Ichiban Kasuga

A perfect date for Ichiban would be a little of everything. Something to drink, something to eat, and something to do are his big three requirements. He's not picky about certain places, it's the time spent with someone that matters most.

Tianyou Zhao

Honestly, his dream would be to do some kind of cooking date. Maybe taking a cooking class together or teaching each other favorite recipes. Please don't think it's his ego but he'd also love to just cook an entire meal for you. If he can't have a cooking date, then trying a super cool, new, or innovative restaurant is also a good choice.

Joon-Gi Han

He kind of has no clue? He more so has a list of things he hasn't really tried that once he has a romantic partner would be fun to try with them. One big thing is he really wants to go to an amusement park!

Hasn't got a specific casual perfect date but would love to have a date at a traditional festival. In a serious romantic relationship, one of his bucket list items is to take a trip with his S/O, either domestic or international.

Man's as classic as they come: dinner, drinks, then karaoke. Maybe some darts in between. It may sound casual and cheap but nothing means more to Adachi than just letting loose and having a good time.

Is it too obvious of him to say going to the beach is his ideal date? Well, even if it makes him sound painfully Hawaiian, it's true. Whether it's just the two of you chilling on the beach or playing with water guns in the waves, man's an islander through and through. Oh, and you two need to get shaved ice, obviously! He knows just the place.

Saeko Mukoda

Any cafe is great for a date in Saeko's mind, but if you manage to take her to a cafe she's never been to, that'll really impress her. Even better if it's one that's more high end or brand new, someplace that she hasn't been able to go to casually either due to price or the lines being long. Of course, a strawberry dessert is a must!

Like Joon-Gi, she doesn't have a specific type of date in mind but more of a list of thing she'd like to try with a partner. Anything that's a bit of a challenge is fun for her, so something she's never seen or done before is just a good place to start. Plus, it'll show her how well you know her. Taking her on a day trip to a famous landmark like Mt. Fuji is a good example.

Last week, so much happened. Kasuga and Nomoto finally expressed how they feel to each other and have begun dating. Also, since Kasuga's aunt gave her dad her address, Kasuga has decided to move and asked Nomoto to move with her. Nagumo admitted her anxieties around food, and had become Kasuga's confidant. Kasuga and Nomoto also discussed how out they want to be.

Episode 13

I absolutely love opening on Yako and Nagumo being given the update on the relationship progress. It's what they deserve.

Hell yes! Assemble the whole squad for the house party! Is Sayama coming too??

A curry party with naan and lassi actually sounds incredible. I need to host one.

I don't have a lot of friends who also enjoy cooking together, so it's rare I get to work with others except my uncle or mom in the kitchen.

I love that Nagumo wants to participate and try things!

Nagumo having some ice cream feels like a small but important bit of progress.

This party was a total success. Few social experiences are better than successfully blending friend groups.

Episode 14

I want to unpack the sales pitch of beer and marshmallows. Please discuss this in the notes. I think I prefer kick drums and red wine.

First a curry party and now a marshmallow party. This show is a treat.

I really hope that Nagumo actually finds help when she goes to the hospital. Pacing this so that we see her enjoying her time around meals with people so this can be a way for her to participate more has been a good choice.

I love, love, love Kasuga admitting she doesn't have much experience with dating and wanting to talk it through with a friend first. It's hard being queer sometimes because sometimes you just don't get a lot of dating experience in your teens.

Hey, a decent doctor. I am relieved that he gave Nagumo a name for what she may potentially be experiencing, and proposed finding solutions together based on his medical experience and knowledge. I remember being relieved when they finally diagnosed me with my own issues, because now we could treat it.

Unexpected Yako and Nagumo outing! Let's fucking go!!

This show is so kind. I love this because I find that I have decent neighbors almost everywhere I go. My neighbor's kids and my other neighbors' grandkids always run up to tell me about their days when I get home, and we often share kitchen gizmos. Just last week I helped one of the kids with some of their math homework after helping remove junk from his grandmother's shed. Their grandma made me this really nice brownie as a reward.

Yako is awesome. I'm so happy Nagumo stumbled into a group of friends to support her.

Episode 15

Yes! I want to see a strawberry picking date! The festival is coming up in another month and a half here!

I like this work lunch. Even though our pair is together, I am glad we're still checking in with Sayama's experience in the dating pool with men.

How are they going to look for a new place to live when it seems like it's always dark when they get home? This conversation about the physical, emotional, and financial realities of moving was necessary.

This is super cool. I kinda love that they allow folks to experience a part of how their food is made.

Hell yes! We're talking it out! It actually can be really difficult when two accommodating people are together.

Looking for housing has gotta be difficult in a city that doesn't provide an overabundance of parking like the US. Trying to find a place that's in walking distance to a station that also has parking is probably going to be impossible.

Yako is right, as usual, but now I'm nervous about this big talk.

I'm so happy that Yako and Nagumo are friends, that Nagumo is starting treatment, and our ladies are navigating their relationship together with open communication. Super excited about the potential move next week, and maybe their first kiss.

Episode 4: Things Slowly Change...

So, I was re-watching Episode 4 yesterday. I did a silly livetweet session that involved mostly gushing over expressions and stuff, but I was pointing out how this episode really is a pivotal one for the relationship between Nomoto and Kasuga. An early pivot, so to speak, but things definitely start to change during this episode and onward.

One part I didn't actually tweet about was when they were enjoying the pudding and have a personal conversation...

This was after the trip, after prepping the pumpkin pudding and enjoying it. It was a quieter time, a time to reflect what happened earlier.

Kasuga was always one for budgeting and efficiency: Buying food on sale, owning only the basic needs, shortcuts that cut down on mileage.... But... something about today, she wanted to try something different. A more leisurely route along the beach. At the market, they enjoyed some ice cream and Nomoto proposed hanging out more often BEYOND their agreement of cooking and eating. Someone wants to actually spend time with Kasuga?? FUN time?? This thought lingers in the back of her mind because, when they got back to the apartments, she eyed that pumpkin with some consideration. Almost like... she didn't quite want their time together to end yet.

In all of this, Kasuga didn't show any reason why she wanted to do the things she did. She even looked a little unsure herself during the farmer's market scenes! I think it took her some quiet time - that time they waited for the pudding to settle - to actually think about it. And that's when she starts that convo in the photoset above, finishing it off with this line:

...which gets Nomoto thinking as well!

Now, Nomoto already had some inkling of a desire since the first episode, and something started to click by Episode 2, but it was them actually going out together that really started to bring out more feelings from Nomoto. She was the one that asked if they could do more things together earlier that day. Very awkwardly, I may add, heh:

Even before this, she was fretting over what to wear for the trip, looking up advice (that didn't help since it was all for het couples), and here she brings up the question almost like a proposal. Almost. Then she does her infamous nervous babbling.

It's, like, deep down, she knows what she wants (friendship at this point), but she doesn't want to sound weird and doesn't want to lose the first connection she's had in a LONG TIME. This even goes to later events like Christmas and Valentine's Day... But she WANTS to say these things, and sometimes, they just come out. Nomoto has a tendency to let her emotions out, even if she holds back a bit. She WANTS to see Kasuga more. This isn't just a bargain about cooking and eating big dishes anymore. This is about spending more time together and enjoying it, together!

But she didn't really put everything together until Kasuga said her own thoughts. They were acting different because they were hanging out with one another.

Why? They aren't quite sure yet. Yes, you can say something like "I guess it was because I was doing this thing with you," and not immediately think "because I want to be your friend" right off the bat, especially later in life. School-aged, you're taught the beginnings of socialization, you're encouraged to make friends and work together, etc. After you graduate, it's more about that working together in your jobs and raising a family, and with the latter, that has never been on either ladies' minds. Work-wise? Coworkers are not your friends. They are your cohorts, the other folks that help make the job run smoothly.

So, what DOES that make them?....is what they're both wondering individually. You can see it in their faces, their expressions, even within this episode (pics are when Kasuga said her version of the "It was because of you" line):

Nomoto is ahead of this path, though. She knows she wants friendship.... Or something like that, but she's too shy to admit that's what she wants at her age. She cherishes her friendships from childhood and is still devastated to this day how she lost them. And now, Kasuga has come into her life and it's looking bright again.

As for Kasuga, while not confirmed, I always got this feeling she never had any friends, even when she was younger. She's always been a loner...I'm sure even this blossoming relationship with Nomoto is something she's completely new to. A lot of it would be new grounds to navigate, but Nomoto is patient with her, and it seems like she'll do fine if she continues to just be herself.

We know how it develops, but it's really fun looking back and figuring out how they were thinking/feeling at that point in time!

Chitose had swum out further than she was allowed (attracting the yells of a lifeguard), Tomizawa had disappeared to buy shaved ice and Adachi was fast asleep. His deep snores weren't the ideal beach ambience, but Ichiban found himself oddly soothed.

He turned back to his sand art, grinning as he compared it to Joon-gi's. There were certainly differences in their creative processes- he was heaping sand over Adachi's legs, while Joon-gi was sculpting the minute details of a castle turret. The hitman's brow was pulled tight in focus as he added touches and flourishes to his creation.

"You know, sometimes it's fun to be mediocre," Ichiban told him, as he covered Adachi's knees with a fresh layer of sand. "We're making sandcastles, dude. You can skip out on measuring the exact dimensions of your moat."

"I think we have different standards for our art, Kasuga-san," Joon-gi said, giving his handiwork a wicked side-eye. "I take these things seriously."

"There's not much you don't take seriously, Han-chan," Ichiban sighed. Giving up on his burial of Adachi, he lay on his side, examining Joon-gi's intricate sand palace. "Well, if you ever want to put this thing on the market, I know two very friendly lesbians looking for a place to settle."

"I'm not sure your crawfish can afford this kind of real estate. Try over there."

He gestured at a nearby child's shapeless mound of sand. Ichiban gaped in mock indignation- and for once, Joon-gi couldn't keep a straight face.

Ichiban took secret glee in watching him melt. Each unexpected laugh was a jolt to his stomach. Unfortunately, this one was drowned out by a particularly loud snore from Adachi- next time, Ichiban was going to bury him head-first.

3 Ships You Like: Currently, I am still basking in the warmth and kindness of Kasuga and Nomoto from She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat (probably going to be stuck there for a while ngl).

I am also still quietly invested in Zorro x Luffy from the One Piece Live Action, in a way I haven’t been since I read the first two dozens volumes of One Piece about… twenty years ago …

And I have restarted Khun Chai so the itch is back for Tian and Jiu.

First Ship Ever:

Not sure about first ship ever, but I saw something about Peach Girl the other day, and I was reminded of how hard it was for me to decide if I wanted her to end with Toji or Okayasu lol (this and Evangelion were my first manga ever)

Otherwise in the first ones, there is GaaLee from Naruto I guess. I think that’s the first story where I really started shipping/writing and reading fics/and swapping the characters around.

Favorite Childhood Book:

I used to read so much (where has all that reading time gone etc…) so it changed often. But I was a huuuuge fan of Artemis Fowl (he was a genius! And a villain! And he loved his mom!! and Holy was so badass!).

There was also a french SF series for kids, Kerri et Megane, that I loved SO much (they were ‘orphans’ who in the first volume hide in a spaceship to try to find Kerri’s parents), and it had gorgeous illustrations and I was obsessed.

Currently Reading:

I am in a terrible reading slump I’m afraid. I need to finish Love in the Big City (part 3 kinda broke my heart so I’m having trouble getting back on the saddle), as well as Flux by Jinwoo Chong, and I have started Textual Poachers by Henry Jenkins. So instead of reading any of that, I restarted Escalier C by Elvire Murail – that I have read a dozen times already but what can you do.

Currently watching:

Same thing, I guess. Things are going slow here too. Week to week I am keeping up with Sukiyanen kedo do yaro ka and 23.5 degrees (yes yes there is only one episode out but it still counts). I am also slooooowly catching back up on Ossan’s Love Returns, Kamen Rider Revice, and Pale Moon, as well as working my way through Leverage (I’m halfway through season 4). And I am binging Khun Chai again right now, for comfort.

Currently consuming:

I just finished a cassoulet (sponsored by my brother who seems to always worry that I will forget the taste of French food and sent me home with cans of food this year) and am eating a yogurt to top it off.

Currently craving:

Some sushis (unattainable) and some mango ice cream (more attainable once I go grocery shopping I guess).

As someone who has a pet cat, hell to the yea we can do this. I visited a lot of cat cafes in college too before I got my cat and I love them! I even live near a bookstore with live in cats hehe, so yes you may have cat headcanons. Thanks for ur patience, mwah.

Kazuma Kiryu

Pretty reverant when it comes to animals and kind of lets the cats come to him. Can't get enough of seeing how happy you are to be here though. More than content to just sit back and smile as he watches you play with the kittens.

Majima Goro

Zero clue what to do around pets, ever. Doesn't matter what kind of pet. He's not scared of animals but he just doesn't know what they like or dislike. Gets pretty giddy when an animal responds positively, saying something like "Ah, ya like chin scratches do ya?" when a cat starts to purr, looking at you proudly.

Saejima Taiga

Very gentle and respectful of animals and pretty decent at reading their body language. Nothing is as cute as seeing Saejima sit gently holding the tiniest kitten in the whole cafe in his lap, lightly petting its head and smiling.

Akiyama Shun

Fond of fluffy cats in particular and will coo at them about how beautiful their long fur is. Kittens are iffy for him, he's kind of worried he'd step on them? For some reason? Loves watching you play with them though.

Tanimura Masayoshi

Loves animals, especially the kittens. Engages with the string or stick toys a lot and makes little mews back at the kittens when they talk to him. Would even get down on the ground just to be at the cat's level.

Ryuji Goda

More of a dog person but the ice starts to break once a kitten tries to clumsily climb its way over his broad shoulders. He's annoyed for a split second before seeing how happy the moment makes you. From then on, he's steady as a mountain as the kitten fumbles its way from his right shoulder to his left. Maybe he can get into this cat thing after all?

Nishikiyama Akira

Kind of follows your lead, although he does love to give the cats treats. He does this cute thing where he'll pick out two cats that are most like the two of you.

Daigo Dojima

Didn't have pets growing up so he's pretty unfamiliar with what to do around cats. It's quite adorable to see the sixth chairman of the Tojo Clan gingerly hold his hand out for a curious cat to sniff, eventually gently scratching behind the cat's ears and gently smiling to himself.

Mine Yoshitaka

Not much of an animal person but he does love to admire the elegant appearance of a cat. Doesn't really go for kittens much and won't do much playing but does like to find a nice spot to sit next to a calmer adult cat, especially one that's sleeping, and just gently stroking its fur in silence.

Tatsuo Shinada

Something about this man just attracts kittens. They'll just kind of swarm him the second he sits down. Maybe it's his jovial attitude but they just want to play with him from the moment he walks in. He kind of just laughs through it, amused by their little meows.

Ichiban Kasuga

Literally love at first sight with every cat he sees. Adores animals and thinks each one is a precious angel. Would forgive a cat for biting him on the face, actually. Out of all the boys, he's the most likely to suggest a neko cafe date himself.

Tianyou Zhao

Likes to just sit and bap a ball around on the floor for the cats to chase. All smiles throughout the date, just has a grand time in general. Would give each cat a little kiss on the head if he could.

Joon-Gi Han

Has known about cat cafes for a while but never really got to go to one, mostly due to his line of work. Just kind of takes it all in, watching the cats play and enjoying a warm drink all while smiling a little to himself. This is nice. He could get used to doing things like this with you more often.

You know German shepherd puppies? That’s literally Ichi. Super loyal, super energetic and super cute. Hell, he even has the hair. The mannerisms, too. He tilts his head when he is confused like a puppy would and it’s adorable. Of course he is also super affectionate, even out in public if you let him. He’s missed out on so much romantic action his whole life, and it’s not that he is trying to overcompensate or anything, but now that he finally has it, he is practically bouncing off the walls with excitement.

He won’t force you to get along with the Ichigang, but he would love it if you got along with them and he could invite you over to hang out with them. He might be a little uneasy introducing you to Saeko at first, considering he used to have a crush on her and the failed proposal and all that—but to be honest, she doesn’t care. Are you making Ichiban happy? Are you treating him right? Yeah? Then it’s all cool. Don’t you dare break his poor heart though, or else she will take matters into her own hands. And so will the rest of the Ichigang, for that matter; Ichiban may be an idiot, but he has a heart of gold. He doesn’t deserve any more bad things happening to him.

Still a little clumsy when it comes to planning dates, so it will fall on you most times. He has fun pretty much doing anything with you though: ice cream dates, walks on Hamakita Park, shopping, eating out, just grabbing drinks. You name it, he likes it. This man is just so happy to have you by his side, he doesn’t care what you do so long as he gets to spend time with you.

Super eager to please in bed. Your pleasure comes first, then comes his own. He loves a good blowjob as much as the next guy, but if he had to pick, he would choose to finger you or go down on you instead—his beard tickles when he eats you out, but it’s a nice type of itch.
