I initially was like "oh wow brnine texting jesset for emotional support as soon as they get the sense that something to do with Valence is happening, how sweet, it really shows how far their relationship has come in the timeskip, from blaming him for Valence's death to 'ok' but distant in the finale to now besties" AND Then INSTEAD ali says Brnine texted them because HE AND VALENCE were FRIENDS im ILL IM BROKEN. like you were friends with them too if this is real in any way you should be here because you loved them too im going to DIE

I mean if we're tossing out advernture role ideas, how about Mage?
Instead of barbarian or walking fortress, a tall buff magic user of some kind who just blankly stares when people ask "why so buff" and just calmly responds "A strong mind is not enough, one must be balenced. Strong body, Strong mind..learned it from a monk."
Buttttt if its between A and B there, I vite for walking fortress. Give them the armor. All the armor.
Context in this older post.
Aah... this reminds me of the buff mage meme... The calm and blank bit however does not match the original ask in "mean", though of course all the details are up to me.
The mage could lose their sh*t in combat though... :D
It is an idea certainly, thanks!

Hi!! I saw your tmnt coalescence iteration redesign for your Leo and donnie and these are such incredibly well thought of designs and wanted to know your thought process behind them! Also would love to see the redesign for raph and Mikey too, if you've drawn them already, also one more thing! Have you ever explained why you named your tmnt iteration coalescence? Would love to know! Anyways have a good day!
rubs my hands together evily. thank you sooo much!! i originally started with this sketch for leo, as i realized i was holding myself back when it came to designing them originally.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
heres some notes about leo’s current design:
came up with the black n white palette because i wanted something to balence out the dark blue
other than being a really good contrast, i included more red to represent raph
the robe was gonna be left blank but a large shape of blue wouldn't work well
arm bandages?) reach his biceps to match donnie (an idea from the last design)
as for don, i remember struggling a lot for two days straight. i designed him before leo so i had no idea how i wanted them to look different from eachother. i almost gave him baggy pants, a battle shell, and white gear. the pants wouldve been out of place and i wanted to give him his shell. i had to use pinterest alot for “something weird” cause hes weird lol . these boots are the direct inspiration for his
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really want my turtles to have saturated and unique color palettes but still have some kind of connection to eachother… like donnie has his mask tails being his brother’s colors and leo having red as an accent color to represent raph a bit!
im currently working on raph and mikey! they look the same but much more flair! heres the tinniest sneak peek ;)
Tumblr media
as for the title, its honestly pretty simple.
coalescence means “to unite into a whole” or “the union of diverse things into one body or form or group; the growing together of parts.” TMNT has always been about family to me, and i wanted my iteration to include that as well.
i found the word because of this song, highly recommend listening cause it matches the vibe of my au perfectly
the word coalescence also has a magical vibe to it :)

i dont think any of u understand the true power that a more masculine-leaning zim and a femme-leaning dib holds. think about it. think about it.
the drama, the glamour, the dynamic, it all worjs out perfectly when its laid out like this. domt get me wrong i love a good femme zim but sweet baby jesus does he look good with 80s glam rock broad-shouldered jackets and a general greaser fratboy swagger.
dib with a more feminine silhouette; softer, rounder, we all love a circle boy. i mean look at the comics, squishy nano tape bubble man boy. being femme connects him with womanhood which cinnects him to motherhood which connects him to thr typical representation of earth as a whole. earth is a woman, and she is our mother.
i think making dib give mother, in other words, is a nice like. motif thingy yk i think it would be cool.
i think dibs seconddary color ehould be a kind of brilliant vermillion red. fuck you etf got that right. the color of human blood, of our life, the most jarring difference between other aliens and us humans [seeing that zim is regarded as having non-red blood quite often i see, personally i think ur all wrong and its actually blue but whatever amiright /j]
zim and dib should defect from these typicals by playing into the typicals in a way thay could only be them. they are the center of their own universe they founded. they complete each other, take on where the other leaves barren. they stay balenced that way. red is the opposite of blue, the way black is the opisite of white. differing colors that start where the others stop. they create grey, they create violet. black is the color of my true loves hair, white is the color of the holy lord's throne.

I want advice on how to properly study the French Revolution. Despite the presence of official sources from the contemporaries of the revolution period, you may find that the writer may tell lies about Robespierre or Saint-Just and others, and sometimes you may find books that do not convey the truth only because of the writer's bias towards his political ideas, as the writer may stand against Robespierre only because of his political orientation or his ideology in general without forgetting the emotional bias .. How can I study about the revolution without properly facing any kind of these problems .. because I'm new to frev community.
I can really relate to your struggle as I felt the same way when I started studying frev almost three years ago — everywhere I looked I found new claims which more often than not didn’t have a source attached to them, and this was made worse by the fact that it was clear the person writing very often did so less for the facts in themselves and more with the intention of convincing me how to think about a certain person or event. This just ended with me having some sort of minor crisis having no idea what was even real in the first place and what wasn’t. Now, there unfortunately exists no official ”proper” way on how to study history, everyone works differently. Likewise, it’s also impossible to study history without facing any sort of biases. That said, what cleared things for me personally was mainly getting hold of all the primary sources we have for Robespierre. Basically, the texts found within Oeuvres complètes de Robespierre, Papiers inédits trouves chez Robespierre, Saint-Just, Payan etc and Recueil des actes du comité de salut public are (with a few exceptions) the only things we can prove actually came from his brain. They are therefore the places where it’s most unlikely you’ll find any lies/biases/weird interpretations regarding him. I’ve already compiled these, along with several other primary sources, in this post, and @rbzpr has translated several of the texts found within them into English in case you don’t know French.
For contemporary descriptions, which I would argue are the sources that come in second place when it comes to learning about a historical person, you’re right in that balanced and three-dimensional ones are often really hard to find when it comes to Robespierre (and Saint-Just too I’m sure). This is because most descriptions we have of them were written not with the intention of giving a balenced and accurate picture of they were as people, but rather to convince its readers what good/bad guys they were. None of this does however mean that we should just ignore contemporary descriptions, they can still be an incredible historical source. What we do need to do is contextualize and critically analyze them before jumping to conclusions. A good way to do this would for example be to compare several contemporary descriptions in order to find similiarities and differences (that is what I tried to do in this post) and then critically think about and postulate on what the truth could be. If for example more than one person underlines a certain trait, then it is more likely for that to be true.
As for books, like I said before, you’ll never find any that doesn’t contain any sort of biases, no matter how neutral the author claims to have been. My own rule to avoid misinformation when it comes to books has basically become to not not trust anything that doesn’t have a source attached to it (so books that don’t use footnotes are pretty much wasted on me…). If you think that’s a bit too extreme, I would at least advice you to be cautious with sentences that start with ”It has been said that…” or An alleged story goes like…” because it’s not uncommon that will be followed by claims that might actually be apocryphal but hold themselves alive anyway just because no one bothers to check their origin properly.
If you were to ask me for just one book to read if you want to hear the Real Story in regards to Robespierre, without any biases in neither direction, I’d probably say Robespierre (2014) by Hervé Leuwers. When reading it, I never really get the feeling that the author particulary likes nor dislikes Robespierre, he’s just treating him like a normal person and telling his story as far as the primary sources allow him and without ever letting his own theories/ideas get the upper hand. However, I don’t know if it’s too advanced for someone who has just started studying frev (I myself got it when I had already studied it for about a year so idk). It’s also in French, which I don’t know if you know or not… The Robespierre biography that I’d say I found the most helpful when I was new to this was probably Robespierre (1935) by British historian J.M Thompson. While Thompson will give his opinion on things going on more than Leuwers does, it’s easy to tell what is fact and what is interpretation. His biography is also very rigorously sourced, and he has chosen to include and analyse almost every single one of Robespierre’s letters and bigger speeches.
If anyone has any other advice on how to best study frev without meeting too many biases, feel free to share!

can we talk about SASHA?????? DIRECTOR W????????
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE
like....... gaslight gatekeep girlboss but. do we have to be so violent about it.
genuinely go her shes pretty much rehauled all of dark matters. and it's not that dark matters didn't need the rehaul but. I think we might've gone a to deep in one direction here?
like.. I. i dont even know at this point. it feels a bit.. morally unbalenced? I mean techniaclly everyone is a bit morally skewed bc they're all criminals andall but.
Dark Matters seems to me like a force with all the power of a government institution with none of the checks or balences. as ineffective as those checks and balences may be, they still exist.
I like the whole recording the desicions made thing (logging the murder of agent g and stunning of juno with the blast and weapons specifics??) but..... that doesnt seem to stop them from commiting that violence? I vaugley remember G recording smth along those lines in the megaultrabots of cyberjustice episodes too? like it's good have a record of it so agents aren't just killing whoever the hell they want and nobody knowing or doing anything about it but it doesnt reallyseem like theres anyone doing anything about it anyway? Like 'yeah go commit extreame amounts of violence against whoever you want to get your mission done just make sure you log it' and then nothing is done with those loggings??like theres no punishment for the violence and bc of that the violnce is only going to get worse?
the equivelent of federal agents or not the whole thing kind reeks of corrupt cop to me?
idk its 4am but i am very very interested to here any takes you have on the subject
ong dark matters js gives some illusion of them being "the good guys" at that point their priorities were insane maybe thats why sasha lost her mind/j
I think ahe just crumbled under the pressure so she gave juno the choice but he obviously wasnt gonna cooperate she was kinda panicking trying to rationalize the whole kill my childhood friend for the greater good thing

A cautious "thumbs up" for Ozempic/Wegovy for weight loss.
There is a lot of nonsense about Ozempic/Wegovy (semaglutide) for managing hunger and loosing weight. If you have heard anything about it, it's probably that celebrities are taking it, that it works fast, that is might make your face look gaunt, old and that it is the "latest fad diet" this is pretty annoying since I don't think much of this is accurate.
My Story
I was not in the market for any kind of weight loss assistance until I shattered my leg two years ago. I was perfectly happy being fairly active, fat, and not stressed about diet or body image. But, breaking my leg changed my perspective: doing PR with so much weight was much harder than I anticipated, so hard that there was a good chance I might not really walk again. So, I started looking into diets and drugs to see if anything had improved since I'd last cared about such things.
Tumblr media
Before semaglutide, the only effective drugs for weight loss were things like phentermine. Phentermine is ... well, it's pretty much meth. You can take it for three months and not be hungry and lose some weight, but then it stops working (unless you take more, but too much will give you a heart attack.) So meth-like drugs aren't a great solution. Nearly any other drug or over the counter "weight loss" pill is probably a scam.
Semaglutide is different. It works by reducing the rate that your stomach empties after you eat. So you stay full longer. This can also lead to nausea and strange tasting burps if your dose is too, high, which mine was initially. Semaglutide has been used for years to treat diabetes. Prescribing it for weight loss is new.
I told my doctor about my concerns about not making enough progress in physical therapy if I didn't reduce my weight. I told her about the diet journal I kept, and how I was worried that if I focused on food all the time my ED would come back. She got me signed up for the drug which is injectable. You take it once a week.
I tried my first dose and within hours I was not hungry at all. It was a little scary at first. I would forget to eat. That's not something I've ever done in my life. The stress of thinking about food was gone. And though I did feel a little nauseous for the first few days, soon I was loosing weight as a decent pace, without feeling obsessed with weighing myself and counting calories, without feeling wired on meth. I'm really happy with my progress.
Tumblr media
My PR sessions started going much better after I was down 15 pounds, now that I'm down 40 pounds I'm taking up jogging again. I think I can find a new balence. I'm ambivalent about loosing weight. I'm over the moon about walking and having better mobility!
I don't feel like I look that different, which is a relief. I feel better and that's what matters.
This drug is currently kind of annoying to get since its in high demand. That shouldn't last forever. It probably isn't right for everyone. Read the message boards experiences vary. Mine has been particularly good.
Before going on a diet or using any diet aid think about what you are trying to get out of it. Your weight doesn't define who you are but for me it was getting in my way.
I'm not a totally new and different person, but I feel healthier and I can do more of the things that I want, and to me that makes it a good choice.

For someone who really genuinely hates watching a lot of sad and angsty things and horror in which a lot of the time characters I care about die or get hurt repeatedly physically or emotionally
I sure do gravitate towards and firmly latch onto a lot of that in media lmao
And repeatedly those medias become my go to and cravable places to go
#idk what kind of analysis can be done into all that lmao#sometimes ya girl just gotta Feel ya know#but serious what is with me lmao#like fruits basket has some heavy shit in it and i love it and then in the flesh which is not only upsetting but unfinished#taz balence and especially and specifically from crystal kingdom onwards#rwrb and ols arent as upsetting and the characters fair way better as a whole om the physical and emotional upset compared to the others#but theres still a lot in those the characters go through#wtnv has its moments and im not caught up so a lot of what i think of is all the separation carlos and cecil had while carlos was in the#dessert like i got past that part but that sticks in my mind a lot#and the whole 'i am holding the trophy' kind bit early on#and now young royals which will hopefully get a season 2#which i have a lot of thoughts about but season 1 is so good and also makes me so emotional#this isnt really relevant or the place but i super dont think itd make sense for there to be any off and on kind of thing in season two#which i think overall will be very good for these two fictional boys i am now very attached to but also the show in general#and or but i am super sure there will be plenty of other angst and issues#and its not relevant and idk where im going with it#i just have been in the tag a lot and i really have Thoughts or how i think things would make sense to do and go on certain parts#anyways lost the thought and plot of this lmao#being at work doesnt help#dont mind me#tag rambles#oh oh oh tacted on the end because i somehow forgot one that i think avout constantly and go back to actually two#no.6 and stiens gate which both are also deeply upsetting in sp many ways and also absolutely wonderful#lmao talk about grtting attached to characters that fucking die#oh lmao relavant but not and slight spoilers i just realized in in the flesh its almost the opposite haha

It's weird how genuinely painful it is for me to leave a fandom, and it feels really stupid to say that but I'm going to try and explain.
I'm not the healthiest person, mentally at least. I'm hyper aware of what happens around me but have difficulty understanding other people's emotional cues. It makes it incredibly difficult to connect with others and it's reall not helpful that I'm kind of just exspected to understand what other people are feeling from their inexplicable signs. The way I've gone about avoiding this is putting all of my focus into things that I understand. This is where fandom comes in, or more explicitly, games, books, and shows.
Characters are given features that convey their personality, there is always almost some sort of undeniable sign of outright saying what the character is feeling. There's no miscommunication when it comes to this as the main goal of a Character is to have the consumer have some sort of opinion or emotions on them.
For me personally, this always meant that I connect emotionally more with fictional characters than actual people.
Fandom was big for me as I suddenly found a place where almost everyone felt the same in some way or another. I was able to interact with my interests in a new way. But then I fall out of love with my interests.
Sure, I still like them, but not as much as I did before and it usually leaves me feeling empty in a way? I can't be a casual viewer, I just can't. I put my all into everything I care about and I have to chose what deserves this much attention. It really balences on the line of obsession, which makes the fall out that much worse.
I can be made happy by normal actual living, but not as much as getting it from some fictional source. When I no longer have this immediate reaction, it's almost devastating for me. I get most of my emotions from these and once I don't feel them as strongly as before, it leaves me feeling empty. And it's so hard for me to explain how much it affects me. And because I've made connections with people because of these fandoms, my relationships with them are practically dependent on being in the fandom. Every time I lose passion I have to cut more ties than I ever wanted to because I simply can't relate anymore. And it sucks so so so much.
It's just that this is the first time that I've been able to make this many connections. This was my first time having such a far reach. I only started using Tumblr and Archive of Our Own last year. So this time, I'm cutting so many more ties than before. And it's so hard to put into words just how much its affecting me.
tl,dr: Care too much about fictional dudes that it's actually hurting me to fall out of love with the work they're from

“First bone conclave” continued story dialogue

"However... with that being said. Since this is my domain, my personal universal plain. It has it's own rules as how our does as well, Bilhelm."
"Rules? Not to get political, but if it's anything like 'legal' policies, or conditions. You should already know that those kinds or rules don't really apply to salesmen of the Boney business."
"I know... but those aren't the kinds of rules I am stating... I must rephrase.. I mean rules that are of the same attributes of The Unknown, Bilhelm."
"Excuse me? Was this authorized?"
"Very much so, Bilhelm, do not fret. After all, you were made and born in The Unknown, you know those rules so naturally."
"Yes, Yes, I know. But it would seem a bit much for a universal plain that isn't The Mother universe to have such natural law. If I heard that correctly... but please state these natural 'rules' of your universal plain, please."
"Heheh, oh, Bilhelm. Are you now less pessimistic with me now that I mention natural rules? More so pessimistic with what the rules could be?"
"Stop stalling,Gaster. I simply want to tread lightly as I am attending to my business in this plain."
"My plain, Bilhelm.... "
"Your plain."
"Due to how I can't dare lay a finger on you, or infringe upon your work... at least not by me and my own hands... Once you have entered my plain, the rule goes the same from The Unknown 'Once you have entered, anything can and will happen. This universe pain can do as it wishes once one nor from this universal plain enters.' That is the rule... Bilhelm... very much like home..."
"...So... once I enter... I can be dragged into bigger situations? Out of my own will? Bigger situations, bigger problems... tied down a the possibilities, fates, and choices your universal plain brings to me?"
"Oh... Very much so...Bilhelm...heheh..."
"Mmm... I have heard many things... From YOUR universal plain... I was told how chaotic it can be... and how dangerous, broken, and consequential it can become... Alternate dimensions destroying and erasing each other... dimensions reenacting and rewriting themselves... All by your hand, your watchful eye."
"Heheh... indeed, Bilhelm.. heheh. I could only create, modify, and watch... I can't erase or interfere, not in person to be exact... I just love to see the results, I love to see it all tear each other a part... From it all, I always gain more knowledge from these causes and effects, Bilhelm. I know you are a man of knowledge too, surely you understand my perspective, hmm??"
"...I may be a man of knowledge, Gaster... but I am not man of chaos, disorder, and pain... What you are doing to this universal plain, it is of those things that I am not..."
"Oh? Yet, you still want to enter?"
"For business, Gaster... but now that you have shared this perspective of yours to me... I am going to have to settle on another reason to go until your universal plain."
"Another reason, Bilhelm? Heheh... and what would that be?"
"...I will put my debt into your universal plain, if ever I get involved with its many chaotic redtibitions and attributions. I am willing...to fix these wrongs you have enacted... do bring it upon myself to bring balence and peace to your universal plain you so damaged and tormented.... If ever I get involved, I will act."
"HeheheHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! So be it Bilhelm!!! Just know... I will always keep my eyes on you and your actions. Know that everything here has just as many consequences as your home... Do have a pleasant visit and business expansion here... I will see you soon..."
"Let us hope that the next time we meet, things will be different..."

Me sitting here thinking and realising “wow we as humans produce a lot of kinds of fluid.”
I don’t know if this is helpful for anyone’s writing butttt
Like i never really thought abt it before like
Tears, mucus, sweat, saliva, blood, urine, stomach acid, sebum (the oil from ur skin), bile, pus, vaginal fluid, semen.
And those are jsut the knee I know of!
Here are some ones I just learned about.
Cerumen - this is your earwax! There are 2 kinds, the sticky “wet” kind and then the “dry” kind. And there’s actually a genetic difference between them. The wet kind is more common in people with European and African heritage and the dry kind is more common in people of Asian and Native American heritage
Intertestinal fluid (tissue fluid) - coats the lungs to allow them to exchange oxygen.
Lymph - identifies bacteria and viruses and carries them to your lymph nodes
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) - surrounds the spinal cord and brain. Cushions nervous system.
Endolymph - fluid in your inner ear. This is crazy because you’ll never guess what this stuff does.
It helps you KEEP YOUR BALENCE. Tiny little hairs hold it in place in relation to gravity. The hairs detect its position and tell your brain how to stay on your feet.
MILK - I totally forgot humans can produce milk LMAO

so. it’s been a year. and i have some thoughts on crazy ex girlfriend. if you asked me like mid-season 2 or even in season 3, i would’ve described the show as criminally underrated and one that should be help up there w/ breaking bad, mad men, the wire, etc the “prestiege” tv -- but kind of based on not the finale but how it ended, i no longer feel that way.
first, there was the major issue i felt with constructing a connected plot. i consider the back half of season one through the first half a season three the “golden” era of the show -- and i dont think it’s a coincident that it coincides with the switch the show towards making rebecca get better. previously, teh formula of the show was how rebecca’s craziness and terrible choices rippled out to effect everyone around her, forcing them to change. additioanlly, there was always the narrative thrust of ‘marry josh chan’ -- the narrative during that golden period ALL built towards something! in season 2 every narrative thread tied and built up to the finale. seasons 3 and 4 often felt like because they were struggling with the format, they became less serialized. while the plot built towards events, thematically and narratively, the show was no longer using each up to build to a specific narrative point. it was spinning its wheels -- and im saying this as someone whose favorite episodes, songs and scenes were in season 3-4. i also want to clarify that i think the recovery format was absolutely the right choice and i am so glad and was so touched at many points in the narrative -- but it was like 80s elton john, a singles artist, instead of 70s elton john, an album artist (ik its an oversimp).
additionally, as the show moved into the later seasons it moved away from the realism that grounded it before (ie, money troubles, the genuine deep pain rebecca caused people -- like why did valencia (who is my favorite character!) get way more screen time processing how terrible rebecca was to her and then building that friendship than josh did? the side characters weren’t as well utilized and the narrative failed to fully reckon with how terrible rebecca had been at points. this is what i mean by realism -- showing rebecca losing or genuinely struggling or having set back or barriers to her recovery not just internally could’ve helped them graft the show onto a new structure that felt like it was all building to something like the earlier seasons. and i’m not even really complaining -- because i have so much respect for the show and what they did and how good it is, but i think the show went into “uncharted” narrative territory and as a result, didn’t balence all the balls it had managed in more familiar territory.

Sweet summer bris-Mr.Beats
** this became such a long and hard Project, that i have spent so many houres writing… it kinda became my baby! i wanted it to become so amazing, so i have written, rewrote and delited it embarrassingly so many times by now. so i have now decided to just post what I have.. ^smut^**
Jimmys shiney Brown hair was moving slowly in the Wind, it was almost mesmorising to watch as he was walking up to you. He swong himself onto the fence Next to you. His dreamy blue eyes looked Down into Yours as he brush away a few loose hairs form you poneytail. ‘’ i hope you don’t mind the guys tagging along to the camp out.’’ ‘’I don’t mind.’’ you said With a Moody. ‘’ Do you want to talk about it?’’ ‘‘Nah its fin but i wish i had a moment with you alone tho’’ you huffed as turned Your head. ‘’ Well that we can arrange! Lets go for a walk.’’
Walking Down the beaten path holding hands. the sun was shinning and you couldn’t stop yourself from looking up at Jimmy thinking how pretty he was. Suddenly Jimmy swung you around in his strong arms, throwing You of balence, lifting you up and then lying you Down carfully in the tall grass. This made you start laughing. ‘’ Jimmy what are you doing?’’ ‘’ I just want to make you happy (Y/N)’’ he smiled as he said. ‘’But Jimmy you make me happy every singel day’’
‘‘I bet i could make you even more happy right now’‘ Jimmy whispered as he bit his lips. You could see the lust in his eyes as he took a deep look in to Your eyes. As he laied ontop of you his warm breath was brushing against Your neck. you felt yourself holding Your own breath. To afraid to move, to afraid to ruin this moment. You let Your hands play With the long strands of hair in his neck. Jimmy was caressing inner thigh slowly and feathery. You sifted Your hands, trailing his jawline. ‘’ tell me everything you want me to do to you’’
He trailed warm long kisses from you colarbone up Your neck and stayed there awhile before he began to move Down to you boobs. At this point you started to moan. ‘’ pleas Jimmy, you are making me gooo crazy!‘’ you said in a begging kind of way.
Before you you could catch Your breath Jimmy kissed you softly with firm intensions. You felt Your back arche and Your fingers started to grabbe for his shirt. The kisses got more and more intense. You heaved for air. Pulling his shirt off, the few secondes you where parted.
Unbuttoning your own shorts pulling them down and the starting to unbotton jimmys pants, was your way of saying common hurry up. He grabbed the sides of Your pantis dragging them Down Your thighs, reaping them off. You opend Your legs for him, allowing him to enter.
You felt Your own puls hammer in your ears as he was gliding in and out slowly. A soft murmur escaped Jimmy.
Your fingernails scrathed deep into his skin and made small little red marks, he didn’t even flinch, he was so focused  on you to even notice . Your own body started to shack and you knew you could’t take it any more ‘‘Jimmy! JImmy! i can’t take it anymore!’‘ And suddenly you felt this euphoria rushing. Jimmy made a loud grunt as he came.

Why representation matters:
Now first of all let me begin by saying I know there have already been numerous well written essays on diversity in movies, books and tv shows and why it is so important. All of these essays mainly focused on themes such as racial diversity and LGBTQ+ representation in mainstream entertainment. While these are of course very important issues, I wanted to focus on a different kind of representation. I'm sure most of you have seen plotlines in popular tv shows such as Pretty Little Liars and gotham that touch on mental illness. The story usually goes something like this. The main characters either come into contact with evil sadistic villains who are plotting against them. The Villian exhibits outrageous psychotic behavior and eventually when the protagonists foil the villian, its revealed that they are mentally Ill and they are shipped off to the "looney bin". Now I want you to imagine how you would feel being 14 years old, diagnosed with a mental illness and being bombarded with this storyline over and over again. How would that make you feel? How are you supposed to believe in yourself when the world clearly doesnt? This particular stereotype is so harmful, not only to mentally Ill people but to the rest of the world as well. Most young people look to modern media and entertainment as examples for how to behave. Now I would like to bring up a tv show that I actually believe has decent mentally Ill representation. Legacies.
For those of you who are unaware, legacies is a spin off show of The vampire diaries and The originals. It features the children of a few popular characters from both shows. One of the main characters, Lizzie, has bipolar disorder. She clearly has trouble controlling her moods and maintaining a healthy balence especially when she is under a great deal of stress. This can also influence her powers. Her mood swings can cause her to sometimes be abrasive and even a little cruel to some people when she is in a bad place. Now I personally think this is pretty accurate for someone with a mood disorder. When we aren't feeling well we can lash out at others, attempting to release some of our tension. Of course people are allowed to disagree with me. That's fine. However, what I have a problem with is people using very discriminatory and demeaning language to describe her. People online discussing the character often use words such as "Bitch" "Evil" or "psycho" to describe her. The majority of the Legacies fandom is very harsh towards Lizzie and her behavior. It is very clear that most people aren't taking into account the fact that she has a mood disorder and what that might entail. It's also very sad to watch people attacking this character who is clearly trying her best, when I can see myself in her. It feels like a personal attack, and that isn't the only reason people should be mindful of their words. Fictional characters only exist to represent real people or at least parts of certain people. If someone is willing to be so openly hostile towards a fictional character then whose to say they won't use that same hostility towards real people who resemble them in terms of disabilities, race or sexual orientation. Most people believe that the mentally Ill are inharitly violent when this is actually completely opposite from the truth. We are more likely to become victims of violent attacks and situations. People love to be instantly hostile towards things that they dont understand.
So in conclusion, please be respectful and considerate.

I’m all caught up and presenting my August playlist just in time for September to end! Disco! Italo-pop! 90s gangsta rap! 3 hours worth of music for everyone!
Good To Me - THP: The most surefire way I’ve found to track down a great song you’ve never heard before is to look up every single sample on the Duck Sauce album. It has quite literally not failed me yet. This song is great, and being so used to the sped up sample in Goody Two Shoes this song sounds like the expanded chopped and screwed version to me which is even better.
Who Do You Love - THP: The other thing about THP is they’re extremely hard to search on Spotify because it thinks you’re trying to type ‘The’ and suggests 'The Beatles’ which is helpful.
Beleriand - The Middle East: I started rereading The Lord Of The Rings this month, and even got so deep in it that I started reading the Silmarillion for the first time and I suddenly remembered the time The Middle East wrote a song about Melkor and Angband and all that. Maybe the best Lord Of The Rings song I’ve heard almost exclusively for the drum work in the intro before it really settles into its Tolkein vibe.
Dead - San Fermin: I love this song but god I wish it were louder and more out of control. The sax sounds great but every other part isn’t nearly as turned up to 11 as it should be. The problem is that everyone in this band is such a professional they don’t know how to play like the maniacs this song deserves!
Tuesday Fresh Cuts - Bree Tranter: I’ve been looking up what all the members of The Middle East have done since they broke up and the best thing I’ve found is Rohin Jones writing music for a Dulux Paint commercial after the verse in Ninth Avenue Reverie about the guy who sniffs paint every night and dreams about being dead. Anyway as far as I can tell Bree Tranter is the one that’s had the most consistent and normal output since they broke up. This song is very much an ultimate night driving type song, except the lyrics are really not great but you can ignore that for how great it sounds, especially near the end when it really gets into a meditative state.
Ted, Just Admit It - Jane’s Addiction: Continuing my Jane’s Addiction phase, I really love this song. This is such a great brooding piece of music before it finally explodes into the declaration that sex is violent. Kind of a shame that it’s a serial killer song because he’s right about everything. Sex IS violent, the tv DO got them images, etc.
Fire Back About Your New Baby’s Sex - Don Caballero: I think this is probably Don Caballero’s most popular song, and with good reason. It’s among the most straightforward of their backward-ass songs and gives you a good grounding in how to understand the total chaos that is everything else they’ve done.
Ballad Of Circling Vultures - Pageninetynine: The entire last half of this song, when it slows down, is one of the best things I’ve ever heard. It feels like the entire mix begins to close in around you as it gets darker and darker before a door slams and you wake up somewhere else entirely.
You’ve Never Been Alone - Andrea Balency: I was watching this live video of Mount Kimbie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6co64HYurg and they’ve got like a full band now! They’ve been slowly expanding from a duo and I suppose it makes sense because their last album really sounded like a band playing in a room rather than two guys on computers. Anyway it turns out the woman in their band is Andrea Balency and this song of hers is very beautiful and you can see exactly why they asked her to join.
The Conspiracy Of Seeds - 65daysofstatic: I was going through Circle Takes The Square’s performance credits on discogs (very cool hobby) and found out they’re credited on this 65dos song and was shocked that I didn’t know that already. It feels like they pretty much split the song down the middle and did half each, which is great!
Spanish Sahara (Deadboy remix) - Foals: This song isn’t on Australian spotify as far as I can tell, so if you’re in the UK I think you can listen to this. Otherwise it’s on youtube for everyone here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk24ujPN4Lo This is probably one of my favourite pieces of music ever, it’s such a beautiful remix even though it’s not particularly far from the original. It just does the work of focusing the vibe down to a laser point. I love how mechanical every part of it is contrasting against the dreamy vocals and organ, until it almost feels overloaded with hats and clicks in the highest points before it focuses down again and introduces the bassline alone. Then the last section! The stabbing insistence of the synth driving the whole thing to a fever pitch.
T69 Collapse - Aphex Twin: I’ve never been huge on Aphex Twin because all his songs sound like you pressed the demo button on a keyboard and then turned the tempo way up but I really like this one, almost exclusively for the bassline the comes in in the second half after the big space-out breakdown. It’s groovy! It’s the most I’ve ever liked the evil man!
Kansas City Star - Kasey Musgraves: The Kasey Musgraves album everyone was going wild for didn’t really do much for me but this cover is so fantastic, the slight melody change she’s done to the chorus is such an improvement and really makes it soar. Also google is good because right now the 25th image result for 'kacey musgraves’ is a deviantart pic where someone’s photoshopped her to be extremely obese called Kollosal Katy. Not really related to the song but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Pyramids - Frank Ocean: A big group of friends and I went to karaoke a couple of weeks ago and the version of Pyramids they had didn’t even have the second half! If I can’t subject everyone to ten full minutes of me doing it badly then what’s the DAMN point?
Aqua - Eurythmics: I heard this song on NTS and was instantly in love with the lyrics. Don’t touch me, don’t talk to me, throw me in the water, watch me drown! It’s that simple!
gonk steady one - Autechre: I went and saw Autechre when they were here a few months ago and I’m still thinking about it because it was like a multiplayer dream. They insisted on total darkness and everyone just kind of stood still or sat down for the whole show in the dark while an endless wave of sound from another dimension washed over us all. Then eventually the music stopped and the lights came on and I never actually saw Autechre the whole time I was there. I’m still working my way through their fucking 8 hour long new album but this is an early highlight. I don’t know how to explain this but it sounds good. It sounds like music by and for aliens that we can listen to and understand a small part of.
Poor Kakarookee - Venetian Snares: I was listening to this song and thinking the other day there’s a certain subset of Venetian Snares songs that sound like that bit from Parks and Rec where Adam Scott is like 'could a depressed person do THIS?’ and is holding up his deformed little stop motion figure from the deformed little stop motion movie he’s making. This is absolutely one of those songs. It’s a great song but it’s one of those songs.
Future People - Alabama Shakes: For a long time the only Alabama Shakes song I’d heard was Don’t Wanna Fight because it was just so good I figured there was no need to go further, which it turns out was extremely wrong because this whole album is completely killer. I just can’t believe her voice. The album version is great but the live version really shows it off https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbR999N5MiALa
Mia Mania - Giani Morandi: I rewatched all of Harvey Birdman a couple of weeks ago and finally looked up what the song is in this clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xkhqce43mA because it gets stuck in my head all the time, and the only version I could find is this one with vocals which sounds even better!
Capriccio - Gianni Morandi: Then I dug deeper and started looking up the rest of this guy’s songs and totally loved it. There’s nothing better than digging around and finding what you think is some obscure artists before looking them up and finding out they’re incredibly famous and like the Italian Neil Diamond.
Parli Sempre Tu - Gianni Morandi: This is my favourite of his just for the insane pitch shifted vocal at the start, what an insane piece of sound for 1964! I’m desperate to know how they made it.
Forgotten Children - Mouse On The Keys: I suddenly remembered Mouse On The Keys the other day and thank god. They’re an instrumental band that’s two pianists and a drummer that looks like its jazz because of the instrumentation but is really more like post-hardcore in execution.
Can’t Get Right - Ghost-Note: I normally don’t go in much for this sort of drum clinic type music for musicians only but the central groove in this is just so good. It feels like two completely different songs playing at the same time, except if that sounded good. I found it because the bass genius Mono Neon played on it, watch the video and see if you can tell which one is named Mono Neon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVw1b4gVYrU Also one of the guys seems to be playing a vibraphone that is a midi controller which I have never seen before in my life.
Shoot Myself - Venetian Snares: Venetian Snares has such a great melodic sense and it feels kind of underappreciated just because of how much his percussion is at the forefront of every critical appraisal. In songs like this where the drums are more restrained you can really feel the melody and harmony shine through, the layers of cascading synth lines piling up louder and louder before returning to the jazzy organ near the end is just such a beautiful moment.
Bad Boy - Den Harrow: This song sounds like an 11 year old wrote the lyrics and I absolutely love it. The best and most sexy lyrics: “Some dress Valentino, others wear t-shirts to show what a shapely bust they’ve got.”
Summertime - Barney Kessel: Barney Kessel the jazz guitarist that I only found out about this month did a bossa nova album when bossa nova was the biggest thing in the world and it’s so so good. He also does some very interesting playing on it that’s a lot closer to surf rock and rock n roll than anything else I’ve heard of his. This is also a good example of that thing when Stereo sound was brand new where every single instrument is panned hard left or right which is a treat in headphones.
Slice Of Heaven - Dave Dobbyn: It’s kind of a shame that this song never really gets better than the intro but when the intro is this good it’s fine. I remember this song from when I was a kid because it’s on the soundtrack to New Zealand’s first ever feature length animated film, Footrot Flats which I watched a lot.
Sailin Da South - ESG + DJ Screw: The hardest part about putting any one song from 3 N Tha Morning Part Two on a playlist is they’re not designed for that and it sounds awful and cruel to cut them off like that. So really instead of listening to this song listen to the whole album and turn purple.
Right Action - Franz Ferdinand: I think Franz Ferdinand deserve better than the sort of one hit wonder status they’ve got, because they’ve got a lot of great songs and this is one of them, and probably the danciest summary of the Noble Eightfold Path I’ve ever heard.
The Thing That Should Not Be - Metallica: I have done zero research but to me the 80s feels like the decade when HP Lovecraft and the Cthulu mythos really hit the mainstream. Dungeons and Dragons and all that. Anyway apparently Cliff Burton was a huge Lovecraft fan and they would all read his stories in the tour van which is a funny thing to imagine. Metallica have five or six Lovecraftian songs and the bulk of them were written after Cliff Burton died which is sort of touching in a way. Paying tribute to your friend by invoking the nameless horror that sleeps in R'lyeh.
Waters Of Nazareth x We Are Your Friends x Phantom - Justice: Justice’s new album is so good because it’s sort of halfway between a remix album, a live album and a Best Of. It’s essentially a studio live album, or maybe just a live recording straight from the soundboard with no crowd noise. Either way it’s great and leads to incredible three way mashups of their best songs like this one.
Mr Ice Cream Man (feat. Silkk The Shocker) - Master P: I was thinking about how you don’t really hear about Master P these days, but according to the first result when you google 'richest rappers’ he’s doing fine with a net worth of $227 million, which is more than Eminem. So good for him. Even if his music hasn’t really lasted I’m sure his many, many business dealings will leave him in good stead for the rest of his life. I’m just going to copy and paste some phrases from his wiki article here because it’s truly ridiculous: “He has since parlayed his $10,000 initial seed capital investment into a $250 million business empire spanning a wide variety of industries” “As a businessman, Miller was known for his frugality and keeping business expenses down and profit margins high” “He has since invested the millions of dollars he made from his No Limit record company into a travel agency, a Foot Locker retail outlet, real estate, stocks, film, music, and television production, toy making, a phone sex company, clothing, telecommunications, a jewellery line, auto accessories, book and magazine publishing, car rims, fast food franchises, and gas stations.” “Miller also has his own line of beverages, called "Make ‘Em Say Ughh!” energy drinks" “first rapper to establish a cable television network.”
The Party Don’t Stop - Mia X: Anyway via Master P I found Mia X, who sings the hook on Mr Ice Cream Man, and her album is actually good as fuck for an 80 minute No Limit album, mostly because it’s so packed with guests (it feels like everyone else on No Limit is on here, including guys with great names like Mo B. Dick and Kane & Abel, but also Mystikal and Salt N Pepa are here!) that you never get tired of the flow, and the production is nicely varied too.
Shut Up - Stormzy: This is like Stormzy’s biggest song and I’m dumb as fuck because I haven’t heard it until now when I was listening to Functions On The Low and found out he used it as the beat for this song. What an absolute thrill to see this perfect beat back in the limelight thanks to the man bringing grime back to the limelight!
All N’s - Mia X: I wanna talk about the beat on this Mia X song because it’s incredible front to back. (Lyrically this song is fucking great, especially the chorus) but the vocal synth bass sound is just amazing, and the hook melody is the damn 'there’s a place in France where the naked ladies dance’ melody. Every part of it’s insane.
Milk - Kings Of Leon: I got into a real groove this month and learned how to play this whole Kings Of Leon album on guitar for some reason. So now I’ve got that knowledge. But I forgot just how incredible this song is. It’s a testament to how if the music is good enough and the performance is good enough the lyrics can be absolutely anything. By the time he says “she’ll loan you her toothbrush, she’ll bartend your party” I’m already crying.
