Happy Pride 2024!!!

So I decided to make Fanart for Pride Month after all. After all I'm a part of the Comunity myself.

You might have noticed that there are a few Lgbtq+ Characters in Ages of Ruin already but these two might have slipped under your radar, which is why I wanted to showcase them here.

Kiara is easy to miss since Aroace is not the most noticeble orientation to begin with, unlike Maxwells and Shooting Stars homosexuality. Now of course with the way Reproduction works for Pokemon in my Au (see this post) sex isn't really a thing for them, but I decided to lable Kiara as aroace anyway since it's also my orientation and not many people know it even exists.

Now Dune might be the bigger surprise here and that could be because it wasn't originally planed this way. But some might have noticed that before she evolved I had used a male Eevee as her character art (as seen here). This was a mistake on my part as I didn't know that eevees had a male and female form. But when I noticed I decided to just roll with it. I will make a post detailing how gender works in my Au at a later point for now know that Dune is infact Trans female.

Ages of Ruin, Ch. 5, the Intruders Might, 2

Dune gulped heavily, she looked at Dos. “Does that include your, …?” she didn’t want to finish, but Dos could probably gather the rest. He just nodded and looked away. Kuro addressed Yukio, “So, the plan is to cross this rift and look fro them?” he asked. Yukio swayed his head, “Well kinda. At least we hope to find clues about what happened.”

Kuro looked skeptical, “You know their most likely just dead, right. They fought something that could match the Old ones and didn’t return, what more evidence do you need?” Dune shot Kuro an angry gaze, sometimes he could be really insensitive and it bothered her every time. He avoided her gaze and looked down in shame, but the damage was done. Dos looked devastated.

Yukio shook his head, “You really can’t understand why we might want to hope that this is not it?” he retorted. Then Dos said quietly, “Also the Old Ones can’t be dead, otherwise reality would fall apart all around us this very minute. The world can’t exist long without them.” Lilly chimed in to confirm, “Very true, also we should consider that time sometimes flows differently in the other planes.”

Kiara tilted her head, “I read about that in a book, but I thought this only affected the Crucible and the Distortion.” she questioned Lilly. Kuro chuckled, “You read a book? And here I though you might not even know how to.” Kiara pouted, “I know I give off brawn over brains vibes, but I did get an education in Kanto City, everymon did.”

Dune chimed in to take Kuros side, “Still you always seemed more into adventure then science.” Kiara looked a bit embarrassed, “Well yeah, and I am, but I did have a soft spot for the other planes and cosmology.” she admitted, “Many of my friend commented on how out of character that seemed for me.”

Dos raised his voice and interrupted the rest. “Are you done then, or do you want to stand out here in the open a while longer, to see if any hollows find us?” The group looked down and Dune felt shame inside her. This really wasn’t the time for petty banter. Yukio tampered his partner, “We didn’t come her just to see if the Legends are still alive on the other side.” he explained.

Dos nodded, “We rather want to check what has happened,” he added, “Don’t you think it’s strange? If the gods had won, they should have just come back and if the intruder had won, you’d think it had started to devour our word by now.” Dune nodded slightly, these assumptions sounded reasonable. And suddenly she understood what Dos and Yukio wanted to find out.

“Neither of these outcomes has happened though!” she exclaimed. Yukio nodded, “And so that raises the question. What did go down over there.” The Group exchanged glances, Dune could see that they where now asking themselves the same question. “Then why didn’t you go sooner? Or did you only recently find this rift?” he questioned.

Yukio let out a deep sigh and Dune could guess the answer. “You wanted more monpower, right?” Shooting Star formed her thought into words. Yukio smiled at him, “I guess that was rather obvious.” he admitted, “But yes, who can say what awaits on the other side. It would certainly be reassuring to have more fire power on our side.”

Dune could understand that sentiment. Then Flake shifted on her back, where she thought he had been sleeping and asked a question that Dune could see all of them had on their mind, “Why us though?” Dos looked at him, “Because you took on five highs and lived to tell the tale.” he answered straight away, “I heard you little one even took down one of them yourself.”

Flake looked flustered, “That was probably just luck. It’s barrier was probably close to breaking anyway.” he mumbled, but Dune could see how proud he was of that achievement. Dos tilted his head, “Maybe, but you never know with glitches. Your kind has very strange abilities.”Yukio turned to the Group, “Now that you know our intentions, will you help us. We could use your strength.”

They all exchanged looks. Shooting Star was the first to nod and Kiara said, “Helping with stuff like this is why I left the city in the first place.” Dune also nodded, “You can count on me.” she said. With that Dos looked over to Kuro, “I will go where ever Dune goes.” The Umbreon stated. Dos nodded, “Then we should get going, follow us and keep you fusion moves ready just in case.”

Dune exchanged looks with Kuro and Kiara, “What are fusion moves?” she asked. Dos looked back disbelieve on his face, “You got to be kidding me!” he exclaimed.

Ages of Ruin, Chapter 5, the Intruders Might

As Dos concluded his story silence fell over the Group. Dune herself was speechless and here she had though that her own life had been chaotic. These two Mews had been through so much a well. Though she supposed that wasn’t as surprising as both of them where much older the her, but even Shooting Star seemed at a loss for words.

After a while Yukio broke the silence, “Well, we heard your story and you got ours.” he looked around, “You all look exhausted, so we should probably get a short rest and then move on.” Kuro looked at the Mew skeptically, “Why the rush? I thought this place was safe.” he asked, “Also you still haven’t told us about the Mythicals. You told us that you knew what happened to them.”

Yukio sighed. “This place specifically is safe yes. Hollows can’t enter this space.” he looked directly at Kuro and Dune could hear the weight in his next words. “But we’ll have to leave at some point and this place only has one exit. Do you see where I’m going with this.” Kuro nodded slowly and Dune understood as well. The Hollows couldn’t get to them here, but they could wait. The longer they stayed here the more chances for the hollows to set an ambush.

So they decided to rest. Since hollows couldn’t enter they didn’t even bother to have a guard and Dune didn’t even remember when the last time was she slept so well. In the morning they quickly broke camp and carefully left the sanctuary. Dos and Yukio where up front and Flake went last. The two Mew looked all around, then gave the all clear. Dune heard Star mumble, “So we’re finally lucky for once.”

They walked along a snowy forest path. Dune thought back, when they had first arrived up north she had thought this landscape stunning. But now, months later, she could not see the beauty any longer. The bare trees and the snow gave little to no cover and the lack of food was also a problem. Even Flake that was walking slightly behind seemed to have lost interest in snow, he just eyed the trees around.

She slowed a bit to let him catch up. “You alright sweet pea?” she asked. He looked at her and for the first time Dune saw actual fear in them. “I don’t like this forest, it feels like there could be hollows everywhere.” Dune nuzzled him and tired to reassure him, but for the first time she questioned if maybe she should have let him go with Maxwell, to a save place.

Dos seemed to agree with her doubts as he suddenly addressed her. “Why did you bring a child on a journey like this in the first place. Was there no place save you could have left him?” Dunes doubts where immediately replaced with anger, “Well excuse me, but have you considered that this is none of your business?” Dos scoffed and looked away, but Yukio gave him a disappointed look.

The Kuro chimed and cheerfully declared, “Well, last time we left someone important to us out of our sight, they died shortly after, so there’s that.” Now Dos looked actually embarrassed and Yukio just shook his head at him. Probably to switch topics he began to talk, “Well regardless, we did promise you to tell you about the missing Legendaries, so how about we get to that?”

At this point the trees cleared and they stood in front of a cliff. Right in front of the drop was a strange orb of pure blackness. Dune noticed her mother shuddering and got worried. Yukio spoke, “First I want to apologize. When we said we knew what happened we might have exaggerated a bit.” Kuro fixated him, “What do you mean by that?” he asked.

Dos pushed Yukio back slightly and explained, “We know where they all went ten years ago, but we don’t know what happened after or why they haven’t come back.” he grimaced as he looked over the cliff, “Though I do have a few Ideas, most aren’t nice though.” Shooting Star pushed forward. “Well where did they go then? He asked, he looked very impatient.

Yukio sighed and gestured at the black Orb in front of them and again Lilly shuddered “Well that’s why we came here, this is a Void Breach and as the name says it leads into the Void the plane that connects all other dimensions.” he explained, “Ten years ago most Legendaries and Mythicals went there to assist the great Old ones in fighting an Intruder to our Word.”

He paused as if he didn’t want to finish his sentence and Dune shivered as he finally concluded, “And none of them have returned since.”

Ages of Ruin, Echoes from the Past, 9

The first Mew, Dos, looked up to the second Mew, Yukio, with clear annoyance. Dune could tell he wasn’t happy about how the situation panned out, but at the same time he couldn’t really yell at his friend for saving them. Dune hoped they were friends at least. Yukio on the other hand looked down on the group with a jovial smile. He was clearly pleased with his timing.

As Kiara recovered from the shock, she turned to the Mew in the sky and Dune could hear her say. “Anima, that was close. If it hadn’t been for you I might be dead right now.” Yukio bowed his head a little and replied, “Always happy to help.” Meanwhile Kuro still scanned the surrounding area. “Were those all of them?” he asked the Mews. Dos shrugged and Yukio explained, “I took out two more on my way here, but I don’t know how many were there to begin with.”

Dos looked grim as he said, “So there were more than eight, still that should have been all then.” Yukio nodded, “I didn’t spot any more while flying over the trees either.” Kuro visibly calmed a bit as he replied, “Then we can probably relax now.” then he looked at the two Mews and said, “Anyways I’m surprised to run into two Mews out here, Star told us Mythicals were quite rare these days.”

The Mews looked at each other. “Yeah that checks out,” they mentioned, “We haven’t run into any of our kind since the day without sun.” Star nodded, “Same here, after that it got quiet.” Kuro looked worried, “Enigma said the same thing and even Seraphore, …” he paused and looked around baffled, “What happened on that Gaia dammed day to screw up the world this much?”

Dunes group fell silent after that remark. Hadn’t they tried to answer that question from the very beginning. Now truth be told at first they had only wondered why Eevees could no longer evolve, but since then the more they discovered the more confusing and severe the situation looked and there seemed to be no answers in sight. But the Yukio cleared his throat.

“We might not know what exactly happened on that fateful day, but we do know what happened to all the mythicals.” he informed them. Star and Kuro snapped around, “Wait, what?!” the exclaimed simultaneously, “Well, tell us then!”. “Well,” Yukio started, but Dos interrupted, “How about you first tell us who you are and what you’re doing here. This information shouldn’t be shared with just anymon.” he said with a side glance at Yukio.

Shooting Star looked angry, “You mistrust us?” he asked, “After we helped you fight of these hollows.” Dos shrugged, “I’m just being cautious, the Intruder is cunning.” Dune looked at Kuro then back at the Mew, “The Intruder?” they both asked. Yukio nodded, but Dos said, “Look we’ll tell you more about ourselves too. This is just a simple precaution.”

Star exhaled sharply, “Very well then, but we should probably go to a quieter place, this is along story.” Dos and Yukio exchanged a glance and then nodded, “In that case follow us, we know the perfect hideout.” Kuro looked skeptical, “And why should we trust you?” he asked. “You shouldn’t,” Dos replied, “but you outnumber us, so you should be able to afford to be less cautious.”

Now Kuro looked at them with outright suspicion, Dune could feel the tension in his gaze as he replied, “Well, then don’t expect me to take my eyes of you, ‘Mew’.” Shooting Star also looked worried, but in the end they followed the Mews, to presumably their lair. They arrived at a shining rift in the air, it had four points and practically radiated with divine energy. Dune recognized it from Seraphore.

“A divine Sanctuary” Star exclaimed, “That is certainly a choice for a hideout.” Yukio chuckled, “Well the entry might be hard to miss, but since this rift is directly connected to Azazels realm, no Hollow can enter it unharmed.” Dos nodded in affirmation, “It’s perfect really. Probably one of the only truly save places around.” Star scoffed, “Well, I guess we’ll just have to take you word for it.”

They headed inside and found themselves on a gorgeous field of flowers, with a few trees strewn around. There was a spring in the center and a small creek flowed from it into a tiny orchard. It was truly a stunning sight and Dune had to stop for a while to take it all in. When she snapped back to reality, Dos had prepared a small camp next to the spring and gestured them to it.

“So now that were safe, how about you tell us that story of yours.” He said and while still weary, the group sat down and started their tale. The two Mew listened and Dune became aware, that this was already the third or fourth time she had told this story. Who knew that her life would someday become this interesting. She could have lived without it in hindsight.

When they finished, Dos sighed and summarized,” So let me get this straight, You met Seraphore. One of you died and came back. You’re currently traveling with a reaper, you have a glitch in your group and two of you are Champions on top of that.” Kuro nodded, “That about sums it up.” he replied. The Mew paused, “And now your searching for the ‘last human’ and that’s why you came here?” Dune nodded this time.

Yukio and Dos looked at each other, then smiled. “Well, today’s your lucky day then,” Dos exclaimed, “Because you’re standing right in frond of him.”

Ages of Ruin, Echoes from the Past, 8

Before she disappeared into the brush she shouted a quick “Follow me.” over her shoulder. And Dune and the rest ran after her fast. A bit into the forest they reached a trail and Lilly stopped, she looked around on high alert and Dune knew she tried to pinpoint the location of the energy she had felt. So Dune focused herself to see if she could feel anything, but the forest seemed empty.

Shooting Star however was different. He hovered up to Lilly and said, “I think I feel the same energy as you have. Their close.” Lilly nodded and looked around, “But they seem to be moving and fast I can barely locate them.” Suddenly Flakes ears perked up and he looked into the trees, “I think something is coming our way.” he whispered. Dune followed his gaze and saw something move between the trunks.

The rest of the Group followed their example and the next moment a Mew came crashing through the foliage. It looked a bit strange for a Mew, but from the pictures that Dune had seen in one of Kuros books it could be no other Pokemon. The Mew stopped when it saw them and then looked at Star and Lilly specifically. “So I wasn’t imagining things.” it said.

The Mew and Star stared each other down for a while, then without warning the Mew swung around and fired an Aura Sphere at a Hollow that was just emerging out of the trees. “I would love to talk,” the Mew scoffed, “but as you can see I quite busy right now. So if you want to help a brother out that would be greatly appreciated.”

At this moment a second Hollow appeared and the Mew fired a thunderbolt at them. Star joined them in the air and gazed into the woods. “How many are after you?” Lilly asked from the ground. The Mew looked down, “It’s a smaller group,” they replied, “There were eight I think, but I already took out four, soo….” Dune was stunned, “Four” she yelled, “We had trouble facing that many as a group.”

The Mew looked at her arrogantly, “Well that doesn’t surprise me much,” it replied while blocking another attack of the Hollow. Star then took it out with a Meteor Mash. The Mew continued, “You look to be around late 50 maybe early 60 in Level. I’m Level 100 and I always separate them and then take them out one by one.” they explained, “Also these are just lesser, I would not be trying that with highs.”

Now Dune was confused, “Lesser, Highs?” she asked. The Mew nodded, “Yea some Hollows are stronger then others. It has something to do with their age I think, …” they explained. But they were interrupted by the next hollow jumping out at them. This time Lilly intercepted them with a protect and then the Mew fired another Aura sphere. “Pests.” it mumbled.

Lilly explained in its stead, “You can differentiate them by the ability to ‘speak’.” she stated, “Lessers can’t ‘talk’.” Dune paused, as the explanation sank in. “Wait, but that would mean the Hollows that attacked us by the ravine were all higher.” she exclaimed. Lilly simply nodded. The Mew now looked impressed, “You ran into a group of highs and you lived. Impressive”

Shooting Star replied, “Yeah, there were five of them. We managed to take one down and weaken the others before they overpowered us. Luckily Lilly arrived after that and took down the rest.” The Mew looked at Dune and the rest. “I would like to take back what I said earlier, struggling against a high is nothing to be ashamed of. That fact that you survived at all proves that you’re stronger than you look.” he said. To Dune it almost sounded like a compliment.

“You were especially impressive,” he said to Lilly, “taking out the remaining three even if they were weakened.” Dune saw that Lilly smiled, but she corrected the Mew nonetheless, “I didn’t actually do much. Flake over there took out the first one and I managed to catch the second of guard. After that it was a simple 1v1 and I was at full power, while my enemy was weakened.”

The Mew looked surprised again, “That Eevee took out a …, you know what never mind, we can talk about that later.” They looked around, “Now where is the rest of them?” The group looked around, but the trees were silent. Dune wondered if the other Hollows had fled to get reinforcements, if they even did that, but her thoughts were interrupted.

Another hollow burst trough the underbrush. This one was a large Ursaring and they had come from the other direction as the previous attackers. As a result it had caught the Mew of guard and while it was still turning the Hollow prepared to attack Kiara who was standing closest to it. But before the Hollow could lower its paw it was hit by five Icicles that came raining from the sky and pinned it against a tree.

Shortly after it was hit by the thunderbolt the Mew had charged, closely followed by Stars Meteor Mash and the Hollow dissolved into black smoke. “Close call.” the Mew murmured, as a second Mew came down from the sky. This one at least had the same color as the ones from the books, Dune noticed, but it was missing the long Tail instead having a short tuft of fur.

The first Mew looked up, “Yukio. I thought I told you to wait for me at the Rift.” it said to the second Mew. But Yukio shot back, “How about a thank you for saving my but instead, huh Dos?”

Ages of Ruin, Echoes from the Past, 7

After Kiara had woken, the group broke camp quickly and got back on the road. After all, the ambush of the hollows had interrupted their search for the last Human. Though now Lilly lead the way instead of Kuro. He and Dune were following close behind though, while Shooting Star hovered behind them filling Kiara in on the stuff she had missed.

Dune looked at her Mom from behind. It was strange seeing her in this new body, after all she’d been a Leafeon her entire life, but she was way more grateful to have her back. Kuro was talking with her. “So this Zero send you to search for the last Human as well?” he asked Lilly, and she nodded, “And then once you found them you were supposed to find us?” Again Lilly nodded.

“That’s the gist of it.” she confirmed. Kuro scanned her intensely, “So you found them already?” he asked. Dune paused and thought that Kuro was right. If she had come find them that must mean she found the Last Human already. Right? But Lilly shook her head, “I have good intel of where they might be, but I haven’t looked into that yet.” she clarified.

Kuro tilted his head, his eyes narrowed, “Why not?” he asked, “That was your job after all.” Lilly nodded, “Yes, it was. But when I came back to this dimension to start my search, I noticed that your group was more or less on the way from my most promising search location.” she began to explain, “So now I had the choice. I could either look for the human first and the get you if I found them. Risking that you’d have already moved by that time.”

“Or I could take a slight detour to pick you up and take you along on my search, even if I might not find the human at the specified location.” Lilly laid out her reasons. “And good thing I decided on getting you first, or there might not have anybody left to get later.” she added. Dune could her she was clearly annoyed at Kuros harsh questions and she wondered why he seemed so hostile.

At Lilly’s last remark Kuro shifted his head away and looked down. Dune could tell he was embarrassed and for good reason. If Lilly hadn’t shown up when she did, the hollows would have likely killed them all. “Why do you seem so hostile in the first place?” Dune wanted to know, he seemed so out of character. Kuro gave her a bittersweet smile, “Probably because this still seems to good to be true.” he said.

“The Lilly I knew my entire Life was a gentle and hard working Leafeon who always put her duties for the clan and her family first.” he elaborated further, “It just seemed so out of character for her to come look for us first, instead of fulfilling her duty.” At this Lilly gave a slight chuckle. “I was like that wasn’t I?” she reaffirmed, “But Kuro, time changes you. We’ve all been through a lot since that time”

She smiled at Dune and said softly, “The Dune I knew from the clan was an outgoing and impulsive little girl. Always searching for adventures.” Dune though back, yeah that sounded like her. “The Dune from back then never looked back on her mistakes,” Lilly continued, “and yet her experiences of the last years made her question if bringing her very own son into this world was a good Idea.”

Now Lilly looked at Kuro and Dune saw that warm smile she had given them so many times in the past. “The Dune from back then would have never done such a thing. But that’s how life goes, it changes you.” she said and Kuro nodded slightly. And Lilly doubled down, “Yet she is still Dune, isn’t she? At least she still has her old bravery, I noticed that when she stepped in between me and that hollow even though she was in way worse shape than I was.”

Dune blushed slightly and Kuro snickered, “You’re right. And she also takes compliments about as well as back then.” he necked her. Dune saw Lilly smirk, “Well and you are still just as head over heels for her.” she necked him, “Some things just never change, right Ro?” Dune flinched when her mom used her old nickname for Kuro and he blushed and fell back to hide behind Dune.

Lilly laughed out loud and yelled, “I always knew you two would end up together, you were so cute as children.” Then she lowered her voice and turned to face Dune and Kuro. Dune saw the emotions in her eyes. “In all seriousness though. Please take good care of my daughter Kuro, she is my pride and joy.” Kuro looked back and nodded, “I’ll do my best, even though I already failed once.” he replied.

Dune stepped up, “I think you did a splendid job so far. In the end I’m still here right?” she reassured him. He teared up, “Was that really my doing though?” he asked back. “It was,” Dune affirmed, “You carried me to that sacred tomb after all.” Lilly nodded in agreement and Kuro said sorrowful, “Well I just wish I had been a bit faster.”

“Me too.” Lilly added, then she stopped and looked around. Her eyes darted rapidly between the trees and rocks. “This energy, … feels familiar.” she said, then she ran into the underbrush.

AoR, Echoes from the Past, 1

Dune laid next to Kuro and watched him worried. After the battle her Mom had brought them all to this grove deep in the forest. She said it was save and something about magical barriers. Dune was worried. With the exception of her and Flake none of her friends had woken up since the battle. She knew they were hurt badly, but still they has to recover sometime right.

Dune put her head on her partner side and listened, his heartbeat and breath were so weak. She called out, “Mom, he doesn’t seem to get better at all. What if he’s dying?” she said. Her mom, who was currently checking on Shooting Star turned to her. She smiled, “Don’t worry sweety, he’s still weak but he’ll get better.”

Dune was to scared to leave it at that, “How can you know? To me he doesn’t look like hes recovering.” Her moms eyes drifted to the far and she suddenly looked incredibly sad, “I know because I’m a reaper. It’s my job to guide lost souls to the after life, if he was dying I could tell in a glance, that way I could stay to make sure his soul passes on after the fact.”

Dune thought about that for a while. “What is a ‘reaper’. The hollow mentioned that two, but I never heard of such a Pokemon.” for a moment her mom seemed lost in thought again, then she answered, “That’s because Reaper isn’t a Pokemon but more of a job description. We are the champions of Anima, goddess of death and rebirth. And we help her with her job of keeping the cycle stable, by guiding souls that can’t reach the afterlife on their own.”

A thought popped into Dunes head, “But if that’s true, what about Ghost-type Pokemon. I thought those came from souls that couldn’t move on” Her mom nodded, “Well yes, that is true. However not every lost soul turns into a ghost, but sometimes we don’t get to them in time. And additionally Ghost-types don’t go against the cycle. They’re a natural way of reintegrating lost soul into the cycle.”

“You’re a Ghost-type now right,” Dune asked, “does that mean you died at some point?” Now her mom smiled again, “No, I simply evolved. You see after the attack on the clan, I stumbled into a Void breach, which made me de-evolve back into an Eevee. Then later I evolve again, but this time into the Ethereon I am now.”

At this point Flake entered the grove. He looked around, then fixated the Ethereon, “Lilly? Have Dad and aunty Kiara still not woken up?.” he asked shyly. Lilly smiled back at him, “Oh, Flake. I told you you can call me grandma if you like.” she paused, “But no, unfortunately they are still asleep.” Flake looked away, “Oh, ok.” then he looked embarrassed, “And you don’t look that old to me, it doesn’t feel right to call you grama.” he whispered.

Dune smiled at her son, he was so cute sometimes. Honestly, if it weren’t for him she might have gone mad with worry a while ago. Which reminded her of Kuro, she wasn’t quite convinced of what her mom had said. After all, she had been hurt probably just as bad, but she was back on her feet already. She said as much to Lilly, but she froze up as she said that and tear welled up in her eyes.

Dune was shocked at that reaction, “Mom?” she asked, “Did I say something wrong?” Lilly shock her head, “You just reminded me of something unpleasant.” she caught her gaze, “You’re fine, because short of destroying you body or killing Shooting Star, there isn’t much that could kill you right now.” She paused, the continued, “After all, you can’t really kill what’s already dead, right?”

Now it was Dunes time to freeze. Flake as well looked shocked, “But, … Mom is alive right?” Lilly shook her head, “Only in the spiritual sence.” she looked Dune directly in the eye, “You probably haven’t noticed, since you were so worried for Kuro. But since the battle with the hollows, your heart hasn’t beaten even once and you only breath when you want to speak.”

Dune didn’t know what to say, she caught Flakes gaze, he wispered, “I thought it was just to weak to hear.” He looked at his Grandma, “But the how can she …?” he clearly didn’t know how to finish that sentence. But apparently Lilly had understood him anyways. “It’s impossible to bring a Pokemon back to life. Only Anima could pull of such a feat. What Seraphore did was bringing back her soul and then binding it with their own life force. Later that was replaced by Stars. She isn’t living on her own Energy right now, if she were she would have succumbed to her wound a long time ago. She lives because of Stars energy and if he were to die, so would she.”

She paused and looked at Dune with a deep sadness in her eyes and said, “Unlike Ghost-types, you are outside of the cycle right now. That’s the only reason I found you.”

I'M BACK. Finally, how can one move take this long?

Then again, I would have posted last week, but unfortunatlymy sceen broke right after the move and the only replacement was on the other side of the contry with my parents.

Well now it's with me and I can finally work on this series again. Oh how I missed that.

Now we should mostly return to schedule, with a short break between christmas and new years.

Anyway, Chapter 4 now beginns for real and as the Title suggests this one will dwell a lot on past event's. There will be a few big lore drops, probably and we shall learn what happend to Lilly the now Ethereon, between this Chapter and the prolouge.

AoR, Forgotten Paths, 10

Did I die?, This was the first thought that came to Dunes mind as she came to. It was closely followed by pain all throughout her body. When she had died last time there hadn’t been any pain, so she was likely still alive. Next she tried to move her body, but the pain was to intense so she stopped. She listened it was quiet around, Did the fight end? she asked herself.

She tried opening her eyes next. It was difficult as she felt so tired, but in the end she managed. What she saw let the remaining blood in her body freeze up. Directly in front of her stood Flake shielding her from the hollow Absol that stood only a few meters further away. All the fur on his tiny body stood on end and all muscles seemed tense to the point of bursting. From his throat rumbled a surprisingly deep growl.

“Not a step forward!” he probably wanted to sound intimidating, but Dune could hear the fear in his voice and likely so did the Absol. The hollow grinned and stepped closer, Dune tried to get up but her legs refused to work. Only now did she notice the rather big puddle of blood she was laying in. That would explain why she was so cold, she thought, but at least she was conscious.

“Flake.” she whispered, her voice was almost non existent but he had heard her. He spun around and looked at her with wide eyes. “Mom,” he whispered back and Dune could hear his relive, “You’re okay.” She responded with a weak chuckle, “I wouldn’t go that far, but I think I’ll live” she replied. Her son pressed his head against her side and she could hear him purr.

But it seemed the Absol wasn’t willing to just be ignored, because now it rushed forward to give Dune and Flake the finishing blow. Dune tried to yell a warning but her voice was still to weak and when she tried to get up the pain rushed through her body again, so that she collapsed back to the ground. But being right next to her, Flake had noticed his Mothers movements and spun back around.

Dune could hear another growl leave her sons throat, but the Absol was already so close what could a Level 25 Eevee possibly hope to achieve against a hollow. But Flake was not about to die without a fight, as he blocked the Absols charge with protect. Dune could feel the Energy rush throughout his body as he readied his next attack. “Stay. Back!” he yelled, as a bunch of Stars formed in a Swarm around him.

Dune hadn’t known that he knew Swift, but as the attack triggered something seemed weird about it. She knew swift and the Stars launched by it normally had an almost pure white hue, but these Stars had unsettling black spots and they also jerked around their launch path instead of flying straight. They reminded Dune of the discoloration on Flakes head and they felt wrong somehow.

The Hollow tried to dodge, but as Swift never misses the attack just followed it’s movement and made contact regardless. And to Dunes and the Hollows surprise it had a massive Effect, she could see the shock in its eyes as the attack ripped right through it. Flake seemed just as surprised as the Absol was knocked back and before its body had time to hit the ground it faded into nothingness.

The attack flew onward to hit the remaining two Hollows as well, but as they had just seen their ally be one shot they blocked it with protect. The Ninetales growled and words came to Dunes mind again as it ‘spoke’, “What… How did you do that.” Dune watched carefully, she could see Flake shivering, but his voice sounded firm as he said, “And I’ll do it again, back off.”

Now Dune finally managed to get to her feet. She assessed the situation. Kuro and Kiara lay motionless only a few meters from her, Shooting Star lay a bit further in a small crater. The Ninetales had stood above him before it had shifted its attention to Flake. Dune still felt weak and her body was shaking all over, but she was determined to protect Flake from all further harm.

The Hollows got ready to strike, but before any of them could move an attack came down from the sky and cleaved the Machamp in half. Its body faded away in an instant and then an unknown Eevee-like Pokemon landed between Dune and Flake and the last Hollow. The newcomer fixated the Ninetales without saying a word and got ready to fight.

The strange shadow tendrils that seemed to indicate speech for the hollows formed on the Ninetales again and Dune received the following Words, “What in the shadows name is a Reaper doing here?!”

Good news guys, Dune isn't dead. And Flake killed a Hollow, how did he manage that? Well that will remain a mistery for now, after all Flake himself doesn't know ho whe did that.

Well the fight draws to an end and so does this chapter. The next page will probably be the last for chapter 3, then we'll go on to chapter 4.

AoR, Forgotten Paths, 9

Kuro was on high alert as the dust settled. He needed to locate the Hollows before they could use the dust to get the jump on them. It was the unfortunate truth after all, that the only way they could win this fight was by not getting hit at all. He could feel Kiara behind him, he knew she too was scanning the surroundings. But as the dust cleared completely, he saw that the hollows were distracted by something else.

Kuro followed their stare and what he saw stunned him as well. There was a crater in the ground and at it’s bottom lay the Hollow Jirachi, it wasn’t moving and started to fade away as they were watching. Shooting Star hovered above it, wounded but victorious. His mouth lifted to a smile, but Kuro could still see the rage in his eyes. He said something, but Kuro couldn’t make out the words.

He flinched as a black blur sped past him. The Ninetales had charged past him and now jumped towards Shooting Star, Kuro identified it’s attack as Flare Blitz, as it burst into flames mid air. Shooting Star had only enough time to brace for impact. Kuro wanted to pursue the Hollows but the other one, the Absol, cut him off.

Kuro dodged the Absols attack and spun around to face it. He growled in frustration, he knew Shooting Star was probably exhausted from his previous fight and on top of that the Ninetales had the Type advantage against him. But if he wanted to help he would need to get past the Absol first.

Luckily Kiara was still in fighting form as well and joined the fight. “Watch for an opening then go help Star.” she whispered when she passed him to hit the Absol with a Draining Kiss. He nodded, but then he looked past the Absol and froze. He saw Dune how she just rammed into her opponent a big Machamp, but the Hollow didn’t move and countered her attack immediately with a Hyper Beam. She had no chance of dodging in time.

Kuro screamed, “DUNE!!” and rushed past the Absol and towards the Machamp. A million thoughts rushed through his head, disbelieve, self blame, fear and hope all ran in circles in his brain, but above all else he felt rage. This Machamp would pay for hurting Dune, he would kill this monster. He was so angry that he forgot about the Type matchup and barely noticed that the hollow had already seen him.

The Machamp jumped into the air to dodge his Foul play and then blocked the Insect plague that he fired directly after with a protect. Then while Kuro was still turning around and without even landing the Hollow extended two of his arms to punch the ground bellow itself. The hit send shock waves through the ground and Kuros eyes widened as he realized what the enemy just did.

The Earthquake spread fast and Kuro didn’t have time to react, as he had already begun to charge his next attack. In his rage he hadn’t anticipated a counter attack and only now he realized his mistake. But it was to late and the attack hit him and threw him into the cliff wall behind him. He could feel the attack bypass his HP and break several bones, but he managed to stay contious.

As he opened his eyes again, the Machamp towered over him, with a terrifying grin. He looked past it and saw that the earthquake had pretty much hit every one in the valley. Only Flake had been spared somehow and now stood between Dune and the Absol, which had shifted it’s attention to her. Kiara lay on the ground motionless, he couldn’t tell it she was still breathing. Shooting Star was somehow still standing, but he didn’t look like he could take much more.

Kuro focused back on the Machamp. The Hollows just stood there. “Not going to finish me of?” he asked in a sarcastic tone. The Machamp smiled, “I wont have to.” it ‘said’, “plus, we were only after the Jirachi in the first place.” Kuro let his head sink back to the ground, he knew the Hollow was right. He had felt his bones break in the earthquake and as a surgeon he knew of internal bleeding. It wasn’t likely he would ever get back up, unless someone used a healing move on him real soon.

He closed his eyes to try and tune out the pain. Was this how dying felt like, had Dune felt like this back when, he thought. If only he had the strength left to get up, he wanted to check on her so badly, make sure she was okay. He send a silent prayer to Gaia, as he felt his body go numb.

Anyway, yeah our heros are losing, so I thought I'll end this page on a cliffhanger. Read what happens next time on AoR. What kind of miracle will save our precious Mcs, or maybe the next page will just be the last.

AoR, Forgotten Paths, 8

Kuro wanted to help Dune in her fight so bad, but he knew that he had his own troubles to deal with. He looked at the remaining Hollows up on the cliff. There were three of them and only Kiara and himself left to deal with them. He had to convince himself that Dune could handle herself, she was used to fight against enemies that were way stronger then she was. Arguably he was in the worse spot.

He felt Kiara standing next to him. He turned his head to face her, she smiled, “I’ll fight with you till the end.” she reassured him. He smiled back, "Let's hope it doesen't come to that." He scanned the remaining Hollows. An Absol, a Ninetales and a Masquerain, Dark-, Fire- and Bug-/Flying-Type. Not many favorable Type match ups, but at least that was true for both sides.

Kiara put a hand on his shoulder. “I think we should force the Absol and Ninetales into a 2v2,” she suggested, “The Masquerain has a really bad Type match up against Sammy, so it would be best if it was the one that pursued Maxwell’s Group” Kuro nodded, "Good plan, plus the Masquerain is the only Hollow we have a bad match up against, so not fighting it would be preferable." he replied.

Kuro scanned the surroundings. The valley restricted their movements and made it easy to cut of escape routs. There was also a lot of debris laying around providing cover, but also further restricting movement and visibility. To state it frankly it was an awful place to battle, but they didn’t have much of a choice. So he tried to recall everything he knew about Hollows.

Other then their ability to bypass the HP-barrier he only knew that Psychic didn’t affect them for whatever reason. But since they were likely a much higher level his Foul Play would be rather effective. Between Kiara and him only he could use Protect and since the HP barrier didn’t protect them reliably their only other chance was to dodge. He scoffed, could their chances be any worse?

“I’ll take the Ninetales, you focus on the Absol.” He informed Kiara, “But stick close so we can assist each other if necessary.” Kiara nodded. He grinned, “But to start,…” he said and charged up Enigmas move Insect Plague. He aimed for the Absol since it stood in the center of the group and was also weak to Bug-Moves. Plus this way he could hit the other two as well.

To Kuros surprise the Hollows didn’t even attempt to dodge and the move connected and knocked the Absol back a few meters. Both the Ninetales and the Masquerain were also hit by the infestation effect the move caused, so now all three opponents were compromised. Maybe he had caught them off guard, he thought. However the Ninetales didn’t hesitate to retaliate.

Infinity energy concentrated around it’s body and it released a Heat wave at Kuro and Kiara. Kuro shouted, “Watch out!” and managed to push Kiara and himself behind a boulder just in time. He started to appreciate these boulders lying around. But before he could think the Absol jumped back into the fight and hit him with a full force X-Scissor. Luckily he could block it with Protect.

The Ninetales jumped down from it’s place on top the cliff and took position beside the Absol. It seemed the enemy also wanted to fight 2v2. “Great,” Kiara said next to him, “looks like they had the same idea.” Kuro nodded, “That does invalidate our strategy a bit. You still in?” Kiara grinned, “Of course, let’s give them hell!”

At this exact moment Shooting Star threw his opponent into one of the cliff faces lining the valley and interrupted all other fights in the progress. Kuro gazed over, “Look’s like your friend is having some trouble.” he mocked the Hollows. The Ninetales growled and responded with a Flamethrower in his general direction. Both he and Kiara jumped out of the way, but now the flames separated them.

The Absol had apparently waited for this, as it rushed forward to hit Kiara with an Iron tail while she was regaining her footing. Kuro knew he wouldn’t be able to reach her in time, but it seemed Kiara had anticipated an attack against her. She continued her movement to avoid this move too and then in one flow brushed the Absol with her Nuzzle to paralyze it. The Hollow stumbled and crashed into the ground.

Kuro seized the opportunity and followed up with a Foul play into the Absol, which threw it into the wall. It tried to get up, but the paralysis rendered it unable to move. As Kuro turned to face the Ninetales again, Kiara launched a Shadow ball right past his head. He flinched and turned just in time to see the attack hit the Ninetales that had approached from behind, to hit him while he was distracted.

“Basdard!” he hissed, as the Ninetales got back up and Kiara took position beside him to guard his back. Now the Absol had also managed to get back up and they all glared at each other for a while. They all had managed to get a few bruises. Then out of nowhere something hit the cliff at full force again and raised a dust cloud that covered the whole valley.

I'm still not that comfortable writing battle scenes, but I think I'm improoving.

I'm also starting to get the hang of the prose format. It has some unique strength when telling a story, that so far I havent untillized to their fullest.

AoR, Forgotten Paths, 7

Dune could see the frustration in her enemies eyes. She smiled her tactic had worked, still she was probably just one mistake away from dying again and this time she wouldn’t be able to come back. Plus if her enemy knew a single special attack she was screwed, after all Deserts Rush only protected her from physical attacks.

As she waited for her opponents next move, the Hollow Jirachi crashed into the wall next to them closely followed by Shooting Star. The Hollow Machamps view followed the two mythicals and Dune used it’s distraction to charge at it with another Desert Rush. “You should keep your eyes on the fight big guy.” she hissed. The Hollow grimaced and tried hitting Dune with close combat again, but it had about as much effect as before.

Dune quickly jumped back to dodge an eventual followup attack, but the Machamp instead changed it’s battle stance and the weird tendrils formed on it’s shoulders again. It smirked, “I think I’m starting to understand how that move of yours works, but how about I test that theory further.” and with these words in Dunes Mind, it rushed forwards it’s four fists glowing with power.

Dune had barely time to raise her protect, to block the attack and a second swiftly followed. She managed to dodge but now she was thoroughly on the defensive. The Hollow seemed to know that very well and it was fast. She managed to block another attack with protect, but the barrage didn’t let off. This way she wouldn’t be able to get another hit in.

So she focused. If she could keep dodging there might come another opening, she just needed to be patient. The others had started to fight as well, but Dune couldn’t pay much attention to that. From the brief glimpses she got she managed to see that Kuro and Kiara fought together as they so often did, while Shooting Star and the Hollow Jirachi just wailed on each other. It was quiet frankly a miracle that they were both still standing.

As Dune blocked another attack, the fight between the two mythicals once again disrupted her opponent. This time the Hollow Jirachi had managed to throw Shooting Star to the ground where he promptly collided with the Machamp and knocked it down. Star got back up quickly and dodged a follow up attack by the Hollow, which in turn ended up hitting the Machamp instead.

Both Hollows got up and glared at their opponent, but both Dune was not about to let this opening go to waste and from what it looked like neither was Shooting Star. He glowed with infinity Energy, then he waited for his opponent to move. As the Hollows charged him he smirked and Dune understood that this had been his plan. The Hollow Jirachi hit him full force which rammed him into one of the valleys walls. This knocked up a lot dust and debris which momentarily covered the entire battlefield.

As she couldn’t see her opponent any longer Dune stopped the attack she had been charging and braced herself for when the dust would settle. When it did, Shooting Star hovered above the ravine bruised but still in fighting shape, while his opponent was laying in a hole in to ground, not moving. Dune saw him smile and he said, “Forgot about my Doom Desire did you now. Should have protected yourself insead.”

As he spoke the Hollows Jirachi began to dissipate like Hollows did when they where killed. The remaining Hollows stared at this in disbelieve and an “Impossible” echoed through Dunes mind as one of them ‘spoke’. As the fighting had momentarily stopped she took the time to take in the battlefield. Kiara and Kuro had apparently fought with the Hollow Ninetales and Absol in a 2v2. They were bruised but still standing.

Flake was hiding as Dune had told him to, he seemed fine. She sighed in relieve, but there was a problem. The fifth Hollow, the Masquerain, was nowhere to be seen. But before she could communicate any of that the Ninatales that had been fighting with Kuro and Kiara up until this point let out a deep growl and vaulted itself into the air towards Shooting Star.

It’s body got engulfed in fire mid jump and Shooting Star had just enough time to brace himself before the enemy hit him with a full force Flare Blitz. Dune saw that Kuro wanted to purse the Ninetales but the Absol blocked his path. The she noticed movement in the side of her eyes and turned just in time to block a full power close combat from the Machamp with a protect, who had used her lack of focus to come way to close for comfort.

“Nice try,” she mocked, “how many close combats were that now. Your Defenses should be almost zero at this point.” She jumped back, dodged a followup attack and charged up her desert Rush. “It’s about time we end this.” she said, as the infinity energy swelled up within her. She charged at her opponent at full force, but as she approached she saw as smirk creep up on it’s face.

It raised a protect and let her run into it at full force. Then it followed it up immediately with a Hyper Beam. Dune was still on the wrong foot from her charge so she couldn’t dodge and since Hyper Beam was a special attack Desert Rush couldn’t protect her from it.

She closed her eyes and braced for impact.

Next time I'll bring you Kuro and Kiaras fight, so you'll unfortunatly have to wait for page 9 before we learn what happens to Dune.

Though of couse, I already know.
