i don’t know who needs to hear this, but kristin is 100% in the right for blocking that fan in her instagram comments section. because that fan wasn’t just talking about the palestine boycott of disney, that fan was being rude, cruel, accusatory, starting fights in the comment section and generally being unhinged. that “fan” is appropriating real life conflict into a personal tool to bully and recruit fellow bullies to gain a personal sense of power. truly punishing a butterfly for flapping its wings believing that it caused the hurricane across the globe. completely out of touch to reality.

there is a reason to boycott every single company out there and people have thier lives to live. you don’t know the battles they have picked in their private life. and when you demonize people for not turning their personal accounts into political accounts you reward silence. i mention this because most of these unreasonable comments i see are fully willing to give ray and gerard a pass simply for not posting.

and if you really only want a statement from your favourite celebrities on world conflicts, more so then you want statements from your government and other world organizations- then you are the one who is out of touch.

Almost 3am and I physically cannot stop thinking about dark fluffy fae AU’s

Fae au… save me.. Fae au Save me fae au

I have decided that this is my chance to ramble about all the fae WIPS I have noted down so read all that under the break! It’s very very long so enjoy!

First concept is Phil being vaguely magic and then falling in love with Kristin and them having 3 half fae children who are just weird and wonderful.

They’re not human so they don’t entirely understand things (which can lead to them just being fucked up sometimes) but they still go out and spread their magic.

Techno toys with crops, using his gifts of magic for both good and evil while Wilbur weaved his own magic into his words and form. He can convince anyone of anything if he works hard enough.

Tommy would be a chaotic bundle that just shoots out spells at random, causing mayhem wherever he goes.

Another concept is a fairy au where the seelie have butterfly wings while unseelie have either moth or other insect wings I can’t decide. Techno, a seelie Prince, is given off to the other court as a sign of good will.

From my silly little notes he basically has to put off a massive performance for them to save his branch of the fae family tree. Problem is his parents are assholes.

Obviously shenanigans ensue where Wilbur decides to scope out this other Prince and ends up deciding that he’s brother materiel.

Queue him using a bit of madness magic to make Techno go a bit off his rocker and begin to get violent. It all would end in the big performance where he dances and dances and by the time he’s done he realises he killed all the others and then gets adopted.

I also have another AU where fae!Wilbur is pushed into having his own circle far too young and ends up trapped in a deal with human!SBI because of it.

General vibes of that one is that he’s way too young to be making deals of that kind but he gets forced into it anyway and now he has to try and trick people.

Techno comes across him since they set Wilbur up in the palace garden and immediately spots how bad he is at being a fae after Wil fails horribly at tricking him.

Obviously since Techno is incapable of being normal he starts to obsess because Wil took a similar appearance to him since he was the first person he saw. He’s ofc very very interested and now keeps visiting him.

Eventually after a bunch of visits Techno figures out Wils name and steals him away. He reassured Wil that he doesn’t wanna actually do anything bad, he just kinda wants to keep him as a brother and Wil can’t decide if that’s better or worse.

Ofc Techno has to show his new surprise brother to the rest of the family and they’re all not normal about it at all. Phil is probably like “aww what do you have there?” as if Techno didn’t just bring a magical fucking being into the castle.

They bind him in more deals probably. I think Wil would try and be like “I’ll give you whatever you want just let me go” and parentsduo try and let him down softly that he’s literally never going back to the fae realm.

And now I must reveal to you my Sweeter Than Honey brainrot that I hoard away.

First one is very very soft. It’s just a vague outline of Phil deciding to teach Techno how to bake and it’s everything Tech deserves and more. That boy deserves the absolute world.

There’s a small bump in the road where he’s not careful and kinda burns himself but it heals very quickly and he gets cuddles in the nest for it.

My next 2 centre around parties because I think fae have lots of them.

Yet again we have another silly one. It’s the first party that they’ve really had after Techno became a fae and he ends up getting swooped up between different groups of fae. He actually does end up making a few genuine friends and it’s yet again everything he deserves.

He heads out into a garden area with his new besties for a bit and forgets how bad the Prince going missing looks and comes back to Phil freaking out.

After the old man is done having a heart attack it’s time to wrap up and he gets excited to see his friends again sometime soon. He gets all tucked into the nest and dozes off a bit before Phil / Kristin ask him if he enjoyed it.

He kinda mumbles that it’s the first time he’s ever enjoyed a party and thanks them for bringing him to it. He gets a little kiss on the head and falls back asleep.

My final one and what I think is my fav from my STH brainrot chronicles is this one. It’s based off an ask where lenn explained that the masks on the ferry would turn the wearer into the animal it presented.

I think you all know where this is going.

So by now his wings are more grown in, maybe it’s an anniversary of his yoinking who knows, and they’re celebrating on the ferry that brought him over to fae lands as a symbolism thing.

Technos exploring the ship again since it’s changed up appearance a little and ends up finding the mask room again. He makes not the smartest decision and decides to try on a pig mask.

Ofc he turns into a pig and then shenanigans ensue. Probably Bad and Skeppy figuring out that Techno is now a pig and instead of telling Kristin and Phil they kinda just chase him around. It’s a whole situation.

Either way parentsduo figure out that their kid is missing. Again. They flip their shit but try to keep it on the downlow a little. For now.

Obviously they eventually spot Skeppy and Bad chasing around a pig on the boat and connect the dots. They kinda fawn over pignoblade for a while before Kristin reverses the spell.

Fun thing about the ferry though is that it has a sense of humour. One that carries into its magic as well. This apparently includes having Techno keep some of those pig features even after the spell.

He gets some pointy ears, tusks and a tail for his troubles and ends up a bit self conscious about it. Since he feels dumb for falling for the mask and also now he has all these pig features.

Kristin and Phil obviously won’t allow that and let him know just how cute they think his new features are. He feels a bit better after they maybe imitate the traits onto themselves as well.

After that they return to the nest and he falls asleep with his little tail wagging because that’s what he deserves.

I also have a vague idea for a Wilbur centric fae fic but that’s long and I’ve spent like 30 mins just rambling on this post already.

If there’s weird spellings, words or autocorrect then I’m sorry I literally typed this all on phone. I will maybe probably go fix it later if I remember.

yeah, the butterfly man is Shane 😔

Ryan rushes home hoping that one of his friends will know how to help. He throws the bag of snacks on the floor, pushes everything off his table, and gently puts down his jacket. Everyones just stunned and no one knows what to do.

Ryan’s immediately worried when he sees that the tiny man is sleeping right after a traumatic incident. Kristin is gently pulling some pins out of his wings, Ryan feels guilt over the fact that he didn’t notice. Sara suggests making some sugar water to get his energy up.

He feels a little better when he sees the butterfly is starting to wake up a tiny bit, trying to gather information by poking things with his crumpled antenna. He knows his dad is just a dentist but his dad is the only person he can think of that would have any medical knowledge.

poor guy is probably so scared :( good thing he wound up near the most kind and caring people.

Flashback: The Classroom

It’s ten minutes past eight on a Tuesday morning in Miss Gerstkemper’s class at Newcrest County Valley Elementary School. Mornings start with free time, so some kids are playing while others listen to a story the teacher is reading.

Vivian has just arrived.

Kristine: You’re going to get in trouble for being tardy.

Vivian: No I’m not!

Kristine was always sticking her nose into other people’s business.

Miss Gerstkemper: Vivian, do you have something you want to tell me?

Vivian takes a seat next to her best friend, Shandra.

Vivian: (excitedly) Well you see, I was walking to school when I saw this bee-yooo-tiful butterfly sitting on a bush and slowly flapping its wings...

Vivian proceeds to tell Miss Gerstkemper all about the beautiful butterfly and how she lost track of time because she couldn’t take her eyes off of it.

Kristine: Are you going to punish her Miss Gerstkemper?

Miss Gerstkemper: Well, Vivian is such a good student and this is the first time she has ever been late. That sounds like it really was such a beautiful butterfly, so I think we can let it go this time as long as Vivian promises not to be late again.

Vivian: I promise.

Meanshile, Herman has gotten his hands on some paint and is making a mess.

Joey: You’re going to get in trouble if Miss Gerstkemper sees you.

Herman: She’s busy talking to Vivian. I’ll just wipe it up when I’m done.

Herman soon realizes the mess he has made is too big to easily clean up. He wisely moves away from the scene of the crime and takes a seat in the reading circle. Miss Gerstkemper has started reading the book again, and Herman feigns interest in the story.

A few minutes later, Miss Gerstkemper catches sight of the mess out of the corner of her eye.

Miss Gerstkemper: Joey! What is going on over there?

Herman: (overacting) Oh my gosh, what happened?

Miss Gerstkemper: Why did you make such a mess, Joey?

Joey: I didn’t! I’m just over here playing trains!

Joey hastily gets up.

Miss Gerstkemper: You’re the only one over there. If you didn’t do it, then who did?

Joey is silent.

Miss Gerstkemper: That’s what I thought. Whenever there’s trouble, nine times out of ten, you’re at the center of it. Joey Darby, go to the principal’s office right now!

Herman cannot stop giggling.

Joey realizes it’s pointless to argue. The teacher already has her mind made up.

Joey: Yes ma’am. (turns to Herman) See you at recess, Herman.

Joey’s mention of recess is not a friendly “see you later” kind of comment, but rather a threat. He can’t just come out and say “I’m going to punch you at recess” in front of Miss Gerstkemper. 

Herman recognizes the threat and suddenly doesn’t think it’s funny anymore. 

Joey leaves the classroom.

Kitty was her mother’s last and most grand attempt to keep him. This was her final display of her true love and devotion, pulling out all of the stops, but it was still not enough. If there was one thing that a man hated the most it was when his mistress didn’t know when to give it up. Lorelai Briar was a pitiable creature; one who thought herself untouchable in the arms of a powerful man. He’d held her at night and forged promises of forever from temple kisses and extravagant gifts while he had his fill of her. Lorelai never imagined that he would discard her and return to his wife, but all flames of petty desire are doused by reality sooner or later. What use does a man with four children have for yet another child born of a fleeting affair? Lorelai was never meant to be anything more than a fun escape from the band of gold which shackled him to his wife’s doorstep. Love and children have no place in a formula so temporary, and so he decided that it was over. In the end, Lorelai held him tightly in her arms and whispered sweet words that were meant to sound delectable upon the eardrum, and he left all the same. It didn’t take Lorelai very long to realize what a terrible mistake she made by getting pregnant, but some mistakes are much too strong to remedy with a few crocodile tears. She lost him, and now she would be stuck with the memory of him everyday. Lorelai would lie awake at night, hands clutching her swollen stomach and praying that her daughter would be different than herself; than her father.

Lorelai tried to love her daughter. She held Kitty in her arms and rocked her like a loving mother should. She fed Kitty and did her best to provide for them two of them on her own. Blue eyes lined with a thicket of dark lashes would flutter like the wings of a monarch butterfly as Kitty looked up at her, but it did little to soften the disgust she felt whenever she thought about her father. In truth, his departure spoiled any good relations that Kitty might have had with her mother, and the chasm that stood between mother and daughter only deepened as the years went by. Everyday, Kitty would ask her mother to tell her about her father, and everyday her mother ignored her. “He was scum, Kitty. He ruined me, he ruined us. You should be thankful that you didn’t turn out like him.” Little did Lorelai know that Kitty had acquired all the worst parts of both adulterers even though she had only been exposed to one of them. She wore her father’s manipulative tendencies and her mother’s coquettish ways like a silk scarf, and naturally, it horrified her mother. There were no heart to heart conversations about boys, makeup, and school to be had between the two of them. From Lorelai’s affair spawned an even more dangerous entity than she hadn’t anticipated. Kitty was her mother’s most grand mistake, and seeing her face reminded her of that everyday.

When Kitty entered the ninth grade, Lorelai remarried. “This is the one,” she said, “This is the one we need.” Kitty broke out in a fit of laughter, causing her mother’s smile to melt into a scowl. There had never been a ‘we’ between them, only you and I like two spiders in a mason jar. This marriage was what Lorelai needed, not Kitty. It was just as sudden and ridiculous as her affair with Kitty’s father, and it showed that Kitty’s mother learned nothing from her past choices. Paul Edwards was everything that Lorelai had been looking for in a man; Tall, single and a bank account that would take years to empty. It wasn’t love that reflected in Lorelai’s green eyes, but twin dollar signs that grew larger by the day. Kitty hated the man with his toothy smile and the way he tried to insert himself into their already shattered dynamic. Within a blink of an eye, their little two bedroom house in Midtown turned into a four bedroom home in Villas Adobes. Kitty tolerated him largely due to the money he would give her in an attempt to buy her love. It turns out that love in the Edwards house looked a lot like diamond earrings. Paul and Lorelai’s whirlwind relationship led to another pregnancy, and finally Lorelai got it right. Now, she had the well-off husband and baby boy that she had been wanting for so long. The only problem was that there was little room for a Briar in the Edwards household.

Lorelai got her happily ever after, but Kitty still only knew half of herself. She once thought that she would drown in all of her questions about her father, but she started to ask less and less as she grew older. She could hear her mother’s words ringing in her ears, “You can’t miss something you never had, Kitty”. So, she took her mother’s words in stride and put him out of her mind. Much of Kitty’s adolescence was spent sneaking out of her house at night and sneaking back in just before the sun came up. Truthfully, all she had to do was walk right out of the front door since her mother and stepfather were so focused on themselves and her darling little brother, Wesley, to care about what Kitty was up to. It was then that Kitty discovered that she could get away with almost anything when her mother and stepfather’s eyes were permanently focused elsewhere.

It didn’t take long for her to meet other girls who were just as reckless as she was and would rather be anywhere  else than stuck at home. They weren’t nice girls, and neither was she for that matter, but perpetual boredom was the common ground each of them could bond over. And so The five were formed, all daughters of difficult parents, constantly hungry for more of everything. They became her home away from home as they traveled the streets at night, leaving boys and girl alike spellbound with a single touch. Together, they chewed away at the town like powdery pink bubblegum and spat it back out through red lacquered lips. No party worth attending in little o’l Boothill was complete without Pretty Kitty and her circle of devils to get it started. Sunny afternoons were spent secretly chugging expensive bottles of champagne from her stepfather’s gilded cabinets while her more adventurous friends dabbled in little baggies of snow-white powder. Kitty, of course, sampled the drugs here and there whenever she really wanted to escape the made up paradise that her mother was trying to maintain.

It was only when Kitty graduated that she realized just how aimless she truly was. There were no bold dreams of leaving Boothill and going to college or becoming more than she already was. Sure, Boothill was about as exciting as watching paint dry but it was home. A regular C- student, she hadn’t given her studies any real attention. “Katherine has so much potential, Mrs. Edwards,” her teachers would say and her mother would proceed with feigning interest in her daughters education. “but she just doesn’t push herself. We’re worried that she isn’t being challenged enough”. Kitty did enough to get by and that’s how she liked it. Chances to sneak out with her friends to go to some party always took precedence over her studies, and neither her mother nor her stepfather bothered to hassle her about it. They did, however force her to start working. “You have to find something, Kitty. You don’t expect to live off of Paul for the rest of your life, do you?” Would bleeding Paul dry of his money truly be a bad thing? Wasn’t that exactly her what her mother was doing anyway? Nevertheless, the weekly allowances ended almost immediately and she found an open position at The Painted Sky Boutique. She’d spent almost all of her allowance there every week that it was only right that she fill out an application.

Four years after her graduation and much of Kitty’s life is still the same. Same circle of girls armed with fangs too sharp for human skin, same oblivious, perpetually uninvolved mother and stepfather, and the same wasted potential. Every paycheck earned from the boutique is still being used to fund her booze and drug filled weekends with the exception of a few dollars saved here and there to finally move out of her stepfather’s house. Whenever she passes her old teachers on the street or when they come into the boutique, they always give her that watered down look of disappointment. “Don’t give up hope, Katherine. This won’t always be your life.” She only smirks. It’s not the ideal life, but it’s hers. She has no use for their pity because she is not their failure, and she is not her mother’s mistake.

Utoya island shooting victims

June 22, 2011 in Norway, there were two consecutive terrorist attacks in the city of Oslo. The first attack was a car bomb explosion in Oslo within Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Norway, at 15:25. The explosion killed eight people and injured at least 209 people, twelve severely. The second attack occurred less than two hours later at a summer camp on the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Buskerud. The camp was organized by the AUF, the youth division of the ruling Norwegian Labour Party. The shooter opened fire at the participants, killing 69 and injuring at least 110 people.

- Birgitte was so insanely good at singing and playing guitar. She taught me "Butterfly" on guitar. The first time she sang to me, I got some goodies because it was so beautiful. She was always very positive, honest and tough.

Women’s History Month: Holly Hovis

March is Women’s History Month, and throughout the month, we’ll be highlighting some notable women in BLM. Every day, the women of the Bureau of Land Management help the agency make history and fulfill our multiple-use mission.

The smell of sagebrush, the rustle of wild grasses, a buzzing of hummingbird wings, and the brilliant yellow of rabbitbrush flowers covered in butterflies—all are sights and sounds that southwest Idaho students can enjoy through their schools' native gardens, thanks in large part to a partnership with the BLM.

BLM Idaho Bruneau Field Office Botanist Holly Hovis is leading efforts to bring native plant gardens—with all of their ecological, economic, and educational values—to school districts in Boise and throughout southwest Idaho.

"It is rewarding to help raise students' awareness to the natural world around them," says Hovis. "We hope that these native plant gardens grow an appreciation for the complex natural resources we have on the public lands."

Schools in southwest Idaho have been making room for native plant gardens as a way to enhance traditional classroom learning and to provide hands-on experiences for their students. The gardens also provide an economic benefit by reducing watering costs associated with non-native lawn grasses.

Holly started this work at the Boise District Office by first converting an existing native area to an ethnobotany garden highlighting traditional uses of native plants in southwest Idaho. With increased management attention to sage-grouse, she developed a second garden and interpretive materials to demonstrate habitat requirements of sage-grouse. Over the years, these two gardens at the Boise District have served as locations for many BLM educational programs ranging from school-age children to adult continuing education programs.

After managing a modest native garden on the grounds of the Boise District Office, in 2010 Holly reached out and formed a partnership with the local U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service office, Idaho Botanical Garden, and Idaho Native Plant Society to create an educational native plant garden at Roosevelt Elementary School in Boise. The project included outdoor classroom space, a kiosk, weather station, metal sculpture, and native bee houses.

Holly's native garden work has since expanded to urban and rural schools throughout the region, including Bruneau Elementary School and Rimrock High School located in rural Owyhee County. This expansion has helped BLM to develop positive relationships with many families who rely on public lands for livestock grazing, recreation, and other uses.  

Holly and Kristin Lohr from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are also partnering with local libraries to develop native gardens that will be incorporated into library nature and gardening programs.

In October 2017, Boise's Hawthorne Elementary School was the latest school to celebrate the opening of their native garden. Holly, along with the school's volunteer Garden Coordinator Amy Pence-Brown, worked over two years to make the plan a reality.

"Hawthorne Elementary is the perfect place for an urban/school garden," says Pence-Brown, who is also a parent at Hawthorne Elementary. "Building this garden and expanding our outdoor educational opportunities brings together our students, parents and neighborhood community members by providing projects that beautify the school and help us further appreciate our native environment."

The garden is part of Boise's Neighborhood Investment Program for the Vista Neighborhood and doubles as a local park and gathering place. The garden is extensive and includes a pollinator garden, artist garden, sensory garden, student experimental garden and teacher's relaxation space.

"With Holly's expert guidance, we knew this garden would be an instant success—it's been great," says Pence-Brown.

In addition to working with eight schools and two libraries in the area, Holly is part of a collaborative effort to publish a Native Garden Guide for southwest Idaho. The guide, which will be available in July, was created to help everyone from backyard gardeners to urban planners turn their landscapes into native gardens, including partnership building, grant writing, and project planning.

"I'm very passionate about native gardens as learning environments," says Hovis. "There is so much school kids can learn about native plants in these settings that can be applied to the wild world around them."
