Tumblr media
pairing: ken sato x reader
word count: 866
genre/warnings: fluff, sort of a crack fic, 3+1 things, wrote this with a sarcastic tone LMAO, a bit of profanity, grammatical errors most likely (wrote this at 1AM), reader uses fem pronouns
synopsis: the 3 times kenji sato swore he saw you, and the 1 time he actually saw you.
a/n: yes, i'm finally giving in to the kenji sato brainrot HUHUHUH if i had known he was the reason my writer's block would disappear, would've watched the movie sooner i'm ngl edit: AAAAAA WHAT 600+ NOTES??? U GUYS ARE INSANEEE I LOVE YOU ALL this is now up on my ao3!!
Tumblr media
At the New Tokyo Dome at his first game as a Giants player
Maybe he was just dreaming, maybe it was the fatigue actually catching up to him ever since he hopped off that plane, or maybe he did actually see you in that stadium amongst the crowd cheering his name. You, as in his childhood best friend, arguably one of the best parts of his childhood in Japan before leaving for LA. You, as in the childhood best friend he never got to say a proper goodbye to. You, as in the childhood best friend whom he always missed and cried to his mom about whenever he'd get homesick. (You, as in the childhood best friend he'd harbored a secret crush on as a kid. As an adult? Psh, what sane person gets hung up on a person who must've forgotten him all those years ago. Not Ken Sato, for sure, yeah, uh-huh.) He'd never know for certain, of course, because as he was about to stop and look, a Kaiju crashed a KDF plane into the ceiling of the stadium.
KAIJU ALERT, his watch blared in an angry red face. He sighed, making his way to the nearest stadium exit and heading towards the dimly-lit part of the street by the stadium. Not without stopping for a split second because he thought he saw your silhouette. Silhouette, really? My God, Kenji, pull yourself together, he told himself. Of course, that wouldn’t be your silhouette because he definitely doesn’t know what you look like anymore, what food you like, what your job is, how you held up after he left for LA. Of course, he doesn’t know that.
Shaking off any more thoughts of you, Kenji turned into his giant alter-ego to fight off the Kaiju wreaking havoc on the streets of Tokyo. (a distraction, really, as Mina would say.)
Tumblr media
2. On a grocery run looking exhausted as hell.
It had been two weeks since he took in the baby kaiju in his basement and Kenji Sato has never been more exhausted. If you ask him, exhausted would be an understatement. Nevertheless, his mind was actually alive (much to Mina's surprise) because he swears this time, that he actually saw you. With his own two eyes. As if locked in a daze, he secretly followed you like a lost puppy with a push cart in the grocery store before realizing you were heading for the exit. He stopped in his tracks as the doors opened for you, realizing the items he got weren't paid for yet.
Begrudgingly, he went back inside the grocery and got the rest of the items he needed before going back to his house.
Next time, I swear, I'll talk to her, Kenji said to himself as he drove back to his place.
Tumblr media
3. During Emi's acid reflux rampage.
Shit, shit, shit, he cursed to himself like a mantra as he zoomed across the streets of Tokyo on his bike, trying to chase after the pink baby kaiju that somehow escaped his basement that he explicitly placed under the care of Mina (in case you couldn’t tell, he's definitely glaring at his AI assistant). Looking at the construction site beside him as he sat in traffic, an idea popped in his head. He could use that to give him a boost to quickly get to the baby. He rode up the makeshift ramp and turned into his giant alter-ego, catching his bike in time.
"Holy shit." He froze. Goddammit, had he really been that careless? Changing in front of a civilian? Nervously chuckling, he turned around to face the owner of the voice, mentally preparing his response [read: excuse] only to be wide-eyed and speechless. The owner of the voice was you. You, as in his childhood best friend, whom he's been trying to catch up with ever since he landed in Japan.
"What the fuck! Ultraman is Ke-" You exclaimed before you got rudely interrupted by the giant superhero. "Hey, shhh! Can we, like, stay quiet on this matter? I know I don't have an NDA right now but my bike will suffice, I guess. I'll get it back from you, I swear, I just really have to take care of this right now. Treat you to our usual spot? Thanks!" He said frantically before running away to take care of his huge baby problem.
Not really the best way to reconnect with your childhood best friend.
Tumblr media
+1. After the battle at sea with the KDF.
"Hey, sorry for being late, had to take care of something." He apologized as he jogged up to you on your usual hang-out spot when you were children. You reassured him, saying that you had just arrived, too. "I didn't know what kinda stuff you eat now as an athlete superstar so I just went for the safest convenience store options." You said sheepishly, holding up the plastic bags with a weary smile. "I don't mind, I actually like convenience store snacks." He beamed on how you still remember what he used to like as a kid.
"So, Ken Sato, gonna explain?"
"Oh, you're gonna want to sit down for this."

baby mama <3 (7/1)
syn -> taiju has a baby mother, and he just can't get over her. it seems like she can't get over him.
warnings : drinknig, reader is a bitch (a bad one tho), rejection,
notes : there's gonna be a second part to this chapter. sorry for making you wait, but enjoy!
Tumblr media
-
“ana! don’t run in their house!” you yell, dragging her suitcase into the home with a frown.
almost immediately, the ryuguji’s girl turns the corner and drags anastasia into a hug.
you frown in slight annoyance, tired of chasing after her all day.
draken comes in from the garage, hands a bit dirty and overalls hanging from his waist.
“hey mama. how you doing?” he greets, washing his hands of the car oil in the kitchen sink.
when they’re clean and dry, he pulls you into a big warm hug.
“so exhausted. thank you for watching ana while I’m gone.” you sigh, pulling away and looking at him.
“course. love her like she’s my own, and so does emma.” draken explains, watching the girls talk about whatever nonsense they planned to do.
you read off everything you brought for her and anything extra that could be needed.
you hand off your spare house keys in case for emergencies or if that spoiled brat of yours feels too homesick.
he knows you prepared just enough so she doesn’t call your phone down fifty times a day on your vacation.
“ken! did you wash your hands in the kitchen again?!” emma yells out, stepping out of the kitchen with a disgusted look.
draken gives his wife a warm smile, knowing that he had irritated her soul with that action.
“sorry baby. had to grab ana’s stuff, s'heavy.” he lied, swiftly taking the things from your hand.
at the sound of her name, emma walks over to you with a huge smile and wraps her arms around you.
after the birth of her baby girl, her body had filled out nicely and she wasn’t as small as she was before.
her face was slightly chunkier, but she definitely grew more of an ass.
“gonna miss you girl. we gotta have one of those wine dates when you come back.” emma smiles, playfully rubbing your hips.
you nod with a laugh, removing her hands and fixing your clothes.
“we can plan it when i come back, but i have a flight to catch.” you inform, looking at the clock.
at the sound of that, anastasia comes running down the hall and squeezes you into a tight hug.
you kneel down and hug her back, kissing her cheek and forehead.
“behave, ana. i love you, bunches.” you mutter into her ear as you fix her dress with a smile.
“love you too mommy!” ana beams proudly, before pressing a kiss into your cheek.
you let her go and she runs off, making you smile big at her.
you say your goodbyes to everyone else and head back to your home, where taiju was waiting for you.
he was sitting outside of his car on his phone waiting when you pulled into the garage.
“where’s ana?” taiju asks, walking in beside you and looking around.
“ryuguji’s. can you grab my suitcase?" you ask without sparing him a glance, stopping in the mirror in the hall.
he stands behind you with a furious look, crossing his arms as he tries to keep his eyes on your face.
"i thought i told you i was coming to see her soon?" taiju asked, holding his negative tonuge.
you look at him confused through the mirror before fixing your tits in the cami you sported.
"and i thought i told you be here by nine so we can go out to breakfast. pamela keeping you busy?" you pout ignorantly, walking further into the house.
taiju follows behind you angrily, still not understanding why you were so petty towards her.
"her name is layna and you know it." taiju informs, grabbing your suitcases and bags.
you pick up your blanket and hoodie off the couch, before looking at him with a sweet smile.
"why do you want to talk about her so much? she isn't here." you whisper, dropping your things on the couch.
taiju stands still as you wrap your arms around his neck and pull him down closer to you.
your things sit by his feet, though his hands don't move to wrap around his waist like they always do.
"think we have time for a quickie?" you questioned, taking your hand and rubbing it down his chest with a smile.
taiju lets out a heavy sigh before pulling your hands off his body.
you frown in confusion as he grabs your stuff and begins to walk towards the garage once more.
"we have to stop this. grab your things and let's go, layna is waiting in the car and i don't wanna make her wait any longer." taiju sighs, looking at you from the corner of his eye.
you scoff, and immediately began to feel irritated.
he had some fucking nerve to bring her here and tell you what you have to and can't do.
and he was making you ride in the same car as her?
oh hell no.
"put my shit down and get out of here. i'll find my way there." you curse at him, grabbing your phone and immediately opening your messages app.
"we're already fucking late. go get. in the car." taiju demands, before walking out of your house with your things.
you scream in frustration, throwing your phone down in irritation and listen to it shatter into pieces.
it was childish, sure, but you didn't know how else to relieve yourself from the irritation.
you were not gonna have the best time.
-
you sat in the backseat of the car with your arms folded in annoyance, feeling a bit crowded with all the things next to you.
mayra sat in the front seat snug and happy, recording her and taiju every now and then.
'smug bitch' you thought to yourself, ready to shove your foot so far into the back of her neck so her front teeth collide with the dash.
"you okay back there? sighing a lot." taiju checks in, looking at the mirror to try and see you.
"fuck you." you say in reply, offering him your middle finger.
taiju says nothing in return, just looking back at the road with a disappointed frown.
pariah turns around and looks at you with an apologetic smile, placing her phone into her lap.
"hey, i know we got off on the wrong foot. but since we'll be on vacation together, i think we should put our differences aside." she starts, tucking her hair behind her ear.
the girl begins rattling on about the 'misunderstandings' and her feeling bad on her part and whatever nonsense she had to say.
you stared at her while she smiled the entire time, squinting your eyes at her while she spoke.
finally, she finished and waiting for your response.
you rolled your eyes, adjusted yourself into the seat, and looked out the window.
"fuck you." you say with a fake smile, before letting the guy open the door and walking away.
you see yuzuha and hakkai waiting by the front for the three of you, a big smile on their faces.
"hey, did you book your room? if not you can stay in mines." yuzuha asks, pulling you into a warm hug.
you hug back before sighing, and giving hakkai one as well.
"not staying in the hotel. shu said i can use his house and he'll be down in two days." you explain, fixing your hair.
you feel a hand on your shoulder and immediately slap the hand off, turning around defensively.
although it was just taiju, you still huff and back away from him a bit.
"can i talk to you? alone?" taiju asks, obviously stressed out from your outburst towards his girlfriend.
you practically laugh in his face before walking off, following hakkai and yuzuha to the private jet.
-
you were dropped off first, walking into the gorgeous big house that your best friend had owned.
hakkai helped you bring your stuff in, offering you a bit of a sad smile.
"you sure you'll be alright alone in here? i can stay if you'd like?" hakkai offers, leaning on the couch.
you shake your head and fix your hair in the mirror, giving him back the same smile.
"i'd love that, kai. but you have things to do and i think i wanna be alone right now." you say to him.
he nods, and pulls you into another hug. "we're going out to breakfast tomorrow. dress nice." hakkai says, before leaving.
you wave goodbye, before closing the door behind him and looking around a bit.
it was pretty big for you to be alone in, but you didn't mind too much.
if it meant you got to be away from whatever the hell taiju and tema had going on, so be it.
you get a call from shuji seconds later, and you answer it immediately through the cracks.
"hey mama. settled in the house yet?" shuji speaks, and it sounds muffled and more robot like.
you knew you fucked up your phone before leaving, but you didn't think it was that bad until now.
"no, not yet. i literally just got in." you explain to him, taking a seat on the couch with a frown.
shuji looks at you with a frown, before pushing his eyebrows together in confusion.
"why do you sound like that?" he asks, and you immediately understand that it sounded like that on both ends.
so you begin to explain to him what happened before you had left, and your phone cuts of in the middle of it.
you tap your phone repeatedly, but it doesn't respond.
the throw must of fucked your phone up bad, and going into the air didn't make it any better.
you curse loudly, tossing it across the room like some miracle would catch it and laying back on the couch.
it was your first day in dubai and you were having the worst time of your life.
-
the sun was out of the sky, and you were fresh out of the shower.
you lotion your skin with cocoa butter and put on your new night gown and the robe.
if you couldn't have fun with anyone or talk to anyone, you would definitely have fun by yourself.
you make your way downstairs and open the wine cabinet, pulling out the most expensive one and a glass.
the alexa rings through the house, getting your attention almost immediately.
since your phone broke, shuji had been using his alexas to communicate with you and check in through the cameras.
it made you feel secure and not alone knowing that he was checking in every now and then.
"shu says : love you girl, hope you're alright. ps, pop a titty on the lv rm cam if you need me. winky face." alexa recites.
you turn to the camera with a giggle and offer him the middle finger, presenting the bottle in your other hand.
you turn to the counter and pour yourself a glass, smiling to yourself.
"hey alexa! play everyone falls in love by tanto metro!" you say, turning to the machine.
she complies and the beat fills the air, making you excited.
you skip over to the machine with the glass in your hand and turn it up to it's max.
and eventually, you're on your fifth or sixth glass of wine and everything is a bit blurry.
"alexa baby.. play love by keyisha cole- no! play marvin's room by drake!" you demand, trading the glass for the bottle.
you don't know how many songs you've listened to, but shuji's playback list can tell you tomorrow.
the song begins to play from the speakers as you take a long sip from the bottle.
you sway to the beat, not hearing the front door beep and swing open slowly.
the liquid comforts your throat and gives you more singing energy.
"cups of the rose! bitches in my old phone." you sing loudly, holding the bottle in the air.
consequences be damned, you were having fun tonight.
taiju watches you swing your body around the kitchen, rolling your hips softly to catch the beat.
"i should call one and go home. i ben in this club too longg!" you giggle, drinking from the bottle some more.
taiju knows you well, and he knows well that this isn't how you act after drinking.
he doesn't know what got into you, but after the next line you sing, he understands.
"the man that i would try! is happy with a ugly bitch!" you slam your hand on the counter angrily, staring at the bottle.
"i've been drinking so much.. i can't call him anyway to say-.." you pause, turning around to see taiju staring at you.
he looked at you with a hint of sadness, and you didn't like that.
the two of you don't exchange words, he just walks over and turns the alexa down some.
he places the bag onto the counter and sighs, staring at the marble.
"hanma called me. gave me the spare key before we left. got you a new phone." taiju explains shortly, unmoving from his place.
you hug him around his waist and take a big whiff of his scent.
he smells so much like the perfume you had bought him when he took you shopping for this trip, and you loved it.
the sound you let out goes unnoticed by you, but not taiju.
you can tell because he shifts away from you shortly and pulls your hands off him.
the action hurts more than you think it should, makes your heart ache and you don't know why.
until it opens your eyes and tells you everything you need to know.
the divorce you had with taiju was one sided. your feelings for the man had never gone away.
you had just were in deep denial.
the feeling hurts, and it hurts bad.
maybe it's the amount of alcohol you had tonight, or maybe it's because he's in front of you right now.
but you feel too emotional, and he can't see you like this.
you walk away from him and walk into the living room, sitting on the floor across from the couch.
you hide your face in your knees and whimper, feeling yourself begin to cry.
you know your panties are showing from under your dress, but you can't care. you're embarrassed.
taiju tries to lift your head from your lap but you fight him on it, shoving his hand off your head.
you're full on sobbing now, and finally lift your face to look at him.
you don't want his fucking pity, but you can't tell him that.
you sob some more, feeling like your daughter when she doesn't get her way in the mall.
"why taiju? why did you divorce me?" you practically beg, wiping your eyes harshly and whining.
and the look taiju gives you makes you sick.

after seeing your college au post a prompt struck me. mine is a bit different though:
charles' major is something artsy and he doesn't care for scientific things at all, and max's geography like your au and he is a total nerd. thanks to lando who wants people to mingle their friend groups organize a meet up. charles and max don't interact that much. but when charles comes back from a phone call with his mother, which he miscalculated the time and caught her at a bad time, says 'why even there is a time difference?' max can't help himself side eyes him and whispers to lando 'is he an idiot or what?' which charles hears and frowns when max turns to him all judgy and says, 'this is one of the main outcomes of the earth rotating.'
and after this rude response charles hates max. everytime they have to be in the same place they bicker like crazy.
(I have to mention my bestfriend here who inspired me and is a math teacher but absolutely doesn't get geography. when she went that overseas vacation she couldn't understand the time at all and made me tear up with her stupid understanding of it 😂)
ANON THIS MADE ME GIGGLE SO MUCH. Different is good, different is delicious, even. more cake. more stories. more AUs!!
Charles doesn't understand time zones 😭 maybe he knows Max is a giant nerd and is being deliberately obtuse 😭 maybe he does it just to annoy max because max is kind of weirdly hot and charles doesn't know what to do in the face of those big blue eyes and all of his subsequent, very inconvenient feelings 😜
now. this is ur wonderful prompt. me being the angsty + miscommunication trope enthusiast that i am, my (very personal! very subjective!) characterisation of charles is always going to be that he is actually very bright, or at least some level of competent and focused on the details of what he is doing. but we all space out a little sometimes, and so does he.
so u have given me a beautiful cake and may i suggest adding a later of emoshunal filling in the middle of this, which is that
charles has had a really long day with classes and extracurriculars and on top of that idk, his washing machine broke cus he overloaded it or something. and that’s why he just totally misjudged the actual time diff
he is horribly homesick and just called his mom to hear her voice, screw the timing. so when he blurts out to max that he called her and didn't realise the time, he really didn't
he was so stunned by max's weird mix of dorky and pedantic and hot that he just fumbled all his words
literally all of the above cus they're OUR stoopid kissy kissy ken dolls and if it's necessary for da plot then why NOT
so it's not a meet cute. it's a meet-misunderstanding. a meet-discord. a meet-disaster, if you will. and of course lando's just standing there with his phone in his hands sitting pretty watching this play out because in my head he's always here for the chaos.
now, beloved anon. how will lestappen resolve their issues? will they
accidentally run into each other at the natural history museum for different story-necessary field trip reasons, and max actually takes the time to tell charles all his favourite maps? and charles actually listens?
will charles end up cracking max's tough exterior open while they're working on an assignment late one night. and charles realises max knows all the time differences because it's important to max (literally) that he makes up the lost time with his mama who he didn't grow up with?
mayhaps they don't talk about it at all but argue about something totally arbitrary one afternoon (like... charles insists on a historical fact about monaco that max says is wrong but is actually right). and it culminates in awkwardly cramped but still hot hatesex in one of their dorms. and after that max says nothing at all about their first argument, but helps charles download an app that works out the best windows to call home?
and in the end, no matter what happens, we gotta surely squeeze this in somewhere:
"you're such an idiot sometimes."
"i know. but i'm your idiot. all the time." 😤😤
anyway tl;dr i really enjoyed this idea, and thank u for sharing it with me. it is very precious and very good. may the plot bunnies and muse-ly entities always be with you and bless you with gentle metaphorical kisses to the forehead, mwah mwah mwah

Homesick headcanons from Webtoon made by Ms.Freaky because I have nothing better to do. (It’s a school night and it’s 10 at night)
Gladiolus is that one person who you can drag around and he wouldn’t mind at all.
He also finds a lot things mundane and he doesn’t understand how people find happiness in things.
Gladiolus had a shitty childhood when he was younger, which is why he doesn’t show emotions much
Rayne was always reckless and got hurt a lot, so Tomoha learnt how to use a first aid kit due to it.
Kenny and Sam are both Argentinian, and they can speak Spanish as well because they often visited their extended family there.
Poppy is really good at doing hair, but is extremely rough with it. He also used to have a pet snake and cat.
Tomoha and Kenny sometimes voice over fanfics whenever they’re bored and have nothing else to do.
Kenny also makes a lot of dumb decisions, which Tomoha sometimes has to use a first aid kit for.
Kenny and Gladiolus used to hate each other, mostly on Kenny’s part, because he thought that Glad didn’t really care about the group at the house, when in reality, he doesn’t know how to show it.
Once they got along, which took awhile, they were decent friends.
Gladiolus often watched over Kenny when he was out and about because he knows Kenny will do something dumb.
Kenny and Samael used to go around telling everyone they were siblings, but as they grew older Sam started hating Ken.
Now only Kenny says that their brothers.
Rayne cannot cook at all. If she were to cook food for Tomoha and Sam they would wait till she isn't looking to throw it away
She once almost burned down the kitchen before the apocalypse by accident because she tried to cook.
Sam would throw it out right in front of her, and he would have a disgusted look and say “you should invest in some cooking lessons.”
Kenny would straight up say that her cooking sucks.
Tomoha would be holding back tears and give her a thumbs up while trying not to vomit.
Kenny once ate her food by accident and he got food poisoning.
Samael is a huge cat person and dislikes dogs
Meanwhile Kenny loves dogs and dislikes cats.
Tomoha is the one who likes both and she just watches them argue.
She sometimes tries to stop them but mostly just watches it because she finds it entertaining.
While it was just the 3 of them, Tomoha blames herself for what happened at the house and Kenny tries his best to reassure her that it wasn’t
For a few weeks, she couldn’t bring herself to look at the other two due to her believing herself as a burden and/or someone who would drag them down.
Which is why she took it seriously when Sam made a joke about her walking loudly and when Ogre died. She views herself as a reliability.
Sam tried to reassure her that she wasn’t, but it came off as rude and Kenny made him apologize for it.
Poppy likely beat up a Wendy’s worker because they got Oaks order wrong.
They’re (being Poppy and Oak) childhood friends.
Oak was always the calm child while Poppy was the troublemaker.
One of their favorite pastimes (before everything happened), they would often go camping and/or go to the park.
Poppy is rather overprotective of Oak because he didn’t have the greatest childhood and Oak was the first person he made friends with.
Let’s ignore the fact that they’re all in my hc book on my AO3 account ❤️

other chapters: chapter master list
The day continued and Kent managed to make it through yet another round of training exercises. When he felt like his body was going to collapse from exhaustion, the general in charge blew a whistle and signaled they would have a short break. Kent was extremely grateful and sprawled out on the grass beneath him.
He looked at the sky and felt a small wave of homesickness wash over him. He knew that, back in the city, Jodi was looking at the same sky he was. Kent missed Jodi and - because of all the commotion recently - hadn't been able to properly write her a letter. He didn't even know what he would say or what he could say. Talking about Danny made him upset but there wasn't anything else he could think about - other than his own selfishness and guilt, but that eventually tied back into the previous topic. Kent sighed, shaking the idea from his head entirely.
He watched the clouds and tried to find any distinct shapes. Though, he couldn't help but remember how he had done something similar with Jodi before he left. That thought made his heart ache even more and Kent wondered how long it would be before he could see Jodi again. His Jodi. Well, while he called her that name, it wasn't entirely true. If anything, he was more “her Kent”.  After all, she was the one who had chosen to marry him. She could've had anyone in the entire world, yet she chose to be with him. He didn't quite understand why she chose him - all he knew was that he was grateful she did. He was happy to be her husband, to be “her Kent”.
Kent looked at the sky once again, though it was soon clouded by a strange shadow blocking his vision. He glanced around confusedly before realizing someone had walked up to him and was now peering down at him from above.
“What are ya doin’, lad?” Willy called out. He gently nudged Kent with his boot, raising an eyebrow.
“Cloud gazing,” Kent replied.
“Why, though?” Willy asked, his confusion growing.
“I’m not quite sure, actually,” Kent started, furrowing his brows as he tried to think of the reason for his actions. It soon popped into his head and he added, “I think.. I think it's because I miss my wife. She loves the sky, you know? She once told me she wanted to become an astronomer so I guess.. I sort of associate the sky with her.”
“Ah.. I see,” Willy spoke with a small nod. “I've never been married meself, so I can't relate to that.. But, when you get done fantasizin’ about that lass of yers, I have a job for you,” He explained carefully, giving Kent another encouraging nudge with the toe of his boot.
Kent pushed himself into a standing position, dusted off the hem of his uniform and followed Willy to a nearby shack. As Willy opened the door, Kent’s eyes widened at the contents. It appeared to be a weapons storeroom, filled to the brim with different rifles and ammunition. Kent gulped. He knew that was obviously a part of his training, but he hadn't imagined he would actually hold one in his hands - or even see one, for that matter. Willy grabbed the nearest one before carefully placing it into Kent’s arms.
“Follow me. I'll show ya how to use one o’ these, buggers,” Willy instructed. Though he didn't wait on any protest or further comments from Kent before walking away - causing Kent to yelp and speed walk to catch up. When he finally caught up to Willy, he noticed several other cadets - one being Lee. He waved at his friend, though he noticed Lee seemed slightly queasy.
The demonstration was very quick, yet somehow informative. By watching Willy, Kent was able to glean what was happening. Target practice, he concluded, and some people seemed to be having a tougher time than others.
“Willy, do I really have to do this?” Lee asked, his voice filling with concern. His face turned slightly green with nausea. Kent knew Lee hated weapons of any kind. He felt sorry for his friend.
“Aye, lad,” Willy confirmed, giving a small nod. “It's important you learn how to defend yourself.”
“Besides, you will only use this for self defense, do you understand, son?”
Lee gave a meek nod in Willy’s direction. He held the rifle securely in his arms, resting the butt against his shoulder before squaring his hips - aligning his feet toward the target. He took a deep breath, felt his finger tightening against the trigger. Kent said a silent prayer to Yoba - hoping Lee didn't accidentally miss and maim himself or Willy - before watching him aim directly at the distant target and release his finger. The gun resounded with a sharp bang and recoiled harshly against his shoulder. Kent gritted his teeth, trying not to wince on Lee’s behalf. He knew that must've hurt.
Once everyone was properly trained, they were given assignments in what remained of the nearby town. Ideally, they would survey the town, scrounge up anything useful, and then report back to Willy with their findings. But nothing ever went accordingly, did it? No, Kent knew something would go wrong the second he stepped into the outskirts of the dilapidated town.
He glanced around and tried to note anything that seemed interesting - which was a particularly hard task, since everything was ruined and appeared to be covered in a thick layer of ash. It made him wonder what exactly transpired. He also wondered what happened to all the people. As he kept walking further into the town, he had yet to see a single person (other than his squad mates, that is). It worried him. He knew there were rumors of the Gatoro Empire’s cruelty - how they wiped out entire towns or took civilians hostage. He shuddered just thinking about it. Maybe everyone was successfully evacuated and nothing bad happened? He hoped so, anyway.
Kent continued his search - yet he still came up empty handed. Nothing seemed useful in this place, so why was Willy making them investigate? More importantly, what would happen if he didn't find anything of value? Kent shuddered once again. He really didn't want to find out, so he kept looking. Kent approached another building and carefully pushed the door open with the edge of his rifle. It edged open slowly and revealed a messy room: tables overturned, dishes broken and the shards of porcelain scattered across the floor, and a small, bare mattress in the corner.
Kent sighed, assuming he had come upon yet another house that yielded nothing of value. He gave a quick look around anyway and, when he was met with nothing, he turned to exit. However, a small flash of movement appeared in his peripheral vision. Kent stopped in his tracks. The sound of shuffling and clamoring drew him closer to the overturned table. He carefully approached before peering over the edge of the table.
To Kent’s surprise, he saw a woman - who looked no older than her mid twenties. Her eyes were red and puffy, as if she hadn't slept in several days. Her hair was jet black - long and tangled into knots around the edges. Her clothing was tattered.  Her eyes widened as she looked at Kent, noticing the rifle in his hands. She backed against the wall, afraid. Kent noticed her fear and frowned.
“I'm not going to hurt you, okay?” Kent spoke calmly. He placed his rifle down, gently kicking it away before raising his hands to show her he was now unarmed. He waited, watching her scrutinize him before attempting to speak again, “I'm here to help you, I promise.”
Kent reached his hand out in an attempt to help the woman up. She grabbed it and moved into a standing position. Unfortunately her eyes flashed crazily and she leapt over the side of the table, tackling Kent in the process. He fell backwards, hitting the ground with a faint “oomph”. The woman hovered over him and unsheathed a small blade. Kent’s eyes widened.
“Wait- I’m not gonna hurt you!” Kent protested, his voice cracking with fear. But it didn't seem like the woman heard him. The woman lunged and Kent held up his arm to block the blow. The knife slashed through his uniform, cutting into the skin beneath. He let out a groan of pain, gritting his teeth.
He glanced to his left and looked at his discarded firearm. If only he could reach it. He stuck his uninjured arm out and attempted to grasp the barrel of the rifle. Unfortunately, it was much farther away than he anticipated. He tried to scoot himself closer, wincing as he used his injured arm to propel himself. Kent had almost managed to grab it when the woman struck again. He barely reacted fast enough to shove her weapon away, though it earned him another nasty gash on his forearm.
Kent attempted to push the woman off of him but her knees dug into his chest. While he was attempting to free himself, the woman lunged once more - landing a nasty blow on the side of his face and sinking the weapon into the tender flesh of the corner of his mouth. He let out a scream of agony as the metallic taste of blood seeped onto his tongue.
Kent’s scream was quiet, but loud enough to be heard by anyone in the general vicinity. Lee’s ears perked up at the sound and he rushed into the building, nearly knocking the door off its hinges as he forced it open. His eyes widened at the scene. Lee froze as the woman raised her knife once again. Kent attempted to roll out of the way and received another wound - a deep cut across the bridge of his nose. He let out another cry before glancing up and noticing Lee.
“Lee!” He called out, pleading with his friend to do something.
Lee’s hands were shaking. He held the rifle in his hands, the tremors nearly causing him to drop it. He looked between the two - his friend, being violently attacked, and a woman whom he didn't know. His mind raced. It was possible Kent had just startled her, she couldn't actually want to harm him, right? His ears rung with the sound of Kent’s pleas for help. Lee thought back on Willy’s words earlier that day. This certainly constitutes “self defense” he reasoned with himself.
Kent called once again, groaning as the knife struck him once more. Lee hesitated, overtaken by indecision. He couldn't hurt anyone - no, he wouldn't hurt anyone, but if he didn't, he might lose another friend. He also knew that the longer he stood without acting, the worse the situation would become.
Lee gulped. He felt something overtake him: a battle between two sides of himself, the pacifist and the friend. One half argued he could run away, to leave this situation to someone else, the other half knew that no one else was coming - if anyone was going to fix this, it had to be him. Eventually, one won over the other. He was tired of running away from things. Lee steadied his grip and silently hoped his aim was true. He closed his eyes and fired.
A figure slumped and the faint clatter of metal was heard as the knife hit the floor. Kent scrambled backwards, pushing the woman off of him as a large red splatter seeped through the fabric of her torn shirt. He winced as he inspected his wounds - all of which were deep gashes that would take a while to heal, if they healed at all.
Lee glanced at Kent and his breath hitched in his throat. He approached his friend and inspected him.
“Oh, Yoba... Kent, you're bleeding,” Lee spoke, panic rising in his voice. His eyes widened and he looked around the room nervously. “Um.. I need to get you back. Let the medics look at you. Those look bad.”
“I'll be fine, Lee,” Kent tried to convince his friend. Though, he winced as he tried to push himself up. His arms were shaking and the sleeves of his uniform were covered in rips.
Lee frowned and motioned for Kent to stay still. He looked around the room and tried to find any sort of bandages. Lee gasped as his eyes landed on the woman laying on the ground, the pool of red spreading beneath her.
“Oh.. my Yoba..” Lee exclaimed, his face paling. He suddenly looked as if he was going to vomit. A look of pure distress covered his face. He gripped his chest, hyperventilating as he back up against the wall. He slumped against the wall, sliding down to the floor and tightening his fist against the fabric of his shirt.
“Did-. did I..? Is she..?” Lee stammered. His breathing sped up and Lee moved his hands to grip the sides of his head. He was rocking back and forth now, his eyes wide in a guilty panic.
“It's not your fault, Lee,” Kent reassured, reaching a hand out and placing it on Lee’s shoulder. He winced at the movement. Kent was in unimaginable pain, but at least he was alive. All thanks to Lee. “You saved me, man. You did what you had to,” He added.
Kent attempted to push himself into a standing position to comfort Lee further, though his arms were raw and achy. He didn’t manage to get very far before stumbling and landing back on the ground with a faint thump. Lee noticed the sound and shook himself out of his stupor. He couldn’t waste time feeling guilty, not when Kent was this badly injured. Lee looked at his friend and frowned - Kent was pale and had gashes lining both forearms and two deep cuts across his face. Kent also looked as if he was going to pass out any moment.
“C’mon, man,” Lee spoke, momentarily pushing his own panic aside. He had more important things to worry about right now. Lee shakily stood up and approached Kent before reaching his hand out and attempting to help him stand. He hesitated, unsure of where to touch that would cause Kent the least amount of pain. Lee carefully wrapped his arms around Kent’s midsection and hoisted him upwards. Kent let out another groan of pain, though he let Lee help him into a standing position.
“Can you walk by yourself?” Lee asked - his voice ripe with concern. Kent gave a small nod and attempted to take a shaky step forward. Unfortunately, he was still rather dizzy from blood loss and stumbled. Kent slumped against Lee’s side. “Okay.. I’ll take that as a no,” Lee added, a frown once again spreading across his lips.
Lee exhaled a small breath as he thought about the best course of action. Obviously, he would have to provide some sort of support for Kent, but he couldn’t do that and carry both of their rifles at the same time. Asking Kent to carry something was out of the question, so Lee was limited on options. Eventually, he decided to simply make two trips. That seemed to be the easiest thing to do. With his plan in mind, he rested his hand on the small of Kent’s back - carefully draping Kent’s arm over his shoulder - and carefully guided him back to their camp. Lee glanced around, looking for the medical tent. He and Kent slowly crept towards the entrance of the tent. When they finally reached it, Lee flung open the fabric - accidentally startling one of the poor nurses inside.
“Oh Yoba,” One the nurses exclaimed as she looked at the state Kent was in. She quickly approached the two boys and motioned for another nurse to clear a nearby cot. “What happened to him?” She asked frantically, his eyes widening with concern.
“I’m not sure..,” Lee admitted, his brows knitting together. “We were on a mission - scouting for resources - and… and then I heard screaming from a nearby building. I ran in and saw he was getting attacked,” Lee explained carefully.
The nurse nodded and motioned for Lee to follow her, Kent in tow. Kent was placed onto the edge of the cot. Kent glanced up at the worried faces above him and frowned. It couldn’t be that bad, could it? He felt fine, for the most part, just woozy and every part of him ached. He felt the softness of the padded cot beneath him and sunk into it, letting it cradle his aching body.
The comfort of sleep compelled him and he began to slowly drift off. The two people above him spoke but it was distant and unintelligible. Kent didn’t feel like listening to them. He just wanted to sleep. To dream. He glanced up once again. This time, instead of the nurse and Lee above him, he saw the smiling face of his wife. Jodi giggled, clamping her hand over her mouth. Kent smiled up at her. Then everything went dark. Kent closed his eyes and finally allowed himself to succumb to the sweet siren call of sleep.
When Kent opened his eyes, he was incredibly confused - and sore. He wasn't aware of how long he'd been out. He could barely remember what happened. All he knew was that he was now covered in bandages and that everything hurt. Kent glanced around the dimly lit tent and tried to remember where he was. As he was doing this, Kent wondered where he friend had gone. He distinctly remembered entering - wherever he was - with Lee, but now the boy was nowhere to be seen. Kent thought it was quite odd.
He continued to look around. His eyes landed on the slightly open flap at the front of the tent. He notices the silhouette of two people, one flailing their arms angrily. It sounded like some form of argument was going on outside. Kent strained his ears and tried to decipher what was being said. All he managed to catch was bits and pieces.
“--Ever, and I mean ever, going to touch one of these things again.”
“Aw, come on, lad, it’s not that bad.”
“You weren't there. You don't know-”
“I assure ya, I do.”
“I'm not ever going to touch one of these stupid things again. I don't want to hurt people, self defense or not.”
With the last sentence, the figure on the left roughly shoved a long, awkwardly shaped object into the hands of the person they were talking to. Afterwards, the left figure stormed off, leaving the figure on the right shaking their head in disbelief.
“Poor lad.. He's goin’ to get himself killed with that attitude..” The voice grumbled with a small sigh. They began to move, though not in the way Kent assumed. The figure approached the tent and Kent gave a small yelp. He laid back against the pillow and squeezed his eyes shut, pretending to be asleep. Maybe they wouldn't accuse him of eavesdropping? This could actually work! Kent thought silently as the man walked closer. He carefully peaked out of the corner of one of his eyes and noticed Willy pushing the flap of the tent open.
“Kent, ya can open your eyes,” Willy spoke as he entered the tent. He continued, slight confrontation in his voice, “I know yer awake, son.” Guess not, he thought to himself.
Kent opened his eyes and looked at Willy. The older man propped himself against the edge of Kent’s cot and leaned over, resting his elbows on his knees and hanging his head.
“Ye know that friend o’ yers?” Willy spoke. His voice was rather calm, but Kent could tell he was exasperated.
“Lee? What about him?” Kent asked, tilting his head to the side in confusion.
“You need ta look out fer him,” Willy explained, letting out a long sigh before adding, “do you understand me, lad?”
“What? Why?” Kent replied. He knew Lee was particular about certain things, but that didn't mean he needed a babysitter. If anything, Lee proved himself far more capable than Kent. Kent couldn't save his friend, but Lee managed to do that.
“He…” Willy started, pursing his lips as he debated how to say it nicely.
“He..?”
Willy took a deep breath and rubbed his sweaty palms against his thighs. He smacked his lips thoughtfully before speaking,  “Look lad, when I say this, I mean it nicely..”
“Willy, please,” Kent pleaded and attempted to frown, though he winced as the skin around his lips moved. “Just spit it out. I'm sure I'll understand.”
Willy closed his eyes, hesitating. Kent narrows his eyes in annoyance. Willy exhaled and finally blurted out his point, “I'm worried, about yer friend I mean. He refuses to use the rifles. With behavior like that.. well, I'm not t’ sure he’ll last long.”
“Willy, what exactly are you saying?” Kent asked, furrowing his brows. By the sound of it, Kent almost assumed he was insinuating something awful about Lee. Kent knew he was very sensitive to violence and that he absolutely despised weapons, but Kent didn't see how it could be a problem- it was just a personal preference, after all.
Willy turned and looked at Kent, his expression turning serious. “I’m sayin’ he's going to get us all killed, Kent.”
“What?” Kent asked, his voice coating with a mixture of shock and anger. He couldn't believe Willy had just said something like that - about Kent’s friend, nonetheless. His brows furrowed together and his lip quirked slightly to the side - not far, as Kent didn't want to harm himself further.
“Ah..” Willy spoke, realization washing over his features. He grimaced and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Look, son, I didn’t.. mean it like that, y’see? I'm just worried about the poor bugger. I don't want him to get stuck in a situation where he needs to defend himself and he can't.”
Willy pursed his lips together, thinking. He thought some more before adding, “And - knowing you - you'd risk yer neck to save him. I don't want that to happen. So, please - for the sake of me poor ol’ heart - watch out for your friend. Try to convince him that it's a  necessary precaution.”
Kent raised his eyebrow skeptically. What Willy said did make sense, but Kent wasn't sure it would work. He knew Lee, which meant he also knew just how much something like this meant to him. There were very few things that Lee absolutely refused to do, so Kent knew this one must be of high importance to him. He didn't want to overstep or tell Lee that his preferences were invalid. On the other hand, he had already lost one friend. Kent wasn't sure he could handle losing another.
He looked back at Willy and nodded. Willy reached over and gave a fatherly pat on Kent’s knee before standing.
“Now, get yerself some rest. Ya need to take it easy. The nurse said ye lost alotta blood..” Willy spoke as he moved away from Kent's cot. He looked at him and gave a faint smile before adding, “You're going to have some pretty good scars there, lad.”

Mr Evershed x Student!reader - my country
Tumblr media
Hey 👋 do you think you could write about a Mr. Evershed student reader, but the student is an exchange student of a country of your choice. Just an idea but can you also write something else: so, reader has been here for a few weeks. And is totally overwhelmed. For example, reader doesn’t understand some phrases and therefore doesn’t keep up in class and Mr. Evershed helps R somehow. Maybe R is homesick too. Or the guest family is not that nice… - Anon 💜
A/N: I’ve decided reader will be from Germany, writing in italics will be german
It was a few weeks until the school term, and you looked at your friend as you both followed behind the nearly bald man who led you into the school.
“You two wait there.” He said.
Sitting down, you looked to your friend who looked around the school in confusion.
“This isn’t the school they were sending us too.”
You rolled your eyes at him a little bit and shook your head.
“Come on Matty, it’s not that bad. Just give it a shot.”
The black haired boy turned to look at you and leant back in his chair.
“I was excited about London.”
“You went to London last year for your holiday. At least we’re together.”
“Yeah except we’re with different host families.”
You nodded a little bit.
“That’s true, but we’re only a few streets away.”
He smiled and grinned a little bit as you as he looked around.
“Sneak out and meet me at the park?”
“I’m trying to get good grades not run around drinking with you in the parks idiot.”
Matty laughed loudly and shrugged a little bit, and you heard some people approaching.
You both looked at them.
“Who are they?”
Matty shrugged a little.
“No idea.”
“Mrs Carter, Mr Evershed, these are (Y/N) and Matty, you’re new foreign exchange students.”
“From what country? We didn’t agree to this we hardly have the room as it is for the managed moved students.” Mrs Carter asked.
Ken shrugged a little.
“No idea. But they’re here until the end of the year, have fun.”
With that he left and both of the teachers turned to look at you, and the pair of you looked at them.
“I don’t think they knew we were coming either…” you whispered.
“Me neither…”
The two teachers shared a look and turned to you both once more.
“Can you… do you two speak English?” Mrs Carter asked.
“Are they serious?”
You elbowed your friend a little.
“Yes, we speak English.” You said.
“Oh thank god for that, where are you two from?” Mr Evershed asked.
“Germany.” Matty replied, “we were supposed to be attending a school in London but the trust put us here.”
“Right, well I’ll go figure out where to put you two. Mr Evershed will stay here.”
Mrs Carter walked away and Mr Evershed shuffled a little unsure.
“You two speak really good English.”
“Thanks, so do you.” Matty said.
Mr Evershed chuckled a little.
“Sorry, I mean your pronunciation is really good, have you been learning English long?”
“Since primary school, yes.” You nodded.
He nodded back.
“Well, while we wait why not tell me a bit more about yourselves.” He smiled.
You two told him about the town you were from, your school, friends and things you did and he told you about more about this town and this school.
“Right.”
You all looked at Mrs Carter.
“I’ve got everything you need, timetables, map of the school and emergency contacts in case you need them. Let’s get you two to class.”
At first it seemed great, you were doing well in your classes, all aside from English, which you struggled with.
Matty had been moved to a school in London which had an empty place and now it was just you in Ackley.
Without Matty there to help translate things for you, it was getting harder and harder for you to keep up, and you soon started to fall behind.
Your grades began to slip, and you sat at the table of the house you were staying at with your head in your hands.
“Is everything alright love?”
“Julie I do not understand this.”
You held up the sheet.
“What does this mean?”
Your host mum laughed softly and walked over, sitting next to you.
“Let’s have a look.”
She read over the sheet of paper and looked at you.
“I’ll be honest I don’t even know. It’s been years since I did English and it wasn’t like this. Do you have any other homework you’re struggling with?”
“I struggle with it all. This is not like home.”
Julie sighed softly.
“How about you ask your teachers tomorrow? I can call up if you like?” She smiled.
“Yes please.”
She smiled and nodded her head.
Since you joined them halfway through summer she had started to pick up on some German, and understood what you said.
When you went into school the next day, you tried your best in your classes, but it was all the same.
Sitting in English, you sighed as Mr Evershed asked everyone to hand their homework as they left and you waited.
“(Y/N), perfect I wanted to talk to you.” He smiled.
“You do?”
“Yes, come have a seat.”
He sat down at one of the tables and you sat down as well.
“I hear you’re having a hard time with some of your work. I was asked by Mrs Oakes and Mrs Carter to talk to you about it.”
You handed him the blank bit of paper.
“I’m not understanding.” You said.
He smiled.
“Okay, well, let’s try to figure out where you got confused yeah?”
He talked through the homework, and you just started at him blankly.
“You still don’t understand do you?” He asked.
“What the fuck does it mean?!”
“Okay, I don’t know what you said but I feel like there was some sort of swear work in that sentence.”
You have him an apologetic smile.
“Sorry.”
He looked at you with a blank look now.
“Sorry.” You laughed.
“That’s alright, just try not to swear, whether it’s in English or German.” He chuckled.
He blinked and pulled out his phone.
“Have you tried translating it into German?”
“Many words do not.. how do you say… Uhm…”
You furrowed your brows a little bit.
“Sometimes they mean different.”
“Ah right, they translate different i understand. Okay, well, how about I give you some examples on the board, come over.”
He wrote down two examples on the board.
“So, let’s pick out our key words.”
He circled a few and carried on explaining it to you, and you nodded alone.
He turned around and smiled.
“Do you think you can do that?”
“I will try.”
He handed you the pen and you carefully worked through the example, doing the same thing.
“Perfect! That’s it, now try on those ones.”
You walked back to the table, and with some hard work and concentration you finally did it and you proudly handed him the paper.
“Done!”
“That’s great, thank you. If you want after school we can have one to one lessons, to help you with your work.”
“Yes please!”
You beamed at him and grabbed your bag.
Every day you went, and though your grades were still suffering they were getting better bit by bit.
Today English was the last lesson of the day, and Mr Evershed noticed that you seemed spaced out, and even though he called for you to pay attention a few times, you spaced out again.
Lesson ended, and you stayed in your seat.
Once the last student was gone, he walked over and sat in front of you.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
You glanced up.
“Nothing I am fine.”
Mr Evershed shook his head a little bit.
“No you’re not, come on. Tell me what’s going on.”
You sighed, placing your hand phone on the desk, and he looked at the photo on the screen.
It was a brightly lit winter festival.
“Oh wow, is this from Germany?”
“Yes, my town. We throw one yearly.”
Mr Evershed looked at you then back to the photo.
“You’re missing home aren’t you?”
“Yes.”
You looked at him.
“I am not used to being away from home for so long.”
“Well, tell me about it. What’s it like during this time of year?”
“You want to know?”
“Of course! Tell me about it.”
You beamed and quickly grabbed your phone to show him photos and videos.
You explained everything and when you got excited you would sometimes slip back into speaking German but quickly corrected yourself.
“Are you going home for the holidays?”
“Yes sir. Do you stay on holiday?” You asked.
“Yeah. My families here so we spend it together.”
You nodded your head.
“I take many picture for you, can I send them to you on teams?”
Mr Evershed smiled a little.
“I can’t see why not, and if you need help with your homework over the holidays let me know as well, okay?”
You nodded and left, and you left a few days early before holidays officially started so you could get to Germany on time.
You gave him daily updates on everything, sometimes asking for help with homework.
Then a week after the holidays started, he heard the sound of someone trying to call him on teams and he picked it up.
“(Y/N)? Is everything okay.”
He heard chatter of a few people in the background, and he watched you duck under someone’s arm as they tried to put something on your head.
“Mr Evershed! I show you something!”
You jogged away, laughing and shouting at your friends, and he smiled, sitting down in front of his laptop.
You ran up a hill, and you stood on a bench and flipped the camera.
Mr Evershed smiled as he looked at you showing him the festival.
“We have food and games. We skate on river over there.”
You showed him the frozen river.
“That sounds like fun (Y/N), is that your friends running up the hill?”
“Oh yes!”
You waved at them and they waved at the camera.
“Hello sir!” They chirped.
“Hello everyone.” He chuckled.
You ran back down the hill, and began showing him all the stands.
“That looks good, what’s that?”
“This? This is like a biscuit I suppose. I can bring you one?”
“I’m not allowed to accept gifts of students of students.”
“Well… I send it to post office then, then not gift. Just post, I will send my homework too.”
Mr Evershed laughed softly.
“Okay (Y/N), thank you.”
You spoke to the person behind the stall, and you kept showing him different things until you had showed him the whole festival.
“Oh, I have to go.”
“Alright, have fun and stay safe.”
“Bye!”
You hung up and Mr Evershed shook his head a little bit.
“Your exchange student?”
Mr Evershed looked up at his wife.
“Yeah. They wanted to show me their Christmas festival, it was nice.”
A few days later he went to the post office and just like you said, you sent him a letter, some things from the festival and your homework.
When you came back from Germany, you seemed a lot happier, and you were sitting in your extra English lesson and you looked at Mr Evershed.
“(Y/N), this is in german.”
“Huh?”
You took the paper from him.
“You should learn German.”
“I’m an English teacher.”
“At least you’d be able to read this.”
He rolled his eyes and handed you a pen.
“Well unfortunately it has to be in english.”
You pouted a little and began to correct your work, and he smiled at you

Homesick
Chapter five
Paring: Lee Everett x oc
Warnings: canon events
I want you for worse or for better, I will wait for ever and ever
***
Pip watched as Clem kicked a soccer ball around with Duck, a gentle smile on her face as the two kicked it back and forth.
Duck began kicking it running away with it and not letting Clem catch the ball. Clem had a frown on her face "hey! You're not playing fair!" She pouted.
"It's not my fault you don't know how to play soccer right!" Duck defended himself now picking up the ball. Clem glared "you don't know how to teach right!"
Katjaa sighed and decided to try and stop them from fighting "Ducky! What did we say about not playing fair?" She questioned the boy.
Duck groaned "whatever! I don't even want to play anymore!" He grumbled dropping the ball walking back over to Katjaa.
Pip sighed "lil lady, come here, why don't we color for a bit?" She asked the little girl who kept her pout as she nodded and walked over to her.
Soon Lilly stood up from her chair on top of the RV pointing a gun at the woods. A whistle escaped her lips causing everyone to get down.
Just then Lee's voice boomed through "get the gates open! We've got wounded!" He shouted.
Lilly lowered her gun "shit. What the hell are they doing?!" She growled.
Everyone ran over "Lee are you okay?" Clem asked. Lee gave her a curt nod and Katjaa furrowed her brows "get him into the truck, I'll see what I can do"
Kenny looked at her "Kat, can you fix him?" He asked quickly. Katjaa shook her head "Jesus Ken! I don't know!"
Lilly sort of cut her off "Lee! Lee!" She shouted aggressively. Lee looked at her and she spoke up again "what the hell?! You can't just be bringing new people here! What are you thinking?!" She continued.
"Hey! You wanna calm down for a fuckin minute?" Kenny snapped.
Larry spoke up "what's your-" Lilly cut him off "no! I don't! I want to know why you thought bringing more mouths to feed was a good idea?!"
"I thought we could save his life! I'm the one who took his leg, that makes me responsible" Lee replied.
Larry glared "well that was a stupid thing to do" he hissed. Lilly shook her head "we are NOT responsible for every struggling survivor we come across! WE have to focus on OUR group! Right here. Right NOW!" She finished.
Carley spoke up "well hang on! We haven't even talked to these people yet! Maybe they CAN be helpful" she suggested.
"Come on, Lilly. These are people? People trying to survive just like us. We've got to stick together to survive!" Mark tried to reason with her.
Lilly shook her head "the only reason you're here is because you had food. Enough for ALL of us. But that food is almost gone, we've maybe a week's worth left and I don't suppose you guys are carrying any groceries are you?!"
"No..." the new teenager, Ben, mumbled out looking at the floor. Mark shook his head "fine. You guys fight it out, then. Welcome to the family, kid" he scoffed walking away from everyone.
Clem looked up at Ben "come over here and see what I drew" she said grabbing onto his sleeve. Ben frowned "what? No, I-" he started and Clem grabbed onto his pinky finger "just come on, okay?..."
Kenny glared at Lilly "you know, you like to think you are the leader of this little group, but we can make our own goddamn decisions! This isn't your own personal dictatorship!"
"Oh come on. You're being dramatic! Everything always turns into a power struggle between you two. I'm not gonna be a part of that!" Carley shouted before walking away.
Leaving Pip, Kenny, Lilly and Lee, Larry standing nearby. Lilly glared back at Kenny "hey, I didn't ask to lead this group! Everyone was happy to have me distributing the food when there was enough to go around! Now that it's running out suddenly I'm a goddamn nazi!"
"Kenny's right" Pip said looking at Lilly and Lee nodded.
(?) they all noticed Pip and Lee side with Kenny.
"Yeah, you're in charge of the food, and the schedules but you're NOT in charge of people's lives" Lee said adding onto Pip's words.
Lilly put a hand on her hip "really?!"
"You weren't there. Lee made a choice. End of story" Kenny said before walking away. Pip sighed "I'm gonna go check up on Clem" she announced to the two leaving Lee and Lilly to talk.
(?) only five food items for eleven hungry people.
Pip looked at Clem "whatcha drawing, lil lady?" The woman asked looking down at the piece of paper on the floor.
"A tiger!" The little girl cheered happily holding it up. Pip chuckled "you're quite the artist! My, I forgot to ask earlier, where's your hat?"
Clem patted her own head "I set it down somewhere, but now it's gone, can you help me find it?" She asked. Pip nodded "I'll tell you if I find it"
Lee walked over "how's it going you two?" Lee asked. Pip smiled "we're okay, Lee"
Lee looked at Clem's head "where's your hat?" He asked. Clem frowned "Pip asked the same thing, I don't know...can you help me and her find it?" She asked.
Lee nodded "sure. When did you loose?" He asked. Clem thought "I had it a couple days ago..." she said. Lee nodded "I promise if we find it, we'll let you know" he said bringing Pip into his words.
"Thank you..." Clem mumbled still sad about loosing her hat.
"You two need to eat something" Lee said, he took out two apple half's handing them to Pip and Clem. Clem gasped "I love apples. Thank you"
Pip nodded "we appreciate it...are there more?"
"No. Those are the last ones" Lee replied. Clem looked down "oh uhm..." she mumbled. Lee smiled "enjoy. You two deserve it" he said to the two.
(?) Lee took care of Clementine.
(?) Lee chose to feed Pip.
Pip and Clem began eating their food, both eating very small bites. Nibbling if you will. Moments passed and a loud scream from Katjaa erupted through the motor inn.
A gunshot runs through and there stood Carley "you okay?..." she asked and Lee weakly nodded. Pip ran over just as Ben was defending himself.
"What!? Wait...you all don't know?" Ben asked looking at the group. Kenny glared "what the hell are you talking about?"
Ben frowned "it's not the bite that does it! You come back no matter how you die. If you don't destroy the brain, that's just what happens. It's going to happen ALL of us" he explained.
"We're all infected? Everyone?" Lee asked in a light scared tone. Ben shrugged "I-I guess so. I don't know...all I know is that I've seen people turn who I KNOW were never bitten"
"When I first saw it happen, we were all hiding out in a gym and everybody thought we were finally safe. But one of the girls, Jenny Pitcher I think. I guess she couldn't take it. She took some pills. A lot of them. Someone went into the girls' room the next morning and...God..." Ben finished.
"BACK OFF!" Carley's voice boomed through the inn. Everyone turned seeing two men "woah, lady, relax! Me and my brother, we...we just want to know if y'all can help us out"
"I said back off!" Carley shouted again and Pip set a hand on her shoulder "Carley..." she said trying to get her sister to calm down.
"Are you armed?" Pip called out to the two and the shorter one spoke up "yeah...for protection...dead could be anywhere"
The taller one looked at her "but, uh, I think you've got the upper hand here" he smiled. Carley glared "why do you need gas?"
The short one spoke again "our place is protected by an electric fence. Generators provide the electricity..." he explained. The tall one nodded "our generators run on gas. Look, we own a dairy farm a few miles up the road. If y'all be willing to lower your guns, we can talk about some kind of trade" he suggested.
"How are y'all doing on food? We got plenty at the dairy" the short one said. Lilly looked at Lee "Lee, why don't you and Mark check the place out, see if it's legit"
"I'm going with you. I got your back if anything seems fishy" Carley spoke up smiling at her sister. The tall one looked at them "so what are y'all thinking?" He asked.
"You've got a deal. We'll bring SOME gas to your dairy. In exchange, you give us some food to bring back. We'll see how it goes from there" Lee replied.
(?) Lee decided everyone should go.
The tall one nodded "sounds fair. A couple of gallons should power one of our generators for a while"
***
Pip's eyes widened lightly seeing Marks shoulder "what the fuck happened?" She asked. Clem looked up at her "swear" she lightly tugged on her sleeve. Pip looked down at the little girl "sorry" she whispered quickly.
Mark groaned "yeah. I'm fine. I should just...pull it out..." he said. Another new lady, Brenda, shook her head "oh no, honey, c'mon, Brenda's got you. C'mon inside now, we'll have you all sorted out"
Brenda, Mark and Katjaa made their way inside and Larry looked at Lee. "What kind of shit is this?" He said angrily.
"We ran into some people on the way up here...bandits I guess. I think it was them that attacked us" Lee explained to him.
The tall one, Andy, spoke "they gave us a bunch of problems in the beginning, killed a bunch of our farmhands. We were able to get 'em to stop by makin' a deal" he explained.
Kenny glared "you KNEW about these people" he asked his tone laced with anger. The short one, Danny, looked at him "food for protection. Not like we had much of a choice, but they did stop hasslin' us"
Larry growled "god dammit! Carley said this place was locked up tight!!" He grumbled. Lee sighed "maybe it isn't as safe here as we thought" he said.
"We're story! We've never had them screw with us like this! Not since we started givin' 'em food! Listen, we may have had an agreement with those people, but we will NOT stand for this shit!" Andy stated. Danny glared at the floor "ain't no way we're letting those sons o' bitches get away with this!"
Kenny glared again "you know where these assholes are?" He asked. Danny shrugged "they're hard to pin down but I think I know where at least ONE of their camps are. When you're ready to go scope out that bandit camp, come find us" he said.
The two walked away "this is just...wild" Pip said watching them, Pip walked over to Lee "you're okay though, right? No bites, any wounds?" She tilted her head.
Lee chuckled at her concern "unless you count scraping your knee as a wound, I'm okay" he said.
***
A/n: it’s been 15 days I need to be more consistent💀, I need to write Carley and Pip interacting more like...they're sisters...idk...hope you enjoyed!

hey y'all,
I finally saw the Barbie movie today (so long overdue ik everyone's been screaming at me to see it) and I have some thoughts/feelings regarding this movie so please excuse me while I drop them all here
the people who have been hounding me to see it kept telling me they found it super emotional and came out sobbing (which of course no judgment to them this movie is super important and I understand why it got them emotional) but that didn't happen with me...
obviously, I was emotional when the Ken's took over Barbieland and introduced the patriarchy and basically took control in the worst possible way, and how Barbie realised how the women of the real world get treated compared to Ken feeling like he had all the power.
but most people said they got emotional over the mother/daughter bond shown in the movie and I honestly hated that it was one of the parts I couldn't relate to
I'm lucky to have a caring mother in my life don't get me wrong but idk both of my parents are very emotionally distant with me. my parents sent me off to boarding school when I was 8 years old and I didn't go home other than holidays and occasional weekends so I feel like I missed out on a lot and that's why the distance is there (ten years of boarding school is a lot, especially when you add in living abroad a couple of those years so I couldn't always go home on holidays either). and then straight after school I went to uni for three years. I would see all these people online getting homesick and missing their parents when they started uni but that just... wasn't me. I'd miss my dog more than anything and want to be at home for him.
idk maybe I'm being weird and dramatic but this has genuinely been bothering me since I left the cinema so I had to put my thoughts somewhere. I just feel like I'm the only person who didn't have any sort of reaction to that plotline/moments

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Speedy Acquaye, Hirohiko Araki, the 1969 debut of Blind Faith, Beryl Booker, Gwendolyn Brooks, Royce Campbell (Funk Brothers), THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW 1969 TV debut, Georgiana Cavendish, the great Johnny Clegg, Silas Roy Crain (Soul Stirrers), George Ezra, Tal Farlow, William Forsythe, Gordon Gano, Paul Gauguin, Nikki Giovanni, Juan Luis Guerra, Damien Hirst, Nihad Hrustanbegović, Tommy James & The Shondells 1969 “Crystal Blue Persuason” single, Mickey Jones (Man), Tom Jones (great to have met you), Paddy McAloon (Prefab Sprout), Dave Navarro, Liam Neeson, Ken Osmond, Prince, Jack Ryland (3 Dog Night), George Szell, Jessica Tandy, Karl Urban, Clarence White, and the legendary, consummate entertainer, comedian, singer, and actor, Dean Martin. In the late 1940s he broke out in a hugely successful comedy duo with Jerry Lewis, then was seared into public conciousness with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. in The Rat Pack. My respect for Dino grew around his musical choices and catalogue of material. I do several covers of his songs (especially in my care home set) and my original song “Somebody Loves You (Like Dino Said)” has a direct refraction on Dean’s “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You.” In 1955 he had a #1 hit with the folk-doo wop song “Memories Are Made of This.” It became a theme for a book written by his daughter Deana, a singer in her own right whose career intersected with The Monkees and Davy Jones (they also dated back in the day), and there was a phase where she’d sit in on our gigs + she sang with us at Davy’s 2012 New York memorial and a Monkees Convention in 2013. Davy was also close friends with Dino Martin (of Dino Desi & Billy), and when they weren’t driving old army tanks around in the desert, they played pool with Dean at Dean’s home. Davy was quite a comedy quipster, and he often said, “It’s OK to steal my jokes. I just stole them from someone else.” One of his “someone else” sources was Dean Martin.
“Memories Are Made of This” was written by Richard Dehr, Terry Gilkyson, and Frank Miller—as The Easy Riders, they provided the vocal harmonies on Dean’s version. After the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, the song was adapted into the "Honvágy-dal" ('The Song of Homesickness”) and used as an unofficial anthem for refugees scattered around the world. Recorded by Ida Boros, it became a cultural phenomenon and a sign of protest against the communist government. The standard English version has been covered countless times (notably by Little Richard, Johnny Cash, and Cliff Richard & The Shadows), and here’s how I do it in my assisted living home set. Meanwhile, HB Dino—thank you for the hours of humor and song you left us.
