Can you talk more about the glamorous Korean girls, what look do they favor and what are they like?

I used the example abstractly—glamorous Korean students at UCLA might be very different from their counterparts at LSE!

The Koreans I know at my university are from very rich families, were born and raised in their home country, but came to the UK for Sixth Form and often also for lower senior school. They’re quite anglicised, and style themselves in a way that bridges the fashions between England and Korea. The girls in particular are more involved in student politics and other similar societies (business, law, debating, etc.) compared to some other nationalities, and tend to read degrees in the same sort of vein. They all tend to favour a similar look (think Kim Gyu-ri or Kang So-yeon over Song Jia), have quite obvious and extensive plastic surgery, don’t go in for much Korean pop culture, and have particularly curated Instagram accounts—although this last one isn’t limited to just the Koreans.

What were the BLs that took you by surprise last year? 

i won't lie, i wasn't surprised that i enjoyed kinnporsche, but to the extent that i did (and of course still do), that was kinda surprising. they had me paying to watch a livestream of gay™ the musical, and i'm not even mad. it was my first thai bl, so, oh lord, my standards were raised.

last twilight in phuket - controversial, but i think i prefer it to i told sunset about you (though itsay is so so good). i didn't know 13.43 mins could make me feel so much, but there we are, and i'm very happy to be in that situation.

What were the BLs that you felt a bit disappointed with last year? 

oh i have some very controversial opinions on this–

- there's one that everyone really loves that i didn't finish, thought it was trying to be bigger than what it was (if that makes sense), and just found it really... boring. it got to one plot line and i'd had enough– though i'm willing to give it a re-try because, granted, i was in a kinnporsche mourning period when it came out. im not even gonna name it because i swear everyone i follow loves it (welp-)

again, controversial, but i haven't seen this being talked about as much as the last one. i haven't seen s2, but oh my god, i'm sorry but i was so bored, and this was before kinnporsche so my standards weren't even insanely high, yeahhh

it wasn't *bad*, but the way everyone hyped up made me think it was gonna be something really special, yeah i was definitely disappointed

i'd been without a favourite show for a little while, which is so so unlike me. i tend to need something to consume me and kinnporsche just did that. first ep and holy fucking shit, *that* is what i'm talking about. i hadn't actually heard of it until an edit came up on instagram, and i instantly downloaded iqiyi, found ep 1 and 2 were out, binged those, and fell in love really

when i say it became my favourite show just from the first episode, i truly mean that. it was the biggest power move of a first episode and ughdhdh perfect <33

i've tried (and will continue to try) to convince my mates to watch it. i have been successful once with the whole show. a few of my mates just know vegaspete as KFCock, but yknow a win is a win, they are aware of their existence, which i'll gladly take.

- mafia, but *sometimes* make it wholesome. and then add a hearty dose of PAIN. perfect :D,, i know i've already said it, but i'll say it again it's consumed me, and i'm so grateful. i had some of the worst exams when it was coming out, and kinnporsche genuinely got me through each week, kept me smiling, made everything just a bit more bearable, and i am forever grateful for that.

strangers from hell

- what do you mean it's not a bl. of course it is. whatever moon-jo and jong-woo have going on is most definitely *not* heterosexual. also there was way more chemistry between those two than jong-woo and ji-eun. if you're looking for a comfort psychological thriller, this is it :D - i mean it's the most wholesome show i've ever watched, just two guys bonding over shared interests and falling in love (aww)

- on my knees begging someone to watch it– it's really pretty, made me cry, from a very small film company and eee i love it

After reading "Pixel Perfect" by Lauren Collins and "The Age of Instagram Face" by Jia Tolentino, I've been giving a lot of thought to how digital image editing has evolved and the impact it's had on the way we view beauty and self-worth. It's pretty wild to think about how someone like Pascal Dangin can completely transform a photo with his skills. What's really concerning is this idea of the "Instagram Face" – as if there's just one ideal version of beauty that we're all supposed to strive for, erasing our unique qualities in the process. It's kind of scary to see how platforms like Instagram fuel this by providing a constant stream of likes and comments that validate these unrealistic standards.

Na Coreia, ainda não havia desistido do seu sonho. Hello! My name is Y/N. I’m not really sure what to say and I don’t even know if you’ll read this, but here it goes.

I’ve been a fan for a long time, and I don’t regret a single moment. You captured my attention when I first watched your music videos. Your dancing is phenomenal, and you’ve inspired me to keep chasing my dreams of becoming a professional dancer. I’m sure I could never reach your level, but I managed to start a dance studio! It’s nothing big, but maybe that will change! Whatever happens, I just want to thank you for being the biggest inspiration in my journey.

I hope reading this will make you proud of yourself, for using your platform and abilities to bring hope to your fans, and maybe of me, for being able to get closer to my dreams because of you.

Yugyeom isn’t sure this is real. He reads the letter again, but it’s all the same. He’s used to praises, confessions, proposals, even, but being inspired enough to start a studio is a first. She’s telling him to be proud of himself, but he almost feels unworthy. He’s nothing special, yet here she is, commending him for her success. 

He laughs. Something ripples in his chest. He has to see her again, ask how her studio is going, if she’s well. The letter is too short, and he’s left with a bundle of questions. 

“Thank you. I’m not sure what I would do without you.”

He’s met so many fans and even gets familiar with a couple faces, but that’s it. It’s a busy life. But for whatever reason, he doesn’t want to forget Y/N.

Y/N wishes, more than anything, that relating to people were easier. 

She’d think to deal with her friends for two years would make her a professional, but her progress has been nothing but linear. They’re her colleagues—technically employees—but she doesn’t want to be alone. She has to be a good boss, a good teacher, and overall, a good friend. But God, are they exhausting.

They’re not terrible people and they have their moments, but she can’t find it in herself to care about Kim Soohyun starring in a new drama. It’s almost amazing how similar they are, like soulmates. It’s just a little unfair she wasn’t part of the package. 

“Y/N. Have you seen Royal Lover yet?” Sunhee asks.

Y/N takes a sip from her juice. She needs to come up with something fast. “That’s actually next on my list. I was planning to watch it later.” She’s going to regret this.

There’s nothing wrong with dramas. In fact, they’re great, but she’d like to watch them for herself at her own pace. They’re not exactly forcing her, but doing this is better than being excluded. This is how she finished five dramas in less than three weeks.

“Okay, okay, finish it as soon as possible! It’s sooo good. I cried at the end,” Areum says, and wipes a barbecue sauce stain on her shirt. She couldn’t care less about the mess, but she was fuming about Heechul and Momo’s relationship a minute ago. “Jia, what did you think about the ending?”

Jia, although busy on her phone, doesn’t waste a moment to reply. “All I’m gonna say for now is that I think it has one of the best endings in K-Drama history. We can text about it later, but we should stay quiet for now until Y/N finishes it.”

Areum shakes her head. “No, let’s text about it now!”

The rest of the lunch is quiet except for keyboard clicks and laughter. There’s no use getting their attention now. Y/N slumps against her wooden chair and sighs. Her eyes wander to a family in the indoor area of the cafe where they laugh at something the father says. She can’t remember the last time anyone listened to her like that. She looks back at the girls. 

Why can’t she be more like them? They’re weird, but they aren’t alone. They have people to talk to and connect with. Is there something she missed? Was there a handbook for social skills she never received? 

Why does she feel alone when they’re right in front of her?

The metal seat is cool against the bottom of her thighs, and she instantly regrets wearing shorts. It took her a few stops to get seated. Her legs were ready to give in to the fatigue, so she’s not sure if she should feel guilty for hurrying after the seat before a child could take it. 

His mother glares at her, and she wishes she could explain herself, that she’s a dancer and needs to sit down after a long day at the studio. But the child pouts and looks at her too, and it bites at her conscience. She checks the map above the doors. Her stop is two stations away. 

She rises from her seat with a sigh and takes their place in the center. They don’t even thank her, but she doesn’t blame them. She closes her eyes and focuses on Yugyeom’s voice playing through her earphones.

Bad days aren’t so bad when she has GOT7. 

When she gets home, she prepares a bowl of ramen and a glass of milk, and spends the rest of the evening watching Royal Lovers, already wishing for it to be over.

The gold lights cast a soft glow in the room, and it makes the event feel cozy. Dark red theater chairs fill the compact hall, most of them already occupied. He searches through the crowd and looks away as soon as he finds Y/N. She’s here. It’s difficult, but he tries to look at other fans and focus on waving hello. This is gonna be tough, he thinks.

There are camera flashes, conversations, and the boys at his side. The fan sign is open, and the first batch approaches. Everything is familiar. Everything is the same. 

Except he can’t wait to meet a certain fan.

Time is not in Y/N’s favor today. It’s too fast for her to process every second. She’s already finished talking to Jaebeom. Mark. Youngjae. 

There are too many words fumbling in her mind, she doesn’t even know what they are. The few she catches are too awkward to form coherent sentences. If only she could dance what she wants to say, but she would rather not make a fool of herself. 

Before she could realize, she’s standing before Yugyeom. 

“Welcome back!” He says and signs her album quickly. “Y/N, right? I read your letter from last time.”

Y/N tries to catch her breath. “You remember me? And you read my letter?”

He nods and takes her hands. His fingers clasp between hers, and he does this without breaking eye contact. Y/N’s heart races and her hands tremble. She tries to push every thought to the back of her head because there is no way this gesture could mean anything. He’s an idol. Fan service is part of the job, and clearly, he’s very good at it. 

“How’s the studio?” He asks.

“It’s steady. I could use more students, though. You know, with rent and everything,” she replies.

He nods. “That’s good. Just keep working hard, and it’ll be worth it.” He pauses for a moment before asking, “Do you have a letter today?”

Y/N’s heart beats a thousand times faster, and she hasn’t even had coffee. Why is he asking for a letter? Did he like the one she wrote? He did remember her. She didn’t even have to remind him of her name. Heat rises in her cheeks. If only she knew he’d want to hear more from her.

“Oh, I’m sorry. I was binging a K-Drama and forgot to write one.”

He looks down before he meets her eyes again. “That’s all right. Are you coming to the next fan sign?” 

She nods. “Yes! I’ll write you a letter by then!” She takes her hands away for a moment to pull bunny ears out of her bag. “This is compensation.”

Yugyeom lowers his head and lets her place it for him. When he looks up, a staff woman from behind places her arm between them before he could speak. His body droops as he releases a sigh. Time’s up. 

He takes her hands one more time and shakes them like pom-poms. “See you next time, Y/N. Fighting!” 

Y/N’s heart soars. Even as she faces the rest of the members, her mind replays her meeting with Yugyeom. His hands are gentler, and his smile is wider. It’s like he was genuinely happy to see her. If only she could return to the back of the line and talk to him for a few minutes more. 

Like a movie stuck on repeat, her memories are full of Yugyeom. She doesn’t care when people glare at her as she hums in the train, or when she almost hits a woman with her swinging arms at the sidewalk. 

She couldn’t be happier. And it’s all thanks to Yugyeom.

Y/N is sure her eyes are fried. 

They’re sore from the bright TV screen that illuminates the dark living room, which she knows was already a bad choice. She didn’t have the energy to turn on the lights when the sun went down. 

She wasn’t completely unproductive, though. On the coffee table is her laptop uploading a new YouTube video. It’s not a big channel, but the comments make up for it. It’s the only place, along with Instagram, where she feels like she has a voice. 

Reality, on the other hand, has a different idea. It’s where she has to watch dramas 3 nights in a row to satisfy girls who only talk to her because she’s their boss. The only voice she has around them is directions in the studio and forced opinions. 

She takes a deep breath and opens the group chat. 

Y/N: I finished Royal Lover! I give it a 7/10. But you’re right, Areum, that ending was really good! Made me tear up!

Even typing that was draining. 

Jia: Finally kkk

Sunhee: Sorry, we moved on to Children of the Sun. You should watch it!

Areum: SO!! GOOD!! It’s about a doctor and a soldier falling in love!! I’M CRYING!!!!

“Unbelievable,” she mutters.

Except it isn’t. They’re the type to jump onto the next band-wagon in a snap. She shouldn’t be surprised. She sighs and slams her phone on the couch. There is no way she’s watching Children of the Sun. What kind of title is that, anyway? It’s time to take a break from dramas. The girls might throw a fit, but it wouldn’t be the first time.

SURPRISE LIVE: OLOLOLOLO

Y/N laughs at the title. A change from the weight on her shoulders. Their noise fills the room, which she prefers over clashing swords and exaggerated sobs. Her shoulders relax, and she takes a deep breath. GOT7 salvaged her night. 

“Let’s read some comments,” Youngjae says, leaning closer to the phone. “Say hi to Brazil. Hello. Bambam, speak French.”

“Baguette.”

Y/N throws her head back laughing and almost kicks her laptop off the table. She places it on the other end of the couch before coming back to the stream. The live chat is rapid, but she types a comment anyway. Maybe today will be her lucky day. 

Mark takes the phone from Youngjae. “Yugyeom, someone is asking what you’ve been up to lately.”

Y/N almost drops her phone. That’s her question! She licks her lips and grips on the cushion as she leans closer to the screen. 

“Oh, I’ve been watching a lot of dance videos! I enjoy watching fans cover our songs. It makes me feel proud. Some of them are even better than us.” The members hum in agreement. “Guys, if you have any dance covers or any dance videos at all, tag us! They make us really happy!”

Bambam nods. “Don’t be ashamed! Even if you’re just a beginner, we’re here to support you. We’re a team, guys! Fighting!”

She doesn’t wait for the live to end. She runs to her bedroom and rummages through the messy drawers. There’s no time to waste. The words flow right out of her pen, and she doesn’t care if the message is messy. She doesn’t know how long it takes but the ache in her spine and hand tell her it’s been a while. 

“Don’t be ashamed!”

They’re right. Dancing is who she is. It’s everything she’s ever done, and all she’ll ever do until her bones don’t allow it. She did not start a studio to be ashamed. She did it to grow. GOT7 may not notice her videos under the infinite amount on Instagram.

But there is a certain member who might.

Hanbin was jealous? No.

He was lying? Of course.

His left leg was moved from top to bottom in place after seeing an article of rumors about Skyler and Kai. He snorted when he heard Kokobop in the background, looked up to see that they were putting the videoclip on the tv. He rolled his eyes before taking the control of the television and turning it off.

Junhoe, who was sitting next to him in the chair, looked at him with a frown "I was seeing that." He pointed to the tv.

"If you want to listen to music put youtube on your phone" He placed his right leg on his left knee, even with his leg moving from one side to the other. The one with light brown hair analyzed him from top to bottom before puckering his nose.

"What's the matter with you, hyung?" He took a better position on the couch "You're in a very bad mood lately".

"I'm fine" At that answer the younger let out a sarcastic laugh. He glared at him.

"Even you don’t believe that, hyung" He gave him a sly smile.

"Yah, it’s true, okay?" He patted his thigh before pulling his phone out of his pocket and concentrating on instagram, trying to ignore June's laughter.

Yunghyeong looked up when he heard the heels against the floor. The leader and Junhoe followed a few seconds later, finding a glam Jia and Bobby behind her, both talking.

"Wow" The middle of the maknae line swallowed at the sight of the girl so groomed while the younger of the Kims frowned at her outfit.

It was strange, they almost never saw Sky in high heels or with makeup off stage, she found those things uncomfortable, she preferred shoes and lightweight makeup. The brunette raised her eyes to find the three of them looking at her, she sent them a slightly uncomfortable smile for the extra attention.

"I'm glad I married you" Koo was still with his mouth open making Bobby roll his eyes but Skyler laughed.

"Thanks sweetie. I think the same” She winked before opening her bag and starting to look for something in it.

"Are you two going out?" Song pointed between her and Jiwon with the knife but the boy refused and point her out before grabbing a chair and sitting down.

"She's the one who will come out" He picked up a fried potato on the table. He sent her a look before smiling, showing his rabbit smile "With Kai~".

The older raised both eyebrows "Really?".

"Yeah, well, he called me and asked me out again" She snatched one of the potatoes from her best friend, who gave her a slap on the ass as a reprimand.

"That's great, Sky!" He exclaimed, bringing both hands to his chest, almost looking like a proud mother. The thought made her smile with amusement "This is your fourth date, right?”.

"Yes" She sighed with a small smile on her face causing both elders to exchange glances.

"I'm sure he'll soon ask you to be his girlfriend" After that comment they heard a snort from Hanbin, the three of them turned around to see him still with his eyes glued to his mobile and with Junhoe looking at the uncomfortable scene.

Skyler frowned. "Something wrong, Hanbin?"

"No, nothing” The hint of a sarcastic smile could be seen in the shadow his cap provided.

Jiwon tensed his jaw and Yunhyeong sighed, fed up with the immaturity of their leader, which was something quite usual for a few months. The boys had no idea what had happened between them but they could deduce that something had happened since last year they were starting to be friends again but suddenly they were treated like the dog and the cat again. Bobby, Jinhwan and Junhoe tried to get information out to Skyler but she didn’t want to tell them anything, worrying them even more.

"I'd say something bothers you" Skyler was tired of this.
