Pple are going to accuse English Teacher (fx) and St Denis Medical (nbc) for "copying" Abbott Elementary, but I'm just happy that there are more shows that arent about cops and that put underappreciated professionals like teachers and nurses into the spotlight.

If you hand in your resignation letter, you could work in a restaurant or something, or, you know, do a short film with your friends. Join Amway. Amway is very good.

Prometheus in Kaos is one of very few recent examples I can think of of a genuine subjective / limited (as opposed to omniscient) narrator in a drama. It’s debatable, but he’s also probably an unreliable narrator. We actually start off thinking he’s probably omniscient, but when the shit hits the fan – he shares our dismay. He realises he was wrong.
I sometimes see the term used of any character in a drama. It’s not correct. They’re not narrators at all, reliable or otherwise. Well written drama just has…. people. Saying the things that realistic people would say. Of course their perspective is limited. Of course they say things which are unreliable. It’s kind of a people thing.
It’s also that time of year to dust off my all time favourite example of an unreliable narrator: Edgar Allen Poe’s gleefully nasty The Tell-Tale Heart. I sometimes read it in tandem with Robert Browning’s classic dramatic monologue Porphyria’s Lover. In both cases, wonderfully realised psychopaths justifying their horrible gruesome murders. Ah yes. Great stuff. Happy Halloween!

Still not over the coming out scene in the finale of English Teacher.
Still thinking it was badly done.
Sorry, it might be a sit-com and it might be comedy but are we really going to laugh at a boy trying to come out to his gay teacher, hoping for help?
Are we really going to laugh at a teenager going to a trusted adult for help?
Who else should he ask? Oh, yes, the gay schoolmates. Not the generically queer ones, though - they're doing it for "clout".
It's 2024, for heaven's sake! Come out already! It's not as bad as the 90s!
Is this really what we want to say? That struggling with one's sexual orientation is a non-issue by now? Seriously?
English Teacher, it's right there in the job description. Teacher.
No, I'm not laughing.
Nobody should.
