“The romance isn’t working.”
You groan when your editor pushes your manuscript for this week’s chapter towards you. You didn’t need any more bumps in the road, not when you were already running behind on deadlines, with the publishing company breathing down your neck to get the next volume out.
“The romance is fine, Akaashi” you mumble, flicking through the pages of the manuscript to skim through his notes.
“If it was fine, I wouldn’t be here, he replies dryly.
Akaashi was as blunt as ever. Most of the time you appreciated his honesty, he was the reason for such success with your manga after all, but sometimes he managed to get on your nerves.
“It’s an unnecessary subplot,” he continues, flipping through a couple of pages to show you a few of the panels you had drawn, “there’s just no plausible progression between the two, no chemistry.”
You glare at him. He was really starting to get on your nerves. Akaashi rolls his eyes when he sees your glare, reaching out to flick your forehead.
“You’re already behind on the scheduled publishing date,” he reminds you, crossing his arms over his chest, “and I get the short end of the stick because I’m your editor.”
“The higher-ups love you,” you retort.
You stare pointedly at the small stash of awards that were tucked onto a shelf in his office, the small trophies and plaques a clear display of the company’s commendation for his work.
“Not enough to let me work in the literature department,” he mutters bitterly.
“I’m right here!” you protest, an exasperated expression spreading across your face.
“Yeah, yeah,” Akaashi murmurs.
He taps your manuscript a few more times before giving you a stern look.
“Get me the revised version by tonight, otherwise you’ll miss out on this week’s issue.”
You curse him under your breath, giving him one final glare as you gather the pages of your manuscript into your hands. You had come into his office thinking he’d been fine with the story, but now you had somehow ended up with more work than before, and an even tighter deadline.
A few hours later, you end up finding yourself outside Akaashi’s apartment. Guilt had won out in the end, and you figured that it wasn’t fair to let him take the blame for your tardiness. Revised manuscript clutched against your chest, you ring his doorbell.
You can feel your throat dry when he opens up the door. His hair is damp, towel slung around the back of his neck. He’s wearing an old volleyball shirt with sweatpants, and you don’t think you’ll ever get used to him looking so domestic.
Akaashi stares at you blankly, clearly not expecting you. Usually you would’ve just emailed the revised manuscript over to him, not show up outside his door.
“I felt guilty,” you blurt out, cheeks flushing at the awkwardness in the air, “and- and I ordered gyoza so it should be here in a few minutes.”
“Right,” he says after a moment, “you didn’t have to.”
You stare at each other for a moment longer until he sighs, opening the door wider to let you in.
“You’re just as bad as Bokuto,” he informs you.
The mention of the pro-volleyball player makes a smile spread across your face. You had met Akaashi’s volleyball friends a few times when they had enlisted your help in throwing Akaashi a surprise birthday party - which had maybe ended up in a disaster - as well as when you had wound up to a few of their games.
“He’s a sweet guy,” you reply, handing him your manuscript.
Akaashi only hums in response, walking over to his desk. He hangs his towel on the back of his chair before sitting down. You watch as he slips his glasses on, examining the pages of your now edited work.
“I thought you’d try and fight me about the romance,” he murmurs, his pen making a few adjustments here and there.
“Figured it wasn’t worth it,” you sigh, slumping on the couch in his living room, “you were right, as always.”
He peers over at you, his eyes narrowing as he watches the sulky look on your face. Despite your random bouts of laziness, even Akaashi had to agree that you were a good mangaka whose popularity had built up a loyal reader base.
“Look,” Akaashi says, setting his pen down, “if you’re that hung up about cutting those scenes, start drafting it now.”
Your gaze shoots up to meet his eyes.
“Seriously?” you ask, eyeing him suspiciously.
Akaashi was dedicated, sure, but he wasn’t exactly one to take on extra work. Sometimes  you felt as though he would’ve been right at home in the literature department, editing novels instead of volumes of manga. It was like he worked with you out of obligation, not enjoyment, despite the friendship you had built up over the years.
“Yeah,” he says, pushing his glasses up a bit further to sit better on the slope of his nose, “I’m serious.”
You don’t get to dwell any longer on your editor’s change in mind, the sound of the doorbell piercing through your conversation. Akaashi waves you away when you move towards the door, grabbing the delivered containers of gyoza himself.
He sits down beside you on the couch, handing you one container whilst he takes the other. For some reason, you’re feeling more on edge than usual. The brush of his arm against yours has heat rising to your cheeks, body growing taut with the way your stomach is swirling with nervousness.
It was no secret that Akaashi was one of the most handsome men in the office, and you had maybe developed a tiny crush on the man, which was now inflating into something that was not so tiny, and much, much harder to control the more time you spent with him.
“You okay?” Akaashi asks, peering over you.
You don’t trust yourself enough to reply which is why you stuff a gyoza into your mouth and nod rapidly.
Silence lapses over you both as you eat, but you can feel his eyes boring into the side of your head. You pretend not to notice, trying to engross yourself in the taste of the gyoza and the tang of soy sauce.
Akaashi slouches slightly, his body relaxing as time passes. You can see it in the way his shoulders drop, his thighs spreading as he gets more comfortable.
“Instead of adding romance as a subplot, why don’t you make it into another story altogether?”
You blink over at him, surprised.
“I don’t have time to write another manga,” you say, shaking your head, “I’d have to find another publisher if I wanted to write something that was purely romance.”
“Shonen manga in the romance genre exist,” he replies, running his hand through his hair, “or you could just self-publish.”
You’d been hoping to avoid the topic of self-publishing. Sure, you knew of it, participated in it even. It’d been used as a creative outlet, to get out some ideas that you couldn’t work on when your success as a mangaka had grown. Besides, it wasn’t like you could tell Akaashi that you had drawn up stories that were, well, inappropriate.
“But that would be too much work,” you sigh, trying to stop his train of thought.
Akaashi stares at you thoughtfully. The more you spend time with him, the more you begin to regret your choice to come here. Emailing the manuscript to him would’ve been the smarter choice, but you just had to feel sorry for the guy.
“I did read one the other day that had a similar art style to yours.”
Fuck, fuck, fuck. You can feel your composure slipping. There was no way he could know that you self-published stories that were practically panel after panel of porn. Maybe he enjoyed it? One thought leads to another and you find yourself imagining Akaashi with his hand wrapped around his cock, his head tipped back as he strokes himself.
“What was it about?” you manage to grit out, trying to see through the haze of your indecent thoughts.
“About a couple,” he says simply, “they ended up fucking.”
You can feel the hope swirling in your mind fade. Akaashi definitely knew.
“Didn’t know you read that sort of thing.”
“I’m a man, aren’t I? Sometimes porn just doesn’t cut it. The story was pretty great too.”
He thought the story was great? You can’t help yourself from perking up, the compliment making you feel warm.
“I just find it so strange,” he murmurs, leaning closer to you.
You swallow harshly, mustering up a smile with your trembling lips, “why’s that?”
“The author’s note,” Akaashi says, “the little bunny avatar was the same as yours.”
So, you had messed up. You spy the front door from the corner of your eyes. If you walked, you’d get there in about ten steps, but if you ran, you’d get there in about three - maybe two - strides. Sure, you wouldn’t ever be able to face Akaashi again, but you think you’d be fine with it. Report filed to the higher ups stating creative differences and you’d be able to find a new editor, no problem.
“It’s all probably just a coincidence,” you say nonchalantly, “plenty of people like bunnies.”
“Some of the dialogue was similar to yours, distinct writing and all that.”
You grit your teeth. The man didn’t know when to let go.
“Like I said, coincidence.”
“Right,” he says, nodding along, “a coincidence. Was it also a coincidence that the couple that had sex was a mangaka and her editor?”
You scramble to your feet when he says that. Letting out an awkward laugh, your cheeks heated with embarrassment, you decide that this is the best time to take your leave.
“Have- have a good night!” you say, voice pitching.
Determination has Akaashi’s eyes gleaming and now you’re bolting, feet nearly tripping over each other as you dart towards his apartment door. It seems as though fate isn’t in your favor tonight, Akaashi’s hand curling around your wrist as he catches onto you before you can open the door. You squeak when he slams his hand against the wall, right next to your head as he pushes you up against the door.
“Classic scene,” he murmurs, his eyes narrowing as he takes in your meek expression, “you always use it.”
“Fuck off, Akaashi!” you snap, pushing at his chest.
It’s a struggle, but you reach back behind you, hand grabbing blindly for the door handle. He doesn’t let you reach it, catching your wrist and pinning it against the door.
“You sure?” Akaashi asks, his eyes darkened, “or maybe you want me to fuck you.”
Your breath catches in your throat, mouth opening before closing again. There’s nothing left in you, no retorts, no words to get yourself out of this situation. He lets out a sigh when he feels your body relax, his hand on your wrist loosening as he lets go. You stare up at him, biting your lip nervously.
“You should’ve said something,” he says quietly, adjusting his glasses.
“And embarrass myself?” you mutter, picking at the wool of your sweater.
Akaashi doesn’t say anything, his hand smoothing up your hip and settling on your waist. Your eyes widen, arousal shooting through your body as he presses himself closer, his other hand finding your waist. Akaashi squeezes gently and you bite back a whine, eyes drooping slightly as he just squeezes and pets at your sides.
“It was good,” he says hoarsely, “the story, the details, the sex… came to it a couple of times.”
“You- you liked it?” you whisper, voice airy.
“Yeah,” he whispers back, his eyes meeting yours, “liked it… like you.”
Your eyes flutter shut when he kisses your cheek, your heart thudding in your chest. You never dreamt it’d come down to this, but you find yourself grateful for Akaashi’s observational nature.
He takes his glasses off, placing them into his pocket. Akaashi’s lips drag across your cheek, pressing soft kisses against your skin. He kisses the corner of your mouth, lips brushing against yours gently.
“Kiss me, Akaashi” you whisper, arms wrapping around his neck.
“Yeah,” Akaashi says softly, “yeah, I’ll kiss you, baby.”
A contented sigh escapes you as he slots his lips over yours, kissing you gently. The heat between you begins to grow, his hands slipping under your sweater to feel your bare skin. You gasp into his mouth, his hands surprisingly warm.
Akaashi smiles against your lips, his hand running up your back as his kisses turn hungrier, his tongue tracing the seam of your lips. You let him lick into your mouth, tugging at his hair desperately. Rocking up onto the tips of your toes, you deepen the kiss, pulling him impossibly closer.
He wraps his arms around your waist, groaning when your nails scratch his scalp fleetingly. You bite your kiss-swollen lip as he drags his lips down your neck, landing heated kisses to your skin.
Akaashi kisses the pulse of your throat, his lips finding their way back to yours. Soft pants fill the air, his smile hazy as he peers down at you. You smile back, head tilting to the side to let him kiss your cheek again.
“You’re such a dork,” he whispers, his eyes twinkling.
“Shut up,” you whine, pushing at his chest.
He grins, his hands grasping yours. Akaashi pulls you away from the door, his arms wrapping around the backs of your thighs as he picks you up. You laugh, legs wrapping around his waist, lips pressing against his as he carries you to his bed.
Akaashi lays you down on his bed and you watch with half-lidded eyes as he pulls his shirt off. He might not have played as competitively like he did in highschool, but you had been there when he had played with his friends. It’d been entrancing to watch the way he had set the ball for his friends, the ball curving through the air cleanly for the spiker to hit.
“‘s not fair how good you look,” you grumble, pouting.
He rolls his eyes, crawling onto the bed, his body hovering over yours.
“You look pretty good yourself,” Akaashi says, his fingers playing with the hem of your sweater.
You lift your arms for him, letting him pull it off of you. His gaze fixes on the swell of your breasts and you flush, looking away.
“You’re shy now?” He murmurs, a soft laugh escaping him as he kisses your jaw.
“You’re such a jerk,” you huff out.
Akaashi smiles and you don’t think you’ll ever be able to be truly angry with him. He’s patient more than anything, caring and always honest. You’ve never met a man like him, never met someone who could quell your worries the way he could. It makes you want to never let go.
His body settles between your thighs, his nimble fingers pulling your bra free. Your nipples pebble in the cold air and Akaashi leans forward, his hot, wet mouth enveloping a hard bud into his mouth.
You whine brokenly, back arching slightly as he sucks your nipple, tongue swirling around the bud. He groans as you run your fingers through his hair, his mouth suctioning around your breast for a few moments before he pulls off with a pop.
His mouth finds your other breast, kissing the side of it, mouthing at your skin. You can feel his tongue caress the underside of it, laving across your breast before he bites gently at your flesh, his half-lidded eyes meeting yours.
“You’re a fuckin’ tease,” he whispers against your breast.
You shake your head, mewling when his hand slides up, his fingers pitching at your spit-coated nipples. He rests his head between your breasts, watching you contentedly as you writhe under the onslaught of his touches.
“A- Akaashi,” you whimper, hips bucking, “want- want more, please.”
“So polite, baby” he coos, his hands groping at your breasts.
He pulls away from you and you whine, lifting your hips for him when he peels your pants off. There’s a moment of silence and you’re anticipating the feel of his mouth on your body, only for him to let out a low laugh.
“Bunnies til the end, huh?” Akaashi asks, his fingers playing with the waistband of your panties.
Your brows furrow, not quite sure what he’s talking about until you prop yourself on your elbows and see that you’re wearing a pair of bunny-patterned panties.
“Oh, fuck off,” you groan, slumping back down onto the bed and slinging your arm over your eyes.
“They’re cute,” he smiles, prying your arm away from your face, “just like you, baby.”
Akaashi grasps one of your legs, bringing it to his mouth as he runs his hand along the length of it, kissing the sole of your foot and then your ankle. A soft hum leaves you, watching as he kisses up your leg, his kisses feather-light.
You run your fingers through his hair as he kisses the little bow on your panties, his nose pressing between your clothed folds to breathe you in.
“Pussy’s soaked through,” Akaashi murmurs, pulling back to look at your dampened panties.
“‘s your fault,” you slur, trying to push his face back to where you want it.
“All my fault,” he agrees, his tongue licking up over your panties, “guess I’ll have to take care of you then.”
You nod, trying to stop the little twitches that shoot through your body. Akaashi lets his mouth latch onto you, trying to suck the slick that’s soaked through the fabric of your panties.
“A- ah!” you pant, fingers fisting his hair as he squeezes your hips, his face nuzzling deeper between your thighs.
Akaashi’s lithe fingers pull at your panties, dragging them down your thighs. You don’t miss the way he tucks them into his pocket.
“Always so pretty, baby” he whispers, his thumbs pulling apart your folds to expose your pussy.
He moans when he sees the translucent strings of arousal that cling to your folds, his tongue darting out to lick up the little strings. You whimper when he kisses your clit gently, watching as he rubs the pad of his thumb against your swollen clit. Thighs twitching, you shift, trying to tilt your hips a little higher so you can feel his mouth on you.
“Ask for it,” Akaashi says, his cheek pressing against your thigh as he stares up at you.
“‘m not- ‘m not asking for it,” you retort, glaring at him.
“Bet it’d feel good,” he whispers, his tongue lolling out of his mouth.
You whine when he just keeps his tongue there, saliva dripping from the tip of it and onto your pussy. He makes an obscene noise, gathering some more saliva, spitting on your cunt.
“All you gotta do is ask,” he coaxes, his arms wrapping around your thighs, “clit looks so achy… makes me wanna kiss it better.”
“P- please,” you whisper, your voice barely audible.
“Didn’t quite catch that,” Akaashi smiles up at you, his eyes twinkling.
You’ll have to get him back for his teasing later, but right now you can’t wait.
“Please lick my pussy!”
You squeal when he latches his mouth onto you again, his tongue lapping over your wet pussy. He groans and you tug at his hair, thighs squeezing around his head as he laves his tongue over you greedily, letting his tongue dip into your hole before he sucks your clit into his mouth.
Legs kicking out, you let out a strangled noise as he flicks his tongue over your clit. Akaashi lands the filthiest kisses to your clit, alternating between sucking and little pecks, while he’s sunk two fingers inside of you. They curl up inside of you, grazing your sensitive spot perfectly. He fucks his fingers in and out of you, your wanton noises filling his bedroom.
Akaashi presses his face deeper, his fingers crooking. The feeling of his mouth in tandem with his fingers has you whimpering and whining, airy noises spilling from your lips at his ministrations. You might not ever be able to go without him ever again.
He holds you in place as you thrash, the overwhelming feeling inside of you building and building. Akaashi slips his fingers out of you in favor of devouring your cunt again, licking through your velvety folds, his tongue swirling before he presses it inside of you.
“Taste so fuckin’ good,” he growls.
You blink down at him dazedly. There’s a light flush covering his cheeks, his mouth glistening with your wetness. He opens his mouth to say something else but you ignore him, pushing his head so that his lips are flush against your cunt. Akaashi lets out a muffled laugh against your pussy, his tongue licking over you again.
Hand squeezing at your breast, you bite your lip, losing yourself in the caress of his tongue. He laps over you, again and again, pressing sloppy kisses to your clit.
“Gonna come,” you whisper, feeling the softness of his hair under your palm, “gonna come, ‘kaashi.”
He tilts your hips a little more, rising up onto his knees with your legs slung over his shoulders. You squeal again when he shakes his head, tongue dragging from side to side before he plunges it inside of you, his thumb pressing against your clit at the same time.
Your thighs squeeze tightly around his head as you come, loosening after a while when twitches rack through your body. Akaashi squeezes your thighs, lets your legs slip from his shoulders as he kisses your trembling thighs.
“Good girl,” he whispers.
Akaashi kisses your cheek and wipes the stray curls of your hair away from your face. A soft sheen of sweat covers your body and he hums, smoothing his thumbs over the underside of your breasts.
He lays down beside you and you curl up beside him, eyes catching on the bulge in his sweatpants.
“Need some help?” you murmur, fingers dragging down his chest.
“If you don’t mind,” he sighs, his arm wrapping around your waist to hold you close to him.
You smile, kissing his jaw gently as your hand slides past his navel, disappearing into his sweatpants. The weight of his cock is heavy and hot and Akaashi moans softly when your hand curls around his length.
“Ask for it, ‘kaashi,” you whisper, voice lilting.
“You’re such a brat,” he mutters.
“Use your manners, Keiji.”
His eyes widen when you use his name and you grin, landing a soft kiss to his cheek as your breasts squish up against his bicep. You squeeze around his cock and he lets out a soft whine, his hips bucking.
“Fuck- fuck hah-,” Akaashi grits out, “stroke my cock, baby, hm? Please?”
You hum softly, beginning to move your hand. His thick cock twitches as you stroke him, your wrist rotating.
He pants softly, his head turning to meet yours. You smile, running your fingers through his hair, brushing the soft strands out of his eyes. Affection bursts inside of you, heart fluttering as the flush on his cheeks deepens.
His brows have drawn together and you smooth your thumb over them, peppering soft kisses over his face, leg slinging over his as you pull down his sweatpants to free his cock completely. Akaashi’s cock has filled out, pre-cum smearing across his abdomen. You caress the head of it, giggling when he lets out a broken moan as you rub your thumb against the tip.
“You look so handsome,” you say, stroking his cock a little faster.
Akaashi smiles and you dip your head, kissing him. He groans, his hips chasing after the feeling of your hand around him as you kiss. Your hand tightens a little, squeezing at the tip of his cock. Pre-cum wets your hand, soft gasps escaping Akaashi as you let your tongue slip into his mouth.
“Keiji,” you whisper, lips brushing over his, “Keiji, will you fuck me?”
You squeak in surprise when he manages to grab onto your waist, lifting you up and placing you on his lap. His cock is snug between your folds and you whine, dragging your hips along the length of it, biting your lip as more pre-cum leaks from him.
“Sit on my cock, baby” he whispers, smoothing his hands up your thighs.
You nod, shifting a little so that you’re up on your knees. Akaashi watches as you grip the base of his cock, moaning when you rub his cock against your pussy, letting it catch on your clit. Akaashi’s head tips back as you sink down, whimpery, little noises leaving you as your pussy swallows up his cock.
It’s so thick inside of you, fitting so snugly that you clench around him. Akaashi wraps an arm around your waist, bringing your front flush against him. He lets you tuck your face into the crook of his neck, his arms tightening around your waist. You can feel him move, his feet flat against the bed as he bends his knees.
“K- Keiji!” you wail when he begins to fuck up into you.
Akaashi grunts, holding you against him as he moves his hips, rutting up into you. His hands grope at your ass, gripping your ass tightly as he moves a little more forcefully. You bury your face deeper into the crook of his neck, pressing sloppy kisses against his skin as you smooth your hand over his hair.
“Is this- fuck,” Akaashi grits out, “is this what you imagined when you drew up those panels?”
You nod, too far gone to cling onto the remnants of your stubbornness.
“Yeah?” he whispers, “imagined me fucking up into you, huh?”
“Y- yes!” you cry out, body squirming when he lands a heavy spank to your ass.
“Good fuckin’ girl,” he growls.
A soft mewl leaves you at the praise, your hips swaying back lazily to meet his thrusts. The sound of his hips slapping into your ass echoes through his room, your wetness leaking around his cock and coating his balls.
Your body rocks against his, your hand gripping at the sheets beside his head when he adjusts his grip on you, planting his feet a bit firmer against his mattress to thrust into you harder. You gasp at the sensation, sinking your teeth into his shoulder when his cock hits deep inside of you.
Akaashi hisses at the feeling of your teeth, spanking your ass again before you clench around him with a scream, body shuddering on top of his as you come.
“Baby, baby, you gotta let go,” he rasps.
You shake your head stubbornly, pushing your hips down so that it swallows his cock all the way to the base.
“Inside, Keiji.”
He groans, his hands kneading at your hips roughly. You can feel the twitch of his cock, a satisfied coo leaving your lips when he comes, spurts of his hot cum filling you up. Akaashi’s hips stutter, thrusting into you unevenly as his cock jerks, more cum flooding your pussy.
You both pant, chests heaving. Akaashi rubs his hand along your back and you emerge from the crook of his neck, a drunken smile on your face.
He laughs hoarsely at your expression, cupping your cheek to guide you into another kiss while his cock softens inside of you. It’s a little uncomfortable, but you don’t mind, losing yourself in the heat of his body as cum leaks from your pussy.
“How long have you known?” you ask, tracing the slope of his nose.
“About a month,” he murmurs.
“A month?” you scoff, hitting his chest, “and you didn’t say anything?”
Akaashi grins, grabbing your hand and bringing it up to his lips to kiss across your knuckles.
“That would ruin the fun.”
You roll your eyes, prodding your fingers into his chest, “it was hardly fun, Keiji.”
“But you got what you wanted, didn’t you?” he whispers.
You laugh when he flips you onto your back, moaning softly when you feel his cock beginning to harden again inside of you.
“Put- put your glasses on,” you whisper, head tipping back as he rolls his hips into you.
Akaashi reaches over to dig his glasses out from the pocket of his discarded sweatpants, pushing them up to sit comfortably on his nose.
You clench around him at the sight, biting your lip as you give him a pleased smile.
“Knew you had a thing for ‘em.”
He grabs at your legs, moving them so that they’re pressed against his chest, your ankles resting on his shoulders.
“Use this as inspiration, baby,” Akaashi smirks, “I’ll even edit it for you.”

Keiji is absolutely nothing if not an attentive, knowing husband.
He’s good, he’s good at the whole marriage thing, knowing what makes you tic and what makes you purr, your anniversaries and outings and just being an absolute maniac when it comes to knowing all about you.
So imagine your complete, your total, your absolute horrific discovery to find out that today, he’s not home.
There’s no flowers, no note, no chaotic breakfast that Mei insisted on making you with Keiji- she claims today is her favorite holiday- and there’s nothing.
Not one of those things, on this birthday of yours.
To be honest, you don’t really mind, he’s one for… however many years you’ve known him, he was bound to forget it at some point (you certainly know you’ve had a few close calls), it just feels strange to have a birthday just with you and not your loving husband or eager daughter.
You stretch, yawn and slowly get out of bed, making your way to the kitchen to prepare for your day off, eager to spend some time alone and not have to worry about anything until you pick up your four year old.
Who is just as surprised as you at Keiji’s forgetting. Who takes a vendetta against Keiji for forgetting.
“You mean daddy didn’t take care of you today?” She says sadly. “That’s not nice of him…”
You giggle, “it’s okay, it’s just one day, yeah?”
“But!” She whines. “I made you a card! ‘Nd we should have a cake! And a birffday party!”
You shrug as you continue to strap her in, “well, sometimes, things don’t exactly pan out like we’d expect them to. And that’s okay! Besides,” you take out your credit card and flash it to Mei, “now we can have a girls day, yeah? Brag to daddy all about it.”
She beams up at you, and you finish buckling her into her seat.
Nails have been painted, delicious pastries for dessert have been picked, a cake to be baked and decorated has been prettied up, and now, all you can do is wait for Keiji to come home and witness all the fun he’d missed today.
Sure enough, 15:34 rolls around, and Keiji comes through the door, sleepy smile on his face and jacket shrugging off of his shoulders. “Hey, my girls.”
“Hey,” you hum, making your way over to him. You toss your arms around his neck and pucker your lips out for a kiss, which he tenderly returns. “How was work?”
“Exhausting,” he says with a small whine. “So glad to be home with the two loves of my life.” He smiles and kisses you again, only to then make eye contact with his daughter, who eyes him in a scold. He crouches down and reaches out to pinch her cheeks, only for her to dodge him slightly.
“And how’s my favorite little-“
“Hmph!”
Immediately, Keiji is cut off by the sound of your four year old’s disapproval, and he watches with a displeased furrow as she stomps her foot with crossed arms and turns away from him. His jaw is slacked, at the mercy of Mei and your attempts to not cackle out loud.
His eyes, filled with incredulous confusion flick back up to you in search for your assistance in correcting her attitude, but you say nothing. Instead, you place your hands on your hips and look down your nose at him.
He straightened his back and took a deep inhale for patience, “excuse me?”
“I said:” once again, Mei stomps her foot and crosses her arms tighter over her tiny chest, “hmph!”
“Have i upset you, Mei?” He asks, crouching lower to try and get her to open up to him. “Is there something you need to tell me?”
“You should know,” she snips.
God she’s so cute, you could just bite her.
Keiji, right now however, may disagree with that sentiment.
“I don’t think I like this attitude, little miss-“
“Not my fault you didn’t wish mommy happy birffday today!” Mei pouts, and instantly, Keiji’s brows shoot up, from anger to surprise. When he turns to look at you in confirmation, your expression turns from one of amusement, to faux anger to match Mei’s. His gaze softens, and he reaches his hands out to you for your affection.
“R…Really?”
“Really really,” you confirm. “I was super surprised our four year old and Koutarou remembered before you did.”
All the color drains from his face, and for a moment your expression softens as he looks like he’s about to faint right in front of you. “Kou…Koutarou remembered?”
“Honestly all of the Jackals did- Kiyoomi even sent me a card that’s due to come.” The detail, all though a little unnecessary, again makes him deflate, and even if your intentions are cruel, he looks so cute trying to grovel for forgiveness.
“Baby… my love… I’m so, so sorry-“
“You should be,” you huff, crossing your arms dramatically. “It’s a good thing I had Mei to keep me company all day, apparently she’s the only Akaashi who loves me.”
“Yeah!” Mei’s voice echos behind Keiji. It makes him snort and drop his head against your shoulder, palms smoothing up your hips and sides in an attempt to be affectionate, though the action only has you melting into his embrace.
“I’m so sorry,” he hums from your neck, peppering soft kisses along the length. Your breath hitches and your own hands come up to rest on his own shoulders. “Is there anything I can do to make up for it?”
“Absolutely not,” you say, giggling softly when he tenses up, then looking up it you in betrayal. “I want ramen. I want ice cream and chips, and I want to watch classic Disney movies as a family, and I want to do those cute panda face masks Mei got us for our anniversary with Koutarou.”
“Okay… okay I can do that; what kind of chips?”
“All of them.”
“You got it.” With that, Keiji kisses your cheek and quickly turns on his heal to head back out to the corner store to stock up on everything you asked for.
“Mommy?” Mei asks, tugging your pant leg.
“What baby?”
“Are you mad at daddy?”
You smile and ruffle her hair, bending down to pick her up and help you set up the rest of your birthday wishes.
“Couldn’t be mad at daddy even if I wanted to be.”

☆YOU SHARE A BIRTHDAY | suna rintaro, atsumu, miya, hinata shoyo, akaashi keiji
a/n - it’s my birthday and i share a birthday with suna, so i always think about like what he’d be like if he dated someone with the same birthday. so here’s him + others with that scenario (mainly for my own enjoyment)
cw - gn!reader, did not proofread
Tumblr media
when you met suna obviously one of the first things mentioned was your birthdays. he thought it was a cool coincidence that your birthdays fell on the same day. he didn’t look too much into it, but when you guys celebrated your birthday together he’s acting like it isn’t his birthday. he’s making it about you and saying it’s your special day and you correct him saying ‘our’ instead. but like he prefers to do something intimate with you on your guys’ birthday and then like party on another day that week with friends.
atsumu thought it was fate. like the fact that his s/o and him share a birthday? that was the universe saying you were meant to be together. he wasn’t an astrology guy but when he found out that libra’s were pretty comparable with each other he believed it. on your guys birthday the post he makes are so funny bc it could be so hot if you, him, and osamu and he’ll be like. “so grateful to share a birthday with the most amazing person in the world, and also samu”. like something like that to troll his twin.
hinata thinks it’s the best and even thinks that if/when you guys get married it needs to be on your birthday. “that wait its three times as special, and imagine all of the cake,” he’s trying to convince. you that it’s a good idea. he also likes that you guys share a birthday because you guys do your rounds of getting your free birthday gifts at stores and restaurants together.
i would like to imagine that you and akaashi actually met on a night out, celebrating your birthday’s separately. like you’re both with your own friends and bump into each other and somehow exchange the fact that it’s both of your birthdays and he offers to buy you a drink to celebrate. you think ‘oh that’s not fair i should buy him a drink for his birthday.’ overall you guys hit it off from then and when our guys finally start dating it’s just like a mute-cute with your birthday and you guys celebrate together rather than out with friends now.

『The Moment I Knew Pt. 2』
1 / 3 / 4
Tumblr media
The pain eased in the coming days but what stayed with you was this new realization you had made about your feelings. It almost baffled you how you were so blind to it before but looking back it was so obvious that it had always been him for you. However, one question still lingered on your mind: did he see you in the same light?
Rummaging through all your memories with him you almost made yourself believe that yes, he did but then again, he was your friend after all and what if he was just, well, friendly? So you made a point to be more careful with his calls and texts from then on, not because you were an asshole who ghosted people but because you felt paralyzed everytime his name popped up on the screen. Tongue-tied was an understatement of the state you were in. You just couldn't allow yourself to be friendly with him like you were before. What if your feelings for him only grew the more time you spent with him and you'd have to always pretend to just be a friend because there was no way you'd put down your guard and ask if he felt same? How easy it sounded, to ask a single question, but vulnerability was not your strongest suit.
Your short replies to his text messages and the way you'd find excuses to quickly end the phone calls did not fly over his head however. And he had a hunch on why you were suddenly seeming to avoid him. You must have been pissed that he didn't show up to your birthday party despite promising that he'd be there, right?
Keiji closed his laptop with a sigh and rubbed the tiredness from his eyes. As if he wasn't already stressed out enough because of work, the way you were distancing yourself from him only pissed him off even more. It was late but he didn't care, he needed to talk to you, understand why he was being avoided like the plague by the person he wanted to hold closer than anyone else in the world.
Your phone started buzzing, interrupting your reading time on the couch. Seeing the name on your screen you shut your book with a loud thud and hesitantly answered the call.
"Do you know how late it is, Keiji?" You tried your best to sound non-chalant, hoping the beating of your heart wasn't shaking your voice.
"I know you don't sleep at this hour. We need to talk."
You gulped. He waited for a moment and then spoke again when he was met with your silence.
"Actually, forget it. You're right, it's late and I don't wanna say something I'll regret. But we still need to talk so let's meet up. Tomorrow. Can you make it tomorrow?"
For a second you considered lying to him, making another excuse, telling him you were busy already but your mouth already spoke while your mind was busy with thoughts.
"Yeah, I'm free tomorrow."
"Good. At the usual café? Is 10 a.m. good?"
"Yeah."
"Ok.. I'll see you tomorrow. Night."
"Yeah.. good night."
The phone call ended, leaving you alone with your hammering heart in your chest. You had spent the entire week avoiding him and now you were supposed to meet him tomorrow? With a deep exhale you stood up from the couch and made your way to your bedroom. Sleep seemed to be the only cure to keep your mind quiet right now.
I brought this upon myself, you thought to yourself, laying in your bed, and you also couldn't deny the fact that he did deserve an explanation from you.
>>next day
At the café you paced back and forth on your seat, staring into space. When was he gonna show up? Your probably tenth glance at the clock on the café's wooden walls told you that you were just on time, even a bit early. And as if he had somehow read your mind he showed up right then, with that little smile on his face as he greeted you, causing you to feel an uncharacteristic flutter in your stomach. A wide smile appeared on your red lips against your own will. What was that promise you'd made to yourself about never wearing lipstick to impress anyone again? You were thinking to yourself how you must've lost your mind when you were putting it on infront of your bathroom mirror but that clearly hadn't stopped you.
And there he was, your friend who you had fallen in love with and he had no clue. How could he? You didn't even have a clue up until your birthday party last week. But now that you knew it seemed like it had been infront of your eyes all this time. Just how many times had you already lost yourself in those dark blue eyes while a feeling of home spread inside your chest? Just how many times had you spend hours deciding on what to wear when you would meet up with friends and you knew he was gonna be there? Certainly more than you'd like to admit.
"Did you order yet?" He asked as he sat down across from you and you didn't miss the way his eyes momentarily flickered to the unusal for you color on your lips.
You shook your head. "Nope. Waited for you."
"Didn't have to."
"I know. What are you getting?"
His eyes skimmed over the menu sheet on the table and he shrugged. "Probably the same as always, you?"
"I think I wanna try something new." You hoped that trying something new would maybe help you get your mind at least a little bit off of him and your feelings, something to distract you. Gosh, at this point you didn't even know how to behave around him anymore. Part of you wanted him to be yours so badly, to tell him about your feelings whilst another part of you screamed to never let it show, that you'd get disappointed and hurt and ruin something that was good as it was. As your mind and heart played tug of war with each other, you tried your best to remain calm and like your usual self.
He looked at you with a raised brow. "Y/n changing her routine?"
"Well," you awkwardly smiled at him and scratched the top of your nose. "I'm feeling up for a change."
His eyes fell onto your bright red lips again before meeting your eyes. "I can see that."
Suddenly you were starting to regret your choices. All of them. The avoiding him in first place. The agreeing to meet him. And the red lipstick. Although on the other side of the coin, another part of you felt a little triumphant flutter in your heart evertime you caught his eyes scanning your face, getting used to the new look.
After Keiji got his usual Caramel Latte and you were staring at your never tried before Lavender Latte, an uncomfortable silence fell between you two. Thankfully the distracting chatter around you made it feel easier to bear.
"The reason I wanted to meet you," he finally spoke, "is because I wanted to properly apologize for missing your birthday party."
"What?" You looked at him with confusion. "No! No, Keiji. You already did. It's fine."
"It didn't feel enough over the phone. And I also wanted to know if you're mad at me that I missed it." His fingers casually wrapped around the hot mug, he looked at you with a serious expression seeking a genuine answer.
You were about to try the new drink but his question caught you off guard and instead you set your drink down on the table a little harder than intended, causing the spoon to stir and clatter agains the glass. " No! Of course not!"
"Then why have you been avoiding me?"
"I wasn't- I-" your mouth stayed open as you tried to find an excuse to sell him but nothing. "Look, I didn't mean to."
"But you did. If it's not because of the party, why is it then?"
Because I realized that I fell for you and I'm terrified of you not returning my feelings and hurting me because I don't think I could handle that!
That's what you would've loved to tell him but of course you couldn't. No, you wouldn't. You didn't trust yourself to be able to handle it if he didn't react well. The risk was too big for you.
He let out a frustrated sigh when you gave him nothing but silence to his question. Maybe you two got along so well because of your stubborness. Like calls like, was it? He mentally shook away his thoughts of how well you two seemed to match even in your less positive traits and brought his focus back to you.
"You don't usually wear that shade." He remarked and your heart smiled all over again. It wasn't even about the color or what he thought of it. Just the fact that he seemed to take notice of little things about you made you want him even more. It felt so unfair that he was close enough to touch yet so far.
"Like I said," you stirred the spoon around in your fancy drink, avoiding his gaze and keeping up the casual facade. "Feeling up for a change."
"Should I be worried?"
"Oh no!" You looked up from your drink and dismissively waved your hand between you two. "Nothing like that. I'm ok, just.. y'know."
"I don't know, you're gonna have to elaborate."
Man, he's stubborn.
"Well, people change." You replied. A lame excuse and you knew that too.
"Im aware of that." His gaze bore into you.
"Like all the time," you continued.
"I know. What's your point?"
"You know what, it's nothing." The sip you took from your latte made you scrunch up your face. "I'm just yapping."
He took a sip from his familiar drink as well, then put his glasses, fogged up from the coffee steam, down on the table. "You're not a yapper."
"I'm a changed person now. Get used to it."
"Honestly, what's up with you?" The frustration was catching up and lacing around his words now and suddenly you felt like you were running out of time. You didn't mean to mess with him but you couldn’t deny that it probably seemed like that was exactly what you were doing.
"So you noticed my new lipstick shade," you tried to buffer by changing the topic and messing a little with him, a part of you unable to hold back from testing the waters a little after all. No, honestly, what was up with you? All those mixed signs you were giving him made a little frown appear over Keiji's face.
"What are you implying?"
"Nothing."
"I'm sure." He honestly didn't even know why he was still putting up with you at this point. Something made you act weird. Weirder than usual and he could tell you were hiding something from him when a light suddenly went on in his brain.
"Is there someone you like?" he asked you very straight-forward, his suddenly flat tone and expression hiding his uneasy anticipation to your answer.
"I mean," he went on as he noticed the way you stared at him with wide eyes and at a loss for words. "The new style, the way you've been ignoring me, probably cause your head is totally elsewhere, and let's not forget how you're acting all strange lately, I just thought, I don't know, maybe there's someone who's been occupying your mind. You seem a bit out of it. Like you're not quite here, but not in a bad way. Just in a.. bit of a different way."
Was there any way you could possibly talk yourself out of this? Your mind shot hundreds of excuses your way, all of them sillier than the one before. Probably not, you realized. But you still didn't feel ready to confess the truth.
"I'm taking that as a yes?" he said, a little unsure, when you still didn't answer.
"No!" You finally said, feeling your face heat up. "There's nothing like that, I really just needed a change."
"Ok.. then let me get a few things straight and I'm gonna need your full attention here, with me." He looked at you with a serious gaze and you nodded. "You're not mad I didn't show up at your birthday party?"
"No."
"And that's certainly not the reason you've been distancing yourself?"
"No."
"But you admit you've been distant?"
"I guess.." your eyes cast down on your drink like a kid who got caught causing trouble.
"Why?"
"I can't tell you?"
"So you're telling me it's none of my business."
"Yeah."
"So I was right about there being somebody you've got your eye on," he inquired, leaning back in his seat with his arms crossed.
"No! Just- let it go. Please."
"Fine. But only if you stop avoiding me."
You hesitated a little. "I will."
"Good."
Both of you exhaled in relief into the silence, the tension slowly melting away. You didn't dare take another sip from your drink, partially because it tasted terrible and partially because you felt like your heart was gonna jump out of your throat any second now.
"How's the drink?" He asked after taking the last sip of his own bevarage and putting his glasses back on.
"It's gross, wouldn't recommend," you replied, stirring the liquid around with a spoon. "And.. uhm- thanks for the birthday gift by the way. Bokuto made sure I'd get it and double and triple checked and asked me if he'd already given it to me."
You smiled at the memory of Bokuto excitedly handing the present over to you and Akaashi nodded slighty, more to himself than to you.
"I was a bit hesitant to trust him with it but he was very enthusiastic to play delivery guy for me."
You chuckled, the image of Bokuto trying to prove to Akaashi what a trusted delivery guy he'd be flashing in your mind.
"Good thing we have him," you chuckled.
"Yeah." Despite his calmer demeanour you could tell that there was still a restlessness in the air around him.
"You know," he started again, proving your feeling right. "You'd do both of us a huge favor by just speaking up about what's on your mind."
"Can I tell you a different time?"
His expression softened, a bit surprised that you gave in so easily this time, and he silently nodded.
You sighed. It wasn't like you didn't want to tell him, you were just too scared as of right now and needed a little more time. Until then you had no choice but to keep playing pretend.

Note
Hello! I would like the request to be:
1.Keiji
2.Envy
3.🥺
Thanks!
I love Keiji! He's such a bundle of contradiction! So! Approx. 900 words of our red-headed not-quite-warlord. A smidge angsty!
Keiji felt a deep well of unhappiness. He should be pleased, he thought. He should even be excited. It was the chatelaine’s birthday, and she was being celebrated. Nobunaga gifted her a bag of foreign candy, Ieyasu - a perfume made from rare flowers. Mitsunari even got her a book. His own gift seemed so small and silly in comparison.
She smiled down the table at him, a gentle, sweet look that told him she saw through his mask of a smile.
He gave her a jovial wave, pushing his discomfort down even further. This was her day, Keiji thought. He didn’t want her to feel even a little unhappiness. And certainly not because of him. He wished just once that he could tell himself he was happy and make it true.
Masamune stepped between them with another tray of some new kitchen creation and the chatelaine’s attention shifted.
Keiji sighed. He didn’t feel up to pretending anymore. It was too frustrating to sit here, feeling as if he didn’t really belong. As if the woman he loved would be better of with literally any of these guys. Well. Nearly any.
He slipped out of the gathering, moving with a surprising swift silence. Once he was out of the room, he felt the tension in his shoulders begin to relax. Keiji passed the hurrying servants with a nod, and made his way to the quiet courtyard.
The moon hung above the castle, full and bright. It lit the garden in silver hues, making everything feel muted and distant. The sounds of laughter and conversation faded into the night, leaving Keiji with the songs of whirring crickets and the calls of night-birds. He took a deep breath, letting the rest of his tension leak away.
His hand slipped down to the small bamboo case at his belt. Maybe he would give the chatelaine her gift tomorrow. Or just leave it in her room. Then he wouldn’t see her disappointment. They could both pretend his affection for her wasn’t pathetic, that he had yet to accomplish anything she could be proud of.
The whisper of footsteps on stone made him turn. Keiji expected to see a servant, but it was the chatelaine that met his gaze.
“I saw you slip out. Are you ok?” Her hand settled on his arm as gentle as a fallen petal.
“Yeah! I’m great! I just needed to cool down. It’s pretty hot in there, with all the people! But what are you doing out here? Get back in there! It’s your party!” Keiji’s exuberant mask slipped into place effortlessly as he laughed and pointed her back toward the feast.
“I’d rather spend time with you.”
The simply stated desire took the wind from him. His smile dropped from his face. “You are . . . so ridiculous.” He pulled her into a hug, burying his face in her hair. The familiar smell of her, the softness of her touch, the feel of her in his arms eased the ache in his heart.
“So are you.” She laughed softly. “Now, are you gonna tell me why you left? Were you feeling jealous?”
Keiji snorted. “No. Should I?”
“Of course not! So . . . so what happened then? Did someone say something?” She snuggled against his shoulder, peering up at him with genuine concern.
“No. Nothing like that. I just . . . you know, I’m not anything. I don’t have lands or wealth or anything really. And everyone else in there - those are men that could give you the world.”
She stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheek. “Maybe. But I don’t want the world. I just want you.”
Keiji gave a self-deprecating laugh. “You say that now. I couldn’t even get you a proper birthday gift.”
The chatelaine tilted her head. “You don’t need to get me anything. You’re my gift.” She playfully ran a finger across his chest.
He had to admit, that was a little bit of an ego boost. What guy didn’t want to think he was a gift, right? But . . . “I wrote you a poem. Hideyoshi gave you a horse. See a difference there?”
“You wrote me a poem?” Her eyes went wide. “I want to see! Please?”
Keiji sighed. “It’s not very good.” He pulled out the rolled paper and handed it to her.
The chatelaine scooted toward one of the lamps near the castle wall for light to read by.
Keiji stayed in the shadow, watching her expression with nervous tension.
Her eyes widened, lips curling in a slight smile. When she looked up, there were tears in the corners of her eyes. “This is . . . it’s the sweetest . . . did you really mean those words?”
He looked down. “I know. It’s too much, right? Too saccharine. I can try to write something else -”
She closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around him. “I love you. And I am going to keep this forever. And read it every day so I never forget how sweet you are. Even when you’re making that face.” She traced the edge of his jaw with a fingertip.
Disbelief bubbled in Keiji’s chest but the warmth of her gaze burned it away. “You are so weird. But I - I like it.” He leaned down to kiss her.
“Good.” Her hand curled around the nape of his neck, fingers tangling in his hair as she met his kiss with her own.

Yeah Kafka would indeed forget when shedding seasons is near. Even more so if his work at Monster Sweepers had been very busy as of late too. Though once the main events happens, Tabiki is not alone in making sure Kafka remember either.
Kafka first shedding season on base was quite the adventure too. Noone but Tabiki knew what to do and it was good thing he was there or else someone was about to loose a limb when they accidently set Kafka off. Shedding season is most likely one of the worse things about being a kaiju in general, nevermind being a hybrid.
The Science Dpeartment is having a blast though. And most the more foolish of them quikly learn to leave Kafka well alone when this happen. Its not really worth it to agonize the himbo when he is like this just to get a sample that will be handed to them later on anyways.
Most the key word there.
And yes I think indeed the DF deals with sewer operations given that kaijus are quite diverse in not only size but types, temperment and much more. At least from what we've seen so far in the managa and anime. It sure makes things interesting with what everyone has to deal with.
No doubt that this little adventure was some of the worse of it indeed. I won't be surprised that Kafka will get withering glares from all the retired officer that was part of that ordeal. Isao and Keiji is no doubt among them.
Now while the sewer incident is just one of them, theres other capture mission Isao has had with Kafka that have been less then ideal for the-to-be General of the DF.
One of which includes Isao and Jugo having to chase Kafka around in a amusement park where Kafka managed to lure the pair into a haunted house section. Which ended up in both men getting trapped somehow and Kafka scaring the living daylight out of them too boot.
Another involved once again paint, though this time its Isao turn to look like a rainbow barfed on him. Along with getting drenched in those party paper things used on birthdays (have I mention english is not my first languages?). Look up the offical music vidoe Light it up by Major Lazar for how Isao ended up looking if I confused you.
And the less said about baker incident the better really. Isao to this day still can't eat certain sweets thanks to that.
Mina and Soshiro give Kafka permission to taze any scientists who get too close. Especially if they try to take pictures or take samples of his sheds when he ain't done. The entire Defense Force knows it's stupid to aggravate a shedding kaiju, plus it would be a good lesson in boundaries to the unhinged Science Department members.
Kafka being extra happy and cuddly once the season is over. There also be a schedule installed as this ain't gonna be a one time occurrence. Although Kafka really hopes nobody shares those shedding picks cause he looks really stupid in some of them. Like wearing an oversized skin jacket or the 'shed pope hat'.
It would be so ironic if the dessert Isao can't eat is one of those Tiramisu cakes with his face on it that Kikoru bought in Kaiju No.8 Relax. The sheer irony as she shares the pastries only to see him cringe at the cakes.

I haven't fully read a father's world yet but I would like to hear your thoughts about chapters 9 and 10
Ah… Sara’s birthday from the outsiders perspectives…
So I started Keiji’s chapter with a flashback that wasn’t in the game. I’d put it somewhere around day 3, after the intensity of the Sou confrontation has worn off.
It mostly exists because I needed a reason for Keiji and Gin to know it was Sara’s birthday but I think it helped show a lot of what was lost. Gin Sara and Keiji, a found family that fell apart, not only because Sara gave herself up, but because Keiji chose to be absent from Gin’s life.
Then there’s the whole sharper than he liked comment on Keiji’s part about Sara when she points out his bad cooking. While it’s a simple thing about his bad cooking skills it also highlights how she can see through him emotionally and has pulled some of his secrets out of him, despite his initial hopes of using her as a pawn and… Ugh. Keiji. I love fucked up men.
And Kai… fucking Kai. I don’t really have all the time to touch on Kai in this fic since he’s dead (but I have a friend @datastate who’s working on a fic where Kai is alive for bad end so look forward to that) but at this point in the game Sara still probably doesn’t know who Kai is, but, she’s learned about his presence in her life not as a stalker and that he’s just gone and she can’t ask anything and what about meals, was he in charge of those, if so shouldn’t she take charge? Because she’s always taking charge of that stuff.
Cut to present day. The death game is over, Sara is gone, and if Keiji was having a self-destructive spiral before the death game occured, it’s increased tenfold with all the new things he holds guilt for. He’s still working on a quest to save Sara (that he knows won’t amount to much. He’s just doing it as a self inflicted repentance.) and part of that repentance is giving her something on her birthday.
There’s really not much to it, since Keiji isn’t financially well off, and of course he feels guilty for that too. He’s so in need of punishing himself for any transgression. So the Sara hallucination appears.
The Sara hallucination was a planned part of the story since before I wrote the first chapter, and it sort of gets hard sometimes since I don’t want the Sara to take up more spotlight than Mr Policeman. They’re both traumatic things he feels guilt for. But yeah, this chapter is about Sara and she’s the sole one who shows up here to celebrate her party, and give out all the worst case scenarios Keiji might be thinking because yeah. He really has no idea what’s going on. He’s just creating horrible scenarios in his head.
Happy birthday Sara! Onto Gins chapter!
So again, with Qtaro, it’s hard to get him in focus in this fic with him being dead and all, but I thought Gin comparing Shin to him was a good idea, because Qtaro also wasn’t the best to Gin at first, but Gin stuck by him.
Still Gin is having trouble coping with Shin. He isn’t stupid. He knows he set up the monitor with Joe. And he knows there’s people dead because of him. And he also knows that part of the reason Sara made her decision was because if the death game went on people (including herself) could die and there was one person preaching death to all.
But still, he’s a good kid, a kid full of love, and if Shin is trying shouldn’t he give him a chance? Especially if his mom insists?
Side note but despite the running gag of Gin accusing Shin of fucking his mom I did not intend for that to be any more than a kid letting his imagination run wild.
But Gin also doesn’t want to cause trouble for his mom is something I make abundantly clear in this chapter. We see in the game how Gin clearly wants to help everyone and runs into danger, and how he hates being treated like a little kid, that he wants to be seen as someone strong who can help his mom. He shouldn’t have to because he’s just a kid, but he doesn’t have the best home life what with his drunken dad, so he thinks he should step up as the “man” of the house.
Oh and he’s also extra making sure now because he accidentally signed his moms life away to Asunaro. His good intentioned want to help her was twisted into having to follow them for her safety and because of that he’s extra paranoid, and extra sure he wants to help. Again, it’s not fair on a child but it’s what he wants.
Nana is trying her best but (as shown in later chapters) she doesn’t truly understand the scope of her child’s problems. She wants to, and she honestly does the best she can, but she has no idea what the death game was like, and she’s mainly focused on caring and providing as much as possible, and she’s especially keeping a close eye now that he’s left the death game, which is good, Nana is a good mother, but Gin isn’t happy.
And then telling Shin it’s Sara’s birthday… Shin is still unsure how to feel about the… concept of Sara. Sara has still not quite registered to him as a human being. The death game had him in hatred mode, slowly coming to an understanding, before she sacrificed herself, and then the “Kanna was my sister” reveal threw a wrench in his trying to reconcile with her… but Gin wants this! Make the kid happy!
Of course Shin still is just a person, and not a baker for that matter, so most he can provide is a premade kit, not what Gin wants. It sorta stings, and Gin blames it on Shin’s hatred of Sara. And okay, sure, you could maybe say that, but that’s not all that’s at play here.
And… Gin also in a sense idolizes Keiji, even after he left him. He was the Mr Policeman, who was nice to him and Sara, not the enemy like Shin. Surely he’d be nicer. Surely he wouldn’t have left me right?
Still throughout the process Gin and Shin come to reconcile. This time when Gin brings up Sara, Shin actually makes an effort to speak and show concern instead of trying to change the subject. Gin realizes he missed Shin’s birthday and forces him to celebrate, (and also a reference to the fact the last person he celebrated with was Midori) and it shows to Shin, he’s still part of this day. Sara isn’t some christ figure to everyone who he can’t dare to walk with. She was a person.
It’s also significant how everyone thinks Sara has no birthday party, but she does, and it, much like everything else is a way to manipulate her. Her birthday is when she finally ‘gives in’ to her father and accepts that she ‘should be happy with what she has’ which I think is a much worse fate than having no party :,)
Anyways happy birthday again Sara!

KOKIA round-up: Jan 28-29, 2023
As before, I will for now stick to summarizing KOKIA’s recent blog entry instead of doing a full translation. As she also revealed some things during today’s stream, I have included that information below as well. Thank you again for your patience and understanding! -KOKIAfans admin
Tumblr media
On the January 29 stream of her 2011 ‘The 5th season’ concert, KOKIA announced the following in the chat:
The next monthly viewing party will be The 5th season day 2 (the third and fourth DVD of the concert DVD release). A definite date wasn’t announced, but going by the pattern, I am guessing it will be Sunday February 26, 20:00 JST.
For her 25th anniversary concert, the tickets for Thursday, April 27 are selling less than for Friday, April 28. As an incentive, KOKIA announces that both days will have different set lists. For each day, she’s currently deciding between the songs EXEC.COSMOFLIPS/. versus GEMATRIA, Chiisana uta (’small song’) versus utau hito (’singing people’), Fukurou (’owl’) versus Kurage (’jellyfish’) and Hoshi no keiji (’star revelation’) versus Chouwa (’harmony’). So at least four songs will be completely different per concert day, similar to the two The 5th Season concert days.
As of interest for fans outside of Japan and closer to Europe, KOKIA responds (in English) that she would like to plan a performance in London, or perhaps France, though making it happen is slow going as she does everything on her own. Things have also changed since the pandemic, so she is unsure where to start now. Maybe someone has contacts who can help?
As a nice celebration on the side, KOKIA announced on her Facebook and Instagram that the digital single Kisetsu hazure no sakura (’late-blooming cherry blossoms’) previously ranked #1 in the iTunes J-pop list in Turkey, but it’s currently also ranking #5 in the UK iTunes J-pop list. KOKIA is currently still in London, but will return to Japan in time for the cherry blossom season.
Finally, in her blog entry for January 28, 2023, KOKIA talks about how she’s preparing a treasure hunt in the forest for her son Leo’s birthday earlier this month, once her health has recovered enough. She’s also very pleased to announce the next part of her 25th anniversary merchandise, her first-ever blouson and a T-shirt with a hoodie, which will be released sometime next week. In the photo, KOKIA shows off the black blouson from the back. She warns that stock will be limited to reduce the chance of left-overs, so please be sure to order as soon as you can. The blousons and T-shirts come in different sizes.

PLEASE CAN YOU DO A SCENARIO WHERE READER DOES SOMETHING REALLY SWEET FOR KEIJI AND HE LIKE, ALMOST CRIES?? (Maybe they get a family member he hasn't seen in a long time to come over?) I don't know why I want him to almost cry but I wanted a cute scenario where he's super overwhelmed and readers like "?? Please don't cry baby I'm sorry" and he tells them that he's happy crying. If you can't come up with something then that's totally okay, don't stress yourself :D (happy birthday Keiji, baby :) )
this was a really sweet idea :’) if there’s something that would make keiji cry happy tears it would be getting a special gift like this. i hope u enjoy this third gym squad fluff >:)
-
Keiji was being quiet on your walk home from dinner, and you desperately wanted to change that. To do so, you asked him the only question you could think of. “So… how was your birthday?”
He hesitated to answer, and you weren’t sure if he had even heard you. You squeezed his hand a bit harder, seeming to bring him back to life.
“Oh, it was good,” he said, giving you a small smile. “You made it great, Y/N.”
You nodded and decided not to press him any further. You were almost home anyway, and you were scared you’d spill your little secret if you spoke any more.
You had gotten Keiji all the gifts he’d asked for, you treated him to a special breakfast, and had taken him for dinner at his favorite restaurant. And he was thankful, you knew that. But every year Keiji wished for one thing; one thing you were never able to get for him… until now.
It had been three years now since Keiji and his best friends were all together. Something that used to be a tradition was celebrating each other’s birthdays, but it just wasn’t possible anymore like it used to be.
All the boys lived in different cities now doing their own things. Kuroo was always traveling, Bokuto was coaching an elite high school volleyball team, and Tsukishima was still in grad school. They were a busy bunch.
You knew Keiji missed them a lot. Since graduating college three years ago a lot of things had changed for him. But as adaptable as he was, he really didn’t take well to those changes; he missed his friends and the traditions they once had. Keeping up with each other through texts and social media just wasn’t the same.
Every year on his birthday, Keiji would tell you stories about their usual birthday traditions. Bokuto’s family had a beach house and that’s where Keiji had celebrated five of his birthdays surrounded by his three friends - at least half of those birthdays he spent drunk off his ass, so his memory is a bit fuzzy. But even though it was too cold to play beach volleyball on his birthday, Keiji always had an amazing time celebrating his day with them.
Those trips were special to him. He turned 18 there, had his first drink there, made countless memories there. But it wasn’t the location that mattered - it was the company.
You couldn’t take it anymore. Every time Keiji would call one of them without getting an answer, the heartbroken look on his face was too much to bare. And he always ended his stories with a solemn smile and a now infamous tagline: “I’d just love to have one more birthday like that.”
You wanted to give him that.
That’s why Kuroo, Bokuto, and Tsukishima were all waiting inside your house waiting for you to get home with Keiji; the moment you two walked in, he would be met with his best friends, who all missed him just as much.
It was tough wrangling them all together, but none of them took too much convincing. In fact, they were all just as eager as Keiji was to have another trip.
You were at the doorstep now, but you stopped Keiji before he could open the door. With both hands on his cold cheeks, you placed the sweetest kiss you could muster onto his lips.
“Happy birthday, baby,” you told him before kissing him again. “I love you so, so much.”
He gave you a happy smile, one he reserves for moments like these. “I love you,” he replied, then gave you a thank-you kiss before pulling away and finally opening the door, ready to get out of the cold. “And I really love the watch you got me,” he said as he was taking off his shoes. “I think you’ve adopted some of my good taste -”
“Look who decided to show up!”
You watched everything unfold from the doorway with an uncontainable smile, excited to see your plan finally work out. Keiji seemed to freeze in place at the sound of Bokuto’s voice.
“Hey, it’s the birthday boy!”
And when he heard Kuroo, he had to look back at you to make sure you heard them, too. When he saw your smile he knew he wasn’t going crazy.
“What - what are you guys… doing here?”
“Well, we heard it was someone’s birthday today,” Kuroo said, now standing behind Bokuto. “So we thought we’d swing by.”
“Y/N planned this,” said Tsukishima, who seemed to come out of nowhere.
“Really?”
Keiji’s voice was uncharacteristically quiet, and he looked back to you to confirm what they were saying. You nodded, and as he looked at his smiling friends, he couldn’t believe they were actually standing there in front of him.
But all of your smiles dropped when his head fell into his hands. You could hear his quiet cries and saw his body shaking, and that’s when your excitement turned to concern.
“Keiji,” you said as you quickly walked over to him. “Keiji, baby, are you okay?”
He shook his head and wiped his face, laughing at himself because his tears wouldn’t stop. “Yeah, I just… I’m really happy,” he said, giving in to his crying once again.
“Akashi, you big softie!”
“We missed you too, kid.”
You pulled him into a hug which he turned bone crushing; he squeezed you so tight you thought you’d pop.
“Thank you,” he whispered as his tears continued to fall onto your shirt. “I love you, kitten, thank you.”
He collected himself and you pushed him away, encouraging him to go properly greet his friends. And he did; Bokuto gave him a bear hug, Kuroo put him in a playful headlock and made his curly hair an even bigger mess while rubbing his knuckles on his head, and Tsukishima only snickered at them - though he was thankful it was Keiji getting Kuroo’s tough love rather than himself.
And then Keiji came back around to you; he gave you a big kiss, one his childish mates oohed and awed at, and pulled you into another hug.
“You’re the best,” he told you. “I love you. Thank you, I love you.”
“You don’t have to thank me,” you giggled. “I love you.”
“We hate to ruin this romantic moment,” Kuroo said. “But we’ve got to get going.”
Keiji’s seemingly permanent smile faded away at that. “Really? Already?”
“Yeah, man, we’ve got a long drive ahead, you know?” Bokuto replied.
Keiji, while disappointed, understood. “Yeah, I get it.”
You poked his side to grab his attention. “So you should probably go pack, babe.”
“Pack?”
“For a four night stay in the Bokuto family resort!”
Keiji was, again, completely shocked. “Really?”
“Yes, now go pack -”
“- and don’t start crying again!”
Keiji ran to his room and made sure the rest of his tears were hidden from his friends, and as he packed his bag he reminded himself how thankful he was for the people in his life. For you, specifically. And he knew he’d have to pay you back for this when your birthday rolls around.

『The moment I knew』
- Taylor Swift

Tumblr media
It turned out that a million little shining stars wouldn't allign for you that night like you had hoped. As more and more people walked through the door, each face that wasn't his leaving you with a bitter taste in your heart.
He said he'd be here.
He was just a friend who couldn't show up. It shouldn't hurt this much. It's not like he'd completely forgotten about you. The text message he sent, the little gift he made sure you'd get through Bokuto, shouldn't all that be enough? Well, it wasn't to you. Because what you wished for most was to see his face in the room full of people you called your friends. That, you realized, was everything you would've needed that night. None of the fancy party decoration, not the beautifully crafted cake and the stacked presents, not even the company of your friends felt good enough because there was one thing missing. And that was the moment you knew.
Despite the fact that the party had started hours ago you still couldn't help yourself from glancing at the entrance throughout the entire night, a sliver of hope whispering into your ear, 'What if he shows up? Just what if?'
But the time just kept ticking without him walking through that door like you wanted him to so badly. And it was nice, being surrounded by your friends that is. The cake was nice too, the presents, everyone's smiles and the glistening light the mirrorball was reflecting into the room. It was nice to see everyone having a nice time and enjoying themselves, dancing and grinning and laughing and having fun. It was nice being asked how you were doing. What wasn't nice was the way you lied through your teeth, telling everyone that you're fine while your memory kept on recalling his promise of showing up. You said you'd be here..
No, this wasn't how you had imagined the night at all. But now here you were, standing in your party dress and the red lipstick you'd chosen to impress him. It made you laugh at yourself. How silly. You knew that he was not the type who'd be easily swept away by a lipstick shade but a love-lorn girl could dream, get lost in wishful thinking, act in ways she normally wouldn't. That's how love worked, right? It made the sensible senseless and the senseless sensible. It made you act in weird ways you couldn't explain to yourself, made you not recognize yourself anymore.
You faked a big smile as your friends gathered around you and started singing happy birthday to you, blissfully unaware of your unhappy heart. Gosh, now you felt ungrateful too. How could a single person just cause so much damage in another person's being? And that unknowngly too? The crowd dissipated after you blew your candles (not daring to make a wish) and everyone got a piece of cake on their plate.
"Hey," a voice snapped you back into reality from your trance-like state, slinging an arm over your shoulder. It was Konoha. Close behind him came Yukie, holding a muffin in each hand, a little chocolate from it smeared on her mouth.
"Thanks to the birthday kid the whole gang's back together!" Konoha gave Yukie and you a bright charming smile. "Although, I haven't seen Akaashi yet, is he not here?"
You swallowed the lump in your throat and faked another smile at them. "No, he couldn't make it."
"Oh, that's too bad," Yukie chimed in and took a bite off of her muffin. "Feels like ages since we talked. Would've been nice to see him again."
"Yeah, it would've," you forced a small chuckle but it came out rather nervous. "How are you guys enjoying the party?" You quickly changed the topic.
Konoha opened his mouth to reply but was cut off by an overly enthusiastic Yukie.
"It's great! Those chocolate muffins are actually out of this world! They must be straight from heaven or something."
"So glad you like 'em!" The excitement in your voice didn't match the sinking feeling in your chest and you caught Konoha's eye, looking at you like he's noticed something is off, he just couldn't put his finger on what it was.
"Uhm- excuse me for a moment," you said as you held in your tears and pushed past your two friends, earning a confused look from Konoha behind your back. This was getting too much, you needed a quiet place or else you'd start sobbing your heart out infront of everybody. And how could you ever explain to them the reason behind your tears? They'd surely think you weren't grateful for them and their efforts.
Your heart started beating faster and faster as you ran down the hallway, looking for a secluded place to cry, the bathroom will do. You pushed down the handle, taking in a deep and shaky breath as you entered. Just when the tears were about to spill a knock and an all too familiar voice on the door made your heart skip a beat in slight panic. You watched as the door carefully opened and a pair of amber eyes peeked inside.
"Y/n." Bokuto opened the door a little wider, his hand resting on the handle, and standing behind him was Konoha with crossed arms. Both guys looked at you with concern.
The concern didn't sit quite right on Bokuto's face in in your opinion, it almost made you feel guilty for putting that expression on him. You wanted to tell them that everything's fine, that you just needed a breather and despite holding back your tears with all your force your trembling lips gave you away. They knew something wasn't right.
"What's wrong?"
And that's when you couldn't hold back your tears anymore. There was no point in hiding it.
"He said he'd be here," your voice cracked miserably. With the back of your hand you started wiping the tears away that suddenly didn't seem to wanna stop, smudging your mascara in the process. That, however, was the least of your worries right then.
Bokuto and Konoha gave each other a confused look for a moment before what you just said dawned on them and their faces lit up.
"You're crying because.. Akaashi didn't show up?" Konoha asked carefully, just to make sure they understood correctly.
Sheepishly you nodded, your face flush from both the crying and embarassement.
Bokuto on the other hand still seemed to need a moment to proccess the situation. You could see the wheels turning behind his wide eyes, when suddenly he frantically looked between you and Konoha, eventually landing his gaze on you with bright eyes.
"You like Akaashi, y/n?!"
"Shh!! Keep it do-" You were cut off by your raven haired friend who suddenly showed up behind Konoha and Bokuto.
"Y/n likes Akaashi?" Kuroo asked, intrigue in his eyes.
And there you were, a crying mess infront of your friends just because one person hadn't showed up. Pathetic wasn't enough to describe how you felt about yourself in that moment.
"No, I don't," you immediatly defended yourself, anger rising in your guts. Just how did the night turn out like this? You wanted to be in your bed, alone and cry in peace, not be bombarded with your friends asking you about him.
Both Konoha and Kuroo raised a brow, looking at each other and then at you.
"Yeeaah, sure," Konoha started. "That's why you're crying over him not being here- ouch! What?"
Kuroo had lightly punched him on his side to make him shut up and walked up to you, placing a hand on your shoulder. You looked up at him with your teary eyes to see a fond smile on his face.
"Hey, it's all good. We won't tell anyone else if you don't want us to," he told you reassuringly.
With a sniff you nodded and Kuroo let go of your shoulder.
"I really wanted him to be here," you confessed quietly through your sniffs with your gaze looking down at your feet. A moment of silence befell the room as the guys shared concerned looks with each other, every single one of them not quite sure how to comfort you.
Bokuto who had been quietly watching the entire time walked up to you and silently pulled you into a hug. When nothing else did the trick hugs usually helped, right? You squeezed your eyes shut in your friend's comforting embrace as more and more tears rolled down your cheeks and wet his shirt. What a shitty birthday party it was. But at least you had your friends to console you. Bokuto held you until your tears finally stopped and he pulled away to look at you with that smile of his that just looked so right on his face.
"Y/n. He really wanted to come. He would've if he could've."
Maybe it was his reassurance as Akaashi's best friend or maybe it was because of the hug but the heaviness in your heart felt a bit lighter to carry now. Just a little bit. Kuroo and Konoha both nodded along to Bokuto's reassurance.
As everything does, the night eventually came to an end too. After the little scene at the bathroom Kuroo had asked if it was time for the party to end and if he should kick everyone out. You had reassured him that it was fine and they had hesitantly accepted. After sending them away to the others so you could freshen yourself up a bit and wash the smudged makeup off of your tear stained face, your gaze had locked onto your crimson lips on the bathroom mirror. You had felt the lump in your throat again and laughed it off. I'm never wearing lipstick to impress anyone again, you'd taken a mental note for yourself and joined your friends once more.
After everyone finally left, leaving you exhausted and numb, you stared at the empty room. It didn't feel much different from when it was full with people. No matter how hard you tried, you couldn't shake the feeling that the absence of his presence had brought you that night.
Your phone, buzzing on the coffeetable, brought you back to the present. You reached for it just so your heart could feel another stab upon seeing the name on your screen. Staring at your ringing phone, you almost didn't pick up but how could you not when it was him?
"Hey," your greeting went through to him and he caught the absence of joy in it. One that should've been present after a night like this.
He's not one to beat around the bush and waste people's times, especially not yours, so he replied quick and honest.
"Hey, I'm sorry, I didn't make it."
You knew he meant it, the sincerity in his low voice was impossible to miss, that however didn't lighten the heaviness you felt in your heart.
"I'm sorry too." What else was there left to say anyway? That was the moment you knew.
