Elven Wedding Headcanons
The marriers wear dark blue while the guests wear yellow/gold
Only nobility can legally marry people
The rings go in their pointer fingers and normally have a jewel the color of the person’s partner’s eyes and an inscription on it
The marriers wear veils connected to circlets over their faces until they are officially considered married when they take them off
The veil circlets are often passed down through families and it’s a common way of the parents accepting the marriage for them to give their family’s one to their child’s partner
The marriers are walked from the sides in front of the guests by one, maybe two, honor attendants.
It’s considered bad luck for either marriers to see each other the day of the wedding and often stay in two different sets of rooms in the opposite sides of the house/castle
Weddings celebrations can often take weeks before the actual ceremony

fitz gave sophie cognate rings as a way to show that he deeply cares about her. in a universe where fitz and keefe rebuild the bridges they burned, it’s probable that at some point keefe would admit that the cognate rings make him a bit jealous, but try to brush it off immediately afterward. not long after, fitz would pull keefe aside at some point and give him a promise ring as a way to show that he values keefe just as much as he values sophie. the problem is that keefe is incredibly confused as to whether or not he and fitz are just friends or fiances or somewhere in between-

got around to reading your secret santa fic and i think it permanently changed my brain chemistry
I saw your comment!! I haven't responded to it because it's january 1st and that means it's Twilight Time, but I loved your reaction and will admit. I was very curious to see what you thought because I associate tiertice with you a fair amount
I'm so glad someone else pointed out the Tiergan obliviousness because I kept laughing when I wrote those moments. Tiergan's like I don't know what's going on between us when they're in gay love and raising four children. you're dreaming about each other, sir. they're so scrunkly !!
and then the kids!! i may have a bit of a fondness for found sibling relationships and there is just. SO much opportunity in the solreef family. they all have such strong personalities that you wouldn't think would mesh, but they do. the Linh and Rayni comparison was one of my favorites, the way they're both right. Rayni made the decision that saved her, but so did Linh. Even if it put them on opposite sides for a while. The acknowledgement of circumstance and luck. And then Wylie and Tam with the more established camaraderie that's got the unspoken question in it. It's easy to care about each other but still just as intense and I. Adore it. I am partial to Tam but still
thank you for the compliments and for reading, I am. very glad the fic has been well received because I am aro and not really interested in romance. so writing something pretty romantic and with a proposal--I know there was more to the fic and that marriage isn't inherently romantic, but it was romantic in this case--was a little nerve wracking. not something I'd usually write, but there's also a lot more going on so there's a nice mix :)

I’ve been thinking about Elven marriages lately. Does anyone have any headcannons about how they work for me to play around with? More specific question, what color do you think elves commonly wear at weddings?

kotlc, but with soulmates?
Everyone has a soulmate. Everyone.
Grady and Edaline found each other easily enough. That was that. They married, fell in love, and nothing bad happened.
Della and Alden found each other just before they thought that they weren't going to. Just as Alden was about to marry Alina. Their hasty marriage was for love, definitely not for the reason everyone else thinks, but doesn't say.
Kesler and Juline aren't soulmates, but they love each other anyway. Juline met her soulmate once, and he wasn't that great.
To become a Councilor, one must forsake their soulmate bond. Those who do are lauded - but only if it is to become a councilor. Never mind those they leave behind, of who are met with disappointment. (Their soulmate was a councilor becomes a code for aro and ace people, along with people who don't want to get married)
Gisela was especially... excited to find that her soulmate is an empath. Of all things, the best for her plans (Cassius married her for naught but that she was his soulmate)
Mai has always, deep down in her heart, known that she and Quan were an example of how soulmates don't always end up well.
Fitz doesn't know his soulmate yet, but Sophie and him thought they were each other's. It hurts more than you can imagine when Sophie informs him she doesn't have a soulmate bond at all.
Brant and Jolie were soulmates, but that changed nothing.
Stina's parents weren't, but they faked it anyway. Somehow, they got away with it. As a result, she is one of soulmate's biggest supporters.
Tam doesn't want a soulmate, but...
Everyone has soulmates. Everyone. (the pain of that statement stings Sophie in more ways than one)

kotlc head-cannons (I need to stop)
Warning: a lot about the war with Neverseen. Talk about death and dealing with trauma
Dex starts helping Elwin deal with all the war injuries. He absolutely hates it but desperately looks for anything that makes him “useful”/“valuable” to the group. Sometimes he thinks about his technology mistakes and thinks being a technopath isn’t enough. He’s got the alchemy experience which makes it an easy transition but hates the blood and pain that’s needed to heal.
The experiments Keefe was put through affect him more. For a while, he doesn’t talk at all. Slowly, he starts speaking freely but never again brings his voice above a whisper. As if the volume makes any difference.
So, Sophie gets louder. She tells dumb jokes in hopes that he’ll join in or at least start laughing. It makes her louder about facing the Neverseen, about calling out the discrimination in the elven world.
Biana picks up a sword (or daggers). She’s always been strongest when it comes to tackle bramble, knowing exactly how to knock down her opponents. Woltzer laughs when she asks him to start training her for more than just defense. She turns to Ro, the first person to treat as more than a delicate princess. She becomes an expert, desperately wanting to protect her friends/family.
She learns to take pride in her scars. Even the new ones.
She should have killed Vespera. The scene mirrors the first time they fought, the one that left her with the scars. Vespera and Biana are away from the others, in a rush to protect herself she slashes out with her knife. After all her training, the single slash hits its mark killing Vespera. She didn’t mean to, she swears. She was only protecting herself. Her first kill nearly breaks her, the rest come a bit easier.
Sophie expertly meets with the leaders of all intelligent species. They all enjoy having the Moonlark herself on their side. She becomes the face of the war, the leader. It breaks her heart to make the tragic decisions that come along with it.
Biana becoming her war general.
Somewhere in the books it hints at Sophie, Keefe, Fitz, Biana, and Dex taking over the Black Swan Collective. When it happens, nobody trusts Keefe enough (not even himself) so the position goes to Wylie.
Biana signs up for matchmaking and cries when Dex’s name isn’t on it. Even though she knew he never signed up.
Dex really makes Biana laugh. They tell stupid jokes and can talk about nothing for hours.
They recreate the entire matchmaking system (with the help of Marella, Linh, and Tam).
Biana “Bad Match” Vacker becomes the largest scandal. Even though she’s still too young to even think about marriage and there is an entire war going on. Dex offers to sign up for matchmaking but Biana won’t let him, knowing how much the matchmaking system affected his life.
Biana fell first (choosing Dex who has felt like he was the second choice his entire life) but Dex fell harder (loving Biana who was always chosen by others but for her fame and never for her personality).
It breaks Fitz’s heart to watch his sister choose love over her legacy. Right after he destroyed any chance with Sophie for the same reasons. He really did love her.
Years after the war, after matchmaking was fixed and prejudices were destroyed, Fitz still can’t bring himself to stop being the “golden child.” He becomes a councilor.
Principle Keefe Foster
All of them having to deal with the tragedies of war.
Dex has panic attacks.
Biana hates to sleep alone. She calls for sleepovers all the time. Everyone hated them until they started to realize why. At home she makes Fitz sleep on her floor. At Black Swam hide outs Iggy is her pet more than Sophie’s. On the worst nights she sneaks into other people’s (usually Dex or Sophie) rooms. It’s against the rules so Forkle pretends not to know.
Linh cries all the time and Tam can’t force himself to.
Sometimes Sophie forgets she’s dealing with real people. She makes ruthless decisions until someone takes time to sit down and remind her that everyone’s human.
Including herself, who she forgets to take care of.
Too many emotions make Keefe dizzy. When tragedy strikes, he locks himself in his room until he can calm down. Sometimes spends days in there.
Sometimes it happens for happy feelings too. He celebrates winning the war away from the rest. Eventually Sophie sits outside his door and they celebrate with the wood between them.
Give! Dex! A! Gun! He hates the power it holds and vows to never touch one again. But he did what he had to in order to protect those he loves.
When Marella falls for Linh, she refuses to be quiet about it. Even with the discrimination. She tells Linh all the time that’s she’s amazing and absolutely mesmerizing. She keeps saying these things until Linh learns to love herself. Eventually forgetting her fears and admitting that she’s in love with Marella.
Elwin adopts Keefe after the war, even though he’s old enough that he doesn’t need a guardian. They have family game nights and weekly dinners.
Linh is taller than Tam.

KotLC OC tournament info post - 18/24
Ariadne Varil
Tumblr media
Name: Ariadne Varil
Species: Elf
Gender/Pronouns: she/her
Creator: Swan @an-ungraceful-swan
Short desc: Ariadne is a former/partially retired Council informant who grew up as part of the nobility. After going to exillium on an assignment as a coach she fell for an actual coach. Ensue a messy breakup as her intentions are revealed which she’s still not over
Backstory: Ariadne Varil was born into a lower noble family, as the middle of her siblings, never quite old enough to run with her older sister’s friends, most of whom were in the elite levels by the time she started tutoring, and too reserved to ever really fall in with her brother’s friends, all of whom were menaces in their own right, despite being only a year younger than her. She manifested quite young as a flasher, though never had much talent in her ability and excelled more in her other classes and areas of study. Her father was a low ranking regent, but his meager connections were enough to get her an internship type job going into the elite levels, working under the then Emissary Clarette.
As her education became more focused, she took more classes focused on politics and history, and had quite an affinity for seeing through the glitz and glamor in the upper echelons of the elven world and being able to analyze what it was and understand people’s positions. When she graduated she officially became an assistant to an older Emissary, one who’d long since established himself at the crux of Elven politics, though continued discrete communication and under the table work for Clarrette. She was never especially close with her family, and moved to an apartment in Atlantis nearly immediately after graduating. Her matching was handled as a quiet affair, she simply got her list, sat down for dinner with the eligible suitors, and talked it through with them. She never saw it as anything other than a necessary part of maintaining her status among the nobility and blending into the masses, and made that fact quite clear to her potential spouses. She eventually married her husband, though they continued living separately, leading their own lives and really only presenting as a couple when strictly necessary, especially for the first hundred years or so of their marriage. They each had their own aspirations and affiliations, and that was quite enough for them.
She was just over 200 years old when Clarette became a councillor, and she had been serving as a regent for some time. Her role got elevated to that of an Emissary and she was trusted with her first more important project than simply passing along the little whispers she could scrounge up. Without any official ways to keep track of elves that had either left or been banished from larger society, she went simply to gather information in one of the larger communities, posing as someone who had become disillusioned with the Lost Cities and couldn’t “stay in their crystal palaces” anymore. The plan had been to stay for a century, long enough to engrain herself and pass along valuable information, but it got cut short when her cover was blown less than halfway through her assignment. She managed to get out and return home, but not before picking up some rather obvious scarring. Ariadne moved in with her husband for the first extended period of time, and took quite a bit of time to herself, recuperating on her new estate that she’d been absent from up until that point. She was a bit conflicted, after all despite her unfortunate parting spending time away from the Lost Cities had been eye opening to her and it was odd being back without anyone to really talk about what she’d seen. It’s why when she was presented with the opportunity to work on another longer term mission, this time based in Exilium, she agreed, becoming one of the coaches of the program. There she met fellow Coach Nikola, and took an immediate liking to her for how genuine she seemed. It was refreshing after her time spent back in elven upper society, and rarely did Niko ever mince her words or hide what she was feeling. Ariadne’s job at Exillium was simple, be eyes to report back anything that might be happening among the students and fit in as a coach, but growing closer to Niko she saw just how much the other coach cared about the kids, even if the culture of the program dissuaded her from showing it. Seeing someone with such passion for carving their own path against the grain, trying against all odds to do good, when Ari had simply been skating along and following orders her whole life, dealing with information she was rather detached from, it was a change, and a bit of a wake up call. She wasn’t really all that surprised as she developed feelings, she’d had feelings for colleagues and acquaintances before, but her marriage for the match and duty to her job had always prevented her from doing much more than acknowledging them. Here, under a name that wasn’t quite hers, with someone quite interested in holding her accountable, she had no such obligations, and fell into a relationship of sorts, even partially moving into Niko’s apartment after some time had passed.
Of course all things come to an end, and some of the students at Exilium had been not so discreetly planning some illegal activities as a way to get back to the council. It’d come to the coaches attention, and consensus lead by Niko was to let it diffuse naturally. Of course the kids were bound to be angry, but they were all talk and needed a place to vent their righteous frustration. Privately, Ariadne disagreed and after a bit of internal debate reported it up through her pipeline. It was dealt with by the proper authorities, resulting in punishments being meted out and the kids written off from most chances to rejoin the lost cities, but in the process Ariadne’s role in it was revealed and Nikola realized she had just been there as an informant and thus felt rightfully betrayed and angry. They had a singular blow up fight before Nikola resolved to icing Ariadne out, something that worked as Ariadne was back in the lost cities within the year. She now has whatever the elven spy equivalent of a desk job is, attending functions and keeping an ear to the ground, but otherwise has very little to do. Despite time having passed since, she’s quite conflicted about the whole thing, feeling just bad enough to have the seeds of discontent slowly sowed. Angsts about her estate, is rather dramatic with the whole situation and feels isolated at this point. She’s currently working as simply someone with her ear to the ground at galas and whatnot, the elven spy equivalent of a desk job, but is a bit resentful of the whole thing not quite sure how she feels about it all.

Hope you don’t mind my asking but I’ve been trying to puzzle this out with people in this fandom, but it’s easier with some people than other. Who is your favorite kotlc character?
Juline Dizznee, shes a badass mom who leads a rebel organization, she doesn't give a crap that people see her husband as genetically inferior and married him anyway, she was so infuriated with how her society treated her husband and her children that she joined a rebel organization to try and change it for them. sure she didn't tell her husband about her involvement for a decade but that was partly for his protection, also i love a woman with flaws, she loves her husband a lot thats also important to me they actually have a very loving marriage and its shown in cannon.
