Character's Backstory:

Kassandra Shepard, was sixteen, when Mindoir was attacked, she, her family, neighbours, and friends were tortured by slavers who inflicted the greatest atrocities to break them physically and mentally. Kassandra's parents sacrificed their lives to give her a chance to escape, allowing her to find refuge among the soldiers who had arrived to try to stop the situation.

Some were saved, many died, and too many were taken by the slavers. This trauma turned Kassandra Shepard into an extremely empathetic person towards the suffering of others. Determined never to feel vulnerable again and to be able to defend herself and those around her, two years later she enlisted in the Alliance military, dedicating herself entirely to her training and career.

Early in her military career, Kassandra Shepard found herself confronted with a formidable enemy force. When Batarian Slavers attacked Elysium, Shepard made her stand. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against her, she fearlessly took action to save the local citizens and achieve victory.

In a display of extraordinary bravery and heroism, Kassandra led her comrades into battle, demonstrating exceptional tactical skills and resilience. She fought relentlessly, refusing to back down in the face of adversity.

With each act of valor, she inspired those around her and rallied her troops, igniting a sense of unity and purpose among the soldiers. Kassandra's unwavering courage and selfless actions did not go unnoticed. Her exceptional feats on the battlefield earned her the respect and admiration of her fellow soldiers and superiors alike. The Alliance fleet recognized her extraordinary achievements by bestowing upon her numerous medals and accolades, including the Star of Terra. But the most important achievement, was the step taken that day to overcome the sense of survivor's guild, she feels since her parent's death.

These honours not only serve as a testament to Kassandra's exceptional bravery, but they also symbolize the profound impact she had on the outcome of the mission. Her actions not only saved lives but also instilled hope and inspired others to persevere in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Kassandra Shepard's unwavering commitment to her fellow soldiers and her ability to defy impossible odds have solidified her as a true hero within the Alliance fleet. Her story continues to inspire and motivate those who hear it, serving as a shining example of valor, selflessness, and the indomitable spirit of humanity in the face of adversity.

The mission had barely commenced when tragedy struck. Corporal Jenkins, a promising and spirited young soldier, fell victim to an enigmatic swarm of unidentified drones.

Suppressing her own grief, Shepard mustered her inner fortitude, determined to provide solace and inspiration to Lieutenant Alenko, who stood shaken by the untimely demise of Jenkins. In Jenkins, they had lost a comrade who possessed an unquenchable thirst for greatness and a genuine zest for adventure. Despite moments of immaturity, he carried dreams of grandeur within him, aspirations that were now forever unfulfilled. His youthful spirit and unbridled potential were tragically cut short, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew him.

As Shepard and Alenko pushed forward, their resolve unyielding, they stumbled upon a chilling scene of desperation. Amidst a fierce gunfight, they discovered the last survivor of the 212 unit, valiantly holding her ground against two relentless Geth adversaries. Without hesitation, Shepard and Alenko rushed to her aid, combining their skills and determination to turn the tide in their favour. Through coordinated teamwork, they managed to overcome the immediate threat and provide a momentary respite for the beleaguered survivor.

With a brief pause to catch their breath, the trio regrouped and pressed onward. As they ventured deeper into the heart of the conflict, a haunting sight unfolded before their eyes. Civilians, once vibrant and full of life, were now impaled on grotesque alien spikes, their organic forms replaced by macabre amalgamations of flesh and technology. These once-innocent beings had been transformed into soulless abominations, driven solely by a sinister impulse to annihilate all that remained living.

Shepard, Alenko, and Williams stood rooted in shock and disbelief, their hearts heavy with sorrow and rage. The depth of the tragedy was overwhelming, and the sight of these empty husks served as a chilling reminder of the twisted capabilities of their merciless adversaries.

Driven by a shared sense of purpose and the weight of the lives lost, Shepard, Alenko, and Williams steeled themselves for the arduous task ahead. Each step taken was a testament to their resilience and unwavering dedication to protect the innocent. As they braced themselves for the battles to come, they vowed to honor the fallen by putting an end to the reign of terror inflicted by these soulless monstrosities.

apropos of nothing and certainly not my tag rant from a few posts back

did you know that out of 150 popular video games released between 1985 and 2022, only 6% of them feature sole female protagonists?

did you know that prior to mass effect 3, female shepard was never used in any promotional material for the series?

(and there's no hard data available on this, but i very distinctly recall a lot of gamerbro outrage when me3 had an optional reversible cover so you could pick between male and fem shep on your personal game)

did you know that only 18% of players chose femshep in any shape or form (default or customized) during the original release?

(anecdotally, i know a few people who didn't even realize you could play a female at all in me1 bc of how the cc is setup)

did you know with the release of the legendary edition in 2021 the percentage of femshep players didn't even double (despite jennifer hale's seemingly enormous popularity amongst the broader playerbase over the past decade) and is reported at 32%?

did you know that dragon age inquisition has the same breakdown between male and female inquisitors (68% to 32% respectively)?

did you know during the playtests for assassin's creed odyssey, it was a 50/50 split between kassandra and alexios, and ubisoft suits actually thought when the game was released, kassandra would be more popular? and yet once again, about 70% of players chose the male protag

did you know evie and aya were both supposed to have a much larger roles in assassin's creed syndicate and origins but were forced into a smaller role bc the ubisoft marketing team didn't think the games would sell well with a female lead?

cdpr hasn't released data on male vs female v, probably because the game handles gender a little differently than just two strict options like many other rpgs, but it was revealed that panam was the most popular romance, sitting at about 68%, which means at least 68% of players chose the male v body. I'm sure some players did not make that choice as a cis male v, but i would also guess that those who didn't are a small minority of this demographic, and if you factor in kerry romancers, this split is probably very similar to other games in the genre

now i realize that a lot of the male v players who are in more transformative fandom spaces (like tumblr) are not the str8 gamer dudebros of reddit angry about pores on a female character's face and whatnot. i realize that a lot of you are also on the outskirts of the perceived norm and also feel under-represented by mainstream male protags and that's incredibly frustrating and alienating and i genuinely feel for you

but female protagonists and female gamers who want to play as female protagonists and who have a few niche spaces to celebrate female protags are not the reason for your lack of representation

and frankly you don't sound a whole lot different from the angry incel gamer boys when you say shit like "fem v gets too much attention"

so maybe try advocating for male protags who don't fit the generic boring gruff white guy mold without throwing women under the bus. we're should be allies in this fight, not rivals

Brown Paper Packages Tied up With String (fShenko)

Shepard was riding the elevator down to the cargo hold of the Normandy. She'd just made her way back from the Citadel for a quick supply run, or at least, that's what it was meant to be. A quick supply run was never just a quick supply run anymore.

2. Remember Me (ME:A)

Sara landed with a thud on the metallic floor, unsettling a thick layer of dust. Behind her, Peebee and Liam followed suit. A slight haze formed thanks to the particles being displaced. Sara waved her hand through the air to help it dissipate and get a clear view of her surroundings.

3. The Calm Between the Storms (Hannah Shepard)

Captain Hannah Shepard was looking out at the view from the cockpit of the Orizaba. It was something of a routine of hers when she hit a lull in her duties. She used to look out at the stars with such fondness. They were once filled with so much adventure and potential, but her perception of them had changed over the years.

5. A Cursed Blessing (Kaidan Alenko)

It covers the apples he picks up from the market. It glistens off of the faces of smiling civilians still thriving on the high of survival after the war. He even sees it in the mirror when he wakes. He sees it on his fingers as he rubs his eyes, heavy from nights without sleep. It's inescapable, this new green sheen to everything.

6. Forever, I Choose You (Assasin's Creed Odyssey)

Kassandra stepped up to the ledge of the cliff next to Darius. Makedonia's coast wasn't too far off in the distance. The sea was glistening as the sun was getting ready to set, and there were rolling hills and forests as far as the eye could see. It was a view she'd seen many times now.

7. Downhill (fShenko)

The winter holidays were finally here. Shepard and Kaidan had both been working hard and had earned some good time off.

8. What's Mine is Yours (fShenko)

Shepard walked through the front door of her and Kaidan's apartment. It had been a long day at work. Hackett had needed her to stay late to rush through an urgent project imperative for the next stages of the rebuilding efforts. Kaidan would have been home for hours already.

9. Finding Peace (fShenko)

Shepard awoke to her room which was still in a dark haze. There was a noticeable lack of warmth by her side, prompting her to rub her eyes and look over to Kaidan's side of the bed. He was already awake, standing by the window, pulling the curtains back ever so slightly in a way that she couldn't see what he was looking at.

10. Echoes of Old Embers (fShenko)

“I’m here to see Admiral Hackett,” Shepard said, shoulders poised, looking pristine in her dress blues. She was at Alliance Headquarters in Vancouver, determined to make an impression. Having just finished medical leave, she was hoping for an assignment.

I'm like halfway through Noveria with my new shep rn, after that it's just Virmire left (friggin YIKES), and what it has taught me is that Kassandra, miss goody-two-shoes following the rules Alliance postergirl, is in fact hanging on to her sanity by a thread. She is hinged but BARELY. She actually has so much bright, burning rage and contempt inside her at all times, and the only reason she's still a perfect Paragon is because nothing has made her snap yet (and she's clinging to those hinges for dear life).

She's spent this whole game so far trying to convince Garrus that The Lawful Way is the Right Way, so it's gonna be really funny if she goes off the rails in ME2

storylines i've created with friends that i love and always randomly think about :

faith seed defecting from joseph permanently and trying to join the resistance, with the slight hiccup that set her back slightly when jacob's people killed her girlfriend's little brother and it pit faith and jade against each other slightly. just as jade is about to forgive faith ( and faith DID warn jade numerous times to never go into jacob's region ), the nuclear apocalypse starts and jade and faith have to find bunkers. different bunkers. jade also heard word from other member of the rebellion that faith is dead. so they spent years thinking they're never going to see each other again until they leave the bunkers, start The Garden settlement and try to work with both joseph and the ryes.

the continuous storyline of kassandra falling in love with a few of muses that include roxana, then evie (and becoming a frye family member), and then kristen. where kassandra and kristen practically die in the same week, not knowing that the other did actually die and just dying for their causes.
