s constantly cracking jokes about how Mr. Pickles looks like a walking snowball, and the dog’s obliviousness only adds fuel to Bobby’s comedic fire. “How does a dog with no brain cells survive in this world?” he’ll laugh as Mr. Pickles runs into a wall.
- Despite the teasing, Bobby has a soft spot for Mr. Pickles. He’s made tiny ice toys for the dog to play with and has even built a little ice fort for him to run around in. Bobby’s playful nature means he’s always finding new ways to entertain both you and the dog, keeping the mood light and fun.
- Bobby likes to use Mr. Pickles as an icebreaker (pun intended) in your relationship. Whether it’s suggesting a “doggy playdate” or bringing Mr. Pickles to an impromptu snowball fight, Bobby manages to incorporate the dog into every moment, making your bond with him even more entertaining.
Hank McCoy (Beast):
- Hank is incredibly curious about Mr. Pickles. He’s fascinated by the dog’s behaviors, even if Mr. Pickles doesn’t seem to have the sharpest instincts. Hank might overanalyze Mr. Pickles’ every move, muttering things like, “It’s truly remarkable how such a small brain can direct such complex behaviors.”
- While Hank is used to more intellectual pursuits, he indulges you when it comes to your love for Mr. Pickles. He’ll read up on dog care, create homemade nutritious treats, and even design little gadgets to keep the dog entertained when you’re away. He approaches it scientifically but with genuine affection, wanting the best for your “child.”
- Hank secretly enjoys Mr. Pickles’ company. He often finds himself absentmindedly petting the dog while reading a book or working on an experiment, the small creature bringing a sense of calm to Hank’s otherwise busy mind. You’ll occasionally catch Hank trying to teach Mr. Pickles new tricks, though the results are questionable at best.

Kurt Wagner x Male Reader
TW: Light Internalized homophobia and homophobia from others. * Kurt didn’t know his feelings were “wrong” until he kissed his male crush as a young teen. His foster mother reprimanded him strongly but “kindly” didn’t tell the circus master, who would have punished him severely. * He struggled with his feelings towards men growing up because why not? Why did a “creature” like him deserve love anyway? Especially the “wrong” type of love. It made him feel like even more of a freak or outcast than he already felt. * His religious studies made him further question his sexuality, but it wasn’t until meeting a gay priest who had him truly question the Bible that he began to feel at peace with his sexuality. This stayed with him even when he briefly became a priest
* As an X-Men, he finally felt free to be his entire self, not just as a mutant, but as an LGBT+ man as well. His fellow X-Men immediately supported his identity and Gambit even tried to play wingman for him for other people. * He is proudly out, and his questioning and LGBT+ students always come to him for advice and to spend time with him. They know he’s a safe space. While all the professors are safe spaces, Kurt is something special * While he does dress flamboyantly, he is NOT the stereotype! He does have a weakness for the occasional pirate shirts and pants, and he loves his earrings, but he says he is a flamboyant man in many ways - not because of his sexuality. Plus - he knows you like how his ass looks in those trousers. ; ) * Praises Germany for their LGBT+ measures and wishes the U.S. was the same. He would definitely want to take his boyfriend to pride in Berlin! * He is the sweetest boyfriend you could ever ask for. Expect all the romantic gestures, even the extremely cheesy ones. You roll your eyes at his theatrics, but someone he manages to make even the lamest gesture so damn charming! * It’s awkward at first, given the number of fingers he has, but he loves to hold hands. He’s very publicly affectionate - but if you’re embarrassed by it, he will respect that. * He will allow his tail to wrap around your waist while you’re cooking or reading or watching TV together whether you two are already cuddling or not. * His fur is soft as velvet and keeps you incredibly warm - his arms feel like a safe haven of warmth and closeness……..but the hot summer nights make sharing a bed with him hard. You both love cuddling so much, but you two just can’t make it work unless you have the room seriously air-conditioned. * Surprise dates! He loves surprising you when you get home from work with him, who is already having your favorite takeout and movie ready to go. * You don’t usually deal with homophobia, but Kurt can diffuse a situation easily with his his easy going nature, cleverness and quick wit. *He’s a switch in bed. He’s known for being a service top, but he is JUST as happy to bottom. He’s naturally gifted in bed. If you ask him how he became so damn talented, he just shrugs with a laugh. He can play you like the fiddle. *Absolutely wants to marry you one day. He is a bit traditional in some ways. He’d love a family, but actually adopting/having a child makes him nervous. Adopting a mutant would be the best way to ease his anxieties. BUT if you don’t want children, he continues paying attention to his found family.

pssst can i please ask you to spoiler the raven baby reveal to me...?
So the summary of X-Men Blue: Origins (2023) Mystique is wandering around New York acting crazy and mumbling about her lost baby, Kurt catches up with her and tries to talk her into calming down.
Kurt gives Raven his sword which breaks the mental barriers and it's revealed that while Raven was married to Baron Wagner, she and Irene were an on again, off again, couple who would hook up with other people whenever it helped their goals.
Raven had hired Irene to be the housemaid so she could stay close while Raven was married to Wagner, using his money/influence as they wanted and having a torrid love affair with Irene in private. Azazel shows up and Irene encouraged Raven to have an affair with him as well, because she had visions of the future.
Basically Irene wanted a love child with Raven, but needed Azazel to believe he was the father because she knew that unless Kurt was set on a path to be his constant foe/destroyer of his plans then Azazel would rise to power.
Irene's visions aren't something she can stop and she lives her life according to how to bring about her visions but she doesn't tell Raven any of this until 5 years after Kurt's birth. So she and Raven have a child, Kurt, and from my understanding of the reading, Mystique can copy the genes down to a molecular level and took the gene patterns from Azazel and Baron Wagner and impregnated Irene. So Kurt doesn't have 2 parents, he has 4, well 5 including Margali Szardos who was his adopted mom. Kurt is now battling for the #1 spot for "most parents and most confusing parental origin in comics" and he's up against the Maximoff twins who have gone through 3 sets of parents.
Back to the story, Raven dumps Azazel who is such a pathetic loser, I love that lol. Raven fakes being pregnant by shapeshifting to look like she is pregnant as the months go by. Baron Wagner discovers his wife's affairs, and being the homophobe he is, is stabbed by Raven who then spends the next few months switching between forms to make people believe that the Baron and his wife are both still around, waiting until Irene gives birth. I'm guessing because Raven intended to use the Baron's money/pretending to be him so she and Irene could live in comfort or until they wanted to move on.
Irene is the one who gives birth to Kurt, and Raven overcome with joy/love for Kurt doesn't want his first sight of her to be human so she reveals herself.
The townspeople are of course in an uproar, want to kill the demon woman and her demon child, Irene tells Raven to get to safety and that she would be ok, but Raven fears for Irene so she leaves Kurt under a tree and rushes back to kill the people who would hurt her wife and discovers Irene is missing, she runs back to find Kurt and he's gone too.
Five years pass and she finds Irene again, this time watching a young Rogue, Irene reveals everything to Raven, the Azazel vision, Irene needed Kurt to be raised as an outcast etc. Raven and Irene both know they are in a toxic relationship, but they love each other too much so they went to the one man who can make everything worse, Charles Xavier. Of course Xavier does what he does best, erases people's memories and implants new ones.
So now Kurt has 2 deadbeat mutant moms, 1 deadbeat demonic mutant father, 1 dead human father, and 1 adopted mother and they all give him the most drama & trauma that you will ever see in comics! Love wins (?)
I am currently taking donations to hire Kurt a therapist (who isn't Professor X), save an elf's sanity and donate /jk
I will say that this origin, though very messy, does at least confirm that Irene is just as messy/toxic as Raven, so I hope they continue to be totally bad for each other and 100% in love, which is very refreshing to see in wlw couples and I really hope they do not try to soften their edges, especially Raven's, I do not want a "good mother Raven", but time will tell. Also finally Kurt is Baron Wagner's son technically due to partially copied genetics so it finally makes sense for why Kurt has the Wagner last name, which is something that always bugged me, because imo if he had zero connection to the Baron then he wouldn't have the Wagner last name. Also this doesn't invalidate the Azazel retcon from before because again technically Azazel believes Kurt is his son, and Kurt does have partially copied genetics from Azazel.
I think it was a really tough balancing act to have to write, I wish it could have been written a bit better or the thoughts of Rogue actually being Irene/Raven's daughter would have worked better. Like imagine if Raven and Irene were both pregnant, Irene had Rogue and Raven had Nightcrawler or Irene had them both as twins, then they wouldn't just be foster/adopted siblings but also bio siblings, and it could have opened up the door for more stories involving them as brother and sister trying to deal with their mothers. Marvel constantly ignores the potential for Rogue and Kurt's sibling dynamic and I wish we got more of it in the comics. I get that the writer was trying to keep to the old canon while creating the new canon and using the original plan for Kurt's parentage, so while I feel it's way too complicated this is also comics where complicated plots and retcons have been a long standing tradition meant to torment us readers.

Hey I was wondering if you could write a piece about my OC Dina Khoury x Kurt wagner, I'll be giving her info in jot note from because that's my best way of doing it.
I wasn't sure which info would be useful for whatever you plan to write, but ig having the whole picture helps
-Dina was born to human x-gene carrier parents, a Palestinian mother and an afro Egyptian father. She also has an older brother who tormented her as a child.
-she was born into a strict religious household(Christian) and suffered spiritual abuse because of them, being shamed often(religion is a very spiky topic for her because of it but it doesn't effect how she feels about Kurt)
-she ran away from home at 10 after discovering her powers, which unfortunately lead to her being snatched off of the streets and thrown into mutant fighting rings.
-she has scars all over her body from these fights and feels sickened looking at them, for some reason her powers can't get rid of them.
-after escaping the ring she was discovered have dead in the street by Magneto and her took her in as his daughter.
-dina believed in magneto's cause after hearing about it and reflecting on how she doesn't want to continue experiencing like the way she has been as a mutant, why should she settle for being tolerated?
- appearance wise Dina has dark skin, dark brown(almost black)eyes, and light blond 4a texture hair thats in a different style almost every day.
-she loves wearing hair accessories like loc charms and jewels hanging by gold twin wrapped around the ends her braids/locs, and she wears purple all the time with different shades and color pairings.
-she's trans mtf and used her reality manipulation abilities to make the physical transition easier.
-She's funny, asertive, intense, and will go above and beyond to protect her loved ones, usually violently if the situation allows it; she's very adamant about the rights of mutants and is not going to be undermined in anyway shape or form much like her adoptive father.
I hope you like Dina and I hope you can come up with an interesting fic idea for her and Kurt. If you have anything you wanna ask me about feel free to message me😊😁
I had a lot of fun designing this character, and she's got such an entertaining backstory as well, i'm inclined to draw her later sometime again
sorry for the delay this week has been especially busy, if anyone else wants me to design an outfit for their OC just send an ask, i love drawing superhero outfits so much.
You are free to color it how you like, i don't know which colors you would've wanted her outfit to be besides the jacket, thanks for telling me her story!
Also she's into this weird little guy idk why lol

Rogue above all else.
This is fan post declaring my love for Rogue and that I love her more than I am attached to a particular ship. For all I know, Rogue can be with whoever she wants to be with and I'm sticking by her. I am an equal opportunity Rogue shipper and have liked and enjoyed Rogueneto and Romy fanfics and art and etc. I don't believe in ship wars and just want to promote my girl.
I love Rogue. I think she is the most beautiful animated character and she is such a complex, interesting character from the comics to cartoons to the movies. Her powers are super interesting with or without Carole Danvers' superpowers and make her an empathetic person.
Firstly, I love that Rogue is the daughter of Mystique and Destiny. What a crazy upbringing that must have been and so unique. I love that she was born and raised in Mississippi and still keeps her roots, but then became the adopted daughter of two smart, ambitious, and strong lesbian women. The backstory of them raising her is super interesting because there is such a conflict of interests for Destiny and Mystique from knowing Rogue was going to be a powerful mutant, using and training her to be part of the Brotherhood, introducing her to people like Magneto, and also loving her like a daughter.
Mystique is such a unique character and such a powerful woman that it makes sense why Rogue is as powerful and strong willed as she is. In my headcanon X-men First Class stuff still applies so Raven is still Charles' adopted little sister and so Rogue is like Charles Xavier's distant niece which makes things interesting. Raven and Destiny hid Anna Marie away while she was growing up, but came to Xavier to help her after her run in with Carole Danvers. They had to reluctantly give Rogue up to the X-men in order to save her, but it was a bittersweet moment that Irene and Raven both regret.
Secondly, I love Rogue's vulnerability and empathy. Her absorbing powers are so unique and bring up a lot of questions about what makes a person. She can absorb powers, memories, and feelings and can even hold on too long and absorb entire psyches and life forces. In the beginning of her story way back in Avengers Annual 10, she is bad and unafraid to use her powers. She not only uses her powers indiscriminately, but she also isn't afraid to kiss people to absorb them.
The Rogue we see in X-men 97 is far more tempered and though has a past, has learned to use her powers sparingly and not want to hurt people. She uses her super strength and flying powers, but rarely uses her absorption power because it is a double edged sword. She may gain powers and drain energy from people, but gets their memories, traumas, fears, etc. which may not be a pleasant experience.
Thirdly, I like pretty much all forms of Rogue. I love X-men Evo Rogue for her gothic personality. I think a teen Rogue would be introverted and different to most girls her age. I like Wolverine and the X-men Rogue for being independent and Wolverine's best friend. I like their dynamic and I like when she is Wolverine's partner and team mate and platonically just gets him because she has absorbed him and they're so much alike. The most vulnerable of all Rogues is Movie Rogue which is a controversial portrayal of Rogue. I personally think Anna Paquin is gorgeous and good actor who portrayed the sweet, vulnerable Rogue to a tee.
This Rogue wasn't raised by Mystique and she didn't absorb Carole Danvers' powers yet. She was a scared teen girl who couldn't touch people and whose storyline revolved around her feelings about her powers and wanting to have physical intimacy. It's not my favorite version of her, but it did beautifully show Rogue's inner angst.
My favorite version of her is X-men TAS or 97 Rogue who I think is Rogue Prime. She is the daughter of Destiny and Mystique, has absorbed Carole Danvers' powers, is the ex of Erik Lensherr, in an on off relationship with Remy Le Beau, sister of Kurt Wagner, great friend and dedicated X-man, and all around bad ass chick.
She has the Brotherhood/Magneto's ex/Mystique's daughter thing as her background which makes her a complicated character with a dark past which makes for juicy storylines, but she is mature enough to be fully reformed and a good person. Her duality and grey toned sense of the world makes her so well suited to complex men like Erik Lensherr and Remy LeBeau who are not traditional good guys with squeaky clean pasts and morals.
I love X-men 97 Rogue. I love Lenore Zann. I love the sass, the Southern charm and cute accent, I love her no bs attitude, her compassionate heart, and her empathy. Rogue is my Queen and I stan.

I have come to realize, I don't quite understand what a back-up story is? Like, do some comic issues just sometimes have too much space for the main story so they include another, smaller comic at the back?
No, it's usually the reverse: the creators have a story they like, but that's too short to make up a full comic, so they attach it as a bonus feature after the A-story.
To me, the acme of how to do backup stories are Chris Claremont's Classic X-Men. In an era before trade paperback and omnibus collections were common, in an era before there were digital comics libraries where you could access the entire back catalogue of entire companies on demand, Classic X-Men reprinted everything from the Roy Thomas/Neal Adams Silver Age through to the big hits of the first hundred or so issues of the Claremont run with edited captions and dialogue and interstitial panels and pages of new art.
However, Chris Claremont wasn't satisfied with tinkering around the edges, so the first 44 issues of Classic X-Men included backup stories by him and Ann Nocenti. These short (usually ~8 page) stories included a lot of "deleted scenes" - so you get to see how things that are alluded to but not shown in the main narrative, like the beginning of Logan and Jean's attraction in the immediate wake of Giant-Size #1, or Emma Frost's Hellfire Club scheming against Jason Wyngarde or Selene during the Dark Phoenix Saga, or Jean Grey wrestling with what it means to be the Phoenix with the help of Storm and Misty Knight, or why Nightcrawler stopped using his image inducer and came out of the closet as a mutant, etc. These scenes "danced between the raindrops" of canon, where they added richness and flavor to the main story without being essential reading.
But more and more, Claremont and Nocenti used these backup stories to fill out backstories through "period pieces." It is in these stories that we see Max Eisenhardt escape Auschwitz and tragically lose his daughter Anya, or go from being a Nazi hunter in South America to a mutant separatist terrorist when he learns the truth about Operation Paperclip. It is in these stories that we see Jean Grey's psychic powers awaken when she experiences the tragic death of her childhood friend Annie Richardson from inside Annie's mind, and how that shaped her understanding of life and death and what it means to be a mutant.
I would argue that these stories are essential reading, because they're often where Claremont (and Nocenti) found the emotional core of his characters, the motivational drives that make them who they are.
Alternatively, backup stories are where creators could take advantage of free "real estate" in anthology books, team-up books, and annuals to tell more fantastical and imaginative B-stories that wouldn't have fit within an overarching narrative. So we get weird stuff like Margali Szardos casting her adopted son Kurt Wagner into the literal Inferno of Dante Alighieri, or straight-edge Harlan County miner's son Sam Guthrie romantically abducted by an intergalactic cat burglar who also happens to be a cockney Joan Jett, and so on.
And that's what I like about backup stories - they're like miniature paintings, where the artists get to stretch their creative muscles free of the burden and pressure of the magnum opus.

So, here comes a little history of Kurt Wagner and his relationship to sex, romance and priesthood:
When Kurt was created by Marvel and joined the X-Men in the mid 1970s, there were some small appearances of his catholic faith sprinkled around, but not necessarily referencing a vocation for priesthood. He was just a guy who prayed.
And he was the more open to flirting, sex and romance, with female characters frequently remarking how they found him cute while a lot of people feared him.
His longest romance in comics was with flight attendant Amanda Sefton, who was later revealed to be a fake identity for powerful sorceress and Kurt's adoptive sister Jimaine Szardos (because Comics Are Convoluted Like That).
By the 80s, when he joined the London based team Excalibur, Kurt had a fling with Shiar princess Cerise and a romantic tension with teamate shapeshifter Megan Pucceanu aka Gloriana (who ended up married to her long time boyfriend and Excalibur teamate Brian Braddock, aka Captain Britain).
Then came the 90s comic writers bringing the decision to make Kurt a priest, and since the Animated Series was mainly influenced by what was going on in the 90s, Kurt the Ordained Priest was what they choosed to focus on.
Then the came the comic writers in the 2000s and uncollared Kurt... by making up a plot where he NEVER WAS ORDAINED AT ALL and instead it was all a conspiracy by a group of villains to frame him as the Antichrist (because again, comics are convoluted like that).
Meanwhile in the animation front, we had the series X Men Evolution where Kurt was deaged to a high schooler and had a romance with a version with Amanda Sefton that WASN'T secretly his adoptive sister Jimaine, but instead an everyday half black half romani teenage girl who studied with Kurt in the same high school and was accepting and supportive of the fact he was a mutant, and Wolverine and The X-Men, where Kurt is an adult, but with the swashbuckler aspect of his character more emphasized, giving him a romantic interest in the Scarlet Witch that find obstacle that they are in oposite sides of the ideological battle of mutant rights (Kurt as an X Men, Wanda as Magneto's daughter and right hand person in ruling Genosha).
In more recent comics, Kurt rejoined the X-Men, received the mantle of Uncanny Spider Man, and had a few more romances, the longest being with alternate timeline adult daughter of Jean and Scott and his Excalibur teamate Rachel Summers, and he also met his alternate dimension/timeline teenager daughter with the Scarlet Witch, Talia Josephine Wagner, more known as TJ, who hops ocasionally to the main comics timeline.
Besides, he declared having a crush on Ororo, and artists have implied a romance between Nightcrawler and Wolverine.
So in the comics, the priesthood was a more recent development that got cut short, and a lot of the time Nightcrawler was open to flirting, casual sex and romance.
In adaptations, we get the second movie portraying him as catholic but not ordained as a priest, two cartoons where he is not a priest and not explicitly devout, and the Animated Series/97 where is the only series that shows him as a ordained priest.
Also, I made a poll months ago asking which portrayal of Kurt people prefered: Flirty and Romantic Swashbuckler or Pious and Chaste Priest.
The first option won, but there were coments suggesting that there could be some fusion of those two aspects of the character ...
Hey thanks for all the context!
I appreciate this, as the animated series was my first introduction to x men proper and there he is ordained. Again i have no problem with other people shipping him however they like so long as kurt is happy, whether hes canonically a priest or not in any canon they are using. People leave the priesthood for this reason, its chill with me, and a lot of fans are not catholic and may not relate as heavily to that side of him and thus wish to ignore it, or because its a newer thing, prefer older canons where hes not. thats ok.
Seriously whatever other people do i got no issue with at all. It’s a personal hang up. I don’t want to get too much into this but as an aroace catholic, it was personally always very uncomfortable seeing people sexualize clergy and holy objects I hold dear. Theres….a lot of porn out there of nuns being raped to “fix them” or the idea that all clergy secretly are dying to have sex. And this isn’t even considering a lot of the genuinely horrible sexual scandals within the church that are used to inspire specific religious themed pornography. Thats is why I personally have some discomfort shipping him at times. Some days im chill with it and want to pair him up with people who would make him happy, but some days my own personal trauma relating to seeing stuff either glorifying rape and sex crimes in the church, seeing things have very specific sacred meaning used in really twisted ways, or justifying rape or sexual harassment of clergy in order to “fix them” make me want nothing to do with shipping nightcrawler.
Some days I want him to kiss like five people, especially logan, but somedays the thought of shipping my clergy boy personally sends me into a sex/romance repulsed mood.
And to make sure I’m clear on this THIS IS NOT TO SHAME ANYONE WHO ENJOYS SHIPPING HIM OR RELIGIOUS THEMED PORNOGRAPHY. yall are hella valid and a lot of ex christians use it cope. And even for those who never were christian and maybe even hate christian religious groups for past crimes and current, believe me I get it, I at least appreciate ya’ll enjoying the catholic aesthetic and one of my fav characters. Pls keep taking what ya like from my religious culture and enjoying it. Ya’ll are valid af. This is a me thing and not condemnation of anyone else.
Anyways this was more indepth than i wanted. I love Kurt, hes one of my favs, there are just some days I feel he should stay single and some days I don’t. And thats not anyones problem, just my own mind dealing with shit thats happened in the world I’ve been exposed to, not an issue of shipping morality or offensiveness or anything.
#all kurt interps are valid#mod talks#tw: catholicism#tw: sa mention#tw: rape mention#tw: religious themes#i know i said i dont want to talk politics on this blog#but i wanted to make sure i wasnt shaming anyone for liking shipping kurt#please keep enjoying shipping him#this is just one party i may not always be up for attending#hello stranger

It's still family month apparently so have some fics where either legal adoption or just taking absorbing someone into the family without paperwork takes place.

Empty Vessels, Gravel Roads (AO3) - "The Winchester brothers come to Gotham. Really, how could Dean say no to a hunt in his childhood hero’s hometown? But an easy case gets complicated when they run into our favorite zombie-Robin fresh from the grave."
Another Brother (FF) - "There weren't supposed to be any survivors, but Chief Hakoda couldn't bring himself to kill the Fire Nation boy. Against his better judgment, he brought him home. A Zuko joins the Water Tribe story."
Greater Love Hath No Man (AO3) - "Twenty years after the Clave brings the Circle's members back into their ranks after Valentine's death, an infant warlock is left on the steps of the New York Institute. Alec Lightwood will blow up the ground he stands on for those he loves."
Odin's Son, Tyr's Son (AO3) - "This whole thing sprang from a prompt wherein someone [Tyr] saw Loki being mistreated, myth-style, and stepped in to stop it."
Bonus: The Demon of Gotham (AO3) wherein Kurt Wagner is taken in by Jason Todd after some unexpected dimesion travel.

Mystique and the Theories of Relativity
A little over half a year ago, I marathoned the entirety of both the 90s X-Men crossover event, Age of Apocalypse, as well as its direct prequel Legionquest in giant-sized hardcover format. One issue from the Legionquest omnibus in particular which greatly stood out to me was Theories of Relativity from X-Men Unlimited (1993) #4 by Scott Lobdell & Richard Bennett, due to how it heavily fleshes out one my personal favorite supervillain in comics, Raven Darkhölme, aka Mystique!
Although the 4-part Wolverine: Get Mystique arc by Jason Aaron & Ron Garney’s still stands as my personal favorite Mystique storyline, Theories of Relativity is easily a very close contender! If you want to hear more about my praise for Get Mystique, here's a link to the essay "The dualistic rivalry of Wolverine & Mystique" which I posted here a few weeks ago:
Theories of Relativity is quite notable in that it not only reveals for the first time in-continuity that the X-Men member Nightcrawler (aka, Kurt Wagner) is indeed the biological son of Mystique, but it also showcases the long-awaited family reunion between Mystique and Kurt along with the latter's adopted sister/fellow X-Man Rogue (aka, Anna Marie), and half-brother/anti-mutant bigot Graydon Creed. The issue's plot centers around Nightcrawler & Rogue investigating the assassination of a US general who sold weapons to the anti-mutant hate-group "the Friends of Humanity" and its leader Graydon Creed. They soon discover that Mystique killed the general in order to send a message that she's out for Graydon Creed’s blood after he hired his father Sabretooth (aka, Victor Creed) to assassinate Raven in a previous miniseries. Nightcrawler & Rogue are then cryptically sent to the latter's old Mississippi hometown where she was adopted by Mystique. However, the two are then intercepted by Creed who reveals that he is not only Nightcrawler's step-brother, but that they are both Mystique's biological sons. She had abandoned Creed when she discovered that he was not born as a mutant, and she threw an infant Nightcrawler off a waterfall whilst fleeing from an angry mob that perceived them both to be demons (Nightcrawler's was born with his blue-fur, while Mystique accidentally reverted back to her true appearance due to the pain of childbirth).
While X-Men Unlimited #4 is not a perfect issue by any means since some aspects like Mystique's foresight about Nightcrawler & Rogue specifically showing up to prevent her from killing Creed felt rather contrived, overall this was an emotionally powerful narrative which shines a spotlight on one of my favorite characters in not just the X-Men franchise, but in comic books as a whole!
Theories of Relativity effectively illustrates what makes Mystique such a complex and multilayered villain! True to her nature as a shapeshifter, Mystique is a woman of contradictions. On the one hand she's perfectly willing to sacrifice the lives of other people if it either means preserving her own life, or if said-person fails to fulfill her own agendas. But on the other hand Raven is portrayed as being capable of showing genuine love and affection towards individuals that she see parts of herself reflected in.
This dichotomy is most effectively demonstrated through the contrasting relationships between her two biological sons and her adoptive daughter. While Mystique expresses zero regrets regarding her cold mistreatment and abandonment of Graydon Creed & Nightcrawler, she conversely shows legitimate love towards an abandoned and orphaned Rogue, with Raven stating that she could relate to Rogue’s inability to physically touch others due to her own history of utilizing her shape-shifting powers to prevent others from touching her. Raven even goes as far as to claim states that both Rogue and her then-late wife Destiny (aka, Irene Adler) were the only people she ever felt genuine feelings for.
These conflicting aspects of Mystique’s personality are elements of the character which have always made her such a nuanced and compelling villain to me. Elements which have carried over into the modern era, such as with Wolverine: Get Mystique emphasizing Raven's duplicity and willingness to unashamedly sacrifice others in order to fulfill her own interests, while it’s direct prequel X-Men: Messiah Complex emphasized said-villainous traits as simultaneously being derived from Mystique's selective love for individuals like Rogue & Destiny.
In a broad sense, one could interpret Mystique’s hardened exterior and boastful pride of seemingly only caring about for herself as yet just another contradictory facade. A metaphorical form of shape-shifting that Raven's developed over the past century she's been alive for as a self-preservation mechanism which allows her to prevent others from hurting her, consequently hiding elements of her true self from the rest of the world in the process.
This is an interpretation which Theories of Relativity supports through its climax, wherein Mystique surprisingly sacrifices herself so that Rogue can save Nightcrawler from death despite referring to her son as "unwanted" earlier in the issue. Yet another contradiction in Mystique's facade, one which heavily reminded me of the plot twist from the Wolverine Goes To Hell storyline wherein Raven betrayed the Red Right Hand after helping them banish Logan's soul to Hell upon discovering the organization's plans to manipulate Wolverine into unknowingly slaughtering his own children. And Raven did this simply out of respect Logan's friendship for her then-deceased son Nightcrawler, putting aside her own selfish hatred for the sake of someone she genuinely loved.
Overall, X-Men Unlimited #4 is a prime testament to what makes Mystique one of my all-time favorite comic book villains. Additionally, there's a lot of fascinating queer themes which the reader can derive from this issue. These can include themes found-family through Rogue & Mystique's relationship, as well as Graydon Creed's status as a normal human who hates his two mutant parents being reflective of real-life instances of familial rejection occurring between cis-het adults and their queer parents.
The latter example is a theme which transgender YouTuber Vera Wylde from Council of Geeks mentioned in her brilliant "Mystique - Queer Icon!" video:
youtube
Plus, the issue also contains some truly hilarious scenes like Mystique shape-shifting into Abraham Lincoln whilst calling out the U.S. general's dishonesty before assassinating him!
And as a fun bit of trivia, I love how the dust-jacket of the Legionquest Omnibus which reprints this issue also refers to Destiny being as Mystique's "lover," even though this story came out in the 90s before it was confirmed that the two were a lesbian couple!
But yeah, overall, Lobdell & Bennett's work on X-Men Unlimited #4 definitely ranks highly among the quintessential Mystique stories IMO!

I'm gonna preface this by saying I'm neither a hardcore Nightcrawler or Mystique fan but as a longtime X-Men reader my main question is : Why does Marvel keep going back to retcon/rewrite Kurt Wagner's origins (especially after 20 years too man, I mean come on) like there's something wrong with who the bio parents he never/barely spent time with are (and in many realities never even finds out about) yet they still keep his first canon love interest (and the girl he constantly goes back to when she barges back into his life again) his own (adoptive) sister??
Ain't gonna tell me they can't finally split up Jimaine Szardos from Amanda Sefton now after they did it for Betsy Braddock and Kwanon in 2019
Don't care about who this elf's parents are or should be, if Marvel still went back to have him date the sister he was raised with since birth in 2014 (less than 10 years ago tf) like it was the most normal shit these people got no standards or priorities cuz that was and will always be fucked up and weird especially when there's nobody acknowledging it in either the writers room or character cast
Excellent point anon. They focus so much on his parental origin even though he rarely interacts with Mystique and actually seems to interact with Azazel more as one of his own rogues.
But yeah apparently Mystique and Azazel being both his parents are the problem not you know Jimaine Szardos and Amanda Sefton being the same person. Yeah that's fine his foster sister being his love interest isn't a stupid storyline element at all that should be iron clad canon and never changed at all ever.

X-Men Abridged 1985: Adventures in Asgard
The X-Men, those Asgardian mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!
(X-Men & Alpha Flight 1 - 2, New Mutants Annual ‘85, Uncanny X-Men ‘85 ) - by Chris Claremont and Paul Smith, Bob Wiacek, Arthur Adams
Yes, you see that correctly. That little falcon has a teeny-tiny mohawk on its tiny-teeny bird head, because comics are ridiculous. (New Mutants Annual ‘85)
You know what would really spice up the X-Men? To let them visit the most boring part of the Marvel Universe: Asgard!
As said before, for the Uncanny X-Men, 1985 has been a disjointed year. This was not helped by a sort of interlocking plotline that spread throughout one limited series and two annuals, all of them tied together by the presence of Loki. So that’s what we’re doing: we’re going to cover the reason why Loki takes a special interest in our merry mutants (Alpha Flight & X-Men Limited Series 1 and 2) and what happens when they are whisked away to Asgard. (New Mutants Annual ‘85 and Uncanny X-Men Annual ‘85.)
If you’re super-duper not into the Thor-part of the Marvel Universe, you can skip this one. All we really need to know, continuity-wise, is that Danielle Moonstar somehow becomes a Valkyrie and adopts a pegasus. If you’re not deterred, well…
Because this storyline deals with three superteams, the cast is absolutely huge. Hold onto your butts!
The Uncanny X-Men:
Cyclops: Scott Summers, red eyebeams. Currently on sabbatical to enjoy married life with his wife. Enjoy him while you can, because there will be massive character derailment coming up soon.
Madelyne Pryor. Cyclops’ wife. Bears an uncanny resemblance to his deceased girlfriend, Jean Grey, but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence.
Storm: Ororo Munroe, currently depowered. Is on a spiritual journey to find herself.
Wolverine: Logan. Clawed ball of anger.
Colossus: Piotr Rasputin. Russian tin man. Cuddly communist.
Nightcrawler: Kurt Wagner. Fuzzy demonic elf. Bae.
Shadowcat: Kitty Pryde. Phasing powers. The one teenager on the adult squad.
Rogue. Former villain, current flying brick. Steals powers and memories with a touch. Also bae.
Rachel Summers. Jean and Scott’s child from a future-that-never-was. Has yet to tell him this. Telepath. A little dramatic, even for an X-Man.
Professor Xavier. Telepath with boundary issues. The original dreamer and mentor to the X-Men and the New Mutants.
The New Mutants:
Psyche: Danielle Moonstar. Cheyenne, illusionist. About to have her backstory needlessly complicated.
Cannonball: Sam Guthrie. Human… well, you can figure that out. Good old boy.
Sunspot: Roberto daCosta. Fiery ball of anger.
Wolfsbane: Rahne Sinclair. Scottish werewolf who hates her human side and loves her wolf side.
Magma: Amara Aquila. Lava girl from not-so-Ancient-Rome.
Magik. Illyana Rasputin. Teleporter, demonic sorcerer and ruler of an infernal dimension. Has the most impressive resumé out of these young ones, also Colossus’ younger sister.
Cypher. Douglas Ramsey. Innate linguist. Cutie, perhaps not suited for the life of a superhero, but is just so very excited.
Warlock. Robot alien that can change shape. Pacifist born to a warrior race. Class clown.
Karma. Xi’an Coy Manh. Telepath that got possessed by a villain for a good long time, recently returned to the fold.
Alpha Flight:
Shaman: Michael Twoyoungmen. Chirurg turned sorcerer. V. man of science/man of faith.
Snowbird: Narya. Canadian half-goddess. Cool as fuck.
Heather McNeil: wife of the late Vindicator (ugh!), soon to be the next Vindicator. Leads Alpha Flight despite being human.
Puck: Eugene Judd. Tiny rubber ball man.
Sasquatch: Walter Langkowski. Canadian werebeast who loves his human side and Aurora’s human side.
Aurora. Mutant. Superspeed and supersparkle powers with her twin. Has a ‘split personality’, as written by someone who has no idea what that means. One side of her has access to her mutant powers and is fun, outgoing and flirty; the other is an introverted school teacher. The latter hates the former.
Northstar. Twin of the above. Superquebecois. Still kind of stuck in the closet, in a time where even the existence of the closet was vehemently denied.
Talisman. Elizabeth Twoyoungmen. Daughter of; magical conduit.
THEY UPPED THE LIMIT FOR PICTURES I CAN HAVE MORE THAN TEN PICTURES?!?
Madelyne and Scott are flying a crew of scientists over Canada, since Scott is trying his hand at being a regular non-X-Man person. They’re caught in a freak storm that Scott recognizes, because when you hang around Storm for long enough, you become a bit of a meteorologist yourself.
While I have full faith in Madelyne as a pilot, I'm still not sure it's wise to make Scott your co-pilot, since those ruby quartz glasses mean he’s essentially colour blind. (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
Half a continent away, the mayday is received by the X-Men. It causes Rachel to go haywire, because what if her dad dies and she never told him that she’s actually daughter? (There is actually an easy solution to that, but whatever.) Due diligence is for dummies, so she immediately goes on the attack.
Just as Snowbird arrives in the Alpha Flight headquarters to deliver some Grave Tidings©, Rachel arrives and easily mops the floor with Snowbird, Shaman and Heather, wife of the recently deceased Guardian/Vindicator. (A character I only know to be an asshole. Northstar tends to hate him, so I will do so too.) Aurora tries to turn the tide but…
Either Claremont wrote Rachel to be a grade A bitch here, or he has no idea how to write DID. Or both. Either way, not a great look for either of them. (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
Like Legion, Aurora has an interesting (if problematic) history in regards to her disorder and mental health. Unlike Legion, who has been allowed to flourish as a character since his inception and whose autism evolved together with our society’s understanding of it, Aurora tends to be defined almost solely by her dissociative identity disorder, which doctors these days aren’t sure even exists. While her history of abuse in a Catholic orphanage rings painfully real, the way her character tends to be portrayed as a vehicle for DID and little else is a disservice to such a promising character. (Read more here.) I’m glad that these days, she’s getting some love and agency in X-Factor and Marauders. (Even though I don’t understand one iota of the current Marauders run, but what the hey.)
Anyway, while I don’t love what Rachel is doing to Aurora here, I do feel that her mopping the floor with half of Alpha Flight is correct. Rogue swoops in after her to clean up the stragglers and she deals with Northstar by kissing him.
Hmmm. I wonder what secrets she possibly could have plucked from his head?
Anyway, after Rachel has calmed down, Shaman explains he had nothing to do with the freak storm and Xavier has been a hypocrite, the groups decide to join forces and find Scott, Madelyne and the missing crew. Let’s go, telepathy!
We then cut to Loki petitioning some shady old gods for power. However, in order to win their boon, he must give humanity a gift. A proper gift, freely given and willingly accepted. Hmmmm…
The X-Men and Alpha Flight fly off to a desolate mountain range – Kurt gets to wear a dashing hat! Jean-Paul and Rogue scout ahead and bond, which is my favorite character beat in this story. The two biggest misfits of these teams, it makes sense that they would be able to relate.
If only this had not been a case of Incompatible Orientation, perhaps some other French-speaking outcast mutant could have stolen Rogue’s heart. (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
In a field that is way too verdant for how high up they are, they stumble into a mysterious castle where they are greeted by Scott. He tells them everything is better than fine. They’re forced to believe him, because they can look him straight in his baby-blues! Scott is cured and can control his eyebeams!
See, all humans on board of the aircraft got imbued with super powers! Madelyne got transformed into Anodyne, and another into Cornucopia, capable of creating food, and others into evocative names like Lord of the Plants and Pathfinder. Madelyne immediately sets to work, curing Puck.
I don´t know if Madelyne´s powers made her taller or if she always was the size of a baby giraffe, but damn. Goblyn Queen got legs. (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
Madelyne also cures Rogue, although it’s a little unclear if her mutant powers are removed or if she can just control them. In any case, what follows is another cute moment between Jean-Paul and Rogue, where he willingly offers himself up as a guinea-pig for her to test her lack of powers on. She knows how much of a sacrifice that is for him, potentially opening up like that, and yet he follows through anyway.
It's adorable and I wonder if there´s such a thing as shipping but for friends, because I’m hardcore shipping Rogue/Northstar right about now.
Xavier pulls his usual bullshit when he reveals publicly that he senses another mind in Madelyne, forcing her to admit that she’s pregnant. (Boundaries, of course, only apply to people other than Professor X. God, sometimes you just want to bash him in his spherical head.)
Don’t run away, Rachel! This is the perfect soap opera-esque moment to scream out that you are the daughter they will never have! (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
Did… did the eighties really have leg warmers that came up all the way to your thighs?
While Kitty and Talisman follow Rachel after her self-imposed time-out, a powerless Heather takes a little dip in the magical fountain and gains powers (the aforementioned Pathfinder). At the same time, Shaman’s magical pouch gravely injures its owner, seemingly turning against him. What is going on?
Talisman and Kitty follow Rachel and discover an ancient Viking village hidden underneath the tundra. There, they try to talk the redheaded stepchild from the ledge: Rachel is out of her wits, realizing that her father getting a boy means that she will never exist. Kitty points out the inherent paradox in that statement, but then the village starts to collapse. They flee, but Kitty deduces someone is trying to hide something from her. She’s beginning to doubt this utopia.
When they return, they bear witness to Madelyne burning out Wolverine’s berserker rage. Kitty points out that she wouldn’t have survived Ogun without Logan’s berserker side, which is a fair point. (When does it stop being a cure and start being a catch-all for everything in the world you don’t like? Also, I bet she’s aching to get her hands on Aurora…) Kitty then presses that Wolverine go check on Snowbird, who is withering away. Wolverine, who is besties with Narya (who wouldn’t be? She’s arguably the best member of Alpha Flight), thinks that it isn’t a coincidence that both Shaman and Snowbird – magical creatures – are affected. Maybe there’s something rotten in paradise, after all.
Rogue, on the other hand, is enjoying the fuck out of it.
I don’t blame you, Rogue. I would also pick the haughty Quebecois over any of the other bozos on this trip. (Kurt’s the sole exemption, but you two are sort of related.) (X-Men and Alpha Flight 2)
Wolverine crashes the party and reveals that this utopia has a steep price: the extinguishing of all magic and their magical friends. (Which is an odd way to describe Snowbird, but in some ways, you could view her as a magical woodland creature. In any case.) The group splits down the middle, with most X-Men taking the stance that an utopia can’t be bought in blood and and most Alpha Flighters agreeing that the ends justify the means. (Yes, they are the worst.) Interestingly, Rogue, Cyclops and Northstar side with the X-Men, while Colossus, Rachel and Madelyne side with the Alphans.
You’d think this rift would maybe amount to something, but it’s quickly under rug swept. Sad. They could have done a Superhero Exchange Program and swapped Colossus in for Northstar.
Anyway, the obligatory fight erupts, until a few of the people on the Alphans side realize they’ve also been rendered creatively sterile. (The cook-turned-Cornucopia can’t think of new recipes, the architect-turned-Master Builder can’t dream up new buildings, etc.) That’s when Loki appears, all: “nbd, you’ll be as gods!” When the superpowered humans disagree – killing all magic is fine, but they draw the line at being robbed of their imagination – Loki gets angry and tries to force these ungrateful wretches to accept his gift.
That doesn’t go well for him.
They Who Live Above: “Swear you won’t harm these people! Swear on the dad you hate!” Loki: “...kay.” (X-Men and Alpha Flight 2)
Loki reverses everything, because Status-Quo is quite literally God, and Madelyne is stripped of her powers and Rogue and Cyclops are back to being not in control of their powers again. Also, Rachel still doesn’t tell Cyclops he’s actually her dad, so Loki’s new vendetta against the X-Men is literally the only thing of consequence in this godawful crossover.
Well, other than Kurt’s snazzy hat. (X-Men and Alpha Flight 1)
Loki’s vendetta carries us through to the New Mutants Annual, where the Lord of Lies is admiring Ororo through a mystical TiVo. He wonders what she would do to get her powers back and orders the Enchantress to fetch him Ororo.
After rescuing Karma from being possessed by the Shadow King, Ororo and the New Mutants end up on a Greek island to take a deserved holiday. While all of the New Mutants are hanging out on the beach, Karma is hiding out inside, afraid to face the world. Not only does she have to deal with all the evil things the Shadow King did while using her body, she also has to deal with the way the Shadow King abused her body.
While it’s not the tac I would’ve chosen, you could do a worse “reason to live” than spite. (New Mutants Special ‘85)
There’s an opportunity here for a storyline, one where Karma either has to work hard to go back to where she was or has to work hard to accept her new self. How cool would it be to have a fat superhero in a comic populated by people with idealized bodies? That’s not what we’ll be getting: instead, Karma will be shedding the extra pounds quicker than she did the Shadow King: I think it’s gone before the end of the issue.
Not begrudging anyone their body, thin or thick, but I do resent the implication that she was only fat because she was possessed by evil.
Anyway, all the skinny New Mutants are at the beach and Warlock is trying on bathing suits for size.
Warlock is reenacting that video where the model dresses in swimwear through the ages, going from the swimsuits of the 30’s to the oversized shorts of the 90’s to (hopefully) the men’s swimwear of 2023. (New Mutants Special ‘85)
Then, a cloud of darkness whisks them away to Asgard! Loki gives Ororo an avian makeover while he scatters the New Mutants, who go off on their own little side quests. Seriously, check them out, it’s like a DM took a chance on a Random Make-Your-Own-Adventure table.
Magik gets chained to a rock while the Enchantress, Loki’s sexy crony, tries to tempt out her wicked side.
Karma gets stuck in a desert and saves a kid from a Shai-Hulud. Apparently, a grueling trek through an inhospitable landscape is just the regimen she needed, because this is how she gets skinny again (fully off-panel).
Cypher becomes a serf in a mead hall. Next!
Wolfsbane falls in love with a wolf prince but then runs away from him, afraid of her feelings. It’s very furry avant la lettre.
Warlock breaks out of Hel and goes off to find his friends.
Roberto becomes embroiled in a bar inn brawl and is then hired as a glorified security guard. He’s treated as a big strong hero and is not-so-secretly loving it.
Magma is adopted by the fae, who get her drunk on their mead. This turns her into a pointy-eared fae as well. Whoops!
Cannonball saves a wench from dwarves and gets promptly adopted by them. His last name does not become Ironfoundersson.
Danielle saves a pegasus, rolls a natural twenty on her Wild Empathy check and adopts it. She names it Brightwind, not understanding that mounting her My Little Pony means she’s become a Valkyrie. Whoops!
Never figured that Danielle Moonstar, of all people, would become a horse girl. (New Mutants Special ‘85)
Loki orders the dwarves to make him a new hammer for a new thunder god. He’s barely gone before they start gossipping, saying his new falcon familiar is an enchanted one. Sam quickly deduces that it had to be Storm, because of the interesting colouring of the falcon’s feathers. (Not the MOHAWK? dafuqyousay)
The Enchantress manages to distill Magik’s Darkchylde out of Illyana and sends her out into Asgard. Evilyanna manages to recruit Wolfsbane, Sunspot and a fae-corrupted Magma, while Warlock (the only one who’s got his eyes on the plot) saves Doug and picks up Karma, Dani and Sam. The group then finally reunites and Karma makes quick work of the Enchantress’ hold on Illyana. In retribution, Magik sends a manacled Enchantress to Limbo as a gift to S’ym. (S’ym is not to harm her, which sidesteps some unfortunate implications. Phew!)
Sam cautions them to get the X-Men, but since they all have unfinished business on Asgard and want to screw things up for themselves, the New Mutants decide to save Ororo all on their own! Claremont thinks differently, however, deciding to add yet another team to this already bloated cast.
See, apparently, Kitty and Illyana now have a psychic link, despite neither of them being telepathically inclined. Kitty dreams of Asgard and sees a Thorified Storm fighting the Darkchylde, because apparently this connection is interdimensional! This is enough to convince the X-Men to go to Asgard and save the New Mutants! And they will travel to this otherworldly realm using the magical thunderbolts that some C-lister villain left behind three annuals ago!
Yeah, Claremont is definitely taking a few narrative shortcuts here. But who cares! It’s time to suit up!
This is about the least subtle DUN DUN DUN I’ve ever seen, and I watch daytime soap operas. Oh, Maddie. (X-Men Annual ‘85)
While I get that the Phoenix makes for a cool style guide, Rachel, you’re kind of dressing as the thing that killed Cyclops’ wife. And even if he’s not on the team, you’re also kind of dressed as the thing that killed Wolverine and Colossus’ friend, so…
Like I said, narrative shortcuts.
Also, we’re at the point where Rachel told the X-Men Cyclops is her dad, but not Cyclops himself. Cyclops, on the other hand, suspects but is unwilling to ask. ffs
In the grand style of villains everywhere, Loki reveals his masterplan to his pet bird: he plans to groom her as the new God of Thunder, replacing Thor and making him the ruler of Asgard! Evil! Feminist, but evil. He also reveals Storm is under his magical thrall: for example, he is turning her desire to get her powers back against her. Meanwhile, the New Mutants are following Loki until he suddenly shoots them down! (It doesn’t help that they’re riding in Warlock, who’s transformed in an airplane, which are decidedly not native to Asgard.) Once again, the New Mutants are split up. Most importantly, Douglas and Warlock are separated from the rest and they use that opportunity to have sex for the first time.
There is (once again) no heterosexual explanation for this. (X-Men Annual ‘85)
The X-Men, meanwhile, save the wolf prince that’s simply smitten with Rahne from some trolls. As Hela comes to collect the souls of the trolls, she commends Phoenix for being the new, well, Phoenix! (Which is perhaps a clue that your choice is slightly problematic.) The wolf admits to tracking Rahne and the X-Men follow him until they run into the City of Asgard. Here, they split up: Kitty, Rachel and Wolverine infiltrate the city while Rogue, Nightcrawler and Cyclops follow the wolf. But first… Rogue gets them some outfits, so they can blend in.
I’m assuming Rogue raided either a temple or a brothel. (X-Men Annual ‘85)
In the City, these three reunite with Roberto, who does not want to go home. He is blinded by the glory of being a beloved hero in Asgard, plus he’s on the outs with his parents, especially his dad. Wolverine’s pep-talk is interrupted by aggressive rock trolls and though they emerge victorious from this battle – thanks in part because of the melded Douglas/Warlock – Wolverine ends up horribly poisoned! Oh no! (This was before Wolverine’s healing factor gave him basic immortality, so there’s actual stakes.)
The other three chase the wolf and run into Rahne, Karma and Illyana, just as she’s doing a locator spell on Loki. (My God, this recap would be six times shorters if all these people just fucking stuck together in cohesive groups.) Loki plays a reverse Uno, using Magik’s spell to teleport to them and, together with an enthralled Storm, he captures them all.
Dani, meanwhile, sees a death omen around Wolverine and finally realizes she’s a Valkyrie. Don’t look a winged horse in the mouth, etc.
Loki throws a banquet to commemorate the deification of Storm! That’s when the X-Men and the New Mutants attack! (All of them! Some are disguised as Vikings; the others just escaped from Loki’s cell.) Despite the X-Men trying to stop her, Storm still grabs Loki’s big hammer.
Fair’s fair, this would have been a great way for Claremont to give Storm her powers back. Besides, this look is dope enough to warrant a shift in status-quo. (X-Men Annual ‘85)
Wolverine begs Storm to see reason, but then he keels over due to the poison. Hel, always a professional, appears, comes to claim Logan’s soul. This causes Storm to snap out of her enthrallment and together with Phoenix, Cyclops, Dani and Dani’s new sisters, they chase off Hel and Wolverine survives.
Kitty, meanwhile, indulges in her favourite hobby: shouting at people in authority. She tells Loki off, informing him that he can’t hope to stop them all. What’s worse, they’ll spread the truth about Loki’s perfidy throughout Asgard – which, if my Norse mythology serves me well, they should already be aware of, but whatever – which will endanger his plans of Asgardian domination.
Loki, who’s finally had enough of this storyline – as have I – relents and gives them one rule: either they all go, or none of them go. And they have to forfeit everything they got in this land, including Rahne’s wolf lover (aw!) and Amara’s elf form (yay!). In order to prevent this storyline from being completely useless, Karma keeps her physique and Dani keeps her new horse. Yeah, even Loki doesn’t give a fuck anymore about the rules he established two panels ago.
He offers Storm godhood one last time and this time, at her full wits, she denies him again. She’d love to fly again, but not at the expense of helping Loki. (It’s a nice narrative trick, because at this point, the audience is also rooting for Storm to get her powers back and this would be the perfect way to do so.)
Loki falls in love with Storm because she tells him no, presumably providing some keen insight into the hearts of men both mortal and divine, and then clicks his heels three times to send them home. They disappear and this finally, finally, ends Loki’s interest in our merry mutants.
DONE!
Fine, two more highlights. Here’s Warlock saving the day as the Enterprise:
And here’s Warlock, proving he’s watched more Star Trek than Vikings:
My God, this plotline dragged on so long, it took me a year to write this.

Has anyone else been disappointed over the lack of platonic yandere Marvel content? Especially for groups like the X-Men or Fanatastic Four? Now, as I've mentioned in a previous post, I like the X-Men. Part of the reason I have started posting is because there are so little posts of them, or for other Marvel characters and factions, being platonic yanderes. So, I've decided to post ideas and headcanons I've had or want to see more of. And, to be honest, who doesn't want to see some of these characters as platonic yans? Some characters I'd want to make these for include, but aren't limited entirely to:
• Wolverine/Logan Howlett
• Sabretooth/Victor Creed
• Marvel Girl/The Phoenix/Jean Grey
• Cyclops/Scott Summers
• Rogue/Anne-Marie
• Gambit/Remy LeBeau
• The Fantastic Four Team
I also don't mind some of these people's relatives. Let's face it, any one of these characters, plus their family (which depends on the media), were to share a bby, that person would be the most protected person in their group. Some of these relatives (adopted or by blood) would be fun to explore. Some of those characters (which are pretty awesome, and deserve to be mentioned) are:
• Wolverine/Laura Kinney
• Daken/Akihiro
• Cable/Nathan Summers
• Nightcrawler/Kurt Wagner
• Mystique/Raven Darkholme
And these are just a few, to begin with. With all the different comics, animated series, anime, movies, books, and alternate realities/timelines/universes of Marvel, there are many, many possible characters and relations. Heck, in the X-Men MCU, Wolverine and Sabretooth are half-brothers! And the comics played with the idea of those two being related... I think that dynamic would have been interesting.
