Quick note, I have like no context for whatever it may be implied that orpheuslament is talking about, but real talk, this is a serious issue with most groups left of centre, they assume a basic framework of understanding for all topics when that's not something most people have.

I'm going to use flat earth as an example, since I have a really good analogy in mind. Imagine you know nothing about geology or astronomy, and think the earth is flat, and you decide to educate yourself. You find Professor Dave, and you're instantly turned away by his hostile attitude. That's most left of centre groups.

Now imagine that same scinario, but instead of finding Professor Dave, you find Dave McKeegan. McKeegan explains things in a non-hostile, and in depth way, covering the same stuff Professor Dave does, but without that immediate air of hostility. You're more likely to not be turned away, assuming you are actively looking to learn in good faith.

Now, I understand being rather rude to someone who is clearly not acting in good faith, but there's the assumption that anyone who approaches without any baseline knowledge won't be acting in good faith just because they didn't do any preliminary research, but that assumption alone turns away so many people who are willing to learn and don't even know how to phrase the first questions they want answered that it's a massive detrimant to any left of centre communities.

I'd even accept us just saying "hey, it seems you don't have the baseline knowledge to even begin to understand what we're talking about" over the current attitude of "Well, you're clearly too dumb to be here in good faith" at this point. This is a long standing issue in a lot of places with a long history of ongoing conversations as well, not just left of centre communities. This can be seen in some hardcore gaming spaces as well, or games with well established META's, but those places don't have nearly the effect on the world and the people living on it that political discussions have.

Wow, I know I ramble a lot, but this was supposed to be a quick note, so I'll stop here before I accidentally end up writing an essay long enough to be used for a college application.

i'm aware that due to luffy's more cheerful personality and looks, a lot of people might find it weird to picture him in sexual situations. especially since most of us see him as aroace (as if aroace people couldn't have sex or be in love but, y'know, that's for another time) and it's completely understandable to not feel comfortable around sexual stuff if you don't like it with this specific character. however, being uncomfortable around that type of content and infantilizing luffy's character to the point that you consider it problematic or wrong to put him in romantic/sexual situations is too much and you should let people enjoy characters however the fuck they want. if you don't like something just scroll and ignore it, but don't try to make everyone follow your own moral compass and likes because we're all different and luffy is just a fictional character.

people often forget he's the captain of a pirate crew. he's mature and has critical thinking and if seeing a cheerful/cute character instantly makes you assume he deserves to be "protected" from sex/romance, you are: infantilizing his personality (that may or may not be neurodivergent coded, but that's another story), villainizing sex and romance instead of just seeing those as something you don't personally enjoy but should let other people consume, and using being aroace as a shield from the real world and a stereotype instead of actually being inclusive and truly seeing him as aroaspec. friendly reminder that aroaspec people can have sex and be in romantic relationships because it's a spectrum. that's the whole thing about it. it's understandable to not be comfortable around sexual situations with a character you don't perceive as sexually active, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to write him that way. let people do whatever they want with their idea of luffy and have fun!

okay while i get my stuff set up i am interested in y'all's personal headcanons for peeta and katniss both as a couple and apart? particularly because i think a lot of people gloss over their flaws and their particular idiosyncrasies that make them incompatible. like generally how do people imagine they get over the whole "peeta tries to kill katniss in a very intimate way" thing? or how peeta has to do such intense therapy to work to not be afraid of katniss (and to not have to self harm in order to ground himself, etc.). and also how do people kind of. i guess interpret the whole "it took five, ten, fifteen years for him to convince me" part of the epilogue. and the epilogue in general? because i always viewed the epilogue as being like. melancholy and resigned rather than a happy ending like the very end of the final chapter was.
