the reason why i want kenji and chuuya to interact so bad is that they are both so selfless that it hurts them, they both try to understand other people, help them, and think so much about other people in their life rather than themselves.
the way that that chuuya embraces anger as a defense mechanism and how kenji uses optimistic behavior as a defense mechanism so it can it can bottle up his anger is so interesting to me. then they're both so strong at a young age and had to persevere through so much like ugh.. the way that chuuya forgave verlaine after what he did to him and the way kenji chose to help tecchou after what he did to him..
and it's like you see them interact in wan and anthlogy. they get along so well there and i feel like they would in main manga too. they're both so understanding and like the parralels between corruption & kenji's unhinged side of his ability like.
they would be such a power duo.

OKK SEASON 2 CHAOS THEORY PICS LETS GOOOO
thank you jwct crew!!
I can’t really analyze that much out of the new pics they gave us
BUT we can see they all ditched the jackets - which could probably be cuz it’s humid or hot but it’s also likely they used it to patch up something (like they did for the bathing suits and the boat)
at first i thought they were at an island again (GIVE THEM A BREAK) but the boat prob took them to another country or something. I don’t get why going back to isla nublar would work with the plot we have so far (unless maybe the boat went there because of the labs?)
i also thought when i first saw it that they got an outfit change and was like “yay new outfits!!” but apparently not which also leads me to think that wherever the boat took them is where they’re gonna be for most (maybe even all of the season)
WHICH BRINGS US TO THE OTHER PIC
They all definitely have different reactions towards this person so I’m gonna write the way it looks to me
Darius : He’s the only one not looking at the person and instead looking at the weapon? Which makes me think that this isn’t their first reaction of whatever this is (ik that sounds confusing imma explain it again later.) Darius’s face also looks kinda confused and a little shocked? Which is interesting to me
Sammy: she looks scared. Terrified even. Someone also says she looks betrayed which i can def see. This reaction is also a lil confusing to me because most of the other times someone was threatening them she a determined look or was ready to kick them but she looks horrified in this so huh
yaz: she looks shocked not rlly scared like Sammy but just shocked. She doesn’t have as much as a strong reaction as the others (except Ben) she looks suprised but why isn’t she as scared or angry as the others?
kenji : his reactions probably the easiest to red since he’s angry 💯 but why is he angry?? Yes the obvious answer is that someone’s threatening to attack them but everyone else isn’t as angry maybe he knows them? Also something else I noticed that his mouth is a little open so he’s probably saying something - side note why is kenjis face so triangular 😭
ben: honestly his face is prob the hardest to read because of how neutral it is?? Like obviously it’s not fully blank or calm but it’s def more neutral than the others. He looks a little wary maybe and a little angry like kenji. Honestly idk but he def isn’t happy or bursting with joy I can tell you that
okay so that was all the reactions I got from them in that picture
NOW ADRESSING SOME THEORIES I HEARD AND MY THEORIES
So I already saw people saying it could be Brooklyn which I can see but at the same time also not? like #1 why is Brooklyn holding a weapon against them (unless she’s going through her evil arc lmao #2 wouldn’t they all be shocked or happy even? But that also leads into the thing I was saying before that this might not be their first reaction
and what I meant by not first reaction is not that this isnt the first time they saw this person (it could be tho) but that this is a few secs in or something into the scene when they encounter this person. Like it could be long enough that most of their initial shock or happiness is gone and now their like why is Brooklyn trying to attack us and if it was this then the reactions would prob make sense like Sammy’s betrayed face and kenji being angry
GODDAMN I JUST REALIZED HOW LONG THIS IS OMG
sorry, continuing on to another theory
it could also be the uncanny raptor girl maybe?? (She’s called the handler right?) but then again I don’t think so because first of all she doesn’t attack them directly and wouldn’t come so close and usually attacks with her raptors so it wouldn’t make sense if she was the one holding the weapon
This brings us to my final theory-ish (more of an idea) of today which is that it’s someone that they know (even if it’s not Brooklyn) because of the way their reacting because honestly if it’s only one person then they have strength in numbers like?they shouldn’t be so scared or angry if it’s only one person who’s a bitch and trying to kill em. Maybe it’s someone kenji or Sammy know based on them having the strongest reactions out of the group (someone from mantah corp?) or maybe it could be someone from jwcc, maybe it’s even someone who we thought was dead and isn’t actually dead
so to sum it all up, for the second pic I think the person holding the weapon is someone they already knew due to all their reactions
KUDOS TO ANYONE WHO READ ALL THIS 😭
#me writing all this analysis right after saying “I can’t really analyze that much out of the new pics they gave us” 😭 man I am such a liar#I haven’t wrote this much for an analysis in a while#OMG CANT WAIT FOR JWCT S2 IN FALL#jwct#sammy gutierrez#yasmina fadoula#brooklyn jwcc#will always find Brooklyn Not have a last name funny#Brooklyn jwct#kenji kon#ben pincus#darius bowman#jurassic world chaos theory#jurrasic world camp cretaceous#jwcc#jwct spoilers#jurassic world chaos theory spoilers#jwct analysis#jwct season 2

Idk the way people perceive the Agency's morality really bothers me lmao. Like yall there's a reason they're the 'evening' and not the 'day' (given the metaphor w the Mafia as the night under the tripartite pact)

hi hi!! since you like kunikida, i feel like you’re the right person to ask :D
how do you think kunikida would act/show care for people around him? the ada for example.
i’m writing a fic about how kunikida silently shows his care for the agency, but i tend to struggle with characterisation so i need your thoughts. because he obviously cares for the ada members a lot, but i don’t know how to portray it in a way that’s not too “soft” or “goody-two shoes” while still making it clear that he does love these people.
sorry if this is out of the blue lol :’) ty for your time!!
ACKKK THANK YOU FOR ASKING!!
I love analyzing characters 😼
this is going to be a long one. I do not apologize because I love kunikida
also tumblr ate this ask so I found this in my notifs and not my ask box
(also I want the fic please please please I want to read it please)
Some things are canon (first few) others aren't.
We already have seen a few ways he shows care for members!!
Dazai;
-Calling daily. It's in his schedule to call Dazai. And to make sure he's coming into work.
-Telling Dazai he can always vent if he needs to.
-"You were so talented. I couldn't have asked for a better partner."
-Buys Dazai food. Also Kunikida makes food for Dazai. (not canon but hey. he would and you know it)
-They banter a lot, but we still know Kunikida cares.
-Kunikida listens to Dazai (Dazai rambles a lot)
-Also hugs. A lot of hugs. Like he just gives him hugs. Kunikida will hold Dazai and rock him, idc what anyone says.
Atsushi; (I've realized this is all canon info and not personal headcanons)
-Praise. He does respect Atsushi, especially after he saved Kyoka. (After saving Kyoka, he praised him by saying 'good job')
-Yes he gives Atsushi lectures and reminders.
-Kunikida is proud of everything Atsushi has done. He compliments Atsushi's work (Kunikida compliments everyone for their work btw)
-Kunikida trains Atsushi!!
-Also let's not forget the hug they shared during the reunion.
Ranpo; (this is also all canon..)
-Kunikida praises Ranpo often. Like really often.
-"We'll be counting on you, Ranpo-san."
-"The ideal detective— no, in fact, the ideal ability user."
-Even after learning about Ranpo not being gifted, he still acts like Ranpo is.
-They do have a close bond. Ranpo has told Kunikida that he's the strongest. Ranpo also supports Kunikida, and tells him to stay calm and act like Fukuzawa during the cannibalism arc. (This is more about Ranpo, but still it shows they're close enough to say this stuff to each other)
Yosano;
-Respect! He does respect Yosano just like the other members.
-He surrendered his own life for Yosano's. This was because of the Hunting Dogs. (this goes along with respect)
-He knows Yosano's schedule. Take that as you will.
-Kunikida fully believes that Yosano can always help him no matter the injury. He doesn't care if he's injured because he knows Yosano can help him.
-Because of that one, I'd believe that he'd do a lot for Yosano as thanks. Gift giving, hugs, whatever Yosano is comfortable with.
Kyoka;
-Kunikida is very kind towards Kyoka. He opens up to her after her entrance exam. Which we can see the differences in the anime and manga.
-Kunikida gives lots of advice to Kyoka. He does the same for Atsushi. I'd say this is because he's technically a "higher up" because he joined before the two of them.
-He has also given Kyoka a page of his notebook in case of emergency while Kyoka was trying to save Atsushi. (canon)
-Definitely helps her with tasks. If she's struggling, no she isn't, Kunikida is right there.
-Headpats!! And he gives her stuffed animals as gifts.
-Did I mention that he definitely carries a stuffed animal on him at all times just so he can give it to Kyoka? Because he 100% does (prove me wrong challenge) (level impossible)
Kenji;
-Kunikida actually knows a lot about Kenji. Specifically his ability and the way he acts with others.
-Unfortunately there aren't many interactions of the two.
-However, I think Kunikida would do everything Kenji wants. Not just because he's a higher up/ superior, but also because he has a weakness to Kenji. nobody wants Kenji angry.
-Both can easily give bone crushing hugs, so I think it's easier for them to hug each other than to hug other people.
-Yes Kunikida buys Kenji food. Yes he gives Kenji blankets for when he falls asleep. Asagiri told me himself trust me
-Kenji and Kyoka play with stuffed animals and dolls/ toy animals. Kunikida now keeps some random toys and animals with him just to calm them down.
-Kunikida also buys Kenji stuffed animals because he realized Kyoka liked them and Kenji seemed to want them as well.
Junichiro;
-Canonically, they do trust each other!
-I think Kunikida treats him to food a lot. Just as a little treat.
-Also praise. If we know he canonically can give praise then he should praise Junichiro for his hard work.
-Junichiro likes physical touch (my opinion) so I think Kunikida gives him hugs and pats on the back.
-Like you know that thing people do where they pat someone's back and then rub it? That's literally Kunikida to anyone I think. Just mainly Atsushi and Junichiro.
Naomi;
-I don't think they've like canonically interacted?
-Also treats Naomi to food. Just mainly sweets because she loves sweets.
-Hugs. The Tanizaki siblings love physical touch. That's their number one love language.
-Pats on the head for good work.
Haruno;
-They don't hang out much. But he will visit her.
-Daily check ups. He just visits her or goes to her during work and asks if everythings okay. (I think he does this to everyone, just a headcanon)
-Also headpats. At this point he has probably patted every single person's head at some point. Except for Fukuzawa (out of respect for him)
Fukuzawa;
-He has a lot of respect for him. We know this.
-Asking how his day was, making sure he's okay.
-Buying/ making him tea.
-Taking him out for food or drinks, whatever Fukuzawa is preferring in the moment.
-Hugged him once. Was horrified about it. Was also embarrassed because he didn't even mean to like it just happened.
-Fukuzawa didn't mind and hugged him back. This only made Kunikida more embarrassed. Also I think Kunikida's face and ears go read when he's embarrassed.
Katai; (if you're including him)
-They've known each other for ten years. They know each other well.
-Kunikida visits him often. Normally he reminds him to do chores, or does the chores himself.
-Kunikida encourages Katai to go outside. He'll also tell Katai to try going out without his futon.
-They're very close! Kunikida knows basically everything about Katai, and knows how to help him out.
-Kunikida praises Katai. (all above canon and this too)
-Kunikida makes food for Katai. I think he does it because Katai doesn't eat healthy food often.
-Kunikida and Katai cuddle. Trust me guys (whatt I'm definitely not a kunikatai shipper hahaa that'd be so weird..)
-Kunikida tries to go out with Katai but because Katai is a hikikomori it's pretty hard to do.
-Kunikida listens to all of Katai's ramblings on literally anything. Katai will listen about Kunikida's ideals too.
-Kunikida gives Katai words of affection a lot. Katai is insecure and Kunikida knows. That is why.
----------------
Unintentionally he will headpat people at the agency. Like "Good work." and then suddenly his hand his on their head and he pats it. Not even for a specific reason, he's just did it so frequently to the younger members and now it happens to everyone.
He takes everyone out for food/ drinks seperately, just so they can have a little bonding moment.
----------------
This definitely didn't take like two or three days tee hee
Lots of tags because this took a lot of time

Ate pls update soon!! dont be too pressured tho. Your home base story is so good 😗😗
I'm going to try to bang out some more of ch8 tonight! if i get into the groove itll be out within the weekend :> btw if ure in the PH i hope youre safe atm! the typhoon rlly rocked us this past week
SO while waiting for that to happen, I'll chat BRIEFLY about my thoughts on Ken Sato's insecurities to help me get out of the writer's block for a bit lmao
I fully subscribe to the characterization that Ken can actually be a bit awkward socially when he isn't putting up a pretense and is actually insecure
but what exactly is his source of insecurity?
For me, I don't fully believe all of his confidence is for show lmao. he knows he's a damn good baseball player, he knows he is hot as fuck— he knows he is the shit. I don't think the bullying affected his self-esteem in a way where he doubts himself bc I don't think he'll let white boys tell him what kind of person he is
instead, I think the bullying solidified his difficulty in being vulnerable with others and produced in his brain the false narrative that he is alone
The reason why he built this high self-image of himself is that he believes that he is the only person in his corner, aside from his mom. in connection to his dad, it is to show his dad that he never needed him to be a part of his life even if deep down, he does
Ken puts up the idea that he is the greatest of all time because he wants to show that he can do it without relying on others
it's very western, to hold onto an individualistic viewpoint on success, and to find it admirable that he was able to do it all with pure willpower
but it also makes him very lonely
what's more, i dont think we can divorce ken's insecurities about his inability to connect with others from his struggles with retaining his japanese identity and feeling like a foreigner in his own country
There's a lot more to discuss (I mainly use Erikson's psychosocial theory as a template) esp in terms on how the reader in 'home base' feeds into his insecurities and worsens his abandonment issues, but that's just a bit for now!! will try to update soon

PM and ADA deal Theory
Hey guys, friendly reminder that Mori is likely still gonna ask for someone from the ADA to join the PM. It honestly hurts my soul to think that the ADA will lose someone this soon after all the shit in this arc went down but Mori isn’t one to care about that kind of stuff.
SEASON FIVE SPOILERS
This is about 1.7k words so be warned
I know a lot of people are sold on the theory that it’ll probably be Tanizaki since Asagiri is big on foreshadowing and Tanizaki does have a homicidal side but I don’t think he’d let himself be put in a position to where his sister might be in danger or get a target on her back. He’d probably run away or kill the people in question before that happened. Not to mention since his run in with Akutagawa and the black lizard that he sort of hates most if not all of the mafia members. He was so ready to go to war with the PM to defend the agency and someone like this would be super hard to control, deal with the ADA or not.
Mori isn’t stupid, in fact he’s very calculating and very cunning and who are his biggest obsessions? He’s always so focused on Dazai and Yosano but both of these are off limits in his eyes. Yosano is off limits because of the terms of the deal with Fukuzawa and Dazai is off because Mori wants him to come back on his own. Now we have Kyouka, Atsushi, Kenji, Ranpo and Kunikida left to choose from.
Kunikida is off the table I think because he’s a child bombing away from just completely breaking. There is a part of me that believes Mori could pick Kunikida solely to break him and watch Fukuzawa and Dazai suffer but Mori is also the type of boss that doesn’t want to waste powerful allies if he doesn’t need to. I mean, he’s literally letting Tachihara choose his loyalties, he’ll probably still get punished severely but Mori isn’t one to just waste men unless it’s for good reason or worth the risks. Also Kunikida is Fukuzawa’s successor and something tells me that Mori doesn’t wanna deal with the strict moral types.
Ranpo is definitely off the table. Fukuzawa would go batshit if Mori picked him. He just lost his childhood best friend. Do you think he’s gonna let Mori take his son next? No he will not. Also Ranpo would blatantly refuse to work with him. He’s smart enough to survive but Ranpo is disinterested in most things and Fukuzawa is really the only one who can make him do something. I don’t think Mori would want to deal with that either.
Now we have Atsushi, Kenji and Kyouka. Mori usually chooses children to take under his wing because they’re easy to manipulate and easy to mold into his ideal subordinates. However Kyouka was already in the mafia once and Kouyou even used up her slight favor with Mori to let her leave the mafia with no consequences. I don’t think he’d want to deal with the hassle of internal conflict since Kouyou would be pissed if he took Kyouka away from the light that she enjoys so much. However much Kouyou wants to deny that she can’t help Kyouka anymore, she’s only human and she’s very much attached to the Kyouka who shares a similar past and ability.
Kenji’s situation is kind of hard to determine. As stated, Mori does prefer to mold and manipulate children rather than adults but Kenji is kind of an oddity among humans. Not because of his ability but because of his personality. He’s very much a “you fuck around and find out” type of guy is willing to believe the best in people despite what they may do or have done. I don’t see many reasons why Mori wouldn’t choose him other than there are better options than Kenji. Sure Kenji is super powerful with a very useful gift but there are other members that would fit his goals better.
Now Atsushi, he’s the biggest contender for the mafia recruit in my mind for a few reasons. Now we saw in the series that there were gonna be three main villains (The Guild, the Decay of Angels and the Order of the Clock Tower) and now we have finished out with two of them. This means that we’re possibly getting into the last major arc or two of the main plot of the story and there are still so many unanswered questions about Atsushi.
Atsushi was deemed the envy of all ability users by Fyodor which was why Shibusawa originally held an interest in him. My question is why Fyodor was interested enough in Atsushi to know of him and what is their connection that Fyodor was even able to know of him. Fyodor is a genius but the orphanage headmaster said that he was a randomly dumped toddler and he lived most of his life in a cage in the orphanage. This in itself is fishy but I’ll get to that in a second. Moreover, Atsushi’s ability seems like it just resists almost all other abilities with the ability to cut through space itself and high regeneration abilities that causes most wounds to go away instantly when he’s in his full tiger form, most other abilities don’t affect him when he’s fully a tiger.
Who is called the most powerful ability user? Natsume is, and he is able to turn into a cat. Seeing the pattern here? When did the headmaster die? When he was trying to find Atsushi and talk to him again. It’s very suspicious timing and I wholeheartedly believe that he was silenced by someone who didn’t want Atsushi knowing something important about himself. And then we have the seven billion bounty that was put on his head because of his ability. I don’t think that it’s a coincidence that Fitzgerald, who wanted to find The Book, wanted the tiger so badly that he was willing to spend that much.
Asagiri is a beast at foreshadowing and he doesn’t do anything for kicks, all of his moves are deliberate. There is something about Atsushi that we’re missing and I’m willing to bet that Mori, who was going to accept the bounty, wants to know what it is as much as we do. Atsushi’s strange ability, the holes in his past from before the orphanage, Fyodor and Shibusawa’s interest in him, his correlation to Natsume, his probable connections to locating the book and the fact that Dazai was coincidentally there to save him when he came to Yokohama? Yeah, there’s definitely something up with Atsushi and the poor kid doesn’t even realize it.
So yes, I do think that Mori either a) wants to figure out Atsushi’s situation in relation to everything or b) he knows something and wants to exploit it out of him. My second point is that Mori wants to break Dazai down and build him up as the perfect PM boss. Mori is someone who manipulates and breaks from the sidelines then watches conflict and in the aftermath, glues the pieces of what once was back together in a collage of his own liking. He knows he can’t beat Dazai but he can make him suffer. Who is Dazai the closest to at the agency? Atsushi.
Dazai always says, “Atsushi and the others” while making sure Atsushi makes it out alive in any situation that he is in. Dazai has a big soft spot for Atsushi, the kid he took in as a mentor and the kid who wholeheartedly believes without any hesitation that he is a good person. He brought his own chair and made a home in Dazai’s heart without his permission. Atsushi knows he was in the PM, knows he’s the reason for a lot of Akutagwa’s issues, knows about some of the atrocities he’s committed but still smiles genuinely at him. Of course he doesn’t know everything but Atsushi is probably Dazai’s biggest apologist (It’s not Akutagawa but that's for a different post). Atsushi is the personification of Oda’s last wish to Dazai and Mori definitely knows that he can hurt Dazai by hurting his beloved mentee.
Mori is also very aware of the new generation of soukoku. If he’s able to wrangle and manage Akutagawa (he’s alive shut up) a little more because Atsushi is his partner then all the more reason to choose him. Atsushi covers all the bases, a mysterious power that could make his organization that much more untouchable, mess with Dazai, mess with the agency and manage his own employees better. It doesn’t help that Atsushi’s mental state isn’t the best. He’s not a kid but he’s traumatized and doesn’t have the same development other 18 year olds do, and that can be just as easily to manipulate as a child. It would be difficult because Atsushi genuinely believes in Dazai with everything he is but every person is able to break and Mori is especially good at that.
I know that Fukuzawa’s ability is the reason we don’t see any more late night weretiger situations but Atsushi has so much more control now than when he did at the beginning of the series. It’s also very much possible that Mori is looking for a degree of uncontrollable tiger to help him with his goals. It’s also been confirmed that pain can manage his transformations as seen with his collar in BSD BEAST.
It also doesn’t help that Asagiri tends to go through the trauma route to have his characters develop and experiencing the “darkside” of Yokohama just may be what he thinks Atsushi needs to develop more.
So yeah, I think Mori may choose Atsushi as the new PM member but don’t quote me on this if I’m wrong, it’ll be embarrassing. They also may just throw this plotline out the window since both sides suffered this past arc, they may find it illogical to go through with the deal when the truce between the PM and ADA is still sensitive but I doubt it. Mori isn’t one to care for those things.

BSD NEW COVER 25 ANALYSIS
Bsd chapter 114.5.+ chapters from volume 23 spoilers
the first thing I noticed were these red flowers. These are the "striking red Camellias", in japanese "Tsubaki".
This is the symbol of the flowers:
ABOUT FUKUZAWA AND FUKUCHI
This really is interesting because Fukuzawa and Fukuchi are on the cover with these flowers. Fukuzawa is a samurai, and Fukuchi is a warriour, and Fukuchi died. It also represents love. They both cared for eachother.
Fukuzawa's sword is in the flower. Reminder that this flower also represents love. I think it's in there, because the one he cared about and loved is dead.
ABOUT FYODOR
I noticed that in his hand there is this flower too, but its rotting. His whole body is with this black shadow "smoke?".
And the red flower symbolizes death. And because Fyodor is kinda immortal, the flower who symbolizes death is rotting. And there is this black "smoke?" around his body, I think its also the flower who's rotting. I find this cover really interesting, how they put these details in.
About Dazai
The Camellia is on Dazai's heart. It doesn’t have to mean that he's going to die, so don't worry Dazai fans. I know that in the cover he looks like from the season 1 opening where he is falling from the building but I wouldn't worry too much. Or should I..?
The flower is on Dazai's heart maybe because, this cover wants to show that he cares about the ADA, who are in trouble. And that he would die to save the world or to save the ADA. (Or maybe he will die, but if that happens, it wont be soon.) And that flower represents death and love.
About Atsushi
So I noticed that the flowers are on the water, close to Atsushi. I looked threw every cover from bsd and these flowers only appeared in this cover and on the 23rd cover. (Well im not sure if these are the same ones.)
It shows his love for the ADA. And it also maybe shows that his life is in trouble. But I don't think he'll die.
In volume 23, we could see that Atsushi was struggling because he didn't know what to do, how to help the ADA. It shows his love for them.
This is not related to Atsushi, but this can be helpful for the next analyse when these flowers appear again.
Kenji was in this cover too and in this volume. He was fighting against Techhou and almost died. And we've seen how he truly cares about the ADA too.
So when the flowers appear in covers, it means love and death. It doesn't have to mean that the characters will die though.
And I don't know if I'm tripping but is this Ranpo in the water?

Note: this is all my personal opinion and I might be reaching with this but HEAR ME OUT PLEASE
Ami’s first question for Kenji is one of the scenes that stuck out the most for me since it’s the first hint we see of the real Kenji behind his facade.
He’s genuinely shocked and drops the facade for a second, trying to think of the best way to respond to Ami.
This might be a stretch, but I think Ken was gauging Ami by asking this. He’s gone on the defensive, and he stutters - he’s watching her reaction to try to determine whether she’s trying to elicit something from him, or if she’s genuinely just asking.
When she responds, I think he sees that she’s sincere, hence why he loosens up a bit. He does, however, deflect her question, drawing attention away from him and instead brings it back to Ami.
I’m no psychology expert, and for all I know, these sources could be entirely unreliable, but here’s some information I thought was relevant to Kenji’s deflection:
https://uktherapyguide.com/deflection-in-psychology-what-it-is-why-people-use-it-and-how-to-deal-with-it
“...We can also deflect when we’re not yet ready to face certain emotions and memories that others bring up. This isn’t because we want to harm them, but because we want to protect ourselves.” (UK Therapy Guide, N.A)
https://manhattanmentalhealthcounseling.com/understanding-deflection-in-psychology-and-effective-ways-to-respond/
“Deflection typically arises from denial of true feelings or blame-shifting. People use deflection to dodge vulnerability, fearing judgement or criticism, or to maintain control in challenging situations.” (Manhattan Mental Health Counselling, 2023)
Idk man i could be overthinking this but I’d like to think that this scene gives us an insight into Kenji’s defence mechanisms.
I apologise for the phrasing - there was so much more I wanted to convey but I really struggled to write this😭

kenji being smaller than makoto is my new favourite thing,,, (ft ryoji bc this whole thing started when i was looking at the work internship scene again)

in theory, kenji in the pm would be interesting but i never to want to see that happen in practice ever.
but if you think of it, he definetally isn't fit for the mafia. he's too kindhearted, his blood is red not mafia black. similar to higuchi and chuuya isn't fit, he most definetally isn't fit for it.
but in terms of assets, he could be a big weapon and asset for the mafia that mori would love to have in his ranks if possible, along with the fact that kenji is easy to manipulate. his strong ability is impeccable and can even rival chuuya's corruption in terms of destruction and physical strength, mori isn't against picking children for his recruits all on their abilties and smartness.
would I think it'll ever happen in canon? not likely, but it's very interesting to think about (and there is a possablity in it as well)
a lot of people are thinking about dazai and tanizaki in terms of who will be traded in exchange for the PM and ADA deal but no one talks about the potentional of kenji being exchanged.

SHOOT ME DEAD RIGHT NOW
(Jurassic World Chaos Theory spoilers)
The signs of Brooklynn choosing mystery/her work over Kenji were there AT SEASON FIVE EPISODE TWO
For their date, she was fine being late to the date over uncovering the mystery of what Daniel Kon is really up to.
Darius: “Are you sure you wanna go? It’s getting dark, almost 8:30…”
Brooklynn: “oh we’re so close to figuring it out! Kenji will understand if I’m late.”
And in Chaos Theory, it grew to be enough of a problem that Kenji finally decided to put his foot down on the matter. Kenji, who let his father control and manipulate him. With his baggage, I’m sure he would’ve put up with a lot of the hurt until he couldn’t anymore.
Kenji’s a romantic, but Brooklynn will always put the stories before anyone else, and I hope we get to explore more of this in season two

who do you think will join the port mafia?
thank you for the question, anon!
i’m not entirely sure which ada member will be transferred to the port mafia, but i do believe this is best determined through the process of elimination.
the preface this, i am ruling out the clerks, as i don’t believe they would be beneficial to the port mafia. it would be quite unproductive of mori to choose one of them. (unless he chooses naomi to force tanizaki’s hand? though i don’t particularly believe in that theory.)
okay, let’s begin.
core agents:
while mori does want a member, this is not to the agency’s detriment. therefore, the pillar members are very unlikely to be chosen—these members being fukuzawa, ranpo, yosano, and kunikida. we can effectively rule them out as follows: fukuzawa’s ability maintains stability within the ada, ranpo’s deduction isn’t suited for a mafioso, yosano has been deemed off-limits, and kunikida is fukuzawa’s successor.
kyouka:
another agent who i believe is unlikely to be chosen is kyouka, as kouyou and mori have both shown to be impressed by her resolve to better herself, and i can’t imagine them forcing her back into the mafia after all of that growth. kouyou especially—she has given up on trying to take kyouka back, and is actively trying to keep her from the port mafia now.
as for members who are possible contenders, we are left with dazai, tanizaki, atsushi, and kenji.
atsushi:
i don’t really believe they will choose atsushi. to my knowledge, he still requires all men are equal to have full control over his ability, and if he were to leave the agency, fukuzawa’s ability would no longer have an effect on him. he has been training, but i don’t think he’s had enough time to master byakko yet.
however, i could see why he would be chosen from a narrative standpoint. it would provide the audience a new perspective, and allow further development for many characters. we cannot entirely rule him out, especially since the port mafia has been gunning for him since day one (though that was due to a contract from the guild. still, i suppose it stands.)
dazai:
i’d hope mori wouldn’t pick dazai, though, i have seen some compelling arguments as to why he may be chosen. in forcing dazai out of the port mafia, mori has shown to hold some regret, despite having chosen the “optimal solution”.
there is also the case of potential foreshadowing in the osamu dazai and the dark era light novel, with mori saying to odasaku, “…dazai’s capabilities are astounding. i’m sure in four or five years, he’ll have killed me and taken my place.” this takes place when dazai was eighteen, which would place him at around twenty-two or twenty-three.
all things considered, i don’t think it’ll be him. dazai has made too many strides toward fulfilling his promise to odasaku for mori to take him back now, and in disrupting that, i believe there would only be a severe backlash. i think mori will keep dazai’s executive position open and available to him, not force him back into it.
this leaves us with two possible agents: jun'ichirou and kenji. i have seen extensive reasoning as to why either of them may be chosen, and to be honest, i’m quite conflicted myself.
kenji:
kenji’s ability would be very useful to the port mafia, but his naïveté might be a disadvantage. he also may fall under the same category as atsushi in not being able to maintain full control over his ability without fukuzawa, but he has been shown to have precautions in place, so i cannot confirm that he needs the safety net. he is certainly a valuable asset to both organizations, and i don’t believe he would be opposed so long as he is protecting the agency.
tanizaki:
tanizaki has been the fan favorite for “most likely to be transferred over”, and i can’t say i disagree. initially, he was my pick as well. it has been foreshadowed multiple times, with hirotsu claiming his ability is suited for assassination, to tanizaki attempting to kill mori, and even jun'ichirou outright volunteering himself in yosano’s place. he has been shown to not be opposed to killing so long as he is protecting naomi and his friends. this idea is expanded on in the third light novel, untold origins of the detective agency.
“…tanizaki felt he was mediocre at his job, held mediocre principles, and had a mediocre sense of justice…”
i believe that he very well may be chosen, as this would provide him the development which his character has been severely lacking.
however, i wouldn’t put it past asagiri to disregard those statements entirely and find a way to surprise us—it’s just what he does lol.

Nakahara Chūya, and Miyazawa Kenji... Quite the unique bunch, aren't they?
The allegedly 'inhumane', gravity manipulating beast, and the temperamental, often starved sunshine child.
They're explored separately throughout the Manga, and are given their moments to express their characters through words and actions. At first sight, they'd be rendered polar opposites. However that may be true to an unknowing outsider, their current knowledge would never allow them to understand, to comprehend what lies within.
One loyal dog, another morally grey sweetheart.
They do meet once during the main plot; multiple times during the spin offs and once during the anthologies. They're portrayed to be an admiring boy with his idol. It's truly an adorable sight to behold.
The feared Mafia executive, and the loved, yet feared agency part timer.
It's a pity that they'll most probably never get the right opportunity to connect with one another. Their past experiences and sorrows are the key factors that would assist them to truly understand each other's emotions, as they both know what it's like to grieve over loved ones. They both know all too well what it's like to be the strongest; to be the pillar of support that everyone depends on in certain situations; their trump card. They both harbor abilities that are mighty, double edged swords, unstoppable when provoked, even harmful to oneself when pushed to their wits end. The weight of responsibility could weigh on them akin to dead weight, but they persevere through it, and they manage to make it through victorious. It's truly fascinating however, that the difference in environment could impact the path taken, and ideals followed by each. The way by which they choose to handle predicaments they're to be put in reflects the duality of humans that are infinitely similar and different concurrently.
Bottling up their issues and emotions isn't foreign to either. One due to his upbringing, and the other solely because of the fact that he has no time to deal with them. Life is moving, and the mafioso cannot afford to be held up by pitiful emotions. He is capable of destressing using quality wine in the safe confines of a bar table. The young blonde on the other hand is a stranger to pitiful anger, sadness and irritation. He has been brought up to never feel the need to be anything but happy. Yes, it might have effectively impacted him, making his perspective and views brighter, much more optimistic and inviting than most. However, a certain perspective would claim that variety in emotions is what makes us human; I'd leave it up to debate, yet I personally believe that with enough care and attention, the young Miyazawa could open up, even if a little to peak of anything that bothers him. That'd be the peak of character development. Another colossal issue that is faced by this superhuman fourteen year old happens to be how he chooses to handle his hunger. He could be half starved to death, yet not a single complaint would leave his lips. He's far too accustomed to it. He doesn't acknowledge it anymore, and that is not healthy.
A lost soul, and another wandering one.
I dare say Nakahara sees a fragment of his youth in the blonde countryboy. Nakahara would go to unimaginable lengths just to keep the boy's smile genuine; to keep it cheerful and glad to be in existence as ever. He'd try to reserve the boy's happiness, because he was too familiar with it being stripped away.
They might just be the shoulder that both of them needs to lean on, cry on in case the infamous ginger winds up lost to the alcohol.
If only the mangaka gave it a serious chance.
(TD;LR I firmly believe in and support the Chuenji sibling dynamic.
Petition to allow the Miyazawa family to adopt Chūya, aye in the comments if you agree.
Hope you liked this pointless piece of meta that literally no one asked for. I'm pretty sure most of my points have been repeated over and over by other people, but never hurts really.)

BSD Anime vs. Manga
S4 Episode 7 & Chapters 59-61
This is mostly going to be a compilation of the ADA moments, focused on Kunikida in particular, since Bones seems to freely pluck out parts from his characterization that takes away a lot from his personal arc. They have done it before, but in this arc, where each detail sensitive to his entire arc, I find it is quite a shame they were excluded.
Here are some moments that didn't make it to the anime, or simply didn't translate well into the episode because of a number of reasons.
A short disclaimer: I've never written any kind of analysis posts or even theories so I'd say this is more of my personal thoughts rather than a very objective comparison, since I hold Kunikida and the ADA very close to my heart. Buckle up for a really long post because oh boy, I have a lot of thoughts.
1. First signs of despair
(BSD Chapter 59)
Quite contrary to how Kunikida is perceived as emotionless, among all the characters in the room, we get a close up into his mind and thoughts first. They have been just declared as national criminals, and Ranpo, the most vital pillar of their agency was just shot and presumably out of commission. The all-knowing Ranpo who has gotten them out of trouble numerous times has been cut off. They sit there in shock as the realisation sinks in. They have no way out. Kunikida looks at his notebook, pondering out loud, "Is this where...my ideals come to an end?"
2. Kunikida retaliates back
(BSD Chapter 59)
This is one of the sides of Kunikida we may rarely get to see. While he is a character with a strong moral compass compared to the other BSD characters, there are moments when he prioritizes to protect himself and would go to any lengths to to prevent harm to his comrades, sometimes at the cost of his own well being. He wouldn't kill anyone, but should the circumstances call for it, he wouldn't hesitate to remove that obstacle. This is similar to how he shoots a little kid who was firing at him and Atsushi in the cannibalism arc. However the circumstances are entirely different in both scenarios. At that time, his inner conflict was more evident, since the children had been lied to, and instructed to shoot and didn't know any better. He had to protect himself and Atsushi. Over here, he is more or less wrongly being accused, which would explain his actions.
Before this, there's also a gentle look that passes over his eyes, as he reminisces about working along with them, and the fact that they see him as an enemy now.
I do however, appreciate that in the anime, his voice is softer, and not rude or mean to the soldiers they just defeated.
3. Remorse
(BSD Chapter 60)
Just as they are able to escape and catch their breaths, Kunikida is immediately filled with remorse for his actions. There is the special emphasis on the "light in the eyes" that Kunikida refers to, something which is very important to a character in Harukawa sensei's art style. He struck down a person, who was someone just like him, someone who was simply holding up his own ideals for the "good" of the nation, something Kunikida himself resonates with. He questions the justness of his own actions, and is in an inner dilemma about everything he stands for. Despite his "tough" exterior, Kunikida is inherently a person who is deeply vulnerable. He puts up his walls, but these walls even seem to break too easily, caused by his own self doubt.
This internal conflict is completely missing in the anime, and while it may seem inconsequential to the overall plot, it takes away a lot of impact that comes ahead. There is a lack of a dramatic pause that this scene gives, as the horror sinks in not just for us, but our characters as well.
4. Ray of hope
(BSD Chapter 60)
Before everyone, especially Kunikida sinks into complete despair, Kenji speaks up, starting on a completely unrelated and seemingly pointless note. He offers everyone some rice balls, surprising everyone.
(BSD Chapter 60)
Kenji is just such a precious boy. Kenji's logic is eating = happiness so by offering the rice balls, he's literally saying "please don't feel dejected!! I want you all to stay healthy and be happy!!"
Kunikida tries to reason, initially feeling that Kenji was making light of the situation. But Kenji is clearly having none of it and stops him immediately. We unfortunately missed this absolutely hilarious scene of Kenji shutting up Kunikida by shoving a rice ball into his mouth LMAO.
In hindsight, as I rewatch the anime, Kenji's speech is a nice optimistic boost in very Kenji fashion, but it comes across as a touch too happy go lucky in the anime and you can't deny how much more impactful it is when instead of just a random speech, he's purposefully uplifting everyone's spirits.
He isn't just being optimistic and is aware of the grim situation. He understands that he would need to use his ability for the obstacles they may face ahead and forgoes eating the rice balls (as Kenji cannot use his skill if his stomach is full). That's when even Kunikida realises that he is being serious. He understands how everyone feels, and reassures them, essentially saying that the agency will get through, rebuild, and continue on their path no matter how many difficulties come their way.
I have to say, this moment here is even more touching with his backstory that was recently revealed a few chapters ago. Kenji actually comes across as very mature for his age with his outlook on life and his kind and humble nature.
There is an immediate change in Kunikida's demeanor after this. He acknowledges Kenji's words and bites into the rice ball, accepting his 'unique' way of encouraging them with gratitude. And hereforth emerges the leader within Kunikida. I'm working on another post related to Kunikida and his role as the future ADA leader, but Kunikida is truly a people's leader. He spurs into action when he has the trust and support of his comrades and is the most confident when backed and reassured by the ones near him.
Unfortunately I find that this moment completely fell flat in the anime. They included Tanizaki's line about being criminals and it's in response to that that Kenji gives his speech which isn't bad per se....but doesn't give the same impact as the manga. They added some sparkles ✨ as he was speaking which made it a tad bit animated whereas in the manga it seems like the sun is shining on him...which makes me wonder how the anime would've looked if they actually showed a progression of time instead of just sticking to twilight hues...
5. Just your friendly neighborhood terrorist gang...
(BSD manga chapter 61)
And here is the most iconic and probably the greatest scene of all times, which was only partly animated. I'll let this one slide, but imagine how much funnier it would have been if they did include the first part. The fact that they are being pursued right now as the most wanted criminals, and how every second is extremely precious to them if they want to escape safely, and yet, Kunikida would steal someone's vehicle only after confirming they have an insurance for it (and letting them go if they don't).
Even him choosing to take a private vehicle rather than public transport to avoid jeopardizing other's lives...Kunikida is just so good. I love him so much you don't understand 🥹💕
6. Comprehensive personality analysis by Jouno Saigiku (Kunikida edition)
Okay sorry this is just me being salty but like....did they seriously give us an extended fish eye cut for this entire scene??!! I was so shocked I couldn't even focus on the weight and symbolism of the dialogue. I get the fish eye potential of this scene but like why....just why.
It's such a pivotal revelation about Kunikida, not just to us, the audience, but even to Kunikida himself, his deepest and innermost thoughts and fears laid out in the open like that. Jouno tears him down effectively, making him question himself and his ideals.
This part makes me crazy emotional in the manga, because the whole thing about Kunikida's ideals is that it actually weighs so heavily on him that he doesn't really realise that he is crumbling under the pressure of it. Deep inside, he is aware about the futility of pursuing them, as seen from how he admits it himself in Chapter 40 to Katsura, but instead of letting go, he keeps pushing himself. His ideals are not for others to follow, but something he demands of himself, in order to create a better world. And if the people whom he wants to protect are taken away, his ideals would come to an end, hence he'll be "free" from the heavy burden of his ideals.
Reducing all of this into a mere fish eye moment....bones I will remember this 😭😤
However, I do appreciate that they added a scene of Kunikida shielding Yosano from Tecchou, a nice parallel to when Yosano takes a bullet for Kunikida. It was just very heart warming to see all of them protect each other. There's also a small panel that was not animated, one where Jouno kicks Kenji out of the moving car and asks Kunikida and the others to go ahead, and there's a look of uncertainty and despair that passes on Kunikida's face, another instance of his internal conflict not included.
(also what is with all of Kunikida's enemies reading up on him and studying him?? Like I'm no different from these guys tbh I get it, I'm obsessed with him too but back off will ya...🙄)
I'm only considering this fan-made video by cocoa as the true anime scene because wth were they thinking 😭
Additional thoughts Episode 8
Kunikida's final answer
I would recommend going and reading the full manga for better reading experience, but in case you're feeling too lazy, I included the screenshots. I'm mostly satisfied with how this part was animated, but here are some of my thoughts about it anyways. Looking back to this chapter in the manga, it's definitely much more dramatic than its counterpart.
There's a panel where they just show him with his back hunched all alone as he ponders over what Jouno said which is really neat. The look of horror that passes over his face as he sees Kenji being stabbed is much more dramatic. In the anime, Kenji being stabbed was even more horrifying, and obviously more realistic of a reaction than him just going "huh?" as if it was nothing much.
There's even a panel of Kunikida gritting his teeth, until he realises what he needs to do. I loved the way he swung off the helicopter in the anime, it kinda lives rent free in my brain ngl. When Kunikida jumps off and kicks Tecchou, there's a close up of his face, full of determination and light in his eyes... it's just so beautiful because he's no longer hindered by self doubt. This light in his eyes remains the brightest in all the three panels.
While originally I was under the impression that this would be a very sad scene, the anime and the choice of music made it seem more of a heroic moment instead, which the more I think about, the more I feel was a good choice. After a series of unfortunate events and near death situations, Kunikida is faced with the choice to either give up or save everyone. His choice to sacrifice himself was one stemming from his role as a leader and also, most importantly to protect anyone else from getting hurt. This is also his firm answer back to Jouno's words, that he would continue striving for his ideals, even when sacrificing his own life.
And also, spoilers alert: he doesn't exactly die, so I think it was alright if they didn't make it too dramatic or melancholic. Still made me cry buckets nevertheless lol.
I'm not very good at character analyses so I would recommend reading this one over here. It's one of the best character breakdown I've ever seen for Kunikida and they have covered this part of the manga as well!
Of course, another amazing explanation of this scene is by Asagiri-sensei themselves, which you can find here.
Yet another deleted scene...
Kyouka decides to go save Atsushi
(BSD Chapter 63)
If you're curious about when Kyouka decided to go and save Atsushi instead and how they concealed themselves so well in that hole, here's an extended explanation in a flashback that was skipped in the anime. It's no surprise this was deleted, and I was pretty much expecting it as it's not that important of a detail. The most significant part of this scene of course would be the sheer determination in Kyouka's eyes to save Atsushi. I think it is a neat parallel to Atsushi back in s1 who insisted on saving Kyouka, even after Kunikida told him not to. In both instances, Kunikida tries to protest, but eventually relents and acknowledges their will and determination, lending them his aid. The anime also kinda missed giving us a cool render of that page in which Kyouka stands heroically before the military when she comes to save Atsushi (unfortunately I'm unable to add the image because of Tumblr's ten image limit...sigh).
Final thoughts
I've said this before, but I understand that anime has time constraints and other production matters that I'm unaware about, but the number of details that were removed while not surprising, was surely disappointing. My major problem was mostly with episode 7 with how rushed it was. By removing the build up, there's a certain lack of emotional depth in a number of scenes. There are many who did not find the episodes fast paced and rather consider it quite alright considering the theme of the arc, which is totally valid. However it's natural for manga readers to go into the anime with preconceived ideas about how they think the scene will go down. I'm personally just a little sad because firstly, Kunikida is my favourite character and secondly, I think he's one of the best written characters in all of BSD. He is one of the core characters in BSD, so I'm obviously disappointed that many of his parts just get removed since he's not one of the greater "fan favourites".
Of course, I have to give the anime credit where it's due. The animation is amazing this season and the voice acting is simply phenomenal. The OST is also pretty good and I desperately want that track they played for the hunting dogs introduction. They've truly given their heart and soul for this season, and I couldn't be happier as a BSD fan!! I'm super excited for the upcoming episodes!
Welp that's all from me! Thank you for coming to my ted talk! This was initially going to be just a simple compilation, until I started talking and couldn't shut up. I'm really grateful for anyone who reads this. Thank you very much!! If you've come this far, please do drop a comment because I'd love to hear your thoughts!!
Lastly, please go read the manga if you haven't already! Who knows, maybe you'll find some other missing detail of your favourite character!
