Kamen Rider Geats - Theory.
I don’t think Kousei Kurama actually wished for a replacement daughter but rather for reality to be rewritten where the reality where Akari Kurama perished in that hostage situation was overwritten with the reality where she was saved.
However, despite that reality being overwritten, Kousei still couldn’t cope with his grief, loss, and guilt for that situation in fact, to him, no one could replace Akari despite that reality no longer existing, hence his treatment with his daughter -Neon.
Now for the name change, I think “Neon” is his English-based term of endearment for his daughter and when he wished for “the world where his ideal daughter, Neon (his term of endearment) is alive”. I think he defaulted to his term of endearment for his daughter when he wrote that wish.
That also in turn created a distinction between Neon and Akari, which doesn’t help his process his grief. He managed to enter and get a bargain with the DGP wish, but he still remembers how his Akari, his daughter died.
IDK about you, but I haven’t been able to engage in this much theorizing in other toku shows with this much thought being put into it.

wasn't Kousei's original wish that resulted in Neon's creation "for the ideal daughter", or something along those lines?
that's really come around again now, because she's LITERALLY too good for this world

On April 1, 2012, Akari Kurama died on her eighth birthday in a botched kidnapping, causing her parents to fall in a deep state of mourning and depression, to the point that her father Kousei made a wish to the Goddess of Creation to make a replacement for her, Neon, with him as the only person remembering his first daughter, unable to give Neon the love she deserved, sparking her motivation throughout the story.
Eleven years later, Neon would learn of her origins, causing her to fall into a deep depression and existential crisis, believing she didn't deserve to exist since she was created artificially and as a replacement for Akari.
Akari's death was the driving force in all of Kousei's actions, which in turn led to Neon's growth as a character. It wasn't until he accepted her death and admitted to himself and Neon how much he cared for her that both his and Neon's character arcs concluded, culminating in Neon gaining her final form Naago Fantasy.
Oh, also both Neon and Kousei saw her ghost a bunch.
"haunting the narrative" is one of those phrases i wanna put up on a shelf. not all characters that are dead haunt the narrative. not all characters that are dead haunt the narrative. not all characters that haunt the narrative are dead.

Unfortunately this episode is exactly what I wanted for Neon and her family. Bc her parents loved her in their own twisted way but it wasn’t genuine. It was fear and loss turned to control. Neon is a good person in spite of her abusive parents.
They know they fucked up but why dwell when you can move forwards? It’s the dwelling and the grief that causes 90% of conflicts in Geats. Instead, they realize they were horrible in ways they can’t take back, and they realize they still love Neon, and they decide to CHANGE. If Kousei had asked just a day before to become a Rider, his intent would still have been the power he clings to. Now, it’s not. It is truly and genuinely about Neon’s happiness.
All season, he’s been told that if he just showed Neon genuine love, she wouldn’t have to put her life on the line. So now he’s putting his own life on the line for her, and his wish for Neon managed to impact Ace enough to create Fantasy. The perfect buckle for Neon, who can move forwards, herself. Because it grows with her desires and she has many.
And for Neon she is not who she was. She is strong and sure in her place, if still guilty for things beyond her control. I can’t wait to see the conclusion of the Kurama Family’s story. I doubt we’ll ever get such a complex story for our female lead again. At least not one I love as much as this

kousei has never recovered from the loss of akari. he knows something no one else does and this burden is heavy. and yet he refuses to forget–to let his wounds be healed by the bandaid that’s neon because of his fear of forgetting the time he spent with akari and the love he felt. it’s so raw and painful because he loved akari so much that he didn’t ever want these memories of hers to be forgotten.
he tells himself that neon is a tool for a new road in the future of the kurama corporation, yet the truth is that neon had a place in his heart, whether he realized it or not. neon was as much as his daughter as akari was and those 11 years were something.
without him realizing it, neon had learned so much more than he had, growing to fight for her desire and to relearn what it means to love.
and it’s a pivotal moment to see, not just neon’s father, but her mother as well, realize that neon was so much to them. she was their daughter first and foremost and an individual they loved deeply, not an item, not a doll, but someone they should have spent those 11 years loving her like a parent should have.
Tumblr media
neon has changed them, and for kousei, it becomes his strength to move forward. he strives to learn from neon, grasping at the power, even knowing the dangers, to protect his daughter because neon is his daughter and he doesn’t want to lose her (like he did with akari).
and it’s even more meaningful because kousei knows the dangers of the dgp. he’s watched people fall and perish with a distant look, simply because they weren’t lucky enough, and yet for his daughter, he’ll join the dgp (albeit ace’s) to protect his daughter and fight despite all the odds.

Kousei: She’s doing her hair so she can be the “prettiest girl at the party”.

Someone just had to remind me of the godawful redemption the Big Bad of Miraculous Ladybug had. Goddammit, it certainly blows away the awful redemption arcs Gya-go and Irumi...

I think the most important characters to explain what Geats means about a world where all is happy are… Ginpen and Gyago.
Ginpen shows up and he says his son has an incurable disease. The end of the Ep reveals said “disease” as a simple case of expensive surgery. The disease was capitalistic greed. The solution was a simple donation. Kousei is an irredeemable rich man who chose to create a tool to abuse instead of reviving the daughter that he claimed to love. Kousei is also a human person who couldn’t bear to live with the guilt of failing his daughter but still deep down wanted a daughter to care for, so he made the worst possible call and didn’t come to terms with the ways he failed both of his beloved daughters until he almost loses Neon in the same way he lost Akari. And still, he was granted his wish and happiness upon realizing his mistakes and deciding to do better, as a man and a father.
In Geats, happiness is not representative of a cure all. Ace could create a perfect world, where there is no war, no illness, no debt. Whatever he wants is possible.
He chose a world of freedom. A world where people can FIND happiness, and in doing so they find love, and they reach out to others, and sure, it’s not perfect, but it gives everyone a CHOICE and a CHANCE.
The DGP promised miracles to a select few. Ace chose a world of human potential for good and love.
