I like to think that Elfilin knew he was half of Fecto Elflis, and he did everything in his power to keep Kirby, Bandee, and the other waddle dees away from that fact before getting captured. Because he was worried if they knew what he was, they’d hate him due to being essentially the reason they were dragged away for their homes.

He actually feels guilty for even being a part of fecto, and even more so when he’s dragged into fecto forgo and turned against Kirby and Bandee.

This guilt finally rolls over into his sacrifice in the first ending of the game (sealing the rift between the two worlds, saving them both, not knowing if he’d survive the ordeal of it all), because he figures this is the only way to redeem himself, show Kirby and Bandee his gratitude, and to make amends for everything the PopStar natives went through.
