Calling König's toddlers picky eaters is the understatement of the century, if there ever was one. The word picky does not even describe how abhorrent his children are when it comes to eating food. Unlike their father, who will virtually eat anything you put in front of him no matter if it is burnt or decayed due to how he was brought up with food being a limited supply, so he is just happy to eat for once (for context on how horrific be one time you found a whole ecosystem in a bowl in his fridge that smelt like complete rot and he said it was still fine to eat), they will refuse anything and if you dare bring new foods around them expect it to be thrown onto the floor. For weeks on end, they will refuse any other food but their current fixation, then randomly, their little minds decide one day that the food is now their greatest enemy and will refuse to eat it and anything else until they find their next fixation. 

The foods they always like? The main ones are any type of fish or meat that was fried or breaded, cheese, or anything made of potatoes, cream, bread, pasta, and strawberries. The foods they always hate? The obvious ones, like most toddlers their age, are vegetables and fruits, but their hate list also includes anything new, slimy, or that smells or looks slightly off.

Given how picky they can be, König has had to become creative in getting them to eat a healthy diet.

Luckily, with having a well-paid job, a dodgy side hustle/”hobby”, and enough savings to make an average person have a heart attack König can afford to be able to get creative when he is cooking for his darlings. He will spend hours upon hours searching online for recipes and then perfecting them to make sure that the taste of vegetables will be unrecognisable so that they will finally eat them. No matter how hard or time-consuming it is, he continues to do it just because he knows it is the best for his toddlers and he can have nothing but the best for the lights of his life. After enough tests and trials with having his toddlers be his taste testers, he realised what worked best and spent thousands upon thousands of euros to get the equipment to continue doing this.

The first step König makes to put his big plan into action is to make deals with some local farmers and fishers at the market in one of the nearby villages or towns who will drop off fresh produce like meat, vegetables, fruits, grain, and dairy products for him and his kids to eat and in return, he pays them highly for both dropping off the food and giving him some of the best product. He also pays a few to help him set up his own mini farm in his garden so that he can grow a few things himself and with his toddlers so they appreciate their food more as they know where it comes from (if anyone is interested, I can expand on this idea). His next step is to order cookie cutters online, whether they be ones he had to have custom-made or ones he just found randomly when scrolling on some shopping site he had the recruits recommend him; the reason why he decides to order them is because he realised that his toddlers are more likely to eat their food or try new food if it is themed around their interests. 

And, his final step is to redo his entire kitchen from the stove to the sinks to the fridge (he decides to get two double fridges rather than the single one he had before) while getting more utensils that are not the normal things like a spatula or grater as they are more appliances like food mixer for baking or a slow cooker or a rice cooker until his kitchen was full of cooking equipment. He had brought everything he could think of and that others at KorTac or online had recommended, even if it was over the top and had cost him tens of thousands of euros, but his children were worth it all, even if it was a bit of a sink in his pocket.

With his set-up complete and recipes at hand, König can begin cooking for his picky eaters. Due to his toddlers’ preference for fried food such as chicken nuggets, he will put the chicken through the grinder himself to make a paste into which he can put chopped vegetables such as onions, peppers, corn, or mushrooms into which he can then season and bread after using the cookie cutters to make special shapes such as dinosaurs or shark or stars or rockets, it just depends on his what his toddlers’ interests are. He makes tiny edits to most of the recipes, since he prefers to make the components by hand, to make them healthier so that his toddlers have all the nutrients they need so they do not suffer like he did as a child where certain nutrients were neglected in favour of others. König will then spend hours in the kitchen preparing his meals, never letting his toddlers see his crafty tricks that get them to be healthy, which he will then serve to them like it is their regular food.

Examples of the displays of main dishes he puts together for his toddlers are fried fish in the shape of sharks with vegetables cut out in the shape of fish and potatoes that look like coral as it is plated on a water/ocean-themed plate if the toddler’s interest is sharks or a mashed potato volcano with a broccoli forest and vegetable shavings grass with dinosaur nuggets running away as it is plated on a forest-themed plate if the toddler’s interest is dinosaurs or vegetable shavings grass with chicken nuggets in the shape of bunnies with potato fries in the shape of Easter eggs or carrots as it is plated on a grassland-themed plate if the toddler’s interest is bunnies as Miffy has been getting extremely popular or alien shaped chicken or fish nuggets with mashed potato meteors, vegetables shaped into planets or stars, and one massive fry in the shape of a rocket as it is placed on a galaxy-themed plate if the toddler’s interest is the stars and space. Normally, the main dishes will come with a side of any food group he does not add to the main dish, or it may be extras he thinks his toddlers will like but wants them to control the amount they have, like a mixture of cheese he shredded or others vegetables he cut up that they can use to break up their main meal or a fresh bun he had brought.

While the examples of desserts and snacks he makes for his toddlers are milk bread sandwiches with a filling of cream, jam, and fruits that are cut into any shapes his toddlers want that day, or he will use an ice cream machine he brought to make a more healthy version of ice cream that he will sneak more fruits into that he thinks will match the flavour (such as strawberries and blueberries or peaches added into vanilla ice cream or bananas added into vanilla ice cream) with frozen or dried fruit shavings as a topping or a snack they can chew on in the middle of the day or tiny, or little cupcakes filled with fruit pieces and topped with homemade cream that can fit into their tiny little hands as he uses cut up fruits to add features such as spines or bunny ears or marshmallows with details on like stars or paw prints or specially shaped pancakes that are decorated with fruits and whipped cream to give details to make it look like their interests like dinosaurs or cats.

But this is not everything. With the countless recipes he has, he can make countless displays so that his toddlers are never bored. He may substitute one ingredient for another if he wants his children to try new foods or if he wants to change the taste slightly to stop boredom. He may substitute and swap options for new variety or when he thinks his kids are lacking, as he just wants to make sure they are healthy and try any food possible.

CHAPTER 0: To See a Familiar Face [Lookism x Reincarnated!reader]

DESC: After three boring and uneventful years, you finally know where you got reincarnated into. And it all starts with: befriending Zoe Park, your new neighbor.

It’s been three years since you’ve been reincarnated into the world of… Well, you don’t know yet. To be precise, you’re currently three years old and chopping down vegetables for the stew you were currently boiling. The shifting of pages could be heard behind you. It was your mom, reading a new novel she picked up from the bookstore, while your dad was watching some baseball game on the tv.

Why were your parents allowing you to cook, you ask?

Well, after a few years of raising you, they realized that you were far different from the rest. At the age of 1, they saw you drawing using your left hand on a piece of paper. Then, the letter alphabets your parents jokingly placed on the refrigerator was arranged with the words “I’m hungry.” On the bottom. Somewhere a 1 year old would reach.

As time passed by, your mother, (M/N), decided to train you into using kitchen utensils by using silicon appliances. Lo and behold, after a year of practicing you were able to make your own dish and clean up the mess in the kitchen without any help.

There was no shadow of a doubt that you were a gifted kid! Your father tested your intelligence by using math and science, and was chocked to see you answering correctly like a breeze.

They wanted to enroll you into a school for gifted kids, but you rejected. I mean, if you were given a second chance in the afterlife to live again and start anew, who on earth would immediately ditch their childhood for education?

On the day you were born, you made a promise to yourself. You wouldn’t live your life wasting away by doing nothing and depending on people for your wants and needs, you wanted to become a better person than before.

Which brings us back here, to the present.

You took your chopping board and poured down your veggies into the stew. After mixing them together for a while, you closed the lid and went back to the living room with your parents.

You didn’t exactly know which world you were in yet. You only knew you were in a different world altogether was due to the odd censoring of brand names that surrounded your life. Coca-Cola was named C#ca-C#la, or clothing brands like H&M were now named L&M.

You looked over to your parents who were still sitting down. They noticed you walking into the living room awhile ago and nodded towards your direction. Speaking of parents, you were lucky you were born into this family.

Your father, (F/N), was just like your father in real life. Same as your mother. There were some stark differences however. Like how your father’s job was being a network engineer. Your mother‘s job was being a stay at home online assistant for a corporate company that typically didn’t need her presence in the building.

Both parents had successful jobs that raked in enough money for them to live in a big apartment in the city, and enough to spoil you. Honestly? If the original soul of your body was a normal one, you would have guessed they would eventually become a spoiled brat.

The beeping of your timer snapped you out of your thoughts before standing back up and running towards the kitchen. As the stew was done, you called in your parents to eat.

While setting down the various food you prepared along with some leftovers from last night, you couldn’t help but think about which world you reincarnated into.

It had been an uneventful three years in your opinion. Just going to family events, out to shop or to hang out as a family, or just staying at home, playing with toys you asked front our parents.

Nothing gave you an idea as to where you reincarnated really. Which disappointed you to the idea that maybe you were reincarnated somewhere not special at all, which dampened your mood hit you couldn’t care less.

You were living the life of luxury. You had both living parents who had stable jobs, toys you couldn’t have when you were a kid in your last life, and even a loving, respectful, and open minded relatives who accepted anyone for who they are.

Your lunchtime was disrupted by a knock on the door. Your parents stopped talking and looked at each other before nodding. “I’ll go get it.” Your mother responded as she stood up and ripened the door.

You decided to not look back at them and continue eating your meal. Eventually, your father stood up as well to greet the new neighbors.

Wait— new neighbors? You thought.

You looked back from your seat to see a woman, accompanied by a little girl who was hiding behind her. Tiny hands clutching the hems of her mom’s skirt, slightly shaking due to the new people infront of her.

You walked away from your seat and joined your parents to greet the new neighbors.

“Oh! And this is my daughter, (Y/N). She hasn’t started nursery yet, much like your daughter!” Your mother gave the woman a loving smile before holding you right next to her. You look down to try and catch a glimpse of said kid, but now she was hiding more than ever.

The woman, noticing your curiosity, tapped her daughter’s head as a sign to tell her to introduce herself. The girl shakes her head in disapproval, but her mom wasn’t having it. She kneeled down to face her kid with a smile of comfort on her face. “Come on, dear. There is nothing to be afraid of. It wouldn’t hurt for you to have more friends.”

After a few seconds, the girl finally took her hands off of her mom, as she walked infront and hung her head low.

“Hello…. My name is Zoe Park… it’s nice to meet you…” she uttered.

The smile on your face faltered. Only for a slight second, before putting it back up and nodding. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Zoe. I hope we get along.”

Your welcoming words surprised Zoe, which made her look straight into your eyes. You were expecting to see a pretty face with her iconic bob cut. But what you see almost made you trip on your own feet.

Despite being 3, Zoe’s face was adorned with, what you’re assuming is, pimples. Her eyebrows were thick, almost forming a unibrow. The glasses resting on her face had thick green and orange striped rims. Her lips were incredibly chappy, despite being a toddler. Her hair wasn’t helping her case. Despite being long and silky, they were thick. It was tied up by a ponytail.

But before you could even react, a blue screen popped right infront of you. On it was:

After three years of being reincarnated, you finally met one canon character from Lookism! Zoe Park, one of Daniel’s love interest at the beginning of the series.

A nudge from your father broke your trance. “Aren’t you going to welcome her in, (Y/N)?” He asked. You looked over to your parents facial features to realize that they weren’t bothered at all by Zoe’s looks. Rather, they were testing how you would react to her appearances yourself.

You looked back to Zoe, now anxiously fidgeting her hands, still awaiting your invitation. You gave her another smile before backing away and ushering her to come in. “Would you like to come in?”

Your parents gave you an affirming nod and welcomed Zoe’s mother in as well.

As the adults in the room conversed each other, (like your mother asking when they were from, why they moved, how were they doing, etc etc,) you and Zoe were left alone in your room. She was going around your room, looking at your toys and aweing at them all. I mean, you did have quite a lot of toys. Enough to make your room look like a mini toy store.

“Wow! You have so many toys, (Y/N)! I bet you never get tired from playing all day!” Zoe beamed, shaking your hand in the process. You laughed at her excitement, but more so from endearment. “I’m glad you like them. If you want, you can always visit anytime to play with me.” You replied.

As she was left busy with rummaging around your toys, you sat still on your bed, still completely shock due to three factors.

One, you’re face to face with Zoe Park right now. A lookism character. Which meant that you were in the PTJ universe, and being the same age as her only gave you one thing to think about: you were the same age as everyone else in the main cast of lookism. Was this pointing to something?

Two, why did Zoe look like that? Don’t get yourself wrong, you had absolutely no problem with Zoe looking unconventionally attractive than the rest. It only confused you because… well, Zoe was one of the most canonically beautiful girls in J high.

And three; a mysterious blue window stared right back at you right now, still displaying the same text from before.

It was the type of pop up windows you’d see from regression tower manhwas, where they would give the MC a quest or mission to fulfill in exchange for some goods. The only difference being, your rewards were points. Not physical objects, but points.

Your eyes looked towards Zoe. Good, she’s distracted right now. You thought to yourself. After a bit of detective work, you noticed that there were other options on the left side of the screen. It showed many various things such as a shop, a search bar, (for what exactly?) a storage area that was complete with perfectly arranged and organized empty files, and an AI named Sofia. However, all of these features were locked.

You sighed in disappointment before looking back again towards Zoe. Your theory was that Zoe was bullied and ridiculed a lot in her childhood, which made her obsess over her own looks, and eventually stemmed to liking handsome men.

Honestly, you felt her. Back in your past life, you weren’t exactly the most prettiest girl on the block, but not the most attractive. This made people ignore you or treat you indifferently from others. When you got reincarnated here however, you noticed how pretty you looked. You were assuming this level of beauty will eventually follow you as you age, but you couldn’t assume.

You finally stood up from your bed, startling Zoe, as you walked towards her direction. She thought you were getting annoyed by her constant touching of your toys, but she couldn’t be more wrong.

As she prepared herself to get verbally harassed, you took a toy from the ground, a doll, and held it up to her.

“Would you like to play Magical Girl with me?” You smiled. She stood there, stunned, before returning your smile. She took the doll from your hands with a grin. “Sure!” She replied.

Befriending Zoe Park won’t be so bad after all.

Also, to those who were there for the pilot episode, some of you might be wondering:

“Wait I thought this was an oc x lookism? Why did it change?”

Well, after some thought I realized that many people would rather read an x reader rather an oc. So basically what’s gonna happen is, the reader will have the same preferences, and personality as my oc but the difference is their appearance and name. I’m also still not sure if I like this first chapter even, I feel like I’m still gonna make some changes just like what I did with the pilot.

I read an article the other day on how cooking for one is an act of self-love for us single folk and I have to agree.

I have this routine these days. Through the first half of the week I scroll through recipes, typically on the Recipe Tin Eats site. I search for things I've never heard of that are common in faraway places and I tag them. One-by-one I add items to my online shopping cart. By Thursday I place the order for home delivery and then first thing on Saturday morning as the sun is just rising (a decision I regret every week), the groceries get delivered.

In the last six months I've tried new ingredients, new recipes, new cooking methods. There are spices I'd never even heard of before that I'm now comfortable using and recipes for foods from places I didn't know existed that are slowly creeping into my weekly repertoire. My tiny kitchen is now too small for the appliances and utensils that I own. Food has become too big in my life.

It's a weekly routine that I look forward to. There's something soothing about it that I can't quite put my finger on, but I know that it works. Meal prep for work lunches is no longer grilled or shredded chicken with a garden salad.

I mention it today because I woke to a wave of grief and emotion over the men that have come and gone from my life over the years, and I was shocked to find myself feeling that way. But then it clocked what feminine things were occurring in my body at this time of the month and I shook it off. I shook it off because the feeling is mostly foreign these days and I'm so confident it will pass as this stage of the monthly cycle passes. The loneliness and lack of love doesn't drown me as frequently or quite severely as it used to. My life has become this solitary little routine that seems to feed my soul and keep it nourished. The cooking and the preparation seems to be a big part of that and I'm not really sure why or how. I just know that every weekend I prep for the week ahead and the learning, exploration, and then the reward at the end really is such an act of self-love that it has a grounding quality to it. It settles me.

The level of acceptance I have for myself and who I am is so high these days. I still see my flaws and I still work at them, but I also am unapologetically who I am. When I'm not at work, even though I'm mostly alone, I now routinely do all these little things that make me content in my solo little bubble. I wonder at times how a man would ever fit into my life now. What man would be worth disrupting my peace when it took so long (and so much money on therapy...) to create?

So it's a simple thing, this cooking routine, but it is an act of self-love. In the madness that is this new year and the world right now, it's a practice in mindfulness that doesn't involve sitting on a yoga mat with my eyes closed and it gets me better results. It turns out that keeping your body nourished can also be a way to keep your soul nourished.

DIY Kitchen Cart

Project by Chris Gardner:

today the curbly team was kind enough to let me share a project from the ebook so i’ve chosen my favorite: converting a secondhand file cabinet into a cute kitchen cart. we’ve all seen a few sad and lonely file cabinets discarded on the street, so the next time you do, grab one and you can follow these instructions to create your own colorful (and functional) kitchen cart. thanks so much to bruno, chris gardner, and everyone at curbly for sharing this project with us. 

We’ve never met anyone who couldn’t use more kitchen storage and counter space. This rolling kitchen cart offers both – drawers for storage of tools, spices, or root vegetables, racks to hang towels and utensils, and a butcher-block top for food preparation or appliance storage.

The main structure is a used filing cabinet, which are plentiful in secondhand shops, garage sales, and online classified listings. We found ours for less than three dollars at a charity shop. Look for a filing cabinet whose drawers and hardware are in working order, and for a case that has no major dents or damage. The color and finish are of no consequence, as it’ll be painted.

Materials:

Secondhand filing cabinet

Spray metal primer

2 cans spray paint

Two rolling casters and two locking casters

A cutting board or piece of butcher block that’s at least the size of the top of your filing cabinet

Two inexpensive horizontal towel racks

Tools:

Mineral spirits or sticker remover

Electric drill

1⁄8” and 1⁄16” drill bits

24 1⁄8” bolts, 1/2 – 1” long

24 1⁄8” nuts

4 #8 short screws

Washers (if necessary)

Steps:

1. Remove the drawers, and use mineral spirits or sticker remover to get rid of any tape residue, labels, or grime, and wipe clean. Remove any hardware will come off easily, and cover remaining hardware with painter’s tape. Then, spray the cabinet case and drawers with a coat of metal primer, followed by two coats of spray paint.

2. Mark the location of the holes of your casters on the bottom of your filing cabinet, and drill 1 ⁄8” holes for the screws. If the cabinet bottom is not solid, use a piece of scrap wood under the ledges to prevent them from bending under the drill. If the metal is thick, you can use a blow torch to soften the metal, but most drills should be able to get through. Then, screw in the casters using the included screws or 1⁄8” bolts and nuts.

3. Attach the towel/utensil racks to the sides by marking and drilling holes as in step two, and securing them with short bolts and nuts.
