Patch 4 Astarion Kiss... ugh.

The kiss went from "Okay sure it's short but it's still sweet" to somehow turning into "Ew, why do I feel I've turned into your grandmother?" Or "Why are you kissing me like we've been married for twenty-eight years and we barely tolerate one another?"

Sadly the new kiss isn't even working at all in my game. He just goes all quiet and gives Anna this panicked look, like he's about to start running for the hills, and the scene ends. No kiss and I'm left feeling a little more than just a touch rejected instead. It's bad enough he started making this an "Ew" face during patch three after giving out a kiss and breaking the fourth wall too. Ouch... at my wit's end here. What's left of my old, brittle, and salty heart can no longer take any more abuse, Larian.

I don't know what's causing this. I don't heavily mod my game. A few hairstyles, some extra dye options, and that basket of gear. So I'm not sure which one is the problem. Praying for a hotfix soon as I go through my mods to try and figure out which one is the culprit.

From what I've seen of him kissing others on YouTube, to be brutally honest, I never thought watching Astarion kiss would be such a turn-off. Sure he's struggling with intimacy but there are better ways to show that he needs something more gentle or restrained.

For starters slow down the whole moment when it comes to ALL of the companions' kissing animations. Trust me Larian, if we're asking for affection from our love interests we're NOT in a hurry. Slowing down the action during a kiss scene, as if they were moving through water, is a classic filming tactic to make things more intense.

For Astarion why not have him draw in slowly with a shy or small smile and soft gaze. Have him lean in perhaps embrace the player character about the waist while his forehead comes to rest against theirs. His eyes close, and his nose bumps and brushes his lover's for a few moments. Maybe our character can then caress his cheek and jaw as they wait for him to press his lips to theirs. Three soft and slow pecks minimum and then go back to nose nuzzling. Then finally, with a happy sigh and a relaxed grin, he slowly draws back.

That would be sweet and far more affectionate.

(Gaw, this sucks I can't even kiss him now. I legit just want to give him a billion nose nuzzles, brush my forehead against his, and caress his cheeks, jaw, and ears far more than kiss him.)

LOOK I JUST REALLY ENJOY THEIR FRIENDSHIP OK?? You can't tell me they wouldn't hang after their respective personal quests (spawn ending ofc)/emotional breakdowns over their own mortality

One of the things I really appreciate about Dungeon Meshi is how the text is so clearly full of love for animals. Like the true kind of love Laios feels for the monster where he wants to know everything about them, but most of all he respects them and loves them as animals.

One of the chapters I can't stop thinking about is the one about Anne the Kelpie. It's kind of impressive how well it illustrates the different kind of love people have for animals. And how someone that loves an animal isn't necessarily an animal lover. If that makes sense.

When Senshi calls out Anne what he says is "Don't worry Anne's Harmless" but she isn't, she's a wild animal.

Marcille immediately reacts positively about it thinking it's cute she accepts the treat Senshi has for her. And hers and Chilchuck's reaction to Senshi wanting to cross the river on her back is more surprise while Laios immediately realizes how bad of an idea it is.

But Laios is the animal monster lover so how come when he finally is faced with a "docile" monster he doesn't react positively like the others? Marcille even calls him a monster. That's because Laios loves monsters, and Senshi loves Anne.

I've seen this attitude around me several times, where people love a specific animal but what they love is their idea of that animal, they don't really know them because they don't love the animal part of them.

It becomes a "this one is special because I love them" that can quickly become an issue for the animal as much as it is for the person. It's something unfortunate I see time and time again irl.

Anne wasn't wicked, Anne wasn't mean, Anne didn't trick him. Anne was a wild animal and Senshi loved her as Anne but not as a kelpie.

She acted on instinct, maybe she did love Senshi in the way kelpies can love, but animals are still animals and must be respected and treated as such. Climbing on top of Anne's back was the equivalent of putting your arm inside a alligator's mouth, the mouth is gonna close because that's what they're designed to do.

The real life equivalent I see the most of "I love this animal but I don't love the animal part of them" is with dogs. If you insist on loving an animal without acknowledging they ARE an animal they might hurt you, you might hurt them, it will only end in grief.

The best way you can love an animal is by understanding they're an animal.

That is all to say I don't mean that the love Senshi felt for Anne wasn't real or that it's all his fault. He couldn't have known with the information he had and unfortunately it came down to the worst outcome.

I just love dungeon meshi dearly.

if you still sleep with a stuffed animal…

- price makes sure you don’t feel childish for it. you’re a little reluctant about admitting it first, but there’s no hiding it once you move in. you grip the edge of your shirt and stare down into the floor when he asks you about the well-loved teddy in one of your moving boxes. he embraces you and reminds you of your age and your big girl job, your degree, your car. none of that changes because you sleep with a stuffie, he mutters as his hands find your wide ass. goes on to tell you all the grown up things he wants to do you.

- kyle finds it endearing, even when you’re a little embarrassed to tell him about it. you’re already the most important person in the world to him. a stuffie only makes you more adorable in his eyes. and frankly, he gets it. it’s nice having something soft and warm to hold when you go sleep, he says and winks at you. still, teddy gets turned the other way when you two start undressing each other.

- johnny finds it a little odd, but only because he can fall asleep standing up in a chopper mid-flight, and therefore doesn’t quite understand that you have specific requirements in order to sleep well. but doesn’t tease you for it, instead always making sure teddy’s around for you. brings him out to the living room when you two (now three) are watching a movie and even borrows him for himself when you’re away. claims it’s because he smells like you, denies it’s because he’s growing fond of him too.

- simon treats teddy with the utmost respect. he probably had one too, long ago, until his father destroyed it. he understands your feelings about your stuffie and places him carefully on the floor next to the bed if you two get busy. stitches up his torn seams with his balaclava-thread. slides him gently back under your arm if you’re already asleep when he comes to bed. puts his own arms around you in turn, protecting your back while teddy has your front. still, slips a hand under your shirt to feel the soft skin of your tits to fall asleep to.
