5.) My second attempt, first successful one, at making a sweater/jumper of the Tower Bridge in London, after previously failing several months earlier. And this was not my last. I loved the design so much, I made another a year later. Inspiration came from a magazine photo. This picture came from my visit in 2014. Images have been taken to make this a T-shirt someday, and my other tower bridge sweater already comes as one. #sambarsky #sambarskysweaters #sambarskyknitter #knit #knitting #knitter #art #artist #sweater #intarsia #handknit #london #londonbridge #towerbridge #unitedkingdom #unitedkingdom🇬🇧 #england #england🇬🇧#thames #thamesriver

In my previous post, I talked about the stacked stitch technique and said the idea came from warp knit textiles. I promised to tell you more about these knits so here's some info.
Tumblr media
The terms warp and weft come from weaving where they are used to describe vertical and horizontal threads respectively (image 2). As hand knitters, we don't generally use these words in relation to our craft, but they correspond to the 2 primary methods of knit fabric production. In hand knitting and on home machines, yarns travel back and forth across each row horizontally (image 3). This is also called weft knitting.
Tumblr media
Warp knitting is a process where yarn travels vertically as the fabric is created (image 4). We, as hobbyists, rarely use this term because it is very tedious to do by hand requiring a knitting loom or a lot of patience. Each needle has its own spool of thread and the width of the fabric is essentially determined by the number of bobbins/spools used. Imagine intarsia, but each color is just one stitch wide. Each thread must constantly zigzag from needle to needle in order to create a sheet of fabric and not a series of disconnected crochet chains. This lateral movement is referred to as "shogging." Threads swing to the front of the needle (overlap) and move one unit to the side then swing behind each needle (underlap) and and move to the side one or more spaces.
Tumblr media
Warp knits are known for being sturdier with less elasticity and than weft knits. They can be very dense like stranded colorwork or contain extremely large holes. They do not run or ladder, if a yarn breaks, the fabric will slowly unravel and only a small hole will form.
Tumblr media
As in weft knitting, many different textures and colorwork effects can be created using only a few, basic stitches. Tulle, athletic mesh, and flame stitch (image 1) textiles are all manufactured using warp knitting machines.
The cover photo belongs to the @vamuseum and shows a silk shawl from c.1850. I made the illustrations from scratch and I'm very proud of them, please share them so lots of people see them.

National Treasure instagram: Knitting
Fandom: BBC’s Merlin (post-canon, modern magic) AU AU: National Treasure Series: National Treasure instagram
Even the Once and Future Kings can be talked into knitting.
———————————————————————————————
With winter looming on England, the Pendragonling needs warm clothes to survive the cold, or so dragonlord Merlin decrees. Through his social, then, he searches for some knitter to travel to New Camelot and knit little Aithusa some wool coats. The challenge is picked up and the willing hero also manages to convince Arthur to give knitting a try. Aithusa is definitely excited to see her dragon papa personally work to make her something.
More about the AU under the cut. (More fanworks from this AU at the links above)
———————————————————————————————
About the AU It's the 21th century and the existence of magic has been widely known since Guinevere, the last queen of Camelot, lifted the ban and had made Merlin her own advisor. With the centuries the myth of the Once and Future King has grown unchecked: Arthur Pendragon belongs to the category of the great people of history who the most have influenced the world, with the only difference that he will one day return. Magic, for a number of circumstances never verified (possibly a mix of abuse and industrialization), seems like having been drained, leaving only the passive one: charms applied to old houses or objects still works, but new charms cannot be cast and are ineffective. Immortality is a rare gift unavailable to most, but few people belonging to the world Before The Drain still live, the oldest of them born in the Late Renaissance age. Merlin, former wizard and oldest man of the world as the only one alive since the Middle Ages, is considered the world's grumpy uncle, that one parent who is a font of knowledge and tells funny stories about an otherwise serious topic like History but isn't willing to sit down and socialize with the youngsters (which means basically anyone, to him). Told to be always traveling, he imparts his knowledge almost exclusively through his blog, "Merlin's Cave". Unknown to all, though, Merlin has also a second identity under which he lives an almost ordinary life: Gaius de Bois, young professor of Medieval History at the University of Avalon, down-to-heart person, a professor much loved by his students, and, especially "nephew" of the Great Merlin. Arthur Pendragon emerges from the secluded Lake of Avalon and his return is made official by Merlin with a post on his Instagram, a photo about the two halves of a broken coin (with Merlin's and Arthur's profile) reunited. Arthur leads a quiet life, residing in Merlin's cottage on the shores of the lake, with his grumpy (not-so) former servant to protect him from meddlers and fanatics. To preserve and allocate the necessary resources to restore a conducive environment for him and his needs of Middle Ages man, he is given the title of National Treasure that grants him a monthly revenue, total coverage of expenditures and funds to restore the castle of Camelot – castle that Merlin has preserved by magically miniaturizing it and placing it in a snow-less globe. Merlin, through his social media and website, shares with the world the chronicles of how his king is adjusting to the modern times. Arthur is initially followed by paps and generally by the curiosity of the people: it's just Merlin's angry presence (and an endless stream of ordinances) that shelters Arthur from the frenzy although soon it becomes an ordinary sight to see the king going around wearing his armor and sunglasses. When Camelot is restored, it gets the status of Principality within the United Kingdom, a kind of enclave named New Camelot on which Arthur is granted absolute power: initially a city-state enclosed within the strong walls of the citadel, it grows when further lands and pastures are assigned to the principality to assure Camelot's self-sufficiency. Life in New Camelot, per Arthur's choice, doesn't reflect the innovations happened after the king's death, and the citadel will become a haven for people who wish to live a simpler life or simply unplug a bit from the modern times. With time Arthur will fully embrace the perks of modernity, thanks to Merlin (and his money) who spoils him, and he'll even get a driving license (against Merlin's will). But that's another story for another time.

Notes This manip was prompted by the picture released by Synnov Karlsen on her Instagram Story when they were in Italy to shoot I Medici back in 2018. A couple of days later, the manip was done. There was some text on the fake Instagram post that wasn't completed but the reason I was stuck was because I couldn't decide which version I liked the best between two backgrounds and few different effects/filters applied.
Released as per my goal to clear out my "held back" shit. I wanted to hold this back further but figured I should post it while it's still winter, given the winter subject.
———————————————————————————————
Tec stuffs (aka Behind The Manip) I recall not being completely satisfied with Aithusa but 1) there's literally two Aithusa pics, so a Merlin manipper must do with what little they've been given and 2) I still haven't learned to apply shadows.

Sister Cities: Night Vale (Welcome to Vermillion Falls)
A friendly desert community where the sun is bright, the stars have forsaken us, and the moon is a lie. Welcome to Night Vale.
Good evening, Vermillion Falls! Wow, it's been so long since I last spoke to all of you. I think it was... 2014? 2015, maybe? And I don't know when the last time before then would have been. What a wonderful time it is that we get to participate in this tradition once again. Well anyway, for those of you hearing me for the first time, my name is Cecil Gerswhin Palmer, and I am the community radio host of the beautiful town of Night Vale! In case you didn't know, we are your sister city! You'll never meet us, and we'll never meet you if you know what's good for you, but we are united nonetheless by the ties of family. And what could be stronger than that?
Speaking of family, Vermillion Falls, I'm sure you all remember the guy I was telling you about last time I was on the air - Carlos the Scientist. He is a beautiful man with beautiful hair and an oaky voice, who conducts scientific experiments in his lab by Big Rico's Pizza, and he is utterly perfect in every single imperfect way. The last time I spoke to you, Carlos was my boyfriend, and he had recently returned from being trapped in a desert otherworld. Well - then, Carlos and I have gotten *married*! Isn't that the most wonderful news? Isn't that the most fascinating piece of journalism ever to cross your ears? We had our ceremony on the 15th of December, in 2016, at -
Oh, hang on, Vermillion Falls. I've just been handed a press release by my newest intern, Safa. Safa, should I even be reading Night Vale news, if the people of my community aren't going to hear it? Oh well. I guess it can't hurt. More about my husband soon.
But first, a message from the Night Vale Interfaith Crochet Club and Political Activism Coalition. As many of you know, this group advocates for the recognition of crochet into popular culture, as both an artform and a really cool hobby. "We want everyone to know that regardless of what you believe in, we can all get behind making cool stuff out of yarn" said Robin, who is one of the coalition's organizers, and also a priest at the Temple of Hekate out in the sand wastes. "First, you chain to the desired length. Then, you either go back into the second loop from the hook, or you chain extra and yarn over. Then, you repeat your actions to make various stitches. It's great." The Night Vale Interfaith Crochet Club and Political Activism Coalition would like to invite you to their meetings. You can find them every other Wednesday night from 5:01 to 6:07:32, with locations announced every week on their Instagram page. Crochet materials and political pamphlets will be provided. When asked by a member of the press whether knitters would be welcome at the coalition's meetings, Robin hissed, then threw down zir skein of yarn, then vanished into a puff of vapor. So maybe don't attend the meetings if you like to knit.
This has been: a press release.
Okay, listeners, back to talking about my husband. So, Carlos and I had our ceremony on the 15th of December in 2016, and it's honestly hard to believe that that was almost seven years ago already. It feels like yesterday that my beautiful Carlos walked down the aisle towards me, his face all alight with the love we share as we wed in front of our entire town! And now, we have a beautiful baby boy who we adopted. Although I guess he isn't really a baby anymore, since he's about to turn six. Our sweet Esteban is the joy of our lives, and he takes so well after both his fathers. He started talking at eighteen months, but not in the usual baby-babble way. His first word was "I", followed by the words "desire destruction should follow in my wake, and also I would like another Gerber pouch, please." Carlos and I were so proud of him. How many children have a complete sentence at the same time as their first word? Do you know any children like that, Vermillion Falls? Of course not. My Esteban is a truly remarkable child, completely one of a kind. He loves giraffes and other animals, and he also loves to throw tantrums where he hurls his toys around the room and screams at the sky. When that happens, Carlos has to pick him up and rock him back and forth singing "Valjean's Soliloquy" from Les Miserables until he calms down. And it works every time. I'm so happy with my family. I was texting your radio host, Frank Luna, in our town voice group chat, and I sent him so many pictures of my husband. Like this one, where -
Ughhhh, another press release? Safa, I'm doing extremely important work here. I know this is only your first day, but usually press releases are supposed to be spaced out more, and I just did one! No, I totally did. Um, you might think I've been rambling about my family for a really long time, but time is subjective, and I am the station manager here. Okay, fine. Let's see what we've got.
The Night Vale Board of Education would like to announce an update to all their dictionaries. Effective immediately, they will be changing science curriculums to include "guilt" as a step in the scientific method. "Just take a moment to ponder what you're doing," said Director of Emergency Press Conferences Pamela Winchell, who wore a Jurassic Park Hoodie. "And think about whether it's really worth it, whatever 'it' is that you're about to do. Scientifically, I mean. This makes sense to me. Any questions? Yes, you with the clipboard." Several journalists with clipboards began speaking at the same time. "Leann with the clipboard," Pamela clarified. Leann asked her question, which was not picked up by the mics, but which Pamela helpfully repeated back verbatim. "Is our decision impacted by the recent works of Doctor J-" Here Pamela paused and made a face as if she had just bit into the sourest of lemons. "By Doctor Jan-" Pamela paused again and shakily took a sip of water. "I'm going to pretend you said by 'that woman' because that's more tolerable to me. Yes, it is. Anyone else? No? Alright, bye then." With that, Pamela hastily climbed into a car and drove away. Well, listeners, I must say, I completely agree with this decision. Mostly because I texted my husband to ask him what he thought, and he said he agrees too. So there you have it.
And now for traffic.
A car lies alone in a quiet ditch and the driver is still alive. On the back bumper, there is an array of colorful stickers, all pastel and candy-hued. One sticker says "Night Vale Community College Honor Student", a declaration of personal achievement that would be pretentious, were it not so admirable. There is a sticker that says "Save the Bees" and a sticker that says "Shop local" with a little cartoon farmer. There is a pride flag sticker, a nautical delta flag sticker, a sticker of the US flag on fire. The tires of the car are also on fire. Just the front ones. The left side door is dented inward, and already flowers are growing through the rust hole in the open passenger door. It squeaks on its hinges, still swaying, while dandelions and nightshade poke up through the metal. In the rearview mirror, lights twinkle red and blue. The pieces of metal scattered all around catch this light, and reflect it, dancing all over the quiet ditch and the empty road, a dazzling, shimmery display. A moth lands on the windshield, which resembles a disco ball, if disco balls were vaguely rectangular. The lights are getting closer now, and the moth flits away into the night. A car lies alone in a quiet ditch, and the driver is still alive.
This has been traffic.
Alright, so back to my family. Carlos, Esteban, and I live on Ourobourus Road, in the nicest house on our street. We have a backyard where Esteban plays on his jungle gym, and where we can walk our dog, Aubergine. Safa, what is it now? Oh, right. The weather. I guess I have extended the broadcast a little bit too much. Well, Vermillion Falls, let's go to the weather.
Welcome back, Vermillion Falls.
While we were in the weather, I asked my new intern, Safa, to go over the next few media reports to see if they could just kind of condense them down a little bit for me. I did go a little bit over the time limit, but can you blame me? I haven't talked to you all for years! I really wanted to give you updates about Carlos! Anyway, Safa was reading the reports while they poured themself a glass of water from the sink, but accidentally dropped them in. And when they reached to pick up the soggy papers, Safa's arm sank deep underwater. Much deeper than the half-inch of water pooled into the sink. Their entire body pitched forward, and Safa splashed into the sink. They tried to swim back up, to climb back out of the sink and into Night Vale, but instead, Safa resurfaced in the middle of a lake, in the town of Vermillion Falls!
I know this because Frank just texted our group chat. And according to him, no one who's entered Vermillion Falls through that lake has ever left. It's pretty difficult to find Night Vale, anyways, so it's safe to say that Safa will be there with you guys for a while. Perhaps indefinitely. So, please welcome Safa to your town! I'm sure they'll have a great time. At least, I hope so.
And to the family and loved ones of Intern Safa, they weren't that great of an intern, and they kept interrupting me, but they aren't technically dead, so I can speak as ill of them as I'd like. I'm sure they will call you soon. Just probably from a different time zone.
Alright, back to my broadcast about my husband. That's what this was supposed to be, after all, and I think it's fair enough that I can continue it without any more interruptions. So, settle in, Vermillion Falls! I have a lot to catch you up on. So anyway, Carlos's skin is beautiful and smooth, since he uses an incredible skincare routine made up of two toners and a revitalizing serum, and his cologne...
Broadcast continues for three hours.

REDISCOVERING HOW HOBBIES WORK 100 YEARS LATER GOTTA BE FUN
Arthur and art supplies that have become much more accessible and common!!! SOMEONE DEFINITELY GOT HIM ONE OF THOSE ART KITS FOR KIDS AND HE NEARLY CRIED WHEN THE MARKERS DIDN'T WORK UNTIL BESSIE, BLESS HER HEART, INFORMED HIM HE HAS TO PUT WATER IN THEM. You can't convince me that didn't happen xoxo
Javier and his guitar. The availability of different equipment in modern era. Straps, picks, RAINBOW STRINGS (proud owner of rainbow "training" strings here. i absolutely love them). ELECTRIC GUITARS. Even if he wouldn't like them a lot, he'd still marvel at how far guitars have come. That Hatsune Miku amp/effect unit/whatever that was i don't remember tbh. It ends up either with him or with Isaac.
Knitting!!!! Crocheting!!!! Someone definitely takes that up as a hobby!!!!!! and then cries at the cost of yarn. Curse of the love sweater is a thing they fear.
Gardening not for survival, but for fun. Like yeah we've talked abt plants before but definitely someone noticed those weird ass sets with small pots and different seeds in some dollar store. Someone definitely got it. For themselves or the kids.
That shit has to be healing for the soul you can't tell me otherwise my dear friend you cannot.
i love arthur and modern crafts. yes he bought a kiddy craft kit when he first timewarped because the concept of spending money on hobbies was new. but more than that - he never had the chance to explore mediums. bessie immediately offered to pay for decent watercolors and fancy markers and colored pencils but he insisted on the cheapest option and then was upset (which came across as aggressively frustrated) when they didn't work. bessie explained very softly about the markers being dipped in water and adored how much he still lit up like he was a kid when they started working
arthur even a decade into timewarp gets very flustered over people actually spending money to encourage his hobbies and interests at christmas (which is a gift-giving holiday he can't avoid, unlike his birthday). he gets very emotional over giving given expensive pencils because the idea of people 'wasting' money to encourage his creative pursuits still effects him
both bessie and hosea will frame the few drawings he gives them and hang them in their house. while he prefers drawing from life, he has drawn horseshoe overlook from memory and hosea can be caught staring at it nostalgically
javier tried an electric guitar for all of ten minutes before going no thank you.
he has 4 different guitars because he was a little addicted to the fact acoustic guitars could come in so many different woods and also patterns in modern era. rainbow string, straps, and stickers definitely, because a guitar was actually affordable and no longer a prized possession (on bessie's dime, they're all secondhand)
he has one is acoustic/electric hybrid that he only brings out when isaac is begging for a jam session, because isaac also knows guitar and is obsessed with electric for recording
he does admittedly love playing with music software. is garageband still a thing? sometimes he will plug in his one hybrid guitar and add his own bass and drum to hear an actual full song of one of his more original pieces
susan grimshaw is the first to try crochet and everyone has at least one crocheted animal in their house. karen, charles and kieran are all knitters. karen maintained the habit from canon era and always knits maeve a sweater before winter. kieran learned it because repetitive and a hell of a lot cheaper than his other hobbies, he uses the cheapest yarn and can only make scarves
charles got into it because something creative he can do with his hands like making his own arrows (he admits purchased arrows are more reliable despite still hunting with a bow when he goes camping). charles most strongly believed in the curse of the sweater but arthur wears his charles' knitted sweater very proudly.
kieran is an avid gardener. it was the first 'task' he was given to encourage him to leave his room and once noise-cancelling headphones are introduced most people look for him in the garden first. him and bessie lose entire weekends in the garden, weeding or checking soil phd. she will take time off work when the weather is right for planting saplings
gardening is one of kieran's hyperfixations where he will abandon asl to actively talk to people about gardening no matter what. for this reason jake adler is one of his favorite people, who is more of a survivalist, edibles only, but similarly obsessive gardener
lenny buys bought those kiddy diy indoor herb sets for maeve only to get into it when she neglected the plants and he took over. he appreciates being able to send jake+kieran a group message when a leaf on his basil looks weird and they reply with an essay of what the plant needs

Bruce is a craftsman knitter. He makes sweaters and gloves and too big winter hats for his kids that they always wear when it's cold or when they're sick
The Batkids are so affectionate with Bruce. Bruce usually avoids touch and tactile interaction because he's been told numerous times he's more ice than skin, and his babies deserve more than cold. But they truly don't care and will pout if they can't snuggle the batdad
Bruce texts them " be safe. I love you" and " dress warm. I love you" and " eat something sustainable today. I love you" he feels like he didn't say it enough when they were kids, so now he says it so often that if he doesn't or forgets, they assume something is wrong
But i feel like he says ' I love you' through his actions as well? It honestly depends on what you find more meaningful. For some Families it's strange to proclaim affection verbally, and the batfam falls in both categories really
Bruce buys them snacks when they're on patrol. It's a Thing. Dick is very delighted about it because his dad remembers his burger order after all these years. Tim cries when Bruce does the same for him
I love love love puppy Dick who tackles Bruce in hugs and accidentally injures him!! Bruce never actually minds, but it's so cute to watch his unit of a son get concerned
Damian and Jason are impossibly clingy to Bruce, but when he's cooking, it's a sight. Just Bruce holding that 6'5 man at his hip while Damian tries to see what he's doing.
Bruce brings up his kids every chance he can; Interviews, talk shows, podcasts, discussions, - he's always there bragging about this or that. And they accompany him almost always.
Bruce and Cass have tea time together, plus a bunch of binge watching they don't share with anyone else. I love to think they nuzzle their noses together like bunnies too

hello your lieuthrouple is rotating in my mind and I know they have yet to acquire a child in your fic, but I was wondering if you had any headcanons for them as dads? who is the best bedtime story reader, who looks after them when they’re sick, who can get them to sleep the fastest, who gets them dressed/hair done for school, etc etc etc. i just love hearing about them as a unit and how they care for each other and your characterizations are so wonderful, so I’d love to hear any ramblings you have
oh anon you are So In Luck because i have... so much to say about this subject. (mostly with the uh. assumption that most of this takes place in the canonical setting; i have played in a modern au one (1) time and mostly concluded that in that au Nobody There Is Cis.)
little is uh. pretty much IMMEDIATELY great at all of it. somehow this does not surprise him (or the other two); he had many siblings even if not many nieces and nephews (most of his sisters did not marry and i think the only of his brothers that married did so after the expedition disappeared). the only real Thought that i have about this idea in a modern setting is that little is the one who stays at home with both kids ngl. he is also the person who hodgson wants there when he has both of them because irving is uh. too jumpy for a sick-room.
also another Thought I Had was uh. hodgson would probably (in the specific setting in my brain) have had to learn to knit/sew/etc. (and tbh all three of them could probably mend stuff) and he suddenly regains the inclination when they've decided that they want kids but aren't trying Yet (while irving is in hospital). he does not make anything that is particularly useful but fortunately little's parents never threw anything away and little's older brother essentially smuggles some ancient baby stuff back to them when he goes to visit their dad. (dad does not miss any of it.)
irving, meanwhile, gets very into making furniture while he is hospital because the doctors want him to do something that involves moving around. and while he would like the Thing That Involves Moving to be sex he can't really say that to the doctor. so saws it is. he makes more or less all of the furniture that the kids have when they're babies and a couple of toys and things when they're a bit older.
little unfortunately got uh. bonked on the head. and also nerve damage in his hands. which means that even if he had had an aptitude for knitting before (he did not) he does not now (but he is willing to hold balls of wool while hodgson's scarf evolves first into a baby blanket and then what could probably be a carpet). he was not a good knitter before, however; his mother and older sisters once tried to teach him to knit only to have to cut the attempted knitting off the needles. (this actually happened to my mother. this skill skipped a generation because i picked up knitting with only a tiny amount of effort.)
as far as getting them to sleep. tbh nobody can get james (little and hodgson's kid and also the older one) to sleep for the first ~year of his life. this is partly just... natural variation in humans and him being colicky and just kind of fussed over (affectionate) constantly but also they did have him when hodgson was not fully Unleaded/generally healthy again. which probably partly explains the colic. however. the fact that there are Three Adults (plus a nurse, which hodgson was not keen to consent to until it was pointed out to him that the only one of them who had ever held a baby before is also the guy with the brain injury) probably makes all the Newborn Stage stuff easier though. always at least one person awake to hang out with the baby if he is fussing and if they need to rotate Baby Duty they can have two people awake.
their second child, kate, is basically the world's easiest baby, though; she is (due to the godawful timing of the court-martial later in the fic) There At The Court-Martial because "wtf we are NOT leaving her with anybody she is like three months old" and she's just like. "oh a party for me?" every time she meets somebody new. this extends to her being really great at sleeping; hodgson does end up having to be Questioned about crozier's time as captain but more because he is the most likely to give a reliable account of all the lieutenants. (little has a brain injury, irving was unconscious for a few weeks, jopson only counts in the eyes of the admiralty when it suits them.) she gets to hang out with dundy for about half an hour and does not pick up on how nervous he is.
as i have said before. james is basically hodgson's software running on little's hardware (but he speaks exactly like irving, plus a bit of hodgson's at-home geordie dialect. this is confusing but very cute for everybody involved). kate, on the other hand, is like if somebody tried to be hodgson twice. (and also looks like this leyendecker painting, which was also the thing that i saw that made me think "hmm, what if the lieutenants DID have kids?")
as far as school and stuff. hodgson and irving actually met because hodgson was irving's instructor on board hms excellent and all three of them are book smart even if not people smart. hodgson is not, however, very good at teaching children. irving, on the other hand, at one point took over his older brother's teaching duties in the schoolroom of the church where said brother was also the priest. (this was after said brother's wife died -- he later remarried to the woman who kate is named after -- and from what i can tell irving went to stay with him for a few weeks to help him with the children and the... generally existing.) so he does most of that with both of the kids.
this is with the exception of teaching kate (and james, for the five or so minutes that he is interested) to play the piano. irving is less than useless at piano but hodgson is genuinely good at it. kate learns to play the piano from him and james also learns knitting from hodgson, because he needs an outlet for the ADHD Energy that he gets from hodgson. (ironically, even though kate is biologically the daughter of two people with adhd, she does not have adhd.)

21.) My second Tower Bridge sweater. I made it because I had originally wanted the sky on my first one to have variegated yarn like that, but couldn't find any back then. When I saw this yarn, I decided to make a second Tower Bridge sweater. This picture is from my visit to London in 2014, and I drove across the bridge while wearing it. Finally available as a T-shirt. #sambarsky #sambarskysweaters #sambarskyknitter #knit #knitting #knitter #art #artist #sweater #intarsia #handknit #towerbridge #towerbridgelondon #london #tower #bridge #londonbridge #england #unitedkingdom #thames #thamesriver #toweroflondon

Why Knitting is important?
Tumblr media
Knitting is an age-old art form that has endured through the decades, changing from a useful skill for clothing to a popular pastime. Beyond only being used to make warm sweaters and comforting scarves, knitting has many advantages for both individuals and society.
Importance of Knitting
Creativity and Self Expression
Stress Relief and Mindfulness

Sustainable and Eco-Friendly
Creativity and Self Expression
Tumblr media
Knitting is a creative expression
Knitting is a creative medium through which one can convey their feelings. They may turn ordinary material into a superb work of art by using yarn and a needle to create amazing patterns and designs.
People can exhibit their creativity through their choice of yarn, colors, and patterns when they knit. It’s a creative outlet that has the potential to be incredibly rewarding.
2. Stress Relief and Mindfulness
Tumblr media
Knitting is like meditation
Knitting is a calming and contemplative hobby for many people in our fast-paced, technologically-driven age. It encourages attention and lessens stress.
Like meditation, the repetitive actions of knitting can have a relaxing impact on the mind. It enhances general mental health by lowering stress and anxiety levels.
3. Sense of Accomplishment
Tumblr media
Relaxing
Whether you’re knitting a complicated sweater or a small dishcloth, finishing a project gives you a sense of pride and satisfaction. It’s a concrete method of observing advancement and proficiency in a skill. Knitting is not only a lone hobby; it’s a social activity that promotes community.
It circles, also referred to as “stitch ” get-togethers, provide a space for knitters to connect, socialize, and form friendships. These gatherings unite anyone, regardless of age, gender, or nationality, who have a passion for yarn and needles. In an increasingly digital world, the sense of connection that the groups offer is essential.
4. Social Connection
Tumblr media
Knitting fosters a strong sense of community; knitters may interact, exchange advice, and encourage one another through knitting circles, clubs, and online forums. It encourages camaraderie and a feeling of inclusion.
5. Sustainable and Eco-Friendly
Tumblr media
By encouraging the use of natural fibers and lowering dependency on mass-produced, disposable apparel, knitting promotes a more sustainable lifestyle. It’s a method for making high-quality clothing endure longer.
Conclusion
Knitting has numerous physical, psychological, and social advantages and is more than simply a pastime. It’s also a creative, therapeutic, and community-building exercise. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced knitter, learning this art form can improve and brighten your life.
A knitting blog that explores many interpretations can help readers understand the depth and significance of knitting beyond its practical applications. It can provide tools, inspiration, and guidance to both experienced and inexperienced knitters. Small pleasures that are easily missed in the hurry of contemporary life are provided by it. It is helpful not only in daily living but also in the areas of artistic expression, healing, and community development.

SUSTAINABLE LIVING - MODERN LIVING AND WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH KNITTING?
Everything in balance...
So recently, due to the worldwide pandemic, I found myself with a lot of time on my hands.  (It’s over a year later and we are still feeling the effects.)  I thought this was a wonderful opportunity to work on some knitting designs I’ve had in the works for a while and prepare for the annual winter craft and trade show I usually attend, however, nothing ever entirely goes as you plan.  KNITTER’S WRIST IS A REAL THING!  I sprained my wrist at the beginning of April and couldn’t knit anything for almost two months.  What’s a knitter to do?
I binge watched Netflix for about a week and then I became very bored.  I needed something to do after my son went to bed other than watch TV.  I saw an advertisement on Facebook for some online courses through a website based out of the UK, that after a bit of research, I found was quite reputable and so my quest for knowledge to end my boredom began.
Among the many courses I decided to sign up for, some to help further my career, others that were just for fun, I found one that I was just plain curious about, Sustainable Living.
Now I am sure you are wondering what this has to do with knitting... a lot actually.  As knitters we get to choose the kind of yarn we use to knit with.  So why not choose a few items that are a bit healthier for the environment.  Wool over acrylic yarn is a great start especially if you buy from a smaller business that is certified organic and ethical.  They are out there and yes they are a bit more expensive than buying from a big box store but I’m okay paying a little more for quality and a healthier environment.  O-Wool is an amazing brand of wool yarn (it is in the name) that is based out of the United States and luckily for me, ships to Canada for a very reasonable price.  If you are interested in learning more about this company and their amazing 100% merino and cotton/wool blend yarns please go to www.o-wool.com for more details.
Tumblr media
Another simple change that is easy to make might be looking into using wooden knitting needles instead of metal ones.  However, if you love your metal needles and don’t want to give them up, buying vintage knitting needles from a secondhand store instead of new would also be a great alternative.  I’ve found that they even make wooden yarn needles now which I find very interesting to work with.
These are just a few little things you can do but if we all start thinking about the little things and making small changes in our everyday lives eventually bigger changes will follow.
