Fuck it. I've been keeping this AU to myself for 10 years because I just didn't know how to approach it, but now I'mma share it, and you're gonna like it! Or not. I can't tell you what to do or what to like. I'm not your mom (I hope?) Different strokes for different folks, as they say. So again, not an artist. Best I can do is some scribbles. - I do write but I'm just not well versed enough in politics or war/combat to really turn this idea into a full fledged fanfiction. I dunno, maybe if enough people see this over time and show interest I'll give it a shot. Who knows. Quick Summary: The Borg corporation was only a tiny piece of a much bigger pie. It's collapse, though inconvenient, had ultimately only set the bigger operation back a few years, and perhaps it was to Kiril's advantage that it had. The US government had raided the abbey, "freed" the 1200 child soldiers within, and shut down the program. With the fall of Borg the United States was certain the threat had been eradicated and a war was no longer brewing. But they knew nothing of the bigger picture, and were still completely unaware that 300 of those "free" children had been mutated into bio-weapons with the strength of sacred beasts running through their veins. There had been concern for a time that some of the children might dare to speak out, but despite Vladimir and Voltaire's ignorance the youth had been programmed well. However, it wasn't just blind loyalty that kept them quiet. It was fear. Pure, unadulterated, fear. Those that felt any inkling to rebel (such as the members of Neo Borg) knew that to testify in a court of law, or to speak out in any manner would mean a fate far worse than death. They could never escape, and they knew that. When the time was right the children would be called to arms and would serve the operation resolutely. Those that refused to heed the call would simply be eliminated. What Kiril was unaware of, however, was that one of those children, one with a familial blood, had a rebel spirit much too strong to ever be quelled. With the power of the legendary twin phoenixes, one of life and the other of death, and his memories of the abbey nearly fully restored, 17-year-old Kai Hiwatari would soon be recognized as one of the most powerful, and most dangerous bio-weapons to have ever been created. And so.... Kiril's plans may yet be thwarted...

Interested??? Great! Alright *deep inhale* So this AU is set 2-ish years after the final season of Beyblade G-Revolution, though some parts of the series are altered (and the manga is entirely disregarded). Changes worth noting from the series:

Kai was in the Abbey from the age of 5 - 12 and didn't receive Black Dranzer until his final week there (more details later).

Black Dranzer was not created by Rasputin and is instead Suzaku's twin.

Kai is half Russian on his father's side, so legally his last name is Koscheyev - though he uses his late mother's surname "Hiwatari". This means Soichiro's (who I will be referring to as Voltaire to distance him from Japanese origins) last name, for the sake of this AU, is also Koscheyev.

Kai's family runs a Russian Pharmaceutical company, along with having many other investments including some of secretive military origins dating back as far as WWII.

The abbey was a military training facility first and foremost. Beyblading was only introduced as a way for them to get their hands on more sacred spirits to create more bio-weapons.

Yuriy did not take Takao to a different dimension in their battle at the end of the first season, he just used his abilities (more on this later) to wrap them in like an ice-cocoon... thing... I guess? (It's been 5 years since I last watched this series and my adhd brain does not retain information well so I'm likely to remember shit wrong.)

The events of Takao's battle with Brooklyn were not real and they did not destroy an entire stadium (because let's be real - people would have died). Brooklyn is a bio-weapon (more on this later) and used that power to get into Takao's head to create that reality as they fought. (maybe more on this in a later post.)

Vladimir offers Garland the power of a bio-weapon (though this is not explained to him properly) and it's this reason that he beats Yuriy so badly (because in this AU Yuriy is a badass who would never wind up in a coma after a beyblade match).

Kai's memory of the abbey does not fully return to him until after his battle with Brooklyn. Vladimir had to be incredibly careful not to unlock everything within Kai when he gave him Black Dranzer during the Russian tournament in season one (more on why later)

Dranzer's bit is gone - Suzaku is not. Kai is unaware that she still resides within him and has retired permanently from beyblading.

I -think- that's it for notable changes? I dunno, as I mentioned previously, the last time I watched Beyblade was during the Covid lockdown so I'm sure I'm misremembering things and forgetting others. It's an AU so just explain any other plot holes away with the power of your imagination. 🌈🦄🤷🏻‍♀️

The only ship I touch upon at all is Kai x Yuriy, and it's very light until the epilogue (which I might actually write as a standalone.)

MayBlade 2024 - Shadow

OHMYGAWD I'm finished! It took me so long I am behind with the drawing for healing, but whatever, at least I'm done with this one!

A drawing for the fantasy AU I'm working on - Kai and human version of Black Dranzer. Shadows are actually evil creatures in the fantasy world I created and Black Dranzer is directly connected to them. I started this drawing in SAI then I switched to Ibis so I could draw at work (lol). Also, random thing - the pattern on Kai's vest was taken from traditional Polish embroidery from my region. I don't know much about embroidery so I just googled the patterns and used the one that looked the best. Designing this outfit almost killed me... 😭 But I'm glad with how it looks! Originally Kai's outfit was supposed to be red and black but somehow it didn't look all that good so I switched to blue. Because he wears blue in the first season! It looks good on him 🩵

I'm going to take a short break and then pray I would be able to speed run drawing for the healing prompt. Even though I already know I am going to be late again.

Kai Hiwatari - Pursue or Push Away?

Requested by @jiamcgregor7 ! Tysm for being my first request!

It’s more plot building than words and it’s my first real fic in a few years but I hope you all enjoy! Constructive criticism is welcome! Especially with formatting and dialogue. If anything like "like, and, so" or scene building is off let me know too please!

When Kai suspected you had feelings for him, he was conflicted - he didn't know what to do!

At first he figured being the only girl surrounded by a bunch of guys made you feel weird, but then wouldn’t you have clung on to the Chief more? He was your brother after all.

You would check on Kai more than the rest of the team and talked to him even if he seemed like he wasn’t paying attention, but still you never pushed his boundaries. He would catch you glancing at him from time to time and if Tyson was annoying him you would try to get him off his case; resulting in Tyson accusing you of having feelings for the loner boy, but you would always deny it and clap back with something about Tyson just wanting to provoke him and some teamwork nonsense. But what if you were just that nice? Or what if you just felt bad and were taking pity on him?

But it didn't matter. Even if he knew for a fact you liked him, dating just wasn't his thing. He'd choose being the best over a relationship any day.

And yet when he was starting to think about you more he just talked to you less and avoided you as best he could. He needed to get stronger, not wonder if you would still be awake by the time he was done training to tell him goodnight; Your good mornings and anything else you would usually say to him was no longer met with a nod or hum in acknowledgement.

He could sense your shift in mood afterwards even if you tried not to show it. Still, he was the only one besides your brother to notice. But it's not like Kenny knew the reason or that he was the type to pry into his sister's business, so why was Kai so worried?

Well, he didn't like anyone around him, but he realized he liked you. A lot. You're so sweet and forgiving, letting him keep his distance but not wanting to let him feel ignored by the rest of the group. It only made him afraid of hurting you though; both in his journey to being the strongest blader in the world and by just being who he is; so he wanted to make sure you hated him so whatever he did wouldn't hurt you.

And so in the days leading up to the world championships he began to openly brush you off and was more rude towards everyone including you. At first you tried to reason with him, but a cold “You’re in my way y/n, can’t you stop trying to hold me back already?” had put a stop to any more pushing.

“I.. I’m so sorry” was all you managed to get out. He hated the look on your face just then, Kai was able to see how much it hurt with the way your hands moved to clench your chest and your eyes started to water — all he could do was hope you would grow more angry with him in time. “Um, I’ll go now..” were your last words to him that night.

And he had finally abandoned you along with the rest of the Bladebreakers after accepting the power of Black Dranzer. He didn't care nearly as much about what the others felt as much as he cared about how you did. He found himself distracted thinking about how you felt about any of it, but he's been chasing this power for so long so why stop now?

But then you and the rest of the team still went after him, battling him in the biting cold of Russia to try and make him come back. And after he was defeated all he could do was let his thoughts take over, his mind racing. Why was Black Dranzer so useless that it failed? No, it had to be him that failed? Useless! How could he fail? Does that make him a loser like everyone else he battled? He can't be so useless can he?

He didn't even realize he was rambling out loud until he heard your voice trying to tell him otherwise and to jump off the ice he was standing on. He didn't hear anyone else or realize the ice he was standing on had cracked and he was sinking, but when he did, he wondered for just a second if he should succumb to the freezing water.

“But, I can’t change!”

"Yes you can! Please Kai!"

He couldn't believe his former teammates, especially you, were begging for him to jump to safety or to rejoin the team.

“Kai! Please!” Tears were streaming down your face now, cold wind stinging your eyes so much you could barely see. “You can change! We don’t care we can talk it out just please take Tyson’s hand!” Your wailing and panic forcing you to drop to your knees, shaking more from stress and fear than the icy wind. “I’m not mad at you Kai please! You’re not the bad person you think you are!"

Even after he had been mean to you and betrayed your trust and very likely broke your heart you still cried over him?

Once he came to his senses and he grabbed on to Tyson’s hand, everyone managed to pull him out of the ice. He was finally saved and you ended up running to cling on to him, wrapping your arms around his neck, a weird hug but one he reciprocated with just as much desperation. Neither of you cared that you were being watched since your friends too focused on Kai's next moves and him joining the Bladebreakers again.

But after the incident.. neither of you really mentioned it...

Maybe it was just because a lot was going on, after all the world championships were coming up and Kai ended up going to a boarding school after he became the world champion so you two didn't get the chance to get closer.

He thought about sending you a letter or something once he settled in to his dorm but what would he even say? He'd get the chance to see you again soon though as he would come back to the team after being repeatedly targeted by a mysterious blader at his boarding school. He was quiet as ever, but he made it a point to get closer to you.

At least, he was trying.

Poor boy didn't know how to get close to someone, much less the girl he liked and was pretty sure he didn't have a chance with anymore.

His first attempt was right after the battle between Tyson and some strangely powerful kid. You two were left walking behind everyone else a little way's away. He insisted on being around you more — to protect you from any danger since you didn't have a bey and it "would be kind of a loss to lose a talented bey mechanic", he said.

“Haha! Aww thanks Kai!” “..Don’t mention it.” He really didn't want to give you the bare minimum responses anymore. Especially since you seemed to still like him, but he still didn't know what was too much or too little to say. “Tomorrow, meet me at the beach.” He was struggling to find an excuse.

"Hey Kai!" Tyson and the others had stopped as he was calling him over now and motioning to Hilary. “Bet you’re wondering who the new girl is!” You both kept up the pace, as you assumed you were going to catch up with them.

“Dranzer needs some new upgrades.” He said flatly before continuing his stride, walking past Hilary and the rest of the group. You had barely registered his words before responding.

“Huh? Oh, ok!”

He spent the entirety of that night trying to find ways to show he valued how knowledgeable you were, especially strategically. He wanted you to know that!

He decided that you would be the first person he would go to get an upgrade for Dranzer. He remembered how you used say every now and then about how you were always the second choice for bey mechanic even though you were just as good as the Chief. Even if you said it lightheartedly he knew how much it sucked to feel like you were second best, and you really were very good!

He secretly knew too that you always had ideas and noticed that you were too shy to bring it up to him directly so you would run it by your brother first, he was very observant. Both you and Kenny played the part of mechanic and technician but the team usually went to Kenny first since he was the faster worker.

This worried him though; he knew he wasn't doing enough to show his feelings towards you, and waiting on you to make a move was childish of him.

Which led you to now; you guys had finished your battle with Ozuma and the other mysterious bladers that targeted the Bladebreakers; Kai and Tyson were in the middle of training.

"Come on y/n! You finally finished your upgrades on Dranzer, how come you won't make a new version of Draciel next?" “I just finished Dranzer and I need to make sure everything is working the way it should Max!" Was all you could say in your defense. Max was never so pushy, but everyone was on edge at the moment.

"You're just saying that coz you like Kai better than us y/n." Ray jokingly replied.

"Huh?!" Heat immediately rose to your cheeks as you tried to find something to defend yourself. "C-Come on Ray! Dranzer took a heavy hit in its last battle and I want to make sure it's good to go in case of another emergency!"

Kai wondered if that was true though. You were honestly only ever working on Dranzer these days.

So the next day he decided he would try to tell you straight up how he felt. While the rest of the team was training back at the dojo, you were left to find any more information regarding the Psykick team and figure out anything that could be used to counter their plans. Kai was with you, training a bit away from you.

This was a regular occurrence; just you and Kai hanging out together away from the rest of the team. "It's not worth being around them right now anyway" was what he told you as he motioned for you to follow him. "How can anyone get anything done with the way they argue constantly?" Once you two got to the park however, he decided to do his training first to calm his nerves while you went straight to work, and you both ended up absorbed in your own worlds. So many things were on his mind, but he thought more about what his confession to you would be.

He decided to take a break from training and went to go sit next to you in the grass, your non-stop typing only halted for a second to see who was walking towards you. He guessed he only had a limited amount of time before he lost your attention.

He figured trying to start conversation would help. "What are you working on?" He asked while moving to lay down.

"Right now figuring out the weaknesses of the cyber bit-beasts," you leaned back a bit to analyze the information in front of you better. "If there's anything we can take advantage of I want to try to.." you continued with your rambling all while he paid attention to your expression. You were focused on reading and explaining the data, brows slightly furrowed and glossed lips moving a mile a minute. He almost lost focus while wondering how they would feel against his, hoping he wouldn't mess up if you two kissed. It's not like he's had his first kiss, he wants it to be you and hopes he'd be your first, too.

His finally went back to paying attention to what you were saying when he saw a sad smile grow. "..and Kenny thinks it's pointless and that it's better if I help him to compensate for any flaws on our side but I'm glad at least you appreciate me, Kai"

"Because I'm in love with you"

"Huh!?" Your laptop nearly fell off your lap as you flinched in surprise. "Like, like you mean-"

"How else could I mean it, y/n?" He sat up now, trying to keep his cool, looking you in the eyes and seeing your stunned expression grow red. Cute. "You're the only person I care about so much, and I know you care a lot about me too." You were still seemingly searching for a response, so he continued. "I really want to be your boyfriend y/n... if you'll let me." God he's never felt so vulnerable before.

"U-um" you moved your laptop aside so you could turn and face him better. "I really want to be your girlfriend too, Kai" you responded in a shy voice, your gaze falling to your hands. Fiddling with your fingers was a bad habit.

He gently grabbed your hand, trying to get you to look at him as he tried to find the least awkward way to word his question.

"Is it.. okay if I kiss you?" "Aha... I haven't had my first kiss yet.." He squeezed your hand reassuringly and smiled. "Me neither, I want you to be my first." "Thank you Kai," you smiled back. "I want you to be my first too."

You both leaned in, the awkwardness in the air was as heavy as the anticipation. As you both closer your eyes, neither of you realized you tilted your heads the same way and your noses bumped into each other, surprising you both.

You fell into a giggling fit, your nervousness making you hide your face in Kai's chest and your hand grabbing on to his shoulder for support.Kai wrapped his arms around you in response, letting his own laughter slip through - a rare thing for him.

As you calmed down, relief washed over you. Kai loved you as much as you loved him. You both looked at each other, confidence building as you leaned in again, lips finally connecting. It was clumsy and didn't last for very long, but it was perfect regardless.

“AHH!” Whistle~ "No way.."

The moment could have lasted longer though, and out of panic you and Kai separated and scrambled to stand immediately.

"Is this what you guys have been doing instead of training?!" Kenny started running now, Max and Ray behind him. "I thought you two were working! We have a serious battle coming up! We can't waste time!"

“It’s not- We were working!" Was all you could say in your defense.

"Working on eating each other's faces I bet!" Ray laughed.

Kai stepped forward, an embarrassed blush visible on his face. "Why are you here anyway?"

"Tyson quit the team!! Which you would know if you weren't busy going on a date and actually came to the team training sessions!" Chief growled out.

"This isn't a date! I could plan a much better date!" "TYSON QUIT THE TEAM!" "Then you better go find him! We were in the middle of something!" "Don't give me that! And don't date my sister!"

Your face was hidden in your hands while they kept bickering, embarrassed at the whole situation. Max and Ray walked closer to you, grins still plastered on their faces. "Aww congrats y/n, we were rooting for you guys." "Haha, thanks Max" was all you could think to reply, bashfulness still apparent. "Now you do have to admit you like Kai better than us haha" "Come on Ray-"

"Come on y/n let's go!" you barely had time to register Kai's words before he grabbed your hand and started walking away from the rest of the group.

"You better be home before I'm asleep y/n!" Chief shouted as Kai tried to walk faster. "We still need to swap data on team Psykick!"

"Where are we going Kai?" "That dessert place you like before it closes" he replied while slowing down his pace so you could keep up. "I'm taking you on a real date."

Like, this kind of headcanons about Kai going back to using Black Dranzer (not necessarily willingly lol) and (personally) half a dozen other things involving the two bit-beasts (Maybe I'll talk about that at some point).

Hi. I'm back with more concept stuff, but until I learn how to art I decided to do one of these aesthetic vision board things... or whatever.

Let's talk Bio-Weapons!

More specifically, what the mutation did to Kai.

(Refer to this post for background information on the AU)

Now, this is a controversial bit of the story as I know how people feel about OC siblings in fanfics, but Kai was born a twin. (Don't panic, twin is dead-dead. Like, burned alive dead. Charbroiled, if you will. Dust in the wind).

In their youth the brothers were chosen by the twin phoenix's, Dranzer (Suzaku) to Kai, and Black Dranzer to Volya.

During their time at the abbey, Volkov noticed the incredible power of Black Dranzer and couldn't grasp why he had chosen someone as weak as Volya to bond with. Volya was intelligent, but Kai was stronger in every other way.

As a rule (after many, MANY failures) the forced mutation between sacred spirit and child needed to be done with a bonded pair in order to be successful. Despite this, upon bringing the situation to his attention, it was decided by Kiril, Kai's father and the mastermind behind the NWO, that Kai would be genetically altered with Black Dranzer instead.

The risks involved in a failed mutation due to an incompatible host were most commonly death, but sometimes created what was known as a Berserker, or referred to as having "Berserker Syndrome". A Berserker was an unstable bond where the host and sacred spirit were constantly at war with one another to take possession of the body. This led to the bio-weapon generally being too unpredictable and if they didn't end up killing themselves they were often disposed of eventually due to being impossible to control.

* As of now there are currently two surviving Berserkers that remain active in combat, and six on standby to use as kamikaze "bombs".

At 12 Kai underwent the mutation process with Black Dranzer and despite hopes being high that the bond he shared with his twin would increase the chances of success, the bond failed and Kai instead faced the insanity that came with the Berserker Syndrome.

Two days later, Kai lost control and set the abbey ablaze, the black flames from the sacred spirit so hot they melted the stone. 68 People lost their lives, including Volya. Yuriy, who at the time was one of Kai's closest companions, was severely burned, and Kai was ultimately removed from the abbey.

Koscheyev Pharmaceuticals had been hard at work researching drugs to help with the Berserker effect. At this point they had concocted a tranquilizer that sedated the sacred spirit within, with only mild effects on the host. However, this eliminated the ability to use the spirit's power and so Kai became useless to Kiril for the time being.

Having lost his memory, whether from trauma or the drugs, Kai was dumped off with his Grandfather in Japan to recover from his burns and was supposed to spend the following years hunting Sacred Spirits for Biovolt.

As we know, this didn't go quite as planned.

Under Kiril's orders (and at the risk of cutting the dosage of Kai's medication) Volkov had attempted to re-introduce Kai to Black Dranzer, creating a look-a-like bit to encourage the boy to use the power again. Fortunately this backfired, and while some of Kai's memories of the abbey were restored, he still did not remember his brother, the fire, or the alteration done to him.

It wouldn't be until Kai faced Brooklyn, another Bio-weapon, that everything would come flooding back to him.

Brooklyn, afraid of a loss, and another Berserker with limited control, would have killed Kai if not for Dranzer (Suzaku's) sacrifice. She made the decision that day to do what Sacred Spirit's had not done since the early days of humankind, and physically bonded herself with Kai, giving him the power of both Phoenix's. It saved his life, and restored his memory.

*At this point, due to the tranquilizer, Kai was unaware he had the power of both Phoenix's and assumed Dranzer had given up her life to revive him.

When shit kicks off it is several months after the Justice Five tournament and Kai is desperately struggling with the trauma from the return of his memories. He remains on the tranquilizer to protect himself and those around him, but because of the added power of Dranzer the drug is becoming less and less effective. Fearing what he is capable of, Kai has done his best to push the members of the BBA out of his life for their own safety, but despite his best efforts circumstances actually lead him to live with the Kinomiya family when his sudden violent behaviour gets him kicked out of his boarding school.

This is where the AU begins...

Notable Markings:

- Kai was severely burned along his lower back and down his legs when he lost control and burned down a section of the abbey. Until he merged with Dranzer (Suzaku) he was not yet resistant to fire.

- Severe scaring all over his torso from punishments received as a child.

- Tattoos on his right inner forearm that are used to seal Black Dranzer's power (not the helm of awe as shown in the above graphic, but similar idea.)

Red "Pulse Lines" (highlighted veins that pulsate) around eyes and forearms when fire power is in use.

White "Pulse lines" around injuries when healing.

Red eyes (permanent) that glow like fire when powers are active

Black Dranzer:

When suffering Berserker Syndrome - Blackened skin from hands to elbow

"Pulse lines" extending up arms and around neck, face, eyes and torso.

Whites of his eyes turn Black.
