Protective - *NSFW*
Summary : When avoiding your over protective brother can lead to some good sex
Pairing : Dante Torres x Atwater!reader
Warning/s: Smut
Under 18s DNI
Having a brother in the best unit in the city had some perks but there were also a lot of disadvantages. When your boyfriend messaged saying that he had found your handbag in his car when he got to work this morning you thought nothing about just turning the car around and going to meet him to get it back. You had also forgotten you were in the same clothes you were in last night when Kevin came around to see you before you headed out on your date.
“Ah little Atwater. You want up to intelligence?” Trudy asked and you nodded
“Yeah please Trudy” You smiled and she walked out from behind her desk walking you up to intelligence. “Thank you Trudy” You smiled as she walked away. Dante instantly smiled over as he saw you.
“Hey Y/N what are you doing here?” Kevin asked walking over as he spotted you
“I left my bag at Molly’s last night. I know it was stupid but there was nothing in it but make-up touch up and perfume. Torres found it and I’m now just here to collect it” You smiled
“You’re wearing the same clothes as yesterday” You looked down at your outfit due to your brothers words
“I wear outfits more than once” You shrug as he gives to the protective look
“I don’t trust you. I’ll find out who it is” He replied and you rolled your eyes. “I promise I will and I’ll hurt him”
“Okay Kevin. You’re jumping to conclusions that there’s even anyone there” Kevin gave you a look as you rolled your eyes walking over to Dante.
“I just left it in my car” He smiled
“Okay. I’ll walk down with you” You shrug before following him downstairs and out to his car
“It’s quite fun avoiding your brother” He hummed standing in front of you as you leaned against his car
“Is that right? You could have reminded me to get changed!” You exclaimed. You were hiding your relationship because Kevin typically scared all of your boyfriends off.
“Oops” He smirked and you shook your head. Dante leaned down pressing a kiss to your lips “My house tonight?” He asked against your lips
“Sounds like a plan to me, officer” You hummed.
A couple hours later you were sitting in Dante’s house after he got home from work. You were meant to be watching a movie but in all honesty you were far more interested in him.
“Enjoying the sight?” He teased with a smirk and you nodded.
“I don’t know who wouldn’t. But they better not. You’re mine” You hummed as he moved so he was now on top of you. His arms holding him up next to your head
“Oh yeah? That right?” He teased and you nodded
“I’ll kill them if they look at you” You hummed
“I’d have to arrest you then” He replied
“Hot” You shrugged and he smirked
“Oh yeah?” You nodded looking up at him “Let’s see if you’re saying that later then Querida” You could feel the heat between your legs as he called you darling in Spanish. “Bedroom” He whispered against your ear before moving away. You happily complied walking through to the bedroom stripping off your clothes as you did. Laying on the bed as Dante walked in the room
“mi niña hermosa” He whispered and you smiled putting your body weight on your forearms as he walked over taking his shirt off. You frowned as you saw new cuts and bruises on his chest.
“Baby” You whispered running your fingertips over them
“No. Tonight is all about you Querida” You smiled lying back as he carefully pushed you back. In one swift move he moved your panties down your legs and threw them to the other side of the room. His fingers moving from your hips down to your lips, barely touching you as he spread your wetness. Your hips moved subconsciously as you wanted his touch more and more. Sex with Dante was now something you craved. He moved up kissing you as his fingers began to rub circles on your clit.
“More please” You whispered as he pressed kisses along your jaw, one finger sliding into you followed by a second causing a moan to escape from your lips. Dante with his other hand palmed his cock before pulling his boxers down and pushing in, filling you up. Dantes fingers are still working their magic on your clit as you grabbed the sheets on his bed. Head thrown back as you clenched around him, moans now more frequent as you felt the knot in your stomach tighten
“Ven querida” Dante’s Spanish was all you needed to push you over the edge. Your body feeling as it was falling apart as Dante continued to thrust into, his thrusts now becoming more staggered. After a moment he pulled out, pressing a kiss to your head as you came back around from your high.
“Querida. Need anything?” He asked and you shook your head
“Just to clean up” You smiled now looking up at him. Dante disappeared for a moment before coming back with a cloth to clean you up.
“Are you sure? No fruit juice, a little snack?” He asked being the complete gentleman that he was
“No. I’m okay I promise” You smiled as he wrapped his arms around you “What inspired that sex?” You asked looking up at him
“The fun of hiding from your brother”

Chicago P.D's Men as Your Older Brother
Wordcount: 1547. 230-290 each.
Reader's age and gender are not specified. The timelines may give a hint about the age differences, though.
Kevin Atwater
Raising 3 siblings was definitely not in Kevin's life plan. He has always been a good brother, but there's a huge difference between a brother and a father. Despite his insecurities, he did a good job. Kevin raised you, Vinessa, and Jordan with all the love in the world. Food, clothes, toys, birthday parties, doctor appointments, school work, he did it all. And he would do it again and again if it meant seeing you and your siblings growing up happy and healthy. When your father came back from prison, it took a toll on all of you. While Kevin tried to deal with his own unresolved feelings about your dad, you had a weird feeling growing in your chest.
“Who is this man? He is not my father, at least I don't feel like he is,” you told Kevin one afternoon after he mentioned your father wanted to meet. Kevin and Vinessa agreed with you, not really knowing how to feel towards the man.
“You raised us, Kev,” you said, looking into his eyes. “We never called you dad because you've always been Kev, our big brother. But you've been a dad to us all along.”
Later that night, you all got to an agreement: to give your father a chance. But he would never be number one. Ever. Kevin is and always going to be number one in your hearts.
Jay Halstead
It's no surprise to anyone that being a Halstead comes with a package: a talent for trouble and two very, extremely, unnecessarily protective older brothers. Jay and Will made sure everyone knew not to mess with you or things would get ugly really fast. Kids at school knew you had a cop and a doctor as your brothers, and you knew that was the reason no one ever laid a finger on you. This whole protective thing goes both ways, though. Jay will never forget the day you got home from a party with a busted lip. The reason? Apparently, to defend him.
“What?” the look of disbelief on his face was priceless. If this wasn't a serious conversation, you would be laughing your ass off. “Defending me? What do you mean?”
“We were talking, and suddenly the conversation shifted to police. This guy started shit-talking that all cops were dirty and did nothing for the city. Never in a million years could I stand there and say nothing!” you said in exasperation. “I told them how my brother saves lives every day and how much you and your team sacrifice for this city.”
Jay just stood there. His fingers came to rest on the bridge of his nose. Damn, he couldn't say he wasn't proud, but at the same time…
“Kid, that's nice and all, but would you mind not getting into fights on my behalf ever again? Jesus!”
Antonio Dawson
The Dawson siblings… your parents had no idea they would have to deal with 3 souls that feared absolutely nothing. Being the youngest definitely helped you feel even bolder. Having Antonio and Gabby protect you from everything and everyone made you feel like the safest person on earth. Growing up is never easy, but being a Dawson prepared you for a lot. With Gabby being in CFD and Antonio in CPD, your parents wondered if you would follow your sibling's footsteps. When the moment came to choose your profession, they were worried that would be the case. You, however, have no idea where your passion lies.
“You don't have to be so worried about this, kid,” Antonio said from his spot on the couch.
“How can I not, Tonio?”
“Come here, sit down,” he said, patting the spot beside him. You went and sat beside him. “It's perfectly normal to feel lost about all this. It's not an easy decision. “
“It was easy for you and Gabby. You always knew what you wanted to do.”
“That means nothing. Do you think we never had doubts? That we didn't struggle?” Antonio held your face in his hands. “You have our support. Always. It doesn't matter what you choose to do.”
“He's right,” Gabby said, having arrived in the room just now. “We love you, and we're going to help you find your way.”
Hank Voight
Losing a parent is something that can change someone’s entire life. You and Hank had to deal with the loss of your dad when you were both too young to even understand why he died. You and Hank were really different, but you both shared the wish to become police. To protect the city like your father did. Being the oldest, Hank became a mentor to you. He was there for you in every step of your career, being your biggest supporter. Being police somehow strengthened your bond and you guys grew closer as the years went by. You could be yourself without any fear with him, and he felt the same. When your brother lost the love of his life, his wife Camille, you were the only person he would open up to.
“I don’t know what to do,” Hank stared at you for the first time that evening. He’s been avoiding you since the funeral that morning. You knew he was scared to pour out his emotions, afraid he wouldn’t be able to keep going if he let himself feel all that pain.
“I’m here, Hank,” you held his hands that rested on the table.
“Do you remember how you felt when dad died?” Hank asked you.
“What? No… We were so young.”
“Exactly. I don’t remember hurting his much, you know?”
You felt your eyes fill with tears at his words. You got up and embraced him in a hug, hoping to pass him some comfort. “We’re going to be okay, brother. I got you.”
Adam Ruzek
As surprising as it may sound, having an older brother who never leaves you alone and is devoted to annoy you is not that bad. You were a really introverted kid, and for years Adam was your only friend. You were still a baby when your parents divorced. This made things even more complicated between them, but Adam has always been there for you. He held your hand when you walked for the first time. He taught you how to ride a bike and how to play football. Your dad always watched you two with fondness in his eyes. The three of you were pretty close. Bob was not perfect, but he tried his best. He knew that Adam felt like he had to protect you from everything, but sometimes that went too far.
“Adam, for the last time, tell me where the hell are they!” Bob was starting to lose his patience.
“Dad, I told you I don’t know.”
“You’re 20, for god's sake! You should stop covering for them.”
Adam choose to stay silent this time. They’ve been at it for 30 minutes now, and he already used all his excuses.
“Fine, you want me to go to the police station? I can find them and cause a scene, sending police cars to wherever they are!”
Adam’s eyes widened at this, he knew it was a lost battle now. He told your dad about the party you went to, already feeling sorry for all the scolding you’d get the next days. Later that night, Adam apologized for not being able to hold your dad longer.
You looked at him with a big smile on your face, “It’s okay, Adam. Do you wanna know how my date went?”
Dante Torres
Life could be hard. Too damn hard. You and Dante knew that very well. From a young age, both of you had to learn how to survive in a world where kids like you two were constantly thrown under the bus. Being a foreigner in the US was hard enough, but also being poor and living with an abusive stepfather made things worse. Dante had to grow up faster than usual. He had to become someone that you and your mother could rely on, even though he was way too young for any of this. Juvie. Gangs. You never lost hope that Dante would leave that life, find a good job, and be happy. The day he got into the academy was one of the happiest days of your life. Seeing him later in Intelligence made you so damn proud.
“I can't believe they're giving you a permanent spot!” you were jumping into his arms before he could cross the threshold.
“You saw my message?” Dante said with a smile, hugging you back.
“Of course I did! You got the job, I'm so proud of you!”
“Where's mom?” Dante asked, stepping back from the hug and closing the door. You could tell he was a little overwhelmed with the news himself.
“She will be back soon. We have a surprise for you,” you said nonchalantly.
“What? You guys didn't have to give me anything.”
“Don't worry, bald head,” you used the nickname he hated so much. “We want to treat you, for everything you did for us.”
You approached him again and held his hand, “We love you, and we're so proud.”
“I love you guys too.” Dante smiled down at you. “But never call me bald head again.”
“Okay, bald head.”
Please accept this post as my apology for being MIA… I had this idea the other day so I decided to write it.
I’m aware that Adam has a sister that was mentioned in the show, but I don’t remember much about her, so that’s why she wasn’t mentioned. The same goes for his mother. For the others, I tried to include their parents and siblings as much as I could.
Chapter 4 of Upstead Foster Daughter is half written because I want it to be longer than the others, but inspiration hasn't hit me in a while.
Thank you again for all the love on my fics. It means a lot to me seeing all the likes and reblogs ♡

Day 2 of my Month of May Writing Challenge: I’m really not sure what this is but enjoy! It’s a Halstead! sister reader x essentially intelligence unit. Idk how to tag this one tbh but it just came to me.
Title: Village
Your POV
You were an anxious person who had a brother who worked for a specialized elite unit in the police force and you liked crime drama shows, so it was no brainer your brain thought of all the irrational scenarios for you to be kidnapped. Like walking to the Target and getting grabbed by someone hidden in the bushes. You drop your phone and the only way anyone knows you're missing is because you do a no call no show at work. Or maybe you're at your door unlocking the gate but it’s taking you a hot second because you're carrying a tray of coffee for you and your siblings. A guy who was watching you for days sees their opportunity and grabs you, inevitably getting you to drop your drinks. Your brothers find out you're missing when they look outside and see your keys, backpack, and tray of drinks spilled out on the ground.
Realistically you know the likelihood of any of these things happening is low, but you're still on guard.
That’s why when you find yourself being chased by a man dressed as a construction worker, you're scared but not fully shocked.
Reaching your brother’s house, you bang on the door with the palm of your hand hoping he or his wife is home and will open the door. Looking back, you can see the man in the distance still running. Knocking harder, you pray someone will open the door. You can feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up when you realize the man in question is getting closer and before you have time to knock a third time, you feel yourself being lifted. You begin to wriggle about in his arms and begin to open your mouth to scream, but before you have the chance he clamps a hand over your mouth.
“Be a good little girl and swallow the pill” he chastises while yanking your head back to take in the pill he had in the palm of his hand.
You really don’t want to swallow it, but your reflexes kick in and before you know it whatever he had given you, you had swallowed.
“Good girl” he praises as he drags you away from the door and towards an awaiting van.
When you wake up, you find yourself tied to a pole in the center of a room. Looking around, you figure you're in a basement somewhere. You pray Jay realizes you’re missing and has started looking for you.
Jay POV
It was a slow paperwork day at the office. Nobody seemed too interested in the paperwork we were doing. 5pm couldn’t come fast enough. Y/N was supposed to be getting her homework done on time so that we could enjoy a nice relaxing movie to end the work/school week.
I knew Y/N was an anxious kid and had a wild imagination. I also knew my job was inherently dangerous so to make sure I could keep an eye on not only Y/N but also the house we lived at, I installed a ring camera and had the feed hooked up to my phone. So anytime someone came to the house I would be alerted. Y/N did not know this cause she didn’t need her imagination running more wild with the possibilities of what could happen.
While typing away on my computer, my phone lights up with a notification that someone is at the door. I decide it’s best to finish my thoughts in the report before looking.
When I do eventually look I catch the tail end of someone dragging my sister away and she looks passed out.
“Voight!” I call out while rewinding the ring camera to see a frantic Y/N continuously check behind her back and then see the man grab her.
The team gathers around and watches.
“Adam, Kim, see if we can get facial rec off this partial facial grab” states Voight while putting a hand on my shoulder and squeezing it.
I can’t believe my sister got kidnapped and I didn’t catch it cause I was doing stupid paperwork!
Your POV
The man had just left the room and all you could do was sob! He roughed you up a bit and told you that you had to be a good little girl, let him call you Saddie and if you did what he told you then you wouldn’t be chained up anymore. You just wanted to go home.
Jay’s POV
Voight is letting me help with the case, but I have to stay on desk duty.
“We got a name! His name is Richard Klutz. His rap sheet includes aggravated assault, mandated anger management therapy, possession with intent to sell, and get this he was a good citizen up until 3 years ago.” spoke Kim while Adam put up photos and wrote on the whiteboard.
“What changed” I asked while swallowing the nausea I was feeling just thinking about my sister being in the hands of this monster.
“His 13 year old daughter died from Leukemia.” stated Kim.
The team got to work trying to locate a location that Richard might be at. But we came up empty, until Hailey realized that maybe a family home if his daughter was what made him go off the deep end.
“1455 S Archer, he is still paying property taxes on the place. It didn’t come up in the initial search cause the house is under his ex's name.” I said from my desk.
“Let’s roll out!” called Voight. I watched as everyone grabbed coats and began to shuffle out. I prayed my sister wasn’t hurt too badly! I couldn’t wait to get the call to head to the hospital to see her!
Your POV
The man, who had begun referring to himself as daddy, had beat me up some more and was now in the process of cutting my hair. My hair isn’t that long to begin with, it’s just past my shoulders, but he is trying to make it like a pixie cut, but he is using kitchen sheers and it hurts and I just know it my heart it’s going to be a botched job I’m going to have to pay to get fixed.
“There, all pretty” he sing songed while petting my now pixie short hair.
I scowled and spit out, “go to hell”
Before he could punch me again for cursing I heard the door upstairs and footsteps. The team found me!
“Down here!” I screamed while smirking at the man.
A rush of footsteps came barreling down the wooden staircase and I smiled in relief when I saw Adam, Kim, Kevin, and Hailey!
Adam and Kevin tackled the man and both Hailey and Kim came to untie me. Once untied I fell into Hailey’s arms and sobbed!
“It’s okay babygirl, we got you, you’re safe now” she reassured me.
Third Person POV
At the hospital Jay met everyone. Ethan confirmed that Y/N didn’t need to stay overnight, but she did need to stay for a few hours to get rehydrated from an IV and get her wounds cleaned. Dr. Charles also came for a visit and they discussed that even though she had thought of all these various scenarios happening to her, this was definitely not her fault and she was not asking for it. He also recommended she had some one on one therapy to manage her anxiety going forward and to also have family therapy with Will and Jay to help her voice her thoughts about them having dangerous and time consuming jobs. And also so that Will and Jay can learn how to communicate with her about important things without feeling like by doing so they are going to trigger her anxiety.
Hailey and Kim decided that they would take Y/N for a girls day. They got a haircut to fix her botched pixie. Then they went for mani & pedis.
Kevin and Adam decided they were going to do their own day with her, which included teaching her self defense moves and ended with teaching her how to play video games after she kicked Adam a little too hard in the nuts.
Voight’s way to help Y/N through her trauma was to take care of Richard Klutz and make sure he left town and never came back.
Through it all, Y/N and the Halsteads realized that it truly does take a village to raise someone and damn do they have a village around them!

i think you were drunk (you spelled wedding wrong)
Paring: Reader x Carlos Sainz Jr.
Warnings: Hurt/no comfort, Fluff, Childhood love
Word Count: 5,807
Status: Complete
Inspired by: "Why'd you invite me to your wedding?" - Kevin Atwater
____________________
Carlos hadn’t seen the message until the next morning.
A message from a number he thought forgot about him. For a moment, he wondered if it could be true. If it was real.
“Hey! I’m sorry this is so out of the blue, I know it’s been a while. I hope you’re doing good, I watch your races so just know I’m always rooting for you. I miss being at the races with you, it was always so fun. I’m sorry it’s been so long. But I wanted to invite you to my weddign, which will be next month. I’ve sent an invitation to your family, I hope that’s alright. I wanted to invite you myself because I could not imagine that day without you. Let me know if you can make it, I know how busy you are. Love you.”
Then, right under it, is a smaller bubble that reads:
“Text me back if you can. I miss you.”
Carlos thinks he might be sick. He rereads the message, pulling his phone closer to his face. He can’t stop himself from whispering her name. It’s been years. This girl, his girl. His entire life, she’s been there, since he was little. They were fast friends, but, of course, to Carlos, it was more than that.
To him, it was everything.
__________
“Someone has a crush on Carlito!”
Her brothers were running around them, stomping across the grass. She groaned at them, they had moved twice - each time prompted by them coming around to pick at their sister. Carlos liked to giggle at it, he and Blanca weren’t as rambunctious.
Carlos knew that they liked to pick on her, but would always stop the moment she began to cry. She was their baby sister after all.
“Shut up! I do not!”
Her face was a violent red, the blush spreading up to her ears. She huffed, crossing her arms over her chest, and puffing her cheeks. Her brothers come to pull at her hair, pinching at her sides. She whines for them to leave her alone and Carlos can only giggle.
He thinks about what they’ve said. A crush? On him? The thought alone makes his face go hot. That kind of thing, with moms and dads and kissing. He hadn’t given it much thought.
Would it be so bad? Carlos didn’t think so. He thought that if he did have to marry anyone, he’d like it to be her. She liked racing and played golf with him.
“Maybe Carlito has a crush on you!”
“Stop!”
Carlos looked down at his lap. Did he? He pulls at the skin of his fingertips, his head full of thoughts. He shakes his head, trying to laugh it away, “No way!” He says.
It’s easier like that.
When he looks over at her, she’s staring straight at him, a smile on her face.
“We’re best friends!” She declares, glaring over at her brothers, “Right?”
“Right!” Friends. If she wanted to be friends, Carlos thought that was perfect. “Best friends.”
Because even friends could marry each other, right?
__________
He spent the morning staring at his phone.
Carlos thought that perhaps it would go away, fade into nothingness, but it was still there, a blue bubble glaring right at him. He had spent hours rereading it, so much so that he was sure he could recite it from memory.
‘I miss you.’
He squeezed his eyes shut. The memories of her were something that he kept away. Secret treasures that he held so close to his heart. Even after all these years, at just the simplest phrase, Carlos could feel his heart begin to pound.
It was only her.
It would only ever be her.
Evidently, he recalls bitterly, he wasn’t it for her. Carlos has to stop himself from throwing the phone. Even in the darkness of his mind, he can see those words. He can hear her voice, reading them aloud. It makes him sick.
He knew that they would meet again - he prayed for it - but never like this. It wasn’t fair. Almost cruel, he thinks, that he would be subject to loving her for the rest of his life. But, how beautiful it is to love her.
He thinks of her smile. The smallest quirk of her lips, something so shy and tiny. It was only full with him, or at least, it was. His mind wanders to who she might be now. There’s a part of him that knows he could find out, the quickest search of her name would tell him everything.
But there’s a reason he hasn’t, he was afraid of seeing her happy without him.
He couldn’t.
Carlos sighed.
His chest was heavy with emotion. There was a sea of them - anger, sadness, happiness, longing. He might just explode. Fall apart on his couch and just a mess of a man.
They were so young then. Just kids. Carlos thinks of the irony, they used to sit and laugh at the thought of people getting married so young. Thinking that you could devote yourself to someone you hardly knew, he remembers how they thought it was so stupid.
It isn’t as funny anymore.
__________
When Carlos got the call from Red Bull he cried.
His father had been pacing the room with him, talking about his chances and pondering on the season. But as soon as that phone rang, he was right at Carlos’ side, already pulling him into a hug as soon as he confirmed a date for contract negotiations.
It was his time.
His start was here and now.
When he managed to calm himself down, he called her.
She picked up and screeched in his ear when he broke the news.
“OH MY GOD! CARLOS! YOU DID IT!”
He started to cry all over again, “...I know…”
“I’m coming over,” She said hurriedly, he could hear her bustling around the room.
“Wait! You don’t have to -” She’d already hung up on him.
He was waiting outside for her, fidgeting with the dirt around the steps of his house. The excitement was buzzing in his veins, he could still hardly believe it. She rode up only a few moments later, dropped her bike onto the lawn, and ran up to him. He caught her in a hug.
Carlos couldn’t help the few tears that escaped him. His dream was finally happening. He would finally get the chance to be known as more than just the son of Carlos Sainz, he was going to make a name for himself.
He couldn’t wait.
When she pulled away, she was quick to seize his shoulders, “You did it!”
He could only smile, there was so much joy, he was bursting with it.
“I’m so proud of you, Carlos,” She said, smiling up at him.
He felt his face go red. She would never understand how much those words would mean. Everyone could hate him, everyone could be against him, but so long as she wasn’t, he could do anything. Since the very beginning, she had always been his biggest supporter. Every race she could go to, she was at. It got harder as he climbed the ranks, races were farther and farther. But it always seemed like she just knew.
When he would come back she would insist on a very detailed account, getting angry with him when he left anything out. She claimed it made her feel like she was there. Carlos always just rolled his eyes, but he could never deny how much he loved it. To know that she wanted him to do well.
It made every victory sweeter and every loss harder.
Above all, he hated losing in front of her. To know that she was watching, to know that she could see him fail. He hated it. But she always said that even champions have bad seasons, it wasn’t untrue, but Carlos hated it nonetheless.
They had moved to the steps of his house. Sitting beside one another, their knees touching, she bumped him with her shoulder.
“So, you’re going to remember me when you’re rich and famous?”
He rolled his eyes, “I don’t know. I’ll probably be super busy being too cool.”
“You are not cool.”
“Whatever,” He shrugged, “Don’t come crying to me when I’m champion.”
“As if,” She shoved him, he caught himself on the step and turned to her.
He began to laugh before hooking his arm around her neck, “Of course, I’ll remember you.”
‘I love you.’
“You’re my best friend.”
She looks up at him. Carlos thinks that there’s something that passes across her face, but then, it’s gone. She smiles a true smile. Wide and beautiful.
“Good.”
_________
His mother calls him on the way to a meeting.
As much as he wishes he could just let the phone ring, he knows he can’t.
As soon as he answers, she’s gushing in his ear, “Carlito, I can’t believe she’s getting married! How wonderful! She will be the most beautiful bride! The invitation is just gorgeous.”
He lets her speak, leaning back in his seat. It hurts to know that his mother is so excited. He always thought that she wanted him to marry her, that’s what she always said when he was a kid. Maybe everyone let it go but him.
“Did you know about this?”
“No, Mama,” He lies. It’s awful, lying to her. He can’t try to explain his feelings now, there’s still a part of him that wishes they’d go away. Hoping to drown himself in whatever work Ferrari will give him. The pain burns and he just wants to breathe again.
“We should send her something,” She adds, he can hear her moving around the house. He wonders if she has the invitation in his hand.
He hums, trying to keep the anger from his voice. This wasn’t her problem and he wasn’t going to make it hers. She doesn’t need to know - even if she did, what would she do?
His mother seems to think for a moment, humming a mindless tune before saying, “You should send her something!”
Carlos nearly chokes.
“What?”
“Yes!” Her voice is so bright, “You two were so close, why not send her something? A ‘congratulations’ of sorts. Yes, that would be nice.”
“Mama…” He begins, unsure of how to tell her, “I - I don’t know -”
“Carlos,” She warns.
With a sigh, he just hums again, “I’ll look into it.”
“Good,” He can hear the excitement ramp up in her voice again, “Isn’t this just so beautiful?”
Carlos can’t respond.
It isn’t. It makes him sick. The very thought of it makes him want to cry and scream. Anger burns within him, stomach twisting. He hates this. He hates it because he loves her. He loves her more than anything.
“It is.”
__________
It was quiet, the summer sun dancing on their skin. A breeze pulling through the air, tall grass blades dancing. The smell of the garden roses drifting around them.
Carlos’ heart was pounding, thudding against his ribs, nearly jumping into his throat. He tried to swallow the anxiety that nearly lept from him, but the nerves in his stomach made it impossible. He felt like he was choking. Just sitting beside her, so close, but so far.
He could feel the heat of her hand, he yearned to touch her, to intertwine their fingers. It wouldn’t be wrong, they held hands a lot back then, but he wasn’t sure he could do it, afraid his heart would’ve exploded.
“What is it?” She looked over at him, her eyes trying to pry the information out of him.
He tore his face away, fists clenching at his side. He was always so afraid to tell her. Just a boy terribly in love with a girl, but he could never bring himself to say it. When he tried the words would abandon him and he would just end up brushing it off.
But there, in the silence of the garden, he knew there was no hiding it. Not when she was boring a hole into the side of his head. She stared right through him. He took his lip between his teeth, horrified at the thought of it all slipping out.
She would hate him. If he ever dared to say something like that she would kill him, he was so sure. It’s funny to look at it now, but he just focused on the blades of grass beside him. The green was bright and strong, small weeds blooming within the folds of dirt. He reached over to pluck at a dancing flower, but his hand was caught.
She grabbed him, fingers around his wrist. Her hold was hardly there, he could break free from it if he wanted. But he didn’t want to. He wanted to stay there with her.
He was sure that she could feel his racing heart, but she said nothing. Just bringing her hand up to rest in his palm. His stomach flipped, and he shut his eyes.
This wasn’t like him. Carlos had never been a coward, but for her - and only her - he was reduced to nothing. He loved her, his feelings brimming inside him.
Any more and he was sure that he would come apart at the seams.
“Carlos,” Her voice whispered.
He cracked his eyes open, and she was there, leaning over to peer down at him. Her hair fell from her shoulders, so close that he could smell her shampoo. It was the same one she’d used since they were 6 - one her mother made. The scent was her and her alone.
Carlos swallowed.
She lowered herself closer. Carlos was sure his heart was so loud that she could hear it, surely she could. She smiled down at him, cocking her head to the side.
“What are you thinking?”
He just shook his head, afraid to trust his voice.
“Then?”
“‘Then’ what?”
“Why won’t you look at me?” A pout made its way on her face, jutting her lower lip out dramatically.
He chuckled, trying to rein in his heart. But it was so difficult, her beautiful eyes looking down at him, the lines of her lips and nose and cheeks. He had memorized it all. He would know her no matter what, from the way she laughed, to the way she spoke, to the way she just breathed.
Carlos loved her so much it hurt.
‘I can’t,’ He didn’t say, ‘I love you too much.’
She didn’t say anything. Just smiling down at him. Carlos thought that just for a moment if even for a moment, something shifted in her eyes. A foreign look floats in them, dancing in the color and making them shine.
It was odd.
He wanted to know what that was, the smallest change. Silence pulled over them.
The sun shined through the parts in her hair, falling onto his skin, a gentle stroke of warmth. The breeze carried the scent of the roses, and the grass below them swayed. Around them, the world seemed to slow. It was like the only person he could see was her.
The only person that she could see was him.
Lost somewhere in time, just two hearts dancing away in the summer. Nothing else would matter, just them, just at this moment.
Carlos lost himself.
He leaned up, closing the space between them, and kissed her.
The softest thing, a barely there press of their lips.
He hadn’t even realized he’d done it, pulling himself away as soon as he did.
Neither of them said a thing. Just staring at the other with wide eyes. A pink blush dusted her cheeks, and that look in her eyes changed again. She drew in a sharp breath, and Carlos was sure he’d ruined everything.
It was destroyed because of him.
But he couldn’t even mutter out an apology. There was nothing to say, nothing to do. She moved away, rolling back to sit on the grass. Carlos felt like crying, bringing a forearm to cover his face.
What an idiot.
He felt the regret sit against his chest, so heavy he could hardly breathe. Why did he have to lose control of himself? They were supposed to be friends, but all he was doing was making it complicated. He was in love with her, she loved him - it was supposed to be enough.
Carlos let out a deep sigh. He could hear the grass shifting beside him, he spared a look over and she was still there. She sat with her knees pulled up to her chest, tucking her chin on them, arms wrapped around her legs.
When he opened his mouth to speak, she beat him to it, “I - I guess…I mean, I guess it would be lame if you went to Red Bull without having your first kiss, huh?
He shot up, “That’s - that’s not what this was! I - I’m sorry!”
She turned to face him, her face still bright red, but with a shy smile, “It’s ok.”
He hadn’t realized that he reached for her hand, and she squeezed, “I didn’t mind. If I’m going to have my first kiss, at least it’s you.”
Carlos could only stare at her, mouth hanging open.
This wasn’t what he thought.
“Are you sure?”
She leaned against her knees, “Yeah. Isn’t that what friends are for?”
The word struck him deeper than it had any right to. But he couldn’t help the relief that flooded through him, “Yeah…yeah…of course.”
“It would be lame if I was the only F4 driver without a kiss.”
“Super lame.”
“Hey!”
She burst into laughter. Her laugh filled the garden and he was soon to join, throwing his head back. This was easy. Being like this with her was easy.
“That means you would’ve been lame too.”
“Not as lame as you.”
“I’m super cool.”
“No, Carlos, you’re not.”
They never spoke of it again.
__________
Carlos nearly has a heart attack when his phone buzzes in his pocket. But, upon further inspection, it’s only Blanca.
‘I talked to Mom,’ Her text says, ‘She told me what happened.’
He just stares at it. Pocketing his phone, he’ll answer it later. Too many texts have been sent to him today. Carlos contemplates running over his phone. Maybe that’ll shut everyone up.
His pocket buzzes again. And again. And again.
With a groan he pulls it back out, scrolling through the messages.
‘Answer me.’
‘CARLOS.’
‘Ok,’ Is all he sends back, ready to tuck it away once more, but there’s another text that pops up.
‘Are you ok?’
For a moment, Carlos thinks about telling her. Though he never said a word about his feelings Blanca had this way of knowing. She called it a ‘sister thing’. Carlos just thought she was nosey.
‘Yes,’ he sends, following it with, ‘Why wouldn’t I be?’
The text bubbles appear and disappear, it’s not very fair. He knows. But there’s too much happening and he can’t - he just can’t. Tomorrow he will apologize, but today, he just needs a break.
In one of her ‘sister thing’ moments, she only ends up sending.
‘OK, I’m here if you need anything. I love you.’
Carlos can feel the lump in his throat and struggles to swallow it.
I love you too.’
__________
She called him sobbing.
It was nearly midnight, Carlos had just gotten back from a race. He’d fallen onto his bed, sighing into the night air, when the rang. He thought about letting it go, the rings growing louder in the silence of his room.
Against himself, he reached over and answered.
As soon as he did, he could hear her heaving breaths, the sound of her hiccuping cries. He shot up and pulled the phone closer.
“What happened? What’s wrong? Are you hurt?”
There was no answer, just another broken sob. The slick sound of her sniffling, wet breath.
“Please,” He whispered, already standing, “Please tell me what’s wrong. Carino, please.”
“W-Will you come o-over?” She managed.
He did. Shoved his feet into his shoes, pulled a shirt over his head, and stormed right out the door. It never crossed his mind to take a car - he just ran. Pushing his way through the gate and rounding the corner into the street. He could hardly see a thing, the moon clouded and fuzzy.
But he ran to her.
He was there faster than ever, crawling over the small fence to get to her backyard. The garden stood tall, and the roses nicked his ankle. But all he could think about was the light coming from the upstairs bedroom, a shadowy figure pacing across the curtains.
He had half a mind to scream for her, but she peered through the curtains and he could see the relief spread across her face. The sight of her made his stomach drop, he nearly tripped over himself to climb the ledge. It was a path he’d taken countless times, jumping to grip the railing and hoisting himself up. As a kid, he used to need her help, but they weren’t kids anymore.
And Carlos is sure he would’ve found a way. Nothing could’ve stopped him from reaching her.
Dropping himself onto the wooden floor, he breathed her name, but she was already pushing herself into his arms. He felt her trembling against him, wet facing pressed into his shirt. He couldn’t have cared less. Wrapping his arms around her, he brought her closer. Claros dropped his head to whisper into her ear.
“I’m here…shh…I’m right here.”
Where her arms were locked around him, she fisted at his shirt, the fabric bunched between her fingers. Her grip was so tight he worried it might rip, but how could he ever worry about that? She pulled away from him, just enough to look him in the eye. Her face was blotchy, cheeks wet with tears, eyes red-rimmed.
But Carlos still thought she was beautiful.
The heartbreak on her face made something crack within him.
“W- What’s wrong? Please, tell-”
“My dad,” She gasped, sucking in a large fit of air, “It - it’s my dad…he’s dying, Carlos…”
The world seemed to go still. Her words hadn’t seemed real, and Carlos half expected her brothers to jump from the dark hallway and laugh. It wasn’t possible. Things like this weren’t supposed to happen to them. Things like this - losing people, losing friends, and family - happened to everyone else.
But not them.
It seemed that the world had finally come caving in on their little bubble. It was shattering around him and all Carlos wanted to do was stop it. Carlos felt so cold, that he hadn’t even realized that he began to cry too. Silent tears rolled down his face before he could stop them.
The pain was unbearable.
But they held each other. There, on her porch, they stood crying. Falling apart and having the other to lean on. Carlos clung to her, afraid that the world would try to take her too. That it would get greedy.
‘I’m sorry,’ He wanted to say, but he couldn’t. The words lost to him, stuck in his throat.
He prayed that she would know. That she would know his feelings, the way he needed her. The way he loved her.
“Stay,” She whispered to him, her words almost swallowed by her cries, “Please.”
‘I need you.’ Went unsaid, but Carlos heard it anyway.
“Always.”
‘I love you.’
__________
“Everything alright, mate?” Charles’ voice pulled him back to himself
Carlos shakes his head, blinking a few times, eyes stinging, “Yeah..fine. Sorry.”
He looks up, Silvia glaring down at him. The P.R. briefing was never anything he truly listened to, but perhaps his disinterest had gotten far too obvious.
“As I was saying,” She rolled her eyes, flipping the papers in her hand.
Her words fell past him again, something about interviews and language. He could feel Charles’ eyes still on him. He was far too kind for his own good, sometimes that meant trying to understand things that he had no business knowing.
The meeting rolled on, and when they were dismissed, Carlos tried to slip away, but he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder.
“Hey!” Charles hooked his arm around Carlos, “Everything alright?”
“Of course,” He tried to sell it with a smile.
Charles didn’t believe him, green eyes boring into his own. When Carlos looked away, Charles was quick to bid those around them goodbye and steer them to an empty conference room.
Damn, empath.
“What is it?” Charles said, shutting the door behind him.
Secrets had never been Carlos’ strong suit. He threw himself onto a chair, bringing his hands up to his face. He hadn’t spoken to anyone about the message and was unsure how to start. He was lost in the sea of his emotions, torn between his sadness and anger.
He felt like an idiot.
“Carlos?”
Charles sits across from him, concern written across his face. Carlos takes a deep breath, he steadies himself on his knees, resting his elbows on his legs.
“There was this girl - we were friends when we were little,” Charles nods along, letting Carlos speak, “And earlier today, she texted me to tell me that she was getting married.”
“OK?”
Carlos looks over at Charles. He’s unsure of the face that he makes, but it seems to be enough for him to understand. His face falls and he puts his hands over his heart.
“Mate, I - I’m so sorry.”
Carlos waves him away. This isn’t his fault, and yet, it’s just like Charles to act as if it is, “I will be fine.”
Charles is silent for a while, looking down at his hands. He’s fiddling with the rings on his fingers, eyes darting around the room. Carlos has known him for far too long, he could practically see the cogs turning.
“What?”
Charles doesn’t answer right away, but when he does, there’s a look in his eye, “Do you still love her?”
Carlos takes a deep breath. There is only one answer, there has only ever been one answer.
“Yes.”
__________
Her father died 4 months later.
And she was gone two months later.
Her mother couldn't take the pain of being alone in the house her husband built, so she left. All things packed, the house empty, they were gone.
Carlos couldn’t even say bye. His negotiations with Red Bull ran longer than they were supposed to, when he threatened to walk out his father nearly smacked him.
“This is the opportunity of a lifetime!”
“She’s my best friend - I love her!”
“There will be other girls, she is not the only -”
“Yes,” He nearly screeched, “She is! She is the only one!”
His father just stared at him, sharp eyes squinting. He would never understand and Carlos didn’t have the strength to make him. He called her instead.
She picked up on the second ring. Neither one of them said a thing, but Carlos could feel her disappointment. It was his own.
Eventually, he can bring himself to utter her name, trying to find the apology, but she beats him to it.
“I’m going to miss you,” She says.
Carlos nearly cries. They’ve been apart, his racing often keeping them away from one another for months on end, but she has always been at him, waiting for him.
“I wish you could stay.”
He was being selfish - he knows - but the fear of her leaving, going far away. Carlos thought he was dying. His chest was tight, breathing shallow. His mind was racing, trying to think of something to make her stay - anything.
“I do too,” He could hear the faintest hint of a smile in her voice, “But I can’t.”
“I could…” He began.
But there was nothing. There was nothing that he could’ve done. The decision was one that was far beyond both of them. Spain held so much sadness for her, and it would be wrong for Carlos to ever want to have kept her there. It wouldn’t have been right.
Silence ballooned between them once more. They were just there, breathing with one another. There was so much Carlos wanted to say, so much he needed to say. His love felt like it was bursting from his chest, trying to force its way out. Carlos choked it back.
This wasn’t the time. It wasn’t the right moment to -
“I love you, Carlos.”
The words hit him and he nearly collapsed. He could imagine her face, hand curled tight around her phone, beautiful face red. His heart was pounding, blood rushing.
All these years, all this time. He loved her in silence, but to know that she loved him. It made him feel like he was floating.
“I -”
“Carlos!”
His father was standing right before him, eyebrows drawn tight together, “They are waiting!”
“I’m going, I just have to-”
“You should go, Carlos,” He heard, her voice thin. She was crying, he knew she was, “They’re waiting for you.”
“NO!” He demanded. This wasn’t how he’d say goodbye, he wanted to tell her.
“Please, I just need to say something.”
Again, his father just stared at him. But there was something different, his eyes were softer. Carlos thought if even for a moment, he saw understanding. With a click of his tongue, his father turned away, “Five minutes.”
He breathed a sigh of relief.
He took a deep breath, “I - I need you to know-”
“I already do know,” There was a slight laugh to her words, just the smallest thing. Before Carlos could say anything else, she kept going, “Go show them who you are, Carlos.”
“But I need to tell you that I -”
“I love you too,” Was all he heard before the dial tone.
She was gone. Just like that.
__________
Though Charles offers to take him out to treat his sorrows, Carlos declines. He watches as Charles’ smile falters, but he still pats Carlos on the shoulder.
“Of course,” He says, turning to fish his keys from his pocket, “But if you change your mind, let me know. Okay?”
Carlos nods. He waves Charles away. When he’s alone in his hotel room, he collapses onto his bed. He slips his phone from his pocket. It opens and he’s face-to-face with her message.
Carlos wanted to be angry.
After years, this was the first thing she said.
He could say something, call her. It wouldn’t be right, he can’t be the reason that she breaks someone’s heart. He can't be the reason that someone else has to live without her. What a terrible existence that is.
It just makes no sense, to think that after all these years, she invites him to her wedding. Carlos always thought that once they made their way back to each other, they would marry. In all his dreams, she was his wife. To love her forever would make the distance worth it.
She told him that day. She said that she loved him, Carlos couldn’t help but think that maybe she was just being nice, just telling him what he wanted to hear on the most important day of his life. Thinking that maybe he had taken it wrong.
“Love you.”
But she would never love him the way he loved her. Completely. From the first day he met her, bumping heads in class, to the day he lost her. He has always loved her. He can see her still, smiling and bright - like the stars. He can feel the summer breeze, the smell of their childhood. He can see the rosebuds right before they bloom, waiting with her as the rain comes and they get sick. He remembers going to all her Flamenco performances - acting like he really cared about dances and not just seeing her face light up when she saw him.
There is no part of his life that he can look back on and not see her. She is everywhere. And Carlos knows that she always will be.
‘Text me back if you can.’
He couldn't bring himself to say no but knew he’d die if he had to see her marry someone else. It would break her heart, he’s sure of it. He can almost picture the disappointment on her face. Carlos wishes he could be stronger, to just put on a brave front, but he can’t. He’s only human.
He’s just a man hopelessly in love with a woman he can’t have.
What a pitiful thing to be.
Carlos looks down at his phone.
The words are searing. If he saw her, what would he even say? Would he be able to hold himself back? Keep himself from spilling his feelings?
The answer is simple.
He won’t.
There is something small inside of Carlos’ mind that feels giddy, she still thinks of him. He was still important to her, she wanted him. She cared about him. She missed him. Maybe she still loved him. Maybe he could -
He shakes the thoughts from his head. No. That was a lifetime ago, those feelings were alive when they were 16. Not now.
There’s only one question he thinks back to.
Why?
After all these years of silence, why now? Why this?
They were kids back then, but Carlos likes to think that even what they felt then wasn’t nothing. That’s the very problem. Nothing was the same. They weren’t the same, the world around them wasn’t the same - even if Carlos so desperately wished it was.
The screen begins to fade, but he taps it. It lights up once more, illuminating in the darkness of the hotel room.
She’s getting married and she wants him to come.
She’s happy and in love. She’s moved on. Carlos thinks of her smile again. A crushing sense of finality passes over him. He hopes that whoever it is makes her smile, and makes her laugh. He hopes that they hold her when she cries, and catch her when she falls.
He hopes that one day he’ll be able to look back on her without so much pain.
Why?
That question refuses to die, still floating around in his mind even as he tries to shake it away.
He’ll never know why, but maybe it’s better that way. To keep her as who she is in his memory, to keep them as they were. Young and beautiful. That’s all.
Her message will sit unanswered. He can’t. He won’t.
Carlos whispers an apology, he hopes that it might reach her. That she’ll catch the drift of his words in the wind, maybe even forgive him. He lets himself think of her, wondering what she’ll wear, what her hair will look like.
Beautiful.
He’s sure.
He just won’t be there to see it.

I always try to write out every request you send me but there are some topics I don’t feel comfortable writing about so please read this before sending a request ❤️
Every fic I write is ‘character x female!reader’ at the moment but I’m open to write oc in the future.
I don’t write about non consensual topics, r*pe but some fics may have some mentions of them so I’ll put a TW.
I don’t write ‘character x sister!reader’, I don’t feel comfortable about thinking about characters I thirst about as siblings lol.
I also don’t write fics between character of the same sex since I don’t feel I have enough knowledge to write about these topic and I wouldn’t do a good job.
Cheating between the two main characters is not a topic I write about although it might be mentioned.

Lucky
Fandom: Chicago PD / Chicago Med
Characters: Atwater!Sister x Kevin Atwater, Kim Burgess, Maggie Lockwood
Word Count: 2098
Warnings: Gunshot mention, injury mention
Requested: No
Summary: Kevin gets hurt whilst out with Intelligence, and the reader is not happy about it.
-
You sat filling in your latest creation at the kitchen table, you carefully coloured in between the neat linework you had created of a fierce tiger with an open roaring mouth. Kim had even joked that it was so ‘freaking cool’ that she’d get it tattooed on her back, to which you had tried to make a crafty bet with her - unfortunately, it hadn’t landed, and you had a sneaky suspicion your tiger wouldn’t end up permanently inked to Kim’s skin. Yet, you still remained proud of your work, giving the tiger deep rich orange and brown tones on its fur.
It was a Friday night, which was usually, without fail, a pizza night with Kim and Kevin, and sometimes Jordan if he decided to stay home instead of going out to play video games at a friend’s house.
The trouble was, lately, Kim and your oldest brother had been invited more and more to work with a ‘special unit’, and though you didn’t know all the details you had gathered enough from overhead conversations, and little bits that Kevin did tell you, to know that this invitation was important.
After a lot of persisting in your line of questioning, and asking whether your brother was about to become a spy, Kim explained that ‘Intelligence’ was a special group of officers that helped take down really bad people. And that she and your brother had been occasionally requested to tag along and help out.
You had huffed in frustration when 5pm rolled around with no sign of Kevin, by 6pm your tiger was mostly coloured in and your tummy was full of pizza, with a little extra helping of cookie dough to really send you closer to a food nap. At around 6.30 pm you could sense Kim’s own restlessness, her subtle attempts to call and text your brother hadn’t escaped your notice. You were 14 after all, not 4.
Sighing you left your art supplies on the table mat, shuffling over to sit next to Kim on the sofa. Instantly she held out her arm so you could cuddle in, resting your head on her shoulder as you sighed. She squeezed you a little tighter.
“I know, kiddo. I’m sure we’ll hear something soon. If we don’t, I’ll ring around and ask some other people, alright?”
You nod timidly, the frustration you felt with Kevin had fully been replaced by worry.
Kim had been trying to give Kevin time to wrap up his affairs with Intelligence, she knew that the work day seldom finished when it was supposed to. It was like that with patrol, let alone Intelligence. She felt a gnawing worry, but she also didn’t want to interfere with Kevin trying to make a professional, good, impression on Voight and the others. Plus, she didn’t want to hear it from Trudy Platt about not being ‘a secretary for Atwater’.
By 7pm Kim gets a call from Antonio Dawson, and her stomach nearly falls out of her ass. She knew that Detective Dawson would have no good reason to call her at 7pm on a Friday. With a glance at you, she extricates herself from your dozing form, leaving the soft rumbles of the movie playing in the background.
“Detective?” She instantly queries, skipping the pleasantries.
“Burgess, you with Atwater’s sister?”
“Yes, sir.”
“He’s in the ED at Med, nothing too serious, a bullet grazed his arm. Took a few punches to the face. They’re just checking him over, patching him up. He’s gonna be on painkillers though, you think you can pick him up?”
Kim’s brain stalls for a moment before she stutters back into life, “Y-yeah, of course. We can be there in about 20.”
“Great. Listen, uh, I’d bring him to you but I gotta get back to the 21st so…”
“No, of course, I understand. No sweat, I’ll get Y/N and we’ll be there within half an hour.”
“Alright, see you then. Maggie Lockwood will be expecting you.”
“Okay.”
“Right, see ya, Burgess.”
“Bye, Detective.”
The line is disconnected and Kim exhales. She knew that even if what Antonio had told her was true, no matter how minor the injury, the fact that Kevin was in the ED at all would freak you out. If she was honest, it was freaking her out too. Kevin had become such an important presence in her life, just as you and Jordan had in the process.
Gently she shakes your shoulder, brushing stray hairs from your face,
“Y/N, sweetie. Wake up.”
Your eyes blink open, taking a moment to resurface from the foggy layers of sleep, licking your lips that had become dry at the mercy of the salty goodness of pizza.
“Kim? What time issit?” You wrinkle your face, yawning as you take a long drink of the water you had on the coffee table.
“It’s a little after 7. Listen, kiddo, I got a call from someone I work with. Your brother is okay, but he got a little hurt today, we have to go pick him up from the hospital.”
You nearly spit out your water, eyes going wide with worry.
Kim holds up placating hands,
“Hey, hey, it’s alright. He’s okay, we just gotta get him because they gave him some strong medication. But he’s fine, alright? They wouldn’t let us get him if he wasn’t.”
You sigh, biting your lip, but ultimately what Kim was saying made sense, and you trusted Kim.
Putting your sneakers on, and one of Kevin’s hoodies that you loved to perpetually steal, you bundled yourself into the front seat of Kim’s car, remembering to at least message Jordan about your brother.
Kim attempted to calm you by letting you choose the music, but you were too distracted wondering over and over if this would happen more now that Kevin had been picked for the special unit. You fiddled with the friendship bracelet on your wrist, it was identical to the one you’d made for Kevin.
“Hey, Y/N, you listening to me, sweetheart?” Kim’s voice is gentle, and you sigh, you know she’s trying her best.
“Yeah, I am, Burge. Just… scary, y’know?”
“Oh boy, yeah, I feel you on that.” There’s a beat of silence, and then she reaches out a hand to squeeze yours, eyes still on the road with one hand still on the wheel.
“It’s tough stuff. How about we smack him upside the head when we get there, hm?”
Kim knows how to get a laugh out of you, the two of you derived a lot of joy by driving Kevin and Jordan crazy with your shenanigans, you are thankful to have someone that you could see and have as a big sister figure.
-
When you arrive at Med you’re taken aback by how many officers were around, you were used to Kevin being in the company of other police officers now, but it still made you nervous to be up close with them. Silently you link your arm with Kim’s, keeping by her side as she walks you to the desk in the ED's waiting room. She glances at you with a reassuring smile, wrapping an arm around your shoulder to help you feel at ease.
“Ah, Officer Burgess. He’s just signing the discharge papers, I’ll let you through.” Leah recognised Kim immediately, this was certainly not the first nor the last time she’d been to Med, whether for herself or one of her colleagues and friends.
You glance at the lady at the desk, she officers you a warm smile and you return a timid one back, already trying to peep through the small windows of the double doors to see if somehow you could spot where your brother was.
Following Kim into the main area of the ED, you're struck by a varied and unsettling soundscape, of machines, patients in distress, and doctors communicating hastily… in the chaos stands Maggie, whom you’d met briefly before at one of the famous Lockwood BBQs. Her soft expression and warm smile are an oasis in the storm, and though Kim is already heading towards her you feel like making a beeline, desperate to be with Kevin now.
“Hey, Mini Atwater, how’re doing, hon? I hear you’re looking to get an art honour this year.” Maggie rests a reassuring hand on your shoulder, looking proudly at you. Kevin had obviously been hyping you up, he had an embarrassingly sweet habit of doing that.
“I’m- I’m okay, and uh, yeah… I’m hoping. Did Kev tell you?”
“He sure did, sweetie. He hasn’t stopped jabbering about you and Jordan, the medicine made him really chatty.” Maggie raises her eyebrows comically and it gets a laugh out of you, the worry melting off your face slightly, you were intrigued to see your brother hopped up on medication. You would definitely have to get a video for Jordan and Kim, for prosperity.
Kim gives you a look, and you keep giggling, both of you would undoubtedly get a kick out of Kevin saying cute and stupid stuff.
Maggie steps forward, nodding in the direction of a cubicle, “Come on, we’ve kept you long enough. He’s in T4.”
-
The sight that greets you when you enter the cubicle isn’t as bad as your mind had conjured, but it’s still enough to make tears quickly spring to your eyes. Kevin’s soft glazed-over expression goes from slight loopiness to sadness within seconds as he sees how upset you are.
“Hey, little queen, come here. It’s all good, I’m fine.” Kevin is sitting on the bed with his right arm securely bandaged, his lip is split and he’s got a colourful bruise under his eye, there are a few scratches on his cheeks and neck, but really all things considered he was okay.
Kim moves to one side, touched by the scene as she reads through Kevin’s case notes on the table beside him, trying to give you some privacy in your distress.
“Kev, please don’t get hurt anymore.” You murmur, your voice muffled by his good shoulder as you let yourself be cuddled. Your big brother always could make you feel safe, even though he was the one who was hurt.
“I’ll always be trying to stay safe, baby girl. They just surprised me, but the unit had my back, it’s all good.”
He presses a kiss to the side of your head, leaning back from the embrace to speak to Kim, still keeping a comforting hand on your arm. He had spotted you were wearing one of his hoodies again, but given the circumstances, he didn't have the heart to tease you about it.
“Thank you for coming, Burge. And for taking care of this one.”
“Anytime, partner. And she’s the best company out of the three of you.” Kim winks at you with a grin, and Kevin laughs, nodding.
“That’s truth, I can’t lie.”
“We good to go, are you feeling ready?” Kim queries, worried for her friend just as you had been, though it was no surprise to your observant self that she was better at staying calm, she was an adult after all. One of the most level-headed, cool, fun and put-together ones you knew.
Kevin nods, pushing up off the bed with a wince, you want to ask if he’s okay but you don’t want to smother him. So you just silently link your arm with his, supporting him even though you knew you’d never be able to hold your brother up. He was much too tall and strong, yet it still comforted you to at least be by his side. He smiled gratefully down at you, nudging you gently.
“I’m a lucky big brother, I ever tell you that?” His eyes twinkle with affection, feeling supremely tired after his day, looking forward to being home and safe with you, Jordan and Kim - who would undoubtedly stick around to help out for a bit.
You swallow the lump in your throat, not feeling ready to cry yet again, you smile in surprise at Kevin,
“No… but, I’m lucky too. You’re the best parent, I don’t need anyone else.” You sigh, content and relieved that he really did seem okay, walking him out to the parking lot with Kim. You had meant what you said, but you said it with such a casualness that you had just carried on walking, not noticing the silent tears of pride and love that escape from Kevin’s eyes.
He really couldn’t feel any luckier, even on a day where he’d been punched out and shot.

Deadly Call
Pairing: Kevin Atwater x Halstead! reader
Summary: A routine check in turns deadly when Y/n is ambushed, injured, and held hostage while out on patrol
Requested: Yes, by @kloy344
Warnings: major character death, mentions of getting shot/blood
Word Count: 2,235 Words
"Kev, I really have to go," I tell my boyfriend, who, when I came to say goodbye, wouldn't let me leave the bed.
"Call in sick," Kevin proposed. "That way you can stay in bed with me for awhile longer."
"You have work too," I remind him. "And I am not going to inconvenience Platt. She'll have me on crossing duty for a week!"
"But Y/n," Kevin groaned.
"Kevin," I mock back. "I really have to go."
Kevin sighed. "Fine. Try to be safe, okay?"
"Okay," I promise and lean down to peck his lips. "I'll text you on my lunch break." Grabbing all of my things, I left the apartment and climbed into my car before heading off to work. Once I arrived at the 21st District, I made my way inside to meet up with my partner and get my assignment for the day.
"You're late," Platt scolded.
"Would you believe me if I told you I was only late because of Kevin?" I ask.
"Atwater would never inconvenience me," Platt claimed and glanced over at the computer next to her. "You and Huntsman are patrolling around Pilsen today. Here are your keys. Grab your radios and get going."
"Thank you, Sarge. Have a great day," I wish my boss and take off in search of my partner.
Noah Huntsman and I had been patrol partners for the last 2 years. We were both fresh out of the academy and assigned to the 21st, him because his father used to work out of there and me because of my older brother, Jay. The two of us had grown to become best friends, and because of that, we had complete trust in each other when it came to our job. Most of the patrol cops who worked alongside us at the 21st knew us as Huntsman and Halstead, the iconic duo. I'm pretty sure the only other partnership that could beat ours was Kim Burgess and Kevin Atwater, my boyfriend. Their partnership was legendary, but now, the two worked in Intelligence, the most elite unit in Chicago.
"Howdy, partner," Noah greeted me as I met him in the breakroom where he was just finishing his cup of coffee. "You're late."
"Yeah yeah yeah," I mutter. "I know. I already got lectured by Platt."
"You were getting a little lovin' from Officer Atwater, weren't you?" Noah pushed.
I shrugged. "Maybe. I got our assignment for this shift. Patrol in Pilsen."
"All right. Ooh, for lunch we should stop at that Mexican place that makes the most amazing steak tacos," Noah brought up.
"Noah, you have the best ideas. Tacos it is," I agree and look at the clock hanging on the wall behind him. "We should get going. I don't want to get scolded at by Platt. Again."
................................................
"I swear, those tacos will be the death of me," Noah declared. "But at least if I die, I'll have done it eating something delicious."
I laughed. "You're ridiculous."
"Units in the 21. We've got calls about shots fired on Western and 47th."
"That's only a few blocks away," Noah pointed out.
"This is 2113. We're a few blocks away from Western and 47th. Responding now," I announce into my radio. Noah stepped on the gas as I flicked on the police lights, the familiar blaring alarm sounding out as we drove off down the street. In less than 2 minutes, we arrived at the address, a large abandoned building at the end of the block. Noah and I both exited the vehicle, hands resting on our guns as we took a few hesitant steps forward. I strained my ears to listen for the sound of movement or gunfire, but I couldn't hear anything. I turned to Noah, confusion gracing my face. "You hear anything?"
Noah shook his head and glanced around. "No. You?"
Before I could even respond, a gunshot rang out, and then, all of sudden, blood was spattering against my face. I looked over just in time to see my partner fall to the ground, a bullet hole smoking right between his eyes. My gaze moved to the abandoned building, and when I caught sight of a man with his gun aimed at me, I pulled mine out of my holster and shot at him. In response, the man took off to find a place to hide to dodge the bullets, and I bent down next to Noah. My fingers shook violently as I placed them on the side of his neck to feel for a pulse, and when I couldn't find one, tears welled up in my eyes. But I couldn't stay there long because the man was firing his gun at me again. I dove behind the police cruiser, my hand reaching up to grab the radio adorning the top of my vest.
"This is 2113. Shots fired at the police on 47th and Western. My partner's down. I need some backup now," I urge.
Just as I poked around the squad car to scan the area, a bullet flew at me, hitting me dead in the shoulder. I cried out in pain and clutched at the wound, and my hands were met with warm, sticky blood. My fingers were stained a dark red as I put pressure on my shoulder, but I was losing too much blood. I couldn't control myself as my hand fell slack, and my eyes began to slowly close. The last thing I saw was the fuzzy image of a man hovering over me.
Kevin's POV
"What's the situation, Sarge?" I quiz as I put on my bullet proof vest.
"A patrol officer was killed in a gun fight outside this building. His partner is being held hostage inside with an angry offender. We don't know if anyone else is in there, but we believe the other officer is hurt. We're trying to establish a line of communication now," Voight informed me.
"Atwater," Platt called out and waved me down. "We need to talk." As I began making my way over to her. Two officers pushed a gurney past me, and on it was the body of the dead police officer. I only saw his face for a split second, but I immediately recognized him.
"Platt, please don't tell me that's who I think it is," I beg to the desk sergeant.
"Kevin," Platt started.
"Trudy, please," I plead. "Tell me the truth."
"Y/n's inside," Platt confirmed.
"Oh my...." I trailed off, unsure of what to say. My heart dropped, and a wave of nervousness trailed over me. My girlfriend was trapped in there with a dangerous criminal, and right now, we didn't have any way to contact him.
"There's something else. We found a puddle of blood behind the police car that can't belong to Officer Huntsman. We have reason to believe Y/n was injured in the initial gunfight, and based on the amount of blood, it doesn't look good," Platt told me.
At that moment, Jay's truck screeched to a halt a few dozen yards away, and Jay hopped out of the driver's seat, his eyes scanning the area. When they landed on me, Jay began to make his way towards me, and I met up with him a bit away from everyone else.
"Kevin, I just got a call from Hailey saying I needed to get over here right away. She said it had something to do with Y/n. What's wrong?" Jay asked. I didn't even need to answer, because Jay spotted the gurney with Y/n's dead partner on top of it just like I had. I could see the color drain from his face, and his shoulders dropped. "No no no. Don't tell me she's dead. Please don't tell me she's dead."
"She's not dead," I assure him. "But we think she's injured pretty bad. The offender is holding her hostage inside the building, and right now, we've got no line of communication."
"Well then we go in there and get her back," Jay countered. "All of us can suit up and be ready in 5 minutes."
"Jay, you know we can't do that. If he gets spooked, he could become even more violent than he already is and hurt one of us. Or worse, he could kill Y/n," I share. "We've just gotta be patient and hope we can figure this whole situation out as quickly as possible."
Y/n's POV
I continued coming in and out of consciousness for who knows how long. My shoulder ached, a searing pain arising from where the bullet was still embedded in my skin. Blood was staining the front of my uniform, and my arm was covered in the sticky red substance. While the man who had shot me hadn't killed me yet, he was pacing around the warehouse, muttering to himself. From what I could tell, he had refused to talk to anyone outside, and that wasn't good. Luckily though, it wasn't long before the front door to the warehouse was knocked down, and in seconds, the offender was surrounded dozens of feet away from me.
"Y/n!" Kevin shouted and ran over to me, my older brother not too far behind him. "Everything's gonna be okay. We've got paramedics coming in now. Just hold on for me. Please hold on."
After that, I had blacked out again. I didn't know what was happening or if I was even still alive, but all of my questions were answered when I came to in a hospital room. My shoulder was bandaged heavily, and an IV was connected to my arm. The good news was, I couldn't feel to much pain from my arm. The bad news was, I had remembered everything that happened.
"Look who's awake," Jay said and entered the room holding a cup of coffee.
"Feels good to be back from the almost dead," I joke weakly and glance to the side, seeing my bloody police uniform in a bag on the table a few feet away. All at once, the memories flooded back. I remember my partner's face as he took his last breath. And the blood. There was so much blood. That's when tears started falling down my cheeks, and sobs began to make their way out of my throat.
"Hey. What's wrong?" Jay questioned and set his cup of coffee down.
"Noah's dead," I choke out. "I-I saw him die. I saw all of the blood leaving his body. My partner, he's gone." Jay sat down on the edge of my bed and pulled me towards him, allowing me to cry into his shirt. With my good hand, I gripped the cotton material as I sobbed some more, the tears seeming like they would never stop.
"I'm sorry about your partner," Jay confessed and rubbed his hand up and down my back. "I know you two were close." Just then, Kevin appeared at the front of the room, his hands tucked into the front pockets of his jeans. Him and Jay made eye contact, and then Jay squeezed me softly before getting up. "I'm gonna go find Will and make sure he's not freaking out. You going to be okay if I leave for a bit?"
I nodded and wiped at my eyes to get rid of the tears. "Yeah. I'll be okay. Kevin's here to look over me. Thank you, Jay." Jay sent me a small smile as he left the room, taking his cup of coffee with him. Seconds later, Kevin fully entered the room, his eyes scanning my face.
"I thought you were dead," Kevin admitted. "When Platt told me that you were hurt and that you'd lost a lot of blood, I almost gave myself a heart attack. And when we found you......."
"Kev, I'm gonna be okay," I reassure him and push back a new set of tears that were trying to emerge from my eyes. "Can you just lay next to me and hold me? Please?"
"I can do that," Kevin affirmed. I moved over to give Kevin some space, and he climbed into the small hospital bed with me. I laid my head on his shoulder, careful not to jostle my injured arm, and Kevin wrapped his arm around me. "Listen. You're gonna need some help the next few weeks with your arm and stuff, so what if you stayed with me? Permanently."
I looked up at my boyfriend. "Kevin Atwater, are you asking me to move in with you?"
Kevin nodded. "Yes. Yes I am. But if you're not ready to take that step, and it's just too much for you right now, I understand."
"I would love to move in with you," I say. "Now, I don't want to have to think about the terrible thing that just happened to me, so could you just talk to me? It could be about anything. I just want to hear your voice."
Kevin laughed. "Okay. Since the topic was brought up, I'm excited to have you move in with me. However, a few things are gonna have to change."
"Oh yeah? Like what?" I quiz.
"Like the fact that you cannot leave your shoes by the door anymore because I always trip over them," Kevin told me. "And lets see. What else. Oh, I've got some good suggestions. Sit tight. We might be here for a while."

Proxy
Kevin Atwater & Adam Ruzek
Pairing: Adam Ruzek x Halstead!Reader (platonic), Kevin Atwater x Halstead!Reader (platonic)
Description: Overprotective 'brothers', what would you do without them?
Words: 365
Requested: yes by anonymous; headcanon about adam and kev being protective of y/n halstead?
Warnings: fem reader, fluff, Kevin and Adam being overprotective, language.
A/N: Should I make a separate Halstead!Sister masterlist? I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors.
—
So we all know that the one and only Jay Halstead is your older brother.
But what people don't consider is that practically everyone at Intelligence is basically your older sibling by proxy.
For example Kevin and Adam.
Never, and I mean never let them be with Jay when something is going down that concerns you.
Which is why right now you were very thankful they hadn't alerted Jay what your current situation was.
It wasn't really a situation per se, but they saw it that way.
Typical really.
You scrape your knee one time on the icy streets of Chicago and all of a sudden you're under their close supervision.
Now here they were interrogating you at the local diner.
So maybe you had lunch with a friend who just so happened to be a guy?
Not like you were doing drugs or anything.
Plus, that's all the two of you were. Friends.
Although Kevin and Adam weren't hearing it. Well mostly Adam.
Kevin was just there to get the truth out of you.
Which Adam was making too difficult since he couldn't stop the threats against your friend from spilling out of his mouth.
“Ruz.” Kevin tried to get Adam’s attention.
“What?” Adam questioned.
“Listen to the kid for a second.” Kevin sighed.
Fast forward two minutes Kevin was left chuckling as Adam stared blankly at you.
Who could’ve thought that all you had been doing was brainstorming over a history project?
“Dude, her backpack has been there the whole time.” Kevin rolled his eyes, amused.
“Oh.” Adam nodded as his gaze drifted to the backpack residing next to you in the booth.
You and Kevin shared a look before breaking out into loud laughs.
“Sue me for trying to protect her. You were in on it too, Kev.” Adam sighed in defeat.
“Yeah, because you definitely needed to be an asshole with those threats.” Kevin laughed.
Adam mumbled something about trying to be a good brother and stood up to head out to his car.
You and Kevin followed him while mocking his threats before getting into the car.
Yeah, clearly Kevin was the more chill person between him, Adam, and Jay.

I’m Finally Home
Summary : Y/N is an NCIS special agent in Washington DC, during a case she gets held hostage. Once the team finds her, she wanted some time off. So she goes the only place she knows and loves and is safe, her home town of Chicago where she stays with her brother Kevin Atwater.
Pairing : Kevin Atwater x Sister Reader
Warnings : Fluff, Angst, Kidnapped
Main Masterlist
Y/N POV
I’m currently in a concrete cell room, laying on an old dirty mattress, which was cover in many different stains, alone and cold. I’ve been in this room for the past month. I’m not sure how much longer I can take if this. I’m was nearly asleep when I started hearing gun shots and people fighting and shouting. I back myself into the corner of the called room hoping nobody would come inside. After about 5 minutes the noise calms down and another 5 after than the door of my cell opens slowly. This is it. I’m going to die, today. I close my eyes and I can hear the footsteps getting closer.
“Atwater” I hear Gibbs say. I open my eyes and it was true Gibbs was standing in front of me, hold out a hand to pull my up. I get on my feet and collapse into his arms.
“Come on, let’s get you out of here.” He says while starting to move my out of room. Gibbs radios in that he has found me and to all meet back at the meeting place. I stay ahold of Gibbs and walk with him outside where I see the team. McGee, Bishop, Torres. I smile. McGee walks over to me and wraps me in a blanket and then I can hear it, the helicopter that was coming to get us back home.
Time skip – Back in America.
We’re now back on American soil. We enter the NCIS building and I got straight to the washing rooms, and get cleaned up and get changed. When I was finished I made my way into the bull pen and everyone looks at me and doesn’t say anything. I continue walking and head upstairs to speak to Director Vance. I knock on his door and he calls me in.
“Hello Director” I say while closing the door and walking over to his desk.
“How are you doing agent Atwater.”
“I would like to ask for some time off. I want to go home for awhile, see my family.” I say while playing with my hands.
He slowly nods. “I completely understand.”
After setting out details, I have 2 months off. He gives me to paperwork I need to give to Gibbs and I say goodbye to Vance I make my way downstairs. I walk to the bull pen and pass over the paperwork to Gibbs and he looks at it and looks up to me, and gives his knowing smile and nod. I head to my desk collect my badge and gun, my bag and put on my coat. I say goodbye to my team and head downstairs and headed to my apartment and bought a plane ticket to Chicago.
Time skip – 2 days Chicago.
I just landed in Chicago and collect my bags from luggage claim and heads outside and get into a cab. After about 45 minutes we are parked outside the 21st district. I pay the driver and get my bags from the trunk and stand outside the district. I still have bruises and cuts on my face and whole body, and I know Kevin is going to go all big brother on me. I make my way into the district and walk to the front desk. The desk Sargent gives me a looks and asks if I’m ok.
“Yes, I’m fine. I here to see Kevin Atwater. Please.” I say. She starts to walk around from her desk and walks over to a staircase that was gated shut.
“I’m going to have to ask you to wait here for a moment” she says before opening the gate.
“Can you let him know Y/N is here.” I say
She makes her way upstairs and after about a minute she walks back down and lets me up. I slowly walk up the stairs and carry my bags with me. When I reach the top of the stairs, again everyone stops and looks at me.
“What the h ok happened to you?” Kevin says while walking up to me.
“Oh you know. Just getting kidnapped by the Mexican drug cartel.” I say with a little laugh.
Kevin walks up to me and wraps me in his arms.
“Can I stay with you for like 2 months. I just wanted to be home.” I say while looking up at him.
“Of course.” He lets me go and gives me a kiss on the head and introduces me to his team.
“This is Antonio Dawson, Jay Halstead, Harley Upton, Kim Burgess and this is my boss Sargent Hank Voight.”
I shak all there hands and after shaking Hanks hand I introduce myself to the room. “Hi, I’m Special Agent Y/N Atwater. NCIS.” I wave. I turn back to his Sargent. “Do you think it is possible for Kevin to take like a 30 minute break to drop me at his place please.” Voight gives the all clear and off we go to Kevin’s apartment.
We walk into Kevin’s apartment and sit down. “Thanks for letting me stay here. I couldn’t stay in Washington after what happened. I just needed to breath a different kind of air, you know.”
“Yeah, I understand. You hungry I could order you some food before I head back to work.” He says while getting out his phone.
“Yeah please. I could eat.” I say. He orders me some food, and gives me another hug.
“When I get back from work, we can talk.” He says while giving me a hug, and then he left for work.
Time skip – Evening.
I was sitting in the living room eating some cookies I found in Kevin’s kitchen when he comes home.
“Hey, sorry. I hope you don’t mind I got hungry again.” I say gesturing to the cookies.
“It’s ok.” Kevin’s says while sitting down next to me. “What happened?”
“I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time I guess. We were working on a case a petty officer died. Overdose and while we were looking for the suspect, I walked into a room and someone hit me on the back of the head, and I was out. I then woke up and the nightmare started. I was alone. I slept on a dirty mattress and once a day they would come in the room and just do horrible things to me. I couldn’t break I needed to stay strong. I did. I was strong. I was there for a month but they found me, I made it through. But I just needed time. That’s why I came here. I came home.”
Chicago was my home. This is where I grew up. I love it here.
“I’m glad you could talk to me about this.” Kevin says while getting himself a cookie.
“I never could keep things from you, that’s why I knew I needed to come home, otherwise I wouldn’t of been able to talk about what happened.” I say.
I slowly started to fall asleep in Kevin’s arms. I was home. I was finally with my family. I’m finally home.

bullseye 🎯
pairing: jay halstead x halstead!sister reader
word count: 1349
request: may I request a halstead!sister where she's in chicago special forces, corrupted cop and his team takes PD under hostage. so special forces intervene with it, while three other members take downstairs she takes upstairs with her partner, she kills the cops girlfriend with a silent pistol, gets into her uniform and disguises herself as the cops girlfriend but when he turns his back she shoots him. after the rescue mission, her team call her bullseye because she’s known to kill someone with a single shot.
author’s note: my first time writing halstead!sister reader and honestly it was so much fun! i did change up the request a little bit, but i hope you still enjoyed this anon :)
Your brother Jay had been taken hostage along with two other members of Intelligence: Kim Burgess and Kevin Atwater.
You were a part of a special task force within the CPD, created for situations such as this one.
However, this was a unique situation because a corrupt cop (Jeremy Reynolds) and his team had managed to take hold of other officers. Usually, you were dealing with drug lords or other criminals of that sort, but today you were rescuing your own people from a team of backstabbers.
Knowing how much Jay hated corrupt cops, you could only imagine the anger and frustration he was feeling right now, but you had to focus on finding him first.
"Alright team, what do we got?" you asked the agents around you.
"Currently looking through a list of known associates and their addresses. They're most likely tied up in a warehouse somewhere," your partner Spencer responded.
"Okay, keep working the case. I know someone who used to work with Reynolds, I'm gonna see if they know anything," you said.
You called up Walter Sager, someone you used to work with and who also happened to be one of the few clean cops in your suspect's unit.
"Walter, it's y/n. I need your help."
"Hey, yeah I heard about Jay. Anything I can do to help," he responded.
"Listen, you know this guy pretty well. You worked with him. Can you think of anywhere he might have taken them? Did he have a place he went to to get away from everyone?"
"Let me think... he would sometimes go to this pond..."
"No, we need somewhere where he could hold three officers hostage."
"Alright, alright. I don't know off the top of my head. Like I said before, I had no idea he was dirty which means he could have been lying about where he was going this entire time. Let me search his desk for you."
You heard Walter shuffling on the other end of the phone, presumably going through Reynold's desk looking for any clues that could lead you to your brother.
"Got something. He's got an old postcard here with a cabin on it, and it's addressed to a strange address. Wanna run it?"
"Yeah, go ahead Sager, what's the address?"
"114 Delaware Lane."
You typed the address into the system. "Yup. Checks out, it's a cabin located in a secluded area, registered under his name. Come on team, it's time for boots on the ground."
"And Sager, thank you for your help." You hung up the phone and ran to get your gear on.
—
As your team pulled up to the cabin, you couldn't help but worry if Jay was okay. You knew that he was fully capable of taking care of himself, but what if something went wrong? What if Kim or Kevin were hurt too?
"Boss, you ready?" One of your agents, Jordan asked.
"Yeah, yeah. Jordan, you and Spence are going in the front. I'm gonna head around back, and Elle, you can cover me."
"What about me?" Colton asked.
"You're gonna stay here and try to get a visual inside, okay?"
Now that everyone knew their positions, you got out of the car and headed towards the back with Elle.
You signaled her to get closer as you bridged the distance between yourselves and the back door.
"Alright, I got a visual inside. Two floors. Looks like two male hostages upstairs and one female downstairs. I think Reynolds is upstairs somewhere," Colton keyed in.
"Copy that. Alright team, I'm going upstairs with Elle. Spence and Jordan take downstairs," you ordered.
You heard the sound of the front door fall down and followed suit through the back door.
"Hey! Chicago PD! Put the gun down, you know how it works, bud." Spencer said as he apprehended one of the dirty cops on Reynold's team.
You scanned the room looking for Jay, but your eyes landed on Kim who was tied up in the corner of the room.
"Kim! Are you okay? Where's Jay?" You asked her.
"I'm good, I'm good. Listen, Jay and Kevin are upstairs. Reynolds is up there with him, I have no idea what his endgame is so please be careful."
Without hesitation, you ran up the stairs knowing that Reynolds had to have heard the noise downstairs and your time was running out. You held your gun out in front of you and slowed down as you reached the second floor.
You wanted to keep quiet to see if you could surprise Reynolds, and sure enough, his back was turned as you reached the landing. Jay and Kevin were tied up, back to back, and you prayed that neither of them would make a sound to alert Reynolds of your presence.
The dirty cop was pacing the room and talking to himself, trying to find a way out of his impossible mess. His frantic state allowed you enough time to make eye contact with Jay and you nodded to each other, a silent signal that you knew what you were doing.
People say that siblings don't get along very well when they're young, but you and Jay were different. With just a two year age gap, him being older, you two got along better than he and Will did at times. You two were inseparable, and you clearly looked up to him, following his footsteps and joining the academy as soon as you turned 21.
Fast forward a few years, and now you're saving him from a hostage situation. As you assessed the situation, you took another step forward to get a better angle.
You froze.
Your heart dropped as you heard the step under you creak.
Reynolds whipped his head around and immediately grabbed Jay by his throat, "Don't come any closer or I will shoot him!"
You had been in this situation more times than you would've like, but never with someone you cared about as much as Jay.
You took a deep breath and tried to remain calm. "Okay, okay. I'm going to stay right here. Can you please let these officers go and then you and I can talk, okay?"
Reasoning with him did not work. "Y/n, I'm not stupid. I know what you guys do to dirty cops. I might as well be a dead man."
You sighed, "You're right, Reynolds. But there is no need to make this even worse on yourself. You haven't killed anyone yet, you can still avoid a life sentence."
"Are you kidding? My life is already over. There's nothing you can do about it." Reynolds raised the gun up to Jay's head, but before he could pull the trigger, you fired your gun right at Reynolds' head.
The three of you looked at the body on the floor in silence, staring at the bullet lodged in Reynolds' forehead.
"Damnnnn y/n!" Kevin was the first to speak.
"Yeah y/n, what the heck?? That was a risky shot, you could have killed me!" Jay cried out.
"Oh, of course I save your life and you're complaining!" you snap back, only a little mad and more relieved than anything.
"I'll give you your sister of the year award later, now can you please untie me?"
As you untied Jay and Kevin, the rest of your team started filing in up the stairs.
"What happened up here?" Spencer asked.
"Apprehended the suspect. Someone roll the coroner," you replied matter-of-factly.
"Apprehended the suspect? Guys, she's just being humble. She straight up shot the guy in the head while he was using Jay as a human shield. Her aim is incredible." Kevin spilled out.
"Wow, sounds like your sister's a real bullseye shot, Jay." Colton commented.
"She got that from me." Jay chuckled and put his arm around your shoulders, pulling you in for a hug. "Seriously though, thanks for saving my life, little sis."
"I would say 'anytime,' except I never want this to happen again." Your face was half joking, half serious.
"I promise not to get taken hostage again. Now, Molly's?"

Retrospect
Jay Halstead x Halstead!Sister Reader is on there way to a party (they aren’t suppose to be going to) and get into a car accident. They inevitably have to call Jay (who is less than impressed)
Warning: Discussion of car accident and yelling
Taking in the scene, 1 car with a seriously messed up grill and 1 completely spun out, totaled car complete with all the passenger side airbags open. This was not how Y/N was planning her day to end. And to think today had started with Jay telling her the ground rules of staying home alone.
“Okay, rules while you're home alone! 1. No parties! 2. No boys! 3. No drugs 4. No drinking
5. No driving the small car unless absolutely necessary and especially not past 10pm! 6. If anything happens and you can’t get ahold of me, Will, or Hailey, call -”
“Call Kevin or Adam, I know the drill Jay,” stated Y/N while cutting off her brother.
Moving to hug her brother, she added, “I’ll be fine! I’m 16. I know the drill by now! Now you have to get going before you hold up Hailey.”
Really wishing she listened to those rules more carefully, she tried to breathe herself out of a panic attack.
“So maybe, I was driving to a party I wasn’t meant to be going to. So maybe I was driving the small car, even though I really shouldn’t have. So what if I crashed the car and have to call Jay and tell him that he has to turn around and come back from his trip to Wisconsin with Hailey.” she was beginning to spiral.
“Hunny, maybe it would be a good idea to call your brother” informed the good samaritan, who had run to the scene of the crash when it happened.
“I can't, he is going to kill me” Y/N muttered through sobs.
The woman walked over and hugged Y/N and spoke, “hunny, I think your brother will just be happy you're okay. Cars are replaceable, people not so much.”
Sighing, Y/N took out her cell phone and pushed the 1 on her speed dial.
Letting it ring, Y/N silently hoped Jay wouldn’t pick up, so that she could call Kevin or Adam to save the day.
“Miss me already kiddo?” spoke Jay, when the ringing stopped.
‘Shit! He picked up’ silently exclaimed Y/N.
“Uh, hey Jay. I just am calling cause I uh um” Y/N stuttered
“Are you ok? What’s going on?” frantically asked Jay through the phone.
“I’m okay, but uh I got into a car accident,” mumbled Y/N.
“I’m sorry, it sounded like you said you got into a car accident?!? That can’t possibly be right, you were told explicitly to stay home and not drive! Considering you only have your permit!” exclaimed Jay!
“Emma had invited me to a party. I know I shouldn’t have gone, but I wanted to. I didn’t even make it to the party. I got into the crash before I got there!”
Hearing Jay audibly sigh on the other end was agony! Really it was all Emma’s fault if you looked at it that way.
“Y/N! Is Jay still there?”
“No, what’s going on Emma?” you asked while channel surfing.
“There is a huge party going down at Jefferson Ridge at 7!”
“Remind me again what the significance of Jefferson Ridge is?”
“Make-out peak you doofus! I heard Jake Evans is going to be there and I heard through the grapevine he wants to kiss you!” squealed Emma into the phone.
Rolling your eyes, you checked the time on the microwave in the kitchen behind you and spoke, “Okay, I’ll come. But I have to be home before 10! Jay is already going to kill me if he knew I was going to a party!”
“Hell yeah! I’ll let Stacey know you're coming, so she can tell Jake! I’m so excited for you guys!”
“Y/N, here is what you're going to do!” stated Jay, while pulling you back to the present.
“I called Kevin and Adam. They are going to meet you back at the apartment and are going to stay with you until Hailey and I get back. We will probably be home are 3am tomorrow morning”
“Wait, Jay! What am I supposed to do about the car?” you asked nervously.
Sighing, Jay spoke through gritted teeth, “your going to get back in the car and drive it home, that’s what your going to do”
Nervously, you bit your bottom lip, sighed and spoke, “I can’t, the car is totaled.” Bracing for the wrath of your brother, you squeezed your eyes shut and instinctively pulled the phone a few inches away from your ear.
“IT’S TOTALED! SEE THIS IS WHY I DIDN’T WANT YOU DRIVING! I AM 4HOURS AWAY! I'M SO PISSED RIGHT NOW! UGH! HAILEY IS GOING TO CALL KEVIN AND ADAM TO PICK YOU UP! HOW DID YOU EVEN GET HIT!”
“Uh, I was turning left and didn’t see the other car because it was blocked by a line of cars” you muttered.
Drumming on the steering wheel, you made your way towards Jefferson Ridge. The GPS was taking you a way you were not very familiar with and you decided it was best to turn around. So merging into the left turn lane, you got ready to enter one of the parking lots. Lot’s of cars were zooming past on your left and you had no clear entryway. That was until the car beside you slowed to a stop and began to wave you through. Beginning to turn the car, out of your peripheral vision, you notice the grill of a giant SUV barreling towards the passenger side door of your small Toyota. The next thing you know you're opening your eyes and staring down at the steering wheel. Looking around, you assess the inside of the car; the wires dangling out from the glovebox and the huge indent from the SUV no doubt. You also took note of the airbags deployed on one side of the car. Quickly you unbuckled and exited the car and backed up. The car had spun out and was now perched on the grass.
“Who got hit?” calmly asked Jay again, pulling you out of your thoughts again.
“A mom and a little girl” you stated, while looking at the two other victims.
“How old?”
“What?” you asked confused by his question.
“How old is the little girl, Y/N!”
“Oh, she looks to be no more than 7 I think,” you respond hesitantly.
“I’m so mad at you right now!” stated Jay.
“But, Kevin and Adam will be there shortly. I’m going to hang up now. But don’t think this conversation is over and don’t think that you are walking away from this without a punishment!” calmly sputtered Jay.
“I know” was all you said and the phone call ended.

The Other Ruzek Kid [1]
Kevin Atwater x Reader
description: Kevin finds out that Adam has a sibling and can't help but falling for his best friend's little sister
word count: 1.1k
warning: parental neglect; brotherly love; fluff
a/n: not my most finest work, but wanted to get it out
masterlist
Growing up with Adam was fun, annoying, and eye-opening. Adam was the overprotective brother you didn’t know you needed. He was constantly looking out for you, whether you saw the traps, or not. He took you to places where your parents wouldn’t. He would walk you to and from school every day, and when he got old enough, he drove. He annoyed you to high heavens in your teen years, yet brought imagination to your childhood. Adam was the father that yours wouldn’t be for you. Bob, Disco Bob, Bob Ruzek; he wasn’t your father by choice. The moment he found out he was having a daughter, he shut himself off to you. He was great to Adam, which was a fit of jealousy you had of Adam; however, never held it against your big brother.
Your mother mentally checked out your sophomore year of high school, to which you moved in with Adam at college soon after. It wasn’t that your mother didn’t love you, she did, just after the heartache of her break up with Bob, and then her second husband, it got harder for her to take care of herself, let alone you. Adam made sure to take care of you, and that you would never be alone again. He was your whole world. You adored and looked up to Adam. That changed when you stopped by to his Intelligence team of the Chicago Police Department at the 21st district, you wanted to surprise him.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” Adam gently grabbed your arm and pulled you to the side.
“I came to surprise you. I made cookies for your team.” You smiled wide. It got worse for Adam when Hank walked up behind them.
“Uh Sarge, this is my baby sister, Y/N. Y/N, this is Sargeant Hank Voight.” Adam smiled uneasily.
You shook Voight’s hand politely, “Sargeant Voight. I’ve heard many great things about you. It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Eh, well it’s nice to meet you too. Funny how Adam’s never mentioned you. Would be nice to know all of our family in order to keep them safe.” Hank looked toward Adam with an emotion of surprise and annoyance. You looked up at Adam shocked, “You don’t talk about me?” A hurt expression ran across your face. You chuckled softly, “Uhm, it was nice meeting you, Sargeant. I hope you have a lovely day.” With that, you turned your heel and practically ran down the stairs.
“Y/N. Hey,” Adam followed, grabbing your arm. “I didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want to interfere with you and my work. If you saw what cases we get daily, I don’t want you mixed up in that.” You nodded.
“I get it. Your coworkers have their families on their desks and talk about them. You don’t. Even when your Sargeant asks you, you still lie. Does Kim know who I am?” You moved you am back from his hold. “Do you know how badly that hurts? We’re not kids anymore Adam, don’t feel the need to worry about me. Focus on your job, I’ll see you in another life.” Tears rolling down your face, you left the district.
Adam sighed closing his eyes, leaning against the brick outside. Turning quickly, he punched the brick causing his knuckles to scratch the skin and bleed.
One week has gone by. Adam won’t stop calling and texting you. He stopped by your work once, but you were in a meeting. You walked up the steps of your apartment building and saw him sitting against your door. Sighing you unlocked the door as he stood up. “Can we please talk? You need to know this.” You nodded and let him in.
Adam slowly walked into the living room. You knew why he was here but still didn’t want to hear any of his excuses.
The past week had been hell for you. Work was giving you the runaround, your emotions were already high with the Adam situation, and nothing seemed to fall into place since then.
“Y/N. I love you with everything in me. You are my baby sister. I know the emotional tug-of-war you’ve gone through with mom and dad. The line of work I’m in, the things I see… I cannot put you through that. I need to protect you. I didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want you to get kidnapped, hurt, or killed.” Adam gently cupped your face. “You mean too much to me.”
You smiled, leaning into his touch. “Does this mean I can meet them?” With an hesitant chuckle, “Yes, come to Molly’s tonight. They’ll be there.”
You arrived at Molly’s a couple hours later, changed and clean from work. Scouring the room until you found Adam sitting with Kim. The rest of the team showed up and was quick to share happy hello’s. You knew this would be a night to remember. Both you and Adam shared funny and endearing moments from your childhood and embarrassing ones from your teenage years.
“Wait,” Hailey chuckled, “You’re telling me Adam was prom king and then his date left and hooked up with the science teacher under the bleachers?”
“Yeah, and he came home with the best food her daddy’s credit card could buy.”
They all shared a shocked chuckle. “Who knew Adam could be so petty?”
“Oh that was all me. I taught him that.” You smiled wide, sipping your drink. The next couple of hours was filled with laughter, drinks, and so many cop stories.
It started getting late, and while you were getting your jacket on, Kevin smoothly glided himself next to you.
“Well, if it’s not too much to ask, can I see that smile again? Maybe tomorrow at The Village?” His adorable smile shown brightly.
“Hm. I don’t know. Need to check my calendar. Think I have plans with this really cute guy.”
“Oh?” Kevin smirked.
“Yeah. He’s got these eyes that can make your knees weak. Not to mention that smile.” You turned to walk out with Kevin. “He’s tall too, and oh those muscles.” Kevin stopped you outside the bar and gently leaned you against the brick.
“I’d be a fool to say no. So, I’ll say yes, and can’t wait to see you there.” Kissing his cheek you walked down the street smiling with him chasing after you.

*****
“I’m not even sure I wanna know what she’s thinking about?” Kim stares at you and ponders to Trudy “I can tell you it’s not gonna be something, more someone” she raises her eyebrows
“What do you know that I don’t?” Kim leans forward in interest to be met with a smug looking Trudy “Come on Burgess, you’ve been in Intelligence long enough. You figure it out” She walks off to leave a puzzled Kim stood at the stairs into the department. You’re still glancing off into space, thoughts completely overwhelmed by a certain detective opposite you.
“Earth to Y/N? You with us?” Hailey nudges your chair as she walks past, you regain your composure but remain slumped in your seat with your feet kicked up on the desk “Uh yeah, sorry I was miles away” you mumble
“Come on then, who is it?” Adam questions from besides Kim who in turn lightly punches him on the arm with a stern look “What? You’re the one who told me to ask around, not my fault..” he trails off whilst rubbing his arm, like a knock from Kim would really hurt him, honestly.
“Don’t know what you mean” you continue to flick through your file but take a quick peek over to see Jay trying to contain his smile “Halstead looks rather happy with himself though” Atwater chimes in and sits on the edge of Jay’s desk to peer over at you
“Have you seen the victims sister? Of course he’s happy, she’s just his type” you glare over to Adam with a disgusted look “Are you serious? Her brother is in hospital right now and you’re trying to hit on her?”
“I spoke to Will, he’s gonna be fine just a few cuts and bruises” he defends “Oh” you scoff “Well that’s alright then, please continue with your conquest” you roll your eyes
“I don’t think I have a type” Jay speaks up from his side of the desk “Oh yeah? What makes you say that?” Kevin questions “Well I’d say my exes have been pretty different with nothing in common” he shrugs but Kim stifles a laugh “Apart from them all being psychos who have in one way or another tried to put the pretty boy in Intelligence in danger”.
Jay sneers and narrows his eyes at her “You’re one to talk with an ex like that” he gestures to Ruzek who’s jaw drops “What’s wrong with me?”. You shake your head back to him “I’m not answering that one”
You turn your attention back to the paperwork on your desk, grateful the heat has been directed away from you but your mind soon starts to think of Jay’s exes, did he really not have a type?
He started off as a friend you turned too after a drunk night but now formed a natural habit of ending up back at his place several nights a week and the feeling of emptiness when you were back at your apartment without him.
It was hard to know where his head was at and you were honestly too scared to ask, in fear that you wouldn’t get the answer you craved and it would make things awkward. As much as you had tried to convince yourself to not think too deeply into it, you had of course failed.
“Oh, she’s gone again” Adam clicks his fingers at the side of your face and you jump in your chair, unaware of how you had zoned out again “He must be something special” Kevin adds “What makes you so sure I’m thinking about a guy?” you throw back at them and the pair are stumped.
Adam looks over to Kevin in a panic but he returns the same look of alarm. “what are you all doing sitting here when we’ve got CCTV to be going over?” Voight storms into the room and everyone disperses from around your desk
“Sorry Sarge, we’re just guessing Y/N’s mystery man” Kim owns up “Or woman!” Adam holds his hands up in defeat and offers you a reassuring smile. You look over to Jay who seems to have got straight back into his paperwork without adding his normal cheeky comment, you don’t think anymore of it until you notice the smile that is spread on his face as he looks down at his desk. You furrow your brows but head into the storage room to collect the CCTV tapes.
“So, you’ve started stealing my socks now?” a voice startles you from over your shoulder, you turn round to see a smug looking Jay stood very close behind you. You do a quick scan of the room and luckily the coast is clear, it’s becoming more apparent that you’re more focused on keeping the two of you a secret than he is.
You look down and notice the white ankle socks that are peering out above your trainers “How can you be so sure they’re yours, detective?” you shrug your shoulder at him but he purses his lips in thought “Because I distinctively remember you putting them on this morning and strutting round in just those and a tshirt” you feel his stare beam down on you and you suddenly feel overwhelmed by his presence “Which I also believe was mine” he adds.
You feel the heat rise to your cheeks, it’s not like the rest of the group are going to be able to recognize a pair of socks. Right? Even in your own head you know it’s not feasible but your mind begins to twist it to think they’ve all worked it out and are now laughing and gossiping about you behind your back.
“Do you think they noticed?” you croak out and Jay nods his head in a silent laugh “Yeah, I’m sure the generic pair of white trainer socks really got them thinking” You drop your head to rest on his chest and groan “You never know Jay, they are detectives”.
He tries to remain serious but cannot believe the way you’re thinking “They could be out there talking about us right now, maybe we should think of a plan” you raise your eyebrows to try and express your concern but Jay just responds by bringing his hand to the back of your neck and pulling you towards him to place a kiss to your lips.
“What was that for?” you question but he just plants another chaste kiss to the top of your head as he wraps his arms around you “Stop being so cute”
