i think one of the biggest challenges with advising new dog people on how to find responsible breeders is teaching them norms. I've spoken to so many people who've started a sentence with "i don't know much about dog breeding so maybe this is normal, but-" and then say the absolute wildest shit I've ever heard in my life. no, it's not normal for a dog breeder to want to talk to your mom because you're 25 and female. no, it's not normal for breeder's dogs to not have been vaccinated because of 'herd immunity'. no, it's not normal for breeders to have 7 litters at a time, expecting 5 more next month.
and what all of these people tend to have in common is that they're just looking for a companion, and they probably did feel bad about the situation. but they didn't have the context to realize just how abnormal it was, so they doubted their own reaction, and really really wanted a dog.

in case you live under the misapprehension that most indians must try to eat well seasoned food, my housemate fixed it for me by eating moong lentils made with just water and probably salt.

Almost all men died because they didn't have enough blood to protect them from invasive coral and also, I assembled a mini kitchen.

Week 3 LSAD 04/10/2024. Brief 2 "Assemble"
Print making. I used Procreate to create a series of my prints in different techniques. I did not edit the images except the overlay.
In the series of images, I explore how plants gather energy, like magnets pulling things toward them. I used abstract shapes to show how energy flows into the plant. I wanted to show how energy comes together from all around. This work aims to evoke a sense of invisible forces becoming visible through the assembly of natural elements.

we finished painting the walls in my room today - well, two of them, the ones that we started yesterday. tomorrow we're going to ikea, and then hopefully we'll finish the one wall in my husband's room, and start the two in my room (they're gonna be a different colour than the first two)

Fiona introduced us to the interesting term “à la poupée” after I used this technique to create an image where different colors of ink were applied and blended together in various shades. The French word “à la poupée” in printmaking refers to a technique where different colors of ink are applied to different areas of a single plate, often blending in interesting ways on the final print.
It sounded and looked like there was too much ink on the roller 🔈👀

I hate when I'm watching a terrible recipe video (you know the kind. Standard attractive woman putting cans of stuff and an entire bag of shredded cheese into a casserole dish and calling it cooking) and I go into the comments to see the "recipe" get torn to shreds and it's like. People complaining about the lack of gloves (she's cooking at home. for herself and possibly her family. Hopefully she washed her hands) or using the "wrong" cutting board (it's her cutting board in her kitchen. She can use whatever color she wants)

I either need to be less ambitious, or sew faster. Each stack is a quilt. Thankfully the first on the left is almost done, the tallest one already has the backing picked out, and the three on the right will be all the same, simple Beads pattern from Jordan Fabrics.

Week 3 LSAD 04/10/2024. Brief 2 "Assemble"
In my experimental session of kitchen litho with Fiona on Friday, I got to try new techniques. Kitchen litho is an easy and eco-friendly way to do printmaking using everyday kitchen materials. I used aluminum foil as the plate, and instead of chemicals, I used Coca-Cola. I drew on the foil with a wax crayon, then etched it to fix the drawing.
"À la poupée" is another technique I explored. It’s a way to add different colors to a single plate. I used small cloths to carefully apply different inks to specific areas of the plate, so the print comes out multicolored in one go. To remove excess ink I used toothpaste and a rag.
My experiment with small details made by 9B and 6B pencils, ink with white spirit, oil-based fat pencil was unsuccessful (blue ink print and foil on my second page)
