Some groups' original lineups get reduced to one. For instance, I would have never assumed the Crystal Method would end up as a solo project, yet here we are. However, the last album before the departure of Ken Jordan doesn't feel like that. Sure, they retreat to their usual sounds as if the 90's never ended. Still, should we begrudge them of that? They have basically set themselves up for an inevitable revival of their soundscapes, one could cynically add, they show up the reasons for their zeitgeist grabbing at that time. Then again, is that a bad thing? While many of their followers ape their sonics – my pet theory is that the Crystal Method were one of the originators of EDM –, they actually know how to achieve them the old way.
