Credits to Baek Sun-Woo for writing Doctor Slump & making sure that there wasn't a single part where there was a misunderstanding between the characters atleast during the initial ep, all of them talk maturely about their feelings
Every time, the characters have something to say they don't beat around the bush and say it directly leaving no space for any misunderstanding, which also helps in making the series less predictable

Doctor Slump

I liked this story. It was sweet and it reminds us that even when we feel like things can't get any worse, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Ha Neul and Jeong Woo learn to rely on each other and face the darkness together and with the help of the people that truly care about them.
I also liked Hong Ra's and Dae Yeong's story.

Daily Dose of Sunshine
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2023
Daily Dose of Sunshine (2023, South Korea)
Directors: Lee Jae Kyu & Kim Nam Su
Writers: Lee Nam Gyu, Oh Bo Hyun & Kim Da Hee (based on the webtoon by Lee Ra Ha)
Mini-review:
When I heard this drama was coming out, I got a bit worried, since k-dramas don't have the best track record when it comes to handling this topic. Thankfully, this show's team mostly pulled it off. Sure, it falls into stereotypes from time to time, but its focus is always on empathy, acceptance and tolerance. It really tries to make the viewer understand how hard and undeservedly misunderstood mental illnesses are. For better or worse, that also means the drama doesn't shy away from showing the darkest parts of these illnesses, so please be very careful if this topic is triggering for you, cause there are a lot of hard-to-watch scenes. In terms of acting, the entire cast is great, especially the actors playing the patients, and Park Bo Young. In fact, this might arguably be her career's crowning achievement. The one thing I didn't really like were the romantic parts. I just didn't care for any of the romances, and the show would've been better off without them. Anyway, Daily Dose of Sunshine surprised me by handling a complex topic in a much more humane and hopeful way that I expected.

Touch Your Heart / Reach of Sincerity (2019)
Tumblr media
I really liked this show. It was fun, quirky and cute with a few heavy moments to keep the show grounded. Not a headliner, but something you can put on and just hang out with for an hour or so and still enjoy.
What Worked
Yoo In-na carried the show. She was just a super cute ball of charm, and all the scenes with her and Lee Dong-wook (who not exactly grumpy, but definitely uptight) were great. This was the happy version of the same couple from Goblin, and I was there for it. The supporting cast was great as well, though only Oh Jung-se's performance was super memorable for me.
What Didn't Work
This show is not very realistic. Most of the time that works, but once in awhile a plot line or a scene will kind of fall flat. Also, I personally didn't like the Choi Yoon-hyuk / Dan Moon-hee pairing. The actors were fine on their own, but a bit too much together.
The Performances
Yoo In-na as Oh Jin-shim / Oh Yoon-seo, AKA "The Talent". Yoo In-na was so much fun to watch. She is just a really great comic actor who knows all about timing and has tons of charm.
Lee Dong-wook as Kwon Jung-rok, AKA "the Ace Attorney". It's funny how you can see him playing an angel of death in one series, and a straitlaced lawyer in another and they somehow end up being very similar characters. I still enjoyed watching him, especially when he was able to open up towards the end of the series, but the character felt very familiar to me after seeing Goblin.
Oh Jung-se as Yeon Joon-kyu, AKA "Fanboy CEO". I liked Oh Jung-se in this. His character was talking, extremely petty, and very funny. May favorite role for him since maybe IOK2NBOK.
Lee Sang-woo as Kim Se-won, AKA "The Bestie". He was billed as the second lead, but this felt more like a supporting role. I enjoyed him when he was there, especially his banter with Lee Dong-wook's character and the whole arc for him, but I didn't miss him when he was off screen.
Son Seong-yoon as Yoo Yeo-reum, AKA "Bestie's Ex". I liked this character, but the show didn't do much with the character arc, overall. Nice, but not memorable.
Jang So-yeon as Yang Eun-ji, AKA "Office Mom". I enjoyed seeing this actor again after her much bigger role in Something in the Rain. I don't like the arc they gave her, but it didn't really detract from the show, just kind of went nowhere.
Park Ji-hwan as Lee Doo-seob, AKA "Secret Poet". I liked seeing this actor, after watching him in Our Blues. I really related to this character, but they didn't really do much with him (other than a small love arc). Another case where they had a really good actor in a quiet role.
Oh Eui-shik as Kong Hyuk-joon, AKA "the Manager". It was fun seeing this guy play off of the other characters, but he was mostly there for comic relief and sometimes moving the plot forward. Not super memorable.
Everyone Else. The rest of the office staff was good, but not memorable. The guy that played the stalker / chaebol crook (Jay Kim) did a good job, but I was kind of glad when they moved past that plot line. I didn't like the "Black Widow" murder plot, but the actors did okay with what they were given.
TL; DR:
A charming romp with two amazing leads, and a good cast of supporting actors that didn't get much attention. But the fireworks from the leads were more than enough to carry the show.

Samsung Asset Mgt. to List BTC Futures ETF on Hong Kong Stock Exch.
Samsung Asset Management (SAM) has reportedly received authorization to list its Bitcoin (BTC) Futures Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE). Scheduled for trading debut on January 13 with the ticker symbol FA SAMSUNG BTC, the Samsung Bitcoin Active ETF represents a significant development following the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission's (SFC) announcement to permit ETF providers to list futures contracts for retail investors.
The Samsung ETF will invest in Bitcoin futures products listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), including both CME Bitcoin futures and micro-Bitcoin futures contracts. This move opens up investment opportunities for retail investors to access Bitcoin ETFs in smaller contract units with margins.
Park Seong-jin, Head of Samsung Asset Management, expressed that the Samsung Bitcoin ETF provides a competitive investment option for those interested in Bitcoin.
Prior to this, Samsung Asset Management listed the Global blockchain industry ETF and Asia Pacific Metaverse ETF for trading on the HKSE market. Meanwhile, CSOP Asset Management debuted its Bitcoin Futures ETF in December, with notable trading volume recorded in January. Samsung Asset Management's extensive experience and substantial assets under management position it as a significant player in the ETF market, both domestically and internationally.

observation based on your fics: complex child/parent relationships fascinate you and you are drawn to them in fiction
Yep, that's definitely a recurring thing for me. I can't say I expected a lot of excuses to explore those in Soul Calibur. Not to get too personal, but it isn't lost on me that estranged parents tend to end up in my writing somehow.
I'm reminded of where I started with The Harlot and Her Son, piecing together what little details canon gives about Siegfried's mother. If it wasn't horrible enough that her only child had unwittingly made her a widow, could she even imagine that he was also Nightmare? Given that they reunited after the events of SC4, I like to think that they reconciled in some way before she died, but writing that is the hard part, to put it mildly.
On another note, there's more about Kong Xiuqiang than I've been able to touch on in The Wandering Master. It had occurred to me that his memories of Xianglian would have to stop at when she's two, by which point he's already left Ling-Sheng Su without knowing he had a second daughter on the way. By the time he meets Seong Mi-na, he has no way of knowing what happened to Xianglian (or, indeed, everyone else at the temple) nor that Xianghua has the sword he gave to her mother sixteen years ago. It all compels me...

Reports from South Korea-based Yonhap News Agency have revealed that Upbit, one of the largest crypto exchanges in South Korea experienced over 159,000 hacking attempts in the first half of 2023 alone. Upbit’s Hacking Attempts According to the data from Upbit’s parent company Dunamu shared with the local news agency, the hacking attempts of the first half of 2023 indicate a 117% increase compared to the first half of 2022, and a 1,800% increase in hacking attempts compared to the second half of 2020. The crypto exchange recorded 8,356 hack attempts in the second half of 2020, 34,687 in the first half of 2021, 63,912 in the second half of 2021, 73,249 in the first half of 2022, and 73,249 in the second half of 2022. These hack attempts have increased over the years after the crypto exchange suffered a hack of 58 billion won ($50 million) in 2019. The exchange has since successfully fortified its security measures to prevent these hacks, and the exchange has not experienced any exploit since 2019. “After the hacking incident in 2019, we took various measures to prevent a recurrence, such as distributing hot wallets and operating them, and to date, not a single cyber breach has occurred,” a Dunamu Official stated. Some of these measures included an increased percentage of money retained in cold wallets by 70%. Hot wallets, which keep keys online and are more susceptible to breaches, are thought to be less secure than cold wallets, which store private keys offline. This is because the majority of known cryptocurrency exchange hacking instances have occurred in hot wallets, especially the crypto hacks that occurred in September. One such example is Hong Kong-based CoinEx which suffered a $70 million hack in September 2023, and Mixin Network which suffered a $200 million hack, among others. Total market cap sitting at $1.05 trillion | Source: Crypto Total Market Cap on Tradingview.com Due to the significant increase in cryptocurrency hack attempts in South Korea, the country’s Representative Park Seong-jung has called upon the South Korean government to take considerable measures to handle the issue. “The Ministry of Science and Technology must conduct large-scale whitewashing mock tests and investigate information security conditions in preparation for cyber attacks against virtual asset exchanges where hacking attempts are frequent,” Representative Park said. Upbit recently experienced an issue in late September 2023, where the crypto exchange was unable to identify a fake token, “ClaimAPTGift.com, present in 400,000 Aptos wallets. This led to the suspension of Aptos token services. Compilation Of Crypto Funds Stolen In September September 2023, was a nightmare for certain crypto exchanges as about $332 million in crypto assets were stolen from certain crypto exchanges in September alone. Blockchain security firm Certik took to their official X handle in late September to share the compilation of the crypto hacks that occurred in the month alone and how much was stolen from these incidents. The stolen funds accounted for exploits, exit scams, and flash attacks. However, exploits accounted for the most, with over 98% ($329.8 million) of the total amount stolen in that month, while exit scams and flash attacks accounted for the rest.
