Absolutely adore this ‘what-if’ canonish fic that teases at a potential time travel component! Caroline has grown up and has started exploring the world. She has few regrets, and when she and Klaus meet again, it’s this ‘heartbreaking, bittersweet everything being ALMOST perfect...except’ moment. One of my favorite go-tos to read again and again!

The Adventures of Duck & Chicken by wanderlustfaery

What a silly-yet-absolutely-marvelous premise! It’s a unique blend of rom-com with some fluffy angst and reading this one always brings a smile to my face. Also, Duck and Chicken make great roommates, but bear in mind they are NOT to be crossed! LOVE the comedic chops this writer puts on display!

Because I CANNOT get enough soulmate fics, this one always makes my list of rereads! Canonish elements put the reader right into the scenes and that Caroline-Elijah unexpected bonding moment (seriously this writer masterfully tackles this scene) makes me wistful that the TVD writers didn’t explore scenes like this.

However Long It Takes by Sophia Chase

This is an amazing collection of one-shots (one of my faves is Ch 27 though – really great canon-ish fic with Klaus-as-Alaric and I would LOVE to see this one extended one day!) Really great mix of rom-com-style fics in this series, created by a very talented writer!

Honestly one of this fandom's statement works. If you haven't read it yet, please do.

Same as the above. One of the most iconic KC fics of all time imho. The canon AU to end all canon AU. When I first decided to come out of the shadows and create a tumblr and actually start interacting with folks, this was the first fic that was recced to me. I was very grateful then, and now I'm here to pass this knowledge on.

Honestly of the sweetest, most heartwarming fics I've ever read! It's a human AU that's a How I Met Your Mother sort of adaptation, and honestly the first time I've ever enjoyed HIMYM. I love a good ensemble fic and this is just it! Supernutella is so talented.

This fic was WRITTEN FOR ME because of how much I pestered my friend Luiza about Carolijah and this will forever feel like a trophy to my heart. 🥰 It made me feel ALL THE FEELINGS. I hated Caroline, I loved Caroline, I loved my baby Elijah, I hated him, I also hated Klaus (he's such a fucking asshole omfg), but then the end was just DHAGHDDASAS!! You think you're in for a certain kind of story and it turns out to be so much more. It is, deep down, about the brothers, how selfish they are, how they can hurt each other more than anyone, but how they love one another above anything else, even when they want to kill each other (and fall in love with their brother's girl!!!). It's beautiful, like everything Luiza writes, and it genuinely made me cry.

I saw a discussion the other day about how whoever wrote this fic JUST GOT IT, and I have to say I completely agree with the person who made that comment. Luiza just NAILS Caroline's grief and loneliness after her mother's death, how isolating and gut-wrenching it is. Klaus being the person who finds her, who knows exactly what to say without her ever having to spell it out, the one who can truly see her, is so honest too. This fic is sensitive and absolutely beautiful. Luiza's writing is perfection and this is for sure one of my all-time favorites.

. Whisper to me, Help me remember by @lalainajanes

This story reimagines the plot with the "villains" of TO S3 in a way that proves my point that the premise of that season was good, but execution was absolute crap. All of the potential the De Martels had to be incredible antagonists was completely destroyed at the hands of the show writers - but explored to perfection by Laine's much more capable hands. Klaus is freed after 10 years in captivity to find that Caroline had been working with Tristan this whole time in order to take him down - except something is not quite right about that. While you're at it, please read all of Laine's fics! It's a delight.

. Into the Woods by @jinxedwood

I wept when I read this because it's the post-TO canon fic I didn't even know I needed. Caroline's search for a way to stop her twins' merger ends up leading her to someone who's been watching over her on the Other Side. 😭 I thought I'd always rather live in denial when it came to how TO ended, but this fic made my heart so full! Also, jinxedwood's use of fae mythology here was incredible.

. All I Need by @euvixen

This story is HOT. It taught me things about the werewolf AU universe I was not prepared to learn, but I am a much happier person after reading it. It's a canon mates AU that will leave you 🥵🥵🥵🥵 I speak as though the story was merely about the smut, but it's actually much more than that. A TVD S3 reimagine of sorts that is incredibly satisfying. That's my favorite season of TVD, but this is still even better.

Anyone who's known me for a some time knows how this fic was my entire personality for a while there. I'm obsessed with Kelly's writing, and I have this fic on a freaking pedestal. I first started reading it when it was on a six years hiatus, and I was *so* into it I didn't even bother me that it might never get updated because it was so good I was just happy I'd found it. But then my silly comments inspired Kelly to come back to it, finish it, and it has honestly been my greatest accomplishment as a part of this fandom because this is a masterpiece. It's a TVD/Supernatural crossover where Caroline is a step-sister to the Superbros. It's truly, truly epic, with beautiful writing. This could genuinely be a show. It's amazing, just read it.

This, right here, is the perfect Klaroline-within-canon story. This is the story that put my revolt to rest and gave my spirit some much deserved peace where those two are concerned. This is exactly what canon should've been like. I'm not even joking, this is IT. If you'd asked me what I thought the perfect Klaroline development should be like I probably would've said something very vague because I couldn’t explain it, I’m not that great or creative a writer, but now I can just show you this story and let you bask in the amazingness of a fantastic read that will not only keep you thoroughly entertained, but will also be the answer to all the questions you didn't even know you had.

. Paradise Lost by Borzoi

When i grow up, I want to learn how to write like Borzoi. All of their fics are incredible novella-like reads. It's addictive. And this is probably my favorite (it varies though, sometimes I'm in a Parisian Deal era). What happens after Klaus and Caroline sleep together in 5x11, and how they eventually find their way back to each other. It's just one of those stories that you can't stop reading after you start. It's so rich, so deep, so perfectly IC. One of those fics to end all fics.

. The Stubborn Grace of Being Loved Regardless by @helpless-in-sleep One of the modern day classics, if you will. This fic is such a stunning, vivid and delicate picture of Caroline's mind as she was dealing with the consequences of the abuse she suffered at the hands of Damon. She's still human, but she's probably more IC than we've seen her ever on the show when it comes to this. The bond she forms with Klaus is truly incredible too, and speaks a lot of how the two of them really do have a lot in common (even with Caroline still as a human), but it's really the Caroline study part of the story that touches me. The writing is absolutely beautiful as well.

This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character and, in my head, I kinda like to pretend that this is what happened before Caroline married Stefan. lol

. Wanderlust by @bellemorte180 Anybody who was a part of fandom around the time this story was being published can tell you how much of an EVENT it was. There were discussion groups about the mystery. It was so entertaining. Erica's attention to detail and how she wove the little clues throughout the chapters made this a genuine thriller. I particularly some of the side-characters here. It's honestly another fandom staple I think everyone should read.

In terms of newer fics that I can rec you, I have two that are on my TBR. One of them is a WIP that I've been slowly going through, and the other one I know was recently finished.

This was recced to me by two friends recently and I started reading it a while back and thought it was incredible! I have sadly been awful with keeping up with stuff, but just based on the raving reviews and the five chapters I read, I fully believe it to be just as awesome as it seems to be. The writing was so good, and I was just in love with Klaus' voice in this story. It was so reminescent of early-days TVD Klaus, which is by far my favorite Klaus of all. Sexy and dangerous and so smooth. I loved it! Need to get back to it.

Listen, if you like kid fics, this is absolutely for you. The whole story is narrated by an eight-year-old OC, the daughter of Ray Sutton, the first werewolf Klaus kills when he's trying to start his mass-production of hybrids. She's a little wolf herself, and a while little thing who was subjected to her fair share of child trauma. Klaus has no idea what to do with her, but ends up taking her with him as continues on his journey, and ends up forging a bond with the little girl. I cannot tell you how delicious this story is. It has Klaroline, yes, but for me the little girl is the absolute star of the company. I usually hate OCs, especially children, in fics, but this one is AMAZING. Seriously. The way this story is written is glorious. I can't recommend it enough.

Do people realise that the Sun and Moon Show is a passion project?

Because I've seen people act like Reed and Davis are proffessional story writers, and getting way too angry over TSAMS, instead of enjoying it for what it is:

silly, goofy Celestial shenanigans. On YouTube.

Like this show has brought me so much joy, and I've been enjoying the ride, even if it's not something all that serious. It's goofy, that's kinda the point! :D

And all the serious lore on this channel is just the spice to the silly roleplay happening. I don't think TSAMS would be as fun as it is, if it was 100% serious, and not originated as a gameplay/reaction channel. Like the first VRChat "lore" stuff was haha funny Monty scams Sun :), but then the "actual" lore came from the side, and seized us like a bear trap.

Like suddenly, Evil Dorito Man, and I've fallen in love, because the silliness was broken up a bit, but never forgotten. Like it was so fun, when Eclipse, an actual threat, appeared, and then it was more shenanigans! But those shenanigans included Mr. Big Evil Nacho Chip! And the overdramatic silliness continued! :D

The villains have always been overdramatic little (well, "little" in KC's case, lol) bitches! Remember in the first October Takeover, when Eclipse didn't allow Lunar to curse, but he also cursed? Or when KC did all his dramatic entrances, he was so dramatic even Monty had to tell him to stop being dramatic! Or Bloodmoon's dramatic pose on top of the tower before fighting Eclipse (did anyone actually animate the whole fight?), or any of his little baby tantrums? Or the entirety of Ruin (that one is a certified theatre kid, says so himself in the podcast)

TSAMS is such a fun thing, and it's so nice that they post so often (cuz I would be dying if they only posted once a week... imagine the cliffhangers), and we are lucky that they share their roleplay, cuz a lot of people don't, and there are probably other talents hiding in private roleplays, which never see the light of day. So many things we could be missing!

TSAMS is fun. It's goofy fanfic basically, with a serious side that came out of left field. And there are so many angry people on here, like what happened? Did I miss something?

As I wrote earlier, there is an IT company in Japan that can help eliminate the dangerous virus that infected Moon and Sun. The other three were sent there to see if they too were infected with this shit, and if they were infected, they asked them to destroy it for them as well. And Fredy Fazber's company doesn't care that their animatronics don't speak Japanese

Who do you meet there?

Sun -( I meet young man named Josuke and his mum, a tall guy Jotaro, Okuyasu and, and... and. . . That's all what I remember. Oh, right! I meet also an amazing programers from that company what they try to fix us! :D

Moon -(Teenager Josuke, who fix me after I get hit by wierd arrow and his mum. She's lovely in her way~ I meet girl who can move her hairs, it's weird but I like it. There's was some dwarf Koichi and talented manga writer Rohan. Of course I meet people from company that are destroying virus at my head and some others problems in ours codes. Oh! I meet, again, Bloodmoons they're now friends with Sun

Eclipse -(No one worthy of my attention. The only one who catched my eye are mr. Yoshikage Kira and young boy Josuke Higashikata. They have very intresting Stands~ Somehow I'd like to cooperate with them to saver gain my goal

Lunar -(Not much, becouse I'm Eclilse's Stand-thing and I can't go so far away from him... I meet a girl with moving hair and a manga writer Roham or something like this. I also meet a Josuke Higashikata and normal looking guy Youshikage Kira which make Eclipse happy just by looking at their powers from this Stand-thing

KC -(The same people who Moon meet.

How much personality?

Sun is smart, confident, brave, friendly and loyal, his likeable personality helps him make friends

Moon is righteous, though blunt individual. He is ruthless with his enemies but loyal to his companions. Moon is a rather cold and prideful animatronic

Eclispe is a despotic manipulator, often showing a lack of conscience or empathy. He has great ambitions and a lust for power. He set himself the goal of becoming the most powerful being on Earth. To achieve this, he is willing to use anyone and everything he can, ignoring morality that would only limit him <- from Dio || He is a serious and caring man (for, according to his criteria, important people). He is also very clever and very careful in his actions, looking for and choosing the safest ones before making a decision. However, it must be remembered that he is not an angel and when he is nervous he becomes quite aggressive and violent <- from Fugo

Blood- have a gentle heart and is loyal to those he likes. He is highly perceptive, wise and quick-witted. Blood is an extremely cool individual, able to keep his composure in even the direst situations. He usually remains the the most mature half of Bloodmoon

-Moon is a rough and choleric teenager who has quite childish behavior. He has a penchant for brutally simple actions that work surprisingly well at keeping his opponents off guard. Moon is almost as short-tempered as Eclipse, being quite loud, vulgar and violent in his outbursts. Despite his exuberant behavior, he shows a sweet side to those who get to know him. He values his friends above life and considers "friendship" to be the most precious thing in the world. Aware of his handicaps, Moon is willing to let Blood and Sun look after him. He usually remains the least mature half of Bloodmoon

KC doesn't care. (Let me quote here) ,,I don't care about 'living' or 'dying' or who's 'just' and who's 'evil'!! (...)"~ Johnny Joestar || He is an impulsive and brutal man with a good heart. He consistently shows his emotions when he's happy, he smiles, when he's sad he starts to cry. KC often acts on impulse and rarely takes the time to observe and analyze his opponent. He is a very curious person. This curiosity extends to the habit of trying to learn everything. He also has a confrontational and violent side. In battle, KC is very aggressive and qualified to land deadly blows <- from Okuyasu

Lunar is an abrupt, snappy with his elders (read: Eclipse), courageous and confident. He advocates aggressively asserting hisself, when his patience go out. Lunar is particularly violent in his fights by Eclipse's personality. He also has a vindictive side and repays tenfold any wrong committed against him

BONUS: How did you feel when you got off the plane?

Sun -( I got scared at first! I thought maybe I had a new glitch, but thanks to Eclipse, I realized that people there speak a different language. I don't know Japanese so I tried to talk using sign language. Some people understood me and helped me, all of them they were really nice!

Moon -(Ermm… I was shocked more by culture different than their weird sounds language. It wasn't bad, me and Sun used sign language to communicate with humans

Eclipse -(Hmmm… Honestly? I was scared… damn scared… *sigh* But!! I didn't show it to anyone and I was lucky enough to meet people who speak English~☆

Lunar -(For me it was normal, I knew Japan and Japanese from teenagers who sometimes came to our Daycare just to watch anime. It was weird for me, but I did it with them. I was really excited when I heard that we'll be transferred there! Now I'm not…

KAT'S 2022 YEAR REVIEW & THANK YOU NOTE

well hello there everyone. i'm not sure if this is still a thing this year because i haven't seen anyone doing this (or i just wasn't tagged in one at all sdjfkfkf) but that won't stop me from writing another year review and saying thank you to my wonderful internet friends!

at the end of last year i finally moved out of my parents house so i've been officially living alone for a whole year now and i'm proud to announce that i still live haha its not easy sometimes and it's hella expensive but i enjoy it nonetheless. i continued decorating and furnishing my apartment and it slowly but surely became my comfy little corner on this earth and im very proud of it :3

i know i said last year sucked and i was hoping for a better one in 2022 but boy oh boy was i wrong lmao

this year was shite. like utter shite. i didn't get a job that i enjoy doing or pays well BUT at least i still have a job lol the job sucks and sometimes i wanna jump out from the 3rd floor window but i managed to make wonderful friends among my colleagues so i'm definitely thankful for that. i only work there for 7 months but i already feel like we've known each for years and they definitely make working there bareable.

this year i also finally get to meet my bff (braincell for life), Ariana (@queenofthefaceless) in person and i am very much grateful for that. i'm sad no more meeting could happen in the rest of the year but maybe in the next one 😉❤

towards the end of the year i started working out again because i gained a little bit of weight and altough i became much more confident this year, it started to bother me so i'm proud of myself for not letting it slide and now i'm mostly focusing on getting my strength back i used to have instead of being the couch potato i was all year lol and one of my new years revolution for 2023 is to eat healthier and work out even more.

and yes i am still not over the fact that you guys putting out those wonderful fics for us for free. you still rock !! 💜💜

next year i will continue to hope for a better job, one that i enjoy and pays better (or at least one of these lol) and to be even more confident and open to new things ( and finding a rich husband 🙏)

I have a theory that Goose was the killer 30 years ago. Paul says that "he's back" and Rooster obvi looks like Goose and Paul being scared when he is being chased confuses Rooser for Goose. Rooser also says that his father died in a "freak car accident". What if it wasn't a car accident but the aftermath of the massacre and Rooster has become obsessed with the camp and wants to recreate it.

I did not take any cute pictures bc I always get really nervous before concerts sjsj!! but basically, it was super hot in KC so I knew I had to wear something I wouldn't die in!

so I wore a purple sports bra (like a cute ribbed, washed cotton one from Target) and a sheer iridescent shirt that was oversized for maximum airflow. then I wore my tried and true wide leg jeans and a pair of cowgirl booties! it was easy and kept me cool for the most part!

also this is my psa to everyone: the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray is a miracle worker. I sweated my fucking ass off (we were in the nosebleeds so like we were genuinely closer to the sun) and my makeup DID NOT MOVE! I had to SCRUB it off later!! and if you layer it like I did....it will stay on literally forever!

i've gotta recommend the love of my life, kc. i adore a lot of their ocs, but @endtown and @dumbthink really stand out to me. kc creates ocs so beautifully, and truly puts her all into developing a really solid and detailed backstory. i could read their biographies all day. not only that but i adore every single time they come to me and scream about their characters. each time they write a muse that characters unique voice always shines through <3

Hi nat, I don’t wanna sound like a hater but I’ve just been struggling sm lately bc I feel so disconnected to Taylor iykwim? Like she just seems unrecognizable and excuse the parasocialness but like idk I think I just need to separate from the fandom because I just feel she’s so different in the past year and it makes me so sad. Everything just seems somewhat staged and inauthentic. I really loved her and even considered her as my favorite person and lifesaver at some point. But that beautiful, genuine, and talented person that i thought she was is not there anymore. I really saw myself in her at some point and really believed she was a gift to this world with the happiness she brought to people and how she was unapologetically herself, from the intimate fan interactions and public vulnerability and need for privacy she showed compared to other celebrities. Especially the fact that she’s been trying so fiercely to rewrite the history of the past 7 years of her life and is doing a complete 180 on the life she said she wanted is so disheartening to watch as a long time fan. I really thought that rep - evermore Taylor was really her most authentic self but idek anymore. The person she is now is like an entirely different persona and it makes me really sad. I hope she can find herself again for her own sake but i think this is just who she is and who am I to judge that lmao? At the end of the day no person with that amount of money or fame would be relatable. Look I always have to remind myself I don’t know her obviously but I thought I had gotten a pretty good sense from following her the last 12 years. Idk honestly I’m just kinda ranting here but was wondering if anyone else felt like this lately. A lot of my irls and friends have been saying they feel the same disconnect.

She’s literally just some lady lmfao and she’s an extremely talented musician, and she’s hot, and she’s very funny, and she’s a good writer even when it comes to prose, and she’s hardworking as fuck, and she’s apparently quite kind, and she also apparently makes nice food, and she has cute handwriting. That’s all we really know about her tbh. She can’t be our fave person or our lifesaver because like we don’t know her?? It’s not fair to put that on her.

on a very minor scale when I did professional activism/politics and on an even more minor scale on this blog when it was very big like sometimes I felt like I had this responsibility to people to like idk be something for them. And I can’t lol because I’m just a girl who likes to make jokes and write and teach history and drink and recently to go rowing lol. It’s not fair to expect me to be anything other than an interesting essay (in the activism days) or a funny joke (in the blogging days). I can’t be responsible for other shit. Taylor has that on the HUGEST scale and I can imagine how stressful that is and it’s not yk fair. I personally think she’ll get bored of being this public in a bit but she’s having fun rn. She’s got a cute boyfriend and her career is doing stellar and she’s got the I cut down on alcohol glow and shit like let the lady live for a bit. She doesn’t owe us shit. And I’m not convinced she’s a different person, I think she’s just not caring if people see she’s yk who she is - not an angel, not a hermit artiste, just a girl who’s trying to vibe.

I also think for me personally I’ve enjoyed a lot of her recent music so that adds to it. I love Midnights and I love the 1989 Vault and idk I am happy to let her vibe like she doesn’t owe us shit. Far be it from me to tell you to buy her $20 teacups or whatever to sponsor her trips to KC - I don’t lol - but I think it’s deeply unfair to expect her to be your lifeline or whatever like that’s genuinely not on her.

All this said, if you’re not vibing with music or the brand rn that’s okay. Harry Potter was HUGELY important to me in my preteens and into my teens and then as it happened, it turned out that JKR was a really bad person and I reread the books genuinely for science and they weren’t that great like there was a lot there I found actively not okay so aside from how I wouldn’t publicly be a millennial Potterhead anyway probably because I’m not yk that bloody weird I actively disengaged and I asked family and friends to stop buying me Robert Galbraith books and I just like… disengaged. Never watched the cursed child, haven’t watched any of the fantastic beast movies after the first one, never bought any merch again even when it’s a bit cute, just totally cut myself off. That’s MY choice. It’s not JK’s. JK is out there vibing like as she should but I don’t have to support her and she doesn’t owe me shit lol so like yes our moral compasses unfortunately do not align and that’s just the reality so I can be all dramatic or I can just stop buying her shit lol and I’ve chosen to do the latter and I don’t have any bad feelings towards her. We just don’t agree on morals. If you don’t agree with Taylor on morals or even lifestyle that’s also fine but again that’s a you problem not a Taylor problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

As a producer first and an artist second, I mainly look for artists and songs that are what I refer to as "within the 4 chords" - a reference to the spaces just 'outside the box' If you place a square inside of a circle so that the corners of the square touch the inside edges of the circle, you end up with 4 semi-circular spaces surrounding the square. In the world of mathematics, each of these spaces is called a chord. I find that songs and artists that fit into these spaces - not middle-of-the-road pop-hit stuff, but also not way out there either. That is hard to find. That is what inspires me. It's not about genre. It's about finding a unique sound in a world full of copycats. When I find them. I jump at the opportunity to produce them. I started playing trumpet when I was around 8 years old. That was influenced by my grandfather, who was a big fan of Dixie-land jazz. As a reward for my tolerance of all that, she would let me pick a show from time to time that I wanted to see. I'm dating myself a bit here, but some of my first concerts were KC & The Sunshine Band, Iron Maiden, Kraftwerk, and Howard Jones - a crazy wide love of music across multiple genres. By my early teens, I had discovered electronic music. I studied music theory and composition at university. I have been writing and producing ever since. Are you from a musical or artistic family? Not really. There aren't any other musicians or artists in my family, but my parents and grandparents were massive fans of music. Their love of everything from jazz to rock really influenced me. It helped me understand that just because I don't 'like' a song or an artist doesn't mean it isn't good. It taught me to listen to everything with an open mind.

Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? My old friend Steve Thompson. He is also a musician and former band-mate. He reached out in 2020 during covid. We all had plenty of time on our hands, and he thought we should get a remote/virtual band together and record cover songs for fun. He called it 'The Distance Blues Project'. We recorded a few songs that summer. It forced me to get my 'chops' back on the keyboard. It inspired me to start writing again. This is when everything took off. I started meeting some really talented singers and other producers and working with them. I found that what I really loved was the technical aspect of music production. So I dove in head first. I'm still learning. Everyone is still learning. But after landing a song as a finalist in a pretty large songwriting competition, I gained a lot of confidence that I was good at it. This all started with a phone call from Steve in early 2020. How did you learn to sing/write/to play? I'm not proficient at playing any instrument. I can play just enough keys or guitar to accomplish what I need. I don't really sing much, but when I do, it's a style I developed a long time ago. I think I have a terrible voice. So I had to find a way to create a sound that would work and would sound cool. So, when I do sing, it sounds a bit like Trent Reznor but with more distortion. Mostly, I rely on working with other singers who can actually sing! What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? I'm dating myself again here! The first concert I ever attended was Barry Manilow because my mother used to take me to every Manilow show she could get to. But the first concert I ever bought a ticket to was KC & The Sunshine Band. My first record was a gift from my grandparents: Johnny Cash's 'Live at San Quentin.' I have a huge love of music across all genres. How could you describe your music? 'Secret Place' with Human Without Gravity, for a moment. Lieselotte (Human Without Gravity) writes melancholic pop music about being human and the disappointment that often comes with being human. She's very introspective. With songs like 'Greed', 'Drinking Tea With Demons', 'Storm' and 'Secret Place', she has a voice that pulls you in and makes you listen to what she has to say. Describe your creative process. I always start a song with a beat or melody that I love. Then I build around it. When I create something that seems to be working, I'll then start thinking about the subject matter, lyrics, etc. and build out the rest of the production. Depending on how the song evolves, the genre, etc. I'll then start looking for a singer. Or, in the case of my personal projects as Darren Vader or dilemma sect, I'll record the vocals myself. Man, it's so rhythmic and soothing. The same thing happens in the forest. I love sitting alone in the forest. The wind flows through the trees. It's truly musical; and magical. Those are the times that I come up with the best ideas. What musician do you admire most and why? This is a tough one. I admire so many. But right now I;d have to say it's a tie between Post Malone and Tayler Swift. Yes, both in the pop genre. or country. I guess that depends on the day of the week. But that's what I love and admire about them. Post Malone was able to to bring his fans into hip-hop, pop, and country music all at the same time. I really love that he doesn't have to pigeon hole himself into a single genre. he's teaching listeners that genre doesn't really matter. I think that is awesome.

Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career? Absolutely. My early songs sucked so bad. I mean really bad. And the production. wow. so bad. And it was very stiff and electronic. I learned to produce with a more human feel as I developed my own sound as a writer and performer. I started listening to everything. For a while, I couldn't figure out how to rectify my love of everything and turn it into a production process that made any sense. But now I think I am figuring that out and am developing a production style that I like. Who do you see as your main competitor? I don't think about 'competition' at all. Everyone is unique and everyone brings something great to the table. So I don't think about it as competition. In fact, collaboration is the key in today's music industry. If you are collaborating and making friends in the industry, you probably won't get very far. It's not just about business either. It's about human connection and understanding that we all have great things within us. Everyone has a unique view that can make a project great. What are your interests outside of music? I love to travel. I love meeting people and experiencing new cultures and ways of life. I also love college football and motorsports. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? I'd probably be a magician or a circus clown. Maybe a river rafting guide or an interior decorator. So many possibilities! What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? Income. It's really hard to make a living in the music business. It's become a lot harder with the advent of streaming services and the lowering of the attention spans of the younger folks. Everything with the fans who buy music is increasingly driven by social media. They don't seem to be experimenting with new music nearly as much as I did when I was younger. They prefer to only listen to what their friends are also listening to. This makes it harder to build a fan base and breakthrough as a new artist. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? I would get rid of music streaming. I hope to work with Human Without Gravity on another project very soon. in the mean time I am working on an EP with London-based artist Shea, an acoustic EP with Louisiana-based singer Richard Guidry, a couple of upcoming tracks with Florida-based singer Melanie Joy Wilpon, recording a new album with my alter ego 'dilemma sect' and focusing on projects for TV and film. Do you have any artistic collaboration plans You bet. I am always collaborating. I have projects in the works with Shea, Richard Guidry, Melanie Joy Wilpon, Okafuwa, Robbie Rosen, and Alessa, among others. I thrive on collaborations. I had to give this a thought. It's very hard to come up with just 10. I could easily do a part II. 😂 But without further ado, and in no particular order, 10 of my favorite KC fics:

. The Parisian Deal by Borzoi

I honestly vary between The Parisian Deal and Paradise Lost as my favorite Borzoi fics. It depends. I think I'm in my Parisian Deal era, though. I've recced this a few times over the last few months, whenever someone's asked me for my favorites or humanity-less Caroline fics. For me, this is the best one that comes to mind. Borzoi's fics are all brilliant. I love their writing style to bits. It reads like a novel, it draws in and it grips you by the throat until the very end. This one features Klaus being called to the rescue by a desperate Salvatore clan when Caroline turns off her humanity and fucks off to Europe. Unlike her friends, Klaus doesn't threaten her, doesn't try to force her to feel; instead, he offers her a deal. And it's perfect. I love this story with my whole heart, I can't even tell you.

. In the Backseat by Lila2

After leaving Hayley as a wolf in the Bayou and earning the hatred of his entire family, Klaus shows up with baby Hope on Caroline's doorstop. He has no idea what to do with a baby, is too proud to apologize and is in desperate search of some validation, which invariably leads her back to her (just like in 5x11). Caroline is torn between being mad at him for having a baby with freaking Hayley, and also the fact that she loves kids and there's a part of her that resents him precisely because he gets to have them, when she never will. In her own way, Caroline puts him in his place and convinces him to make amends and go home, take Hope back to her mother - but only if she comes with him on the road trip. And boy, is it worth it. 🥰 It's a fic that has the baby as a catalyst for everything, at the center of everyone's woes in different ways, but it's not about the baby, in case you're a baby fic hater. And the writing is just chef's kiss.

. the birth and death of the day by @little-miss-sunny-daisy

For a good while there, this fic was my entire fandom personality. Whenever anyone gave me a second of their time, I'd preach about the birth and death of the day. I was obsessed. Kelly is a brilliant writer, so, so, so talented. I am not kidding when I saw I wish I could write like her. And the greatest proof of that is how this fic was everything to me, in spite of not being at all my cup of tea on the tin. I don't like Supernatural, I never watched more than two episodes, and the Klaroline bit here kind of takes on a secondary role to the end of the of the world. But it's such an intense and brilliant character study on Caroline that it had my whole heart from the start. Her relationship with her BROTHERS Dean and Sam is so heartfelt, and it exposes so much of who Caroline really is as a character. The plot is INSANE and AMAZING and HUGE and it's so incredible how it ties in so seamlessly with the Mystic Falls shenanigans. And then there is Klaus! When I saw secondary, I don't mean irrelevant. I just mean there's more to the story than just their relationship. But it is still brilliantly developed. Honestly, just writing about it brings me back memories. I love it so much.

. Quiet Light by @definedareasofuncertainty

I am biased when it comes to Luiza's fics because I'm a fangirl and I have been one since day one, before we even became friends. But in the years (years 🥲 we have been here so long, friend) we have known each other, her writing has only gotten better and better. It's atmospheric and understated and it has this mindfulness about it that I can't really explain. It really feels like being in the characters' stream of thinking, you get instantly pulled into it. It evokes emotions without it ever having to be minutely described, and I think that's such an incredible talent. I wish I could write like this! And Quite Light not only brings all of those things forward, but it also brings COMPLEXITIES and MORAL QUARRELLS and it was also WRITTEN FOR ME. 😌✨ Luiza thought she was getting revenge on me by torturing Elijah, but LITTLE DID SHE KNOW I actually loved it. I went into this thinking it would be just a rom-com style story (which I love), but it's so much more. By the end I was crying real tears. 🥲 It becomes such a beautiful story about the relationship between Klaus and Elijah. Honestly brilliant.

Honestly, this fic has a very specific target audience, and that target audience is ME. I'm not even exaggerating; this is one my favorite pieces of fic ever written in the KC fandom. The way a Klarolijah fic speaks to me can be so personal. 🥺 I love the Klarolijah dynamic. I really do. But it takes a very specific balance for me to feel it. It can very easily go from me loving it, to me wanting to throttle someone. And this! THIS!! This is absolutely it. 🥲 And it's just about my favorite thing ever. This is actually three mini drabbles combined into one. Each of them is written through a different POV - Klaus', Elijah's and Caroline's. And the combination of all three, the way they tell the same story through different eyes, is just !!!!!!!!! Honestly, I don't have words. This has ✨Yokan my beloved✨ written all over it and I feel it very much. Luiza has a ridiculous talent for writing things on the spot. She got prompted to write an Elijah piece, and then a Caroline piece, and then a Klaus one, and she wrote them all in like 30 minutes on one of her mini drabbles challenge, and OH MY FUCKING GOD. I hate her for how good she is. 😭 (I don't, I love her, but I also v much envy her talent).

I spent a solid few minutes here thinking about which of Hannah's fics I wanted to list, because she has this huge catalogue and I've basically read all of them and have gushed over almost every single one over the years. But even though there are others that could easily be in my top 10, I always end of going back to This is a Harvest. I remember when I first read it, I closed the tab at the end and was just… Done. Not in a 'I can't stand this story/ship/fandom anymore', but in a 'this is the fic to end all fics' kind of way. And it's not so much about the style or the writing, which are both stunning, but the way the story is told. It's a canon divergence that spans over years and I felt it in my heart that this was where the story could've gone. The choices they could've made. The way Caroline's story could and should have ended. And I was satisfied. I started writing and reading KC fanfiction after TO was over because I was so indignant about the way the show ended, so unhappy that I needed to give it my own spin, and read other folks doing the same, and when I read this story I felt like I had achieved that. This is it, I can put this to rest.

Obviously, I was way too deep by then that I couldn't really abandon the fandom (even though, just between us here, I kind of wish I could), but for a whole week or two, I was at peace. This fic gave me peace. That's it.

"But Yokan, how would you like to see Klaus' part in Legacies play out?" Like this. Exactly like this. This story accepts the finale we were dealt in The Originals, and then makes something absolutely amazing with it. I love the premise, I love the mythology involved, I love how unique this take is, and I love how even though it's poignant and bittersweet, it still packs up everything about Kc that made me love this ship so much. Caroline has been in Europe for years trying to find a way to help her daughters with their Gemini situation, and then she ends up stumbling across something else entirely. While she thought the thing she most wanted to see on a brief stint on the Other Side would be Gemini witches, her heart betrays her by taking her to who she really misses the most.

This story is so old school it was written before Steroline. It's about Tyler. But we all know who Caroline ends up marrying, so in my heart, this is really what happens before Caroline marries Stefan. And honestly, it works just as well. This story is a punch to your stomach, but it is PERFECTION in 8k words. It's hot, it's bittersweet, it's SO in character. Caroline's denial, telling herself that Klaus is there to see her because he still ones revenge on Tyler, when it becomes very obvious, very fast, as it always does on the show, that it's never about Tyler, it's all about her. UGH. Honestly, brilliant. (third fic on this list with a The National reference on the title, I SENSE A PATTERN).

I had never in my life read a genie!AU, and simply could not wrap my mind around anything of the sort that wouldn't be extreme crack!fic. Imagine my surprise upon reading this story. It's bittersweet in the best possible way. At the same time it's endearing and adorable (and so very IC) to watch Caroline fumbling for a fair and non-insane way to handle Klaus, the genie Katherine accidentally gifted her with (and who just happens to look incredibly alluring), it's so very poignant to read Klaus' POV. He's Klaus in the way that he's suspicious and dismissive and kind of snobbish, really, but he's resigned to his fate. This is a Klaus who has been broken by years of enslavement as this prop who's there exclusively to serve others. Every time he mentions one of his past masters, you just get that stab - and so does Caroline. Laine is one of the most prolific and talented KC writers ever, and I have read and enjoyed so, so many of her fics, but this definitely has a special place in my heart.

. Psychedelic Kicks by @notalittlebutalottie

This is an ensemble story that has Klaroline at heart, but that gives every other character a moment to shine. And shine they do! Everyone gets their own side stories, and absolutely loved following every single one of them. Lottie made me care for characters I hate in canon, like Katherine and Kol. Even Stefan and Elena had my heart here. This fic is a journey, full of ups and downs, and it has such a satisfying end. It's also incredibly original in its setting and tone, which I think it's one of Lottie's greatest talents. It's very are for historical fics to be set in the 60s, and not only did Lottie choose this very particular time, but she also did such a remarkable job incorporating the decades' aspects into the story. Not just the fashion, and the music, and Woodstocky vibes, but the social and political unrest as well. This is a story with LAYERS, my friends, and it's incredible. I could totally see this being a TV show or a movie tbh. It's that good.

aw bless, i understand. fandom can be intimidating, especially ones that are active and considering you didn’t watch tvd when kai first appeared, i can see why it would be daunting to write a fic. with that being said i love all human AUs for bonkai and a You inspired fic would be *chefs kiss*. and honestly i’m always here for any bonnie ship but the reason i ask about that particular one is because i truly felt like the writing was heading in that direction but a certain showrunner got wind and changed gears. the potential for any bonnie fic is there but idk something about bonkai always felt like it was supposed to work and we’d get a fleshed out, dark bonnie plus the chemistry and dynamic between the two would have worked very well. but as usual the writers couldn’t let my girl have shit. plus, they would have really fit the enemies to lovers trope tbh

Right! Most of the time the fandom is really gracious so it might not even be necessary to worry. But I still have some hang ups and even though the Bamon fic I posted went over well I will never forget the pressure I felt to make Bamon endgame for my fic The Gods of Viriginia because of how vocal people were. I think it might be easier if I'm writing for just that pairing as insatiable got mostly postive feedback but then I also got feedback saying it wasn't dark enough. Lol So you can't please everyone tbh.

Though I wasn't actively watching when Bonkai was onscreen I did watch the scenes as I said and do think they would've fit the enemies to lovers trope. The problem with TVD in terms of Bonnie was that any time she got any attention or any pairing gained traction with the fandom it was shot down by JP and even if they had write themselves into a corner, sacrifice plot and continuity, or ruin someone's characterization to not go with a story or pairing for Bonnie or to give it to one of the other female leads instead they did it. That's why Klaus's character was sacrificed for KC, that's why DE was drawn out for so long even though Bamon had better chemistry and the story would've naturally developed there, and that's why Kai was killed off in the manner that he was. And JP had no problem with doing the bare minimum to capitalize on the Bonnie fandom's viewership so we got things the Bamon friendship and breadcrumb scenes for pairings like Klonnie, Kennett, and Bonkai. But when it came to actually pairing Bonnie off on the show they only ever did that when they wanted to keep a character on screen and relevant but didn't have anyone else to tie them to so they stuck them with Bonnie, which was why we got B*remy and B*nenzo. But anyway JP and TPTB on TVD didn't care about organic storytelling and definitely didn't care about story at all when it came to Bonnie outside of her suffering or providing a magic fix it when everyone else was in need.

Moving on, you should definitely watch the film Beast if you get a chance. It's so good! As for the You AU, I think it fits well, the problem with Joe though is his insane inner monologue and I wouldn't be able to sit in that head for an entire fic. I think if I tackled it, it'd be sort of how I did Notes on a Scandal, with the inner monologue being in snippets that break up the actual story narrative that's told in third person. I've thought about it a lot actually and I see Bonnie as a sort of composite character as a combination of all of Joe's love interests. Because I can see a bit of her in Beck, that need to be loved and that desire to be seen and wanted. But there's also and edge that Candace has and I could see in a AU Bonnie being an aspiring musician because of Kat's talent. Also I could see Bonnie sort of cultivating this outside image that hides and inner darkness the way that Love does and I always like to play around with Dark!Bonnie, and their sort of frantic love/hate cat and mouse thing would fit Bonkai as well. I could also see Bonkai having a sort of affinity for one another and points of connection the way that Joe does with Marienne. It'd be a hard one to tackle but I do feel like it'd fit. I've brainstormed about it more than once. Not sure if I'll ever actually write it but it'd be a fun one to try.
