NAME: Ban Mido

FACTION: The Rikthimi, living in the junkyard region

ABILITY: Ban has the ability to make anyone who meets his eyes live through their worst fears, their absolute nightmares, though only until he next blinks, though that can feel like an eternity to those people.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: Through prior training in Tewagi as a child, Ban has learned a unique martial arts style that allowed him to have a grip strength that can crush up to 200 pounds.

FACTION: The Rikthimi, currently the lower floors of The Tower

ABILITY: Ginji has the ability to manipulate electricity, generating it from inside his own body, but also being able to manipulate electricity from outside his body.

ABILITY: MakubeX is a technopath, with an innate knowledge of technology and the ability to control anything made from technology.

ABILITY: Himiko has the ability to release powerful scents from her body, seven in total, which all have different effects on anyone who inhales them.

FACTION: Himself. Honestly, it's himself. Born on the upper levels of The Tower, he holds no high regard for The Tower or The Rikthimi, only in search of amusement for himself and strong opponents to satisfy his bloodlust.

ABILITY: Akabane has the ability to make any sort of weapon out of his own blood, though, of course, to use them does mean that he needs to make himself bleed.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: This man is a fearsome person. He has incredibly accuracy, power, stamina, agility. He's truly a very strong fighter who very few can match, and because he enjoys fighting and killing, he's someone most people tend to stay away from.

NAME: Hevn

FACTION: The Rikthimi, living in the junkyard region

ABILITY: Hevn has the ability to read the memories of an object, though only for a short period into the past. She can dig deeper into the past, but it really strains her ability and saps her lifeforce, so she only does it in extreme situations.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: Hevn currently works as an information broker, with seemingly endless helpful connections. She always 'knows a guy for that'.

NAME: Paul Wan

FACTION: The Rikthimi, living in the junkyard region

ABILITY: Paul was born with the ability to harness and control the wind, though he cannot generate it.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: Let's just say that Paul knows a lot more than he's letting on at any given time, especially considering his previous work as an information broker.

NAME: Natsumi Mizuki

FACTION: The Rikthimi, living in the junkyard region.

ABILITY: Natsumi can control gravity, in small amounts. Her ability is rather weak, compared to some of those around her, but she can generally manage levitation over long distances of small objects or heavier objects over short distances.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: None as of current.

NAME: Juubei Kakei

FACTION: The Rikthimi, formerly the lower floors of The Tower

ABILITY: Juubei can create white and black needles from within his own body. The white ones are used to heal, the black ones to harm as they are coated in a poison he generates inside his own body.

ADDITIONAL ABILITIES: Juubei is medically very competent, and has served as a makeshift doctor during his time living in The Tower.

NAME: Haruki Emishi

FACTION: The Rikthimi, formerly the lower floors of The Tower.

ABILITY: Emishi's blood is explosive if spilled.

Happy October! Could I request something (headcanons, drabble, general disorganized thoughts, honestly whatever happens to strike your fancy) about the act of courting Akabane of Getbackers infamy? He seems like the sort who might appreciate someone both direct/bold enough to try it in the first place, as well as patient enough to approach courtship as an art and a game. A bit of clever, stylish pageantry is a fun little appetizer when it comes to wooing someone, after all. Pity to rush through it without taking the time to properly enjoy the figurative scenery.

And a happy December to you, my lovely anon, if you are still reading, which I hope you are! I cannot tell you how excited I am about this request because I think it's my first official GetBackers request - most of my written stuff is just me throwing out random headcanons about it! I hope you'll enjoy the headcanons!

Okay, but first off, any courtship with Akabane is going to be a lengthier one. As you rightly said, courtship and relationships in general in any forms are games to Akabane. He thrives off the thrill of the chase, making it a fun little game of cat and mouse, of predator and prey and he'll want to drag that thrill and amusement out for as long as he can.

You are also very right in that the person he is courting is going to have to be bold and confident enough to show at least that initial attraction or interest in him. Akabane is not a man who really thinks in terms of romance, desire, or attraction, not past maybe a fleeting thought here or there. Even if he does find someone attractive, he's unlikely to pursue a courtship because it's just not something that naturally occurs to him to do. With that person being the one to instigate the game, to show that desire to him first, it will get his mind going in that direction and it will intrigue Akabane...pique his interest, and we all know what Akabane gets like when he becomes interested or intrigued by something.

Now, I have to say, and it's because it's a really strong headcanon for me, but in any courtship, any romantic relationship, heck...any relationship in general, there is always going to be a mingling of...hmm, I guess sex and violence is the best way I can think of to put it. While having a badass interest would really get Akabane interested, intrigued, and a little hot under the collar, he's also got a soft spot for weaker people, finds it interesting if they're also a little foolhardy or confident enough to put themselves in dangerous positions...or, you know, confident enough that they won't automatically run from the dangerous positions and situations Akabane will plan to put them in, because he will definitely do so. Because it's such fun to him to swoop in and save them, of course.

Like, normal dates? Not going to be a thing with this man. Showing up at their door at midnight, covered with other people's blood, carrying flowers, and wanting to discuss his latest adventures and how fun everything was over a late night coffee with them? Totally going to be more his speed and the person he is interested in will have to be able to not only roll with that but enjoy that aspect of him or they will switch to being just another boring person to Akabane.

That's not to say he'll want that person to just accept everything he does and support all his ideas and actions. Not in the least, actually. Akabane finds it thrilling and fun to be challenged every now and again, and someone who holds back their opinions to keep the peace is not going to be someone who will hold his interest for any length of time. Yeah, I realize the last two points are somewhat contradictory with each other, but Akabane himself is a very contradictory person and he enjoys those aspects of others as well.

Get Backers: Un antiguo anime pero muy actual

Get Backers es uno de los últimos mangas/animes que he visto y, sin lugar a dudas, uno de los más interesantes.

Escrito por Yuya Aoki e ilustrado por Rando Ayamine, Get Backers (GB) trata de la historia de dos jóvenes, Ginji Amano y Ban Mido, que son la tercera generación de recuperadores, un equipo que se encarga de recuperar todos aquellos objetos o cosas (en ocasiones inmateriales) de valor que la gente ha perdido o le han usurpado, pero siempre consiguen liarla de alguna manera para conseguir estar sin blanca.

Para llevar a cabo su trabajo, este peculiar grupo harán frente a toda clase de enemigos mediante sus habilidades sobrehumanas: Ginji con su capacidad de generar electricidad y Ban con un agarre con el que puede ejercer 200 kilos de fuerza y su ojo demoníaco o Jagan que le permite poder encerrar en un sueño a sus enemigos durante un minuto pero con tres limitaciones: 1) sólo puede ejecutar esta técnica si se ha mantenido contacto visual con él, 2)  no puede ejecutar esta técnica sobre el mismo enemigo hasta pasadas las 24 horas, 3) no puede ejecutarlo más de 3 veces al día o le espera un destino peor que la muerte.

Conforme avanzamos en la historia, podemos observar la entrada de muchos y variados aliados y enemigos siendo, personalmente, el más atractivo Kuroudo Akabane, alias Doctor Jackal, un transportista y un asesino cruel y despiadado cuyo único objetivo es la diversión que pueda obtener en ese trabajo.

Sin lugar a dudas, lo mejor de esta serie es, junto con su desarrollo de los personajes y las increíbles habilidades y peleas llevadas a cabo, su compleja historia (si no habéis leído el manga seguramente os hayais quedado un poco insatisfechos con el final de la serie o no hayáis entendido la gran profundidad de esta historia así que os recomendaría de todo corazón que lo hicieseis) que introduce esta serie una serie de reflexiones con respecto a tres temas muy importantes:

-¿Qué es la realidad?

Este es claramente uno de los temas que toca en mayor profundidad los creadores de este anime que es muy actual. En el mundo de GB, existe una enorme fortaleza en medio de Shinjuku que es conocida como la Fortaleza Ilimitada. Dentro de ella, nos encontramos un mundo cruel en el que el pez grande se come al chico, pero lo más interesante es que es un espacio virtual en el cual se puede modificar todos los aspectos del ambiente, creando campos de combate como el Gran Cañón e incluso personas. Sin embargo, estos espacios son reales en la medida en que creas que existe o si dudas sobre su existencia. No obstante, si estás seguro de que todo aquello que te rodea es mentira, se volverá una habitación normal. Más adelante, Makubex genera un espacio virtual, el interior de su ser,  que es capaz imitar no sólo el aspecto físico sino también se ve afectado por el calor, el olor, el movimiento del Makubex original y otros factores más.

A mi parecer, lo que quieren decir los creadores con este apartado, junto con otros muchos escenarios que desarrollan esta idea, se inclinan hacia la idea de la construcción de la realidad y la imposibilidad de distinguir la ficción de la realidad y su impacto.

La realidad se plantea así no como algo objetivo que todos podamos racionalmente observar, sino que posee una parte construida que se realiza mediante los discursos y ficciones. Es decir, la realidad no es un ente pasivo que observen las personas sino que la realidad se vuelve activa al nombrarla que genera efectos en el mundo “real” y como comprenderlo.

No obstante, yo interpreto que los autores sacan dos elementos claves para intentar dilucidar qué es real y que no es: la superposición de factores ambientales o circunstanciales y la conciencia del individuo sobre esos mismos factores.

Una realidad virtual se convierte en realidad en la medida en que haya suficientes hechos conjuntos y simultáneos como para que el sujeto considere que el supuesto que se le ha presentado es verídico. Es curioso porque aun cuando consideremos que eso es la realidad, quizás no lo sea. Así, nos encontramos con un escenario en el que existe un falsa realidad, por muy paradójica que parezca este concepto.

-¿Somos realmente libres?

Este es un tema que se trata en gran profundidad en GB durante muchos apartados ya que en el primer arco en el que se nos introduce la fortaleza ilimitada, Makubex encontró el archivo que es un documento en el cual se registran todos los acontecimientos que pasan en la fortaleza y, además, los predice con un 100% de fiabilidad, como si esos eventos estuviesen predeterminados por un Dios todopoderoso.

Aquí es dónde comienza este debate que se cierra al final de la serie y que, a mi parecer, acaba con la siguiente conclusión por parte de los autores:

La respuesta es un sí con matices. Lo primero es que no todos los seres humanos son libres sino que sólo algunos humanos son libres y esto se debe a:

-Factores ambientales: En el caso de Ban, los factores ambientales fueron muy determinantes ya que al nacer en la familia de la Bruja del Siglo XX, Ban fue destinado a acabar con Brain Trust desde su más tierna infancia. Así, Ban llevó una estricta disciplina que le marcaría durante toda su niñez y, posteriormente, se revelaría contra ella misma como un intento de liberarse de ese designio.

Sin embargo, al huir de ese destino más le acechaba este pues, curiosamente, desde su ida de la casa de María, se topó con Eris que era una niña vudú que, justamente, iba a surgir y tuvo que asesinar para evitar su muerte, ganándose la enemistad de los Miroku. Posteriormente, se juntaría con los hermanos Kudo que también eran niños vudú, teniendo que asesinar a Yamato y ganándose la enemistad de Kimiko.

Finalmente, Ban acepta su destino y emprende su destino hacia la Fortaleza Infinita para llevar a cabo su destino como descendiente de la Bruja del Siglo XX pero, tras llegar casi a la cima del edificio, tiene que enfrentarse a su amigo Ginji en la batalla del Ogro por determinar quién llegará al último piso y, como recompensa, ser el creador del nuevo mundo.

La pelea se resuelve de una forma curiosa: en lugar de haber una lucha entre ambos en la cual uno de los dos acabaría como vencedor y el otro como derrotado, Ban utiliza su Yagan por cuarta vez y le concede a su amigo el derecho a ascender la escalera.

¿Qué quiere decir todo esto? En primer lugar, el impacto del ambiente o, si lo preferís, el entorno el que uno se desarrolla es determinante e imposible de escapar ya que al final todo gira alrededor de ello pero como individuos hay siempre dos opciones: la negación y huida del mismo o afrontar la situación y ser consciente de ello.

Sólamente en este segundo escenario, es posible ser libre ya que hasta que los problemas generados dentro de este espacio sean resueltos, ellos serán quienes te dirijan en tu vida o, como diría Carl Jung, “lo que no se hace consciente se manifiesta en nuestras vidas como destino”

-Los sentimientos: Por muy cliché que esto parezca, este es el otro requisito necesario para poder ser libre y se centra en los sentimientos. OJO: no se basa únicamente en el control de las pasiones, debido a que si no puedes controlar tus impulsos, eres esclavo de tus pasiones. Es verdad que también tiene parte pero el punto central es la capacidad de poder alinear tus sentimientos con respecto a lo que tu corazón desea y lo que tu mente te dice que es posible como combustible y vínculo entre ambos para poder llevar a cabo tus metas. Esto se observa en el personaje de Ginji Amano que, aunque lo hace como acto inconsciente, cuando pelea contra Makubex en la Fortaleza Infinita.

Con esto concluyo, no tenía pensado que el post se alargase tanto pero, sin embargo, espero que os haya gustado esta pequeña reflexión y ya más adelante trataré otros animes de forma menos filosófica.
