Oh my gosh, that’s a very hard question… Hm actually you know what, I might be misremembering this because of an alternate ending fanfiction that I take as canon, but the main character of the Bartimaeus Trilogy, ‘John Mandrake’. I need to reread it but I remember it being great. Artemis Fowl, similarly.

It’s his 45th birthday today! With the number of roles he has, you would never suspect that he had quite the bump in his career. He has over 300 anime roles alone! And he frequently gets more every season! He’s regarded as being in the top ten male seiyuu. He actually doesn’t need glasses despite his default appearance. Kuro - Ciel Phantomhive would be a really good match for you, you’d balance each other out so much. You’re quiet and reserved but Ciel would be able to tell that there’s more to you than you initially show. I think your passion and childlike nature may annoy Ciel on the surface, but he would actually be clingy (spending more time in your presence than he usually does) just so he can bask in someone who is able to show the way he wishes he, himself, could be. You’re studious and sassy and making comments about the nonsensical manner of the textbook you’ve been given is practically the basis of your friendship and then relationship (many years later, when Ciel is fully grown, settled in his estate etc.) You’re intelligent yet fanciful and this would help balance out the boy being basically raised by a demon (so is it any wonder that in canon, he’s a bit of a mean person?).

OUAT - Rumple would, again, I think be a good match for you. You’re empathetic and someone with this kind of nature would be good for someone like Rumple who is often seduced by the darkness - the easiest option, some would argue (effort has to put into being and doing good whereas being bad is effortless) so you would be there to help him understand his own self and to help him… not leave the dark and come to the light, but find a nice balance between the two - no one is wholly good or bad. You’re studious and sassy and I think Rumple would help to fuel your curiosity and intelligence by getting you to assist him in the shop, where he would teach you about the (sometimes stolen) artefacts etc.

Sherlock - John is probably the better match. He’s got a darker aspect to his personality like everyone in Sherlock but he’s got discipline and also the sassy mischief to keep that part of him less evident; grounded. You have intellect and daydreams, something which would intrigue John, and I think he would want to see if there was a way to combine these things; to get science and magic, as it were, brought together so you can have both your passions as one. He’d be very supportive of anything you want to do but he wouldn’t tolerate any kind of self-sabotage; he’d be the driving force for your motivation out of a need to see you genuinely succeed. You’d get on well with Sherlock so really, you’re all John would ever need or want.

CG - Suzaku would need your compassion and your empathy after a lot of events happen to him in canon; you would be there to ground him, to comfort him, to help him and love him. You would stop him from becoming someone he can’t come back from, and you would remind him of simpler times. He’d be your rock, too, and he would admire your quiet intellect. He wouldn’t be bothered by your initial reservation, and would definitely want to get close to you so that he could come to learn about you when you’re at your most passionate, childish state. Your passion would definitely give him hope for the future and in turn he would want to give you the world.

Honest opinions on YYH villains. Go!

Already did a few of them, so we’ll make this a bit faster.

Tarukane - Scum of the Earth. Gross head, and jowls.

Sakyo - Cunning as hell, largely psychopathic, and a confusing character. I worried for Shizuru if she actually wound up with him. To his own admission, he tortured and killed animals, has murdered tons of people and his goal was to open a portal to demon world, which could have flooded the world with death and destruction. A moment of kindness in saving Shizuru was nice and all, but he’s still a bad guy through and through.

Saint Beasts - I’ll lump these guys together. Cool designs and abilities for each of them, Seiryuu and Suzaku are largely dickheads, but their plan was interesting although easily countered. They may have infected some humans with Makai insects and caused some property damage, but their whole plan centered around a flute not breaking. Pretty weak. Granted they were strong and apparently feared, but half of them went down incredibly easily. A bit underwhelming. 

Rando - I thought his design was cool as hell, and I loved his premise of hunting down 100 human psychics to learn their techniques, master them instantly, and use that ability to kill the psychic. Shrinking Kuwabara, then snapping his arms one at a time, was truly sadistic. And that sadism is what got him beat. If he’d just killed Yusuke quick and easy, he would have won, but he was playing around. Dumbass. 

Sensui - Probably the best villain of the series. At one point, I felt really bad for this guy. A human, led to believe that demons were the true evil of the world, living only to kill and destroy humans. Then finds out that the humans he was fighting to protect, could be and were just as disgusting and horrible as the lies he was fed about demons. Shattered that man’s mind so badly, he went on a rampage, killed every human he could get his hands on in the Black Black Clubs torture chamber, then developed seven personalities to try and cope with the mental damage. Though as much as I felt bad for him in that sense, he is the cause of multiple people’s deaths during the Chapter Black saga. Tried to kill Mitarai, caused serious harm to Botan and Shizuru, caused Game Master, Murata, and Gourmet’s deaths, killed Yusuke…all for his goal of going to Demon World so he could die there. His plan was well executed, I’ll give him that, but dammit if it wasn’t annoying as hell all over. He purposefully showed several members of his gang the Chapter Black video, to turn them against humanity and help with his plan. His guilt over killing potentially innocent demons, to save possibly horrible humans, put millions of innocent humans at risk, and that’s not cool dude. 

Itsuki - I really don’t have a lot to say about him. Creepy, twisted guy. Togashi said Itsuki was one of his favorite characters, and he wanted to show a lot more of his sick side…and I’m kind of glad we didn’t get to see it. Happily watched Sensui descent into madness, and that certainly makes him an asshole in his own rights. 

Sniper - Cool look, but the edginess is too much. His territory is cool. Loved Hiei stabbing him so effortlessly, and he’s lucky to be alive. Post Chapter Black, he seems to beat/kill some guys who killed a cat, so that’s cool. Good guy for that.

Doctor - What a bitch. Stop dragging innocent people, let alone doctors, nurses, and sick people, into your twisted fight. Glad he got the shit punched out of him by Yusuke. At least after all the Sensui stuff, he seems to actually get back to helping people. Cool abilities though. 

Gourmet - Gross. Though no one deserves to have Elder Toguro growing inside his stomach and slowly consuming his body from the inside out. That was pretty fucked up. And he got his head cut in half by Kurama. Oof. Sad time for Gourmet. 

Game Master - I applaud this kids talent for video games. As a game lover myself, it was nice to see games be brought to life. However, he’s a stupid kid who was easily tricked, and died because of it. Glad he was revived by Koenma, but still, stupid kid for falling so easily for “Cool Mr. Sensui’s” trick. 

Zeru - Cocky dick. Strong though. Hiei had no choice but to use the dragon on him.Roto - Cowardly dick.

Dr. Ichigaki - Massive ugly dick. Ultra fucked up to poison someone, then coerce their subordinates to become your slaves with the promise of healing said person…and not doing it. Glad he’s dead. Risho - Pinocchio looking dick.Gama - Was pretty cool actually. Creative ability, fought to his death for the cause he believed in, even if it wasn’t really worth dying over. 

Makintaro - Ha. Why’d he freak out of his arm being cut off so badly if he could just regrow the damn thing?

Ura Urashima - Ha. Felt bad he was killed by his teammate though. Shishi’s an asshole. 

Kuro Momotaro - Stop smacking your gum asshole! Was surprised he was able to put up such a good fight against a very weakened Hiei, even if it was only because of those dango.

Yokai Watch Corocoro Leaks (September 2018)

Corocoro leaks have been coming out, so I will translate under the readmore.

Beware of spoilers, naturally!

This month’s issue has some neat new yokai revealed.

Some Yokai Watch World stuff (mostly won’t translate that part)

As always, I will do my best to translate any new information I can make out.

Before we start the actual translations, let me mention the Yokai Watch World stuff in this issue.

It probably won’t help anyone who reads this, but it had a map of were in Japan certain yokai are going to appear, from what I understand.

It also showed off a new special dark version of Nyan-kishi (Sir Nyancelot) called Kuro Nyan-shiki. From what I understand, you need a code from Corocoro to get him?

And lastly, there will be autumn-themed variants of various yokai. It’s been a very common thing for the game to feature new variants for any sort of occasion so far.

(Note: Zashiki-warashi is the same kind of yokai that was called “Gnomey” in English. This specific Zashiki-warashi was previously shown off in other pre-release materials.)

New DX Genbu Hōtenfu & Yokai Ark Set!!

Genbu's Yōseiken, which has a sword and an axe mode!! Sakigake Merameraion's Ark is included as well.

(Notes:

ゲンブ法天斧/Genbu Hōtenfu means something like “Genbu Lawful Heaven Axe”. Genbu is the Japanese name of Xuánwǔ.

This is the third Yōseiken toy to be released. You can see the images showing off how you can turn the sword into an axe by pushing up the hilt.

Like the Yokai Ark Holder and the Suzaku Sōtenzan, it comes with an Ark that is the special form of a pre-existing yokai.

From what I understand, 魁/Sakigake refers to something like leading, being a leader, charging ahead, etc.

The set will appearently be released around November, for 1382 Yen.)

That’s it for this month’s issue of the main Corocoro, but I also saw some interesting bits from the most recent issue of Corocoro Ichiban.

You can see them right here, it bascially shows off most of the Arks from the now released 2nd Ark set.

I don’t have the time to translate all of this, it’s mostly old information anyway, so I will just go over points of interest.

Most notably this seems to confirm that some of the previously unseen symbols are indeed meant for tribes.

Shuten-dōji and Dōketsu are both of the “Oni Tribe”, represented by this symbol:

In the past, the term Oni Tribe had been used to refer to oni yokai in general, without it being an actual tribe. But this time around it really seems to be one.

And Kaira is of the “Izana Tribe”, represented by this symbol:

The Onimaro Trio is still classified as being of the “Kaima Tribe”, called “Wicked Tribe” in English. The Onimaro were also called Kaima in the movie and classified as such in Puni Puni.

In this case, this is the symbol used for them:

I think it’s still possible these are going to be “special” tribes with only a few Yokai in them, like the Wicked, Enma and Hagure tribes were in the past.

ロボット掃除機 から生まれた妖怪。 A yokai born from a robot vacuum cleaner.

(Note: It could also be seen on the merchandise website, but this Ark reveals that Robonyan 00′s Lightside is indeed another Robonyan 00, instead of Almighty-kun from the episode. Though the robot is alluded to in the description.)
