Is there a reason why Sasaki Kojiro’s real name is Tsuda? You know, like the Meaningful Name trope.

I don't think so. The opposite, even. It's a generic surname for a nobody.

But also Kojirou who is both a reference to famed mythical swordsman Sasaki Kojirou and his Reverse Swallow Technique, a man who may or may not have existed, and his famous duel with Miyamoto Musashi, who used dual blades and had an X shaped block with his Nitenryu style

Oh sorry, I meant fake Assassin. Specifically about how he's not even technically real and instead a stand in for someone that probably didn't exist. Is that normally possible or was that because the fuyuki grail was tainted? And why was it that he was summoned by caster specifically? Thanks again

"normally impossible" is always a classic in fate. im not completely sure without rereading but i think it was that what makes him a weird outlier wasn't even necessarily the shakiness of sasaki kojirou's existence in history (mythological and fictional characters were already established as servant candidates and the figure of sasaki kojirou would qualify for that moniker regardless of whether he actually existed), it's that he's a servant without a noble phantasm.

it's technically because the grail was tainted but in a bit of a roundabout way, because the grail being tainted is what allowed for the summoning of anti-heroes, which lead to summoning someone like caster who would try to hijack the system and summon her own servant, which leads to her summoning someone incompletely qualified to be a servant (for lack of a noble phantasm) because she's incompletely qualified to be a master (for lack of a physical body). it's specifically him because it's a bootleg ritual that ended up using the surrounding area as catalyst, and this particular iteration of kojirou just happened to visit it in his life.

it's also sasaki kojirou because they needed a character to highlight the way the people in saber's life didn't care that she wasn't even a man as long as she adequately performed the actions expected of "king arthur" and the irl confusing and contradictory records regarding sasaki kojirou's life and existence make him a good fit for that job in the story, which is how they ended up at "anyone who masters the tsubame gaeshi becomes eligible to be summoned as sasaki kojirou even if the individual's lived experience doesn't match the records"
